It totally came out of the blue. I got a text Sunday from a long time friend that said,
"I'm in a restaurant in Koreatown, and you favorite actor is here"
Now my friend knows I'm a big Jake fan. To the extent of the whole OMG thing - no, but he knows I've been a fan for years. He never texts or even mentions about the people he meets in the course of the production work he does so getting a text from him about Jake I know is the real deal.
And then it began:

him: We're not hanging out together, K. :)

him : From what I see.

There is definitely some kind of PR arrangement between Mumford and Jake when it comes to helping to distract from Austin. The magazine actually asserts Gyllenhaal has a “five-point plan” to win Swift back. His alleged strategies include helping her to become a movie star, publicly apologizing for their breakup, allowing her to use his name in song lyrics, agreeing to get married within two years, and finally, being a “stay-at-home dad” while she focuses on her career.
“If Taylor agrees to give Jake another go, he’s ready to fulfill all five promises,” the made-up “source” tells the tabloid. The so-called insider even goes on to allege that Swift is “intrigued” by Gyllenhaal’s offer.
Raise your hand if you believe any of this “five-point plan”? Yeah, we didn’t think so either.
Albeit creative, the entire story is beyond ridiculous and untrue. Interestingly, Gossip Cop previously corrected the Enquirer years ago when it attempted to sell this same story, but in reverse. Originally, the tabloid had said that Swift was the one trying to win Gyllenhaal back. Much like that tall tale, this new version is also false. A source close to Gyllenhaal tells Gossip Cop this new, laughable report is just “completely insane.”

The Actor: Fame Really Does Suck for (Some of) Them

There's a misconception that actors are narcissists. Yes, there's a subgroup of people who love being in the limelight and it's often born out of wanting attention. But for the majority of my clients, acting is driven by a deep creative need. If they become successful stars, though, fame may collide with the work itself. They may get overwhelmed by Hollywood politics or by fans who idealize them. The pressure to live up to expectations — to be funny, attractive, young, stylish — can be exhausting. Often they don't feel safe going out. People try to find out where they live or follow them. They may have false lawsuits thrown at them and dangerous exploitation. People project their anger and envy, and that can be disorienting.
It's hard for people to believe that, amid the accolades, many people in the spotlight don't feel seen. There's often a disconnect with how they're treated and who they really are. The constant scrutiny adds to that experience. If they're quiet, they're depressed or hiding something or their marriage is on the rocks. If she has a drink, she's an alcoholic. If he has dinner with someone, he must be having an affair. It takes a lot of energy to locate themselves amid this projection.

Many actors yearn to let down their guard. When people pretend too much, they often become very depressed. But when they allow themselves to be vulnerable in public, they can be blindsided. Here's one example: Somebody completely makes something up about them — in this Internet age, rumors and lies are spread to tens of millions of people. If they defend themselves, it can feed the media like fuel on a fire. If they do nothing, the story can grow and then they feel trapped and exposed to ridicule. So they often live very guarded lives. Sometimes they don't feel they have anywhere they can be real. And who is going to have empathy with them for how they feel? They are making millions of dollars and there are incredible advantages in society with being a celebrity.
When they come into therapy, however, they get a chance to be who they really are. I've had people who were so depressed, they have withdrawn from the world, people who have stopped working for years. These are people who love to work. I help actors find strategies for surviving and navigating that world without shutting down. Sometimes there is a period of grieving, giving up the illusion of what celebrity was going to fill. They gain perspective on who they really are and whom they trust. What's most important is that they start to feel real again. — As told to Degen Pener

If someone in LA can poke around the restaurants Toothful frequents lately, I'm sure we can find a giant underground tunnel. Beneath Sugarfish, Bestia, Korean restaurants, heck even the coffee houses and soul cycle and yoga/pilate classes...lies such a tunnel that interconnects all these storefronts. While theatre nerds everywhere were overjoyed to see Ellen Greene reprise her role in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS at ENCORES! this summer, many were surprised to learn who her co-star was.
Greene originated 'Audrey' in the original stage and movie versions of Alan Menken/Howard Ashman's first hit, so she basically is LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, just like Colm Wilkinson is LES MISERABLES. In the role of 'Seymour' at ENCORES! was film actor Jake Gyllenhaal. (Check out production shots here!) Though most of us think of Gyllenhaal as the kid from the 1999 film OCTOBER SKY who grew up to receive an Oscar nomination for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN and has of late sported a rockin' beard, many people may not know that he has also graced both the London and Broadway stages.
With these credits under his belt, and of course his celebrity status, might a Broadway musical be Gyllenhaal's next venture? Maybe so! The critics loved him in LITTLE SHOP, and Ben Brantley of the New York Times said, "This production confirmed that Jake Gyllenhaal, as Ms. Greene's nebbishy love interest, is one of the few American movie stars who was also clearly meant to be a stage star. If celebrity is too much, if they can't handle it, there are other options to enjoy acting - Hollywood isn't the only place to be creative. Ergo, no need to feel sorry for them or see them as Hollywood game victims.
