There are the old clichés — go out at midnight and get her pickles or chocolate covered strawberries, whatever. Down through history we’ve been pretty clear how much a pregnant mother needs support. In fact one of our presidential candidates (who happens to be a mother) noted many years ago that it takes a village to raise a child.
But in the process of making In Utero, Kathleen and I discovered the profound importance of every single person around that pregnant mother. For instance, as Dr. Thomas Verny notes in Kathleen’s film, “Water is a better conductor of sound than air. So it is actually easier for the baby to hear inside the womb than it is for the baby to hear outside.”
Which means that a voice, any voice, is clearly heard by that little being. ...

After leaving the assembly, we heard rumors of Hollywood stars in the mix. Turns out Jake Gyllenhaal of gay cowboy fame was up in the rafters in a big beard and hat. We haven’t figured out his role in this yet but the lowdown seems to be a Born to Run movie in the works. They aren’t filming the movie right now. I am thinking they are doing some scouting and maybe some “day in the life” stuff so they can then portray it in a film? Six years ago today, Jake was in Colorado for the Leadville Trail 100 mile run, along with his brother-in-law. Peter Sarsgaard, Christopher McDougall, others, and the man of the hour....Austin Nichols. August 20, 2010. Brandon didn't identify Peter Sarsgaard, nor anyone else, just the more recognizable, Jake Gyllenhaal. True to form, the management troll whose reason for being is to monotonously convince the public that Jake and Austin are not a couple, argued vehemently about the ear on the fellow standing to the left of Jake, even enlarging another image of Austin for comparison's sake. The thing is, Brandon's original image is the clearest one we are going to get.
And seems to me now that I look at that long sideburn which runs from hair all the way down the jawline, I'm seeing a big "L". Was that for your movie "LOL", Austin? Or perhaps the "L" was for Leadville. LOLLLLLLL. Doesn't that look like a big L? A perfectly manicured and coiffed L. :-)

Jake and Austin sure seemed like they were enveloped in a Leadville induced postnatal fog after the birth of Baby Hugo earlier in the month of August. Perhaps, they risked being seen together for one last celebratory fling because the closet door was going to be shut tight soon thereafter. Austin had to return to North Carolina for his “One Tree Hill” duties. And, an already hardly working Jake essentially disappeared completely until the end of September 2010. He only remerged for Love and Other Drugs promo, and to become high profile tabloid fodder with the beard for hire, Taylor Swift, by the end of October.

Prairie Girl was on the hunt for shoes and socks today (inspired by Austin's interesting twit pic)and saw this picture from Leadville again. Most of the focus was if that Jake (Stand Up 2 Cancer hat) and Peter (fedora) but PG looked over the shoulder and saw someone else. The Twitter from Texas?
Now a little background, Austin had been Detroit the week before filming LOL in Detroit. On OTH they want him to look young, so nothing more scruff.
But for LOL he plays a teacher, he going to need to look older than the late teen/early 20 somethings in the movie playing high school kids, could that be explanation for the fuller beard and mustache? He finished filming on in Detroit on Thursday. This picture was taken on Friday.

I thought of all the hyper-libidoized tweets posted right after that extended Leadville excursion, Austin's selection of the term, sex and the city, was particularly clever. I suspect that cinematic reference had less to do with the physical act (although that was a side benefit) and more to do with a shout out to the movie that competed with Jake's "Prince of Persia" just three months earlier on Memorial Day weekend.
I know it's hard to believe now if you view the blithering prattle and juvenile "stunt" work Austin seems to embrace these days, along with his cretinous beard. But,believe it or not, the guy actually used to have functioning brain cells. Along, with some down-home self-respect.

Yeah, talk about a dream. Well, there was SXSW this past March. Sort of. LOL! It's hard to say now if that was by accident or was it Jake & Austin's sneaky way of getting an "Oops" photo op in to celebrate a birth of another one in Nov/December? I don't think we'll ever know which it was. So many indications now that these two guys did have another baby late last year.
Jake & Austin are so deep in the closet now, it's hard to believe that they used to go biking and walking together in photo ops. 2012 was the last year where they went out together intentionally for the cameras. 4 years ago.

"It is Nichols."
One year ago today, August 23, 2015, we had another Jake and Austin sighting. This time there was no blurry picture involved. No video to be viewed. No Vine, Vimeo, Snapchat, Periscope, or Livestream.
We had a good old vintage, in-person sighting by a long-time friend of Oh My Godot's Special K. Seems that her pal just happened to be eating in Koreatown at 10:03pm Central Standard Time, which translates to 8:03pm Pacific Time. He initially recognized Jake and mentioned that he was eating with a guy who had curly hair. After some back and forth phone texting, it was confirmed that Jake was dining out with Austin that Sunday evening in Koreatown.
Only three days later past the anniversary of their Leadville, Colorado trip, the guys had stepped out on a late evening and shared a meal for two, in a neighborhood near where Jake said he grew up.

Makes you feel kinda warm and fuzzy inside. Just a nice old- fashioned dinner out. No frills or fuss. What do you think? I like it. :-) For all the headaches one can get from the eyerolls at the PR and social media shenanigans with these two, this is what I continue to see signs of - that Jake and Austin still have a tie that binds. Has to be a love that binds. Gotta be. And it's what keeps me rooting for them. May they never lose each other and the simple date nights like this.
