LOL @ "super couple".

So much of the preceding is goo-laden with mopey guitars and adorable kid shots, Jim Sheridan’s dual faults as a director. Still, shouldn’t we expect fireworks when an emaciated, paranoid Sam confronts the family he can no longer connect to? There’s an unwillingness to deliver the payoff; Brothers feels less like the Oscar-bait cinema we expect this time of year as much as an ersatz version that requires you to fill in the gaps. (The nearness of the recent The Messenger doesn’t help.) We’re supposed to creep up to the idea that war can steal more from a person than life and limb. That can’t be conveyed in a few simple scenes of kitchen histrionics. Sheridan brings on U2’s chords of healing way too soon.

Reese Witherspoon Focuses on Domestic Violence

Leaving behind the chatter about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal, Reese Witherspoon tackled the topic of domestic violence in the U.K. this week.

Petitioning Members of Parliament and appearing on morning shows she asked people to speak out on an issue that affects one in three around the world.

Everybody here is talking as if the split is official. I think PR is only testing waters and bringing some free publicity for Jake and Reese current shitty activities.

Reeke is not going to end soon, they are not random celebrities.Reese may not be what she once was and Jake still needs a huge hit to be considered a major star but their level of fame is very high in general.
Why ending the charade when they most need it? And in such clumsy way?
I don't understand all this crap....

Meredith Baxter: 'I'm a Lesbian Mom'

"Before Baxter, 62, first started dating women seven years ago, the thought of being gay "had never crossed my mind," she tells PEOPLE. Having been in three failed marriages to men (most famously to actor David Birney), she says of her many difficult years before coming out, "I was never comfortable with myself." But she's quick to add, "That doesn't mean I was questioning."

Anonymous said...

I'm glad she doesn't claim to be bisexual.

Look, I applaud her for being out but she has to stop the bullshit of "I suddenly became gay" .
Nobody goes to play for the other team in one day from another, casual sexual experiences with same sex are usual, but sexuality is not something that comes and goes

well, I guess she doesn't want to hurt her ex - husbands feelings too much.
She looks wonderful for her age, btw.

"Gyllenhaal, as the brother left to clean up the mess, again proves he's one of the finest actors working today, with a turn that flirts with many levels of melodrama but always stays at a realistic keel. When he reminds Sam at various stages, "I'm your brother," he delivers it fully loaded with subtext — sometimes as comfort, other times as an accusation.

Maguire and Portman were both blessed with preternatural emotive ability at an early age but have struggled to play adults. Here Portman takes a step toward believability as a parent, while Maguire chews up the screen as the proud offspring of a military man. Maguire's presence, whether trance-like, hesitantly warm or explosively dangerous, fills every room he enters. — Justin Strout"

"Brothers is arguably the most successful remake of a foreign film since Martin Scorsese reworked Infernal Affairs into The Departed and won the Oscar. By remaining rigorously faithful to Susanne Bier's 2004 Danish feature, Brodre, screenwriter David Benioff and director Jim Sheridan manage to retain the themes and psychological nuances of the original while opening it up to a wider English-speaking audience. Subtle differences in the way the actors interpret the characters and small omissions, additions, and changes allow Brothers to stand on its own. This is a powerful, disturbing film that explores common cinematic territory - the ability of war to destroy the individual - without seeming clichéd or familiar

Brothers is defined by strong performances, as is necessary for any drama of this magnitude to achieve success. Natalie Portman, once deemed to be one of cinema's finest child actors, has floundered in recent years with unremarkable appearances in films like The Other Boleyn Girl, Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, and Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. In Brothers, she recaptures the consistency and ability to inhabit a character that has defined her best work. Tobey Maguire, who is essentially forced to play two different parts, has the film's most challenging role and rises to the occasion. No one will think of him as Peter Parker here, even though that alter-ego looms large over his career. Jake Gyllenhaal is also solid as Tommy, who has his own demons to fight - albeit ones not as monstrous as Sam's. Excellent support is provided by Sam Shepard as the military Dad whose past has laid the seeds for the present, and Bailee Madison and Taylor Geare, two of the screen's most unaffected recent child actors. LOL!! The What went wrong People story is nothing but a re-print of what's online under: Jake and Reese's up's and downs. It's padded fanfic: she was working out in a gym over the weekend and told friends that it was over, then they have the reps. denial then another friend that said that they are still together for now, blah, blah. Basically they claim that they have hit a rough patch and it's up in the air if they will get through it, zzzzzz.

They mention the times they have broken up before, usually marriage related and even threw in a time earlier this year.

US debunks People.com and says that a friend says that everything is fine and dandy, no problems.

I didn't even bother checking out OK, it was bad enough I wasted part of my lunch on that crap.

I get why Jake doesn't want to talk about his private life, i.e. his relationship (whatever kind it is) with Reese. But I wonder if interviewers bring up Heath? If not, maybe Jake requests also no questions about him? Because it's interesting, almost every co star has talked about him repeatedly in interviews. Abbie Cornish i.e. in a recent interview again.

Apropos Abbie Cornish. She'll probably be nominated for an Oscar next year. And she and Ryan seem to be fine. If Reese and Jake are done indeed, Reese must be PISSED.

Why?

When everything is fine you talk about it. But I don't think Reeke is as stable as some/many wish they were. Jake probably knows this too, so he is silent. Because with Reeke you can never know. The whole thing could be over tomorrow, because it's superficial, nothing deep and meaningful (for those who believe it's real, that is).

Why are you ignoring the fact that beard talked about "the relationship"?

She probably would have talked much more, but Jake probably said she should try to be more low key about it. From the beginning Reeke threatened to overshadow Jake's professional life and it did partly. I think he didn't mind it at first, maybe even enjoyed the attention, but I think he got tired of it, since Reeke overexposure backfired. She, as ditzy as she seems, wouldn't have noticed that, Jake did. JMO.

Natalie Portman On Getting Drunk, Smoking Pot said...

Natalie Portman, everywhere now thanks to the release of her new film "Brothers," is also in the new issue of Marie Claire. A condensed version of the interview is online, and at the very end the Harvard grad explains how sheltered her life has been since she's worked from a young age.

She argues she was a late social bloomer because of her work:
"OK, so I didn't really go to high school parties," she says, "and yeah, I didn't touch pot till I was in my 20s. I didn't get flat-out drunk until I went to college. But I think that's a good thing in many ways."

Portman also explains how "Brothers" costar made it easier for the vegetarian to be vegan.

Tobey Maguire brought his own vegan chef to the set. "I was like, 'Um, could you make two of those?'" She grins. "And I'd make a cute face, and they'd roll their eyes and give me another falafel." Portman also wrote of her veganism for Huffington Post, read it here.

oh, yeah, because the relationship with Heath was going to last forever, right?
plllease, not even she thought she was gonna keep him, therefore the pregnancy and the pity party before & after H's death.

Reese talked about Jake in interviews simply because she couldn't help herself, babbling on her "cute/perfect" life is part of what she is as a person and as a celebrity. I bet the bearding contract established a very low key profile but Chin's adittion to fame was stronger and she kinda screwed it up.

Maybe now, with all the Reese's fuck up Jake is the one with the power in this showmance.
Who knows...perhaps this is th ebegining of a new bearding era...
it should be interesting ;)

Anonymous said...

Reese talked about Jake in interviews simply because she couldn't help herself

Reese is cold and calculated, and publicity and fake public image are her reasons for bearding.

Reese talked about Jake because she needs a perfect boyfriend for her "I have it all" image and because the fauxmance is the only interesting thing about her (as we could see from Reese's tabloid and magazine covers).

KCRW Radio said...

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal was heavily influenced by his parents’ musical tastes and repaid the favor with a Guest DJ set dedicated entirely to family – from the folk song that his dad sang him to sleep to the live track that makes him sob on set. He also puts his performer hat on, with a host of great imitations – including a few of Director Jim Sheridan, who directed him in the new film “Brothers.”

Tracks
1.) Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - The River (Live)
2.) Burl Ives - The Fox
3.) Danny Kaye - Inchworm
4.) Saint-Saëns - Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso
5.) Loudon Wainwright III - A Father and a Son

Transcript
Liza Richardson: Hi, I’m Liza Richardson from KCRW, and I am here with actor Jake Gyllenhaal. We will be playing excerpts of songs that have inspired him over the years as part of KCRW’s Guest DJ Project. How’s it going, Jake?

Jake Gyllenhaal: Good

LR: What did you bring to play today?

JG: I brought a few songs that have inspired me in different ways. Some in the car, some on set -- a movie set, and some in bed.

LR: Those are the categories. Which one of these do you listen to on the set?

JG: Actually, I just did this movie with Jim Sheridan called “Brothers” and randomly he picked this song “The River,” by Bruce Springsteen. He picked the live version. During rehearsals he would play it, and then he would play it on set too to get us in the mood of the scene, or he would play it in the middle of the scene. And so there’s this scene in the film where my brother has died and I am with his wife. We don’t get along very well, but as the movie has progressed we’ve started to get along better. We’re sitting together in front of a fire and we end up kissing at the end of the scene, which makes the movie very complex, and Jim decided to play this song, play “The River.”

Song: “The River (live)” by Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band

JG: And what he did after that was he kept the music rolling and Natalie Portman, who plays my brother’s wife in the movie, she leaves the scene. Jim kept the film rolling on and on and on and I just kept listening to this song and by the end of this take, I just start to cry and cry, I couldn’t stop crying. I think a lot of it has to do with, it’s connection to my family, listening to Bruce Springsteen when I was a kid with my dad. My first concert I ever went to was the Born in the USA tour concert and I remember being with my father. I just think the story between father and son and the complications between those two positions in a family has always been a huge thing in my life. That’s also the heart of the movie I was making with Jim Sheridan.

LR: So that’s “The River,” it’s the choice of our guest DJ, Jake Gyllenhaal, and it’s by Bruce Springsteen. So what’s the next thing?

JG: I would pick “The Fox” and this version is by Burl Ives. My father used to sing this to me -- and I love Burl Ives just as a character, just as a musician -- and when I was a little kid we were robbed outside of our house. We were driving home, we pulled up and we were robbed and ever since I was always really nervous about falling asleep, you know, naturally, and so my dad would sing this to me before I’d go to bed.

Song: “The Fox” by Burl Ives

JG: My father, has this guild guitar, which he still has, beautiful kind of mahogany color, and again it comes back to my father who was a big musical influence on me when I was a kid and continues to be. There are songs that I remember listening to in the car with my dad, you know, coming back from baseball or even just him throwing me in the car and being like, ‘You gotta hear this song! You gotta hear this song!’ He’s very animated with his hands and *starts to imitate his father’s voice* he wants me to hear this one part right here!

LR: *laughs*

LR: So that’s “The Fox,” an excerpt from “The Fox,” it’s by Burl Ives, the choice of our Guest DJ, Jake Gyllenhaal

KCRW Radio said...

JG: So I would say “Inchworm,” would be my next choice because Danny Kaye was and is still a HUGE influence on me as an actor and a performer. I just watched him so much when I was a kid and he had this love of entertaining, I think I’ve heard also about him this real love of children and caring for them, and you can tell that it in this song

Song: “Inchworm” by Danny Kaye

JG: Just like, wonderful, wonderful movies, “Five Pennies,” and “The Court Jester,” and then “Hans Christian Anderson,” which this song is from. My mother was a big Danny Kaye fan and would always play me these movies. She is, in fact, the person who always calls me up and is like, *imitating his mother’s voice* ‘You should redo “The Court Jester!’

LR: *laughs*

LR: So that’s “Inchworm,” a part of it anyway, it’s by Danny Kaye, it’s the choice of our guest DJ, Jake Gyllenhaal. So Jake, what’s next?!

JG: Are you on pins and needles?

LR: I am, I can’t wait to find out.

6:41 “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso,” by Saint-Saëns

JG: This is “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso,” by Saint-Saëns, it’s the Philadelphia Orchestra with Sarah Chang. I just imagine the finger work of this soloist and people who play fretless instruments always boggle me. I’m always am amazed like, ‘That has no frets?!’ *laughs* And this in particular, I’m taken so many places with this song. It really broke me out as a kid into the emotions and the intensity of classical music. This is another one of those things where I just remember being in the car and this is something that my father played me, and he’s *imitates his father’s voice* ‘Listen how the violin just dances on top of all the orchestra and then when the orchestra comes in…!’ You know, it’s so intense this song

Song: “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso,” by Saint-Saëns

LR: That is “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso,” by Saint-Saëns and it is the choice of our guest DJ, Jake Gyllenhaal. I believe you have one more.

JG: My last one is called “A Father and A Son,” by Loudon Wainwright III. Although it’s called “A Father and A Son,” it was actually played for me by my mother first. Loudon Wainwright is extraordinary. Rufus is a friend of mine and I think he’s extraordinary.

LR: He’s amazing

JG: - as is Martha. Alice, too.

LR: I don’t know her.

JG: She has this beautiful song that’s on her MySpace page. She actually was my sister’s nanny. This song somehow encompasses, I guess, what I was saying about family. At the very end, Loudon Wainwright says “Maybe its hate, probably its love.” Man, *chuckles*, that sort of says it. And I think, somehow, the fact that he’s the patriarch of this family that is so kind of extraordinary is something to look up to, something to admire. They are, I know at least publically, they have complications and are open about it and it’s wonderful because we all try and pretend like everything’s ok, or that things are perfect or try to make them the way they’re ‘supposed to be,’ quote unquote, and I think this song is really about him being as honest as he can about his relationship with his son and just loving him deeply.

Song: “A Father and A Son,” by Loudon Wainwright III

KCRW Radio said...

JG: Jim Sheridan would always liken everything back to his family. He’d say to me one day, *imitates Jim Sheridan* ‘Jake! You know, you’re playing my brother in this movie so I’m gonna hate ya today. You know, this scene reminded me about my brother and I’m gonna hate ya today!’

I believe there are few things in life that you can guarantee are important and family is one of them. That’s what “Brothers” is about, that’s what a lot of these songs are about for me, and that’s what hopefully my life will be about. So, there ya go, 5 songs, man!

LR: Awesome! So that was “Father and Son,” it was by Loudon Wainwright III and it’s the choice of our guest DJ, Jake Gyllenhaal. Thank you! That was fantastic!

JG: Thank you, that was really fun.

LR: Thank you for joining us on KCRW.com. For a complete track listing and to find these songs online go to KCRW.com/GuestDJProject

This Week In Tabloids

OK! Magazine:
Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal are "taking a break." Jake is reluctant to live a "middle-aged lifestyle" what with the two kids and the farm and whatnot. They came to an agreement to spend some times apart and reconnect in a couple of weeks and see how they feel.

In Touch Weekly:
Reese and Jake are being torn apart because he's very serious about marriage and children and wants to "make things official" but Reese never gives in. Maggie Gyllenhaal is trying to reunite them.

Star Magazine:
Reese Witherspoon had 40 people over for Thanksgiving and after eating they all sat around the piano and sang. Jake Gyllenhaal was a no-show, and "everyone was told not to mention his name." Reese and Jake broke up because he wants to get married someday, but felt that Reese was pushing him into it — he got freaked out and said he wasn't ready for such a commitment.

7:27, pm. Thanks for posting all of these CONFLICTING stories. My head is splitting as to what to believe. Jake wants to get married; Jake doesn't want to get married or live a "middle aged" lifestyle.

I want to believe Star mag because it's the nastiest and yes I believe in schadenfreude where Reeke are concerned. Shoot me.

Anonymous said...

Well Reeke PR covered all the bases with the tabloids. If Reeke breaks up there are the reasons but they make Jake look like the bad guy. If Reeke shows up for the next photo op holding hands, their break is over and Reese decided to take Jake back. However it plays out, Reeke PR already laying the ground work for Jake to be the bad guy. LOL at Maggie trying to get them back together. Now we can guess what the 2 weekends in Brooklyn were about. Reese showing how well she gets along with Maggie so she could use Maggie in future PR stories.

And don't forget the People Jake and Reese up and down stoty and the Us magazine story where everything is perfect and the People story is a lie! I think that is the first time I saw a rag call out another rag.

Anonymous said...

Is US bought and paid for?? Jeez.

Anonymous said...

Us always did more Reeke stories than any other rag. It almost looks like their reps are playing Us and People against each other, they could care less about the other rags like Ok, and In Touch.

People has them hanging on by a thread and Ussays they are fine, the other fanfic in the other rags is beyond laughable.

I bet if their is another anouncement from their reps:break-up, engagement, etc. Uswill get the exclusive.

People is always getting scooped.

Example: They both had Tiger Woods on their cover, people played it safe and did a story that was alreasy known..

Us got a hold of the other Ho he was messing with, who wins: Us.

Us also doesn't seem to care aout pissing of certain mouthpieces like Leann Reames and that video of her and Eddie Cibran. Do you think People would post that? They would have caled her reps and negociated dome cover story, Us just posted the video on their site.

Their Tiger story made him fess up his screwing around. This is the rag that has the Jake and Reese are fine and People is full of shit story.

They know what they are doing. People has egg on their faces because they were used, that's why their story on them wasn't an actual break-up.

The first sign that it was a plant: People never bothered to say that they at least tried to contact their reps to see if it was kegit becasue the reps were the ones that planted the story.

Also they never gave a readon for the break-up, only after and even then it consisted of quotes from the break-up story that they did backmin 2007 and was padded with new BS.

They were probably told that we will get back to you with more but instead went to all the other outlets to deny. They used People because they knew the news would get out aster, they really have no use for them, they probably consider them "safe"

Anonymous said...

So if we go with your theory 9:27pm, everything in Reeke paradise is wonderful and they will be together for a long time. So why the original tip to People?

Jake has been mum about Reese from day one. He's not a good liar face to face. Stand in the photo and try not to look bored, yes, but he cant reign in his true nature when speaking. This does not make bearding more acceptable, but helps keep him sane and Disney happy.

From an article about Rupert Everett and coming out "Coming-out PR guru Howard Bragman (who took actress Meredith Baxter out today) just commented about the interview to me: "As I read it, the important part of what Rupert said wasn't about actors and opportunities. It was at the end where he said that, despite the professional opportunities he was denied, he was a happier person. And I can tell you that of all the many, many actors I have taken out of the closet, not one has ever regretted the decision to live their life honestly. Whether it hurts an actor, I always tell people that may be what happens, and they have to measure their personal happiness against their potential career. There may well have been other reasons Rupert didn't become the leading man he imagined himself going to be. But this isn't about your bank account. This is about your soul."

IMO, I think the "split" story was planted by PR because the lie of this showmance started to show how fake it is. Lots of posters in diferent gossip sites noticed how it could be possible that Reeke stays the same through all this years. Sometimes, even when i visit WFT2 on a daily basis, i have the feeling all this charade started just yesterday, because is like reeke still is in the beginings of their "romance". They never seemed they were taking things further (appart of the too obviosly planted PR's stories.) So, the "taking a break" and the "bumps" on the road are meant to make this faux a little more credible. Of course, as always, it only makes Reeke look dumber and stupidly fake. But,let's be fair, not even the best PR in the world could make this two look as a real couple.

Maguire, Gyllenhaal and especially Portman (at last a truly womanly beauty) do perhaps their most mature, subtle work so far. The Danish film was more melodramatic and sexual, and we could see its themes being stacked up. Sheridan seems more concerned to draw a pure line of emotional development through his actors. And they come through, including Clifton Collins Jr. as a major, Sam Shepard as the brothers’ drinking father, a Vietnam veteran, and Carey Mulligan, the terrific discovery of “An Education,” in one fine scene as a widow.

It is very professionally well-done yet even the edgiest episodes, like the supper where one of the cute girls makes everyone tighten their nerves, feel like appointments with a good script. There isn’t the risky excitement that Sheridan generated in “My Left Foot,” “The Boxer” and “In the Name of the Father,” largely through the genius of Daniel Day-Lewis. Nor the stunning barbs of discovery in this year’s two major war films, “The Hurt Locker” and “The Messenger.” “Brothers” pegs too smoothly into place. A virtue in furniture is less so in a movie.

I agree, but People could "report" about those "bumps on the road" without "split up" breaking news.

Reeke wanted more publicity? Reeke is over and Reese is milking the situation for more publicity?

Ted said...

Dear Ted:
Why does it seem that Jennifer Aniston dates "men" with confusion issues (I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, Ted)? Is it that she's not sure men are her "cup of tea," or has she given up on love all together and just doesn't care? She seems smart. She's beautiful, but at the same time, she seems to doubt herself. I guess when your husband leaves you for the town slut for the whole world to see, it can do something to your self-esteem, but he deserves to be happy, and something tells me these "men" just don't do it for her. What's your take?
—ANC

Dear Gyllenspoon Syndrome:
Jen is very much into men, but she's also into her margaritas, friends, tans, cigs and career way more. I think the whole family thing just ain't her schtick. Obviously. It's just that "America's Sweetheart" can't say that. Or can she? Do it, babe!

Dear Ted:
Am I the only one who sees this Jake Gyllenhaal-Reese Witherspoon breakup thing as a way to get some publicity? Doesn't he have a whole slew of movies coming out soon? Maybe I'm too cynical for a 19-year-old; it just seems a little suspicious to me. Hit me back, you sexy bitch!
—Caleb

Dear Opposites Attract:
Actually, practically the only reason they were together was along the lines of publicity. No, breaking up was not part of Reese's plan. This one went awry. What, did Reese get jealous Natalie Portman was sharing Jake's secret recipes for distressed hair?

Dear Ted:
Is there really any way for Toothy Tile to come out at this point, after the big show he's put on with his beard for the last few years? What could he even say to the public without making himself look ridiculous and making his "Type A" beard look worse? I'm all for people being true to themselves, but I was wondering your thoughts on the ramifications of such a big reveal.
—Angie

Dear Funny You Ask:
There's a lot to report on good ol' Toothy. Expect it shortly.

Dear Ted:
Am I wrong? Jennifer Aniston does not strike me as a good girl with bad luck in love. In fact, she seems like the opposite because she chooses these arrogant bad-boy types with a whole lot of attitude like John Mayer, Vince Vaughn and yes, Brad Pitt. Does Jen share certain habits that make her attracted to these jerks, or does she simply share their bad attitude? Thanks!
—Pixie

Dear Good Question:
Much like Reese and Jake, these men are just pawns to keep her relevant. She doesn't want to be seen as the lonely girl, so she goes out with guys she knows will never be anything more than just fun.

Dear Ted:
Agree...I checked today. Reese is no longer friends with Mama Gyllenhaal.
—Stat

Dear Too Funny:
I checked...and you're right! I'll keep her real F.B. name private 'cause I'm in a good mood.

The Awful Truth

Ted has interesting replies today on the Bitch Back. He is hinting that something unplanned happened that precipitated this 'break up' and that there is a Toothy blind item with info item coming up.

Anonymous said...

Ooh! Interesting. I wonder what the tension between Naomi-Reese is?

Anonymous said...

LOL love how Toothy=Jake now. Nobody is even trying to cover it

Anonymous said...

"Stat" claims that Reese is no longer friendly with Mama, Ted is agreeing. The letter is odd, what is Stat agreeing with, the previous letter?

What Ted seems to have forgotten was that is the People source was someone close to Reese, and the first denial came from Jake's rep via Marc Mailkin from E, the joint denials came later. If it was a "break-up" gone awry and it wasn't what Reese wanted, then what he says makes no sense.

Re the letters out of sequence.

And for the record, the story in People that is on the stands now is not about the break-up but several bumps in the road.

Ted is responding to these "letters" like he forgot what their reps said which really doesn't matter

Anonymous said...

Whats F.B.?

Anonymous said...

^F.B.= Facebook.

Anonymous said...

I think what Ted is implying is that Reese had to plant a precipitated 'break up' because something unplanned happened. Ted is ignoring the reps' denial because it is the standard reply to rumors, even if they are 'true' or 'planted'. If the rumor started in People Magazine, it is because Reeke's PR wanted it. People is not a regular tabloid. It is the official PR media.

Anonymous said...

I may be too precipitous on this, but I think Toothy was finally caught into something that should not be seen.... and Reese doesn't want to be near him in case Toothy's people can't stop this to gets public.

maybe some pics or some nasty video.....

Also, I wonder if Austin is finally agreeing to give an "I'll tell everything" interview to some magazine...ok,that would definitely be too good to be true ;D

I would LOVE to see Jake outed.

Anonymous said...

If that was the case then her rep shouldn't have joined his rep for the denial. He would have more reasin to deny it, her rep on orders of her jumped in and denied it as well. They should have not said anything like they did back in 2007 when People announced they broke up.

Even if something did happen suddenly and she wanted to distance herself, it was done very poorly.

If there is anything out there both reps know about it and some agreement would be made for an official anouncement, probably after Brothers publicity.

Witherspoon’s PR team used People magazine to publish break up rumors and few hours later they denied everything and got even more publicity.

Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal used a simple PR trick to promote their fauxmance and get publicity for Jake’s new movie and Reese’s Avon perfume and 4C DVD.

Well, what good is a fauxmance if you can’t use it for marketing and publicity!

The River is a melancholy, beautiful song about lost potential and losing you dreams, especially the live version from the "Live 1975-85" Album where Bruce talks about his relation to his dad and how his Dad always told him that the army would "cut your hair and make a man out of you".

After he got his physical for vietnam and failed he came home and his dad said "Where have you been?" Bruce replied "I went to take my physical."
His dad asked "What happened?" "They didn't take me." And his dad said: "Thats good."

And after that those seconds of silence until Bruce starts playing harmonica like a god.

This live version could make a piece of granite cry.

Now those memories come back to haunt me, they haunt me like a curse

Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
Or is it something worse

Natalie Portman Stays Mum on Reese-Jake Split, Talks Vegan Restaurants

Natalie Portman replies “what?!” and makes a face when asked about the rumors of Brothers co-star Jake Gyllenhaal’s split from Reese Witherspoon during the Gotham Independent Film Awards held Monday at NYC’s Cipriani Wall Street.

Moments earlier, the actress is gushing about Maggie’s brother.
“Jake is amazing,” the Proenza Schouler-clad starlet, 28, says. “He’s fun, spontaneous, funny and charismatic by the ton. He’s really always different every take. It’s very exciting.”

How did the Harvard-educated actress prepare for her role in the war drama?

“I was able to speak to many military wives, which was very informative,” she says. “We had a great rehearsal period for us with Jake and Tobey where we got to go through the scenes and talk about them – what we wanted different.”

Receiving a career tribute tonight marks a highlight in her life.

“Oh! It’s really amazing,” she tells me. “ I’m humbled to be among these peers and in New York, um — and to get this is really amazing.”

What does she love about making independent films?

“There’s an energy you get from not having a lot of time because you have to shoot so quickly and you are constantly moving,” she says. “There’s a great energy you get from that whereas on big films you can upwards spend days on a single scene.”

When Natalie’s not working, she can be found tooling around town in sweat pants and visiting her favorite vegan joints. “[I like] Counter, Taim – it really isn’t vegetarian, but it has great vegetarian dishes – Josie’s Uptown, Angelica Kitchen, Liquiteria.”

But the one thing she can’t avoid is holiday anxiety. “I’m very stressed out,” she says.

Whoops, it’s time for Natalie to head inside to be honored in front of an audience that includes Brooke Shields, Alec Baldwin, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Rock, Patricia Clarkson, Sam Rockwell, Stanley Tucci and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

Sheridan and his screenplay sources make “Brothers” much more than a drama about war and marriage. It is about what we can forgive ourselves for — and that, too, has been a theme running through Sheridan's films. As an Irish Catholic of 60, he was raised to feel a great deal about guilt. This becomes Tobey Maguire's film to dominate, and I've never seen these dark depths in him before. Actors possess a great gift to surprise us, if they find the right material in their hands.

The principal actors, with Shepard's well-timed and not overacted appearances, make this a specific story about particular people, and it avoids temptations toward melodrama. It's about guilt and happiness, and how Tommy treats his guilt by righteous action, and Sam sinks into self-destruction. As a mother who seeks to preserve her daughters in the middle, Portman is the emotional heart of the story, as mothers are for so many families.

“Brothers” is a very close remake of a 2005 Danish film by Susanne Bier, which starred as the mother Connie Nielsen, that remarkable Danish actress equally at home in English (“Gladiator,” “The Ice Harvest”). Same story, same characters, same moral crisis. I cannot fault the Sheridan remake except in a way perhaps only an experienced filmgoer would understand.

It is too finished. It is smooth Hollywood craftsmanship, cinematography, editing. The Danish film, loosely associated with the Dogma movement, was rougher, shakier and more improvised: Therefore, more reality, less fiction. You might find it interesting to see the two films together. If it's true that a film is not what it's about but how it's about it, these two will cause you to ask yourself how a film should be about this story.

When Shepard and Gyllenhaal appear in a scene together, the air around them is charged -- it's as if the searching, vulnerable quality in Tommy's eyes registers as a taunt in the manly-man world of his father.

The chemistry is a lot less charged, unfortunately, between Gyllenhaal and Portman. Gyllenhaal is superb at channeling his confused feelings into physical awkwardness. He shows up at the family's house one morning, after a particularly unsettling episode, carrying construction materials for her kitchen. "I brought you some moulding," he mutters, and sure enough, there it is, coiled into stiff loops that keep threatening to spring out of his arms.

But Portman doesn't quite meet Gyllenhaal's challenge. She holds back too much here, as if she has more invested in playing a dutiful wife and mother than she does in playing a human, sexual being. That may not be wholly her fault. My biggest reservation about "Brothers" is the way it downplays, and too readily smooths over, the sexual attraction between Tommy and Grace. I'm not suggesting that this Hollywood version of "Brothers" needs graphic sex. (The original didn't have that, either.) But I worry that Sheridan, intentionally or otherwise, may have muted the characters' attraction to one another out of fear that American audiences expect more virtuous behavior from their war-torn families. Shot for shot, Sheridan's approach isn't radically different from Bier's. (The director of photography here is Frederick Elmes). And yet Bier gives us more to read between the lines: In her movie, there's an unspoken moodiness, a crackle of sexual tension, between Tommy and Grace's Danish counterparts (played by Nielsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas). That understated but potent secret ingredient is missing from Sheridan's version, as sensitive and as artful as it is.

Maguire's role is the most difficult of the three, and his performance is also the weakest. Maguire has the unenviable task of showing us what it must be like for a soldier to crack, to tumble into a temporary madness that will have a lasting effect. The problem is that he plays the emotion and not the character -- in other words, he plays "crazy" instead of playing a person. At his character's crucial moment, Maguire's eyes pop; he seems to be summoning beads of sweat to the surface of his skin. But it's the acting, not the character's breaking, that registers first and foremost.

Jake Gyllenhaal & Reese Witherspoon Still Together For Some Reason

It’s hard to care about Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon, isn’t it? There’s just nothing to them.

Plus they met on the set of Rendition. And anyone able to fall in love on a film that unwatchably dreary deserves to be chemically castrated. And Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon don’t even have a cute Brangelina-style name. That’s possibly because it’d have to be Jeese or Rake or Withensphaan or Gyllerhoon or something crap like that, but it’s more likely to be because nobody cares.

Anyway, some people say that Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon have split up. Other people say that they haven’t. Please adjust the tragectory of your lives accordingly.

On the surface, Jake Gyllenhall and Reese Witherspoon have a lot in common. They’re both conventionally attractive movie stars. Their surnames would both get you an abnormally high Scrabble score. They’re both critically adored. Their surnames could both feasibly be the name of a Star Trek-style alien race. They were both in Rendition. Their surnames both sound the like dying gasps of a drowning alcoholic. See? They’re made for each other.

OR ARE THEY? Well, probably. Over the last few days, cracks have been reported in whatever impossibly bland landscape it is that passes for paradise in the Gyllenhaal/Witherspoon household. This weekend it claimed that Reese and Jake had split up, either because they both have profoundly deep secrets that they want to cover up, or because there are only so many conversations that two people can have about hair. But that was all turned on its head on Sunday, when Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon came forward to deny the news. So everything’s OK.

OR IS IT? Because according to new reports, Jake Gyllenhaal has been clearing his stuff out of Reese Witherspoon’s house. MSNBC reports:

"Paparazzi allegedly spotted Gyllenhaal’s assistant enter Witherspoon’s residence Sunday evening and exit just 15 minutes later carrying luggage. The assistant was then seen delivering the luggage to Gyllenhaal’s home. “(Gyllenhaal’s assistant) looked like she had a job to do,” one lensman said. “She was in and out very quickly, and she had two bags with her in the car when she left.”

This news is driving us mad! Have Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon split up, or haven’t they? We need to know, because we need to determine the appropriate response. For instance, if they’re still together then we should probably do a fairly nonchalant shrug. But if they’ve split up they deserve nothing less than a fairly nonchalant shrug coupled with an insincere sad face. We need to know one way or the other, damn it.

OR DO WE?

No. No, actually we couldn’t care less. Sorry.

I don't know what Ted or that reader is talking about. The person people think is Reese on Naomi's facebook is still there, she is still friended to Mama.

It's no secret, she uses her real name and her facebook is protected.

What the hell did Ted check, LOL!

Mr. Sheridan: “I said, this could be remade in America, and if there are stars in it, I can get more people to see it,” he continued. “I can rant about this, but first Hollywood kills European cinema, and now it’s eating away at American independent cinema, so we’re in a time when these movies are very hard to get to the public. I think, for me, part of my brief was to get Susanne’s movie to the American public.”

OMG. Does anyone else think it is funny that Jake's word is "separate"!

American public can download or rent european films if they wanted to, there is no need to "educate" them by doing crappy remakes.

Did you guys notice when you go to google news about Jake Gyllenhaal it first lists "Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal". Annoying.

I beg to differ. With the exception of universities showing European movies, not a lot of them are seen in the US.
Try renting European arthouse from netflix, see if you can.

If Americans were eager to see European films, I bet there would be a whole enterprise that could deliver it to them.
American don't care for that type of movies, the most they are able to watch is weakcling, sugared copies.
It's just not their cup of tea, that's all.

Pink and BitchFace

I’ve seen a lot of BitchFace in my day. And Reese Witherspoon’s BitchFace ranks as one of the top BitchFaces in the business. She will cut you with her eye and make you wish you’d never been born. She will curl her upper lip into a sneer that will chill your soul and send you running for butter. Even Anna Wintour would be impressed.

So what’s behind Reese’s BitchFace today in London?

Reese was there this week to raise awareness for victims of domestic violence delivering an emotional impassioned address at the House of Commons. She’s heading home now and back to the drama. Have they or haven’t they? Is Jakey still in the picture?

Jakey is apparently filming in Pittsburgh with Anne Hathaway and this separation is what is leading many to speculate that it’s over, even though reps for both are still insisting it’s on. People Magazine, the original source of the split report, continues to suggest that there’s trouble between them. Curious because, as you know, People usually eats the inside of Reese’s ass. And so the BitchFace is still firmly in place.

Do you still think Lainey pays Reese The Bitch a compliment by calling her BitchFace?

Lainey is just stating the obvious. Reese is a bitchface.

Even if Reeke was real, she's too superficial and doesn't fit emotionally with Jake. He needs to be with a thoughtful, sensitive person.

Lainey needs to get her rags correct: It;s Us Weekly that eats her ass, People really hasn't done anything on her or them since last year and it wasn't even the cover. The last cover (I think) was sometime in 2007 and it was, SURPRISE!! They broke up, LOL!! This is importan because Us weekly story this week says that they are fine and People is full of shit basically, I guess Lainey doesn't read Us anymore since Janice Min left!

Lainey has called her bitch and bitchface going back to her days with Ryan. She hated Ryan then and now.

Lainey like bitchy women and besides why do you care, I thought Lainey was a tool.

I noticed she says People is the source for the split and now the source for the "trouble".

What Jake Gyllenhaal learned from Atticus: There are things more important than making movies - like eating and smelling people's butts.

The babblers are in meltdown mode. They're not allowed to mention the breakup. If they pretend it's not true they think it will all go away.

Aww Atticus. What a smart dog! LOL. ;)

It seems Jake bonded with Tobey on set. He said they made a real connection (he said the same about Heath and BBM ;)).

Natalie seems very fond of Jake. :)

Lainey is right. Reese and Reeke aren't important or interesting enough for People covers, but People magazine supported the fauxmance all the time.

What?! Poor babblers, UV is crazy.

smelling people's butts

Cough! lol

There is no real breakup! How can't you people see this is a publicity stunt??!!! A very poorly done, but no less than a stunt.

"The babblers are in meltdown mode. They're not allowed to mention the breakup."

Nonsense - it was discussed there.
Even UV admitted that something could be on.

Good to see that Jake now gets some attention for his work - with "Brothers" and some other interesting projects ahead.

Lets hope Reeke will silently die and Jake will find someone more free-spirited and sexy - I don´t care whether woman or man.

End of the fauxmance can be used for publicity stunts.

People magazine can't say that reps are lying.
