Who "threatened" him? Jake's management works for him. They can tell that studios won't hire him or he can only get limited work, but they can't make him do anything.

Does anyone here think that Jake is still in love with Austin? Or is it more one-sided, that is , is Austin in love with Jake, but Jake only loves Austin?

I hereby admit that I am at the younger end of the precise target audience for Away We Go: white, college-educated with an upper-middle-class background and liberal tendencies, with a general desire to grow up and have a kid one day. Oh, and I have a mad crush on John Krasinski. So you can take it with a grain of salt that I fell head over heels for the movie's trailer. Or, you can just join me in looking forward to this lovely, gorgeous, genuinely romantic movie, from the man who most recently brought us the brutal Revolutionary Road.
Yeah, Sam Mendes already has another movie, and it's a quasi-comedy starring John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph as a couple about to have a baby and with no idea where to raise it. Over the course of the trailer they travel a lot, have dinner with various friends and relatives, and run into a hilariously hippied-out Maggie Gyllenhaal, who refuses to let her kids ride in a stroller. It's written by Dave Eggers and his wife Vendela Vida, which means it will probably push the edge of unbearably quirky while also managing to conjure up core emotional truths (see: A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius). All those potential pitfalls make me look forward to it all the more.

I find the debate about the godfather thing intriguing. Coming from the same part of the world as Heath, I have to say that naming Jake godfather at least shows a good level of trust. Around here it's not really something you do on a whim. I'm not saying Heath was in love with Jake or any of that nonsense, but godparents are usually expected to have a big part in the upbringing of a child. People can become friends very quickly sometimes, if they are the right sort of people. And 3 years can be a very long time.
I agree, but I don't think they knew each other only 3 years. There was an interview with Heath where he said that it was helpful that they were friends for a while before BBM (helpful to portray the characters). Seems they knew each other longer than that. Not that it's that important, I just thought I'd clear that up.

Despite the bearding and being an actor Jake does not hide strong feelings well. They show on his face.
You can read anger, happiness, and misery on his face despite what some posters seen to think.
What you can't do is tell why he's feeling those feelings.

38 West Point Grads Come Out of the Closet in Show of Force
The Navy Times reports on Knights Out, a group of 38 graduates of West Point, who came out of the closet yesterday and offered to serve as liaisons between alumni and Army administrators as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is in the process of being repealed as well as a support group for LGBT US Military Academy active duty alumni, cadets, and their families:
"'We’re publicly announcing our sexuality, our orientation,' said 1st Lt. Dan Choi, a National Guardsman with the 1st Bn., 69th Infantry, based in Manhattan. 'It’s just one part of who we are in saying that we are standing to be counted.' In forming Knights Out, its 38 members are following the example of similar support and education groups formed by graduates of the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy, known respectively as USNA Out and Blue Alliance. Most if not all of these groups’ members also belong to the Service Academy Gay and Lesbian Alumni social network, a group that Knights Out claims includes some active-duty commanders serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Choi, a Korean by descent, is a combat veteran of Iraq who graduated from West Point in 2003 with a degree in Arabic language. He said his unit is aware that he’s a homosexual and added, 'I’m very comfortable with all the repercussions right now. To me, it’s about doing the right thing, not about trying to fit into the process that gets you the rank or prevents you from getting a discharge. Two music videos that represent actor Heath Ledger's last directorial work before his death in January 2008 will be released this year.
Modest Mouse plans to release the animated video for "King Rat," a bonus track from the band's 2007 "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank," Billboard has confirmed. The news was first reported by Spin magazine on its Web site. A video for Grace Woodroofe's cover of David Bowie's "Quicksand" is also set for release this year, along with her Ben Harper-produced debut album, the L.A. Weekly reports.
The Oscar-winning actor directed "King Rat" for Modest Mouse after meeting singer Isaac Brock in Australia. "Heath and I have a mutual friend and when we were in Australia, my fiance and some of us in the band went out on a boat with him and his family and friends and talked about the idea," Brock told VH1 in 2007 interview. "The idea sort of dropped, but then he just sent me an email saying that he wanted to do it."
The video is animated by director and illustrator Daniel Auber, a member of Ledger's art collective the Massive.
Modest Mouse wrapped up its most recent tour last weekend in New York at Terminal 5. The band will perform the song "Satellite Skin" on the "Late Show With David Letterman" on Wednesday.

What's weird about Reeke shopping and looking bored? They did the same 1.000 times before.
Jake was smiling, next minute he was pissed as Hell and left the store alone - looks like no one noticed nor paid him any attention.
Receiving bad news, being angry / sad / upset, trying to control / hide emotions, makes more sense to me.
Maybe Jake got pissy in Fendi cause someone called him Mr. Witherspoon. The Chin probably laughed and his manly pride was hurt. Bit you know what they say, the truth hurts and all of Jake's bearding got him is becoming known as Reese's boyfriend and people still thinking he gay. What a brillant career choice he made. Unfortunately I think Reeke will be around for a very long time.

I haven't done my homework on this, but I've always had the impression that this godfather thing was more Jake's idea than Heath's.
And I think it has to do with Jake being gay, and struggling to find definitions for his relationships.
Heath and I aren't lovers, but we can have a formal tie if I am his daughter's godfather.

Being godfather was not Jake's idea. He said he was surprised and honored at the request.
You don't seriously think Jake would ask to be godfather. Do you really think he could tell Heath what to do?
It was Heath's choice. We may never really know why.

However, I do agree with both of the scenerios, but tend to lean more towards they were fuck buddies, thought about giving it a try (partners in a relationship), got scared from the attention (I know Austin did - Jake seemed more willing and fuck everyone's advice, Austin's my man attitude (in the past)), put both of their careers first and foremost, now just friends. And maybe an ocassional hookup. JMO
Austin strikes me as a fairly private person, and I don't think he has any desire to trade places with Reese and be a media whore. And people make compromises in relationships all the time, something some posters here don't seem to understand--sometimes I get the feeling they don't really know what it is like to be in a real relationship. Relationships are messy, and people have to compromise. For all we know Jake has made compromises in the relationship too, we just may not see them.
And the shame is on Jake, not Austin, who isn't bearding and isn't running away from "the gay"--quite the opposite, it would seem, from Prayers for Bobby and The Informers.

Michelle and Heath were quite emotional when they replied to the BBC reporter that they named Jake as the godfather. I remember seeing that bit on the news from the Bafta's. There was no joke in Heath's demeanor and he was with Michelle on his arm, who was also emotional and reassuring for Heath. I remember thinking "what's up"?

Someone will have to help me out with this, but there's a woman named Theresa (don't know the last name)who used to run a blog about Heath and was actually friends with him.
Apparantly Heath actually used to log in on occassion. One of those times he said that he didn't understand why some people thought that he and Jake were no longer friends just because there were no pap pics of them. He then mentioned sometime about flying under the radar or words to that effect.
I think the blog was called Heath Central, but I don't remember when this particular exchange took place.

I think J & H stop seeing each other in the last couple of years, mostly because of being in different states, workin on films and family issues that kep them busy (specially Heath) but not because they had some kind of fight and ended the friendship
Teresa used to run "Heath Ledger Central", she claims to know Heath and yes, there was this exchange with Heath were he said he and Jake are still friends, but it's actually nobody's business but theirs. I'm paraphrasing here, he actually didn't sound as rude as I do. (Though we can never be sure if it really was Heath).
The thing is, we'll probably never know how close they were before, during and after BBM. What I don't believe is that Michelle chose Jake, since Heath and Jake seemed way closer than Jake and Michelle (or maybe they were closer than we think, if the dating rumor is true). I think Heath chose him either way. Why he chose him? I've no idea. Michelle chose her best friend since her teenage days, Busy Phillips, Heath probably had the right to choose "his person" and he chose Jake.

IDK, there are quite a few things that speak against your theory. The same favourite movie of 2007 (Once), the Michael Stipe glasses pics just a few days apart in NYC, Heath's pullover (or at least completely identical pullover) on the cover of "Interview" that Jake wore. And Jake saying Heath was a "true friend" in the January VF Italy issue. May all be coincidences and Jake's "true friend" a lie. We can not know.

This European photo-fest should be as much of a lesson to all J/Austin fans as the J/Austin pics were to all Reekers. Both groups are getting played like a violin in order to distract everyone from a simple truth : Jake's career is in a semi-stall, and there's nothing that CAA, Disney, People Magazine, Reese, US Weekly, Lainey, the National Enquirer or TMZ can do about it. No amount of gossip-rag spin, staged photo-ops, bearding innuendo or media manipulation can change the fact that Jake has not firmly booked another film for a year, and, from all indications, the Oscar-worthy directors don't appear to be all that interested in him.
Only Jake can change this situation. Let's hope that he's sweats away his frustrations in yoga class, rolls up his sleeves and gets back to doing what he does best : acting in well-directed, well-written movies. Soon. 2008. We are only three months into 2009. I think it's a little early to think someone's career is stalled. We also don't know if he is choosing to take a break.
