That's what happens when you haven't been in a movie since Oct. 2007, when your next three films are postponed, and when you've spent more time over the past 16 months arranging a fauxmance consisting of staged photo-ops and planted false rumors than acting (stage or screen), writing, producing, directing or doing any meaningful political work.

The biggest story of the day seems to be the announcement of a "Donnie Darko," sequel known as "S. Darko." However, studios seem to be taking the picture lightly with Chris Fisher helming the project and actors Jake Gyllenhaal with Maggie Gyllenhaal suspiciously absent. Instead prepare for Ed Westwick and Elizabeth Berkley to headline...
S. Darko takes place in the summer of 1995, seven years after the original film. It follows Donnie Darko's younger sister, Samantha (Daveigh Chase), who, in the wake of his death, has found herself at age 17 with a broken family, mired in feelings of insignificance. She and her best friend Corey (Evigan) set off on a road trip to Hollywood in a bid to 'make it big', but their journey is cut short when their car breaks down unexpectedly, leaving them stranded in a small desert town. When a meteorite happens to crash-land nearby, Samantha is plagued by bizarre visions telling of the universe's end and it appears that their breakdown was part of some grander plan. When she finds out she was actually adopted by the Darkos, and that she is in no way related to Donnie, she must face her own demons and, in doing so, save the world and herself(Internet).
This breaking story from Bloody-disgusting.com states that "S. Darko," will be heading straight to DVD/Blu-ray formats and thus, the film will probably be exploring B-movie territory...

7:19: Fincher is not well liked in HW, he should be grateful B. Button got these nominations after being dissed last year for Zodiac. He hasn't won anything so far and he won't next week either.
Despite the dislike he is the "it" director of the moment so no wonder Jake showed up. Brad I assume likes him since he did 3 movies with him but I'm sure Brad had more important things to do that night.
So, what do you think:

I am being to think that some of you don't really have a problem with Reese, but a serious problem with the idea of Jake having a "girlfriend" who may be perceived as more famous or powerful that him.
Why would you consider that aspect of it problematic unless you think a man must always be the more powerful figure in a relationship.

Showdown at the Internet corral: IUC receives death threats for outing The Duke
Seems like IUC touched a redneck nerve when we outed John Wayne last week, quoting an employee of the Valley’s Sportsmen’s Lodge revealing that Wayne used to bring men there for fishing and sex. He also said a chambermaid from the Lodge once caught the Duke getting serviced by a guy in the middle of the afternoon. Within minutes of posting the story, I received a death threat from somebody threatening to “blow up” our site. Another warned that if I ever step foot in Texas, I’ll be “lynched.” I’m taking these threats seriously and have reported them to the proper authorities who are investigating.
Meanwhile, IUC has been contacted by two different people claiming that they worked on Wayne films where the Duke (whose given name, by the way, was Marion) brought guys into his trailer for sex.
If Wayne were alive today, and I ran into him on the street (or in a bathhouse), I suspect I know what his response would be to these
claims: “I haven’t lost my temper in 40 years but Pilgrim, you caused a lot of trouble this morning and somebody oughta belt you in the mouth. But I won’t. I won’t. The hell I won’t!”

And if she is the stronger person in the relationship, what exactly is wrong with that?

Do you think it's acceptable behaviour, or does it show that Jake is a selfish man, Reese, in my humble opinion, definitely is. What does this tell you about Jake? I did check out Ian's webcast tonight. Some interesting stuff. He said that Jake has been seen with Austin, but he's not sure that they are a couple. He may clarify that later.
But the most interesting thing that he said was that Jake had been in love with Heath and had his heart broken. He also implied that Jake never got over that, but I'm not sure what that means.
Now I was always sure that Jake had a small crush on Heath, but Ian said it was love. That is a big difference.
Just curious. I've never been in an unrequited love situation. If you are dealing with someone who's head or heart may be messed up due to a situation like this, would it possibly be easier to manipulate this person? Is it possible that you may decide that if you can't get what you want, you will focus on something else (like your career)?
I know that some don't believe this could be possible because of Jake's silence and his behavior after Heath's death, but I wonder if his seemingly inexplicable behavior may be track back to his feelings for Heath.

It looked like Jake was about to kiss Heath! Looked like Jake almost forgot where he was and was letting his true feelings show. He did not look at Michelle like that at the BAFTA's. When I saw that clip, I was shocked and said "oh no Jake". I could not believe I said that because I felt he just dropped his guard. And it looked as if Heath's guard was deffinately up and his body language seem to keep things in perspective. I had not heard or read about any rumors at that time. For all the gay or bi men here I'll say it was when the you and someone are or were involved secretly and one of you momentarily dropped your guard and becomes effectionate with the person around other people and the other kinda pulls away as to say "not here". And the other kinda says oh you're right with their body language. I just saw the exact type of body language / reaction in a movie call "Shelter".

9:22, that makes total sense. But I DO think Jake and Austin had a thing. Also, I was ALWAYS conscious of the fact that Austin was a similar type to Heath (at least around BBM). I remember even a few non-hostile DC'ers commenting on that--with one person saying that's was always one of the reasons why she liked Austin because he reminded her of Heath--similar type. (But to me, Austin was more effeminate whereas Heath wasn't--but very similar physicality).
About the rumors that Jake and Heath hooked up the summer before Heath died--first in LA and then a few months later in NY (at the Hudson Hotel), I think there could be some truth here, particularly if Jake was burning a torch for Heath. Heath was breaking up/broken up wiht Michelle at that point and this was the beginning of his decline. He became very fragile and vulnerable--his insomnia worsened...even though I DO think Heath was basically straight (and gay-friendly), I think it's more than possible that Heath might have surrendered himself to Jake's crush just because Heath was in a bad state and desperate for any type of affection/affirmation.
It would explain Jake's odd behavior after Heath's death.

To be honest, it never crossed my mind at all about Jake being gay when I saw Brokeback. Many straight actors play gay, and gay play straight. It's called acting, and in the case of BBM, very fine acting. It was only after I started reading about the TT rumors that I began to wonder.

I went to see the movie because of the subject matter and because I liked Heath and thought he was handsome as hell. When I saw it, I slowly became more interested in Jake. I always thought Austin WAS a substitute for Heath. From the moment I first saw pics of Austin with Heath (at the Lakers game) and around that time, I thought there was a DEFINITE similarity but with one difference: Heath was masculine and Austin---didn't exude that.Plus, Austin wasn't an Aussie but I think Jake liked Austin's Western/Texas skills--ie. horseback riding--which Heath also had (as we known) from his days in Perth.

Jake met Austin in late 2002, long before he met Heath. So I don't get the suggestion that Austin was a later substitute for Heath.

ITA with everyone about the crush. Its so obvious even in the photo calls. I can see how to Jake, Heath would always be out of reach, with his heterosexuality being more dominant than a gay side, and of course Michelle and the baby in his life. But an "out of reach" relationship always has an idolatry that goes with it, it's always gonna seem better and more perfect than reality. So maybe with Heath Jake thought it could be perfection, but what's true perfection in the long haul is a relationship that we grow from, with someone who is there 110%.

I would agree with you 1:51, except I don't think the relationship you describe as better is the one he has with Austin either. I don't see where the relationship with Austin has promoted any kind of growth, personally or profesionally.
Heath could have been hell to deal with, but I think Jake would have responded to , if not been inspired by, the constant challenge. Heath had so many interests, so many skills, and was such a superior actor that Jake would have had not choice but to respond if only to keep up.

And since you don't know anything about the real Heath or Austin but make sooo many assumptions, let me make one too and say if Heath was to influence Jake, maybe Jake would have ended dead too!
Don't get me wrong, I love Heath and think he's a better actor than Jake and waaay sexier but don't make silly statements like what Jake's life would haven been with Heath.
