Heath's Birthday

I remember a conversation with Robert Richardson, the Director of Photography on "Four Feathers": "Just make sure that the audience are able to look into Heath's eyes. They tell a story of ancient wisdom and all of humanity." Not an easy job for a DP when Heath would so easily break into an Australian crinkle and narrow his eyes, so that the point of light so carefully placed by the DP would search desperately for its subject! I used to tell Heath that he was an ancient soul in a youthful body and mind. That his struggle was between the ancient wisdom he carried in his soul and coming to terms with his youth.

That struggle showed and I - the 'brother from another mother' as he called me - embraced him at those moments.

I wish I was there to embrace him when he passed away. I was so close. But then, it was not meant to be.

Oh please, give it up. Of course, there are people who are trying to influence Jake, but in the end he makes his own choices. He wants Reeke. He will stick with it for as long as he wants. He is not having a nervous breakdown. Stop the silly projecting and making excuses.

The only people having nervous breakdowns are the Jaustin believers. Ted's not pushing the true love fairy tale, and some of you just can't handle that.

It not that difficult: Reese is a bitch and helping Jake beard; Jake is gay and chosing to beard; Austin is a convenient doormat who enjoys being dogged.

See, simple.

Anonymous said...

There's nothing wrong with Austin being a doormat if that's all he wants. It certainly suits Jake.

"This is not supporting the idea that Jake is somehow using the bearding to "protect" his relationship with Austin. It especially puts the boot to the idea that Jake's relationship with Austin is really his primary focus, or that Austin is his real love. Jake is bearding for his career, not to protect Austin or any other gay relationship. Ted said nothing to reiterate the idea the Jake is still in love with Austin, but Austin is convient for the sex. Some people are too emotionally invested in Jaustin to accept any reality that may contradict the "true love" fairy tale."

Thanks ITA!
The fairy tale is over. Jake don't love Austin, if it was the case Ted would have spoken up against the "I think Jake isn't in love of GG anymore" saying TT can't leave GG, but he doesn't say that!!!!

Anonymous said...

"For once, Ted's writing and meaning are pretty damn clear. It's amazing that it's upsetting some of you so much."

Ted write what is convenient for him and his saga!!

Teddy isn't stupid and likely expect Reeke last long time , maybe even an engagment.

He perfectly knows a TT saga without jaustin couple doesn't work and would upset his fans readers so he is reassuring, in case of Reeke 's engagment GG will remain loyal :" we don't think GG can up or leave him"

LOL yeah right Ted!

I don't know if I really believe Ted now , the guy is just good for entertainment!

Anonymous said...

And who knows what he does the rest of his time. He does look happy and has never seemed spineless to me, specially not recently.

Ted has also said there is a baby.

Anonymous said...

^ Austin, that is.

A lot of people get upset about Jaustin as it doesn't tie in with their preferred fic. But the TT saga is Jaustin, not anyone else.

"There's most likely no baby."

I think Austin and Jake are smart enough to not implicate a poor baby in this mess!

The " little Goose" IMO is a reference to Austin , Ted say if there will be an egagment with the "gf" TT will keep "a little of"GG in his life!

"Austin is the only one of the three who always looks happy, independent and doing his own thing."

It's the reason why I think : either he the fool , happy to be the joke of the butt completely blind by his love , which I strongly doubt!
or there is no love anymore between us , just a "convenient attachment", sex and biking from time to time( more likely, if we believe the yesterday's letter, choosen by Ted on purpose)
Or they were and are just friends!!

Anyways, I am done with the great love Jaustin story and somehow it's makes me sad!

Jake is bearding for his career, not to protect Austin or any other gay relationship.

Jake wants straight public image for his career and to hide and protect gay relatioship(s). I don't think Jake suddenly turned asexual.

Anonymous said...

I think Jake fucks Reese and maybe Austin on the side too to satisfy his homosexual needs. I wouldn't count on Reeke breaking up anytime soon, this relationship is too convenient for both.

Anonymous said...

LOL

Jake is bearding because he doesn't want sex with women.

Anonymous said...

Austin certainly seems happy recently. Obviously he's content with the little side action he's getting.

Austin is getting all the action.

Ted has also said there is a baby.

You fangirl types are so consistently airheaded. You make me want to gouge my own eyes out with a spoon. You never read and didgest ANYthing properly. You skim things, miss out half the rest and don't bother to check for updates.

Ted has NEVER said there is a flesh n blood baby as such that has been born; he's referred to Baby Tile as being on the backburner and a work in progress, but that it does, in conceptual tems, exist. It's been talked about or planned for, but not necessarily acted upon. That it's either in progress or in some stage of organizing. Maybe that's gone to pot with all the attention.

Hell, the guy is not in Jake's bedroom, he just gossips what he hears.

Yes, Kiki was papp'd at some airport arriving and getting into Alexandra Sagan's car where they kissed (that's her friend's name according to DCF)
Kiki wants publicity, Lohan style.
The post was titled "Kiki's lady luck" or smth like that and was deleted from the net, can't find it.

I thought the sports game photos with the girl seemed genuine and relaxed. The little hand gestures are quite intimate. Kiki does look healthier of late, even the Ent Lawyer has said so and he's the first to snidely call out those he thinks are on subs.

So, if she'd dating this girl and they're good for each other, good. I also wonder about your publicity comment on this kissing pic since if it was purely PR those pics wouldn't have been whipped off the net so fast, they'd have wanted to milk it.

Kiki's had enough shit thrown her way form offkey moments of her life caught on camera. I'm not sure she's at Lindsay Lohan famewhoring level just yet, she seems to have been incredibly lowkey of late.

Yes what? Yes it's here or yes it's being discussed and I know it's being discussed or yes it's being planned for or yes it's in the works here.

This is no more than classic Tedspeak. It's designed to be non-committal so different people read what they want into it.

It doesn't mean there's a real baby. Besides, he's since said it's gone on the backburner. So maybe the alleged plan's been shelved.

Everything is Tedspeak. It's designed that way. Not to be taken literally.

If it were JUST a case of believing Jake is bi or gay on the strengths of what Ted says I'd have opted out of this long ago. It's only because I've seen things for myself - private things - that just reinforce aspects of what he's said.

He's not right about every detail, but he has a decent idea of who's gay and whatnot.

If there IS a baby, it might be well out of the spotlight, being brought up somewhere well out of the way of paps and attention. We only see a fraction of these peoples time and the pictures put out could be taken at anytime (not nec. the dated time on them) or taken at diff points in the same day to cover a week's worth of sightings. But in the meantime, the subjects go off and do their own thing.

Who knows. In Hollywood, anything's a possibility.

American Idol’s Big Tease

LET’S say you are an “American Idol” contestant with a criminal history. Let’s say you claimed to have had an affair with Paula Abdul. Let’s imagine that you are found to have posed for topless photos or been charged with identity theft.

These are not hypothetical scandals. Each has occurred during the eight-season run of the top-rated show. And each has duly been processed out of consciousness at a speed accorded most show business scandals — forgotten in the nanosecond it takes us to move on from the latest reality TV distraction and back to our ordinary lives.

Let’s imagine, then, that among the assorted warblers and strummers and leather-lunged divas that have made up the renewable cast of hopefuls on the country’s No. 1 television show, you appear not as some talented hopeful with a shady backstory but as a theatrical creation with a message to sell beyond the usual will to prevail. You are swivel hipped and pillow lipped. You have an outsize talent and a fondness for Cher. You have blond hair dyed black and styled in an asymmetrical shag. At some long-ago moment, you gave in to your inner Maybelline girl.

You are Adam Lambert, the contestant widely tipped as a favorite to be the next winner of “American Idol.” And the only thing standing between you and riches and the chance to play arenas may be a question currently burning up the Internet: Can a gay contestant win?

Leave aside for a moment the answer to such a question, or even whether Mr. Lambert is gay. He may be. He may not. Fox, which owns “Idol,” is not saying; neither is the contestant himself.

What is notable is the intensity of the insinuations caroming around the Internet and in certain corners of the mainstream press — that and the fact that even asking whether a gay contestant can win a broadly popular reality show, whose survivors are selected by public acclaim, seems increasingly anachronistic in light of decisions in Iowa and Vermont to extend marriage rights to gay men and lesbians.

Still, ask they do. Pointing to “embarrassing pictures of Mr. Lambert circulating on the Internet,” photographs that show someone who looks uncannily like the contestant tongue-wrestling another man, the conservative commentator Bill O’Reilly inquired last week on his Fox News show, “These pictures that hint that he is gay, will they have an effect on this program, which is a cultural phenomenon in America?”

Cultural critics with a broader frame of reference than Mr. O’Reilly’s can easily contextualize Mr. Lambert in a long line of performers who tantalize the public with their talent and equally with their gender ambiguities. Think of Liberace. Think of Prince or Bowie or Elton John or K. D. Lang or Pete Wentz. “We have always had that person” on the pop landscape, said Aaron Hicklin, the editor of Out magazine. “The difference now is that previously the conversation about sexuality has not been as public. When Liberace was around, there was no real way to talk about this stuff.”

Now, of course, there is no way and no reason to stifle conversation about the signals Mr. Lambert appears to send in the form of song choices pilfered from the hope chests of anthemic divas (Cher’s “I Believe”); his bio (he was a child who enjoyed dressing up a lot but sports “not so much,” said his father in an on-air interview); and a theatrical style at times so arch that his country-night version of “Ring of Fire” evoked for Sarah Chinn, the executive director of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, “Joey Arias channeling Billie Holiday channeling Johnny Cash.”

According to a Gawker post last week, the “applause-o-meter” had Mr. Lambert pulling way ahead. “Might we actually get a Kris/Adam finale?” read the item, referring to Kris Allen, a generic teen idol type with a waxed cowlick and a lopsided smile. “Might, also, we get a Kris/Adam somethin’ else?’ Hah, doubtful. No one sees Adam without his skinsuit on, except maybe that fetching, fey little blond character they keep cutting to and describing as Adam’s ‘friend.’ ”

Predictable as the snarky innuendo is, it also struck a discordant Roy Cohn note, coming in the week when Vermont’s Legislature voted to override a veto by the governor and recognize gay marriage, adding the Green Mountain State to Connecticut, Massachusetts and Iowa in a list of states actively advancing the cause of civil rights for gay people. “The entire system is changing so rapidly it is not to be believed,” said David Ehrenstein, a Los Angeles based film critic and scholar who writes the hilarious Fablog.

America’s heartland, he said, turns out to be politically contiguous to its notoriously liberal coasts. “Iowa is apparently infested with San Francisco values,” he said.

Even the White House made a point of inviting lesbian and gay families to join in an annual Easter Egg Roll.

Thus it seems plausible that a person with more than a toe peeking out of the closet might actually win the most hotly contested singing show on the planet. True, it took six years of public insinuation before Clay Aiken, the popular also-ran from Season 2, made the choice in 2008 to come out. When he did so, however, the anticipated career-stall never happened. The news was greeted with a collective yawn.

NY Times

part 2 said...

“I see us as living in the post-Neil Patrick Harris era,” said Mr. Ehrenstein, referring to the actor who in 2006 trumped online efforts to expose his sexuality by publicly declaring himself gay to People magazine. “He crossed the Rubicon. He did the ‘sudden death’ play. Supposedly you come out and your career is over. He came out and his career is in better shape than it ever was.”

It is worth remembering how radical a shift this is in the public consciousness and that a half century ago, in the 1950s when the film producer Marina Cicogna first found herself in Los Angeles, as she recently told W magazine, studios forced Rock Hudson into bogus relationships with women and obliged gay actors “to lie from morning to night.”

In 1959 Liberace, the camp artifact best known, as one critic wrote, “for beating Romantic music to death on a piano decorated with a candelabra,” sued an English newspaper for libel for implying in print that he was gay. Given his taste for lacquered pompadours, rhinestone jumpsuits, white mink coats and pneumatic male personal assistants, it is hard now to imagine Liberace believing his public was deceived. But then it is still hard to square shifting public opinion with that of an industry that forces its gay talents to hide in plain sight.

When asked on the witness stand whether he was homosexual, Liberace emphatically told a judge: “No, sir! I am against the practice because it offends convention and it offends society.” He won the suit and damages and then, much later, was named in a $113 million palimony suit by his partner Scott Thorson.

“For a long time, gay men were very sensitive to being associated with effeminacy,” said Mr. Hicklin of Out. “It was highly objectionable, an example of stereotyping and caricature.”

Being photographed in drag or, as Mr. Lambert apparently was at the Burning Man Festival, wearing makeup and a thigh-high halter dress revealing enough to bring a blush to the cheeks of J. Lo, is far from a career-killer these days. “There was a common set of signifiers in theater and TV and popular culture that implied gay,” Mr. Hicklin said. “Gay men came to embrace all that because it came to feel far less threatening to be labeled in that way.”

Also, somewhat unexpectedly, heterosexuals took up the playfulness of gender ambiguity. “The gay thing got derailed by the way many straight guys started playing with image,” Mr. Hicklin said. Metrosexuals followed homosexuals out of the closet. Pete Wentz posed for the cover of Out. “Pete Wentz wears makeup and clearly is confident enough not to be threatened by any assumptions his fans or nonfans might come to,” Mr. Hicklin said.

Like Mr. Lambert — whose more steadily assertive gender games are likely to reach an apotheosis this week when the “American Idol” contestants are asked to perform their favorite movie song — performers are now free to treat real or putative gayness as another show business tool, a peekaboo game, a ploy. So-called low forms of sex relationship that entertainment industry codes once kept from being depicted on movie screens are now so routine a feature of pop culture that when “Saturday Night Live” recently parodied the proliferating pop references to sexual experimentation in a sketch titled “The Fast and the Bi-Curious,” the Entertainment Weekly critic Ken Tucker slapped the show down for using jargon that “feels old and overused.”

Unlike other reality shows, said Joe Jervis — a gay activist blogger whose recent mention of Adam Lambert on his site Joe My God generated 50,000 hits from people searching the term “Is Adam Lambert Gay?” — the contestants on “American Idol” aren’t voted off their little show business island by one another. Love them or hate them, it is up to America to choose.

“The show is squarely in the hands of the viewers,” Mr. Jervis said. It is just that vox populi aspect of “American Idol,” he said, that demonstrates radical changes “in the popular view of openly gay people.” That may be. But it is certainly also worth noting that a Revlon habit is no surefire tip-off to gayness, latent or otherwise. Ask Marilyn Manson. Ask Devendra Banhart or Brandon Flowers or any of the other members of groups sometimes called “eyeliner bands.” For that matter, why not ask Kiss?

LiLo and Sam Really Do Mean Something

We spend a fair amount of time and space at Newser on the ever-continuing drama of LiLo and Sam’s relationship. Behind the scenes at Newser, there is quite often an animated debate about why we’re giving LiLo and Sam so much attention. Many of the other over-50 men at Newser (there are two of us) find our interest excessive—but not me.

Or, after months of grousing, I’ve finally gotten their significance. LiLo and Sam are the first post-gay couple. We’re gay-blind to LiLo and Sam. Nothing askance attaches to them. The word lesbian seems hardly ever—even unconsciously—to arise.

Nor do they seem merely part of the movement to turn gay couples invisible by making them as uninteresting and middle class as any other kind of couple. That is, after all, part of the meaning of the gay marriage issue—we’re ever so unsexy, too. But those gay couples still look gay—as well as boring.

LiLo and Sam aren’t trying to hide in plain sight by being ordinary.

They’ve denuded their lesbianism in part through all the media attention. Self-promotion creates a noise level that drowns out everything else, including, it seems, prejudice. It could be the fighting. That’s the universal point of empathy between all couples, gay or straight: You know your own tensions and resentments could as easily boil over in public (and involve changed locks, restraining orders, bouncers, etc). We identify.

And they’re young. It would undoubtedly be different if they were old lesbians. Young lesbians seem, well, more young than lesbian.

It could be that, given everything we’ve seen, each fight as it's been reported, we don’t see a same-sex couple, but a divided couple. By class, for one thing. The Ronsons think they are very New York and superior (albeit via Page Six), while the Lohans couldn’t be more trailer trash. And, indeed, the constant tussle between the families not only makes that point, but further establishes that, gay or straight, you’ll have horrifying in-laws. Of course, Lindsay Lohan is a star, and Samantha Ronson is…hmm, not sure. On the other hand, Samantha Ronson is cool, and has lent that cache to Lindsay Lohan, who, on her own, is a bit of a cow.

At any rate, I’m now giving the issue of why we give LiLo and Sam so much attention a double-dose of too much attention. And yet, I do think it’s worth noting that LiLo and Sam, whether together or not, have broken a cultural barrier. With a little critical interpretation, they’re the Jackie Robinson of same-sex couples. Their very irrelevance and insignificance seems to have made their sexual orientation irrelevant and insignificant, too.

That’s something.

Someone said on the last page about Reese putting down Ryan in front of other people and how unhappy he was. I remember seeing pics of them at PR events where Ryan looked miserable and Reese was smiling broadly for the camera. Judging from the last few pic sets of Reeke, the Fendi store, boarding the airplane, the lunch/jogging, the double date car pics, I wouldn't be surprised if she was pulling the same shit on Jake.

I think Jake was bored and fed up with long period of reeking.

I also think Reese is in no position to piss Jake off just for the fun of it - they are business partners and "partners in crime", and that makes them "equal".

Anonymous said...

Not really. Equal partners in crime? I disagree. Remember, it's Reese who is selling to the world via interviews and double-speak, that she has a bf. Jake hasn't said one word. He could knock her and her credibility to the ground with one interview stating that they are/were only friends and disputing there was ever a romantic relationship. Jake has the upper hand, he has the power to expose her PR lies.

Yes, they email and Blog and take photos of themselves and their friends and post them. That is true. But they also dislike invasions of their privacy, and indeed feel that they have a right to it. They don’t want anyone to follow them in the bathroom and watch them poop or pee.

Some of them are willing to fight to preserve their privacy. I know. I teach a class that focuses on privacy issues. In a recent moot court we held in class the students were all on the side of the citizens whose privacy was violated, and against the media that invaded it. When I told them that our college president had surgery to shrink the size of his stomach, and that he had lost 100 pounds they insisted that wasn’t news, and that they’d never print it in the campus newspaper.

I disagreed. If Derek Jeter’s hands and Alex Rodriguez’s knees are news, the college president’s stomach is news, too. He’s getting paid $150,000 a year, and I want to know if he’s healthy or not and able to do his job.

I have always liked gossip, and I like to gossip. I have gossiped about Tom Hayden, Jane Fonda, Jessica Mitford, Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, the son and daughter of my friends, Naomi and Stephen Gyllenhaal, who produced Homegrown, the marijuana movie I wrote, and who made everyone who worked on the movie sign a contract saying that they would not do drugs during production. Sometimes there is more news in so-called gossip then in hard news stories. Whenever I hear juicy gossip I email friends. I tell the world. Naomi and Stephen Gyllenhaal, who produced Homegrown, the marijuana movie I wrote, and who made everyone who worked on the movie sign a contract saying that they would not do drugs during production.

Gyllenhaal's seem pretty anti drugs. Maggie supposedly urged Jake to break up with Dunst because of her heavy drug use. I don't know if I can believe that neither Maggie nor Jake even tried, esp. Jake. I also think one of the reason's Jake kept quiet after Heath passed were the drug rumors that surrounded his death. Like, tainted by association. And we know Reeke want a clean image and it seems fam. Gyllenhaal as well.

He is C list at best

What Jake has done since bearding: two movies that may never see the light of day, and PoP, which I think smacks of C list and has the potential of being a big flop.

What Austin has been doing since Jake started bearding: Friday Night Lights, One Tree Hill, The Informers, Prayers for Bobby and Fencewalkers. I'm not saying these are great in comparison to Jake's pictures, but he has worked steadily on a variety of projects.

I'm willing to bet good money Austin gets new work before Jake does too.

And you can laugh about his C-list status and what he's doing on Southern Gothic, but that site has had over 45,000 hits in the past two months. I bet all of Jake's sites combined wouldn't even begin to approach that number.

Jake has no problem with people who use drugs - Kiki, Sam Ronson, Matthew McConaughey, RDJ.

Ronson and Kiki belong to the past, pre success.
Were there ever serious drug rumors about McConaughey, except for weed? RDJ is "officially" clean now.

I would wait and see. Brothers and Nailed were directed by great directors who directed many critically acclaimed films. We'll have to wait and see before judging. PoP wasn't his best idea, but since he always wanted an own franchise and had the opportunity to play the lead in this one... Let's see how everything turns out.

Jake was associated, for a long time, with a heavy drug user - he can't change the past.

The point is that McConaughey and RDJ don't have clean images.

^^Zodiac wasn't a movie for a big audience. It was still a really good movie with mostly positive reviews. At least it wasn't a turkey, unfortunately Rendition was. Jake said he agreed to do the movie because he knew Reese signed to do it, if you want to believe him. All collaborations with her were a mistake obviously.
I hope for Jake that his upcoming projects will fare better than Rendition did.

Rendition and Zodiac were brilliant but they bombed at the box office. Nailed is an embarassment that will hopefully go straight to DVD.

Brothers sounds absolutely brilliant, with tons of Oscar buzz all over it, but Jake is not putting as much effort into getting it into theaters as he should.

PoP will either be a smash or it will flop. I hope and pray that it's the former. But regardless of how well it does in 2010, I think that Jake hoped it would lead to more interesting scripts coming his way, and my instinct is that it didn't. That's why his pr people are still talking about unscripted films like the Untitled Moon Movie project and Damn Yankees.

He's not getting the roles/scripts that he wants, and until that changes, the bearding will continue.

It's always amusing to read the rationalizations from the Jaustin true believers as they try to hang onto their fairytale with their fingernails.

All Ted did was reiterate the obvious. If Jake can continue to have his way, he will continue to beard with Reese for as long as possible and continue to keep Austin on the down low for the occasional fuck ( when he isn't engaging in anonymous fucks.) He's not in love with Austin, but he knows Austin will fulfill his sexual needs when needed and will not demand anything more. Austin is lucky Jake gives him the time of day and will put up with whatever Jake subjects him to.

I am going to assume that Austin is not in love with Jake either. Because if he is, he's an even bigger fool than I thought.

Regardless of the pedigree of Jake's films, it's been almost two years since one has played down at the local multiplex. There is no press for any of his films, (No official press, I should say. And we all remember how that Prince Dastan leaked pic turned out). Jake is not in the mags, on EW, blogged about because of his career.

He's known not as an actor, but as Reese's BF. He's become, through his own doing, I might add, just another prop for her, like the kids. Reese is out there promoting her films and Jake...? He's walking, slump shouldered, behind her.

By the time that either Brothers or Nailed hit the screens, what's going to be left of Jake?

His 'beard'.

Anonymous said...

He's not getting the roles/scripts that he wants, and until that changes, the bearding will continue.

Seems to me that if that hasn't changed after two years of bearding that maybe the bearding is part of the problem, along with poor career decisions, like holding out for projects until he won that Oscar (I'm sure that endeared him to produces), Rendition, whining about how hard Zodiac and Jarhead were to make, and being tabloid fodder, which I'm betting a lot of directors don't like. Ang Lee would never cast Jake in a movie today--look at all his movies, he always uses actors who keep a low profile.

Anonymous said...

Ang Lee uses the actor who will best suit the role. He doesn't care about the actor's private lives. People in Hollywood know the game, and they don't care about the bearding. There are plenty of them doing it. It's when your personal life affects how you conduct yourself on set, or you truly become a toxic object in the public eye, that it becomes an issue (see Lindsay Lohan).

Much of an actor's career is a crap shoot. RDJ is a great actor, but he wasn't setting Hollywood on fire recently until he landed Iron Man. The roles Heath had between Brokeback Mountain and TDK were good and intruiging ( and he was brillant), but they weren't setting Hollywood or the world on fire either.

I think Jake has proved that he has what it takes with the role of Jack Twist. But he's not a natural creative genuis like Heath, so I think he will experiment with different types of roles as he trys to both grow and have fun. I don't understand why some don't want him to try all of the types of roles he wants. How can you expect him to grow if he restricts himself to some kind of niche ( which only you approve of). I respect him for risking failure, for not accepting what others have told him are his limits and for wanting to also have fun. However, I do think that he won't really stretch to his fullest potentional in his current Hollywood environment. He's surrounded by too much mediocrity that will eventually stunt his growth. I would love for him to move to London or New York. I really think an extended change of creative environment will do wonders.

To be fair, I cannot see either Brothers or Nailed doing really very well.

Cinemas are struggling to fill seats now. The ONLY thing vaguely working is feel-good chick flicks, and hysterical animation gaffs like the appallingly-scripted Monsters vs Aliens (love the animation as ever but too much high pitched squawking and in-jokes for adults that kids are supposed to "get").

PoP might be Jake's best chance just based on the fact people are looking for escapism atthe cinema, not political movie or movies that make them "think". Thinking's off limits right now and it's a a recession for most places. Unless PoP is something really special it'll fly out the door like a fart in the wind. So to speak. Kids are what are carrying the industry right now. Kids and India.

The rest is all might be's and straight to DVDs. The heady 80s/90s days of films being a BIG DEAL in peoples lives are frankly, now over, I think.

MATTHEW McConaughey learned how to handle hotties from his dad. The "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" star tells next month's Men's Journal that his father, "Big Jim" McConaughey, once told him: "If you ever make a move, whether it's for a kiss or touching her down there, and you feel the slightest bit of resistance, stop. A lot of times, after you stop, they're going to then say, now it's OK. Don't. That time, that day, that's as far as you go." The actor says, "It's a great lesson. You do that, and you know what? Women do come back. They say, what? Nobody stops! They want to go out with you again. And eventually you don't have to stop."

Katie Cassidy talks about "Fencewalker"

In her recent interview for Collider.com, the multi-talented actress/singer/musician Katie Cassidy spoke about the upcoming top-secret Chris Carter drama Fencewalker.

Question: What can you say about Fencewalker and working with Chris Carter (The X-Files)?

Katie: Fencewalker was really great. It was actually really challenging for me to take on that role. I can’t say much about it, but I was going through a place in my life, while I was shooting that movie. I went through a difficult time, but it’s something that needed to happen, in order to get all the colors that Chris wanted out of this girl. That needed to happen to me. It was definitely an emotional experience, but nothing that I would ever take back. Chris Carter is a great director and a great writer. The script was amazing! And, I’m so happy to have been a part of something like that. It’s going to be really great. I think that will be out at the end of the year.

Question: Is it hard to keep working on projects that are so secretive?

Katie: I hate secrets! But, it’s fun. It is secret and you can’t talk about it. I’d love to sit here and tell you all about the things that I’ve gone through. It makes it a little difficult when it comes to stuff like this because I can’t really get too in-depth with any of it, as far as the storyline goes, but it makes it exciting.

This is a question for the people who follow Austin who may know about this. There used to be a writer of Brokeback slash who also claimed to work in pr in Hollywood and as a journalist and knew about Jake, Austin and Heath. I didn't knew whether to believe any of pr/journalist stuff or not. Took it with a grain of salt. Anyway, when Heath died she revealed her name and how she knew Heath. Seemed pretty credible.

Anyway, in a response to a comment on one of her stories, she once mentioned that Heath was an "issue" for Austin in real life. She never explained what she meant by that. Has anyone ever heard anything regarding some kind of friction with Heath and Austin? The only thing I could think she might mean is that Jake's crush on Heath was a problem for Austin. But maybe she meant something else.

I just thought about that today and was wondering if anyone ever heard anything regarding this tension.
April 05, 2009 9:41 PM

9:41, I know who you were talking about. She was a complete liar--she fabricated A LOT (incorporated some of her slash plots into her gossip about Jake, Austin and Heath. To give you an idea of how full of shit she was, she claimed she knew Jake and Austin's favorite sexual positions and when she was recounting certain "incidents" that had happened between them, she would recreate dialogue as if she was there. There were TOO many things she said that were ridiculous concoctions (and she wasn't a journalist--I'm a journalist so I knew she was lying). She never was consistent in her claims--a lot of what she said was taken from Ted, Lainey, gossip from the net and general industry gossip but she would embellish it with her lies (which she culled from her own slash).

She also hated Heath. He was a druggie, he was sullen, he wasn't as charming or as good looking as Jake who was perfect and wonderful and EVERYONE wanted to not only be him but seduce him because he was the greatest person who ever lived. I know a lot about her because I was in e-mail correspondence with her because I was curious (I'm a journalist--curiosity is my stock in trade) and NOTHING she claimed held up. She ended up deleting her LJ journal because she was full of shit and probably got too tired perpetuating the charade. But I will tell you whatever she said after Heath died was a total crock. She disliked him and said that he used to call Jake but Jake used to avoid Heath because he was a druggie--(yeah, Jake never had druggie friends or gfs--Kiki?).
April 05, 2009 9:52 PM

Here is what she told me about Jake/Heath and Austin:

She said Jake and Heath has a little fling in Calgary in the early part of the BBM shoot--they would sneak off on weekends to town and stay in motels under strange names. When Ang found out about it, he put a stop to it. Also, the second to last year of Heath's life ,he used to call Jake alot but Jake would avoid his calls because of Heath's sullen druggie ways. Austin didn't like Jake spending time with Heath. Also, Heath would call Jake and ask him if he wanted to come over and smoke pot and be in a threesome with either a boy hooker or a girl hooker but Jake said no. And Heath blamed Austin for Jake avoiding him, calling him a "fucking extra." (This is coming from somebody who was friends with many actors who were far less known than Austin). She claimed that Heath liked Jake a lot but was jealous of Jake because Jake had the better career (LOL). Jake had the better offers, better scripts, better family whereas Heath nearly wrecked his career due to his moody, druggie ways. (I kid you not). She did claim summer of 2007 that Jake was in bad shape--being self-destructive, sleeping with women to prove he was straight and worse (she thought I would actually think this was bad), he was (gasp) hooking up with Heath. I was excited to read the latter (I'm a Jake/Heath slash fan) and asked her for details about the latter but I never heard back--probably because I didn't register the right amount of disgust.

A liar and a fake. And do you guys honestly think Jake would avoid threesomes or sex with Heath?
April 05, 2009 10:01 PM

10:20, I guess you were a fan of hers. But YES she did tell me all of this in her private e-mail correspondence (which I still have). But clearly, I've wounded one of her fans but trust me she said ALL Of taht to me in e-mails. ALL OF THAT.
April 05, 2009 10:36 PM

April 05, 2009 10:37 PM

I am 9:41, and i read her all of her slash stories and the comments on them. She wasn't a Heath fan, but she never accused him of being a druggie or any of the other negative behavior that's just been mentioned here.

Her post after Heath's death was rather positive. She made reference to a note he sent her. She conveyed how sad and hurt she was.

She liked Heath enough; she just liked the pairing of Jake and Austin more. She was very upset about Reeke. It made her lose interest in writing about Jake and Austin. Maybe we are talking about different people. Like I said, at least in her comments on her LJ, she never said what the nature of the tension was between Heath and Austin was.

I want to be sure I understand, are you saying you sent her a private e-mail and that's where she told you all of this stuff about Jake and Heath hooking up? And if Austin didn't know about any of this, why would Heath be an issue?
April 05, 2009 10:49 PM

I can confirm that there are e-mails and that "she said ALL Of that to me in e-mails. ALL OF THAT" part is true.

There is no way for me to know if the person is really an insider.

It is possible that Jake/Austin and Jake/Heath did happen in real life.

3:57 PM, of course nothing can be ruled out completely, but IMO it stil looks like fanfic. She also seems quite biased towards Jake. Yes, I'm a fan of Jake and he is talented and charismatic. But why should Heath have been jealous of him? He was talented and charming himself. I think even a tad more respected in the industry even. His movie INT got prizes and there was buzz for him for TDK even during filming. It doesn't make sense! As for degrading Austin. Kane Manera, one of Heath's best friends, is a widely unknown soap opera actor! LOL. From all reports Heath wasn't a pretentious guy at all. Did Heath and Jake ever have a fling? Only Jake knows and he only. And he will never tell.

But if they are an integral part of the people they like (Jake) and necessary for the story... ;)

Hi, Jackie:

Thanks for your thoughts on the e-mails that the slash writer sent me regarding Jake/Heath/Austin. She did claim insider knowledge but the fact she was so clearly biased toward Jake , spoke nasty unwarranted shit about Heath and seemed to deify Jake and Jake/Austin relationship seemed very suspicious. It was clear she was embellishing on whatever gossip she had heard from the net, i.e. Ted C., Lainey, whomever.

Probably the BEST insider I ever met on the net is Heddalouella from fanchitchat. Have you guys ever heard of her? She does work in LA--in the industry and has the BEST gossip. She also doesn't deify ANYBODY. She tells it like it is (and yes, I do think she has insider knowledge because I'm a journalist and last year I was writing a story that concerned Warner Bros and I asked her for a source--and she gave me a great one).

is chuch trying to destroy Planet Heath on DCF? jealous much methinks

I'm only a lurker there but seems to me that forbidding chatting on any thread is the best way to kill it. I really don't know what's wrong with these DCF guys. One wonders why they allow these threads to be opened in the first place.

And about the people who claim that the slash writer would NEVER write RPS about someone they dislike...well, I asked her about that. And she told me given her druthers, she would only write Jake/Austin slash BUT many of her readers preferred Jake/Heath so she wrote that. As a writer, I understood that.

^ BINGO, lovehurt4ever put up with Heath, so she could write about Jake. Then she started with the Jake/Austin slash that had a much smaller audience so then she kept Heath around. Oh well, she wasn’t the greatest of writers anyway, not even close.

Hedda was also a really funny lady, a total riot. She was the best!!! I say "was" because sadly she's not posting anymore.

Well maybe he wasn't gay, but (I know I'm probably in the minority), I think he was either bi or bi curious.

lovehurt4ever thinks Heath was either bi or bi curious, too. I'm still trying to understand why would she hate Heath.

If she was still around you could ask her. ;) Maybe she'll come back some day?

5:19, I believe Hedda is working, which is probably why she's not posting. I remember last year she didn't post for a LONG while. I sent her a PM and then she responded a few months later telling me she had been working. She then started posting for awhile. She's a riot. By the way, a lot of what she told me about Jake/Heath/Austin sounded FAR more creditable than lovehurts4ever/Mantra (yes, that was her--I'll name her).

Well, what did she tell you? :)

Maybe she disliked him like some others because she thinks he hooked up with Michelle and had Matilda to prove he's straight? Maybe she thought he wanted to distance himself from Jake, that's what some BBM fans thought too.
Jake was by far much more popular among the BBM community and I noticed that some really disliked Heath before he died. I'm sure others noticed that too.

That doesn't make sense because Heath dated girls and women all the time, and there were no gay rumors about him.

E-Mail Recipient said...

Oh yes, lovehurts did tell me that Heath was HUGELY bisexual and that he got involved with Michelle because he basically hooks up with the first p___ that comes along and there was Michelle. She also said her and her friends theorized that Michelle probably seemed/felt like a boy because she's "androgynous." (Note from me: She is???)

Now Hedda told me (when Heath was still alive and still apparently with Michelle) that their breakup was impending because they were very incompatible. Michelle was a nag, always on Heath's case about everything, which supposedly he hated. Plus, Michelle REALLY wanted to marry Heath and he did NOT want to get married. And yes, he was a druggie, according to her but then this was not something the gossip columnists like Ted C hid from readers.

I asked Hedda about Jake/Heath. She didn't know or hear if they had hooked up but added it wouldn't surprise her. Nothing does in Hollywood. But she was emphatic in insisting that Jake was GAY GAY GAY. Austin was definitely his bf and that she had heard rumors (never confirmed) that Jake landed a few roles courtesy of the gay casting couch. Oh and I know many of you already know this, but Kirsten did get Austin that role in Wimbledon at Jake's request. But stuff like that goes on a lot in Hollywood (as it does in regular life--it's who you know).

She did speak a lot about poor Kiki--said she was a down and out druggie. And that when she made Marie Antoinette, Sofia had to drug-test her on a regular basis just to placate the insurers. (Kiki was clean during the filming of the movie).

She spoke (you'll all love this) VERY badly of Reese. HATES HER!! She said she was miserable toward Ryan, who took the fall for the divorce as the price he had to pay to get out of that bad marriage. Reese , according to Hedda, "nickled and dimed" Ryan for everything, even though she made FAR more money than he did. She called Reese a bitch, a phony and very unpleasant and wondered why Jake would beard with such a monster when he could have easily bearded with a nice girl like Anne Hathaway and someone else whose name I forgot.

I hope Hedda returns.

^ Heh, that's what you think sweets. Heath had gay rumours about him long before Brokeback Mt.

But he wasn't the only actor at the time. Not on the radar then to be important.

Just cuz you haven't heard them doesn't mean they weren't there.

Well if you followed that whole BBM promo tour and read comments regarding Heath and Michelle at the time, you'd know there was hostility towards them esp. Michelle.

5:36 PM your posts indicate you seem to believe these insider mails, I, on the other hand, don't. We have to agree to disagree regarding the credibility of these mails.

E-Mail Recipient said...

By the way, it's not like Jake was approached to beard with Anne--Hedda was just using Anne as an example of a "nice girl" he could have bearded with--and not a monster like Reese.

You'd have needed to be an OLD Datalounger years ago. Back in the old days before DL became a free for all for everyone and it was just a small gay enclave, there were stories about Ledger and his "roommate".

Mind you, back then we had some great pre-BBM, actually pre-Donnie Darko rare gems like the guy that claimed to have seen a young Jake G at Philly gay pride march. This was before Jake even got on the marginally-known radar.

Ah, the old days of DL...

Another rumour was that Heath and the guy from The Ring were an item.

Anonymous said...

(Note from me: She is???)

No Michelle is not androgynous, she's very feminine and gorgeous.
I truly believe Heath fell for her at first, like he did with many before her, and quickly lost interest again. He most likely wasn't ready for fatherhood either, since supposedly one of the reasons he and Watts broke up was his unwillingness to change and settle down. I think Michelle pulled the "accidental pregancy" balloney. H & M didn't come as a surprise.

Yes, if Jake is gay (not bi like I believe), he should have bearded with someone like Anne (although I hate the concept of bearding). Reese comes off as a major bitch.

This guy from the Ring is one of his friends from Australia, Martin Henderson.

Anonymous said...

^ Henderson could have been the roommate rumour actually.

When Heath came to LA to promo BBM before the Oscars that year, he did meet up in public with Henderson. They were pictured outside a bistro. That doesn't mean anything in itself, but they'd obviously stayed in contact, be it a friednship or per that gossip that he was some old time flame.

Martin is very attractive and perhaps more laid back on a wavelength with Heath that Americans couldn't be. He has beautiful eyes. I was always surprised he didn't get further in acting in Hollywood and is most lowkey these days.

However I'll settle for watching him in the Ring because that was a fine performance in itself.

I don't really believe they fucked but if true, hot!

Martin Henderson is one of Heath's old friends from Australia. I believed he did room with Heath when Heath was starting out. FYI, Martin went to Heath's memorial/funeral in Australia.

Anonymous said...

6:05 PM I agree, Martin is very cute and both he and Naomi Watts are good in The Ring.

Anonymous said...

Are you talking about her DCF or Fanchitchat posts?

To my knowledge, Hedda never posted on the DCF forums.

As for the big question marks about why Jake would choose a monster like Reese, I think some of you have always answered that question: Reese is a big fish in HW and Jake's former major "crush" (or former beard I should say) was also on the verge of becoming a big with Spiderman but chose the junky trail instead.

Anonymous said...

Reese was looking for a PR "boyfriend", Jake was "single" for a long time, Rendition, same CAA management... Reeke sounded like a great idea.
