The most difficult scene was the paragraph where, on the mountain, Ennis holds Jack and rocks back and forth, humming, the moment mixed with childhood loss and his refusal to admit he was holding a man. This paragraph took forever to get right, and I played Charlie Haden's and Pat Metheny's Spiritual, from their album Beyond the Missouri Sky (short stories) uncountable times, trying to get the words. I was trying to write the inchoate feelings of Jack and Ennis, the sad impossibility of their liaison, which for me was expressed in that music. To this day, I cannot hear that track without Jack and Ennis appearing before me.

Annie Proulx, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Shipping News and the short story Brokeback Mountain, celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center’s restoration with a public reading and book signing in Kyle. Proulx spoke of the letter she recently received in the mail from a rodeo performer who appreciated Heath Ledger’s attention to detail in the portrayal of Ennis Del Mar in the movie Brokeback Mountain. Proulx addressed the fact that she doesn't like to read fiction unless forced or paid and spoke on familial ties to Wyoming.
JG: Has Katherine Anne Porter influenced your writing?
AP: When I was a kid we lived in North Carolina and I read Katherine Anne Porter for the first time when I was a young teenager (there). I remember being absolutely blown away. I don’t think I can say I was influenced, but I have returned to her stories now and again with great pleasure and find them still enormously powerful.
JG: Do you care to comment on the article (Annie Proulx: Blood on the red carpet) you wrote about Brokeback Mountain’s Oscar losses?
AP: Before the Academy Awards, I was going to write a piece for the Guardian about the Academy Awards and I expected, and they expected, it was going to be about the gowns. I was very disappointed that Heath Ledger did not receive the much-deserved award and I know that he had pulled the characterization of Ennis Del Mar out of his gut. I think he had called on his gay uncle to help him with a lot of his scenes. I felt very highly of Heath. It was a great tragedy when we lost him.
JG: What did you think of Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance in Brokeback Mountain?
AP: I think he’s a sweet boy.

Jake Gyllenhaal is back in LA after a flying visit to the Sundance Film Festival. There is a good excuse why new signers on (ie Jake) at the WME Agency may be looking tired. The WME party was so rumbustious that it had to be shut down by the police due to what sounds like a gatecrashing issue. Of course, we don't know if Jake was there (officially or as a gatecrasher) but one has to say that gatecrashers may be a consequence of having a party with Jake at it. Possibly. While Jake was at Sundance he was seen at a gig by Quit Mumbling (another tweet here).

•Sundance Film Festival 20...Officers were called to a private residence in the tiny Deer Valley section of Park City around 1 a.m. after the property manager for the home arrived and found a packed house of revelers. WME's indie division traditionally hosts a small gathering for clients and other industry insiders at the home where its agents stay during the festival, but this year's fete was much larger, according to those who were there.
"It was totally packed," says an insider. "You could barely move around."
WME agents had sent out an email invite days before the event to a few "targeted" industry insiders and talent with projects at the festival. But the invite made its way to a much broader audience, prompting the overcrowding.
When the property manager for the residence arrived, an attendee says the manager informed the hosts that the party was not authorized and that the police had been called. When officers arrived, guests scattered in an orderly fashion, and no incidents or arrests were reported.

I agree with Nixon on one point: Our rights as gay people should have nothing to do with whether or not our orientation is a choice, any more than our religious freedom. It doesn't matter how we got here, as she says. We are here. This is the way we are and we have a right to equal protection of the law.

I do too; personally I think that you are born with sexuality just as you are with other traits, but I'm no scientist or expert. In the event that people could choose, that should not be an issue - it shouldn't matter.

Some people are just bisexual and can live a straight life for years then live a same sex life for years. Who's to say they won't start living a straight or, life with an opposite sex partner again. These are real bisexual people and women "mostly" live this more openly than men. Men "Hide" this and won't speak on it out of fear of being alienated, Women don't and wont!

^^ I agree and understand this also. I'm not a scientist either, but for me, I believe people are born straight, gay or bisexual! I also believe that most people, especially (MEN) won't talk about being bi or having bi tendencies / thoughts.
Growing up, most teens realize and know of friends who seem to be leaning more bisexual. We see them, we know them, they are close friends. Most of these people settle in straight relationships. We also know and realize the friends who are totally straight and the ones who are totally gay.
My point, most of us see and realize the friend who (would and may) play for both teams. "Bisexual" So they should NOT be labeled as GaY and don't have to.
The B in LGBT does have a meaning people. They're just not well represented and chastised from both sides.
