Jake Gyllenhaal in Source Code
Darkness.

A SOUND slowly builds: the rhythmic rocking of a TRAIN'S WHEELS over RAILROAD TRACKS...

INT. HIGH SPEED TRAIN - MORNING

COLTER jolts awake. Sunlight hits his face.

He blinks. A stunned beat. He's disoriented.

Slowly he turns his head to one side...

PASSENGERS. Filling most of the seats. Office workers on their morning commute into a city.

Turning the other way, he‘s confronted with a window. Trees flash by, splitting the rising sunlight into a hypnotic strobe pattern.

Colter looks to be thirty years old. A military buzz cut. A disciplined physique, lean and spare, almost gaunt. Skin burnished by years of desert sandstorms and equatorial sun. His expression, prematurely aged by combat, is perpetually wary, sometimes predatory, accustomed to trouble.

Despite his military bearing, Colter wears a button down shirt and navy sports coat. On his wrist is a digital watch. It reads 7:40 a.m.

He swallows. A strange, creeping panic.

He has no idea where he is.

You can say that again. Killed the moment? The entire thing up until that point was so vapid and jr. high school. Why are people so afraid of honesty? There was nothing wrong with Nate's question, it certainly wasn't overly personal.

No interviewer or journalist has any right over someone's personal feelings about personal matters

No inquiries about personal feelings or personal matters allowed? So you are saying Nate Berkus had no right to ask Heath that question?

Yet you give yourself permission to endlessly speculate on the public internet about Jake's personal feelings about all kinds of things. His intimate sexual activities. His physical location at any minute of the day. And you do it so bravely, so unashamedly, don't you, Ms Anonymous.

But what you do is not an invasion. As long as you don't say anything or ask anything to Jake's face, all kinds of personal digging and speculating is fine.

A reasonable question by an accredited reporter at a professional industry event is not fine, however. A straightforward question that Jake has the fair option of answering or not, that he can defend himself against if he chooses, is not allowed.

'No interviewer or journalist has any right over someone's personal feelings about personal matters.' You make me laugh. Asking a personal question does not mean a journalist has violated 'a right'. As long as the question is polite and reasonable, it means they are doing their job. The person being asked can decline to answer. It's called journalism.

If you ran the world, Oprah, The View, Diane Sawyer, 60 Minutes, People magazine - even the New York Times- wouldn't exist. Funny thing, it's thanks to all those personally invasive journalists that you know the shit you know about poor Jake. Hypocrite.

If he wants to remain silent, he can always say "I'd prefer not to talk about that, thank you." Easy as pie. No one can force him if he doesn't want to.

You seem to think he can't be treated like a normal adult. Celebrities are coddled divas who get their asses kissed 24/7. You don't have to buy in to that brownnosing, you know. What I respect are (the few) interviewers and journalists who respectfully cut through the bull.

How dare anyone put Jake in an on-the-spot uncomfortable situation by asking about Heath! Unlike someone like Michelle, who probably gets asked by Matilda every day where her Daddy is.

Yes, how inconvenient for the man child to remember his fallen co-star--someone with whom he will FOREVER be linked to by virtue of being paired together in an iconic film--when nearly EVERYONE who Heath worked with in TDK and the Dr. Parnassus film as well as people from other films (i.e. Matt Damon) has commented publicly and in Damon's case, with heartfelt sincerity and genuine emotion over the loss of Heath. It's TWO YEARS LATER--time to man up and stop acting like a coddled child. Jake's pain (whether it exists or not) is NOT greater than that of Heath's parents and best friends--it isn't. I find it annoying at this point and kudos for Nate for voicing what a lot of fans have wanted to ask Jake about Heath since Heath's passing.

Sorry Jake but Anne Hathway or Natalie Portman or TObey are NOT your most important co-star. Time to grow up and be an adult and stop acting like an evasive child.

Is It Possible To Be Gay In Hollywood?

Rumors have circulated that a star would be on the cover of The Advocate and finally announce himself as gay. I knew who it would be, he has been toying with the idea for years. Sean Hayes may not be the huge star that you thought it would be, but in my book this makes him a star.

In a world where people are so close minded that people have to actually put on a show to keep a job in this business, this is a ray of light. Though a small one, Hayes should be thought of as brave man. No matter whether you are a working actor or a has been, it takes a lot of guts to come out of the closet.

I would hope that this little movement would actually make people see that coming out as gay isn't the nail in your coffin. Look at Neil Patrick Harris, he will always be known as Doogie Howser M.D, that smart kid that somehow became a doctor. He was forced out of the closet by a certain douche bag, but he took lemons and made lemonade. He soared to success as a womanizer on How I Met Your Mother and the gay label has not affected him at all. Would he have been considered to play Prince Of Persia or a lead in a romantic movie? No, and that is what keeps major stars from coming out.

It has nothing to do with the actual star. Most of us want to come out, want to leave an honest life and not lie to the people that have pretty much made our careers, the fans. But a lot of us have dreams of being a HW success and coming out about our sexuality puts a limit on our success. Many stars have come out, but not one star that you have waited for or suspected.

Just once, would it be possible for an A-List star to admit that they are gay and still maintain the same amount of success? Let's say hypothetically that Tom Cruise came out. Would you still go to see his huge blockbuster with him saving the world, acting all macho and kissing girls? Or if by some chance, Jake Gyllenhaal came out as gay. Prince Of Persia would never have happened with him because the gay image would be in people's head. Not only that, studios would never use an outspoken homosexual as one of their action leads. It's unheard of and if you ask the studios, never going to happen.

And now that stars have put so much effort into putting the image out that you expect, if they were to come out as gay it is possible the backlash could ruin them. If you have always seen them with a woman, or a girlfriend, or even if they have kids, learning that this whole time they were gay, would ruin your perception of them. They would have to admit that everything you believed about them and saw, was a lie.

In general, it's not just the stars fault, nor does it lay on the studio's shoulders. The studios still believe middle America is the consensus and that the world isn't ready for a gay movie star/action hero. But everyone's image of gay is so strewn that people have no idea and think of all gays as rainbow riding fairies. I have news for you, gays come in all shape, sizes and personalities. And it makes you think why we should label ourselves to begin with. We are human, all of us. Isn't that enough?

Cont. said...

We have asked you who you thought of as "Definitely Gay" in HW. These are the popular answers:

•Taylor Lautner
•Tom Cruise
•Jensen Ackles

With these being 3 of the most popular star right now, give or take a little with Jensen, it seems everyone has their mind made up about them already. Tom Cruise has been thought to be gay for his entire career, which has not made the slightest bit of difference when it comes to his box office income.

Seems to me that Hollywood should realize that no one is stupid. We think of a lot of our stars as gay anyway, but we still go and see their movies. It's called acting for a reason and as long as the movie can entertain us, we will go and see it. But if the movie is shit, gay or not, it's going to bomb. We need a A-Lister to come out and start a revolution. Any ideas?

LOL. Babblers are nothing if not transparent. And there's an interesting dichotomy among them; some don't want Heath and Jake to have ever really been good friends ("tainted" you know)and use that as the excuse for his silence; and others try to use the excuse that he's "grieving" too much - as if his pain is greater than anyone else's.

Sean Hayes needed a little cheap publicity to re-ignite his stalled career. The Advocate article is about as interesting as watching paint dry. It's a little like Reality TV in print.

It’s the new campaign: make McJakey happen!

And it sounds like you’re all over it too. Well...most of you. The McGoslings can’t move on. And they hit me hard with hate yesterday. Here’s a sample from Linda in Calgary:

Stop pushing that stupid idiot Jake Gyllenhale on Rachel. Rachel and Ryan belong together, you will see. Sometimes people just need time apart to figure things out and they will end up together in the end. So sick of you making fun of everything. I don’t care if you laugh and mock. What’s right is right and what’s real is real. You were a fan of Rachel and Ryan, how can you turn on something so quick? I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to support Canada’s love story. Are you just jealous because you want Ryan to yourself? Newsflash Lainey. You are ugly and disgusting and Ryan would never choose you before the most perfect person for him. So give it up!

The problem for Linda and her fellow lunatics however is that even the Mighty Opes seems to be endorsing our new favourite imaginary couple. Thanks to all of you who sent in the video from yesterday’s Oprah Winfrey Show. It’s Jakey and Rachel backstage and he’s holding her purse and she’s looking at him with light in her eyes and it’s so f-cking cute and there’s a fangirl in me who can’t get enough.

Click here to watch their interview with Nate Berkus until he kills the moment with a question about Heath Ledger. Jake was gracious and handled it beautifully and hopefully afterwards they played the awkward, um, like, when will I see you again game, and touched hands accidentally and pulled them away, and thought about each other all night afterwards.

Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times, yes, and here's why:

1. He's an actor, he should be able to play any role whatsoever.

2. I personally have no problem getting lost in the story that a good director, screenplay and actors want to tell, regardless of who they are in their real lives.

Rachel McAdams: Jake Gyllenhaal's Baby Mama?

Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams were spotted having a “prolonged conversation” in the lobby of the Kodak Theatre, according to People.

He even introduced her to a friend, saying, “This is Rachel McAdams, she’s the mother of my child!”

Earlier in the evening at the 2010 Oscars, the duo presented the award for Best Adapted Screenplay to screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher for Precious.

Over the weekend, Jake was seen flirting with G4’s Olivia Munn.

More scoop for you on Jake Gyllenhaal and Olivia Munn's hangout sesh over the weekend.

The two were seen talking for a while at Weinstein's pre-Oscar party Saturday night, seeming more friendly than flirty. And while we thought the pair was totally random, we're told that Jake and Olivia may be getting together again soon...

The Prince of Persia actor and G4 host first met Saturday at the Night Before pre-Oscars party, at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

A source tells E! News a mutual friend of Olivia and Jake's introduced the pretty pair. Who? Jamie Foxx.

"Once they met, Jake didn't leave her side the entire night," says an eyewitness to the seemingly odd couple. "They looked like they were having fun, both laughing a lot."

Afterward, Munn left first for Weinstein's party at Soho House, and Jake followed with a crew of a few guy-pals in tow.

That's where they were spotted chatting on the rooftop patio for part of the party, where Jake dished he was hitting the Oscar party circuit to celebrate sister Maggie Gyllenhaal's nomination and just to hang with his friends.

Hmmm, but was J.G. just trying to elude prying eyes in order to have a little private party with Miss Munn later on? As if!

"Nothing happened romantically," says an insider close to the situation.

However, our potential love spy 'fesses that Olivia and Jake exchanged numbers and plan to hang out again soon.

"He's definitely single and wants to date girls," stresses the source.

Say it ain't so! Is Jake on the prowl for another Reese Witherspoon? We so prefer single Gyllenhaal—no coffee dates and just those sexy smiles for days!

With his letdown Prince of Persia flick coming out soon, Jake's going to need some female arm candy. Just wonder if Olivia's up for being his babe of choice?

Actually Jake is torn between trying to look like a man who doesn't need a beard (young Clooney sans bimbette) and a man who used to have a beard that his fan-target base actually believed to be genuine (repentant, reluctant faker forced into a difficult arrangement for professional reasons).

The former strategy is for his straight female and male fans, and the latter strategy is for his gay-male fans. Lesbians don't care.

I wonder why Oprah didn’t air the part with the question. The Jake/Rachel plant from People sounds suspicious, maybe Jake panicked re being asked about Heath and they decided they needed a story to kill that little quote Nate got for him (as lame as it was) i.e. a diversion. Not to mention that the Jake/Rachel bs is straight PR, something Jake seems to be desperate for what with PoP approaching. Two birds with one stone.

LOL. Is this before or after the beard audition where they prove they can open doors on their own and are able to distract Jake's gaze from Paris Fountain Boys?

Did someone else have the impression that Jake was angered that the interviewer with his question diverged attention from Maggie and her nomination? Jake quickly changed the subject to her and her nod. Perhaps that's also what seemed to anger him about the question?

OMG I just had an awful thought. What if Rachel McAdams is pregnant (by another guy) and Jake's going to marry her and pretend it's his, a la the Katie Holmes/Tom Cruise/Chris Klein saga?

LOL Jake's PR is probably looking for a desperate but classy, 2-3 months pregnant blonde actress who isn't going to marry or admit to who the father is.

ITA. Perhaps his PR is trying to get a feel for public opinion before they pick the next beard. After all, one of the biggest problems for Reeke from day 1 was that everyone kept saying how they had no chemistry and looked awkward together.

Rachel is deffo getting a lot of applause from JIS fans.

I don't think so. Jake used Maggie to say something coherent and avoid talking more about Heath.

Anonymous said...

He obviously still feels the loss of Heath. If you read stories about him, he is emotional. He tears up and cries. Talking about his parents, a song, etc.

My cousin died 8 years ago. I usually tear up when I talk about her. We weren't bff's, but the loss was strong and painful. My pain isn't the worst. She left small children and a husband and parents. But, when I'm somewhere where she should be, but isn't, i feel it. Heath should've been there.

I think he wants to keep his feelings private and I think when he talks about Heath he gets emotional.

I don’t think Jake was angry, to me he seemed shocked and fumbling for words.

He brought up Maggie's nod in relation to Heath because as a winner he would’ve presented in the category she was nominated in. Jake is not very articulate but that’s what he’s trying to say, he finishes with something like "he would’ve presented but he’s not here". Duh!

7:24 PM # 1 and 7:25 PM, you're maybe right.

People may disagree but I still say Rachel McAdams looks a lot like Reese in those Oscar pics. When did she turn blonde btw? Wasn't she always brunette? The way her hair was pulled back and heavily streaked with blonde, her makeup, the upper bodice style of the dress... I might be wrong but I swear she's being groomed to be the next beard. This time PR/Jake chose someone younger, no baggage, not a PR whore (yet), and more importantly, someone who desperately needs the name and face exposure "dating" Jake can bring. Rachel McAdams is basically unknown outside of The Notebook and Ryan Gosling fans; she needs to up her profile and IMO bearding with Jake is going to be the quick fix.

Anonymous said...

There will be no bearding with Rachel, I'm sure Jake will take a break from faking.

Anonymous said...

I hope Jake doesn't beard again, but it would be funny to see how Reese handles being replaced by a much younger, prettier, kid-free, sexier, nicer "gf" who doesn't have a soccer mom body or Avon to sell.

Nah, there is no reason for Jake to ruin his life like that.

Jake and Rachel : trial balloon and it's working.

I think he wants to keep his feelings private and I think when he talks about Heath he gets emotional.

That could be, but it wouldn't explain why he couldn't have issued a statement when Heath died instead of completely ignoring it. We can keep going round and round with reasons, excuses, etc., but he's not the only sensitive soul in the universe or the only one who was grieved.

Anonymous said...

Because he couldn't put in the statement what he really wanted to say. I think that silence was a good choice.

Anonymous said...

Actually to the general public Jake's non-statement comes off as hatred and indifference for Heath and the work they did together, not love and friendship. Kinda like "If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all." And since Jake said nothing....

Anonymous said...

There is no reason for general public to presume hatred or indifference, why would general public presume that Jake is a bad person?

Wonder why Jake Gyllenhaal didn't say anything about Heath's untimely passing? He probably couldn't stand him. They probably hated each other when they made that gay movie.

Just watched the Nate/Jack video again and Jake was more than surprised. He actually looked a little panic stricken at first. As soon as Nate said that he knew he and Heath were good friends, Jake says "Uh huh" and he completely freezes up.

Poor Jake. Will we get to see Jake's face when someone asks him about Matilda?

Sorry, but that just sounds like an excuse to me. Are you saying that in order for him to say what he really wanted to say it had have been in person and not through a statement? And he didn't feel capable of doing that, so he just decided to do nothing? That doesn't make sense. If Heath meant so much to him that words alone couldn't convey it, then he should've sucked it up somehow instead of doing nothing. What sets Jake apart from everyone else? Why was everyone else capable of issuing statements or speaking in public and not him?

I would do the same in Jake's shoes, there is nothing special or wrong about Jake's silence.

Well, since you don't actually know why he's been silent, I don't know how you can say you'd do the same. And if there was nothing special about his silence, it wouldn't be so conspicuous, which it is.

I don't see anything conspicuous about not wanting to share your feelings with the whole world.

Nate did seem taken with Jake. He did not ask Rachel a single question. I think he was trying to bond with Jake by speaking to him honestly. He had experienced grief himself. Too bad he's not Jake's type. They would be a cute couple. But Jakey loves a certain very tall Texan.

Jake Gyllenhaal And Olivia Munn? Please

So now everyone wants us to believe that Jake Gyllenhaal's new "hook-up" is going to be Olivia Munn. They were talking all night and they exchanged numbers. But lets look at the facts.

Jake's history of dating alone shows us that this probably will not happen. She is not an actress and she is not going to be co-staring with him in any of his films. Also, Jake has more of a weakness for petite blondes.

"He's definitely single and wants to date girls," stresses the source to E! Really? Really? I like the fact that they had to throw girls into the sentance but let's be honest here. If Jake and Olivia do hang out anytime soon, it will be as friends, not lovers. Anyone watching them that night saw that they were it was a friendly banter, well except for JG's people who saw a new story to spin. Not are they the ones who are issuing the statements about Jake wanting to date again, but they are the ones who have chosen Olivia as his new leading lady.

And everything about his silence and this interview begs the question - Why is everyone else who knew Heath able to talk about him except for Jake? It's just plain odd.

Very odd.

By the way, repeating that Jake has the right to say nothing, as 9:41PM does, is a strawman/specious argument that should be ignored.

No one has ever questioned Jake's RIGHT to stay silent. O course he has that right. Just as he has the right to sleep with whomever he chooses, love whomever he chooses, and give the finger to whomever he chooses.

That inalienable RIGHT hasn't stopped babblers, TBs, Independents (lol-there must be some) from speculating/approving/disapproving his love life, so why should it stop people from approving/disapproving or speculating about his relationship with Heath. (Which is looking stranger and stranger the longer Jake treats it like a huge taboo subject.)

Jake has the right to stay silent forever. But equally, people have the right to wonder why.

Who cares what you would do. (Though I think you are lying about how you would treat the death of a colleague. You would actually never, ever say a public word about them? Incredibly selfish, if true. My, if only everyone would treat the passing of comrades that way, think how comforting it would be for their family and friends.)
