when i found out that jamey rodemeyer killed himself - i felt deeply troubled. but when i found out that jamey rodemeyer had made an it gets better video only months before taking his own life - i felt indescribable despair. i also made an it gets better video last year - in the wake of the senseless and tragic gay teen suicides that were sweeping the nation at the time. but in light of jamey's death - it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it - is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality. our society needs to recognize the unstoppable momentum toward unequivocal civil equality for every gay lesbian bisexual and transgendered citizen of this country. gay kids need to stop killing themselves because they are made to feel worthless by cruel and relentless bullying. parents need to teach their children principles of respect and acceptance. we are witnessing an enormous shift of collective consciousness throughout the world. we are at the precipice of great transformation within our culture and government. i believe in the power of intention to change the landscape of our society - and it is my intention to live an authentic life of compassion and integrity and action. jamey rodemeyer's life changed mine. and while his death only makes me wish that i had done this sooner - i am eternally grateful to him for being the catalyst for change within me. now i can only hope to serve as the same catalyst for even one other person in this world. that - i believe - is all that we can ask of ourselves and of each other.

It's been more than a year since the first Edible Schoolyard meal at the fashion designer Lela Rose's TriBeCa apartment. And, since we weren't able to make that one, it's been more than a year that we've been looking forward to seeing Ms. Rose's dining-room table. This isn't some ordinary dinner table. It rather famously, at least in Edible Schoolyard circles, comes up from the floor in parts and drops from the ceiling.
I like to entertain and my husband does not like to help move furniture around," Ms. Rose said, in anticipation of the big table assemblage at Wednesday's Fall Harvest Dinner. "So our architects helped us figure this out."
In homage, John Lyons, the former president of Focus Features who serves on the board of Alice Waters's Chez Panisse Foundation (which oversees Edible Schoolyard) said he was toying with the idea of hiring a set designer to redo his apartment. That way, he joked, "all of the furniture can fly in from the ceiling."
"No way, it does not do that," said the actor Jake Gyllenhaal of Ms. Rose's dinner table. Mr. Gyllenhaal, who recently appeared in the film "Source Code," is an ambassador for the Edible Schoolyard, a nationwide project that creates and sustains organic gardens at schools. Mr. Gyllenhaal said he got involved partly because, growing up in Los Angeles, family dinners around the table were especially important to him. That, and shopping at the Farmers Market.
"I love going to these schools and making kale pizza with the kids," said Mr. Gyllenhaal. No doubt, the kids enjoy making pizza with the "Prince of Persia," too. "Yes, they like making pizza with the Prince of Persia."
Various chefs have cooked for the New York patrons of the Edible Schoolyard. This season, it was Gabrielle Hamilton's turn. Her restaurant is Prune, in the East Village, a favorite of Mr. Gyllenhaal's, and she is the author of "Blood, Bones & Butter." For dinner on Wednesday—a thousand bucks a head—she made radishes dipped in butter, which she compared to candy apples, Spanish mackerel poached in kalamata olive oil and braised duck legs with lentils, black chickpeas and chanterelles.
"We assumed that everyone would be an eater and we didn't have to consider any of the 'isms,'" said Ms. Hamilton. "And we wanted to be nice to the wine and not put tons of acid and garlic in the food." As for her involvement in the Edible Schoolyard, "even my own kids don't eat vegetables," she said.
Conversation with Ms. Hamilton and Mr. Gyllenhaal went on, and of course, when we turned around, the table had already been put together. We crossed our fingers that Ms. Rose could press a button and start the show again, but it was time for dinner and she said we could come over for breakfast one day instead.

Last night, designer Lela Rose hosted a swanky $1000-a-seat dinner party at her gorge Tribeca mecca to support Edible Schoolyard, which encourages kids to eat healthier and change their food habits. The most perfect man alive (the aforementioned JG) was a special guest, and we grabbed him for a quick chat pre-dinner to discuss veggies, farmers and besties.

[Chic sighs....catches breath] Tell us about your involvement with the Edible Schoolyard.
I've been involved with them for a couple of years. I'm titled by Alice Waters, the ambassador of the school yard. I got involved because the dinner table was always a place, since I was a young child, where we got to get together, and I actually got to know my family there more than any other place in the world. I grew up growing my own food in our family garden. One of my best friends is a farmer. It's been a primary focus of my life.
We love food!
I didn't realize that I grew up in the slow food movement. I see children who didn't know any of these things—that they can grow their own food and learn about vegetables when they are at a primary level. It was everything to me, so I wanted to be involved. Since knowing about this organization, I've done everything I can.
What's your favorite vegetable?
I'd say right now, after an extensive search over the years and living the wonderful life that I've had so far, and after tasting many, many vegetables...cavolo nero. It's like a really soft kale. You can eat it any form: cooked, raw...

I was raised in Los Angeles, but I spent my summers, since I was born, in Martha's Vineyard. My best friend, since we were little kids, lives there, and he's a farmer. His whole family farms. I know it might seem odd, but it's what I love more than anything. Being in gardens have been some of the most wonderful times of my life. Washing lettuce and watching things grow...you feel connected to the world. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything that connects you to the universe in the same way that planting a seed does.
That's so sweet! And now you've got a beard like a real farmer.

The" cavolo nero "is a typical Italian product, more precisely Tuscan, we especially use it in a dish typical regional tuscan called "ribollita",(it is a sort of soup of stale bread and various vegetables, very savory and famous) At times Jake knows how to be really of class!

^^^ Jake just finished filming a movie. He can take a break. He may start filming another a month or two from now. No big hurry. Let the man enjoy his life. Before End of Watch started filming, posters went on and on about him not working and what he was doing. Then, before most knew it, he was on the set filming. Oh, I forgot, he and Michael Pena took promo shots months before filming started. Thus the bald head look.

Producer Mark Gordon has an overall deal at ABC Studio and has previously developed such TV series as "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice" for the network.
Now comes word that Gordon and ABC are at work on a TV series based on Gordon's sci-fi thriller "Source Code," which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and grossed $123 million on a $32 million budget earlier this year.
Like the film, the series follows three former federal agents who are part of a top-secret program. Each week, they'll use "Source Code" technology to jump into the consciousness of people involved in tragic events. Steve Maeda ("Lie to Me," "Lost") is on board to write.

And how about engaging someone to conduct a poll on audiences' attitude towards gay stars, instead of trotting out the same old tired assumptions about gay stars in romantic roles.
It's just a vicious circle that won't be broken until someone does something more than repeat the same old story we've been hearing for decades. It's as if nothing has changed in the world, and that just isn't the case, so why do they keep acting like it in HW.
The Rum Diaries is not doing well at the box office, proving once again it's not the star that matters as much as it's the story. Week after week of bad box office numbers, and HW is still doing business as usual.
Is it any wonder that people prefer to stay home and rent movies or watch TV instead?

What is it that about gay actors that you have a "problem" with. Usually when I read about people who say things like this, they follow it up with remarks about how they can't stop thinking about gay sex and how "icky" it is. Never understood why people who are homophobic are so obsessed with the mechanics of gay sex.

I have studied that picture. It is Austin.
The man in Leadville wasn't Austin - he's shorter and his ear doesn't match with Austin's if you compare them side to side - WFT2 did that last year.

I don't hate or like BBM , I went to see it while it was in the theaters and fell asleep . It's boring with to much landscape and no real story. And no money in the world will make me watch a Franco movie.

A gay couple who had resigned themselves to never having their own children are now the proud parents of two sets of twin boys.
Tony and Brett, from Bendigo, Australia always wanted children of their own but had given up hope, until they saw a report on Australia's 60 Minutes in 2009 about the use of surrogate mothers in India.
Inspired by the story, the pair made contact with a respected Indian fertility doctor and before long were headed for Delhi. "(We) went over to India, made a couple of deposits, stayed there for a week and that's when we sort of started the process," Tony told Australia's A Current Affair.
The men carefully selected the eggs' donors from a list which included photos and medical histories. The eggs were then fertilised with Brett and Tony's sperm and implanted in two surrogates. "First of all it was a 70 per cent chance of a pregnancy, a 50 per cent chance of a live birth and a 10 per cent chance of twins," Brett said. "Basically though she did tell us that the chances of two twins was extremely minimal," Tony said.
"If they said, it's guaranteed that you're going to have four babies, we probably … would have done it differently," Brett said. Two weeks later tests revealed both surrogates were pregnant. Further testing a short time later also found that the women were expecting twins.
Their four boys Jagan, Tarun, Ajay and Gyan are all doing well after being delivered by caesarean on September 24.
The two men say the experience has been life changing and rewarding despite the challenges. "What other people think of us is none of our business," Tony said.
"We're gonna try and be the best parents that we can be, we're gonna love our kids, we're gonna try and be the best family that we have and that's all that matters to us," Brett said.
