Prince of Persia: The Story of Jake's Pecs

Lego Prince of Persia
Jake Gyllenhaal
September 28, 2009 by Ted Casablanca

We seriously didn't think Jake Gyllenhaal's campy costume for the upcoming Disney flick Prince of Persia: The Story of Jake's Pecs could get more guffaw-worthy (despite the pretty damn doable bod itself, minus overdone Fabio trappings), but then we saw J.G.'s Lego action figure. Sorry, folks, we don't even get a pint-size superhero-esque action figure of chiseled Gyllen-hon to play with, but this supercute and totally harmless plastic children's toy instead? And it pretty much captures the doability—or lack thereof—of present-day Jakey perfectly.

Oh no?

Try as we might, we just can't drool over a guy who's become as vanilla as the soy latte we always catch him sipping alongside Reese. Manically manicured biceps 'n' abs in themselves don't make a real man, and neither does prancing around in a supersilly getup with an even more impractical piece of arm candy. We so know Gyllen-babe would rather jump back into indie film land and do his less pumped-up, more moody thing. He's so damn good at it, remember?

Is being a big, sweaty H'wood He-Man that important to ya, Jake? 'Cause this Lego figure almost pulls it off better than you have so far.

Please. For the sake of those three of us left who still swoon over ya, Jake, replace the gym and the GF with your true self. It was the hottest thing round there for a while.

Morning Piss: Hollywood's Directors Defend Schmuck Genius

While the Gosselins are predictably continuing their domination of pissing everybody off within five miles of their attention-grabbing antics, I could not be more disgusted at some actual celebrities. Powerhouse directors Martin Scorcese, Woody Allen, Darren Aronofsky and Terry Gilliam, along with dozens other well-known Industry types in T-town, are coming out to defend jail-dodger Roman Polanski by signing a petition against his arrest.

What the hell is there to defend?

Polanski admittedly raped a 13-year old girl back in 1978 and ran for the hills to escape punishment—admittedly, after it looked like L.A.'s legal system was most unfairly set against him.

But, uh, would a bunch of plumbers come out to defend a fellow plumber who did the same horrific thing? Nope. Then how is working in Hollywood any different? Most of the directors signing this ridiculous petition have kids themselves, which they should consider more thoroughly than the guilty man who made some better than excellent movies.

Just because you're undeniably talented (and on your way to accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award), that doesn't give you a free pass to get away with murder...or rape, regardless of the original circumstances.

The point is the whole desultory affair needs to be resolved, legally speaking, at the very least.

It's in that same spirit that Alber begins his very first tour, a Midwest excursion that includes a stop in Chicago Friday, Oct. 2.
...
WCT: Speaking of your video, if you could have cast any famous male actor to dance with you, who would you have picked?

MA: Oh, man. My honest answer is I wouldn't have changed a thing. It turned out exactly how I wanted it to turn out. We talked about trying to cast somebody who was a famous actor, and we realized that would just take away from the story we were trying to tell and it would be "it's that video with Jake Gyllenhaal and that guy" it would just be about that instead of being about the story.

WCT: So is that your roundabout way of saying "Jake Gyllenhaal?"

MA: That said, I definitely wouldn't have minded a few rehearsals with Jake Gyllenhaal. I definitely would have gone to those rehearsals.

The girl/her parents were paid off later by Polanski. That's why she says he should be forgiven - she got her $$$$ and doesn't want (or agreed not to participate as part of the contract) another court trial again. Guess she forgot that laws trump the wishes/payoffs of a victim.

The parents probably thought that nothing bad will happen, he was already a respected, very well know director at the time. I personally wouldn't let my child alone in the same situation, no matter how well known and respected the director is. A person can be a monster even if s/he is a very talented public figure. People shouldn't trust so easily.

When will Jake come clean about his love for Brokie slash!?

"I have no message for the haters, only for the lovers. There’s a self-erected barrier between “celebrities” and “regular people” which I have always felt was complete nonsense. If I make a film, it cannot be a hit unless people go to see it. Celebrities need people as much as people need celebrities, because they give someone a fantasy of a life they wish they had, or show that anyone can realize a dream and come from nowhere to be adored all over the world.

There are also accepted forms of behavior with celebrities. If you notice, it’s accepted socially for a rock star to bang groupies, or for a director to f-ck actresses, or a star to f-ck fans. What is not accepted, however, is to put on this facade of politeness and behavior in front of journalists and bloggers so as to present an “image” that is acceptable to the public. Although I have acted, and I love acting, I think of myself first and foremost as a writer. Somehow, in my mind, the rules of celebrity do not apply to me, since I never followed the classic path to being one.

I was broke at 30 and did not get real worldwide recognition until I was 33 with Hostel. And now, for the first time, people who may have heard of me but have not seen my films know who I am, and I get recognized from the film. But what has changed, really? My behavior. I’ve started being a little more polite. I’m conscious about everything I say. In short, I muted my voice. And then this thing started on ONTD.

Just from my mentioning that I was aware of the gay S&M fanfiction, people felt I had shattered a fourth wall. How could I be the first person to talk about this? Had no one else every acknowledged that it was out there? It seemed hard to believe.

The site is called Ohnotheydidnt. It’s not Salon.com. It’s supposed to be rough, raw, edgy, sexual, and funny. If you don’t want it that way, then why are you there? It should be anything goes. And when I saw the responses, people started writing me through myspace, telling me how much they appreciated my honesty. I wanted to smash down whatever 4th wall was left between the “celebrity” and the “regular people,” which truthfully I don’t really think should exist, or at least I feel it should exist in some other incarnation where celebrities are not put on this pedestal, but simply known for the work they do. I don’t believe in any sort of separation, I think it’s insane.

….I know this seems bizarre, like I had some kind of meltdown, or was on ecstasy or something, but really for me the night was about tearing down those boundaries between celebrity and fan and the things we’re not supposed to say to each other. If I had met any of those girls in person and we had had a one night stand, it would be socially acceptable. But what did we do, really? Exchange words, images, and fantasies, and had a laugh over it. It was f-cking hot, but it was all safe fun. We indulged in fantasy, but the reality of what happened was quite powerful. That’s not something that can be repeated. I wouldn’t do that every night, I probably wouldn’t ever do that again, because part of the fun of it was everyone saying “are we really doing this? Is this really happening?” That taboo breaking zone is where I live."

Swiss locals' Roman holiday

Roman Polanski's neighbors in Gstaad, Switzerland, are outraged at his arrest Sunday over his 1977 rape of a 13-year-old girl he'd drugged. "Everybody loves him," said one well-heeled Euro. "He built a beautiful chalet with old wood. He skis like crazy. He's very family-oriented. I've never seen a man who changed his life so much." Residents of the Swiss Alpine resort can't fathom why Polanski was apprehended for extradition to California while Marc Rich was allowed to live openly in Zug for many years as a fugitive from US tax-evasion charges until his 11th-hour pardon by then-President Bill Clinton. "I guess Polanski wasn't rich enough to pay off the right people," shrugged our local. Neighbors are particularly fond of Polanski's son, Elvis, 12, "who plays piano like a dream. He plays classical, then switches to boogie-woogie."

The petition is HW and European movie industry people who think Polanski shouldn't be arrested or extradited for the child rape that he admitted to and plead guilty for. The petition is basically people who believe that it's okay that Polanski drugged and raped (anally raped btw) a child.

But there is one justice, and that should be the same for everyone. I will let justice happen.” He added, , “I don’t have any opinion on this, but I have a daughter, 13 years old. And if she was violated, nothing would be the same, even 30 years later.”

One of New York, I Love You’s considerable pleasures comes from watching accomplished feature directors work in a more concise storytelling format. Of course, the downside can be that these eight-minute shorts end up being too slight or self-indulgent, but after Jiang Wen’s awkward pickpocket romance (starring a wooden Christensen) and Mira Nair’s drab cross-cultural drama (featuring Portman), New York, I Love You finds its footing with several shorts that examine love from unique angles.

Among the highlights, Allen Hughes (one half of the Hughes brothers) sensually captures the excitement and worry that linger after a passionate one-night stand, while Portman impresses behind the camera directing a poignant short about divorced parents and the children trapped in the middle.

Broadway Star to Join 30 Rock?

The ginormous ensemble cast of 30 Rock is about to get bigger!

Sorry, all you screaming tweens, it's not Robert Pattinson or Justin Timberlake. But how about another total hottie to join the funny crew in the meantime? We're hearing rumors that Broadway star Cheyenne Jackson is set to join the cast as a permanent or semipermanent player and that he's already begun filming.

We contacted NBC for a response, but only got this noncomment: "Unfortunately, at this time, the show is not commenting on any castings. Sorry about that." Our source still says to look out for an announcement later on this week—did we beat NBC to the punch? Sorry 'bout that!

For those non-New York theatergoers out there who don't know who the hell Jackson is, the buff dude starred on B'way in the über-campy Xanadu and Elvis musical All Shook Up, and he's about to play the lead role in Finian's Rainbow this fall—guess he's gonna be one totally busy guy!

So who's Chey gonna play on the Emmy-winning comedy? Another superhot love interest for Tina Fey now that Jon Hamm's gone? A rival page to Kenneth? Alec Baldwin's long lost son? No word yet, but like we give a damn—any hunk the show wants to throw us, we're totally fine with!

Especially R.Pattz, who we're desperately wishing would show off his funny bone already.

Fingers crossed!

But City Prosecutor Sim Gill declined to press charges, saying the church's signs failed to adequately warn the couple that they were entering private property.

James Franco to guest star on 'General Hospital'

James Franco will guest star on ABC's "General Hospital" for a lengthy story arc this fall.

The Pineapple Express and Spider-Man actor will play a mystery person who comes to the soap opera's town of Port Charles. The recurring role will begin Nov. 20 — to coincide with November sweeps — and will last about two months. Executive producer Jill Farren Phelps says it's "an honor that an actor of Franco's caliber would choose to spend some of his valuable time in Port Charles."

The 31-year-old Franco will star as Allen Ginsberg next year in the film Howl.

Anonymous said...

Leon = The Professional.

She complained about her being too young for that role as explained in 2:05 PM.

Anonymous said...

Having sex with directors is probably the way she gets all her roles. She isn't that great an actress.

Nat doesn't need that. She is talented, educated and pretty.

Anonymous said...

I'd scratch educated. I've heard so much dumb bullcrap from her that I seriously ask myself if she bought that B.A. degree. LOL.

Anonymous said...

I don't think she's pretty or talented either.

What a strange thing for Franco to do. If it's true, I have to say that doing so many different things just adds to the appeal.

I hope we'll hear from Franco about reasons for this :)

Just looked through new Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd candids on set. LOL, they seem quite fond of each other, in one pic she even kisses his forehead (didn't look like a film scene). Pity he's married and has a kid. (But he's probably too good for phony, bitchy Reese anyway...)

Anonymous said...

What a surprise, we've been getting pictures of Jake on the set with co-workers, and Reese has to up and make sure she does the same thing. Competitive little bitch. :-D

Anonymous said...

Aw, both Reese and Jake have pics of their films floating on the net, and look they are filming in the same state at the same time!!!!

I saw some tweet that said that she will be filmingin Philly until Nov. That's along time to film a rom-com0 June-Nov. but I read that some the scenes they are shooting now are re-shoots of the DC stuff.

They shold be fond of each othe, they have known each other for 10 years and this is their 3rd film together.

Paul Rudd knows how the play is. Being "friends" with Chin got him 3movie roles...not bad for a mediocre actor.

This Is Not a Joke — James Franco Really Is Joining General Hospital

No official word on why the Pineapple Express star took the gig, but sources tell ABC Soaps In Depth that the movie star "wants to do everything" throughout his career. Franco is scheduled to be on set one day a week, filming several episodes at a time.

Franco to guest star on 'General Hospital' - Huffington Post comment:

This is hilarious and weird and perfect.

Why shouldn't he try every form of acting he can get his hands on? He's young, he's been very successful, he's clearly got enough standing in the industry. Ian McKellan did this too, by the way, on Coronation Street in the UK -- just showed up for a few months, had a ball, and then went away again to continue his high-profile career. Why not?

Next stop, Catskills dinner theatre!

I wonder if all the gossip bloggers REALLY think Jake is gay.
Most of them certainly like to joke about it... but I still ask myself if it is not just a common place to make nasty remarks about him.I'm sure jokes and rumours can be equally threatful for a young star's career, though.

I'm of the opinion Jake is 100% gay, btw.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if all the gossip bloggers REALLY think Jake is gay.

1. All gossip bloggers don't care about Jake and that includes not caring about his sexuality.

2. Vast majority of professional male gossipers are gay. I bet they are at least curious, and some of them REALLY think Jake is gay. Let's not forget that some of them can't talk about it - NY Post gossipers can't mention things that Michael K writes about.

Anonymous said...

Seems to me the ones that don't "think" Jake is gay are the ones that have ties to or are very pr-friendly. Who knows what most of them really think, with the exception of Perez who was bought.

Jared Eng runs a very PR friendly site - we will never find out what he thinks about Jake being gay, but we can count on JiS posts.

Bryan Batt and Same-Sex Partner Plan Christmas Wedding said...

The "Mad Men" star is said planning to wed his longtime partner Tom Cianfichi this coming Christmas in Vermont, New England.

Following the footsteps of some other Hollywood gay celebs, actor Bryan Batt is planning to marry his longtime same-sex partner, events planner Tom Cianfichi. A source is quoted as telling National Enquirer, the pair who has been together for more than eighteen years is planning a Christmas wedding. "They're leaning toward a Christmas wedding in Vermont," reveals the source. "Bryan is at the top of his game professionally, and they've never been happier."

Wedding arrangements reportedly have been worked on by Bryan and Tom. They "already consider themselves married, and are registered as domestic partners in New Orleans," claims an insider. "Tom's working on the wedding arrangements, and with their combined style and taste; it's certain to be a big event. They intend to pull out all the stops."

Nevertheless, possible wedding venue and invited guests are not mentioned. Bryan himself is yet to comment on the wedding report.

On screen, Bryan Batt is best known for his role as Salvatore Romano in AMC's TV series "Mad Men". Besides, he also has some starring roles in big screen flicks in addition to starring in some Broadway plays.

Re Franco, college students watch a lot of soaps. Maybe he's just into them right now. Good that he is open to anything and goes with the flow.

Anonymous said...

A lot of sports pros watch soaps, too. Seriously! That's when they're usually home or in a hotel, between the hours of 11:00 and 3:00, before they go to pregame practice and meetings. Granted, most watch for the actresses, but still. (and a few date or even marry them). I've known 3 baseball and 2 football pro players who told me they and many of their teammates watch the soaps. Every so often in a sports movie they'll have a reference or a scene where players are watching OLTL, GH, AMC Y&R or B&B.. it's funny because it's so true.

turn them gay BI said...

This top Hollywood film actor has never come out of the closet, but there have been lots of rumors in the past that he is gay. While he has plenty of offers from gay men – and straight women – he actually prefers a third option: straight men who are also famous. He enjoys getting them to “switch teams”, even if only for a one-time tryst.

His powers of persuasion must be pretty strong, because he’s talked more than one famous and straight man into sampling the goods. He always makes it as dirty as possible (including the sampling of each other’s body waste), because he feel certain that there is no way that they will ever tell anyone.

Gay penguins book is most banned said...

Authors, artists and musicians are due to gather at a library in San Francisco to protest against the banning of books in schools and libraries in the US. Since 2001 bans on 3,736 books and other materials have been requested.

In recent years, And Tango Makes Three - based on a true story and centring on gay penguins in New York's Central Park Zoo - has had the most ban requests. The book's authors are Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell.

In a statement to the BBC on Friday, Mr Richardson said: "It's regrettable that some parents believe reading a true story about two male penguins hatching an egg will damage their children's moral development. "They are entitled to express their beliefs, but not to inflict them on others."

Reasons given by organisations and individuals for their requests to get it removed from public shelves, include "anti-ethnic, anti-family, homosexuality, religious viewpoint, and unsuited to age group".

Other works featuring in the most-challenged books list for 2008 include Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials and Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner.

Film director, poet, and famous father Stephen Gyllenhaal turns sixty today [4 October 1949].

This past year the man has gone through tribulations no man should go through.
...

But let's not dwell on Stephen's real-life stumbles. Let's recall, instead, the bottle-rape scene in Paris Trout—the dreamlike stabbing of David Strathairn by Debra Winger in A Dangerous Woman—Lena Headey's shrieks in a sun-dappled forest while undergoing an illegal abortion in Waterland—Barbara Hershey's graphic ax murder of her love rival in Killing in a Small Town—and wonder that this film director once had it in him to be the American Claude Chabrol, with a little Sylvia Plath thrown in.

And so I urge you: Cheer him up! Send him your warmest, most encouraging birthday greetings here! And tell him Cantara sent you.

'And Tango Makes Three' Authors Have Baby of Their Own said...

Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson, the authors behind the gay penguin children's book And Tango Makes Three, now have their own child, City Room reports:

"In February, the gay couple, who live in the West Village, had their first child. The baby, Gemma Parnell-Richardson, was born to a surrogate mother, the egg fertilized by sperm from one of the men. (Which one was left to chance.)...Gemma was born in Massachusetts because the state allows both fathers’ names on the birth certificate without an adoption process. (In addition, New York State does not allow women to be paid to be surrogate mothers.)"

According to the American Library Association, more attempts were made (by right-wingers angry with the book's message about successful gay parents) to remove And Tango Makes Three from library shelves in 2006, 2007, and 2008 than any other book.

And Tango Makes Three tells the story of how Roy and Silo, in an attempt to raise a child of their own, try in vain to sit on a stone so it will hatch. When zookeepers notice this, they give the two gay penguins an egg from another mother that has no bird to care for it. Roy and Silo then take turns sitting on the egg until they have a chick. The story is true and based on two chinstrap penguins at the Central Park Zoo in Manhattan.

City Room writes: "On Saturday, Mr. Richardson and Mr. Parnell read their book in Chicago for Banned Books Week, an annual event the association sponsors to draw attention to issues of intellectual freedom. 'Unlike gays in the military, gays at the altar, the government is squarely behind us this time; the Constitution is squarely behind us,' Mr. Richardson said. This year, the birth of Gemma gave their annual reading special resonance, the men said. 'Two plucky characters want something that seems totally out of reach,' Mr. Richardson said. 'They try and try and try and ultimately they succeed.'"

Congrats guys!

Ted said...

Blind Vice: Toothy Tile Trading Coke for Cracking Up?

This is not a joke: Poor closeted movie star Toothy Tile, last caught pitifully fooling around with blow and broads, is more recently causing his friends to worry something fierce about his head.

And I don't mean the kind he prefers getting in West Hollywood parking lots.

As our beloved Mr. T's same-sex desires (and née partnership) have been cast as far back in the closet as Kevin Spacey appears to be, Toothy's extremely tight band of friends are fretting for the fella's emotional well-being and rightfully so.

"We're wondering when he's going to crack," said one of the slightly lesser-inside chums to the notoriously private actor. "I keep hearing from everybody else that he's about to pop, but it's weird, whenever I see him, he acts like everything's cool. I think he only shows that side of himself to a couple of people."

And those people are telling other people who are telling me:

•Toothy's current and arranged girlfriend is starting to "really get on his nerves," particularly when she cleans up after Toothy, who's apparently a bit of a clumsy eater.
•Toothy's getting fed up with having to keep his (currently reinvented) relationship with Grey Goose in the dark and is threatening his publicists and hangers-on with outing both himself and Grey which would then, ironically, ruin Grey's own beard relationship, not that anybody really cares, so never mind.
•Toothy's been heard complaining to his advisers that the Biz angle they've chosen for him is not exactly panning out, so "what has it been for?," as Toothy has cried.
•Toothy's so frustrated by being a nonperson, as it were (and how he deems it, quite unlike many other fellow Hollywood celebs who are perfectly happy to sell their empty souls to the tabloid devil), he's become unnaturally obsessed with his abs, a subject years prior, when he was happier with Grey, he didn't give an ef about.

Toothy, Toothy, Toothy!

Please give up this hideous fake life while you can?and before you turn into one of these six-packed prima donnas who have about as much to say in life as does Kristin Cavallari. We know the real Toothy's dying to come out.

Let him!

(Hey, Neil Patrick Harris still has an OK gig, ya know).

Who says Ryan is Ok with Jake in real life? Have you seen how much custody Ryan has? He has the kids more than 50% of the time. She was in a position to fight for full custody and leave him with just visitation but he somehow wound up with joint custody and full access. Maybe that was the deal. Keep you mouth shut and the kids are yours whenever you want them. He doesn't seem like the type who would want them 100% of the time but he also seems like way more then a weekend dad.
