I don't think Jake is hiding out in MV either. It's not like it's the first time he's vacationed there. I'm sure the whirlwind PoP promotion was pretty grueling so it sounds like he's unwinding and having a good time.

Adam is an amazing man with a kind, humble heart - true to the very true blue Aussie spirit. However, as a true blue Aussie, one would know there is an expectation for everyone to be the tough Aussie blokes stereotype, especially as a country boy. Growing up, Adam has always been the mischievous boy who gets into a lot of trouble. He was hyperactive, naughty and unstoppable, but in him was a boy who just wanted to have fun.
As he grew older, he found himself attracted to men, and the battle begins. He struggled to fight those emotions and try to lock those feelings into a dark closet at the deepest part of his heart. He was an attractive young man and would get lots of females attracted to him, but he was never interested in any of them. He was popular, and on the outside, he was a happy man, but deep down, he would cry to sleep and he hated himself for his sexuality, he thought was abnormal.
At 19, after high school ended, he went water skiing with a bunch of friends. After a few drinks, on his way back, at a turning, he did a turn bigger than he intended to, and hit an on-coming car. The young driver was killed on spot, and Adam was left feeling guilty for the rest of his life. In the weeks after the accident, he battled with severe depression and would often isolate himself. One day, he wrote a suicide note, left it on his bed and walked to a cliff where he would kill himself - the only solution he can think of, to heal the guilt and his struggle with his sexuality. A bird came and sat on a branch nearby and started singing. No one knows what went through his mind, but he bawled his eyes out and sat there for ages, before deciding to ditch the plan.
He was sentenced to 6 months jail - a time when he rediscovered himself. When he was out of jail, he traveled across Australia, worked in some of the most extreme and dangerous conditions, got himself into crazy stunts because those were the only ways he can distract himself from his gay thoughts.
A few years later, he found himself in a rodeo and found his own true calling. He went on to work with a few horses and found his passion - horses. He became a horse trainer, and was recruited to train horses and the casts of Ned Kelly, where he met Orlando Bloom, Naomi Watts and Heath Ledger, who became his best friend until Heath died.
After the production of Ned Kelly, Adam moved back home. A few months later, he fell in love with a man, but he was struggling with the emotions. He would lash out at his family and friends - and he would blame himself. But one day, he decided to come out to his best friend, and that was the beginning of a truly amazing story. Both rejection and acceptance, denial and love. Over the next few years, he slowly came out - a story like many of us who slowly come out to our friends. The day Heath read the script of Brokeback Mountain, he called Adam and told him that he just read a script that is a lot like his story.
Adam even flew to Canada to meet Heath and spend a few days on the set of Brokeback Mountain.
A few days after Heath was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Brokeback Mountain, Neil wrote and published the story of Adam. It became the highest selling edition of the paper in history.

I don't think Heath wanted to distance himself from BBM, I think the attention and further expectations made him uncomfortable. After BBM everyone expected more such great work from Heath and he wanted to prove that he can, so he acted his ass off for TDK. Someone mentioned that he took the role in TDK too much to heart. Heath was very sensitive.

The on-going marathon to have Latifah discuss her sexuality — or anything about her life in a non-professional way — continued on CNN, where King managed to get the actor-singer to chat about private lives, but not about her private lives. It's hard to believe anybody, with any familiarity with Latifah, who watched this show doesn't know exactly what she's trying to hide.
But imagine if you are completely in the dark about Latifah's sexuality. So there you are, among the 12 people still watching Larry King Live, listening to her talk about how she won't talk about her private life. Do you see a celebrity who just doesn't want to be on the cover of Us Weekly? Or a celebrity who has major skeletons in the closet?

Davide, the malevolent person above speaks for NO ONE but herself. She's the odd one out on this board, not the norm. The hate she is spreading is hers alone. She's been marinating in it for years and would like to infect this entire board with it.
Her attempt rightfully brought Jackie out to refute.
There are more than enough Heath fans here. We haven't gone away, and we won't. Heath was a part of Jake's life, and through Matilda and the legacy of BBM, he always will be.

I don't think Heath "distanced" himself from BBM. He just went on with his life and making new movies. He took the projects that interested him, and unlike Jake, you didn't hear about him holding out for money until after the Oscar season was over. He did distance himself from the paps and publicity, because he hated it.
Jake made bad movie choices (except, I think Zodiac, which he committed to before BBM came out) and turned into a pr whore with Reese.

If Heath could handle name-calling when he played a gay cyclist at age 17, he could handle it after BBM.
But as for press/frustration with lack of privacy/stress, these things were problems for him from before 2005. You are making the mistake of conflating his poor ability to handle the public side of fame with playing a gay role. That is a misreading of both him and the facts.
If he had lived, Heath would have been just as uncomfortable and miserable during TDK promotion and he would have escaped from the flashbulbs and adulation the moment he could. His friends and Jake knew this well. Jake often did what he could to shield him. Heath was a bizarre combination of someone who could expose himself to the core on-screen yet shrank from exposure off as if it burned.
He'd be the last person to want to flaunt himself at MTV awards. He was shy. SNL is hard to imagine - I saw him on the Daily Show and it was uncomfortable. Those are things Jake can do excellently, and kudos to him for his ease and charm. Heath was unquestionably and embarrassingly nervous at many press events. But that doesn't mean he was ever embarrassed about BBM. It was the publicity/press circus he ran from and he'd have done the same no matter what the role.

It amazes me how noone could see this. Then they make excuses as if Heath was perfect and had no flaws. I love the guy and he was beautiful. I was crushed when he died. Heath was one of those few stars that just could not get it together during any kind of press. Especially if he had to do it on his own. I felt for him so much during his televised interviews.

I think Chris Nolan is an amazing talent; how he created The Joker with Heath, I'll never forget how great it is. I think his entire Batman series is my favorite - I love Christian Bale, and the best Commissioner Gordon ever is Gary Oldman. I hope Aaron and Maggie will be back too.

Jake's godchild last week in Canada: Matilda Rose Ledger and her Friends
Sweet child. To me it sounds surreal to refer to her as Jake's godchild. We never see or hear anything that says they are much in touch. I bet you, there's not more than occasional phone calls. Still, she seems to be a sweet child and it's great seeing happy pics of her. :)

Jake was born priviledged. His parents loved him and afforded the best for him, pivate High School, mom Naomi got both kids to Columbia where she has connections etc... The parents also got them fist gigs in Hollywood.
They are much more lucky than other people who have to fight their way up. I think they should be grateful and not act stuck up, like Maggie has a rep. to act that way.
DiCaprio for instance did commercials, tv series since he was a child. Grew up in a bad neighbouhood. He faught his was up. He has my respect. He may not be the brightest bulb, but he is a hard-working guy who takes his job very seriously. And it pays off. Good for him. :)

No disrespect, but are you being serious? Jake loves his sister and her child dearly. He said in an interview he'd do anything for them. They are a very close family. Scientology's Vendetta Against Anderson Cooper: Now In Paperback!
Anderson Cooper has really done it now.
The Church of Scientology has gotten aggressive with its campaign in the wake of Cooper's week-long "Scientology: A History of Violence," which aired at the end of March. While that was some time ago, a few months is apparently the amount of time it takes to create the very unusual 95-page glossy publication Freedom magazine handed out on the street Monday morning in front of the CNN offices in Manhattan. The majority of it's content has been posted online here for a little while now.
Freedom, "published by the Church of Scientology since 1968," devotes the entire issue -- and accompanying 30 minute DVD -- to a attempted takedown of the CNN anchor, the "AC360" crew, and the interview subjects featured in the series. (Please do yourself a favor and check out Cooper's "statement" at 11:30 in this incredible video.)
As noted in their video, the Church of Scientology now owns its own printing facilities to manufacture publications like these. And Cooper is not the only journalist to be targeted by the group. In 2009, Freedom went "inside the St. Petersburg Times" and in 2007 "exposed" the BBC program "Panorama."

Margaret: Ideally I think everybody should be out all the time. That would solve so many problems, if people would just come out from the get-go. But I don’t know how our society would support that, like I don’t know how much homophobia exists within our society. What I do know is that a lot of times when people come out, the responsibility isn’t just about coming out. When you come out in today’s society you have to also become an activist, and a lot of times that activist role is something that people don’t want to play in addition to being an artist. So, I think it’s a personal preference. I feel like everybody’s got their own idea of who they want to exhibit themselves as, what level they want to do, what they want to be seen as.
Jess: This reminds me of Adam Lambert, who waited until American Idol was over but made it clear that he didn’t want to talk about gay political and civil rights issues. He’s stressed that he’s an entertainer and not a politician, which hopefully will relax other celebrities who stay closeted because of that pressure.
Margaret: Right! And he also strikes me as somebody who was also out to begin with. I mean, his stardom was so fast… Like he barely… He was a star, and then a couple of weeks later he was, ‘I’m gay!’ [laughing] He only waited like 2 weeks and, ‘I’m gay!’ Like, it was real fast! So, I wouldn’t necessarily think of that as even waiting to come out, he was pretty much… I don’t know if I believe in the idea of sensation, but with somebody like that, they are an overnight sensation because the success of American Idol is really an overnight thing. His start was a little bit different than somebody like Ricky Martin, who was a child star and developed within show business. So, his idea of image has been protected since he was like, 5 years old or whenever he joined Menudo. So, I think it’s much more difficult for somebody like Ricky Martin to come out, especially, you know? His fame was many years before Adam Lambert, when you’re talking about Menudo, and then growing up gay as a very, very important Latin recording artist. You know the Latin culture is not as accepting, of course, and it’s very difficult. I think his finally coming out now is really brave, even though it is years later.

But romantically, which is a different thing, too. So I’ve actually had quite a few romantic relationships with gay men that are not sexual at all. But in the realm of romance I think that there’s like, many gay men that have sought that of me. Because for gay men, also the idea of romance is sometimes neglected in gay culture. It’s a very kind of feminine ritual, a feminine trait or a feminine ideal of romance, and so I think many gay men who have indulged that with me, not in a sexual way, but in a romantic way. So, I have quite a few gay “husbands”, I think there’s different ways to be a ”husband”, there’s different ways to have “marriage”, and now I’ve certainly had that with quite a few gay men.
Jess: And what do you get out of it?
Margaret: Oh, I get a lot out of it! I mean, I get a lot of very satisfying connections, and a heart connection, and a love connection. There is love there, just because that isn’t sexual doesn’t mean it’s not as profound and loving as a relationship that I would have with somebody that I am sexual with.
Jess: Isn’t that just a friendship?
Margaret: It is a friendship. But romance is a kind of modified friendship. It sort of goes a little deeper. If you’re not involving sexuality, I think, for me, relationships can be a lot deeper. You can get into a spiritual realm, and that’s really deep, so I’m very happy with my relationships with gay men. Maybe it’s sort of what Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift had, a very romantic relationship that wasn’t sexual, but that was very deep.
Jess: I think a lot of people may not be aware that you’re actually married to a man. I know when Ani Difranco got married she experienced some backlash from the gay community. Did you ever experience anything like that?
Margaret: No, I don’t think so. I think because I’ve always had a side of me that’s very heterosexual too, that it’s not… I identify as queer, my politics are queer, but then I’ve also maintained many relationships with men too, so I think my own fluidity within my own sexuality has always been very present. So I didn’t feel a kind of backlash in that same way, which I thought for Ani was very unfair. She was very happy, and she should have been congratulated, so I don’t think that’s right that there was backlash for that. I think people, when they identify so much with her music, and they equate so much of that with their own queerness, they feel like the artist has a responsibility to answer to it with their actions in life, and I don’t think that’s appropriate.

Just saw Jake’s ad. His eyes were very blue but he was a bit crossedeyed. Wish he spoke with a deeper voice.
I was on 14th street (NYC) and there was a guy dressed and made up as Heath’s Joker. I have no idea why, but I thought the Heathens would enjoy that.
I love Ken Watanabe - HE is gorgeous. Maybe I should say beauty-full.
I know many do, but I can't get off on Rob Lowe (um, I mean Matt Bomer). Men with the soft facial features of a 16-year-old girl don't attract...nice to look at but no quiver. Especially, no mental quiver. I like a man with depth. So to see Ken Watanabe mentioned is great. I knew there's a reason I still have faith in this place. :) Nothing against the Bomeritas. To each their own. I'll take Ken, though, with extra raw wasabi on the side. (I acknowledge that if he was gay like Bomer he'd be even hotter.)
