Romeo and Romeo

February 2, 2009

Dear Ted:
Is Grey Goose George Clooney? Love you, love your column!
—Mross

Dear Goose Goss:
Toothy wishes. Really, I think he does.

Dear Ted:
Did you watch Prayers for Bobby? I thought it was a wonderful movie with a powerful message, and it's great that Lifetime airs it, as it'll reach the people who need to see it the most. Sigourney Weaver was amazing, and I love Austin Nichols. It's nice to see you talking about him lately, and I hope you talk about him more. He is talented and dreamy.
—Melanie

Dear Fantasy Land:
Wow-friggin'-woo, is Nichols ever taking part in risqué subject matter lately, this is so intriguing. New, daring leaf?

Dear Ted:
Is Baby Tile old enough to talk? Should Toothy Tile be worried about what he might say to people?
—Vicky

Dear Tattle Tooth:
Yes, very. Consider it a Daddy Fearest in the making.

Dear Ted:
Just to start setting a Valentine's Day mood, I'd like to ask you, what is, in your opinion, the greatest love story in today's Hollywood? Is it Toothy Tile and Gray Goose's endless, complex, beautiful and ever-forgiving love story?
—Miranda

Dear Unrequited Love:
Are you kidding? Toothy's tale is more like Hom-e-o and Juliet—there's nothing great about it. Expect an equally bitter and potentially tragic ending, too. At this point, I'd go with Ellen and Portia.

Ian source/investigation seems to be Ted, he even sources www.toothytile.com, just like JJ. Does he have anything indepenedent from Ted? Nothing he has posted is original, even the time frame: 4 years , it's the time frame of the TT BI. He is also wrong regarding the lawyers at E! They aren't tying his hands, it's a BI, he can say what he wants w/o naming names, Ted doesn't out anyone, Ian needs to do his homework.

About Ian Halperin:

NY Times bestselling author/filmmaker Ian Halperin specializes in undercover investigations. He is the author of seven bestselling books and has directed three films, including the highly acclaimed documentary The Cobain Case. Halperin has appeared on hundreds of TV/radio shows including Dateline, Anderson Cooper, Howard Stern, Geraldo Rivera and The CBS Early Morning Show.

His film "His Highness Hollywood", is a rollicking, irreverent and controversial look behind the scenes of Hollywood.

Posing undercover as a gay actor who is a member of the so called "Israeli Royal Family", filmmaker Ian Halperin infiltrates the world of head-shots, auditions, fame and ruin.

He infiltrates the Church of Scientology who promise him a cure for his alleged homosexuality. And in the process of exposing the secrets of the world's most coveted trade, he meets up with numerous A-listers, including Brad Pitt, Jay Leno, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bill Paxton, Ron Jeremy and Sigourney Weaver, who are most eager to give him the inside track on what life is really like in Tinseltown.

If DC deletes a post about current internet news on Jake if its gay then they should delete any internet site posts about Reeke or if Jake is straight. Watch, the babblers will start posting a shitload of the Reese and Jake kissing pics. LOL

Blecch - they just give me the creeps any more!

I thnk Jake should due Virginia Yapps, but I guess she covered herself by saying he may or MAY NOT have made homoerotic double entendres. Virginia will probably be strapped by student loans for years so I guess there's no point suing her.

From DC Lawgoddest on Lahses after Merkets IUC news post: "Speculation about Jake's sexuality is not allowed anywhere in the Dave Cullen forum. It's against the rules.

Please refrain from discussing this until Chuck gets back online."

But its okay to speculate Jakes gonna marry Reese and make babies with her. LOL

And thats why I don't post at DC anymore. They're homophobic assholes.

How come DCF mods didn't come up with the obvious compromise: no Reeke and no Jake is gay speculations?
That would be fair, wouldn't it?

Won't happen. I said it before, I think he likes men and women, I also think he was together with Austin. And even though I think he and Reese are a real couple, although famewhores too, I don't think it'll last. I think he'll hook up with another one in the near future, probably a woman and maybe start a family with her. It's just a feeling I have.

Anonymous said...

WDW tried this. Apparently it didnt work.

No one forced Kate to post (start posting) about Reeke - I presume she never wrote about gay speculations.

Kate's blog, Kate's posts, Kate's decisions.

Anonymous said...

Bullshit. Jake has more chemistry with Ellen.

Anonymous said...

And David Fincher. They look really relaxed together.

Anonymous said...

I wonder what will happen next. To me, this guy has some credibility - why would he suddenly decide to do this? Jake is beautiful, just as he is. He doesn't need any bearding arrangement.

Anonymous said...

Reese needed to look not like a loser and alone after Ryan left her. Sometimes I wonder if the bearding was more for her to look like she's wanted and sexy not so much Jake is staright.

Anonymous said...

Ian decided to do this after he had Ted on his chat show a few weeks ago. He is hiding behind Ted's BI, there is nothing there we haven't heard about in the last 4 years. Also his Will smith story went nowehre.

Anonymous said...

8:26 PM

We keep saying Jake is bearding because that covers Jake is gay + Reeke is fake, but bearding wasn't the main reason for the fauxmance.

Reese needed a faithful (long term) and celebrity boyfriend right after her divorce was announced. Reeking started because Reese wanted hot, publicity generating boyfriend, not because Reese agreed to beard for Jake.

Anonymous said...

Bearding was the only reason, Reese could have found another celebrity BF w/o the baagage/gay rumors, she has heard about them for years.

He wanted a A-list popular actress, not the frumpy Greta Caruso his family tried to set him up with. Jake was sniffing around her waiting for Ryan to exit, and viola! And she has kids too! She is friuends wih his Mom, doing her a favor plus she likes grateful, puppydog jake hanging around. When she dumps him and she will do the dumping, Jake will be more of a mess then he already is. Reese better wait until Pop comes out before she kicks him to the curb.

Reese could have find a real boyfriend, but it would took months, he had to be "someone" and he could dump her three months later. Jake was a perfect candidate for a fake boyfriend, including Rendition promotion.

Reese Controling Bitch Witherspoon isn't doing any favors to Jake, reeking is mutually beneficial agreement.

My old friend Ted Casablanca has posted repeated notorious blind items about this since 2005, discussing a mysterious celeb who he dubbed “Toothy Tile,” documenting Gyllenhall’s baby steps out of the closet, only to be shoved firmly back in at the insistence of his publicists and management who advised Jake that it would be career suicide for him to take the leap.

I think Jake is gay and coming out would hurt his career.

Ian updated his site:

IUC Exclusive: Justin Time For the Grammeys…Why Does ianundercover Out Celebs?

I’ll reveal more very soon. Hundreds of teenagers kill themselves every year because they are gay and tens of thousands more are suicidally depressed because they are afraid to come out, which disgusts me. If people knew that people like Jake Gyllenhaal, their role models (actors, athletes, politicians) were gay, it would do a lot to get rid of the homophobia that plagues the world. Ever since I went undercover in Scientology and discovered the lengths people go to hide or change their sexuality, I have been on a mission. Simply put, there’s no excuse under the sun in the year 2009 that can justify why powerful, rich celebs remain in the closet.

peace out, ian

Ian is sounding more and more like J. Jaxson. Didn't he also have a list, no new names and he used Jake and the TT BI's as a launching pad only he didn't say Jake was TT like Ian but used the BI's. He has "outed" Timberlake but doesn' offer anything other than a picture of him posing with Lance Bass, too lazy to bother and google or "investigate" unless he is afraid of Timberlake's people, Justin is more popular and well know than Jake.

Anonymous said...

Two things -

1) DC forum was always a cesspool. Just ask anyone who was there 3 years ago on the slash forum.

2) Ian is an established name, published author, insider. JJ was not.

Shitting in your pants now, Evelyn?

Anonymous said...

Ian is an established name, published author, insider. JJ was not.

I agree, but Jake should worry only if Ian plans to investigate and out him (see Kids on the Block singer Jonathan Knight outing).

Anonymous said...

As they say, talk is cheap. Unless Ian can show some kind of proof, he won't be taken seriously. When J. Jaxson had his Jake coming out story, he only had hearsay, no actual proof, and Jake's lawyers made him shut up fast. If Ian has investigated as he says, then he should know he needs some proof to back up his claims.

Anonymous said...

You are right, I missed "Investigation Reveals" from the post title. I think this investigation consisted of talking to some people who confirmed TT story.

Anonymous said...

Jake's lawyers never made Jaxson shut up, the post from Aug. 07 is still up and he did another story about Jake and BT 3 months later. If Jake's lawyer got to Jaxson then the original post would have been deleted (it was revised) and he would have never have done the 2nd post.

Ian's post is also based on hearsay (Ted's BI's)just like JJ's, published author true, but same tact as jaxson for some odd reason.

J.Knight was not outed due to investigated reporting, but from a former BF that went to the rags and sold the story and pics for $4,000.

Everyone i HW knows that TT is Jake, and i would assume that also includes Ian, he didn't just figure it out. The timing of it coinsides with Ted being o his chat show where zted most likely gave him his blessing.

PS: The Timberlake "outing" is lame. A picture of him with Lance Bass??

Anonymous said...

Well I am still waiting for the "investigations"

Anonymous said...

Hey, PR shill at 8:57!

One would think that after almost 3 years of scrambling around the interweb, posting furiously, trying to cover Toothy and Teh Gay stories over with PR manure, that you would've learned to either spell correctly, honed those oh, so important speed typing skills, or at least come to understand the importance of proof reading. All three go a long way to helping your posts seem less idiotic.

Not that what's contained within comes across as convincing, on the contrary, they have become increasingly desparate and comical. Proper spelling and grammar just makes it much easier on the eyes, that's all.

Anonymous said...

So are we all, 9:12, so are we all.

And, sucker that I am, I'm willing to wait and give the guy time to 'conduct' said investigations, and not jump immediately on the "he's a jerk asswipe no better than..." or "nothing new here, just Ted's old TT crap."

Of course, no matter what his digging brings up, I'll always beleive that Jake is Gay.

Anonymous said...

But why is there so much "hearsay" about this one particular issue? Halperin has a fair amount of credibility as an author, and his motive makes sense. Jake has everything it takes to be a leading man, gay or straight, and for me, I have no problem imagining him as one, gay or not. I wish his people would let him be the beautiful man he is. The bearding is actually bringing more attention, I think. If he wanted to keep his personal life private, like Anderson Cooper, but not beard, what's wrong with that? It's the bearding that I feel hurts him, and sends a hurtful message as well.

Anonymous said...

Did he out Dicaprio too?

Anonymous said...

Didn't Ian write a book about Hollywood and Scientology? I think he did. The fact that he did and lived to survive it-with his reputation, name and life intact, speaks volumes.

Anonymous said...

When one claims to "investigated" a story, you would think it would be an actual investigation not the person pointing to Ted and his TT BI and linking to toothytile.com.

He should steer clear away from Ted and TT and do his own independent investigation, find out new information and not do his pal Ted a favor by helping him to bump his TT tale to the mainstream, again.

You would think that Ted would write a book on TT, I assume he has proof to back it up.

One can have "credibility" and still post hearsay like Ian, which he did. He played it safe by repeating gossip that has been out there for years.

His motives make sense like it made sense to JJ: JJ said that no actor should be in the closet and that they should be role models, ian is saying pretty much the same.

Anonymous said...

Ian won't touch Leo with a ten foot pole, Clooney either.
Tomis fair game, so much has been written and said about Tom and Scientology that it doesn't matter. If he did a story about Tom and the men he slept with that would be a different story although he did report about Will smith and the male escorts but that wasn't an investigation, just him reporting on a madams book.

Anonymous said...

Bearding is homophobic, but I would hate to see Jake outed.

Anonymous said...

Why is an "investigation" needed? The poor man isn't on trial! And maybe JJ doesn't have as much of a reputation as a gossip columnist/author, or credibility, but it still doesn't mean he lied.

Anonymous said...

Investigative journalism is a type of reporting in which reporters deeply investigate a topic of interest, often involving crime, political corruption, or some other scandal.

De Burgh (2000) states that: "An investigative journalist is a man or woman whose profession it is to discover the truth and to identify lapses from it in whatever media may be available. The act of doing this generally is called investigative journalism and is distinct from apparently similar work done by police, lawyers, auditors and regulatory bodies in that it is not limited as to target, not legally founded and closely connected to publicity".

Anonymous said...

Jake's personal well-being comes first, before he can be any kind of a role model. I also am saddened by the bearding, but would hate to see him outed, until he's ready himself to come out. Keep in mind before sainthood, TR, NPH, and DHP were either outed or threatened with outing before they came out on their own. Jonathan Knight's BF, betraying a friend/lover for money, is the worst motive - the lowest of the low.

Anonymous said...

. . . not legally founded and closely connected to publicity.

So how again is an "investigation" going to make a difference?

Anonymous said...

The saddest part about all this reeking business is that I know plenty of people who don't read Internet gossip and honestly believe that Jake and Reese are a real couple. Whenever I tell them that they are a PR manufactured couple, they laugh. I'm like, "Look at these pictures. They look staged." Know what I hear back? I hear, "They're a cute couple. Leave them alone. No way is Jake gay." One chick actually said, "How can Jake be gay and be with Reese Witherspoon? She's so gorgeous." LMFAO! I know.

Point is, for some people, I guess their relationship is doing what it is supposed to do.

Anonymous said...

No matter the fine points of investigative journalism, it still amounts to putting someone "on trial" in the media. If someone is harming the public, then by all means, but someone's personal life shouldn't qualify.

Anonymous said...

"So how again is an "investigation" going to make a difference?"

As you said suladarling, a lot of people don't have a clue about the rumors, but those are people who probably don't care about Jake in the first place and wouldn't turn out to see a movie just because he's in it. And honestly, do those people care if Jake is gay or not? Most of them probably don't. And the fact that those people hadn't a clue means that there was no need for Jake to beard if that is the target audience for the bearding.

No, I think the bearding was directed at his gay fans, the internet, places like here and OMG, loading up IHJ with Reekedom, assuring the straight fan girls they think are going to make him an A-List star if they just straighten him up.

I find all of this deeply homophobic, and I do think Jake deserves to be outed. And all those other cited as examples above, like NPH, didn't beard. I don't know that it is right to push people like that out of the closet since they are not actively engaging in homophobic behavior. I also think the fact those people were not doing that made it easier for them to come out when it was revealed. Not going to happen with someone like Jake, sadly, if he's outed. Probably send him down the aisle with Reese.

Anonymous said...

There are too many actors with too many powerful connections in Hollywood for Halperin's "outings' to work. Until now, the people who have come out, or been outed, are minor leaguers. No major A-list male movie star has been forced to come out. Unless Halperin can produce first hand witnesses to sexual encounters or ex-lovers, nothing he says will carry any weight.

He'll create a brief fuss on the internet, but unless it hits the nightly news, or the network entertainment shows, and forces someone to come out, it will become much ado about nothing, again.

Anonymous said...

The ONLY reason I feel so strongly anti-beard is not because I think any actor should come out and wear his colours on his sleeve and yell to the world, or flaunt his bf about as out and proud to suit the fans, or make a statement for gay rights, it's purely this, and it's the same reason Ian Halperin has just put into one paragraph:

I’ll reveal more very soon. Hundreds of teenagers kill themselves every year because they are gay and tens of thousands more are suicidally depressed because they are afraid to come out, which disgusts me. If people knew that people like Jake Gyllenhaal, their role models (actors, athletes, politicians) were gay, it would do a lot to get rid of the homophobia that plagues the world. Maybe.

Or that a Disney contract was in the offing a long time ago or guaranteed and fo' sho', Disney don't do anything that isn't Family Friendly Association of America and Apple Pie, Inc.

You'd need a beard well in advance imo if working up to such a role. You'd have to! In Disney World, even the cartoon cells are straighter than straight!

Anonymous said...

When that major male hollywood star comes out and finds his career either destroyed or relegated to minor tv roles, it will send the right message alright.

I find it curious that some are so ready to sacrifice somebody's else's life. You don't want others to tell you how to live, but you think you have some god given right to dictate to others? What happened to tolerance?

I am sorry but I don't believe it is the job of anyone to be someone's role model. The gay teens who are killing or harming themselves are doing so because of the immediate envrironment they find themselves in. No hollywood actor is going to change that.

Have shows like Will and Grace made life easier for these teens? Apparently not.

And I don't believe Halperin cares about gay teens for one minute.

Anonymous said...

the fact is Ian didn't out Jake !
Or at least he "outed" him like JJ lol

Anonymous said...

Money is everything. Read in NYTimes how Spielberg looks to
associate his company with Disney.
Disney also has Harvey's Miramax, which doesn't make money anymore and Disney wants to drop it (sell it).

Jake is a prisoner of high money interests. I don't think anybody will have the incentive to out him at this moment.

"The motion picture division of Disney, meantime, has been under pressure from Robert A. Iger, the company’s chief executive, to improve the quality of its live-action movies and introduce bigger “event” hits.

The studio’s Touchstone label has been a disaster of late with the films “Miracle at St. Anna” and “Swing Vote” ignored in the marketplace."

Oh please.

Will and Grace don't challenge the stereotypes this country has of gay men. Will and Grcae ENCOURAGE those same ancinet foppish stereotypes.

The whole point of Brokeback was that it portrayed non-effeminate macho type guys as gay, which made a lot of people sit up. If the Academey had done what it should have done a lot of things might have changed that night as well and other doors may have opened in a wider context.

You are insane if you think public figures have no role to playin society. They want a role in society when it comes to society buying tickets and watching the films/following their careers!

I totally agree. There's an entire spectrum of gay men, and lesbian women.

I am sorry but I don't believe it is the job of anyone to be someone's role model.

By this very statement actors should avoid acting then, because that is ultimately what they inevitably and always become to someone as a public figure. Every showbiz personality that walked the Earth is someone's "role model".

It's just that people cherry-pick which part of "role model" they want to be. Such as "giving off image A, being and saying something and saying as such in national/international magazines for all to read when I'm going home and being something contrary to image A".

Anonymous said...

I think Austin will tire of Jake before the opposite happens.

Anonymous said...

^^ THANK YOU. I totally agree.
I though W&G was funny at times, but it was too sterotypical of what america thinks of as gay men. Whinny, flamboyant, bitchy, into all things girls, and just plain sissy's. Not the masculine male, athlete, the male who loves football and other sports, but someone who's waiting for the next episode of America's next top model to come on. Most gay men I know did not watch W&G because they are not like that.

Anonymous said...

Totally agree 1:22. And I think Disney was part of the reason for the bearding too; or at least the level of bearding that has gone on.

We really don't know what affect coming out would have on a top star. Let's be honest, most of the people who have come out, like TR Knight, while decent actors, are in a way expendable, because there are 100s of others out there just like them.

People always point to Rupert Everett too, he's practically the poster boy for not coming out. But he's also not very talented and an asshole to boot, from everything I've read. Plus most people don't have a clue as to who he is.

Can't say that for people like Jake, George, Leo, etc. I"m not so sure they couldn't keep doing the same work, and/or that social pressure wouldn't force studios to keep employing them. At a minimum they would probably get good work in indie films. Maybe they wouldn't make as much money, but they'd still be making far more money than most people in this country. The only one's who'd be crying over that are the 10 percenters.

The only role models I have are my parents. No one becomes your role model unless you make the choice to look to them as such. If someone who is a public figure makes a choice to conduct himself in such a way as to inspire others, that's fine. But still, he cannot make someone else chose to be inspired by him.

Actors act for a variety of reasons, the same as in any profession. There are no more hypocrites in Hollywood than on this board.

Actors are no more required to be role models than journalists, athletes or politicians.

Maybe we should all start a boycott against Disney for refusing to use openly gay actors and forcing people to beard.

Anonymous said...

While there's nothing wrong with W&G, I always take issue with the not challenging of stereotypes, and having gay characters being laughed at. Laughed with is better, and even with that, it's time to move forward and hts.guys. Effeminate is just one aspect of gay malehood, and they've probably shown the most balls of all by being involved in making real change for gay rights over the years, standing up and literally fighting, than the so-called macho men.

Anonymous said...

Ooops, let's try that again, sorry for the typos:

I agree, we need a diversity of images. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a fem gay buy, the problem is only when other kinds of gay men are not being represented. I think it's important we make that distinction so it doesnt' come across that there is something wrong with being fem.

Anonymous said...

^^Exactly. There is nothing wrong with being fem, it's very beautiful too.

Anonymous said...

Reality check. The reason people beard is because they want the top of the line career. They do not want to be relegated to independant and "art" films. If they do those kind of movies, it should be because they want to, not because they are forced to because it is all they can get. The "public" is not going to put pressure on the studios to keep them on top. If anything, probably just the opposite. This is a big country and a big world and the view of this board is a tiny percentage of it.

I think it is self-righteous and arrogant to decide what's okay for someone else's career and life. These actors have to live this, not us.

As for Jake and Austin. Who knows. My guess, since Austin has demonstrated his willingness to be a doormat, he will stay until Jake finally tires of his services.

^ I'm poster 1:36 and I agree with your point. I've always said that there's room for us all to the lipstick lesbian, the butch ones, the fem guy and the masculine guy. There are also people who are bisexual which are having the hardest time because of what I feel now is more politcal either way you look at it. Straights don't think anyone could be interested in both sexes and Gays think the same way. A new bigotry by (gays) in my opinion. I did not use the word sissy to insult.

"Will and Grace don't challenge the stereotypes this country has of gay men. Will and Grcae ENCOURAGE those same ancient foppish stereotypes."

The interesting thing is that Eric McCormick was straight and Sean Hayes was openly gay during W&G run on TV. Most of the cast has moved on to other things. I did read somewhere that Mr. Hayes has taking away his Gay identity and won't talk about it or discuss it. If I'm not mistaken, he says he is not gay now. I do know that the part he had in the J. Nicholson, M. Freeman movie was his biggest role since leaving W&G.

It would be interesting to here Seans take on things in the movie business, or rather he and Jake discusing it. I'm saying, two wrongs don't make a right. If Jake is bearding because of his career, then Sean Hayes and of course G. Clooney (because, IMO he also beards) should be called out also. Clooney for bearding and Hayes for taking back his original statement of being Gay!

I"m the one who suggested the Disney boycott. I'm not saying it's because of Jake and PoP, but just the general lack of openly gay actors in any of their movies. And yes, I know it won't work because we'd never get enough people to make a difference.

Did Jake actually imply that he's a faker at the Fincher celebration? Geesh, the man is a walking freudian slip. Now you see why Disney doesn't not want him talking about anything besides PoP, and Bruckheimer is getting a little wet around the gills.

"Whenever I tell them that they are a PR manufactured couple, they laugh. "

Heteronormativity needs very little to validate its existence.

"if Reese kicked him to the curb, he would have other chicks ready to beard for him."

But they wouldn't be as discreet, well-connected and disciplined as Gen. Witherspoon. And remember, Jake is a relatively lonely man who needs constant monitoring and companionship. How many blonde bimbos in HW would jet all over the world for him?

"He wanted a A-list popular actress, not the frumpy Greta Caruso his family tried to set him up with."

She certainly is frumpy.

"Jake has more chemistry with Ellen."

Jake has more chemistry with his dog.

"IUC Exclusive: IUC Investigation Reveals Jake Definitely a Flaming Poofter - Relationship with Reese is Toast"

Perhaps he senses that Jake is vulnerable right now. Jake needs to secure another movie deal ASAP, or the speculations will continue.

Reese is like Fincher. She is connected and talented, but she isn't well-liked in the industry.

Anonymous said...

"Yes, Reeke are fauxmancing, adults can see that."

Heh. You would hope so. But I know many adults who don't. I think it almost goes beyond them not caring. It's them not wanting to believe the relationship is fake. Some of these women don't want him to be gay because it interrupts their fantasies. They won't get him whether he's gay or straight, but if he's with Reese Witherspoon, at least they can daydream about meeting him and jumping over heaven clouds and picking daisies and doing other blah blah blah bullshit together.

As far as Disney not using gay characters, we should give them some credit. Afterall, Flower from Bambi was CLEARLY gay. Do cartoons count??? Pathetic I know.

Even though IUC outed Jake Gyllenhaal yesterday, I’m reserving judgment on this new development until I see more proof. IUC spoke to a prominent West Hollywood man today who claims he was “intimate” with “Toothy” going far as back as 2004. The man, in his mid forties, told IUC he has evidence and is planning to reveal bits soon. This is the fifth time in the last three weeks IUC has been in contact with the man, who used to live in a Beverly Hills mansion before moving to West Hollywood. DEVELOPING

Millions have faced intolerance, braved the hate, and flourished. Millions of ordinary people who faced losing their 45K/yr job - or less - refused to be false.

Bandmate Mark Owen, 37, watched as Rob, 34, and Howard pleasured themselves. ‘That was an odd one, that,’ he tells Q magazine. ‘I think I was more of an observer.’

Somebody has to be the first one to come out, and Jake was in the perfect position to do it. He gained his fame from BBM, and won the hearts of many a gay man and straight woman who loved seeing him in a love story with another man. He did not get to the edge of stardom by being the straight heartthrob, unlike Clooney and Leo. He was sexy, confident, charming, loved his family and dogs. Add to that he had Austin, he wasn't just another gay man on the prowl from conquest to conquest.

And times have changed a lot since Clooney and Leo came on the scene, and Jake is part of a new generation in HW. Clooney got his start in the 80s when gay people were still fighting aids and job discrimination, and it would really have been impossible to a star to be out. Don't forget that back then HW still had the world convinced that you couldn't have a leading man who was black, and now Will Smith is the biggest star there is. Things had gotten better by Leo's time, but still nobody really out even in television, music, politics.

Jake really was in a position to possibly change things in a way no one else of his generation could. By not doing it we're losing a whole generation. Jake could have been a hero and role model, instead he not only didn't come out, he did a 180 and put HW back 50 years with his bearding and daily photo opps with the General, not to mention trying to make the world think Eva and Deacon are like his own kids, all while hiding his own child as if it is the worst embarrassment in the world to him.

Jake could have been a contender, instead he's turned into one of the most pathetic closet cases I've seen outside of religion (Haggard) or politics (Craig).

If Jake had just decided to not come out, and live his life privately, I would have been disappointed, but I would have understood it, realized he didn't have it in him to change the world or take those risks. But I can't forgive him for the over-the-top, 2/7 bearding, which includes that fucking hike with the "family" days after Heath died, and a year later still not one word about Heath.

I hope someone outs him, it couldn't happen to a better person.

I would think all the people who wanted Jake to be out and others like him WOULD SEE EVERY MOVIE THEY WERE IN MANY, MANY TIMES. I think having big box office numbers would be the ONLY way to keep the powers that be hiring open actors. Skip other movies but see the ones who stars openly gay, lesbian, bi cast members. If Jake is outed, buy his movies on DVD. Rent them on Netflix and other places. Show he has support. Otherwise, we will have another generation of people hiding.

Put your money where your mouth is. Or, is it all talk?

Anonymous said...

7:22 I agree but I think Jake's gone over to the dark side and think he's got alot of support, over there, and that he's scared enuff to need that support, which he is not getting from the H'wood gay community and about this I do wonder.

Men and women I know who have come out in the midst of conventional careers have been taken in and supported by GLBT community. Jake apparently finds the H'wood gay community "a very diff'rent world"

Wish I understood this better.

Anonymous said...

Oh absolutely. I'd support him and others like him, no question about it. I'm a straight woman, and his performance as Jack affected me like very few others have. He definitely has my support, I think he's a fine young actor.

Makes me wonder what Jake and Reese "mean" by their apparent contract to be "supportive" of one another. Show up for photo ops?

Anonymous said...

Do any of y'all think this Ian deal will force Jake to marry Reese? Do ya think he would be that stupid or desperate? I predict a Valentines engagement ring and a year long engagement to hold over Disney until PoP in 2010. Broken off of course 2 months before PoP because Jake has to be "available" to the fans in fantasy. Married sex symbol action stars are death at the box office.

I think there could be an engagement, but broken off, or maybe this will inspire Jake to come out on his own, like some others did? I don't think it's fair to expect a male star to be "available" to fans in fantasy, lots of actors are married, doesn't hurt them at the box office.

Anonymous said...

"Makes me wonder what Jake and Reese "mean" by their apparent contract to be "supportive" of one another. Show up for photo ops?"

That "supportive" convo overheard was right before Reese's Vogue hit the market. The one where the romance with the bf who's not named by her but written as a fantasy by the ghost author. I think Jake vehemently opposed the crap she pulled with that one. I can see her comng back and saying "I support you all the time" blah blah blah while rationalizing that the Vogue story was something of hers he had to support.

Anonymous said...

By remaining in The Closet, they have same career prospects as their straight colleagues.

Can you imagine what would happen if every gay HW actor (A, B, C, D listers whatever) decided to come out? Straights would have to accept a now hidden reality and make peace with it... or give up watching movies, TV, etc.

Whether we like it or not, each and everyone in the HW closet feeds stereotypes and homophobia.

And the proof is all those people who still claim - and BELIEVE!!! - there are very few gay actors in HW!

Anonymous said...

Brad Pitt, for one, is virtually married, Johnny Depp, the same.

Anonymous said...

Many people here are still under the impression that Jake Gyllenhaal is a tween idol like Daniel Radcliffe or Robert Pattinson. He is not. And I don't think that's the career he's aiming for. The idea that he needs to be available for this fans' fantasies sounds straight out of the 50s.

As for the Hollywood gay community - which Hollywood gay community are you speaking of? The celebrity Hollywood gay community or those on the fringe? Let's be honest here, the Hollywood gay community only care about themselves and how they are perceived. They could give a shit less about Jake Gyllenhaal.

Anonymous said...

"I don't think it's fair to expect a male star to be "available" to fans in fantasy, lots of actors are married, doesn't hurt them at the box office."

Maybe not fair but its reality. Look how just Jake hanging with Reese brought down his fan site traffic. I estimate at least 75% posts and site hits were dropped at IHJ alone.

Christian Bale is married, had his beautiful wife front and center with him at one of the award ceremonies, GGs I think. I still adore him, my boss even thinks he's sexy. Doesn't hurt him at the box office. If Jake and Reese truly are a couple, they deserve happiness and a life of their own. Fantasy is fantasy; doesn't matter if they are married! They are never "available".

Part of the problem is that the men (and yes, it's almost all men) who run the movie side of HW are older and invested in the status quo. In contrast, people running the television world tend to be younger and more open to change, which is why you not only see some openly gay stars, but plenty of gay people in reality shows, as part of story plots, etc. And you know what the really ironic thing is? Television is the one with the older, more mainstream audience. Movies in contrast get a much younger crowd. Now if television viewers can accept gay characters and stars, why not movies????

As for turning out to see Jake in movies, most people these days chose movies because of the genre or the story, not because of who is in it, again, Will Smith seems to be the exception. The movies big stars like Clooney, Pitt, Jolie, Leo, etc., at the end of the day, have not made the big money.

And all you have to do is look at what topped the box office week after week last year and in January to see this: Chihuahuas, Wall-Eye, Mall Cop, Slum Dog Millionaire.....how many people can even name one actor in the latter. Now can a star help, well yes, movies like The Dark Knight and Iron Man did better than they probably would have because they had good actors, people with charisma, etc. But if those same people had appeared in Zodiac, Rendition, etc., they still wouldn't have done well. Do you really think Dark Knight would have tanked if Christian Bale or Heath were gay?

Anonymous said...

As for turning out to see Jake in movies, most people these days chose movies because of the genre or the story, not because of who is in it.

I totally agree here, unless I start to associate an actor with quality movies, like DDL, KW, CB, Tobey, etc. - I hope Jake will be one of these, I do follow him because of how outstaaaaanding he was in Brokeback, Heath too, Michelle and Anne.

Now if television viewers can accept gay characters and stars, why not movies????

This is very interesting; audiences are more open-minded than they are given credit for, I think. :)
