Romeo and Romeo

February 2, 2009

Dear Ted:
Is Grey Goose George Clooney? Love you, love your column!
—Mross

Dear Goose Goss:
Toothy wishes. Really, I think he does.

Dear Ted:
Did you watch Prayers for Bobby? I thought it was a wonderful movie with a powerful message, and it's great that Lifetime airs it, as it'll reach the people who need to see it the most. Sigourney Weaver was amazing, and I love Austin Nichols. It's nice to see you talking about him lately, and I hope you talk about him more. He is talented and dreamy.
—Melanie

Dear Fantasy Land:
Wow-friggin'-woo, is Nichols ever taking part in risqué subject matter lately, this is so intriguing. New, daring leaf?

Dear Ted:
Is Baby Tile old enough to talk? Should Toothy Tile be worried about what he might say to people?
—Vicky

Dear Tattle Tooth:
Yes, very. Consider it a Daddy Fearest in the making.

Dear Ted:
Just to start setting a Valentine's Day mood, I'd like to ask you, what is, in your opinion, the greatest love story in today's Hollywood? Is it Toothy Tile and Gray Goose's endless, complex, beautiful and ever-forgiving love story?
—Miranda

Dear Unrequited Love:
Are you kidding? Toothy's tale is more like Hom-e-o and Juliet—there's nothing great about it. Expect an equally bitter and potentially tragic ending, too. At this point, I'd go with Ellen and Portia.

Jonathan Knight’s Gay Lover Sells Out

New Kids on the Block singer Jonathan Knight has been outed by his ex-boyfriend in the latest issue of the National Enquirer.

27-year-old Brazilan model Kyle Wilker tells the mag that Jonathan says, “We had a wonderful relationship. I was in love with him and I believe he was in love with me.”

The ex-couple met at a bar on Fire Island that Kyle was working at and ended their relationship after 18 months.

Kyle adds that Jonathan is a homebody who likes to stay at home, watch TV and read. He says, “I call him a straight guy who happens to be gay.”

MY NAME IS AUSTIN NICHOLS AND I AM LINCOLN BOOTH

A smart, beautiful producer lady handed me a scriptone day. Her name is Hilarie Burton. The script, PEDESTRIAN. People hand me a lot of scripts and most of the time, they are less than extraordinary. This script was light years beyond extraordinary. After I read the opening monologue, I sent the prettyproducer lady a text message. It said something likethis."WHEN DO WE START?!!!" Then I went home to finish reading and found pages 3-117 to be far richer and more illuminating than pages 1 and 2. I have been called many things, but "careful" is not one of them.

My whimsical approach is usually always rewarded, but not what others would recomend or call, "fruitful." But I believe that it is the only way to be.The only way for me. And it proved fruitful that day. Our scribe, a man called Nicholas Gray, posesses a wisdom far beyond his young years. His characters' tongues are sharp as knives, their journey's devastating and inspiring, full of fun and fancy. The pretty producer lady asked me 67 times if I was serious about doing the movie. You can't fault her forthat. This business is full of fickle frauds. She just wasn't used to the chivalrous, strong, honest, straight-forward, my-word-is-stronger-than-oak, Texas gentlemanly promise that I handed her. And I understand,it's quite intimidating. :)

Interestingly enough, Lincoln Booth, the character I play, is founded on the same kind of Southern ideals, but he is all dressed up and covered in New York fancyschmancy, hiding behind the lens of his camera, not focused on his own beating heart. And then...Enter Mona Mills...Stay tuned...Next time more about Lincoln Booth and Mona Mills. They may be the next Jack and Rose, or Romeo and Juliet.

Your Faithful Servant,

Austin Nichols

Is New Kid on the Block, Jonathan Knight, gay?

It looks like another former boy bander is about to come out of the closet and tell the world that he's gay!

Evidently, Jonathan Knight is already open about his sexuality with his friends and family and is about to reveal his news to the world. Knight, the brother of fellow New Kids on the Block member, Jordan, is evidently in a relationship with another man and extremely happy. "Jonathan has a [non-famous] boyfriend and they're very happy," a source reveals. "They're not trying to hide it."

NKOTB is trying to keep their legacy alive lately. I have to wonder what the fans will think of one of the hearthrobs being gay.

SURPRISE SHOW

PATRONS of Tea & Sympathy in the West Village got a sneak preview of the upcoming Broadway revival of "Blithe Spirit" when Rupert Everett launched into an impromptu rehearsal in the middle of dinner. "Rupert was having a meal and was nervous," a spy reports. "He was like, 'I can't learn my lines!' So he asked the owner, Nicky Perry, to sit and read with him. They began doing scenes right there in front of everybody. It was marvelous." The show, also starring Angela Lansbury and Christine Ebersole, starts previews Feb. 26.

WHERE AM I AGAIN?

TOM Cruise could use a geography lesson. In Rio de Janeiro hawking "Val kyrie," Cruise tried to ingratiate himself to reporters by saying hola (hello) and gracias (thanks), not realizing that the language of Brazil is Portuguese, not Spanish. Accord ing to Glamurama.com, Cruise also said he fell in love with Brazil watching movies about samba and tango, unaware that tango is an Argentine dance. Cruise, who's been staying with wife Katie and baby Suri at the Copacabana Palace, took a side trip to the private island of plastic surgeon Dr. Ivo Pitanguy, who has his own landing strip and a menagerie of exotic animals.

The Curious Case of David Fincher

“You kind of wonder if I should [have] been in therapy more regularly,” director David Fincher cracked to an appreciative audience Friday night at the Arlington Theatre after seeing a couple clips from his filmography run. This sort of humorously self-deprecating statement and view of himself and his work as gleefully deranged was typical of Fincher’s remarks during the course of the two-hour event.

“I always look for pervert stories,” he further explained of his penchant for directing violent, darkly humorous films that studios are often wary of green-lighting.

Indeed, after viewing excerpts from cult favorites like “Se7en,” “Zodiac” and “Fight Club” as a part of the evening’s festivities which celebrated Fincher’s status as this year’s Santa Barbara International Film Festival “director in residence,” it’s strange to realize that Fincher is the also the mind behind the Academy Award-nominated “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” a film that lacks many of the elements (i.e. murder, twisted male psychology) that make a Fincher film, well… a Fincher film.
It’s also strange that “Button,” which received at best medium reviews from most critics, would be the film that brings Fincher into contention for the coveted gold statues, seeing as his prior films, especially last year’s phenomenal “Zodiac,” have won him the favor of many well-respected filmic authorities. But that’s another story.

Though the evening’s interview-clip-interview structure was fairly conventional, it was interesting to hear about Fincher discuss his pre-Hollywood career working in the oft-maligned field of commercial and music-video filmmaking. Often, people conceptualize or narrativize the careers of prominent filmmakers as some sort of overnight success story or some grand struggle against the oppressive system to maintain one’s ideals, but Fincher offered a refreshingly different, more realistic (and certainly more cynical) story about his rise to prominence.

After spending a couple years cranking out music video after music video for only $50,000 a year, a young Fincher and his friends started their own production company, Propaganda Films, realizing that the music video business could potentially yield considerably higher returns if approached from a different mindset.

“This is totally an ego business,” Fincher said, discussing how record labels and publicists strive to “brand” their musical acts. Fincher realized that instead of spending $50,000 on a music video, bands could afford to be spending millions, and music video directors were suddenly in much higher demand.

Though his music videos did parlay him his career in film, his first job directing a feature afforded him little creative control: His work on “Alien 3” proved to be a good lesson in studio politics for the director, who did not seem particularly embittered about the fact that he was fired three times, by his own estimates.

Eventually, Fincher’s artistic visions were realized in “Se7en,” and he was subsequently allowed more freedom in the films that he chose to make.

The evening came to an end with a rather bizarre speech from Jake Gyllenhaal, who met Fincher on the set of “Zodiac,” which may or may not have contained several interesting homoerotic double-entendres.

“David Fincher can’t fake it,” Gyllenhaal said of the director, a fitting remark about the director whose most remarkable achievement over his career is his dedication to taking what the audience wants into consideration while still making worthwhile and interesting films that pull no punches.

'Darko' sequel goes direct-to-DVD

The sequel to cult hit Donnie Darko will be released direct-to-DVD, according to io9.

S. Darko, which has been heavily criticised by fans of Richard Kelly's original sci-fi drama, takes place eight years after the events of the first film and follows Donnie's sister Samantha (Daviegh Chase) as she experiences strange visions while on a road trip across America.

Though it was earlier reported that Fox had secured the North American theatrical distribution rights to S. Darko, MGM has announced that it will release it on disc on April 28. Kelly, the writer and director of the 2001 Jake Gyllenhaal film, has distanced himself from the Chris Fisher-helmed sequel.

A trailer for S. Darko will premiere at the upcoming New York Comic Con.

"The evening came to an end with a rather bizarre speech from Jake Gyllenhaal, who met Fincher on the set of “Zodiac,” which may or may not have contained several interesting homoerotic double-entendres."

A bizarre paragraph. Why does one get the idea that there are elephants in the rooms wherever Jake appears these days?

Im glad others perceive Jakey's speech to be bizarre, though. So Im not just being negative for the fun of it.

You dont need to be having sex with one another to be "involved" and I think Jake and Fincher are involved in some kind of kinky emotional relationship, at the least. I would say there are elements of S/M. Wanna bet?

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that Fincher enjoys S/M, but Jake? Hm...

Jake has proclaimed himself a "masochist" at least once, if I recall correctly.

Is anything up with Jake & Fincher?

Jake introduced "Benjamin Button" at the GGs. Was seen talking to him later and gave a speech for Fincher at SBIFF. And didn't take Reese with him? Is Jakey up to old tricks trying to get a project? Sad.

"No confidence, anger, nervousness" : side benefits of hanging around Reese. Yeh great decision to beard, Jake. 3 years ago you could stand up in front of an audience and you were fine. Now look at you. Hiding behind stupid hats, kicking and spitting at paps, can't speak to a small audience, can't speak to a large one either. Snicker or uncomfortable either way. Reese is a confidence killer. Ask Ryan. Or maybe you deserve it, Jake. Maybe you deserved to have Reese cut off your balls. You let yourself be used.

Jake's a quick study. I suspect he's learned what he needs to know from Fincher. I find it hard to forgive Fincher for his mistake in miscasting Jake in Zodiac role. Fincher's apparently got alot of power behind him, but I dont feel this relationship is in Jake's interest.

Just my view.

I loved Jake in Zodiac. As for projects, he just did 3 films in a row, and PoP was a lot more work than the average film. He probably wants to take a break. Most casting announcements are not made until shortly before a film starts shooting. Which is not to say he couldn't have problems, just that it is too early to know.

There aren't many details yet, but from the pic above (where's he's in character on the streets of NYC), he looks right at home in daddy mode.

We ballyhooed his guest shot on Lipstick Jungle last year, only to have it blow up in our faces, but we're not letting him get away this time. As soon as we have more info about the character and episode, we'll pass it on, and here's one more pic of Cheyenne as hot daddy of the season ...

Two tidbits from Cantara's Notebook:

Friday, December 12, 2008

As for the Big Swede? Last year around this time I took him to Java Beach in my neighborhood, where we sat on the sofa in the back and over coffee (decaf tea for him) we discussed everything, from politics and literature to his Hollywood hopes and dreams.

One interesting remark of his: I’d suggested to him that he call in his favors with stars who’ve made it big since he gave them their first big breaks, actors like Billy Bob Thornton, the enchanting (well, I’m enchanted) Lena Headey, and Ryan Philippe.

“I can never use Ryan ever, ever again,” intoned Stephen dramatically. He reads way too many of his lines dramatically. Why not? I asked. “Well, because of Reese!” he exclaimed. I was embarrassed to admit that I’d completely forgotten about her (at the time) new tabloid romance with Jake.

I don't. Jake was unsuitable for the role. He was too young and did not come off as a guy obsessed with the case. His "obsessed" and "focused" was expressed by looking like a beat up puppy dog. He was ok but nothing special. However, I would like to see him in another Fincher film.

Maybe the faker comment was just a joke about actors in general but that is also the kind of self beating people with bad self esteem give themselves.

What do I think when I see pics of Jake and Reese? I guess I've become desensitized to them. They seem to have done things in reverse; talk of marriage and children first, then tossed by the wayside in favor of dinner dates and basketball games, which I would have thought we'd see first. Some of the pics are cute, like the basketball game ones, the most recent that dress is atrocious - dismal color and style. Normally I don't like to say anything negative, because none of us are perfect.

Consider the source about the Cantara remarks - of course she'd elevate JakeWatch to the highest form of blogdom in the universe. She's probably jealous of all of the creativity of the others.

She likes DC and JakeWatch.
I'm surprised that she trashes IHJ, WDW and GB, and didn't expect her to mention OMG.

I thought JakeWatch could get a little repetitive and boring at times - the same jokes over and over, not enough balance between serious and funny subject matter, and a bit juvenile.

Anonymous said...

That was a good job. Reeke arriving at the game and Jake leaving Reese behind, by the car - not so good (lol).

Anonymous said...

IHJ is a Jake Shrine, which we are eternally grateful for, don't get me wrong - but it's a different thing altogether. OMG and WDW are extremely creative, and the dedication that the blog owners put into them is incredible. OMG is especially creative musically. Cantara is full of crap, as usual. There was a time when she relegated DC to the "flabby and sinister" scrapheap.

Of course Cantara is singing the praises of DC now that they've gotten rid of everyone and it's just Chuck, a babbler and someone from Jake Watch.

Anonymous said...

She's crazier than the babblers, because she's smarter, and not so fat; she is also much more evil. her photo of Stephen on his way to the toilet looks a bit like Jake.

One No-Shame Same-Sex Blind Vice

This baby's sure to break a lotta hearts out there. Now, it's certainly not news that Nevis Divine is undeniably sexy. He's got a steady following from fans and paparazzi to a bevy of nearly naked gals, all vying for a piece of luscious Nev's sorta hairy frame.

But as so often is the case with the hugely slobbered set, Nevis doesn't always look to the chicks to ignite his fire. In fact, we very nearly could have a potential Toothy Tile on our hands, 'cause just like old beloved Tooth, boy Divine was once as carefree with his attraction to guys as he now is with the fairer sex:

Nevis has been famous for a while now, but his white-hot infamy's only recently been building. And we just learned that only a couple of years ago, N.D. showed up to a very prominent Industry function, and as his date, brought along another man. Love this dude's nerve! As N.D. introduced his non-famous plus one, Nevis-babe was sure to label his companion a boyfriend, while the two were nonchalantly "couply" all evening, say those who hang with Mr. D now as they did then.

And no, we're most decidedly not saying this was a boy-date who was simply a friend, but a friend with nooky benefits, for sure. Pals close to our semicloseted heartthrob claim that N.D. would "fool around" with guys sometimes, but that he considered it "no big deal."

Which is ironic because, really, it isn't. At least, not until one of those fooler-arounders heads to the nearest checkbook-dispensing tabloid office.

And it ain't: Robert Buckley, Corbin Bleu, Penn Badgley

The babblers picked fights with the other posters on DC if they talked about Jake being gay, Austin, etc. And the moderators, one of whom is a babbler, and Dave Cullen sided with the babblers. Nothing like a couple of gay men throwing in with the babblers. I guess that worked out really well for them. Guess they thought all the gays and gay-friendly posters would put up with being relegated to the back of the bus since it was coming from a gay man.

I stoped visiting Dave C site becuse i find it too "official" for my taste. It was said (or at least i think so) that the script writers and some of the actors frequented the site at some time.

Anonymous said...

If that's true I guess DC and his moderators are more looney tunes who think that if they tow the pr line that Jake is going to show his appreciation by personally thanking them and making them president of his fan club. And they say we're crazy.

Anonymous said...

From what I recall, too many of the Jake is straight crowd and the Jake is gay crowd engaged in so much nasty, vicious baiting and backbiting that it was threatening to turn the DC forum into a total cesspool. All of the nastiness was not just coming from the babblers. As anyone can see from the name calling nastiness that some spew on this blog, the psychotics come from all sides.

I guess Dave felt he had to ban the references and insinuations regarding Jake's sexuality completely. There had been attempts to moderate what was fair game and what wasn't. But unfortunately, that just wasn't acceptable to all of the fanatics. Some people only believe in tolerance and understanding for their point of view.

I don't see how anyone who's anonymous is going to call anyone out.

Anonymous said...

DC forum is clearly a FAN site. They don't really want to "discuss" any subject, all they want is to worship the movie BBM and the actors in it.
I like sites like OMG & WFT better because i think they are funnier, i don't like DC style so i just don't visit that site and don't post in it either. Why would i? I don't care for a neverending fight with the babblers. I know how DC posters feel about Jake and i wouldn't go there just to bother them.
Same is with the Reeke's fans...why they come here if they KNOW people here have a very critical point of view about it? It seems if the anti Reekes don't go to babblers then babblers go to antiReekes...

Dave started a thread all about his his broken foot in the celebrity fan section. His posts were a mile long, pages and pages of him writing about it with xray pics, details about every exam, the whole saga how he broke it etc. IN THE FAN SECTION WITH THE JAKE AND HEATH THREADS. It was the laughingstock of DC. After I saw it I stopped going to DC and I wasn't the only one. It said a lot about how high and mighty he thinks of himself. I don't give a rats ass about him.

Anonymous said...

I agree with your point of view 3:10. I think that's the healthy, mature way to go. 3:13's attitude is probably part of what caused the ban at DC.

I'm not so sure that Reeke fans are coming here. It just that there alot of people who think that Jake may be bi, and if so, that is why he could be with Reese. That doesn't necessarily make one a fan of Reese. There are also people like me who think Jake is gay, but don't believe in the Jake and Austin fantasy.

I don't think Jake has found "the one" yet. According to Ted, it looks as if he's looking for a George Clooney type.

Anonymous said...

Is it true people got banned from DC forum? Any personal experience?

I think i would cut my wrists if someone bans me from WFT.

Anonymous said...

DC wasn't all about BBM and Jake 3:10. Plenty of babblers posting Reeke photos and carrying on about them and pushing the Jake is straight agenda, just not as blatantly as at GB. When other posters pushed back against that it was "oh that's not what this site is about" shit. I swear, sometimes I think some people watched a different version of BBM for all that they don't seem to get some of the issues it raised, like living in the closet.

Anonymous said...

When he was called upon to make a decision while working on one of his journalistic projects, which was always, he totally freaked out, going all hysterical and calling people names.

He never read the BBMt threads, I dont think he even saw the friggin' film: cause it would have upsete him. He didt seem that interested in Jake, so I dont think decisions made had anythng to do with Jake's career.

Never understood why everybody sucked up to him.

Anonymous said...

I think the reference to Clooney is Ted's way of saying Jake wishes he was with someone who'd be a good little docile boy and play the HW game by getting a beard. Too bad for Toothy that the Goose doesn't seem to want to do that.

Anonymous said...

if someone goes too far on WFT2 the comment is deleted and the poster understands what is okay and what is not - hopefully.

mods on DC would send personal messages to posters, be abusive, and threaten to ban. a respected poster and moderator was banned because mods didnt know how to mod.

it is also a known fact that personal messages on DC were not personal.

nasty business all around.

"3:13's attitude is probably part of what caused the ban at DC."

FYI I never talked about Jakes sexuality when I was there. I was always soooo nice and followed the rules. Others did too but still got banned because Dave didn't like them or because they spoke their mind or disagreed with him. He's an pompous asshole. Thing about DC is when you post, at least 3 mods look at it to make sure its "acceptable". Too many fucking rules there. Its all about the mods.

It was the babblers who ruined it. They went on and on about Reese and Jake and they turned Eyelashes into a battle ground. UV and Bubba aka Lola are assholes. They didn't let anyone have fantasies about Jake it all had to be Reese and Jake, Reese and Jake, Reese and Jake. Bubba-Lola is a woman who has mental problems and UV is a morbidly obese stay at home. Both are pushy control freaks who always "have to be right" and are trouble makers but the mods wouldn't ban their homophobic asses so all the good people left and all whos there is the 4 babblers. Says alot about the mods too, they valued those freaky assholes over the creative members who made the thread fun and a pleasure for everyone else.

Grey Goose is playing the Hollywood game by giving his consent to his boyfriend Jake's bearding. I am tired of people trying to make excuses for him. He could be out and proud and choses not to be. His not bearding is not a point in his favor; he's not important enough for the gay rumors to impact him.

Why hasn't he declared himself? There is nothing to stop him. He is an enabler and complicit in Jake's behavior.

He is a coward.

I dont' think Ted is just referencing Clooney's bearding. I think Ted is talking about Jake's preference for the man himself. Why wouldn't Jake want Clooney? Who wouldn't? He's got it all over Austin on every level. And when Jake finds his "George," he'll dump Austin in a New York minute. Trust.

Anonymous said...

I left DCF two years ago and still feel a bit sad about losing that piece of virtual BBMt heaven.

Anonymous said...

"And when Jake finds his "George," he'll dump Austin in a New York minute. "

Jakes star is rapidly declining. And whoever wants Jake, if theres anyone who still wants him, would be getting Reese as part of the deal. Straight men aren't fighting over her much less gay queens. Who wants that prissy cunt controlling their life. No one but pathetic Jake. Pretty sure Austin isn't crazy about Reese either.

The Jake threads at Dave Cullen forum are hysterical. There is one thread that is four people posting the same pictures of Jake in a constant loop for months. Why not just print yourself an album and flip through it alone? Obviously these four people have all seen these pictures multiple times. There are not comments about the pictures really. Except for one psycho who responds to every post with some inane comment. It is the craziest thing I have ever seen.

UV, bubba, Lawgoddest, cellerdweller. Same old same old. Eyelashes 15 started on Oct 19 2008 and almost 4 months later only on page 268. Back in the day 20 pages would be burned thru a day. Now its a ultra-polite ("thank you for the pictures" "you're welcome") humorless plodding slow death ode to Jake thanks to Dave Cullen the mods and the pathetic babblers.

Anonymous said...

DCs post counts are down more than half of what they used to be.

Anonymous said...

Whether Austin loves Reese or not is not the point. If you believe he and Jake are still together, then Austin is being controlled by her as well since he stays put and puts up with it.

I think that if Jake is still looking for his "George," he will dump both Reese and Austin when he finds him. I don't think he'll come out. He'll just go back to being the carefree bachelor, but he'll finally have a man who really inspires. and fires, him on all levels. Kind of like his own "Angelina."

Anonymous said...

Sounds heavenly :)

Anonymous said...

Don't think George is really Jake's type but I do sometimes wonder if Austin is not truly the one. When the right person comes along, they are more important than anything or anyone. So maybe Jake has not yet found someone worth abdicating the crown. Plus their relationship has had a few rough patches. What if he comes out and Austin later breaks up with him. Then it would be all for nothing. Of course he would be free to be himself, that's worth something right there.

Anonymous said...

"When the right person comes along, they are more important than anything or anyone."

First of all you have to BE the right person before you can find another right person. Jake's bearding (along with his latest anger issues) shows to me he is not mature enough to stand up for himself and be part of a mature relationship.

From Ian Halperin's site:

IUC Exclusive: IUC Investigation Reveals Jake Definitely a Flaming Poofter - Relationship with Reese is Toast

In case you hadn’t noticed, I removed the photo of Jake Gyllenhall
today from my list, featuring a photo of one celeb who is not gay.

Does this mean that I’m outing Jake? Is the Pope German?

The worst kept secret in Hollywood is that for almost four years,
Gyllenhall has been anxious to break out of the celluloid closet. My
old friend Ted Casablanca has posted repeated notorious blind items
about this since 2005, discussing a mysterious celeb who he dubbed
“Toothy Tile,” documenting Gyllenhall’s baby steps out of the closet,
only to be shoved firmly back in at the insistence of his publicists
and management who advised Jake that it would be career suicide for
him to take the leap.

This has resulted in the increasingly sad spectacle of Jake hitting
the town with a series of beards in the fine old tradition of
Hollywood. Think James Dean and Nathalie Wood. Or, more accurately
Cary Grant and Randolph Scott, who used to publicly hold hands and
gaze longingly into each other’s eyes at the Brown Derby restaurant
in Hollywood, as Toothy Tile was said to have done surreptitiously at
a restaurant with his boyfriend in one of Ted’s earliest blind items.
Unfortunately, Ted’s lawyers at E have put a straitjacket on him,
preventing him from releasing the name of the subject of the world’s
most famous blind item (though Ted refused to confirm this to me when
I had him on IUC for a live chat a couple of weeks ago.)

For a complete archive of Casablanca’s four-year documentation of the
increasingly sad Toothy Tile’s revolving closet doors, check out
www.toothytile.com.
