There’s been a lot of commotion regarding Ricky Martin’s recent coming out statement on his official website. As with most things in life these days, I learned about the news on Facebook. So, I immediately posted about the news as well and quickly joined in the jubilee of queerness and pranced about the office like a middle school-aged boy who accidently touched hands with his classroom crush. I even committed the blasphemy of comparing the news to that of Health Care Reform and the release of Apple’s iPad (insert sound of angel choir here).
And then, of course, there was the storm of cattiness that followed the news. As a queer Xicano, I admit that sarcasm is built into my genetic code. The survivor of four Christian-themed religions and 500+ years of white supremacist occupation, I find humor, irony and disbelief in most things. Still, yesterday I just wanted to celebrate.
I agree that the fact that Ricky is gay is not all that shocking. Queer men and not long speculated or asserted that he shook his bon bon far too well to be straight. Plus, for us jotos/maricones/patos, there was the added benefit of dreaming him up queer, which somehow put us that much closer to his arms.
Still, as the catty remarks continue, as people boast about how they knew and think he should have done this 10 years ago, or sassy queens dismiss the news as inconsequential, I say, look beyond our borders (geographic, cultural, and age-based) and take a minute to honor the fact that for many, Ricky’s coming out is groundbreaking, perhaps even life-saving.

So Ricky was doing more than living la vida loca; he was, in fact, a loca. To the trained eye, this is just confirmation that our gaydar runs on more than hormones and dreams.
Hormones, dreams and cattiness aside, I challenge the ungleeful remarks about Ricky’s coming out.
As with most performers who began as Spanish-language artists, Ricky began over 10 years ago. The Barbara Walters interview (assuming it was Barbara, I can never tell who is behind that cloud of light) did have me on the edge of my teenage self, hoping he’d come out and proclaim his gayness, but it wasn’t his beginning. Ricky’s career began decades ago.
Long before the Latin Explosion, which was more of a Latin Spark, Ricky had left his imprint on the Spanish pop scene of the late 80’s and early to mid-90’s. Back when Thalía and Paulina were still artists and relevant, before Gloria Trevi’s traumatic (for her and her fans) imprisonment in Brazil, and before Alejandra Guzmán would be hospitalized for too much botox on her behind, there was a cultural movement in Latin America.
As a pre-teen growing up in a rural town of 300 in northern México, Thalía, Paulina, Gloria, Alejandra and Ricky were my window into another world. Their performances pushed, albeit at times gently and censured, the boundaries of repressive cultural norms. From flowers wrapped around a microphone to songs about teen pregnancy and abortion, these young performers were resisting and embodying another realm of cultural possibilities. Ricky gave boys the excuse (and perhaps reason) to shake our hips in ways that would otherwise be condemned as obscene.
The dismissal of Ricky’s coming out seems to be rooted in an U.S.-centric perspective where we have the opportunity to stop celebrating any queer image on TV and offer our critique. There is so much gayness these days that we can spend our days and dissertations balking at how a character isn’t gay enough, is too gay, is too white, etc. And although we don’t actually have the type of representation GLAAD and I would like to see, we have a whole lot more than we did in México in 1992 (except, of course, Ricky gently caressing his long hair on stage… oh, and Locomía).
I am not critiquing the fact that we spend so much time criticizing queer portrayals in the media. To the contrary, I am celebrating the fact that we can. In fact, I’d go further and ask why queer people of color media performance and productions are so weak, lame and superficial. Having once curating a queer people of color cultural arts program, I know we can do better.
What I am critiquing is that our criticisms of Ricky’s coming out has us falling into the pitfall of imagining and defining all things queer through a U.S. lens. I even joked about the fact that he used the term “homosexual” to define himself. And now, in retrospect I find that identifying as a “fortunate homosexual” was much more powerful than a simple “gay.”
Perhaps for the jaded queen living in urban U.S., the oversaturation of gayness in the media has deemed Ricky insignificant and worthy of our dismissal. For that frightened and confused 12 year old in rural Chihuahua, it’s monumental.
My coming out process was stumped by the fact that I could not even imagine my queerness, let alone live it. At the time, the saturation of gayness was mostly strictly white. It wasn’t until queer brown men like Jaime Cortez and Emanuel Xavier fearlessly (or perhaps fearfully) exposed their work and their bodies to the sun of public criticism, that I was able to imagine myself.
Whether U.S. fags approve or not, Ricky is a prominent figure here, and more importantly, in Latino América. Ricky’s coming out makes it possible for young boys in countless homes to imagine themselves as something other than confused.
For this, I say to Ricky: gracias. And, you know where to find me.

Very true. So do the majority of blue and white collar workers, so it's not the same thing. All of the filming and promotion just doesn't happen in the span of a few hours or even a day, also in other countries. It's time consuming, tv appearances and premieres, etc. and toting young children across the globe is no way to raise a child either.
Any responsible person who would choose to have a child wouldn't do that. Jake as much as said he doesn't have his own kids in the Lorraine Kelly interview.
but your bias is definitely showing.
Nah, it's called common sense, something most Jaustinites don't have.
Prairiegirl,
please start using your common sense and stop making up things that don't exist. Please.
You guys accuse me of ignoring truths?
Yes. You are ignoring facts and avoiding answering simple questions.
12:24, you don't have any right saying that. I'm sorry you feel that way.
It's no wonder I always end up sorry when I come over here. It's too bad we can't be friends.
Um, maybe everyone should just let people believe what they want. Unless someone gets insulting and condescending,I don't care what someone else believes. I personally don't believe in BT - but I'm not bothered that people do. And I really don't have a strong opinion on Jake and Austin because that could be a very complicated, on-off thing or it maybe doesn't exist at all, who knows? So it's all cool. The only thing I don't appreciate is if someone thinks I'm an Austin "hater" or some such silliness just because I'm not convinced there is a relationship there.
Why can't weeee be friends...why can't we be frieeeeends!!
Now I'll, be stuck with that tune for the rest of the day...thanks a lot,Prairigirl! :(
I'd be careful, 12:18, there could be something or a few things you don't know. Could end up making you think twice about what you profess to know.
Bring it on. But if I were you, I wouldn't tell anyone to be careful, remember your meltdown re the Cavill rumor that in the end amounted to nothing? There could be lots of things we don't know about Jake, for sure, things than have absolutely nothing to do with Austin. What if they come out (no pun) one day? I'd hate to see your reaction then.
It's too bad you can't stop posting about BT like he/she is a proven fact and understand that people have different opinions.
Nah, it's called common sense, something most Jaustinites don't have.
Congratulations, you've proved my point again. Now, the application of sarcasm. Seems there are some folks here who are threatened by those with a open-mind. Wonder why? Oh, I know, because those purveyors of "truth" know it all and everyone else is just an unreasonable, stupid, no common sense rube. Your bias is showing again.
By the way, what about military families where both parents are deployed for months on end? Let's face it, there are all kinds of extended family structures these days. We are not in Beaver Cleaver land any more. Love is what bonds a family together. I would think in the 21st century people who support gay rights would be a lot more welcoming of different constructs and approaches to family. Apparently, not. So wonder, many choose to stay in the closet. Too many people quick to condemn and judge instead of welcome and accept.
12:34 PM,
I will never support irresponsible and lousy parents. I don't give a damn if they are gay, ALL parents should make an effort to raise happy and healthy kids.
Why can't weeee be friends...why can't we be frieeeeends!!
Now I'll, be stuck with that tune for the rest of the day...
LOL :)
By the way, what about military families where both parents are deployed for months on end?
They don't hide their kids in closets.
I will never support irresponsible and lousy parents. I don't give a damn if they are gay, ALL parents should make an effort to raise happy and healthy kids.
If Jake and Austin have a child, or two, how do you know they are not the best of parents? No one has come up with a timeline yet to prove they are not with the children in between their public appearances. None of us know what is happening behind the scenes.
12:42 PM #2 = playing stupid x 10.
No one has come up with a timeline yet to prove they are not with the children in between their public appearances.
Public appearances?????????????????
BT was born in 2007. Jake was filming Brothers and wasn't in LA. Then he was filming Nailed and wasn't in LA. Then he was filming POP and wasn't in US.
You don't know if both are deployed for months on end - also, with a man and a woman, a pregnancy could be unplanned. Then you have to go with it and adjust. For Jake and Austin, they chose to have a family, so it's different. The children come first, gay or straight. If a career is more important, maybe you shouldn't have a family. Yes, families are based on love - but you have to be physically present to give it, otherwise the child will bond with the person who is. It has nothing to do with gay or straight. Anyway, I'm not saying BT doesn't exist, just that there's room for doubt. But then the BT cult has to descend and accuse.
Military families also don't choose when there will be a war, and when they will be deployed.
But then the BT cult has to descend and accuse.
Proving the point again. Now, folks who want to be open-minded belong to a cult. This would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.
A lot of peple have a hard time raising a family, but we are talking about privileged people here.
For example, Austin could afford not to work for a year, stay with the baby and spend more time as a family.

??? Has Austin taken a year off of work? I'm not sure what point you're making by saying he "could" do something that he clearly has NOT done.
No, he didn't, because there is no BT.
Austin and Jake seem to do a good job of alternating their work schedules so that while one of them is working, the other is spending time with Baby Tile. With Nanny and grand parents to help, its not so hard to pull off. Good chance Jake had Baby Tile with him in Morocco, London and Paris. Baby carriages, long driveways with enclosed garages, the baby in the POP group photo.
My point was that Jake and Austin can affort to be doting parents, but they either don't care about that or there is no BT.

Ah, okay. Thanks. I don't believe there is a BT.
the baby in the POP group photo
Jake would risk that 100+ people find out about his hidden baby? Jake would keep his kid in the trailer on the movie set? Jake would keep his kid in the hotel with a nanny for 2-3 months? You would call that good parenting?
Both of their whereabouts can be confirmed at the same time, and a lot of the time, it's away from CA and NY. No way to raise one child, nevermind two. Where would they have time to spend with not only their own, but Ramona and Matilida? I'm sorry, there's room for doubt. Some unknown cardiac surgeon somewhere doesn't convince. Maybe his or her partner is at home. I'm not a big believer in two high-powered career couples being able to raise a family as well. You have to make sacrifices somewhere along the line; nobody can have it all. In some families, both have to work out of financial necessity, but if you don't have to, it's better for the children to have one parent available, JMO. A picture of a child in Morocco means nothing.
Of course this makes perfect sense. If such wishes were perfect and granted, there would be no more divorce, juvenile delinquints and inter-office love & sexual affairs now, would there?
Interesting, the PR lackey's must have gone on break. Hitting the ol' vending machines right now as I write. Pavlov's dog will hit the buzzer, though, as soon as I hit "publish" and they'll be back to spew their insults & shout downs.
Have I ever said BT is being brought up under the most ideal of circumstances? I don't think so. But I also don't doubt he or she is being brought up with the most love possible.
No one knows where Jake and Austin are all the time. Vague statements about filming don't cut it. As I said before, we know that Jake & Austin were both in LA the weekend of Apr 24 and both guys specifically were not detected that entire day of Austin's birthday.
We know that Jake had a wedding band-type ring under his shirt the day he was on those crutches. The only reason it was seen was because he was unaware of it and it poked through a gap in his shirt.
We know that Jake had a wedding band type ring on his right ring finger the day he was pictured arriving at Heathrow for the PoP promotion. It was not seen during the rest of that week but he was surely displaying it for the camera during that photo op. Why?
The fact that someone can be shouted down on here by lame statements like "stop playing stupid" and "please use common sense & stop making things up. Please" is representative of close-mindedness. The fact that comments such as mine made this morning are met by attempts to insinuate delusion, dimentia or mental instability speak volumes for the counter ability to validly argue or simply ignore because the same belief is not shared.
It is totally possible that Jake & Austin share a household now with one if not two children. Their own children. If the day ever comes when it is definitely proven untrue, you better believe I will be on here and I will eat crow. You all know me by now. When I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong.
But I really, really don't think I am on this one. I think what Jake & Austin have going is one of the biggest, publicly secret but well known HW secret going on at the present time. It is a story that memoir books are made of.
Anyone who has one child, never mind two, knows it is very difficult trying to coordinate schedules. Kids don't pay attention to schedules. They get sick, stuff happens, some things are out of anyone's control.
Yes, Austin could take time off, and so could Jake, if they wanted a family to take priority.
Jake has also said now is the time for his career - he has to strike while the iron is hot. Which is what he is doing, concentrating on his career. Not to say that he wouldn't plan to have children with Austin sometime in the future - but I don't think they are doing it now.
Everyone is strangely silent about the fact that Jake said he doesn't have kids in the Lorraine Kelly interview.
Also, I don't think two members of the same household would be deployed at the same time - that would not be responsible if something were to happen to both of them, and I think the military allows for exclusion of one for that.
And I'll be the first to admit it if I am wrong also. :) I actually think it is a beautiful thing, but I just don't know if that's what's happening with them.
No one knows where Jake and Austin are all the time. Vague statements about filming don't cut it.
We know when Jake filmed movies. We know when Austin filmed OTH. There is nothing vague about that, you just choose to deny obvious facts like movie filming schedule.
At least Chris is still in Jake's life. There's still something real in Jake's world (ie. someone who isn't in the entertainment industry, which excludes his family).
I think what Jake & Austin have going is one of the biggest, publicly secret but well known HW secret going on at the present time.
In your opinion, when will Jake, Austin and kids come out of the closet?
The fact that someone can be shouted down on here by lame statements like "stop playing stupid" and "please use common sense & stop making things up. Please" is representative of close-mindedness.
Close-mindedness because we would like to see something, anything in Jake or Austin behaviour that would indicate they are still together or that they are spending time with kids? You call that close-mindedness?
That's the other thing - gay parents of kids in the real world could never be closeted, even if they tried. There's school, friends, babysitters, nannies, grandparents, doctor appts., too many people involved. It would be terrible parenting.
prairiegirl, I'm 12:32 pm who said that people should let others believe what they want w/o insulting them, so I don't have a problem with anything you've said, except for:
Interesting, the PR lackey's must have gone on break.
Please, please stop insisting that anyone who disagrees with you, even if they are rude about, is a "PR lackey." That simply isn't true. There are many people at WFT2 who don't have any doubt that Jake is gay, they just don't believe or aren't sure he's living with Austin and/or they have a baby. That doesn't make them "PR lackies."
Everyone is strangely silent about the fact that Jake said he doesn't have kids in the Lorraine Kelly interview.
People who believe in BT believe Ted without questioning and don't care about any other arguments.
Everyone is strangely silent about the fact that Jake said he doesn't have kids in the Lorraine Kelly interview.
I don't believe in BT. But I don't see that the Lorraine Kelly interview proves anything. Clearly, if he did have a secret child that he wants to keep secret, he's not going to have a problem lying to an interviewer. Obviously, Jake doesn't lie about everything, but when it suits his purpose he has no problem being (as he calls himself) a "bullshitter." Isabel "Who" Lucas comes to mind. And I don't believe for one second that he was "starstruck" talking to Tom Cruise. Please. He just told that interviewer what they wanted to hear. Again, I don't believe in BT, and I happen to think he was telling Lorraine Kelly the truth to that particular question. But I don't believe every word that comes out of Jake's mouth - not by a long shot.
"Isabel Who" I took as his being coy with the media - lying about a child is an entirely different thing. He has control about what kinds of questions are asked, and he could have said beforehand that topic was not to be brought up. I can't believe he'd lie about his own child, or about being Matilda's godfather. I'd take the man's own word over a gossip columnist, especially when TT hasn't officially been named.
"Isabel Who" - I'm sure Jake told the truth during WonderCon press conference.
I don't think he told the truth during Wonder Con. It was a question Jake didn't want to waste his time with. It was probably a couple of times partying with her while on location.
lying about a child is an entirely different thing
If there is BT then Jake is lying about him/her for years and there are other people who are lying for Jake for years.
Television production schedules are far more stable and routine than a movie shoot. If one were willing to think about it and not follow the groupthink that goes on here most of the time, it's interesting that Austin, except for a short production called, "The True-Love Tale of Boyfriend & Girlfriend" has taken only two movie roles since 2007: "Beautiful Boy" and "Fencewalker". Both shot on location in and around Los Angeles. Jake is the one who travels to different locations and is the movie star in the family. Austin's professional life is downright homey and settled in comparison. One partner the primary breadwinner, the other providing the domestic underpinnings for raising a family. No I can't prove they are together, but I'm not delusional either. The problem is no one is willing to explore other possiblities except their cemented points of view.
^^It's entirely possible. I think some people said as much. Don't tell us about groupthink, some of the BT'ers are a prime example of it.
Don't tell us about groupthink, some of the BT'ers are a prime example of it.
I was not focusing the comment at any particular encampment. No need to get defensive, if the shoe doesn't fit you.
It was a question Jake didn't want to waste his time with.
Not true, Jake took the time to answer the question.
AFTER that there was some gossip about Isable Who, so Jake lied about having a dinner to some Italian rag (virtual bearding).
Jake meeting Isabel Who was, IMO, an interview/audition for bearding. Jake needs a beard, someone who's the opposite of the last one - younger, sweet, no rep as being a PR whore, never married, no kids, relatively unknown. Isabel Who needs to get her pic and name out to a wider audience and be a known entity to households all over the world. What better than to team up those two as a hot couple?
^^It's entirely possible. I think some people said as much.
Actually, I don't think many commenters focus on this fact at all. Thanks for the background info on AN, 3:57.
4:00, you know the mantra around here. You said "noone", you didn't allow for any other encampment.
Jake is the one who travels to different locations and is the movie star in the family. Austin's professional life is downright homey and settled in comparison. One partner the primary breadwinner, the other providing the domestic underpinnings for raising a family.
Not sure I get it - are you saying that BT is with Austin while Jake is abroad or filming outside LA?
A TV show can be even more demanding than a movie, I have heard because it's continuous.
"Isabel Who" - I'm sure Jake told the truth during WonderCon press conference.
Okay. Then he lied later to the interviewer when he said he had dinner with her. Take your pick.
being coy with the media ...I'd take the man's own word
You can call lying all kinds of cute names - like being "coy" or whatever, but the fact remains that the "coyness" as you like to call it comes very easily to him when it suits him. I'll repeat that I don't think he was lying to Lorraine Kelly - but to simply take Jake at his "word" about everything is really naive, imo.
The problem is no one is willing to explore other possiblities except their cemented points of view.
I'm willing to explore other possiblities if people are willing to explain how BT family could work as a family.
And what is he going to say at this point in his career before the biggest movie he's ever done?
Yes, I am married. I'm married to Austin Nichols and I have a child.
Let me get out my picture and show you.
Right.
Please, please stop insisting that anyone who disagrees with you, even if they are rude about, is a "PR lackey."
I wasn't insisting anything. That was what you call a snarky comment. I don't have any idea who I've been talking to.
But to ignore the very real probability that there are times when you and I are indeed exchanging comments with Jake (and in the past, Reese's) PR employees is, in my estimation, underestimating the idea that it can happen.
Let me clarify something so that there is no misconception and I don't want to see anymore shoving of words into my mouth.
1. I don't expect everyone or hardly anyone to believe in BT. I have never, ever said that.
2. I have never said that BT (should BT exist and I think he does) is being brought up under ideal circumstances.
3. I do not like the idea of latch-key kids or kids who don't see either or both of their parents alot either. There are some kids in this world, though, who see one or both of their parents alot but are verbally or emotionally abused. Which would you rather have?
4. I repeat. I don't call on anyone to believe BT exists. I have said that more times than I care to count both here and on OMG. I've expressed what I believe and the reasons why I believe it could be true.
Someone on here a few days ago asked me if I considered anyone who didn't believe in BT a troll.
And what did I say? I said no.
There's a difference, though, between someone making logical points for both sides and having a civil discussion and someone getting personally insulting with lame "stop playing stupid" and "stop making things up" in an attempt to dismiss, squash, silence, humiliate or simply drop kick out of the community. And that reason was reason enough for me to come back and re-post some of what I had said because I made very valid, very real arguments.
You said "noone", you didn't allow for any other encampment.
4:00 didn't use the word, "noone."
it's interesting that Austin, except for a short production called, "The True-Love Tale of Boyfriend & Girlfriend" has taken only two movie roles since 2007: "Beautiful Boy" and "Fencewalker". Both shot on location in and around Los Angeles.
I'm honestly not trying to be argumentative, but Austin did make "Prayers for Bobby" in 2008 or 2009 - the tv movie that was shot (at least partly?)in Michigan, I believe. But I can see why that movie was important for him since it was the terribly sad true story of a young gay man who committed suicide.
Is it really such a big deal, the wink and a smile and an "Isabel Who"? He didn't want to discuss it, obviously. But to actually discuss the subject of children himself in an interview is different IMO.
If Pop is a success, there will be sequel(s), plus other films. He's had 3 films this year? Doesn't allow much time for anything else.
Anyone have any steaks they don't want? I'm hungry.
think what Jake & Austin have going is one of the biggest, publicly secret but well known HW secret going on at the present time. It is a story that memoir books are made of.
Memoir books? More like bad PR, I think general public wouldn't approve hidding kids in order to make more money.
I think you need to get laid PG.
A TV show can be even more demanding than a movie, I have heard because it's continuous.
I have many friends who work in the media industry and they would be completely perplexed by that comment. Many actors attached themselves to TV shows when raising a family because it is much more predictable in terms of schedule, location, hours, etc.
Everyone STOP arguing and feed me, dogdammit.

I agree with you about tossing out the "stop making things up" and "stop playing stupid comments." imo, they're not only immature, they add nothing to the conversation except rudeness and they also don't do anything to support the poster's viewpoint.

Thanks for the qualification. No, I don't think you're being argumentative. I actually omitted this particular work because the production was a TV movie and since it was filmed in Michigan, where Austin has many family members. It actually was the ideal location for him to bring a child or children while he was working. An extended family ready to assist.

Prairiegirl,
why do you keep avoiding answering direct questions and arguments against BT?
Raising children does not mean having them and then dropping them off with family members while you do something else.
I think you need to get laid
LOL as if having sex will make someone change their opinion about Jake, Austin, BT, Obama, state elections, the Gulf oil spill, the Air India crash...that's right, if anyone disagrees with you, having sex will make them agree with your opinions. Totally logical.
I think you need to get laid PG.
Ah, volunteering, are you?
Thanks if you were offering but **sigh**, I am satisfied in that area. Not constantly blissfully satisfied, but hey, satisfied and taken care of nonetheless!
I agree with you about tossing out the "stop making things up" and "stop playing stupid comments."
OK, so what do you call comments like "No one knows where Jake and Austin are all the time. Vague statements about filming don't cut it." when people point out that Jake and Austin work a lot and simply can't be together while working in different cities?
The problem is no one is willing to explore other possiblities except their cemented points of view.
I stand corrected regarding the last sentence. Rewrite: The problem is that there are commenters on this site who do not wish to explore other possibilities, except their own cemented points of view.

He's having hot humping sweaty moaning groaning sex. Can I have my filet mignon now? Medium rare.
More like bad PR, I think general public wouldn't approve hidding kids in order to make more money.
This is another one of the many reasons I don't believe in BT. He'd have to keep it a secret forever because it would just look too bad if/when it came out - and no sane person would think they could keep it a secret forever. Jake may be a lot of things - phony and opportunistic when it suits him - but I don't believe he is nuts.
Thanks 4:30. I just wish J&A would say so. There are many same sex couples in HW and everywhere who have kids, it's not so groundbreaking.

PoP had a bad overseas opening. :(
I understand now why I am not a jaustinites, what a buch of crazy peoples! I really like the jake being gay idea but this gone too far... even for fun.
Jake/austin couple having a kid is pure speculation guys, relax, take a breath and smile.
5:06 PM Details, please.
It only grossed 18 millions internationally opening day. That's nothing. I'll try to find the L.A. times article.
^^opening weekend
POP debuted in 19 foreign countries and it made only $18 million.

Jake just isn't a b.o. draw. I don't get why? He's so charming. And the movie, PoP, is an entertaining flick. I liked it better then Iron Man 2.
Oh well.
Thanks for finding the article 5:13.
Jake just isn't a b.o. draw.
For this kind of movie lead actor isn't the most important attraction.
(((Jake)))
yeah it's a good pop corn movie , better than Iron man 2 I agree. But I don't think it's relative to the " bankeability" of jake, the box office in general don't seem doing so well and movies like Robin hood aren't good success
Sigh.

I agree, 5:07. No need for anyone to get all up in arms about it - no matter what you believe.
Prairiegirl,
why do you keep avoiding answering direct questions and arguments against BT?
LOL. See comment at 16:12.
You tell me what I'm avoiding. What have I not addressed? I've read and dissected everything that's been said here today. If I don't agree or believe in some of it, how does that make it a case of avoidance?
I get that you don't believe in BT. I'm totally fine with that. I hear and understand some of the arguments against BT's existence. I've been there. Said alot of the same things.
I'm not sure what you're trying to project onto me but it's not working.
I've got to run to Penney's now.
I can't believe movies like Twilight are more successful. PoP was actually enjoyable and well acted.
You tell me what I'm avoiding. What have I not addressed?
Your silly word games are annoying, you keep preaching and ignoring people who are interested in discussing things and understanding different opinions.
PoP will do just fine, maybe it won't make $$ like Twilight saga but it will definitely recuperate production costs. All the stars will be more famous than before and the merchadishing will do the rest.
But if Jake thinks Dastan will do for his carrer what Indiana did for Harrison Ford... he better thinks again.
"I can't believe movies like Twilight are more successful"
incredible isn't it ???
POP debuted in 19 foreign countries and it made only $18 million.
Here's the part of the article that talks about PoP:
L.A. Times
"Overseas, "Prince of Persia" debuted in 19 foreign countries, including Great Britain, Germany and Spain, ahead of its worldwide bow next weekend. It took in a less-than-impressive $18 million, though distributor Walt Disney Pictures noted that the film was hurt by unseasonably warm weather in Western Europe. Its performance in those countries was well below that of several benchmark films noted by Disney, including the original "Iron Man" and the historical epic "Kingdom of Heaven."
"But if Jake thinks Dastan will do for his carrer what Indiana did for Harrison Ford... he better thinks again"
and what Indiana jones did for Ford??
he has no career anymore, was just a action movie actor despite his potential ( the witness). This guy could have made more intelligent movies with challenging roles instead of his endlessly "mister save the role" acting!
Jake come from inde cinema and will return to it,POP was just flick for fun and the positive side if the movie doesn't do well it's the certitude there will have no sequel!
Let's see if Jake can be "indie" again after all the crap he has to put on to make "PooP"
Imo Blockbusters worldwide success bring glory to you around the world but can become a prison, aka harrison ford career.

unseasonably warm weather in Western Europe
Maybe His Hotness Jake should stay away from premieres.
and what Indiana jones did for Ford??
Turned him into a legend.
"Let's see if Jake can be "indie" again after all the crap he has to put on to make "PooP"
What are you talking about ?
he never stop to make inde movie: brothers, nailed, love and other drugs...
Let's see if Jake can be "indie" again after all the crap he has to put on to make "PooP"
The movie is not "PooP". It's actually enjoyable. And Jake will continue to do indies.
harrison ford career
Harrison Ford, ex carpenter, has fantastic career. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Blade Runner and Witness are unforgettable.
"Kingdom of Heaven."
Even Orlando Bloom managed a better opening and he is a crap actor and bland, bland, bland.
I think Jake is cursed. LOL.
"Turned him into a legend"
humm ok. Dilemn, what is better:being a legend for one role, one franchise, living in nostalgy of your glorious past and being remebered only for that or being recognize by the profession for being a true actor able to take risk in various kind of roles ?? I choose the second personally.
Thanks the Lord for posters like 5:45 PM who doesn't need everything spelled out to understand
Which 5:45?
unseasonably warm weather in Western Europe
Okay, stupid question from ignorant American: Are movie theaters in Europe not air-conditioned? Because in the U.S. people flock to theaters in hot weather to get out of the heat.
"Harrison Ford, ex carpenter, has fantastic career. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Blade Runner and Witness are unforgettable."
Don't get me wrong I love the guy. I think he was talented but I regret his choice of movie all along his career. Those you qoted are great but kept him prisonner of one kind of role.
It only grossed 18 millions internationally opening day.
That's opening weekend.
Summer is the worst movie season in Europe, at least in my country.
6:02 PM Really? I wouldn't thought that, why you think that is? I've never lived or been there, so i have no idea ;)
"Summer is the worst movie season in Europe"
I wonder why Disney's executives didn't think about that..
America and Asia are more important markets than Europe.
well blockbuster movies in europe aren't as much successful as in US ,summer or not!

Why doing the premiere there,then?
I wouldn't thought that, why you think that is.
Nice weather = more fun things to do outside. Simple!

Like British accent, it's classy.
frankly I want the movie to do just well to give justice to jake. He proves he is at ease in such role and can be the perfect action hero BUT don't want sequel, one is enough. I am more eager to see source code.
Please, Disney was hoping for better numbers.

^^
Makes sense. Europeans sure know how to live! ;D
I'm sure the U.S. opening weekend - which is a three-day holiday - will do much better than Europe. I don't know what the expectations were for Europe, though, so I don't know whether it's a bad sign or not. Certainly not a great sign, though.
I just want PoP to be a success and Reese eats her heart out. Oh yeah..
Come on, who gives a shit about that bitch.
We loved it - thanks for the free passes!
Let's hope for better numbers in the USA next weekend. :)

I don't think you can have that both ways - for Disney, no sequel=disappointment=no justice. But I think it's way too early to say PoP won't be successful - the numbers on the day after Memorial Day in U.S. will be a better guage.
OK, so what do you call comments like "No one knows where Jake and Austin are all the time. Vague statements about filming don't cut it." when people point out that Jake and Austin work a lot and simply can't be together while working in different cities?
I'd call those argumentative - but they're not personal insults. That's the difference.
Don't get me wrong I love the guy. I think he was talented but I regret his choice of movie all along his career. Those you qoted are great but kept him prisonner of one kind of role.
You might regret Harrison Ford's choices of roles - but I highly doubt he regrets them. A lot of actors would give their left nut to have the career he's had.

I think one of the reasons the relationship ended was because Reese wasnt taken any back seat to Jake during this time.

I think what happens after Memorial day is what is gonna count. PoP will make some money Memorial weekend but if the word of mouth is not good it will drop off the charts quicky.
AilsaTee: just saw prince of persia, surprisingly enjoyed it, nothing to do with staring at Jake Gyllenhall the entire time

So (besides the Dalai Lama) I also saw Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal, who were both about 3ft away from me walking up an aisle. Surreal.

You know, you're right about all of that. But I do think Disney must have a figure in mind - something they're shooting for - for the opening weekend. Of course, we'll never know what that number is or if they match it. But I'm sure they hope it will be No. 1 over the weekend and they'll probably get that.
Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal, who were both about 3ft away from me walking up an aisle.
Where was this, on an airplane? (And did it happen in 1925?!)
Ryan Gosling returns to LA
Ryan Gosling arrives back in Los Angeles via LAX airport after a flight back from the 2010 Cannes Film Festival on Saturday (May 22).
The 29-year-old actor promoted his new movie, Blue Valentine, which received high praise from critics alike. EW noted, “Nothing really could have prepared me for this utterly devastating, completely believable marriage drama. It’s been a while since I saw an on-screen couple as convincing as Gosling and [Michelle] Williams, and if there’s any justice, they’ll both earn their second Oscar nominations for their raw, arresting performances.”
I remember Ryan Gosling as Alan from Remember the Titans! Ngl he was a cutie; Alan definitely had a gayness about him.
God! ... and I told him to stop flirting...
Heath, I can do frisky puppy anytime you like.

lol, here's the entire post at OMG. I wonder if the Dalai Lama has an opinion on bearding. Aren't Buddhists all about truth and light?
Jake in NYC and seeing the Dalai Lama?

Awww those pics are great, love the first one. I think PoP is going to do fine in the US.
OT
Anybody here watched the last episode of Lost ?
Whether or not there is a BT, the way people are talking about work, relationships and children is so Leave it to Beaver, as someone said.
Half the actors in HW are married to other actors, and that is going to mean spending time apart while they work on different projects, unless you're Brangelina. It may not be ideal, but to say Austin and Jake wouldn't/couldn't do that when everyone else around them does and/or that is the reality of your profession, what are you going to do, not have children. As we know from all of Michael K.'s groaning, there must be something in the water because they're dropping babies like flies in HW.
However, that doesn't mean that hiding a child and bearding when you have one is acceptable. And the closet means it is probably not very likely one is visiting the other on the set, etc., which you would get with straight couples/openly gay couples.
Also, some talk as if the work, bearding, coffee runs, etc. take up Jake's every waking moments. Does anyone (other than babblers) think Jake had no private life during the Reeke years? Didn't everyone here say just the opposite?
Well, I didn't. Sorry.
LOL my comment was about watching Lost.
Maybe POP would have done better in the UK if Jake had kissed Jonathan Ross instead of gagging at the thought. ;)
Nah. He should have made out with us.
Btw when we said "he" we mean Jake.
I don't understand why all the debate about baby tile. Ted has said more than once there is a baby tile. There is no other candidate for Toothy but Jake.
POP did poorly due to warm weather? Please. What better place to go on a hot day than an air conditioned movie theater. Disney opened POP in Europe first as they expected it to do better there than the US so that does not bode well for BO results.
WDW has some more shots of the Disney radio interview including one of Jake staring at a twink cutie pie. He looks mesmerized.
Do areas like the UK who have hot weather maybe two weeks out of the year, even have air conditioned theaters? Idk. I do understand though that after a long winter and spring just beginning, why most Europeans would want to be outside instead of indoors.
Jake staring at a twink cutie pie
Okay probably a stupid question but who would be the bottom in that matchup? Aren't twinks usually bottoms?
From some of the things I've read (and I can't remember where or what specifically) I think a lot of twinks are tops. I remember being surprised about it too.
If POP fails, then Jake will become Mr.Flop
Proof,Zodiac,Rendition... Brother did well but is not like it was his second Brokeback Mountain. I wonder how many more oportunities he'll have before becoming a TV actor :(
unseasonably warm weather in Western Europe
^^Warm weather, not a heat wave that has people looking for sanctuary. "Unseasonably" as in take advantage of it while you can.
before becoming a TV actor :(
Well at least we would see him every week!
And I would have a regular feeding schedule! Not any of this jet lag time change crap!
Oh,no!
Jake is gonna be the next Ted Danson! :´´(
Go bald?!
I don't understand a shitfest like "300" being such a hit and PoP being a possible failure...
I still have hopes for the opening day in USA,though :)
....or the DVD sales,at least.
Funny how Jake and Reese posts almost immediately follow each other on JJ the past few weeks.
And this from the JJ copy about Reese is priceless:
The couple was then seen making a quick stop at the Brentwood park to visit her kids Ava and Deacon.
JJ
Mother of the Year!
My JJ posts are about my work.
Do Jake and Reese still have the same managers. If so they are making sure to keep the score even.
I've never heard any rules about twinks being only bottoms. Just young, hot and fresh. And cute. Can't forget that.
Okay probably a stupid question but who would be the bottom in that matchup? Aren't twinks usually bottoms?
Yes, but there is more than one thing they can do ;)

Yes. Even my relatively poor European country has modern cinema theaters, including 3D.

UK opening was LIMITED, wide release wil be next week.
PoP will be doing fine, WOM is good so far on twitter and facebook.
LAOD and "Source Code"
(already getting good buzz) are on the way and Jake has surely other projects in the pocket.
No need to worry!
Shame about the UK box office figures although competing with the best weather so far this year (and yes, although our cinemas are air conditioned, we get so little good weather we prefer to spend the time outside, mainly drinking) and the Champions League final on Saturday night (key demographic young men) can't have helped.
You can't help but feel for Jake, he's put alot (too much?) into POP success, ridiculous exercise and possible steroids, not to mention the nightmare that was Reeke. Its a high cost for something that may turn out to be just an 'also ran' in film terms.

How often does it have to be repeated?
UK Release was LIMITED!!
5:10 AM, that poster probably didn't have a chance to read your post and you are the frist one who mentioned limited UK release.
Good to know for the UK, the wild release in france is this week on wednesdey.
Wild release in France? ;)
Jake will be pleased!
UK Release was LIMITED!!
The numbers are still pretty disappointing. Robin Hood, for example, had limited release in UK last week (537 venues) and made 8.3 million. POP in 585 spots only made 2.1 million.
^^last weekend
I've had a few wild releases in France!
Slut.
