August 4, 2010 - Proposition 8 ruled unconstitutional
From the ruling: "Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California constitution the notion that opposite sex couples are superior to same sex couples."

JUDY SHEPARD, mother of Matthew Shepard:
“These plaintiffs are law-abiding, family-oriented, tax-paying citizens whose privacy was invaded, and whose dignity was affronted, by a misguided and unconstitutional law. Their victory at trial shows that our courts still play a vital role in safeguarding the rights of minorities from majorities who misunderstand them. But more importantly, it proves the power of personal stories. Equal marriage rights are ultimately about people’s families, and during the trial, their personal need for legal recognition of their relationships came through loud and clear. After Matt came out to me, he once asked me if I thought gay couples would ever be allowed to get married. I told him I didn’t think it would happen in my lifetime, but it probably would in his. It’s so sad, and ironic, that it turned out the other way. But this case warms my heart, to think that his dream is still coming true.”

Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite sex couples are superior to same-sex couples.
Because California has no interest in discriminating against gay men and lesbians, and because Proposition 8 prevents California from fulfilling its constitutional obligation to provide marriages on an equal basis, the court concludes that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional.
Bachelor Jake Pavelka talked about rumors he is gay on The View yesterday, after being asked about being intimate on camera by Elisabeth Hasselbeck. "There was a lack of intimacy because our problems were so heavy. I can't separate love and intimacy and that's the Southern guy in me and apparently that makes me gay."
Pavelka then turns to Hasselbeck and says, "I can't see how somebody could look at you and not be completely attracted."
Watch, starts at about :50...
Towleroad
I can't separate love and intimacy
He's a lesbian at heart.
Awwww, some great pictures. Glad to see California being a leader again. That was a disappointment for me, for a state that is usually so progressive. Hooray! :)
I can't separate love and intimacy.
Me neither. :)
9:44 AM - you are a guy?
No. :)
Thought so. Jake Pavelka, men don't need love to want and have sex.
Colbert thinks he might be gay
I'm glad he finally admitted that to himself! lol
Jake Pavelka, men don't need love to want and have sex.
Some, no, but there are some surprising men out there who do bond. As a woman, I certainly bond, so it's not something I think of casually, for my own good. :)
I love Colbert. That clip was one of his best yet on "the gay". LOL.
Never realized Ricky and Clay's children were born just a few days apart.
The campaign against Prop. 8 was a disaster, and everyone just assumed it wouldn't pass. I think that is one reason why you didn't have celebs and others speaking out against it, it just wasn't on their radar. I hate to say it since it looks like she's using BP as much for publicity as anything else, but Sophia Bush was one of the few out there talking about it before the election.
Not Your Average Joe
Joseph Gordon-Levitt has kissed dudes, done drag, supported gay marriage, and made plans to sing on Broadway, but the Inception star doesn’t care if the press thinks he’s gay.
^^Oh please, don't give me any more reasons to adore him. :)
Colbert is very funny. :)
That inteview with JGL was absolutely amazing. He's so down-to-earth, and smart and articulate. He's gotten so attractive as he's gotten older too. I see good things ahead for him. :)
Q: More importantly, was Topher a good kisser?
JGL: [Laughs] Probably one the worst kissers I’ve ever kissed. You know, he’s a dude, and girls are awesome to kiss, I gotta say.
*cough*
Q: You once turned your camera on paparazzi in a video you posted online called “Pictures of Assholes,” in which a gay paparazzo claims he was photographing you because he thought you were with a boyfriend. It was pretty cool that you didn’t get defensive about it.
JGL: Thank you for saying that, and I’m glad you saw that video. Yeah, why dignify that guy by responding to him? It just goes to show how those rumors start—because some bitter guy says something like that?
*cough*
Need some syrup for that cough?
If he thinks Topher is a lousy kisser, what's wrong with that? Not everyone is a good kisser. :)
Paparazzo can be intrusive, gay or straight.
The person with the nagging cough is ignoring all of the good, supportive things JGL has done that was discussed in that interview for a couple of nit-picky arguable missteps? He's a big supporter of gay rights, and gay marriage.
11:15 AM, read again. He implies Topher is a bad kissed because he's a dude but kissing girls is awesome.
I don't need to read again. You read again.
Reading comprehension not your strong point I see.
11:22 AM - you need to read it again if you think JGL din't protest too much.
You can have the last word.
What 29 year old guy says "kissing girls is awesome"? Either he's an idiot, wants to look cool or he just wants to show how straight he is.
What 29 year old guy says "girls are awesome to kiss"? Either he's an idiot, wants to look cool or he just wants to show how straight he is.
You once turned your camera on paparazzi in a video you posted online called “Pictures of Assholes"
That was assholish of JGL, can't stand people who don't acknowledge their good luck and aren't gracious.
If youread carefully - he says both, he doesn't prefer kissing men, but Topher isn't that great of a kisser anyway. He was probably kidding. There's nothing wrong with that IMO. You shouldn't take personal offense to it, with all the other, more meaningful, things he's done in support of gay rights. I don't go through interviews with a fine toothed comb looking for things to say a-ha! about, no matter how miniscule they may be.
with all the other, more meaningful, things he's done in support of gay rights
JGL supports gay rights, but hates gay rumors about himself: it just goes to show how those (gay) rumors start — because some bitter guy says something like that.
JGL seems quite pretentious. Yeah, come at me, JGL fangirl(s)!
I don't go through interviews with a fine toothed comb looking for things to say a-ha! about, no matter how miniscule they may be.
You skip things that show the person in less favorable light?
No. That was your interpretation.
"You shouldn't take personal offense to it, with all the other, more meaningful, things he's done in support of gay rights" = we shoud forget someone was an asshole because he did good things too?
11:49 AM, lol. That's it, keep playing dumb, it won't change what JGL said. BTW, the interviewer asked JGL about kissing Topher (a guy), so why did JGL make a point of saying that kissing girls is awesome, if not to let everyone know what a big hetero he is?
I think if Jake phrased kissing Heath the same way jgl did, people would be pissed. But people are being all fangirl/boy over jgl so they are pretending it is a wonderful statement.
Bitch Back
Dear Ted:
Now that Judas Jack-Off and Dashed Dingle-Dream are back together, what are the chances they will finally come out? Do you think they are more or less likely to come out than Toothy Tile and Grey Goose? I hope at least one of them will!
—Chaz
Dear Close Closet Call:
That's a tough one, Chaz, 'cause both the duos are mucho comfortable in their respective closets. But if I had to choose who would come out as a couple, it would be T2 and G2. Way more serious and way more comfortable with each other.
Dear Ted:
I'm getting a little obsessed with looking for beards and seem to be finding them everywhere! Are bearding relationships set up by a third party, say a manager? Or does an actor just approach a friend or costar and say, "Hey, will you be my pretend GF so I won't loose my female fan base and can continue to make lots o' money? 'n thanks?"—BubbleYum
Dear Hairy Situation:
Could be either, really. Some arrangements are far more business-oriented, involving both camps and paperwork galore (yes, there are contracts—that's how serious these setups can get). Others are more casual, with a hottie helping out her gay bestie.
Dear Ted:
Is Toothy's longtime BF a chef?
—Curious
Dear Dinner and Dessert:
By profession, no. But who knows what he could whip up in the kitchen for his main man.
No one is perfect. I don't care about "girls are awesome to kiss" comment, but how JGL handled paparazzi thing is wrong, arrogant and homophobic.
Reminded me of that old article about Leo, his "no tips for waiters" policy and his friends beating up a guy because he dared to say no to Leo's wishes.
But who knows what he could whip up in the kitchen for his main man.
Main man? How many men is there?
Uncle Austin cooking? No thanks I'd rather eat cat food.
Main man? How many men is there?
How long is the wait and do they take reservations?
Main man? How many men is there?
Don't look at me!
Noone said it was a wonderful statement, but it's not the end of the world kind of a statement. In fact, I think someone above said it aruguably was a misstep, so please don't exaggerate because you want to make a point? People have criticized Jake's and Heath's statements about kissing each other six ways to Sunday, so don't be pretentious.
Calling someone a fangirl is the supreme insult here, I guess. lol
If you want to criticize JGL, knock yourselves out.
Main man? How many men is there?
Here... let me show you to your table.
If you want to criticize JGL, knock yourselves out.
Why shouldn't he be criticized when he deserves it? We criticize Jake, Heath, Leo, etc.
Absolutely - I was just hoping for a little fairness and acknowledgement of what he has done in that process. Silly fangirl that I am.
Main man? How many men is there?
John, J.G., Mr. Oscar Winner, all the cute boys.... I've saved the best seat in the house just for you.
Absolutely - I was just hoping for a little fairness and acknowledgement of what he has done in that process. Silly fangirl that I am.
Please, there has been non-stop gushing over JGL on WFT2 for weeks now. It seems some of you can't take objective criticism along with adoration. Is JGL supposed to be the sacred cow of WFT2?
Objective? LOL
Can we milk him?
Objective? LOL
lol, keep those fangirl blinders on.
Nonstop gushing sounds good tho. ;)
How about starting your own JGL site where you can ride his dick nonstop? It's getting tiring.
Ok, we don't want to tire you.
Will the two of you stop bickering? Just.stop.
They started it!
Stop bickering and start feeding me.
Absolutely - I was just hoping for a little fairness and acknowledgement of what he has done in that process. Silly fangirl that I am.
What is your definition of fairness? Let's pretend that JGL has no flaws?
ohn, J.G., Mr. Oscar Winner, all the cute boys.... I've saved the best seat in the house just for you.
LOL, bad fan :)
John, J.G., Mr. Oscar Winner, all the cute boys.... I've saved the best seat in the house just for you.
Oh. My. God.
I don't go through interviews with a fine toothed comb looking for things to say a-ha! about, no matter how miniscule they may be.
Someone on here can't stand it when anyone talks about how gay-postive otther actors are.
They think everything we say positive about a JGL, Bomer or Hardy is a dig at Jake. Well, if the shoe fits......
I think that is a great interview with JGL. I have no idea if he is gay or straight, but he is very supportive of the gay community, and was perfectly happy to sit down with the Advocate.
Someone on here can't stand it when anyone talks about how gay-postive otther actors are.
JGL is not gay-positive all the time, do you expect us to play dumb?
Q: You once turned your camera on paparazzi in a video you posted online called “Pictures of Assholes,” in which a gay paparazzo claims he was photographing you because he thought you were with a boyfriend. It was pretty cool that you didn’t get defensive about it.
JGL: Thank you for saying that, and I’m glad you saw that video. Yeah, why dignify that guy by responding to him? It just goes to show how those rumors start—because some bitter guy says something like that?
You are such a hypocrite, Destiny. If Jake made the comment JGL has about kissing a man you'd be ripping him a new one.
Two new ones, lol.
Someone on here can't stand it when anyone talks about how gay-postive otther actors are.
We are free to criticize Jake, but not free to criticize actors who hide in glass closets, talk how experimenting turned them straight or get pissed off when paparazzi dare to take their pictures?
For me personally, and no disrespect to JGL because he's clearly very cool, it's the need to kind of ruin the moment by always inserting the relevant 'btw I am straight' tagline that makes you wonder just how 'cool' these people really are when asked.
Not in any bad way, but just this kind of PR-neediness to explain that they're not gay, though they don't mind supporting gay rights.
And basically it's that kind of discomfort they project that makes me think they aren't actually as brave as they seem because someone who really gave a 100% committed flying fuck wouldn't care if you all thought he was gay or not, he'd not care if there were any mystery about him or what people thought. He wouldn't need to clarify his own sexuality ecause he wouldn't give a toss.
It's the kind of wimping out in these interviews that does it for me. But, to take nothing away from JGL (and to be fair these things can also be planted by their agents), he is still obviously a great guy with a lot of great ideas and a giving nature and fair play to him. He works hard and deserves every success.
I'm not having a go at him personally, just the kind of standardised modern interview all actors do in which support is fine but drawing personal boundaries around yourself is almost constant as well. You just wish there was one that didn't care.
The White House's official reaction to the ruling was this: "The President has spoken out in opposition to Proposition 8 because it is divisive and discriminatory. He will continue to promote equality for LGBT Americans."
See what Mr. Obama's spokesflack Ben LaBolt did there? Obama believes Prop 8 to be "divisive and discriminatory," so he'll "continue to promote equality," just not every kind of equality.
So no, Prop 8 did not change the president's mind about same-sex marriage, and nobody at this website expected it to. "He supports civil unions, doesn’t personally support gay marriage though he supports repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, and has opposed divisive and discriminatory initiatives like Prop. 8 in other states," says a White House aide who refused to be named — because stating the obvious is still a cardinal sin.
Will Prop 8's Sudden Death Change The Way Barack Obama Feels About Your Marriages?
No one is immune to criticism here, if you don't like it take it to a fansite where you're free to swoon and pretend all day long.
and was perfectly happy to sit down with the Advocate.
He was. When Jake gives an interview with the Advocate I'll be happy to give him credit for it, but pigs will fly before that happens.
It's the kind of wimping out in these interviews that does it for me. 2:38PM, I think that was well-said and your reasoning is fair and thoughtful.
and was perfectly happy to sit down with the Advocate
That's nice, but doesn't mean a thing - only JGL's words and actions are what matter.
I have no idea if he is gay or straight, but he is very supportive of the gay community, and was perfectly happy to sit down with the Advocate.
Of course, and in the same interview he made sure to tell us how awesome he finds kissing girls when asked about kissing Topher whom he didn't enjoy kissing because "you know, he's a dude". Being supportive of gay right, gay marriage etc is all good as long as he makes it clear he's straight.
Come on Destiny, playing dumb doesn't suit you. You're smarter than this.
Some arrangements are far more business-oriented, involving both camps and paperwork galore (yes, there are contracts—that's how serious these setups can get).
Jake's former beard.
Others are more casual, with a hottie helping out her gay bestie.'
Austin's current beard.
And so they've caved. Target chief executive Gregg Steinhafel wrote employees in a statement today saying the company is "genuinely sorry" it donated $150,000 in cash and services to MN Forward, the PAC backing Minnesota Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, who's anti-gay marriage (among other things).
In his letter, Steinhafel said Target would create a new review process moving forward when it comes to political donations. It doesn't appear Target has asked for its money back.

Tom Hardy opens up about his drug-riddled past.
Tom Hardy has admitted that he was "out of control" when he was addicted to drink and drugs.
The Inception star told Men's Health that his body eventually couldn't cope with his lifestyle.
"I thought I'd have a little bit of a party, and I'd end up high and frightened, in places that scared me," he confessed.
"In a blackout I could end up anywhere. I might wake up somewhere the other side of London, or in another country. Or in bed with someone I didn't know, not knowing how I got there. Bleeding. This was on a daily basis.
"And I was going to work. I didn't want to appear rock 'n' roll. I didn't want anyone to know I was out of control, but I couldn't hide it," he said.
"Eventually, the body gives up. My body told me. I was completely kaput. I was lucky I didn't get hepatitis or AIDS."
The 32-year-old actor, who recently admitted to having gay flings, said last year that his drug problems had cost him his marriage

We are free to criticize Jake, but not free to criticize actors who hide in glass closets, talk how experimenting turned them straight or get pissed off when paparazzi dare to take their pictures?
Please point me to where I said nobody could critize other actors. All I did was express my opinion as to why I think some people are so quick to critize other actors.
Come on Destiny, playing dumb doesn't suit you. You're smarter than this.
I was talking about my overall impression of the interview, and the things he has done. Have you seen Mysterious Skin? It makes the sex scenes in BBM look postively G rated in comparison? And yes JGL is claming to be straight, but I don't know that he isn't. As for the paps, I took it to mean he was annoyed at being stalked by paps, not that it was a gay issue. Again, this is just all my opinion.
Is JGL a bit defensive? Maybe. But I just don't see anything in that interview that exhibits disgust or a belief that being gay is bad thing and or that everyone is straight, quite unlike some of the things Jake has said and done in recent years.
You are such a hypocrite, Destiny. If Jake made the comment JGL has about kissing a man you'd be ripping him a new one.
Hi Jack. You miss me?
I just don't see anything in that interview that exhibits disgust or a belief that being gay is bad thing
What about "assholes","bitter" gay paparazzi who start gay rumors about actors?
Please point me to where I said nobody could critize other actors.
Here:
I don't go through interviews with a fine toothed comb looking for things to say a-ha! about, no matter how miniscule they may be.
Someone on here can't stand it when anyone talks about how gay-postive otther actors are.
You are such a hypocrite, Destiny. If Jake made the comment JGL has about kissing a man you'd be ripping him a new one.
Hellloooo...
She would be so upset and disgusted she would be commenting all night about that comment if Jake would have said it.....
Um, is there some rule out there somewhere that says that gay paparazzi can't be assholes the same way that straight paparazzi can be assholes?
Paparazzi was an "asshole" and "bitter" because he said / suggested that JGL's friend was his boyfriend. I think you wouldn't have such a problem with comprehending if Jake said it.
Again, I didn't say "stop making those remarks" "you can't speak your mind" "get a life" or any other such language. And the italicized section is not even mine, I was just agreeing with the person who wrote that.
All I did was express my belief as to the reasons some of the comments were made.
They think everything we say positive about a JGL, Bomer or Hardy is a dig at Jake. Well, if the shoe fits......
It took me awhile to catch on, but I think you are right Destiny. Giving JGL, Bomer, Quinto, et al credit is in no way a dig at Jake. I try to give credit where credit is due, and make allowances for people being less than perfect all the time.
But all that said, I think JGL's interview was a damn good one.
Many paps are lower than the lowest scum on the earth. They scream, yell, use insults, anything to get attention and a rise out of the subject, if it suits them. I bet the pap didn't even really think that guy was JGL's boyfriend.
I know some probably won't believe it, but I try to cut people some slack too. I used to do that with Jake and Austin a lot. But somewhere along the line during the Reeking years it changed for me when it came to Jake, and much later, with Austin too when he started actively bearding. Although in Austin's case at least he says some ambiguous and gay-positive things, and so far hasn't done anything like gagging at men kissing. When it is just one thing on top of another, with no let up, nothing to counter it, etc., it is hard for me to find anything good to say. And with Jake in particular, so much of it has been manufactured in recent years that it is hard for me to think it is not all manufactured.
Having seen JGL do so many positive things, I'm not going to jump on him for the things others find not to their liking in the Advocate interview.
5:11 PM - yes, paparazzi are terrible, how dare they try to make JGL look gay??? JGL has every right to bitch, complain and insult them! *rolls eyes*
Again, I didn't say "stop making those remarks" "you can't speak your mind" "get a life" or any other such language.
Let's stay on the subject, shall we?
Is it OK to criticize JGL or Matt or any other gay or gay friendly celebrity for doing or saying something wrong? Yes or no?
Having seen JGL do so many positive things...
Like what?
Having seen JGL do so many positive things, I'm not going to jump on him for the things others find not to their liking in the Advocate interview.
That is fine only if you are going to be fair and do the same with Jake's interviews.
Let's stay on the subject, shall we?
Is it OK to criticize JGL or Matt or any other gay or gay friendly celebrity for doing or saying something wrong? Yes or no?
And shall we stay on topic as to what I actually said? Everyone is free to say what they want. If you want to criticize someone like JGL or Bomer that is your right and your opinion. If I don't want do it is my right and my opinion.
It is also my right to speak my opinion as to why some criticize them. It is clear that one or more people here do it for sport, trolling purposes, because they are angry about Jake criticism, etc. It is clear from the tone of the remarks and or the way the criticims is worded. There are others who are doing it because they honestly feel that way.
That is fine only if you are going to be fair and do the same with Jake's interviews.
I would love to see Jake say or do something gay positive. If you can point me to something he has said or done in the past year or two I would like to see it. So link away.
What 29 year old guy says "girls are awesome to kiss"?
I know! JGL sounds like an excited teen who finally got to first base. LOL
It is clear that one or more people here do it for sport, trolling purposes, because they are angry about Jake criticism, etc.
Trolls = people who don't agree with you? You expect everyone to have the same opinion as you?
I would love to see Jake say or do something gay positive. If you can point me to something he has said or done in the past year or two I would like to see it. So link away.
Is there an expiration date on doing something gay positive?
Will we be allowed to criticize JGL two years after his producing that gay marriage support movie? Or will it be after 3 years?
JGL is really big on the internet right now, he's un-criticizable. Give it half a year, the JGL post-Inception craze will die down and he will fade back to indie obscurity which I think suits him much better anyway.
Giving JGL, Bomer, Quinto, et al credit is in no way a dig at Jake.
It isn't, but for some reason it gets turned into a competition. Same as when it's mentioned that someone is a good actor or might get an Oscar nod it's also seen as a dig at Jake. idgi.

It did seem like Jake had a time set after BBM where his Gay friendly antics were to come to an end. Everything about Jake seems manufactured. Jakes Gay friendly ways may have ended but now post reeke I am more convinced than ever that Jake is Gay.
Jake must wake up nights in cold sweats in fear that he may make a mistake and the truth will come out.
JGL can be Gay friendly but doesn't want people to think he is Gay. I have no idea whether he is or not. I think the papparazzi he tried to embarrass in his video handled himself very well. I was emotionally touched by what he said at the end.
I feel sad for Tom Hardy. The guy opens up his soul about things that have happened in his life and now he and his PR have concocted two different stories as to why his experimenting with men sexually was either not true or due to drugs and booze. God how tough it must be for Gay and Bisexual men to bare their souls in HW. It seems that they must live in fear of the horrible things that will happen to their career when they tell and live the truth. HW is filled with neurotics who love to pacify the homophobes and fangirls of the world.
Audiences love good films and good acting. Fangirls and Fanboys love gay and Str8 men. I suggest Tom Hardy, JGL and Jake concentrate on acting and stop worrying that anything and everything that may make you appear Gay inhibits your ability to act or suddenly will put you in the poor house. Stop being neurotic and act. Geez.
I think the papparazzi he tried to embarrass in his video handled himself very well. I was emotionally touched by what he said at the end.
Thanks.
Many paps are lower than the lowest scum on the earth. They scream, yell, use insults, anything to get attention and a rise out of the subject, if it suits them. I bet the pap didn't even really think that guy was JGL's boyfriend.
Yeah, but maybe you didn't see all the comments at that other site. Most of the comments where mad as hell at Jake when the asshole pap said something to Jake coming from jury duty and he got mad an reacted. Everyone was so apppalled at Jake. It was really because he was still attachted to Reese at the time. If he was not attached to Reese, he would have gotten the same response as JGL is getting, the big bad nasty paps. Most of the posters considered Jake the asshole, now, the paps is the asshole when it comes to JGL.
What other site?
It was really because he was still attachted to Reese at the time.
Not true, Jake spitting on paparazzi was disgusting.
JGL was an arrogant asshole.
I thought those paps were antagonistic and nasty, the swearing, the sense of entitlement, and putting JGL down. It doesn't explain why they were chasing him if that's what they really thought. I'm glad JGL stood up to them and called them out. They really were a$$holes. One freely admits that he was taking the pic of JGL and the guy friend purely "because people like to read that stuff" whether it was true or not and his own wishful thinking. I don't think that's admirable, it's typical pap behavior from what I've heard. I don't remember what was said at the end, but they seemed to calm down a bit, and said their names. Sounds like a bit of peace was made.
7:57, why do you see this a competition between Jake and JGL? I don't understand why you're comparing. Unless you can show that the exact same people who commented negatively about Jake and the jury duty pap "at that other site" (whatever that is) are the exact same people now commenting positively about JGL and the pap he ran into, I don't get the point.
HW is filled with neurotics who love to pacify the homophobes and fangirls of the world.
I agree with you Jersey Tom, I totally agree. But the gay fans and gay press, or should I just say press(?) has to take some responsibility also. They over-react to anything gay or bi when it's associated with men, but do and say nothing as if to have a so-what attitude if a woman does the same. They have to act as if it's not a big deal also, then it would be "no big deal" when a man confesses about his varied sexuality. But I guess the no big deal really has to come from the male actor first huh? Apparently it was when Tom stated them.
I was hoping that the Tom Hardy comments were kind of given little attention so that he could build his career and it would be a "no big deal" kind of situation. But it's started now.
I thought those paps were antagonistic and nasty, the swearing, the sense of entitlement, and putting JGL down.
Give me a break. Poor JGL suffered because paparazzi weren't nice to him? JGL is a little prick.
JGL has said some positive things about paps and their role, I forget where I read it - this incident I get the impression was an isolated one because either the paps were being intrusive and pushy or were out of line in some way.
JGL is a little prick.
He really is:
Yeah, why dignify that guy by responding to him? It just goes to show how those rumors start—because some bitter guy says something like that?
Looks like a troll is talking to himself and trying to stir up shit. What a surprise.
Some nice comments about JGL from that Advocate article:

I lost track of Mr. Gordon-Levitt when "3rd Rock..." was cancelled. I'm happy to learn that he has become an actor of increasingly-recognized prowess. He seems to have an attitude not unlike an earlier Johnny Depp, whose work I still admire -- he seems less affected by "the star-making machinery" of Hollywood and the larger society.

I have so much admiration for this guy--he could be another over-blown cog in the hollywood film industry, churning out one intellectually insulting shit-film after another--but he doesn't--it would seem he carefully chooses only the best indie films to appear in. he has artistic integrity--rather uncommon these days.

I'm glad the Advocate did this article. He is a great actor and it's not about the sexuality - it's about the story. Emotions tend to rule the day, not sex. In the end, he will be one of the great actors of our time, because he knows to get connected to the story - not the ego.

I saw this young man for the first time in 3rd Rock, which was arguably the best comedy ever in TV. He was incredibly good in spite of his young age (13? 14?) and was definitely not overshadowed by some of the best comedy actors in TV (Lithgow, Jane Curtin, etc.) . And I couldn't care less whether he's gay or not, but I do care that we have the support of this already excellent actor.
And another thing, the intimacy and love comments, you can't have intimacy without love IMO. It's not intimate without it, it's just body parts. I know many men who agree.
I suggest Tom Hardy, JGL and Jake concentrate on acting and stop worrying that anything and everything that may make you appear Gay inhibits your ability to act or suddenly will put you in the poor house. Stop being neurotic and act. Geez.
I agree Tom.
Regarding all the noise about what Hardy said, there's no way around the fact that it is news because male actors never say these things. The problem is not the media, the problem is how Hardy's pr reacted to the whole thing. If more people were open and honest it would stop being news and only then will people stop making a big deal out of it.
Still waiting for that list of gay-positive things Jake has said or done in the past couple of years.
Still waiting for that list of gay-positive things Jake has said or done in the past couple of years.
It is OK if you don't want to criticize JGL, but in that case stop complaining - we have the right not to agree with you.
Looks like a troll is talking to himself and trying to stir up shit.
What are you talking about? About JGL talking shit?
Because we all know that paparazzi work for agencies, and that paparazzi agencies write captions and sell pictures, and gay rumors don't start with pictures of two friends walking down the street. So JGL is talking shit when he says "it just goes to show how those (gay) rumors start — because some bitter guy says something like that" - it's just an excuse to trash paparazzi, and a homophobic one because gay rumors are bad and only bitter people would made them up.
BTW, do you have any argument or comment to offer? No? I thought so.
"Still waiting for that list of gay-positive things Jake has said or done in the past couple of years."
There may not be a long extensive list (you know very well there isn't) but it's no reason to hold him up for dart throwing and a public hanging.
Listen to the video what the guy says at the end is very sweet. I am surprised JGL actually posted the video but i do not know what happened before the video began.
Tom, I've watched it a long time ago and don't remember details, just know that JGL should be ashamed.
@ Destiny,
Come on! You're being unfair and you know it! Everybody knows that you hate on everything Jake does, and at the same time you let your own darlings get away with anything. It's so obvious!
He didn't say gay rumors were bad by themselves, he said that it's wrong to make them up if they are not true to just to make a buck. Don't try to paint the poor paparazzi as saints with only altruistic intentions and being mistreated by movie stars - that's a joke. One of them stated point blank that he didn't care if is was true or not, he feels entitled to a pic because there's a market for it, "people like that stuff" and his own imagination.
I think the point was that JGL would have been more cooperative if these particular guys hadn't been so nasty. He's said he understands the role of paparazzi and seemed tolerant of it, and that many paps are at least civil if not nice when taking pics. I think you can see from the snarly attitude that their approach wasn't that great. I'll see if I can find the quote.
How did the JGL criticism suddenly turn into a comparison between Jake and JGL? "Still waiting for that list..." LOL! What is this? Kindergarten?
Someone keeps insisting that Jake is treated differently than others, today it is Jake vs. JGL. That person insists that if Jake gave the exact same interview, he would be crucified, and has suggested that in fact Jake has not done anything different from JGL. So I think it is only fair that people ask for examples of recent interviews or instances of behavior in which Jake was being gay positive but at the same time said something that some found offensive.
So far the only thing mentioned was Jake getting angry at the paps too, but sorry, I think spitting on paps or trying to run over them leaving a party with the Chin is more offensive than what JGL did.
I think all the critics here make good points about JGL, TH and, of course, "Finding a Good Woman Is Job One" Jake. But can't we balance their disappointing behavior with some sexX? It's August, ffs. Let's fight in September. All I want to do this week is think of Tom Hardy's lips in the vicinity of another male.
:O ---8
Where is the sexX you've promised? They even have all their clothes on! :)

Alicia is gay also….. And that’s no lie…. Hummmmm wonder what’s up wit Beats…

Some people think JGL interviews shouldn't be read carefully ("I don't go through interviews with a fine toothed comb looking for things to say a-ha!"), that we should not criticize JGL ("If you want to criticize JGL, knock yourselves out."), that JGL doing some good things means that we shoud not talk about JGL doing bad things ("Having seen JGL do so many positive things, I'm not going to jump on him for the things others find not to their liking in the Advocate interview.").
In a nutshell, some people think that JGL deserves a special treatment.

Maggie Gyllenhaal having lunch at Cafe Montana in Santa Monica, California – August/05/2010
This film was by far the best romantic comedy I have seen. It’s smart, sexy, raunchy, and hilarious. The chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Hathaway worked very well, and their relationship was very believable. Josh Gad’s character added the raunchy ‘Hangover-esque’ guy type of comedy needed to keep the male half of a couple interested. Writer/Director Ed Zwick’s interpretation of Jamie Reidy’s novel Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagara Salesman translated extremely well to the big screen and made me want to read the book. I know, the movie is never as good. Overall, the film worked, the cast including Platt and Azaria were perfectly picked, and I would totally recommend it.
Hopefully ‘Love and Other Drugs’ does well at the Box Office and causes a trend toward ‘rom-com’s’ that work for both members of the sexes.
I give ‘Love and Other Dugs’ 4 1/2 Stars

Queen Latifah was in town recently promoting her new film “Just Wright” and of course I reminded her that statistics of state the likelihood of Black women finding Mr. Right are very, very slim and should they settle. Before I could finish the word statistics, she shot back, “They lie.” After a subtle giggle she said, “I don’t think anyone should just settle and I don’t. I don’t even read statistics in that sense. I think people should live and do whatever works for you. There’s a big wide world out there and if you go to Africa, your odds get better [Laughs].”
So what about the Queen? Is there a Mr. Right in Latifah’s future? “She’s had four or five Mr. Rights,” she snickers, “and she’s just the runaway bride.”

At least he had good sense not to drive drunk but the worst/LOL part is he'd forget where he left his car the night before so his dad had to literally drive all over L.A. which is not exactly a small town, to all the bars, restaurants and clubs looking for it.

Your opinion, 8:25. Jake can do no wrong.
Opinion??? There is VIDEO. Sorry, you can't sell that made up shit.
The LAOD reviews seem pretty consistent so far in describing the movie. It sounds really good and the roles sound perfect for Jake and Anne.
A new study published in The Social Science Journal looks at each newspaper's coverage of The Gays between 2003-04 and finds:
“The New York Times was inclined to emphasize the topic of human equality related to the legitimization of gay marriage,” writes the research team, led by Po-Lin Pan of Arkansas State University. “The Chicago Tribune highlighted the importance of human morality associated with the gay-marriage debate.”
The researchers analyzed the content of each paper’s coverage of the issue during the year before and the year after the Nov. 18, 2003 Massachusetts ruling that legalized gay marriage in that state. A total of 120 news stories were studied to determine their approach to the topic, the tone of the writing and the types of sources who were quoted.
Their overall conclusion: “The New York Times embraced the issue of human equality, while the Chicago Tribune attempted to emphasize American family values in the debate over gay marriage.” Specifically, 33 percent of sampled stories in the Times focused on equal rights, compared to 19 percent in the Tribune.

LOL there's audio with the video. Listen to it. The car's engine roars and the tires are squealing because Jake is going full acceleration on a small driveway area, while paps are jumping out of the way to not get hit. The paps were incredulous at his behavior. I was too, especially after seeing how nice and accommodating 99.9% of the other celebs were towards the paps, who were welcome to do their job btw, at a CAA sponsored party. I don't know what VIDEO you watched but apparently it had a "Jake does no wrong" filter on it.
while paps are jumping out of the way to not get hit
Nice try 9:06 AM, but there is video to prove you wrong.
The LAOD reviews seem pretty consistent so far
Of course they are, that's the same review that was posted here days ago when it first came out. Nice try, but a week old review from some Joe Blow is not enough to get me talking about "good" Jake.
I'm not 9:06, but I agree about Jake acting like a jerk driving away from that party. There was no reason to be that way; it was an industry party to which paps had clearly been invited to get some buzz for agency and its clients.
Following Wednesday's ruling striking down Proposition 8, Barbra Streisand released this statement of support: "With this judge's decision, we are closer to the day that all people will have access to the same fundamental rights. Hopefully, this remaining civil rights violation will soon be a part of our past and we can look to a future where all people will be treated equally under the law."
Streisand's statement really rubbed playwright and activist Larry Kramer the wrong way, enough so for him to post this searing response on the ACT UP forum:
"Barbra Streisand is a hypocrite. If she had made my play about AIDS, The Normal Heart, in 1986, when she first acquired the rights, only to sit on them for a full ten years without filming it, she could have done something for gay rights when we were really in the sewer of death. But no, she chose to go off and make such vitally important and classic movies as Nuts and The Mirror Has Two Faces. Barbra Streisand cares about gay rights as much as i care about spending a zillion dollars decorating a colony of houses in Malibu. As the mother of a son who is not only gay but HIV positive, she should be ashamed of herself.
Fortunately and at last, an exciting movie version is now being prepared by openly gay director-producer Ryan Murphy (Glee) to star Mark Ruffalo. i hope it will prove that the best thing that happened for The Normal Heart is that Barbra Streisand didn't make it.
I think it is important for all her many gay fans around the world, which certainly had once included me, to know the above.
^^^ Towleroad
I'm not 9:06, but I agree about Jake acting like a jerk driving away from that party.
Aacting like a jerk driving away - yes.
Trying to run over them (paparazzi) leaving a party = attempted manslaughter - NO.
BIG difference.
If Larry Kramer has issues with Streisand he should stick to talking about her and not drag her son and his HIV status into it. That's just wrong.
ITA
Larry Kramer has done a lot of good things, but he can also be a real jerk.
an exciting movie version is now being prepared by openly gay director-producer Ryan Murphy (Glee) to star Mark Ruffalo.
Mark Ruffalo is everywhere these days. I'm glad for him. But there are skeletons in every actor's closet.
- Mark Ruffalo, Mirror, Mirror 2: Raven Dance; Mirror, Mirror 3: The Voyeur
The future Incredible Hulk was in Mirror, Mirror 2: Raven Dance AND Mirror, Mirror 3: The Voyeur, two straight-to-video horror movies about people who get possessed by a mirror. The best(worst) part about it, though, is that Ruffalo plays two completely different people in both movies.
- Leonardo DiCaprio, Critters 3
Leonardo DiCaprio is known for great performances at a very young age, but forget What’s Eating Gilbert Grape; it’s all about Critters 3. Not only was the Critters franchise already a bit of a joke for being an even lower-rent version of Gremlins, but part three, a lazy attempt to make a horror/comedy version of Towering Inferno, was pretty bad even by the franchise’s standards. DiCaprio, unsurprisingly, is pretty decent as the stepson of the abusive apartment landlord, but the rest of the movie is exactly what you'd expect from a straight-to-video movie that was shot back-to-back with Critters 4, which is of course set in space.
source
Fortunately, Jake's made no bad movies.
Is that fortunate, or is it they don't think Jake's enough of a big deal right now to include him on that list?
I like Highway, but it's a straight-to-video movie, right?
10:51AM, I think you hit it.
Jake is a bigger movie star / better known actor than Mark Ruffalo.
9:53 am, why don't you guys/gays post the review from the person on imdb.com (kikokeeree--sp?) who DIDN'T like the movie? He/she actually works in the TV/film industry and made quite a few valid points.He/she does like Jake but felt the film was a mess and not Oscar-caliberish.
kikioreekee-1's LAOD "review" is a poorly-written mess:
"drama? comedy? they dont know. uneven, repetitive, poorly paced.
this suffers from the "trying to fit too much into 2 hours" category.
i wont do any spoilers, but we seem the watch the same scenes over and over,
each written slightly different.
the whole cast is stars, its a wonder this cant stand up. jake and anne are both beautiful, and there is lots of nudity. anne cant seem to keep her shirt on, which is a shame. it wasnt important that i see her breasts over and over again. it made me embarrassed for her. why was this necessary?
jake is great, he needs to work more. i like him a lot. as i do anne. but this movie really sucked. entire parts of it could be left out and it would still be
too long. it just couldnt decide what it wanted to be.
1) romance?
2) a statement about the pharmacrime?
3) a film about parkinsons?
4) a film about a son who doesnt live up to his expectations?
5)comedy?
just bad. lets hope they save this in editing as i was at the screener version."
it just couldnt decide what it wanted to be.

What's to decide, the movie is all that.
?? Are someone's opinions less valid because their review isn't as "polished" as others? I wouldn't describe it as a "poorly-written mess." it may be more stream-of-conscious than other reviews, but it's coherent and thoughtful. Sometimes movies do try to jam too many themes in and sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't The reviewer doesn't seem antagonistic either.
Are someone's opinions less valid because their review isn't as "polished" as others?
Do you read Austin's tweets? Yes, opinions from intelligent people are more valid.
theshep913's review seems dubious to me. His description of the movie is a studio synopsis and the rest is machine-tooled platitudes. "It’s smart, sexy, raunchy, and hilarious." Exactly what the studio would print on the DVD case.

One of my most anticipated films of the year is " Love And Other Drugs". Fox has had three test screenings, and the reviews have been stellar. The last screening was in Kansas City. This guy just reviewed this film, he called it the " best romantic comedy" he has ever seen. I definitely see Anne Hathaway getting another Oscar nomination- every test screening reviewer raved about her performance in " Love And Other Drugs".
http://shep913blog.wordpress.com/2010/07/28/love-and-other-drugs/
etc
I don't think that is the way to build a real buzz, you have to find some interesting angle and sell it. I know they did it with Snakes on a Plane, but don't know details.
I'm a little suspicious too. Does that reviewer in Kansas write about movies regularly? And lol the babblers asking him about Oscar buzz. As if he has a clue.
Do you read Austin's tweets? Yes, opinions from intelligent people are more valid.
I don't think the reviewer sounded unintelligent at all. The form of the review was not as polished, but that doesn't equal unintelligent, it's just a different style.
And lol the babblers asking him about Oscar buzz.'
They're desperate since they feel they were personally "robbed" of the chance to bask in the glory of a huge hit for Jake since PoP didn't deliver. They seem to be under the illusion that if he has a huge hit, it somehow reflects on to them and they'll be celebrating with him, like those in his inner circle, lol.
anne cant seem to keep her shirt on, which is a shame. it wasnt important that i see her breasts over and over again. it made me embarrassed for her.
The reviewer sounds dumb (at best).
I don't see the correlation between an opinion that there is excessive nudity and unintelligence. Since I haven't seen it, I don't know if it's true or not. Sounds like anyone who doesn't rave about LAOD is going to get labeled "dumb."
1:11 PM - a person with average IQ would be embarrassed for an actress doing standard nude scenes (nothing kinky)? I don't think so.
Sounds like anyone who doesn't rave about LAOD is going to get labeled "dumb."
Just dumb people like kikioreekee-1.
1:11 PM - a person with average IQ would be embarrassed for an actress doing standard nude scenes (nothing kinky)? I don't think so.
From what I read, it has nothing to do with kinky or not. It has to do with the amount of time she spends topless. It's not impossible that the nudity is overdone. You really seem to be bothered that this person didn't rave about the movie. I think the movie sounds promising and has the possibility of being a hit, but it's fine with me if someone gives an honest review that's not positive - and you don't have to tell me again that you think the reviewer is dumb, lol. I get that. I just don't agree.
Totally OT, but ROFLMAO

Please READ posts. I'm bothered with adults who write things like this: "it wasnt important that i see her breasts over and over again. it made me embarrassed for her.".
"We met online, we met up at Starbucks and really just hit it off from the beginning. We started hanging out on the weekends, then after work off base. The more time we spent together, the more we realized that we couldn’t be apart. It is really risky to be in a homosexual relationship and be in the military. But once you have found that special someone you realize what really matters in life. There is a great risk, and we both realize that, but the love that we have for each other outweighs that risk. We are stationed at the same place. While I am deployed we try and keep in contact as much as possible. While talking on the phone, we have to speak in code to make sure that no one finds out. We never know who is listening. We mainly connect through personal e-mail."

As a straight I can safely say WE created any bitchy gay culture that's out there and if I were in charge I'd stand up and apologise to them because fundamentally WE are to blame for it. There are NO two ways about it.
If we had treated gay people as equal members of society over centuries, instead of dismissing, humiliating, ridiculing, beating, disowning, pressurising, forcing to closet and feel the need to closet, classing as second class citizens who can pay the same tax dollars but be unable to marry, murdering and basically throwing under the bus because of a few dumb lines in a fairy story called 'the bible', then maybe many gays wouldn't feel the need to have to constantly fight back extra hard and sometimes bitch to make themselves heard. Sure they can go OTT, but straight society created this frankenstein by being a whopping great cunt to The Gay from day one.
If we had treat them right in the first place, the way we'd expect to be treated as straights, we wouldn't be in this craphole of blame culture and outing.
Ann Coulter to Headline Party for Gay Republican Group GOProud
Ann Coulter will headline HomoCon, a September 25th party "celebrating gay conservatives" in NYC.
Writes the group: "Today, GOProud, the only national organization representing gay conservatives and their allies, announced that conservative author Ann Coulter is headlining their first annual Homocon – a party to celebrate gay conservatives. 'The gay left has done their best to take all the fun out of politics, with their endless list of boycotts and protests. Homocon is going to be our annual effort to counter the ‘no fun police’ on the left,' said Christopher Barron, Chairman of the Board of GOProud. 'I can’t think of any conservative more fun to headline our inaugural party then the self-professed ‘right-wing Judy Garland’ – Ann Coulter'....'I can promise you, Homocon 2010 will be a hell of a lot more fun than chaining yourself to the White House fence,' concluded Barron."
GOProud recently inspired protests after defying a boycott of the Manchester Grand Hyatt, The hotel's owner, Doug Manchester, donated $125,000 to the Proposition 8 campaign.
