My dad has a terrible addiction and shoots up at least two times a day. Yeah it's insulin and he's a diabetic and he has all the other stuff that goes with it like heart disease, fluid in his lungs, kidney disease, skin cancer and eye degeneration and he takes Rx pills for those things too in addition to the shots but hey, pills is pills, needles is needles and he's a diehard filthy junkie. /sarcasm

I think Heath was a manic-depressive. There were times he was very very manic and times he was very depressed. It isn't a sin, it is a horrible chemical imbalance. I have a feeling that when he was filming he tended to be more manic. When he wasn't working, people often said he would look homeless. Many people who suffer with this self medicate.
I also think he was very bright and had many talents. I think he got bored easily because he felt unchallenged. I have a friend like that. Can do everything well, so she gets bored and has to move on. I think acting was something that was good for him because he could change from character to character.
He was also a rich man's son. He grew with money and no wants (I'm not talking about emotional wants). He was a pretty face on top of it all. Pretty and rich gets you a lot.
I don't think he meant to die, I just think he wasn't told no that often. I think he thought he knew better and could handle it. Sadly, he was wrong. In the end, he was a human being. No better, no worse.

And about Heath being manic depressive: Maybe but I've known several manic depressives and ALL of them take meds on a regular basis (meds carefully prescribed to them by a doctor) to keep their manic depression under control and lead productive, responsible lives. The lead actor from the soap General Hospital is a manic depressive and has talked about it frequently. He has to take meds otherwise he will lose control.

All this bullshit diagnosis is ridiculous. First of all, the condition hasn't been called "manic depression" for years. It's bipolar disorder and anyone who really knows what they're talking about is aware of that. I have personal knowledge of the illness and it's complicated and not something you can simply diagnose because you saw pictures or read articles or interviews about a celebrity. All this "I have a feeling" stuff is such bullshit. He's dead - leave him alone already.

Heath was never clinical diagnosed as a depressive. He didn't HAVE to take those pills, he medicated himself and suffered the consequences.
Some said he was nervous because the split with MW got ugly and he feared he could lose his child's custody and the press would know it and they'll never leave him alone. Plus the pressure of being in a future blockbuster,etc.etc...
He just got bad luck, but the drug problem was there, nobody can deny it.
Also, now of days, every person who feels angst or anxiety or having some kind of problem think is going under some medical illness and that's such a wrong idea.
We all have problems in life and feeling unhappy and nervous is part of what we are as human beings. Grieve,sadness and worries are part of our lives and we need to learn to cope with it without starting to put toxics in our system.
IF meds are really needed then go to ONE doctor to make both the diagnosis and the treatment.

But as someone who takes paroxetine (sp?) daily and will for the rest of my life, there are some of us who have the chemical inbalance and it helps tremendously. I do not consider my prescription medicine a toxic and really it's not a wise thing to say something like this without having some kind of firsthand knowledge of what it's like to suffer from depression and/or anxiety.
Believe me. I've got firsthand knowledge about it, been through the ringer of tests before the diagnosis was made. And these medicines, when prescribed and used appropriately, do wonders. I'm thankful for mine, I know that.

Well since we're confessing lol I take Wellbutrin, Strattera and Adderall. [And before anyone screams "3 meds?! Too much!" let me say it's the perfect combo for me, and for 15 years I've been going to a doctor who specializes in the chemical side of ADD and depression, he is also a professor at a medical school. Believe me he knows his shit.]

Oh, I know, 12:03. It's scary. I could never just stop cold turkey because I've skipped a few days and I start getting that closed up feeling in my throat again. OK, I'm firmly on Jake's side now. As painful as the joke was, there was a bizarre humor to it that one could laugh with. But 45 seconds later, DSF was probably moving into more clearly antagonistic behavior, at which point the "joke" was not the point at all.
