August 4, 2010 - Proposition 8 ruled unconstitutional‎

From the ruling: "Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California constitution the notion that opposite sex couples are superior to same sex couples."

or he and Heath didn't keep in touch I don't know.

I think more details will come out (no pun) sooner or later. A good, biography will probably be written by someone who knew Heath and his life. He had many artist-type friends so maybe it will be one of them.

Anonymous said...

Why do people insist that they weren’t really friends or close? They both said they were.

Keanu and Sandra stayed friends but we never see them together. But we know that he was one of a few HW friends who went to her wedding.

Anonymous said...

I think some people here don't realise how short was the time Jake and Heath got to share together.

A few weeks filming and then promoting a movie, then a couple of weeks more for the awards season. Appart of that, Heath got monopolized by new family life and important work and personal projects, Jake was busy with his own stuff and closet issues. Add to this that they were located each one across the country.

Sandra B. and Keanu R. have 10 years of nurturing their friendship.

But,who knows? Maybe H & J were destined to be great friends but life and death teared then apart before that. But I don't see how they anaged to make a strong bond if they barely spent quality time together.

JMO.

Whether Jake is a liar or he and Heath didn't keep in touch I don't know.

Of course they didn't keep in touch, Jake loves lying about dead people.

Anonymous said...

Ive said this before. Jake does not command the movie screen. An essential element to being an A list superstar. Heath had it. Even in small roles your eyes were drawn to him whoever else was on the screen. Jake got away with not having it in his early films. But hes getting lost in the shuffle as he makes adult age films. He belongs on TV. He killed on SNL. He can command the TV screen.

Anonymous said...

Jake said in an interview that he didn't notice anything wrong/strange about Heath before he died."
He's full of shit. Or he hadn't spent any time with Heath before he died.

Neither.

ANYBODY with two eyes...
NO ONE said anything about it, no one mentioned drug use, no one said Heath was in trouble. No one. And you can bet that Heath's friends and family feel guilty and wonder if they could save him.

Why do people insist that they weren’t really friends or close?

I couldn’t tell you exactly why I think they weren’t close, maybe because they seemed strained around each other. In the Oprah interview I thought they lacked the easiness they seemed to have with their respective friends. I’m not saying they didn’t like each other, just probably not enough to stay close after their promo duties no longer required it.

Then there’s the thing everyone already knows: we never saw or heard about them together. If they really spent time together why would they hide? BBM was behind them and other than fans no one would’ve made a big deal out of it.

Anonymous said...

Not true about Heath. His look was being discussed regularly with alarm on dc forum. Too bad there was no way to share the comments with Heath himself. Or his handlers.

I agree about Jake not being leading A man material. I have a couple of movie fanatic friends who write about film and they were both amazed that Jake would be in a movie like POP for that very reason.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone else find the Source code pic boring. Personally I think part of POPs failure in the US was due to those first leaked pics of Jake with a bare chest long hair and hands on hips. Set him up as a laughingstock from the get go. The new Source Code pic makes him look wimpy.

If there are no paparazzi pictures then it did NOT happen!
Johnny Depp and Heath didn't know each other, Terry is lying and Johnny used Heath to for publicity.

What Jake was supposed to say?
-"Oh,yeah,the man was a mess, he looked like shit before he died, probably cauz he was doing drugs like crazy"

We all know something was wrong with him only by looking a pic of him. What it still amazes me is how fast he deteriored. Maybe we or people close to Heath didn't know WHAT was happening, but obviously something bad was going on.
Jake just tried to make a discreet comment, that's all.

Anonymous said...

But I don't see how they anaged to make a strong bond if they barely spent quality time together. JMO.

Why do you base your opinion on your "Jake is lying about Heath" mantra? I can imagine only one answer to that.

HIDE????

What else would you call it then? In the 2 years following BBM no one was bound to spot them somewhere and post in on the internet? Maybe I could have believe it had they not been sighted plenty with other buddies. Or are you suggesting they only saw each other in the privacy of their homes? That would be hiding seeing as how they enjoy(ed) spending time out with they friends.

Because some people refuse to except the truth and would do anything to reduce Heath to "just another colleague".

Ask people who can't stand the thought of Jake and Heath being friends. Too bad they will just continue to play dumb.

I would think "Heath, just another colleague" would be great for most posters given the opinions of Heath here. Why would anyone want Jake, even in the past, around a man they think so little of is beyond me.

Anonymous said...

I think people lie about a lot of things, but I think they had a friendship. They did a movie in an isolated place and they promoted the movie together. They also had a lot of hate thrown at them. People bond over all those things. They both seem to keep some friends for decades.

I don’t think they had sex. I think they were friends. I think they kept in touch. It has been reported that both emailed, text and called friends and family all the time. Especially when they were on sets. There is also Skype.

My BFF lives many states away and we email back and forth 10, 20 30 times a day. You don’t have to be near each other to be close.

That being said, we will never know the truth. I don’t believe any book will have the truth. Maybe when M is older and she says something about her godparents.

I just can’t stand all these people who want to paint Jake as a liar. Why are you here?

And, even if Jake thought there was something was wrong with Heath he wasn’t going to say it to the press. “Yes, we all knew he was on drugs and he wouldn’t stop.” That would go over well.

Anonymous said...

Matilda writing a book about her godparents????? Even if there is an editor with enough shit in his head to pay for that, Matilda had 2 years old when Heath died, she doesn't remember her father or Jake's visits to him when he was alive.

Yo are right about everything else on the post.

Yes, there is because the people who lived with them and knew them aren't dead. As long as these people are alive there's always the chance someone will talk.

Re Jakes leading man quality - yesterday I watched Tom Hardy in "The Take", a UK TV adaption of a crime thriller. During the three hours I watched a man who made me want to vomit, who I hated, sometimes felt pity for. And after it was over I realised that not once I had thought "Ah thats Tom, he is so sexy, love him". He completely disappeared in the character.
Heath had this quality too.

And I am not sure whether Jake will be able to merge into a character and make people forget "This is Jake" I am sure it will be the same in LAOD. You will always see Jake but not the salesman Jamie. BBM was the only exception, at least for me.

Perhaps he is not interested in getting roles where he has to "bleed" for his craft? Or he is not able to?

It will be very interesting to observe his next project.

Anonymous said...

I'll tell you this, you don't want Heath's friend who confirmed Jake didn't attend either one of Heath's LA memorials to talk because who knows what other gems he’s sitting on? Although anything you don't want to hear would be spun into the usual 'he doesn't know anything'. NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING. NO ONE! ONLY JAKE AND JAKE ALONE. Everyone else is blind and deaf.

Anonymous said...

Some of you are talking like Jake's career is over. He'll only be 30 this year and he has an Oscar nod and a Bafta under his belt. It doesn't look good but it's nothing a couple of successful movies won't fix. Let's wait and see how LAOD and SC turn out before we declare him finished.

destiny said...

I think leading man material does not necessarily mean great actor. I agree that Jake doesn't tend to disappear into his roles, don't know if that is his style of acting, the roles, or maybe just his looks and those big eyes of his.

Plenty of A list stars don't have much range, Clooney for example. But he has that quality that catches your eye and interest.

Jake's appeal is very quiet, except for Bubble Boy. I think jake could really shine in screwball comedies and musicals.

Anonymous said...

He completely disappeared in the character.
Heath had this quality too.

ITA. I think Jake is a very talented actor, but I'm not convinced yet that he can manage that "disappearing" act. I think LAOD seems like a good role for him and I'm sure he'll give a solid performance (I don't think he's ever given a bad performance and I think he's given some great ones). But when I watched the trailers I felt like I was watching a version of Jake that I've seen in interviews - flirty, charming, confident, aware of his looks and how to use them to his advantage. I know there's a serious element to the movie, too, but I don't know that it's going to allow him to disappear into the character.

Anonymous said...

1. that woman is Heath's fan, not his friend
2. the woman wasn't there, she didn't attend any memorials.

So does JGL. You don't recognize him in his characters. Arthur, Neil McC, Brendan, Dr. Don, Hesher, Tom Hansen. This is a quality I admire in an actor also, it's what true acting is all about, and I think Jake has it to a degree also, depending upon what roles he chooses. He became Jack so completely and convincingly.

I haven’t seen enough of Hardy’s movies to say yes or no, but it isn’t always true for Heath and JGL.

Stop generalizing. It depends on the movie.

For example if the actor disappeared for me (I’m not listing all the movies/tv shows I saw them in-I see a lot of movies and I could go on and on)

Heath- The Order-no, 10 things-no, knights tale-no, Casanova-no, Monster’s ball-yes, BBM-Yes, batman-Yes, Candy-yes

JGL- 500 days-no, Havoc-no, Brick-yes, Mysterious Skin-yes, Inception-almost (I still see him as a little kid on Roseanne)

Jake-Bubble boy-no, L&A-no, Day after-no, PoP-no, Moonlight Mile-yes, Good girl-yes, Donnie d-yes, October sky-yes, Jarhead- Yes, BBM-Yes

The yes and no’s don’t have anything to do about how I felt about the movie as a whole or whether I enjoyed it or not.

Anonymous said...

Jake had so much promise to be a terrific actor. He showed improvement with each film and then bowled us over with Jack Twist. We are not suggesting that his career is over. Just that he has never been as good as Jack Twist in any film since BBM. Each performance since then seems to get a little worse not better.

Anonymous said...

I think Jake has lost the ability to lose himself in a part. He filmed Zodiac before bbm came out and the director mocked him for being earnest. I think the backlash (and there was a lot) from bbm scared him. I think being insulted by the Zodiac director hurt him. I think then had some emotional issues (I’m talking about his parents divorce and I think his grandmother died, too-you can choose to include Heath’s death if you want to, but you don’t have to). Brothers was before a lot of emotional trauma and he had his old friend Nat working with him. After that, I think he picked safe movies where he didn’t have to be emotional-PoP and Nailed. I think he felt safer with Anne so LAOD may be a step forward. It may be a silly naked romp movie, but it had illness and sadness too. In the trailer, there is a clip of him running into a hospital hallway looking for Anne’s character. His face had the right emotions so I am hopeful. I don’t know the actual storyline of SC so i don’t know what to expect. I hope it turns out well.

I’m sure his ego grew, too. Hopefully that has been slapped down so he can get better.

Hopefully he will be able to get to the place where he allows himself to be naked (and I don’t mean physically) on screen. We shall see.

I wonder if he really wants to be an actor. Maybe when he was younger it pleased him to please his parents, maybe his heart isn’t in it anymore. Maybe he would rather do something else and it comes out on screen.

What does that mean exactly? I'm not being sarcastic. I just never "got" what it meant and why Fincher would dislike/mock Jake for it.

I just looked it up. tbh it doesn't sound like a bad attribute or something to be made fun of. It's like mocking honesty. ?? IMO Fincher is very dominating and likes to keep the upper hand on people, by always keeping them guessing if they have his approval, and one of the ways is downgrading one of their good qualities and making fun of it. I've worked for a couple of men like that, it's how they stay in control and use their power to always seem better than others. Underneath, though, they are empty and pathetic.

JGL didn’t disappear into his character in Inception. The reason he got the most attention from the Inception cast is because he was in the badass zero gravity scene but there’s no character development and it wasn’t a demanding role. Any so-so actor could’ve played Arthur. He was much better in Mysterious Skin.

Jake was great in Jarhead, DD and TGG, in BBM he was perfect. When I watch him as Jack Twist there isn’t one moment when I think this guy is acting. I agree with 2:30 AM though, he hasn’t been as good since. I think he needs a filmmaker and/or a co-star who can motivate him and push him enough to get another Jack Twist caliber performance out of him. It’s there in him. I had hoped playing next to Anne again would stimulate Jake more but from the trailers I don’t think this performance will be more than solid. Jake has always been solid in films but it’s not enough anymore, he needs to shine again. I hate seeing actors like Ryan Reynolds and Chris Pine get the roles Jake wants so Jake better not waste any more time and show everybody he still got it. His next projects will be very important.

Anonymous said...

IA with what you said 6:15. I also think one of the problems is that HW isn't writing any different interesting characters or storylines. How invested can Jake, or anyone else, get with so-so pickings? I know if it was me, if all that existed was same old stories and unoriginal characters, I'd be phoning in my acting. HW writers and whoever chooses the scripts, in my opinion is 80% at fault for the lack of quality performances.

Well, Summit was also behind The Hurt Locker and Jeremy Renner wasn't and isn't bearding. So your theory that Jake will be bearding for Source Code may not happen. Let's hope it doesn't.

I don't know, I saw lots of character suggested in Arthur. His dress, mannerisms, and just maybe a heart under his tough exterior, maybe a bit of impatient know-it-all, a some subtle stuff. There were lots of beautiful subtleties that all the actors portrayed in Inception. JGL played him well, and for me, I didn't see JGL, I saw Arthur. I wonder if there would be a sequel? There's a ton of stories left to tell about dream thieves and dream police, it seems to me.

I agree, whether an actor disappears totally into the character has no bearing on whether the movie is good or not. It's just extra.

Anonymous said...

I also agree that maybe Jake was just too effin' good as Jack, and while he'll have great roles, maybe nothing can match that. And that ain't bad. We'll see.

Inception - although not a character driven film - was perfect for the reputation of everyone involved, especially Joe and Tom Hardy.

Women are drooling over them, the kiss scene, the famous line "you mustn´t be afraid of dreaming a little bigger darling" blabla but more important the guys are also impressed and both are seen as "badass". You just have to look at the reactions when the news came out that Tom replaced M. Fassbender in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy".

Never underestimate the fanboys -

Openly gay UK actor Russell Tovey plays straight in new sitcom:

An Essex geezer who ran away from his parents' airport coach-shuttle business to join the acting circus. A birrova dweeb who used to collect coins, was a teenage metal-detecting enthusiast, and gets positively rhapsodic when we discuss London's blue plaques ("I saw Sylvia Plath's in Primrose Hill the other day!") and Britain's royal history. "I was obsessive about Edward the Seventh, the Boy King. I thought that was incredible – an eight-year-old who went to the throne! The Tudors are the most fascinating period, aren't they?"

In sum, he's a blokey-bloke Essex-geezer history-buff dweeb who's gay.

"I sort of challenge people's perceptions of what a gay man is," he offers, "which is kinda good. A lot of people become mates with me and say, 'Let's go and watch football together...' Not that I watch football, but they assume that I'm straight, then they get to know me and realise I'm not. And I think by that point, they go, 'Oh, actually, I like him, he's all right...'"

"All right for a poof..." I say.

"Yeah!" he laughs, "they do say stuff, like, which is incredibly offensive! But it's done in a charming way that you can't really pick 'em up on it – 'Um, you're not actually allowed to use that word...'"

being earnest.

What does that mean exactly? I'm not being sarcastic. I just never "got" what it meant and why Fincher would dislike/mock Jake for it.

I'll try to answer this earnestly, but it is just my own opinion.

Fincher is notorious for doing tons of takes and it drives some actors nuts. He joked about doing multiple takes in Zodiac: “I hate earnestness in performance . . .Usually by Take 17 the earnestness is gone.” But Jake's mousy earnestness in Zodiac was a component of his screen character, so Fincher was joking in part - he was trying to refine, not eliminate it.

Still, earnestness in in acting is not a good thing. It can also be described as an excess of sincerity. You come across as pious or as someone who is trying too hard. It makes your performance "mushy," my acting teacher used to say.

"He's nice, but he's just too earnest. Where's the edge?"

It is possible that Fincher was frustrated with Jake's lack of edge. I think that's one of his problems as an actor. It prevents him from being fully believable as a badass, a villain, a CIA agent, a warrior, or anything other than a nice, mild-mannered, sensitive boy with a few issues. Which is what he's played in most of his movies.

Earnestness in acting can also be an outgrowth of self-consciousness. Unskilled actors are too conscious of the fact they are "acting." Good acting is about the removal of self-consciousness. To believably disappear into a role, an actor needs to lose himself and not worry about how he looks. De Niro as Travis Bickle and Jake La Motta. Daniel Day-Lewis as Christy Brown and many others.

Richard Dreyfuss: "Self-consciousness is the anticipation of being silly and often is the spoiler for many actors."

Nice that Jake is still on MV. The weather and the ocean waves are quite gorgeous after the hurricane. Hope he had a nice cozy time. :)

"It is possible that Fincher was frustrated with Jake's lack of edge. I think that's one of his problems as an actor. It prevents him from being fully believable as a badass, a villain, a CIA agent, a warrior, or anything other than a nice, mild-mannered, sensitive boy with a few issues. Which is what he's played in most of his movies."

The only real badass scene I can remember was in Jarhead where he hits that other guy.

Great post, 2:04PM. That is all so true and something I've always sensed, but I'm not an actor and I couldn't have put it into words. DDL does have that ability and it makes his praise for Heath even more meaningful and touching.

Prince (of Persia) Jake Gyllenhaal has an upcoming movie with his Brokeback Mountain co-star Anne Hathaway entitled Love & Other Drugs. And the sexy picture above, which have been circulating the net, is rumored to be from the film.

Kenneth Walsh, though, says it’s a hoax due to the lack of chest hairs.

Could be NSFW

"I wonder who'll be the better Marilyn, Michelle or Naomi."

Marilyn Monroe was a sexy, but vulnerable woman who actually had curves - she would be considered "fat" in Hollywood today.

And I am sorry, but I don´t see M. Williams play this woman. She might gain some wight for the role but Marilyn had this charisma and the aura - Michelle does not have it and I don´t think she will be able to fake it.

Just saw Cat's Mew, a movie where Dunsts plays a starlet from the silent movies era, the lover of magnate Hearst. (The rest of the cast in British so it's not a bad film.)
She could be a Greta Garbo in a biopic, if some director could see it - she has the right mix of acting fakeness, morbid eyes and classical facial features.

Dunst said...

Greta who?

I thought we put this to bed several days ago. Of course it's shopped. We don't need Kenneth telling us. The other day Stephanie from IHJ posted the pic used for this photoshopped pic as well. And if anyone actually spent any time looking at Jake's face then you'd know he doesn't have a cleft chin (like the Jake in the photoshoppped pic does).

Huh???

One more time - 6:00 AM post is about "sexy picture, which have been circulating the net and is rumored to be from the film". Photoshopping is very good, LAOD has a lot of nudity, so it is possible that some people will believe it.

Exclusive: Queen Latifah's trainer Jeanette Jenkins tells us "I'm not gay" said...

Let's clear something up right away: The rumors about Jenkins and Latifah dating are not true, according to Jenkins, who tells us she's straight.

"I have gay friends, but I'm not gay," Jenkins said. She also indicated the gossip about her online and in magazines is nothing but fiction, and she's less bothered by paparazzi than the lack of fact-checking by journalists.

"The first blog that writes a story gets picked up by everybody else as what really happened," Jenkins said. "No one ever tries to call the person and get an interview."

When I asked her if she was open to speaking about her personal life to someone who did want an interview, she said no. "Doesn't that feel strange, telling someone you don't know about your private life?" she asked. "My private life is for me and the people that know me."

Lostprophets' Ian Watkins In Gay Sex Scandal?! said...

When will celebrities learn that if they do anything even slightly risqué there is no doubt that it will end up in the press!

Case in point, Ian Watkins, lead singer of pop rock band Lostprophets who has allegedly been caught out in a gay sex scandal.

The pretty boy singer has been reportedly caught red handed, so to speak, with explicit photos of what looks like him engaging in sexual shenanigans with another man. You can see the photos (if you so wish) on Perez Hilton.com. Natch!

Ian has had a string of girlfriends including UK DJ Fearne Cotton and Marissa Festa, the current girlfriend of AFI's Jade Puget. We wonder what they will make of this latest revelation?

But the singer has just tweeted: "I love it when a plan comes together...x" so perhaps the scandal isn't so scandalous after all...

Perez comments said...

He's not gay, he's Bi-sexual and very open about it too. So clearly not a scandal.

^^ He's gay / bi, so what's the big f***in deal? Let the man be who he say he is. Looks likes he likes to shag Men and Women.
I hate it when gays want to put every man who had or will have sex with another man in the "gay" box.

Stop it.

Variety is good I always say.

Anonymous said...

Those are so not Jake's pecs; and there's a muscular tension in the chest that isn't in his face, so you know that it has been photoshopped.

Anonymous said...

He's gay / bi, so what's the big f***in deal? Let the man be who he say he is.

He's gay.

On 3 January 2007, Ian Watkins came out as gay, in an interview with The Sun newspaper.[6] He also revealed that he had been involved in a ten-year relationship with Steps' manager, Tim Byrne, though this had ended a few months earlier. Prior to this, Watkins had hidden the fact he was gay from fans, although rumours were widespread.[7][8] His interview was published the same day he entered the Celebrity Big Brother house.

Referring to the well-known catchphrase of Little Britain character Daffyd Thomas, he remarked,"I come from a small valley in Wales and it just wasn’t the thing to do to be gay. It's a bit of a cliché — but I was the only gay in the village".

I don't think their relationship is that simple. Anyway, to me they would make sense as a couple. It would be a more "normal" and honest relationship than it was with HL, which, to me, seemed like a farce for the most part. Her and Gosling have long-term potential. We'll see what happens.

ONTD - Ryan Gosling's band performs, you care

A talented actor and singer. A free spirit. And in interviews he seems down to earth and funny (who'd thought that?). I liked that he once said that if he didn't want attention he wouldn't be a Hollywood actor. I like his honesty. I know people say he's a womanizer, but I don't think he's the type of guy to sweet talk and lie to a woman to make her in love with him and then dump her like nothing when he's over her. I think he has integrity and would only commit to a serious relationship if he really means it and is ready for it. He comes off as intelligent and mature indeed.
Jake (and Anne H.) both mentioned that they admired him. I think, rightfully so. :)

If that was the case reviews will be in very soon!
