More often than not, strolling on the streets of Manhattan with her pal has built Greta Caruso into somewhat of a staple in the Lilliputian inner circle that has come to be known as Jake World. We don't see him hanging with Busy Phillips any longer. Nor is he seen with Natalie Portman like he was in the early days. Even his old standby, Sibling Sis has receded lately into the background, although no doubt she will reappear when needed. Somehow, Ms. Caruso is the one exception to this perplexing pattern. As recently as (allegedly) July 31, she reappears.
Not surprisingly, every phrase in the established Jake lexicon has been used to try to identify exactly who Greta is. We know she appeared from out of nowhere in New York at 22 years of age, a recent Yale graduate and single. Not surprisingly, the label "girlfriend" has been applied at least once or twice because let's face it, if Jake can be paired romantically with 69 year old Susan Sarandon and 50+ actress Julianne Moore, that alone should buy Greta a Get Out of Jail Free card as a qualified "girlfriend." Not exactly a lie either. Ms. Caruso is a girl and she is a friend.

The set was entitled "Out With Friends in New York City" and featured Jake, Chris Fischer and Greta Caruso. Just Jared was quick to note that the October 19 pics were the first time for Greta to be seen with Jake, but actually these photos from late September came first.

Interestingly enough, October 19 was just shortly after an important date in the Gyllenhaal family history. While September 28 preceded that date. Almost like two bookends. The important day in question, was actually in the middle, the day Ramona Sarsgaard was born, October 3.
So if Greta was seen leaving Maggie's apartment (and re-entering with food), was this first appearance affiliated more with Maggie having recently given birth and perhaps in need of a personal assistant, i.e., nanny? Or, as Jake's friend?

And I think this is why the sets of pictures were separated in the October 19 set, so that there wasn't a distinct correlation with Greta and Maggie. Greta would be used in the future as Jake's cover. Much like Maggie being the one to likely set up Kirsten Dunst with Jake.
Plus, being a nanny for Ramona would give Greta a "trial run" so to speak with the Gyllenhaal family, should she go on to provide nanny-ship duties for Jake and Austin with their soon-to-be sprouting family. This thought just occurred to me as well as it becomes more and more clear that Maggie sure has a hand in pruning people into Jake's life. So does Naomi, the matriarch.
After all, note what that Anon said in the IHJ thread - that Greta's mother, Rachel Ticotin, was Naomi's friend. I have no doubt that Mother Naomi contributed to the introduction of Greta into Jake's future.

There was also the BI awhile back that alluded to the fact that Kirsten knew he was gay early in their relationship, became his beard and his best friend, and started to get really angry when he started to flaunt his relationship with the new guy - not only out of jealousy because they were so close, but also because her career and reputation was on the line as well, and she thought it was stupid that he was so brazenly cavorting with another guy and making her look dumb. I always really bought that BI, it makes alot of sense. Daniel Espinosa’s Life is gearing up for some fierce competition. Sony Pictures had originally slated the film for March 24, 2017, but Deadline reports that the studio is now bullish on the film after seeing the production dailies, and so they’ve now moved it to Memorial Day weekend, May 26, 2017.
For those who are unfamiliar with Life (a film that could really use a title change), the premise is Alien meets Ten Little Indians as the crew of the International Space Station “retrieves the Mars rover with a soil sample that has a fossilized organism. They rebuild it and it comes to life as the first alien species. As it starts to grow, one by one the species starts to kill off the 10 astronaut-crew.” More proof that science and discovery will only end in trouble.
Although the film features talented actors like Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Rebecca Ferguson, as well as boasting a script from Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, it will still have some intense competition over the Memorial Day weekend. Life will be going up against Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (although who knows how much luster the franchise has lost since its last entry) and an untitled Universal comedy starring Zach Galifianakis, Bill Hader, and Seth Rogen.
It should be a big weekend at the multiplex, although it remains to be seen how that weekend fares for quality. Most films that open on Memorial Day weekend are surprisingly poor. While I’m not expecting much from Pirates 5, Life sounds intriguing, and I’m hoping that it delivers on its promise.
Meanwhile, back on March 24th, Power Rangers and Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword will now have some breathing room.
