This past weekend, the New Yorker held its annual festival, which -- as always -- includes a multitude of speakers and panels discussing a variety of topics. Top players in all professions were represented, including Stephen King, Malcolm Gladwell, Jake Gyllenhaal and Regina Spektor -- all chatting about themselves and their areas of expertise. Our favorite, though, would have to have been Cynthia Nixon on the panel discussion "Love and Obstacles: The Case for Gay Marriage."
Ms. Nixon, who is most known for her role has Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City, and now is engaged to education activist Christine Marinoni, stole our hearts with her rather calm, well made argument. Not only does she make a good case, she makes an example of how to make said point.
“Gay people who want to marry have no desire to redefine marriage in any way. When women got the vote, they did not redefine voting. When African-Americans got the right to sit at a lunch counter alongside white people, they did not redefine eating out. They were simply invited to the table. And that is all we want to do. We have no desire to change marriage. We want to be entitled to not only the same privileges, but the same responsibilities as straight people.”

If you think we're obsessed with all things Blue Valentine, you're right. We love us some Ryan Gosling goodness, but like we've said: The movie is damn good. And if it doesn't get some Oscar lovin' (considering all that NC-17 BS), it'll be a crime.
Which is why we were très thrilled when the movie poster hit the web today. And sure, it's sexy—it's got über-hot Ry and Michelle Williams on it, after all—but is it as sexy as its NC-17 rating?

Because, as you'll remember, it isn't sex that scored this flick it's pseudo X-rating. And that's why the poster perfectly encompasses the dark and gritty sexiness of the flick.
No nudity necessary—'cause there's practically no nudity in the movie, either. Is this the weirdest ratings dissing ever, or what?
Hell, if you compare the Valentine poster to what's selling our other fave flick, Love and Other Drugs, you'd think Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway's coitus-interruptus moment would be the adults-only feature hitting theaters (not that we're complaining about seeing the oh-so-delish Jakey G's abs, tush and just about everything else).
This Valentine poster says it all: It's sweet, but it's real. Just look under the title: "A Love Story." And guess what? They mean it.
True love isn't rated PG-13. And this flick is honest about that, which is exactly why it deserves to steal some shiny trophies come award season—heck, it even says that on the poster:

Also, if there's any justice, this movie will get the R-rating it deserves when the filmmakers appeal. If only so more folks will be able to actually see a good movie instead of the latest blockbuster pabulum to hit theaters.

It's really gotten to be one of the most vicious, Catch-22 romantic situations in Hollywood: poor Toothy Tile's love life. Last we heard, Tinseltown's most notoriously closeted actor last gave his fake-beard ways another whirl—and not in the classiest of ways, either.

Watching all the vids it's apparent Anne loves Jake a lot as a friend. I even noticed that years ago during BBM promo. She was always protective of him. Jake was too much into the friendship with Heath and Michelle at the time. The three of them used to ignore Anne oftentimes, probably unconsciously. Jake didn't even mention her in his thank speech at the BAFTAs. It's nice that he seems to appreciate Anne more now as a friend. :)
Taylor Swift is due to perform at BBC's Radio Teen Award Show... so if Jake hasn't left London expect some PR approved sightings!

As with any story like this, no way of knowing for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me. I think the fact that Jake likes to be bearded up with blonde virginal sweetheart types--i.e, kind of sexless--is a bit twisted in its own way, and I wouldn't be surprised if goes along with this whole darker side.
It's like the Larry Craigs and other deeply closeted men of the world, the one's with wives and these "clean" public images who then pick up men in public places. But usually those men are the deep in denial types. Don't know whether Jake is in that category or not, but wouldn't surprise me.

This is speculation but I'm guessing that what MAY have happend is that one of Ted's friends read Jake uber I am straight declarations at this recent LaOD press conference--the one Ted went to in which Jake said that he and Heath were acting whereas with he and Anne-well that was real (oh really, does her bf know?). I think Ted's friend read that and blew a gasket because he knew about this story in the alley--maybe it involved a good friend of his. And then he called Ted..who probably got in touch with friend.

Several gay couples (male) I know have been together for up to 25 years, so they must have been together as younger guys. Whatever their personal arrangments are, I wouldn't know.
