Dear Ted:
We get it, Jen Garner sucks. Onto more important things... Toothy Tile! Could you please run down the "And it's not..." list for me. After all this time, I am getting hazy on the Un-Toothy Tiles. My guess for T2... Matthew Broderick.
—Jen, Iowa

Dear Too Much Toothy:
Toothy's much sneakier than lame-ass Broderick. As for the list, check out the Internet. I do believe someone out there's been keeping track.

Dear Ted:
Is Toothy Tile Viggo Mortensen? You mentioned Lord of the Rings in one of your responses about a Toothy Tile guess.
—Cheryl

Dear Connection Failed:
Not the Lord of the Homo we're looking for dear, sorry. Think younger, less real-life brawny.

Dear Ted:
Love the new format—Monday mornings not so much, the yellow hurts my eyes. Toothy Tile has to be Matthew McConaughey. He has that "trying too hard" macho vibe. And the baby mama was a pragmatic career move.
—Groutless in Toronto

Dear Macho, Macho Matt:
Matt's more Hickville than Gayville, sorry. But at least he's not Toothy, I'll say that much.

Dear Ted:
Kindly please replace your word of retard to peabrain or D.D. (Delbert Dumbutt) or something that is decidedly less targeted to a group of people who already got the shaft in life; the mentally retarded. I love you, baby! I'm just defensive about the term since my son is high-functioning autistic. Now get a move on with some serious gossip. BTW, is Hillary Clinton Toothy Tile? Thought I'd have some fun today!
—Mckinn

Dear PC:
Noted, but don't go too Tropic Thunder on my ass and take it with a little bit of humor (I get your point, though), just as I am with your BV guess. It's good for the chuckles, but Hil ain't your man.

Dear Ted:
Does Toothy Tile know he's Toothy Tile in your Blind Vices? I've always heard that people in celebrity camps scroll blog sites (just to make sure they're getting talked about, of course). Just wondering if his people have figured out you're talking about him.
—Brg4Eyes

Dear Eavesdrop:
Toothy knows, alright. That's why he loves to do his out-me mamba all across T-town.

Dear Ted:
You mention that Colin Farrell has been in a "family twister" Blind Vice and that Toothy Tile is "less brawny in real life." You also have said that there is a Baby Tile, and Colin has a kid, does he not? Is he Toothy?
—AJ in Columbus

Dear Jigsaw Jumbler:
It sounds good on paper. But in reality, C.F. is as hetero and horny as they come.

Dear Ted:
Are the And It Ain't choices (1) always (2) sometimes or (3) never themselves the subjects of other Blind Vices?
—Barb

Dear Multiple Fess:
There is a golden ding showering you behind Door No. 2, darling!

Dear Ted:
As much as I wish Toothy Tile was in actuality Sarah Palin's husband, I have convinced myself it is Hugh Jackman. Yay or Nay?
—Katy

Dear Wishful Thinking:
Nay. Almost, but not quite.

Dear Ted:
Are Clay Aiken and his baby son Toothy's boyfriend Gray Goose and Baby Tile?
—Jane

Dear Too Obvious:
Toothy's lover isn't coming out anytime soon.

Dear Ted:
Now that Sophia Bush is single and working on One Tree Hill with three of her ex-boyfriends, Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty and Austin Nichols, do you think she will start dating one of them again? I hope she goes for Austin. I liked them together.
—Paula

Dear Ex Factor:
CMM is out, fer sure. He can maybe hope for some hate sex, but that's it. I think Bush should even the scoreboard and go for Benji Madden. Thoughts?

Dear Ted:
Could you tell us more about Toothy's boyfriend? He is half of the most intriguing and beautiful Hollywood gay closeted couple and the other daddy of Baby Tile. Don't you think he deserves more attention from you?
—April

Dear Man Hunt:
No, but his abs surely do.

Dear Ted:
I called in sick today and said I was deficient in my Vitamin T—OK, that was cheesy, but I think I deserve for this question to be printed since I risked my livelihood over it! Have you and Mr. Tile ever done the nasty (prehubby, of course!)? I reread some entries and you two sure seemed a little flirty a couple of years ago. And, who is hotter, Toothy or his BF? Is Mario Lopez his lover?
—Thrasher

Dear Bedroom Boinked:
In order: No. Yes. Neither, I like men, not little beautiful boys who still retain a tad of privileged baby fat. No.

Dear Ted:
Recently you said 1 in 10 people in Hollywood were straight. You must be including behind-the-scenes creative folks, agents, producers, etc. In terms of actors/actresses, what is the percentage that is straight?
—Cupcake in Cincinnati

Dear Left Brain:
One in 25. Make that 100.

Dear Ted:
OK, so Clay is gay. Big whoop...file that reveal under No Merde. Quick question, though…Has Clay ever been a subject of one of your Blind Vices? If yes, which one? And yes, I know he's not Toothy Tile.
—Jen

Dear Aching for Aiken:
Clay is far too dull for our sexy Vice archives.

Dear Ted:
The mags have been pushing the Reese-Jake romance for over a year now, but neither will confirm or deny the rumors. What’s the big secret?
—Mallory, Conn.

Yes, pictures. Pictures show the reality, not tabloid fiction.

Did you know that courts accept pictures as proof?

I see good and bad in most everything, however, I just can't see a reason to tear a person down so much.

Gylenhaal Family Drama!

Oh no!!!

Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal's parents are calling it quits, after decades and decades of marriage.

Bummer!

In Touch Weekly reports that the split between Naomi Foner and Stephen Gyllenhaal has the siblings crushed, as it seemed to come out of left field.

It is also strangely making the family closer. They are united under the bad news - not just in the current Gyllenhaal family, but the future Gyllenhaal family as well. Talk of marriage between Jake and Reese Witherspoon has been surrounding the couple and now with Jake's parents' split, wedding bells may be ringing sooner rather than later.

Haven't they been separated for two years now? How long were they married? That is sad when it's after a long marriage.

Anonymous said...

Probably, they just made it official. At least 30 years. It's sad, but splitting is much better than bad marriage.

Anonymous said...

I don't know why his parents splitting up would cause Jake to get married quicker. I would think it'd be the opposite.

It is sad, I hope it's possible for them to stay friends.

Another human being with thoughts and feelings just like you. If one does not like what they presume Jake is doing, why not just forget about him and move on?

"Tough love is an expression used when someone treats another person harshly or sternly with the intent to help them in the long run.

In most uses, there must be some actual love or feeling of affection behind the harsh or stern treatment to be defined as tough love. For example, genuinely concerned parents refusing to support their drug-addicted child financially until he or she enters drug rehabilitation would be said to be practicing tough love. A coach who trains his players hard and is strict, but likes his players could also be said to be practicing tough love."

" Perez Hilton is reporting that the new issue of In Touch Weekly is saying that Jake's parents have split up:"

Yet another reason not to return to the US. Jake's personal life is a royal mess. The only truly stabilizing, enjoyable thing in his day-to-day life is his work, and that is in Europe and Africa, not LA.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure Jake feels bad about this, but he moved out years ago and they will always be his loving parents.

Anonymous said...

""I don't know why his parents splitting up would cause Jake to get married quicker. I would think it'd be the opposite."

One answer to the above could be Jake needing to protect himself from his mother's emotional demands, I think he's done alot of caretaking in this family already, since father has history of being moody and depressed . . .

Reese would get his mama off his back. And since Reese and mama are friends, this would free Jake even more from emotional responsibliities -

If I could stand Reese one bit, I could even advocate this clever interim plan.

I sure hope our boy is getting some sweet man sex but I kinda think from his sorrowful countenance that he's not.

Why do you speculate that Jake needs "to protect himself from his mother's emotional demands"?!? WTF?

Didn't Cantara said something like that?

Anonymous said...

That "top" thing was a misreading of the phrase "who is he screwing." "Screwing" doesn't necessarily mean you're the insertive partner. You can use the same phrase for a woman - "who's she screwing"? But yeah, I'd guess versatile. Plus there's oral sex, beating off together etc. It's not all just top or bottom.

^ ^ ^

Why do I spectulate thusly? haha I work in a field where one sees this as a common response from children of divorcing parents. no criticism of mama. either parent, mama or papa, whose emotions are on the loose, can be a real pain in the ass for children of any age.

thus bearding with this particularly odd partner could serve more purpose than one. also this is someone for whom Jake obviously does not have very deep feelings.

sorry to have pushed yr hot buttons, 7:08. just sayin'

this can happen to any child of a parent going through a divorce or any loss. The motther usually will cling to one of the children. It's usually the oldest or more resposible one. No... Naomi supposedly caused problems for Jake and Austin at a charity luncheon. Would not let them sit together as it would draw attention. When the event was over, Jake took Austins hand and they left holding hands. It was witnessed by someone at WFT1 who wrote about it. Jake was very upset.

'I was born with six fingers on each hand' reveals Bond Girl Gemma Arterton in startling interview

New Bond girl Gemma Arterton may be many men's idea of the classic English rose but her path to becoming the beautiful actress she is today wasn't so easy.
The 22-year-old starlet, who plays Agent Fields in the upcoming Quantum Of Solace, admitted she was born with six fingers on each hand.
After undergoing an operation to have them removed, she still has bumpy scars as reminders of her extra digits.

The extra fingers were 'tied', which causes them to fall off naturally.

She tells Esquire magazine: 'It's my little oddity that I'm really proud of. It makes me different.'
Earlier this year, she revealed she was also born with a crumpled ear, which was corrected through surgery.

She said: 'I was born with lots of deformities.'

Kanye West: A-OK to Be Gay!

There's a reason MTV doesn't play music videos anymore—they're being played everywhere else. Britney's set to release her "Womanizer" vid on 20/20, which just shows ya that no so-called news outlet is too proud to shy away from the stuff that really sells: celebs.

Kanye West also stuck it to MTV by showing up on Ellen this morning to premiere his vid for "Love Lockdown." Strange place for a music debut, on daytime TV, but guess Kan has a thing for Mrs. de Rossi. "I wanted to say you have really great style," fawned Kanye to El-hon. Pointing to her dark blue sweater, he complimented, "I would completely wear this!" Lesbian chic, newest fashion trend, trust.

Gotta say, it's really refreshing to see a tough rapper so at home with the gay stuff, but is it real or an act, sorta like when Eminem did a duet with Elton John at the Grammys back in 2001? We think West actually means it, as opposed to Em just using it to score some brownie points with the angry gay crowds. Kan's got a lot of anger issues, but he's sure kinder to the homo demo than he is to the paparazzi.

Is this forward 'tude gonna lose the hipster-dressing K.W. some "street cred"? Like rappers aren't gay, please, but you get the point. Or does this rainbow effort of Kanye's ultimately make the dude more likeable in the long run, turning him into the rap community's only fagola icon à la Cher, Madonna or even Ellen?

Pretty sad if his über-success suffers any simply cause of his frequent associations with the homo boys 'n' girls. Could happen, especially when a person like Sarah Palin can make an entire career out of denouncing the same.

Morning Piss: Queen Latifah's So Gay?

Isn't if fabulous? Queen Latifah went and said something not exactly nice, which so gives us all a much needed break from other girls currently behaving badly, namely Sarah Palin.

Oh, love everybody's messages on our Palin items lately, by the by, particularly those who see the media's obsession with Palin as a virtual sign that the world's ending—economically, at least—and there's crap entertainment out there for us to escape with, thereby we're stuck with an antigay Alaskan candidate with dead forests and moose on her brain to pick up the slack. (Not sure I entirely agree, but I adore the points just the same.)

So, Queenie, of course, then bitches to the Times—New York, not Los Angeles—with this incredibly offensive nanogay speak, complete with dubious declaratives such as, "I don't have a problem discussing the topic of somebody being gay, but I do have a problem discussing my personal life," she bitched, culminating with the unfortunate yell, "I don't care if people think I'm gay or not, assume what you want."

It's all very defensive, as if she's being accused of something sinister, such as child endangerment of bad hair treatments. Why so angry, babe? You're unmarried, very butch, got lotsa full-time gal company and you're constantly in track suits with no makeup, get real. You should be laughing about it, telling us all what a compliment you consider this lesbian whispering to be but no comment's coming today, sorry!

Then who the ef am I to tell you what to do? You've got an Oscar nomination, and I've got permanent crank-butt. Just try and be a little less antigay next time, please, when you're so busy saying you aren't.

Lance Armstrong & Matthew McConaughey: We're Not Gay

Lance Armstrong and Matthew McConaughey are laughing off questions about their sexuality and rumors that they're anything more than just pals. "We tried it. Wasn't for us," McConaughey jokes to Details magazine in a new interview that addresses rumors about them – and pal Jake Gyllenhaal – being gay.

Armstrong says his newly-close relationship with McConaughey grew out of the fact that they were both suddenly single at the same time. McConaughey had broken up with actress Penelope Cruz and Armstrong had called off his engagement to singer Sheryl Crow. "Our friendship just kind of developed," the cycling champ tells the magazine for its November issue. "He got out of a relationship; I'd just gotten out of a relationship."

Armstrong, who has known McConaughey for eight years, stresses that despite the raised-eyebrows they've gotten due to photos of them – often shirtless – biking, running and partying together, they are just buddies. "I think people see pictures and they think we're these overgrown frat guys, but we all have those kinds of relationships – and relationship isn't a bad word," says Armstrong. "I mean, we all have buds, we all take guy trips, but you take something very normal and you put it in a magazine, and people start talking." He goes on to say, "It's like, either you sleep with anything that moves or you're gay. They can't figure it out."

McConaughey goes further to defend their relationship saying, "A lot of people don’t understand friendship and brotherhood. I have a great friend in him. I’d do anything he asked me to, even though he’d probably never ask me to, and he feels the same way. It’s fun going out and living life and doing things at the drop of a hat. LiveStrong just happens to be the most deliberate guy I’ve ever met."

Armstrong, 35, calls McConaughey, 36, the "Redneck Buddha," and says the actor's laid back style has been a good influence on him – especially when it comes to gossip. "His idea is like, 'Look, it is what it is, so go out there and have fun.' He’s truly carefree – which is to say, he truly doesn't care."

The seven time Tour de France winner also admits in the interview that he hasn't quite yet recovered from his split from Crow, especially the public's reaction. "We couldn't get it right, we couldn't get it wrong," he says. "Just a lot of back-and-forth. But we had a love for each other, and I think we still do."

Who You Callin' ... a Cyclist?

The latest issue of Details' Anthropology column, which every month asks if their model represents either a particular occupation (cowboy, oil heir, talk show diva's husband, etc...) or a gay man, has chosen "cyclist" as their September topic du jour. And we can't imagine why.

While the column normally only features one model, this time it includes two hunky menz barely dressed in spandex, shades and sweat.

One of the boys dons a short-sleeved jersey -- "Because tank tops are so gay" -- while the other appears bare-chested in all his manscaped glory.

Now, we here at TMZ love any excuse to showcase a fine human specimen (male or female), but we can't imagine why two sweaty grown men who spend a lot of time together working out in tight spandex would ever be considered gay.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Gay Actor Commits Suicide In South Korea

Police are blaming homophobia for the death of South Korean actor Kim Ji-hoo.

Songpa Police Station confirmed the 23-year-old hung himself at his home in Jamsil, southern Seoul, Monday. Police said they found a suicide note at the scene, saying, "I'm lonely and in a difficult situation. Please cremate my body."

Kim's death is the latest in a series of suicides. Transsexual entertainer Jang Chae-won hung herself in the bathroom of her home on Friday, following the deaths of actor Ahn Jae-hwan and actress Choi Jin-sil.

Police said his suicide reflects public prejudice toward gay people and their difficulty in succeeding in the entertainment industry.

Following the announcement of his sexual orientation, Kim's management agency did not renew his contract and many TV programs and fashion shows canceled his appearances. His blog was bombarded with numerous messages denouncing his sexual orientation.

Kim's mother also pointed to his personal and professional difficulties.

I Don't Understand

Queen Latifah, who I again have to say I adore, kind of screws up what I think she wanted to say. Or at least I think she screwed it up or maybe she is playing with our minds. I know, I am confused though. In an interview with New York Times Magazine, Queen was asked about all the gay rumors that surround her. She said she doesn't care what people say about her because people are going to assume whatever they want to anyway. I like that kind of attitude because it just means someone like me can write pretty much anything and she isn't going to do jack about it.

I, of course would never be mean, but I don't understand this quote, so maybe you can all take a crack at it. "I don't have a problem discussing the topic of somebody being gay, but I do have a problem discussing my personal life."

So, if I am reading this right, which is highly doubtful, because in case I haven't told you before, I drink too much and sometimes the words kind of all fuzz together, she basically is willing to gossip about everyone in the world and guess whether they are gay or not. She just isn't willing to play the same game with herself. Well that seems kind of unfair. If you are willing to discuss whether another person is gay or not, you should also be willing to discuss whether you are gay or not. I don't really care if she is or isn't, I just find it a little hypocritical that she is perfectly willing to speculate and assume about others but is not willing to participate in the same topic of conversation once the subject person is her.

Shouldn't she just say, some things are better left private and I wouldn't do it to others, because I wouldn't do it to myself. Not that she is doing herself because that takes us into a whole other realm of blogging that I really don't want to do. I mean I guess I could, but I think Holly Madison is going to need some kind of career now that she dumped Hef and so I thought I would leave her something to do.

Clay Aiken Says, 'Nothing Has Changed'

Two weeks after Clay Aiken announced he is an openly gay man, the Spamalot Broadway actor has taken to the Web to explain his coming-out decision to his fans.

"I would have preferred to separate my personal life from my professional life," Aiken, 29, writes on his clayonline.com. "But, living as myself without discussing my sexuality publicly would have been as impossible."

Writing on various message boards, many Aiken fans expressed feelings of betrayal by the American Idol alum. Aiken has no regrets about the way he handled his personal life over the past five years, saying he has "the same liberties and rights that every single gay man and woman in the world should have … the right to determine for myself when I was ready to discuss my personal life."

No Apologies
Discussing himself in a 2003 Rolling Stone interview, Aiken opined that male celebrities are either considered womanizers or gay. "Since I'm neither one of those, people are completely concerned about me," he said.

He says he will not apologize for the response, saying, "When this guy started asking me about things that I didn't really know how to answer for myself, things that I was not yet ready to admit to folks like my mother and my family, things that I found intimidating and invasive, I responded in what I assumed was a benign way at the time."

In conclusion Aiken blogs, "I am not defined by my sexuality. It is, simply, a small facet of the same person I have always been. Nothing has changed."

Sad things

Suicide In Korea Reminds Us of How (Relatively) Good Gays Have It In Hollywood

A 23-year-old Korean actor hanged himself in his Seoul home on Monday, in part because of homophobia, police suspect. Kim Ji-hoo recently came out publicly, and saw many of his scheduled appearances on television shows and at various events suddenly canceled, in addition to receiving numerous hateful messages on his website. This sad news comes right after the apparent suicide of transsexual entertainer Jang Chae-won on Friday. All of which, you know, gives one pause.

Sure there is still homophobia in the American entertainment industry (and, you know, as it presents nationally recognized symbols, Hollywood as big shiny fake microcosm of the rest of the world and all that), and some talented people are forced—or at least feel forced—to keep their sexuality private lest they lose out on work. (The alleged supergays: Tom Cruise, Ryan Seacrest, John Travolta, etc.) But, compared to other parts of the "first world," the situation here is pretty superior (I mean, it's not Europe, but it'll do. For now). We have queer-friendly science fiction! And kinda shitty but still, they're there! networks like Logo and here! and Ugly Betty on ABC, and, um, all of Bravo. Plus, this whole phenomenon exists! And in movies gay characters are slowly crawling out of the gay best friend ghetto and movies like Brokeback Mountain yeah get snowed in the end at the Oscars, but they have big, important presences. Obviously we've still miles to go before we sleep—like, um, where has gay Erik van der Woodsen been on Gossip Girl?—but I just thought I'd take this opportunity to give a little appreciation to a flawed but progressing community of self-obsessed millionaires. Thanks for furtively tolerating the gays, because this thing in Korea is really really sad.

Two weeks after Clay Aiken announced he is an openly gay man, the Spamalot Broadway actor has taken to the Web to explain his coming-out decision to his fans.

A Few Words From Clay Aiken

Killing the elephants in the room

...
I would have preferred to separate my personal life from my professional life. I would have been just as happy to go on without discussing my orientation. But, it seems like that was not an option. Make no mistake, its not because I am ashamed. No, not for a minute. I haven't always been as comfortable as I am now, but I am without a doubt, proud of who I am and make no apologies for it. Instead, I would have been happy to have kept my personal life private for that very reason. Because it's personal life and I have always considered myself a private person. But, living as myself without discussing my sexuality publicly would have been as impossible. One chance to expose the truth would have been a payday for any greedy opportunist.
...
The truth is, I don't apologize for the responses I gave to that reporter or any reporter over the past five years. I did make every attempt I could after that one interview to never say "I am not gay" or "I am straight". And I never said either. (some interpreted my vague answers to mean that… but I never said either) Some will say thats misleading. In truth, it might be defined that way. But, a better definition and a more accurate way to describe it for me, is a redirection and an attempt to change the topic to something that matters more. For some of you it won't be enough, but I can't apologize for keeping my personal business to myself. If someone feels that they were mislead, I can totally understand that viewpoint and apologize for that feeling, but I can't apologize for how I handled questions that affected me and my right to privacy.

In my opinion, sexual orientation is ALWAYS a private thing. I think the OVERWHELMING majority of people agree with that. Why in the world should someone's sexual orientation be a news item? Why should anyone care? Yet, for all we espouse as a society about tolerance and open mindedness we forget to allow folks the opportunity to be who they are without judgement. Making a decision to come out to family is a difficult and heavy decision. But, for every young man or woman who is struggling with it, it should be a decision that is made on his or her own schedule ONLY. It's never acceptable for anyone to make such a decision for anyone else nor to coerce someone to take such a significant step before they are ready. Not a friend, not a stranger, not the media. So, I waited until the time was right for me. For that I can't apologize either.

There are plenty of you who have anticipated this blog in hopes that I would "set the record straight" or "admit to lying for five years and apologize for it". For that small group of people, I am afraid I will have to disappoint you. My decisions over the past five years have been made with lots of deliberation and at times even heartache. Always with concern for folks who might feel mislead. Don't doubt that. But they have also been made as an attempt, not to hide my true self, but instead to allow myself the same liberties and rights that every single gay man and woman in the world should have… the right to determine for myself when I was ready to discuss my personal life. In as much as that, at times, was interpreted as misrepresentation, I feel badly. But I reserved that right for myself and I can't say I regret it.
...

Finally, I will say that, also representative of most every other gay man and woman in the world, that I am not defined by my sexuality. No more so than each of you are defined by your sexual orientation. No more than a man or woman is defined by race or ethnicity. It is, simply, a small facet of the same person I have always been. Most of you realize that nothing has changed. I hope to continue being able to entertain you in the same way I have for the past five years. And I hope you will allow me to continue to inform you of the causes that I find important and entertain you with the music and performances I love. For I love and cherish you all. Yesterday, now and forever.

Nice comments from Gawker.

Too bad reality is not so nice:

"I agree with your cautious and understated acknowledgment re: how 'good' 'we' have it here in North America.

But there's no celebrating to be done when gays & lesbians get killed in the streets (including North America) every day, and when GLBT teens off themselves daily in the dozens. I had to stop digging through stats because it was too depressing: the second-highest killer of GLBT teens between 15-24 is suicide."

LGBT teens are between 30 and 40 percent more likely to attempt suicide than their straight peers, 365 Gay reports. Despite increased acceptance of LGBT people in today's pop culture, LGBT teens still suffer from bullying and abuse from peers, especially in middle school. With technology, the abuse goes beyond the classroom and into the realm of text messaging and social-networking sites, where comments are visible and can be brutal. So when an LGBT teen feels suicide is their only option, it can almost be said that they were bullied to death.

"10 Things" revolves around two sisters -- a strong-willed feminist and a social butterfly -- facing the challenges of starting out in a new high school. The 1999 film, inspired by Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew," was directed by Gil Junger, who will shoot the pilot.

Polls flip: Gays about to lose marriage in California

My friend Rex Wockner is on the story, and it isn't looking good. The Christian fundamentalist bigots, in tandem with the Mormon church interlopers, have raised ten million dollars more than our side in their effort to repeal the marriages of gay couples in California. A few months ago the bigots were losing their effort to pass Prop 8, which would repeal the marriages of thousands of gay couples and ban everyone else from getting married. Now they're winning.

I'm hearing from people in the know that this is ours to lose. We will win, I am told, if people step up to the plate and donate. The thing is, where are our rich donors? Some have only given a paltry amount, considering their largesse, others have made their donations contingent matching grants. We don't have time for these matching-grant shenanigans. If marriages are revoked, repealed, in California, it won't just overturn the lives of thousands of Californians, it sets a very dangerous precedent nationwide.

Prop 8

Marriage Equality? Money Talks, And Politicians Ought To

As many of you probably already know, Californians will take to the polls this year not just to decide to whom their electoral college votes will go or whether to remove the first female Speaker of the House in favor of gadfly and spotlight-addict Cindy Sheehan. They'll also be deciding on the fate of same-sex marriage. Opponents of the state Supreme Court decision allowing homosexual couples marriage equity have on the ballot a measure, Proposition 8, that would amend California's constitution and re-illegalize same-sex marriage.

As one might imagine, anti-marriage equity organizations, such at the Mormon church, are blanketing the state with money and advertisements to make sure the Dreaded Gays can be denied their equal rights once again as their bigoted vision of God supposedly intended. And, if you thought money spoke louder than social justice in D.C., well, you ain't seen the latest poll numbers on Prop 8 yet — because that anti's money is screaming really fucking loudly.

Two polls in the last week — one by Lake Research and one by Survey USA — show Prop 8 winning (and equal rights losing) 47 to 43 and 47 to 42, respectively. The No on Prop 8 spokespeople believe that the unexpected results have something to do with the complacency of those who would be expected to support equality and a barrage of television ads against the measure that seem to be swaying younger voters. Although they expect the pro-discrimination groups to spend up to $26 million on television advertisements in order to foist their religious beliefs onto the populace, groups like No On Prop 8 expect to match them on advertising money and think that at least 20 percent of the electorate is either undecided or keeps changing its mind. So, a little good news on a bad news day, I guess.

On the surface, it seems so strange that a state in which the latest polls have Obama up by 16 points would be moving so quickly in the direction of inequality and intolerance. But, then, it's probably important to remember that neither Barack Obama or Joe Biden actually supports marriage equity. In fact, scroll through the issues on their site and you'll see no mention of same sex marriage rights in the sections on Civil Rights, Faith or Family. I've recently said that I think the Democratic Party should stop pandering to the forces of intolerance on this issue, but let me go one step further. Barack Obama, Joe Biden and the Democratic establishment are signing off on Democrats voting for Prop 8 by pandering to the voters who they think will vote against them if they support ending discrimination against homosexuals. If Democrats flock to the polls for Barack Obama because they are inspired for him — and, if the primaries were any indication, they will — they could be inspired to vote against Prop 8 and against ending the extension of civil rights to same sex couples. Marriage in this country, as in every country, is a legal institution more than it is a religious one — try telling me more people aren't legally married than are married in the eyes of a religious order, especially given that the Catholic Church doesn't recognize the second marriages of divorcees — and it confers upon those that enter into the marriage contract certain rights and certain responsibilities under the eyes of the law. It's a government-sanctioned, government-recognized contract.

In last night's debates, Barack Obama called out George Bush for squandering an opportunity after 9/11 to call the American people to service and sacrifice by instead calling on them to shop. Barack Obama is asking us to put him in that same position after November 5th. I'm just hoping that he doesn't squander it either, not on this issue.

T.R. Knight Answers No on 8's Plea for Money With $50,000

Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight has donated $50,000 to No on 8 to fight the proposed California constitutional amendment, Proposition 8, that would outlaw same-sex marriage in the state, Out.com’s Popnography blog reported Wednesday. The donation comes one day after Equality California called for an emergency LGBT media briefing and reported that contrary to published reports, Yes on 8 is ahead in the polls.

The donation was uncovered on the California secretary of state’s website, reporting that Knight, a self-employed actor with a New York address, had donated.

Knight’s donation comes after Ohio entrepreneur Jonathan Lewis issued a challenge of sorts to Los Angeles's entertainment industry -- raise $500,000 for No on Prop. 8, and he and his family will match the contributions dollar for dollar.

Other celebrities who have made donations since Lewis's offer to match funds include Pete Wentz and Fall Out Boy to the tune of $50,000; Angels in America scribe Tony Kushner, $15,000; and E! talk-show host Chelsea Handler, $5,000.

Will Prop 8 divorce them?

What will happen if Proposition 8 passes?
If Proposition 8 passes, it would put into the California Constitution a clause that only allows marriage between a man and a woman.

If we get married before November 4, 2008, and Proposition 8 is passed, what would happen to our marriage?
Because your marriage will have been valid at the time it was entered, most likely you would remain legally married after November 4, 2008, regardless of whether the initiative passes. Initiatives usually are not retroactive, and this initiative does not say that it would be.

If the initiative passes, there will likely be people or organizations who will try to argue that your marriage is no longer valid and that you were divorced against your will as of November 4. It is hard to predict with certainty what courts would decide because this situation is unprecedented.

Still slightly irritated about Queen Latifah pooh-poohing about her privacy. If you’re not swinging in the lady-lovin’ direction, Q, what’s your hang-up? If you were running around town with some male amigos on your arm, we’d still inquire if something was up, romantically speaking. However, you can’t ask to be gabbed about, written up and adored, and—clang!—have the public-interest door to what’s up with you, love-wise, shut like some sort of rusty chastity belt the sec you scream hands-off.

Gay snog on "Eastenders" threatens to destroy UK!

Gee, it's comforting to know that the U.S. isn't alone when it comes to mass hysteria and overreaction. On Tuesday's episode of the long-running UK soap opera Eastenders, the characters of Christian and Lee shared a medium-hot kiss, putting some viewers' knickers in a twist. (The Daily Mail also ran a similar story.)

Apparently, the kiss happened before the 9 p.m. "watershed", which, from the jist of the comments, is when the television becomes filled with indecent, filthy acts like ... gay snogging. Some choice excerpts from letters sent to the BBC in complaint:

"This is disgraceful whilst young children are watching and sets the wrong example."
"I am appalled by the display of homosexual kissing before the watershed shown on EastEnders."

And my favorite...

"I had to explain to my seven-year-old son what was happening. He now thinks he is gay because he kisses his dad.”

Well, that's what you get for having children. I'm a bit confused, though ... Hollyoaks has gone much further in terms of showing gay affection, and it's a daytime show, so why aren't there riots in the streets about that?

T.R. Knight Becomes First Actually Gay Star To Donate To 'No On 8'

It's often said that gays are on the cutting edge of most trends, but when it comes to defeating California's Proposition 8 (which would thwart the same-sex marriage laws enacted this summer), most out celebrities have fallen pitifully behind their straight allies. The first high-wattage Hollywood name to donate to the "No on 8" name was Brad Pitt, whose $100,000 donation was quickly matched by Steven Spielberg. Now, after straight B and C-listers including Pete Wentz and Chelsea Handler gave money to fill the gay gap, The Advocate brings word that Grey's Anatomy power-gay T.R. Knight has finally become the first high-profile out star to contribute to the cause. So who's still missing?

Perhaps the most notable M.I.A. gay is Ellen DeGeneres, who has sounded off about Prop 8 on the talk show circuit, but has yet to donate to the cause (though she did find time to host a fundraiser for the animal rights-advocating Prop 2). Other gay mafiosos like Portia DeRossi, Rosie O'Donnell, and Elton John are still nowhere to be found on the donations list, while behind-the-scenes gay talents like Gus Van Sant and Bryan Singer are missing, too (for that matter, straight allies like Jay Leno and Julia Louis-Dreyfus have advocated against the proposition but have yet to put their money where their mouths are).

Their inaction comes after Tuesday's announcement that contrary to earlier reports, Proposition 8 is ahead in the polls and likely to pass next month, dealing a massive blow to the gay marriage cause. Backed by religious forces, the "Yes on 8" financial war chest has far exceeded that of the organizations working to defeat the proposition.

Ohio entrepreneur Jonathan Lewis has challenged Hollywood power players to donate, promising that he and his family will match the contributions dollar for dollar — though the only notable gay figure to donate since was Angels in America playwright Tony Kushner, who gave $15,000. Hey, Ellen? Pretend it's adorable puppies who can't get married. Got a dime to spare?

Neil Sean: Reese Witherspoon Thinks Her Man Is Unsupportive

LONDON — Not one to gossip, but are Reese Witherspoon and man-child boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal having problems?

I sat near the couple at a coffee bar on London's Marylebone High Street, and let's just say that Jake was getting a right-ear bashing for “not supporting me on this.“

Quite what it was I never found out, but they left without speaking to each other. ...

Zac Efron is a doll, from his clear mascara through to his perfectly tinted hair. The "High School Musical" star told me lots of gossip at the premiere of the third installment of the movie (great by the way, such fun and almost worth going back to school for).

Maybe he just broke to her he won't be her date for the 4 Christmases premiere?
Poor Reesey, must she go all by her little self?

"Its all highly amusing. Now we have someone saying they just happened to overhear a conversation at a Marylebone coffee shop.. does this have anything to do with the entry in Heat (UK) magazine this week where someone saw a 'loved up Jake and Reese' at the same spot."

Anonymous said...

I hope Jake's totally unsupportive, but that guy probably made it up. Just more Reeke bullshit.

Anonymous said...

Why do you hope he is unsupportive?

Anonymous said...

Because the contract might be terminated sooner.

Oh.

Why oh? :)

Good point... does anybody know the best place to contribute? What can we do???

Too bad we don't have anything on Jake ... we could blackmail him into donating!

Anonymous said...

"Why oh? :)"

I just didn't get what you mean, after you answered it was clear.

Anonymous said...

That sighting was bs, a pr plant to make them sound interesting and spin the London angle.

Anonymous said...

And, of course, Jake is the "bad guy".

Anonymous said...

What in the fuck is up with all those gay rich people. ... Are they afraid of upsetting their straight business partners and interests???

Could be.

Anonymous said...

Very interesting about the Fox News sighting.I wonder if that was from two weekends ago when Reese supposedly flew in to see Jake for the weekend (i.e. the tabloid accounts).

About the problems, I'll just say... where there's smoke, there's fire...

Anonymous said...

Neil Sean would not make something like that up. He isn't a fly by night blogger, if he did want to publish fiction he would have said that a source told him about the sighting not that he saw it himself.

Anonymous said...

Of course he would, he's writing gossip.

Anonymous said...

If true, it sounds like a legit relationship, real couple have spats like that all the time. It's different then the usual holding hands, loving sights, this sounds real and I can imagine Reese chewing of his ear as he just sits there passively.

There was a sighting of them in Heat magazine eariler this weekof them sucking face, same area.

When did this all take place? In September or is she in London now?

The smoke and fire is: They are legit IMO.

Anonymous said...

Of course he would make something like that up, he's writing gossip. What are the odds for him to be in the same coffee shop?

Anonymous said...

Neal can say anything, it's not like their PR is going to complain, makes them sound interesting, LOL!!

Anonymous said...

Don't be silly 7:52 PM.

Reeke is trying to look legit last 11 months. And failing for 11 months.

Anonymous said...

That blurb makes them look legit!

I remeber before Scarlette Johansen and Ryan Reynolds got engaged/married there were all kinds of chatter about them and one major fight while he was filming and they were arguing in the middle of the street and he walked away from her and she ran after him and he ignored her, LOL!!!

Not the same situation but i remember at the time thinking that
s the most interesting thing I heard about them.

And you are the one being silly if you don't smell the stench of a PR plant.

Anonymous said...

I agree, PR plant makes most sense.

Anonymous said...

The cuddling and lovey dovey must have taken place before she caught him doing he nasty with another guy.

Anonymous said...

oh what babblers will believe

Anonymous said...

Maybe, "not being supportive" meant he was not willing to do another photo op!!

Reeke legit?? hahhaha!

Anonymous said...

"Too bad we don't have anything on Jake ... we could blackmail him into donating!"

He should be fucking donating anyway.

THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR GAY-FRIENDLINESS, JAKE.

Good point about supportive. What possible issue could she need his support on except a business matter, i.e the bearding. Certainly not that she does not want to do promo with Vince on her dreck movie. How could Jake influence that.

Maggie Gyllenhaal Joins Brecht/Kushner Reading Oct. 13

Maggie Gyllenhaal has joined Monday's night staged reading of Bertolt Brecht's The Good Person of Sezuan, adapted by Tony Kushner and directed by Tony Speciale, as part of Classic Stage Company's, popular First Look Festival - a program of one-night only staged readings, performed by notable actors. This season, the CSC's First Look Festival is focusing on the works of Brecht, perhaps one of the most influential playwrights of the 20th Century. Brecht's plays redefined the very nature of theatrical presentation to address the most pressing concerns of his tumultuous generation. Joining Gyllenhaal in the reading are Jeremy Strong, Jayne Houdyshell, Jason Butler Harner, Ben Shenkman, Ryder Smith, Mary Shultz, Roberta Maxwell and Judith Roberts. Next week's First Look Festival reading, on Monday, October 20 at 8 pm is Life of Galileo, featuring Tony Award winner Richard Easton, and directed by Brian Kulick.

James Franco Is Perfect, Gushes Robot

Or computer program or whatever. Not like we need anyone to tell us, really, but actor James Franco has the most perfect face in the world. So says science, at least. A new computer program uses mathematical formulas to take one photo (left) and turn it into a more traditionally aesthetically pleasing face (right). And, um, Franco's face pretty much stayed exactly the same when the New York Times conducted the experiment. So good for him. Getting his MFA, has movie star riches, and is, as proven by science, perfect looking. Now if he could just get rid of those pesky rumors... (Oh, and if you put this dude's picture in the machine, it explodes). [via Cityfile, image via NYT]

My favorite part is the description of Jake as a man-child. Every story about them makes him look like a needy wimpering little boy. Just the type of man to bring into your life to help you raise 2 children... what a joke!

A Look at the Script and Production Design for Milk

Script-reviewer blog Playbill makes its review of the screenplay for Milk and concludes:

"Milk the script, might not necessarily have the audacious or dazzling notes we're prone to enjoy, but it has that sort of classic Presidential reserve and grace that Oscar seems to love (there's one incredibly vivid scene however that's supposed to be an artful voting montage that feels like it was written specfically for Van Sant's artsy proclivities). If Van Sant keeps the cinematics to a 'Goodwill Hunting'-like minimum he could find himself with another Best Director nomination come February."

Here also is a look at Milk's production design, from Film in Focus ...

If you haven't guessed, its a heavy pro queer story and it makes no bones about it, but there's a lot less explicit sex than we were led to believe which will make marginally less hateable for those movie goers in the Mid West who probably won't touch this thing with a twenty-foot pole (surely the gayness is toned down in the trailer cause this film won't play in the red states where gay marriage is viewed as an anathema).
...
Ultimately, "Milk" is about the life and times of Harvey Milk — his sacrifice for change — but it's also about salvation through belief (for the once heavy-closeted mayoral supervisor) and hope for the future of tolerance.

I was just looking at those photos of Jake from Pinewood studios. Are his teeth capped? He looks ugly and different.

Anonymous said...

He looks ugly and different

His pudgy face is a sign of steroid use.

Anonymous said...

Jake looked much better next evening (restaurant pics), not so different.

Anonymous said...

I think the pudgy face was due to the big chunks of apple he was eating. He looks very UN-steroidal in those pics IMO. Cheekbones noticable, lower torso thinner.

Jake's PoP hair kind of reminds me of this:

Greg's Review of "Breakfast With Scot"

Breakfast With Scot" opens in theaters today after enjoying a successful film festival run. I first saw it back in Palm Springs back in January, long before Sarah Palin and all this hockey mom business started. You could say, I guess, that this is a movie about two hockey dad. But it's so much more.

Here is an encore run of my review of this wonderful film:

There are many movies on my agenda this weekend during the final days of the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Last night, I got into town just in time to see "Breakfast With Scot' which stars Ben Shenkman and my bigtime crush Tom Cavanaugh whose big blue eyes and sexy lips are made for the big screen.

They play a couple whose lives are turned upside down when Shenkman's nephew comes to live with them. The kid makes Justin on "Ugly Betty" seem butch. And that's the point of the film. Cavanaugh's character is a closeted former NHL star-turned sportscaster whose internalized homophobia leads to him trying to make the boy (perfectly played by Noah Bennett) into a hockey player instead of a jewelry and make-up wearing kid who favors colorful boas and singing Christmas songs in October.

This is a comedy and a good one. But it also has so much heart and it does such a wonderful job of addressing this whole issue of what to do with a sissy kid. Do you encourage the kid's true nature or try and make a man out of him? Cavanaugh's Sam thinks he's doing what's best but learns a lot of lessons - mostly about himself along the way.

Director Laurie Lynd appeared after the screening and told us that the film has had difficulty finding a distributor and is likely to go straight to DVD. I just hope it will be seen. How is so much absolute garbage distributed and a gem like this not is just a big mystery to me. It even had the blessing of the National Hockey League's Maple Leaves who allowed their team name etc. to be used in the movie.

Lynd said the film absolutely could not have worked without the performance of Bennett who beat out hundreds of kids for the role of the nephew. He is the heart of the film and the scenes he shares with Cavanaugh are enough to make a grown man cry.

Keep your eyes open for "Breakfast With Scot."

He does look thinner, which will be more believable for his PoP parkour stunts I think. I hope he hasn't used steroids, and his teeth have always been beautiful and natural, just the way they are. He doesn't need to change a thing of his beautiful self.

The plot:

Eric (Tom Cavanagh) lives for all things hockey. Now in his thirties, he's managed to turn his stint as an ex-professional hockey player with the Toronto Maple Leaf into a full-time gig as commentator for sports TV. He's living the dream! But when Eric's boyfriend, Sam (Ben Shenkman), announces they're to become temporary guardians of a young boy, Scot (Noah Bernett). Eric's comfortable world shatters. Freaked out by Scot's 'joie de vivre,' Eric and Sam gently nudge Scot away from scented hand cream and all things pink, towards a more 'acceptable' pastime - hockey. But after Scot's disastrous first hockey game, Eric begins to rethink the compromises he's made in his own life in order to be 'accepted.'

I can't bear any pictures of Jake on PoP set or Cipriani - all of them unflattering. . . and looking at earlier pictures just makes me sad. he looks so empty. but that's been for a while.

Gay marriage

Heart in Hartford: Connecticut Supreme Court rules for same-sex marriage

Huge news in the land of Martha Stewart: The Connecticut Supreme Court just handed down a ruling that denying same-sex couples the right to marry is "unconstitutional". This makes Connecticut the third state in the country to allow same-sex marriage (following Massachusetts and California, whose rights are under fire from Proposition 8) and gives gay New Yorkers (whose marriages will be recognized if they take place in states where gay marriage is legal) a much-abbreviated drive to wedded bliss.

Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell released a statement disagreeing with the ruling but stating her intention to honor it:

"The Supreme Court has spoken," Rell said. "I do not believe their voice reflects the majority of the people of Connecticut. However, I am also firmly convinced that attempts to reverse this decision -- either legislatively or by amending the state Constitution -- will not meet with success. I will therefore abide by the ruling."

While she's not exactly throwing rice, the acknowledgment that gay marriage is ultimately a reality not worth fighting is worth noting. Times are changing, people. Let's make sure they keep changing.

Sigourney Weaver "Incensed" By Sarah Palin

Sigourney Weaver is not a fan of VP candidate Sarah Palin. Speaking to TV Guide about her upcoming guest spot on Eli Stone, on which she'll play a therapist, Weaver said, "I actually have a therapist. She's very smart and we try not to talk about politics because we're both incensed about Sarah Palin."

Earlier this week at an event Sigourney Weaver told the press, "I don't feel she represents me in any way. She's in a skirt, that's about it."

Eli Stone with Weaver debuts Tuesday, October 14th at 10pm.
