I think another reason Jake did not win the Academy Award was that the studios did not want to reward him for toying with coming out. Up until April 2006, Jake had been hinting big time, (hence the whole Toothy Tile story) about declaring his preferences publicly and coming out as bi so he could explain "his superpopular, superannoyingly perfect girlfriend" (from March, 2005.)

Anonymous said...

this would be sad even more. what does its sexuality have to that with its job? If the studios center something they should be ashamed, and they would have had to reward at least Heath

Anonymous said...

...the Cinema you had rewarded the meritocracy the art and make some "justice"

That's what art can do at its best! :)

Anonymous said...

That's what art can do at its best! :)

holy words :)

Anonymous said...

it is sad that a great institution as the Academy doesn't also give always the good example

Academy = voting membership of 5835 people
I really think you can't blame 5835 people for having different taste or not doing something you think they should have done. And keep in mind that Oscards don't matter :)

Anonymous said...

no, but for me it is so clear who deserved the oscar that year and not only for me, do you remember the surprised and incredulous face of Jack Nicholson when he has announced the victory of Crash? I don't want to be so conceited to be believed to know what they have to make the members of the Academy, but they cannot compare just the impact and the art of BBMt with the other movies of that year and I am afraid that has happened for the thematic of the movie

Anonymous said...

they cannot compare just the impact and the art of BBMt with the other movies of that year

They don't need to do that - those 5835 people just need to choose the movie they think is the best - in their opinion.

Anonymous said...

yes but they are specialized people in the cinema however and that they should have the knowledges the competence to understand what film is art and what it is not I think that to from this that comes so much prestige

Anonymous said...

That can't be, that doesn't exist - it is like saying that all movie critics should love some movie because that movie is true art. It is art for some, but not for all, there can't be so much objectivity in art.

Anonymous said...

for me in reality yes. if not a complete objectivity a common sense of knowledge for example objectively both the Giconda that the Mrylin of r Whorol their are considered art. as many objectively the Gioconda is undoubtedly superior. if you have called to judge something you have to depart from of the common paremetrisi to be credible

Anonymous said...

You can't tell other people what they should consider as art or which movie is better - it is up to them to decide.

Anonymous said...

The fix was in after Brokeback won the BAFTA. That's when the top Hollywood brass made sure there would be no Best Picture for Brokeback Mountain, even though the film had won every other major award. Homophobia was a major explanation.

Remember, it took over 7 years to even make the movie.

Anonymous said...

I don't certainly want to do it, I try only to express my opinion, in believable way and how much more objective possible, I study to the DAMSE in Bologna ( an artistic school ), cinematography and art, certain I don't have the truth in pocket and I am only a student, however BBMt we have studied it and essay as work of art Crash no:)

Anonymous said...

That's when the top Hollywood brass made sure there would be no Best Picture for Brokeback Mountain

Made sure? How? Someone called 5835 voting members and asked them not to vote for BBMt?

Anonymous said...

you are absolutely right BBMt has also won the gold Leo to Venzia as good films Venice it is the most important cinema festival in my country

Anonymous said...

and Jake has been the only one to also win the BAFTA, naturally also Heath deserved it and for me also Ann in the scene of the phone call has been fantastic

Anonymous said...

All four of them were fantastic in BBMt.

Anonymous said...

yes is true, also Randy Quaid has been superb in the few scenes that he has done

Anonymous said...

I think art speaks about issues, not that everyone has to agree which films are "art" and which are not, but there's no denying the impact they can have.

Anonymous said...

if you look for in all the classifications that are done on the best movie of the decade, or, even of the century BBMt there is always, perhaps it won't be art for everybody but of of sure it is art for many more of those for which it is not

Anonymous said...

that year the oscar as best actor protagonist won it Philip Seymour Hoffman for Thruman Capote ?

Anonymous said...

It was a shame BBM did not win best movie. That will be written about in future stories about Hollywood. And to lose to a crap movie like Crash makes it even worse. The Academy voters should be embarrassed for themselves. Office politics intrigue backstabbing plotting and scheming exists in all industries.

Broken Tower: Film Review said...

James Franco's arty piece about maverick poet Hart Crane may serve better as his thesis film than as a commercial release.

A stone-skipping account of the life trajectory of poet Hart Crane as opposed to a well developed biographical drama, James Franco's “The Broken Tower” is something of a companion piece to “Howl,” in which Franco starred last year, in its unconventional treatment of a gay renegade twentieth century American writer. The definition of what most people would consider arty, this rarified slice of indie esoterica was shot in rather striking black-and-white, features huge slabs of very difficult verse being read aloud as well as long scenes of the subject just walking around and includes one entirely gratuitous shot of what may or may not actually be the first former host of an Oscar telecast performing an explicit sexual act on another man, the uncertainty stemming from the deliberate darkness in which it was filmed. Franco's name will get this around to various festivals and perhaps into very limited specialized release where the gay angle will help, but genuine enthusiasm will be scarce.

The imposing impenetrability of his notably ahead-of-its-time poetry notwithstanding, Hart Crane led a life so impassioned, questing and intense that it's surprising the story has been ignored this long. Had Ken Russell ever chosen to make a film about an American poet, he could have created a really demented gay fantasia about him, to borrow Tony Kushner's subtitle for “Angels in America.”

Tobey Maguire Sued for Participating in Multi-Million Dollar Illegal Gambling Ring

“Spider-Man” star Tobey Maguire is one of more than a dozen Hollywood heavyweights who are being sued in connection to an illegal gambling ring that allegedly ran multi-million dollar underground poker games, Radar Online reports.

According to the suit, Maguire won more than $300,000 worth of illegal funds allegedly embezzled from a hedge fund investor by Bradley Ruderman, who is currently in jail for a ponzi scheme.

The games, reportedly led by Ruderman, CEO of Ruderman Capital Partners, are unlicensed and illegal under California law. According to the investigation, Ruderman lost $25M of investor money in the games, which were held bi-weekly in suites at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Viper Room and Four Seasons Hotel.

Italian newspaper Repubblica writes about George Clooney gay rumors:

"Love stories sometimes end. Personal reasons unfathomable, shared a stage and happy and then, at some point, the awareness that it is better to take separate roads. And this is one of the possible interpretations. A, because in the case specifically there would be another. that what she wants the crash as a predictable and expected, conclusone written a story built around a table for a variety of needs - advertising, image advertising. Someone, born of the liaison, spoke of Clooney's alleged homosexuality and the need, therefore, capable of accompanying a beautiful daughter to dispel any suspicion. practice also adopted by Hollywood since the earliest times, and that you want - just to give an example - even at the base of the short and stormy relationship between James Dean and Annamaria Pierangeli - which, it is said, then "served" even at the side of the late Rock Hudson. Why is being gay in America is not easy at all, be in Hollywood is even more complicated - run Keanu Reeves voice that, despite the global success of The Matrix, once publicly admitted their homosexuality has lost much of their bargaining power. The court-appointed trustee for the Hollywood celebrity poker lawsuits tried to privately settle with Tobey Maguire, and other parties, before filing, to avoid negative publicity, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.

However, all attempts to do so were unsuccessful and trustee Howard Ehrenberg was forced to file against the Spider-man star and other Hollywood bigwigs in an attempt to reimburse money that investors lost in an elaborate Ponzi scheme hatched by hedge fund manager Brad Ruderman.

“The investors that I represent lost about $50 million dollars,” Ehrenberg told RadarOnline.com exclusively. “I contacted representatives for Mr. Maguire before I filed the lawsuit against him as a courtesy, because I didn't want to cause him embarrassment. My attempts to collect money from Mr. Maguire were unsuccessful and went unnoticed, and I was forced to file the lawsuit against him.

Elizabeth is the type - already looking for another rich man to improve her career and make easy money:

"If Elisabetta Canalis and George Clooney's breakup is really "a very difficult and very personal matter," as a statement released by the couple read yesterday, then the Italian actress needs to practice frowning.

As speculation swirled Tuesday that the relationship was on the rocks, a source tells us the incandescent Canalis "didn't appear too heartbroken" as she bonded with Miami Heat fashion plate Dwyane Wade in the front row of the DSquared2 fashion show that afternoon. Our source says the two were "quite chatty" and Canalis was "extra flirty," though the status of her relationship with Clooney did not enter the conversation. "They spoke a lot about their love of fashion," says the insider, who adds that despite a "great connection" between the two, it's "doubtful" anything romantic would come of the relationship, because Wade is dating actress Gabrielle Union."

Discovery announced yesterday that Jake Gyllenhaal will appear on Man vs. Wild when the show returns in July, and the show’s host, Bear Grylls, said that Cameron Diaz has also expressed interest in making an appearance. Previously, Will Ferrell drank his own urine on the show.

The press release said Gyllenhaal’s experience lasted two days, and “Bear and Jake embark on a survival experience neither will forget, to an Icelandic landscape dominated by mountains, huge glaciers and some of Europe’s most active volcanoes.”

As to Diaz, “She’s agreed to it, which is great. So we’re gonna try and do it in due course,” Bear Grylls told Bang Showbiz in an interview noticed by THR.

About Jake, Grylls said:

He added:
The wild is always very revealing. You’ve got to…be able to face your fears and just get on and do it — and on both of those accounts, Jake came up strong.

Jake said:

OT: Gay marriage was passed by the NY Senate!!!

what a beautiful news!:)

New York Allows Same-Sex Marriage, Becoming Largest State to Pass Law said...

ALBANY — Lawmakers voted late Friday to legalize same-sex marriage, making New York the largest state where gay and lesbian couples will be able to wed and giving the national gay-rights movement new momentum from the state where it was born.

The marriage bill, whose fate was uncertain until moments before the vote, was approved 33 to 29 in a packed but hushed Senate chamber. Four members of the Republican majority joined all but one Democrat in the Senate in supporting the measure after an intense and emotional campaign aimed at the handful of lawmakers wrestling with a decision that divided their friends, their constituents and sometimes their own homes.

With his position still undeclared, Senator Mark J. Grisanti, a Republican from Buffalo who had sought office promising to oppose same-sex marriage, told his colleagues he had agonized for months before concluding he had been wrong.

“I apologize for those who feel offended,” Mr. Grisanti said, adding, “I cannot deny a person, a human being, a taxpayer, a worker, the people of my district and across this state, the State of New York, and those people who make this the great state that it is the same rights that I have with my wife.”
...
Passage of same-sex marriage here followed a daunting run of defeats in other states where voters barred same-sex marriage by legislative action, constitutional amendment or referendum. Just five states currently permit same-sex marriage: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont, as well as the District of Columbia.
...
The approval of same-sex marriage represented a reversal of fortune for gay-rights advocates, who just two years ago suffered a humiliating defeat when a same-sex marriage bill was easily rejected by the Senate, which was then controlled by Democrats. This year, with the Senate controlled by Republicans, the odds against passage of same-sex marriage appeared long.

Check out Ashton's old nose, Ben Affleck's weird forehead and hairline, Jake's old nose and the Cloons' excess eye baggage!

Oh no! No one told us anything about the old nose!

BTs, no need to worry, Daddy can pay nose jobs for all (if you ever leave the basement) :)

Huh. So I posted what I thought was a rather innocuous comment that Jake was kind of boring lately and it got removed. So pointing out that there's not much to say about Jake right now is offensive somehow? Strange.

Jake Gyllenhaal leaving a medical building in Beverly Hills

Jake Gyllenhaal keeps a low profile as he exits a medical building on Friday (June 24) in Beverly Hills, California.

Homophobes don't understand / "don't understand" simple truths like that, check out hateful comments:

Ridiculous comments, not worth a minute of anyone's time. Some keep making it only a gay issue, when it's an equal rights issue. Anyone should see that while they are entitled to their own beliefs, that also people are entitled to certain equal rights. You can't expect people to be taxed, work, etc. in our society at the same rates, but not get the same rights as others. "You can't have marriage, but you can have civil unions" just doesn't cut it.

That's fine in theory, but those people are our neighbours, colleagues and they vote.

Anonymous said...

They weren't representative of the state of New York, obviously.

the vote, was approved 33 to 29 in a packed but hushed Senate chamber

Not exactly a small minority either.

Anonymous said...

But so much improvement.

Anonymous said...

It is a big improvement, but good laws won't end homophobia, just like good laws didn't end racism - it will take a long, long time to end the hatred.

Anonymous said...

Having laws in place is what's important, because that's what helped to change racism, and it will be the same for homophobia. There are some who will never change however, including religions, so who cares about them, don't worry about them. There are still racists out there, but huge strides made in laws and public awareness. With laws on your side, and most good people, is what counts.

That is very nice, but you are talking about one part of the world, not the world.

You have to start somewhere.

^ zzzz, exactly.

You know, it's quite amazing isn't it. That when Jake Gyllenhaal wants to fly under the radar and not end up in the press he can successfully manage it for WEEKS nay, months on end (usually when he has no movie to promote) and with no major press coverage in People, US Weekly or abroad in the Daily Shill/Mail etc, and yet the minute he gets a new beard and trots her down the street, BAM! He's everywhere.

And the countdown has begun...

PrairieGirl,

why are you proud of posting something so stupid as suggesting that Ted's answers about BT could mean that Jake and Austin are having another kid or will soon have another kid?

It matters to you why? If that's what she believes then so be it. What's it to you? She might be correct anyway.

I don't personally think there is some great romance between Austin and Jake but would I be surprised if there were? No hell no, would I be surprised if there were a kid? Nope. Why? Because there are powers that be greater than us out there working on behalf of celebrities and stuff we will never know about.

There is stuff we know about Jake and Austin and based on that we can be shure they aren't together and there is no BT. You are one of those who think that people don't need to spend time together to be a couple or to raise kids.

Ryan Reynolds is no superhero material said...

3. Green Lantern 3D (Warner Bros) Week 2 [3,816 Theaters]
Friday $6M, Saturday $7.1M, Weekend $18M (-66%), Cume $89M

The superhero fell apart its second weekend. Worse, there's little green overseas where grosses for Green Lantern never got off the ground: Friday showed a -60% drop from its soft opening in the UK alone. After this humiliation, Warner Bros needs to rethink how it mines its DC Comics library without Chris Nolan producing/directing/writing everything.

I don't care about Reynolds or Leo's beard, but Peter deserves a better movie and better box office.

No, it is not a fact. Are you in their jeans back pocket 24/7? If so, please fill in all the details of their schedule yesterday and the six prior days. Thank you.

This isn't playing stupid, this is too stupid for words.
We have tons of info about Jake and Austin being apart when they are free to be together.
You have zero facts to support "Jake and Austin are still togethere" theory.
Do you ever stop and think?
