Between courses at the Ravagh Persian Grill in Manhattan (his choice), he pulls out from under his T-shirt the two chains that hang around his neck. Each has a ring at its end - one is a black diamond, the other a pendant of Saint Genesius, patron saint of actors - and he starts rolling them between his fingers. But he almost seems alarmed when I ask about them, as though he hasn't been aware of what he has been doing. A diner from another table comes over.
"Can I say hi to you?" she asks.
"Yes, you can," he says.
"Oh, my gosh," she says. "You're my favorite."
"Oh no," he says. "Oh, don't say that. You say that to everybody."
"No!" she protests. "I love The Brokenback Mountain. I really did love it. I watched it three times."
Brokenback Mountain. Once she recedes, he turns to me and says, "You don't want to know the variations of that title." He tells me how, just the other day, a lawyer asked him how he got into acting at such a young age. "I think at first I was just ambitious," he says. "It was blind ambition. I wanted to be out there. I mean, I remember watching my sister up onstage doing South Pacific when we were kids and going, 'That looks like a fucking lot of fun.'" He debates with himself. "Was it attention? Probably, but I think it was more the magic. It's magic, some of what happens in movies. I mean, people asked me many times through the experience of Brokeback Mountain what that was like. And the best way I can describe it is what we all carry with ourselves from that experience, and why we feel so close. Forget all the awards that come, with people kind of adorning each other - it wasn't about that. There was something magical in that time. We all slept in our trailers out by a trailer park the first month of making that movie. I was sleeping next to Ang's trailer; Ang's trailer was next to Heath and Michelle's trailer - they'd kind of moved in together. And Michael Hausman, the producer, brought his Airstream trailer down. And it was just us, by this river, for a month. And we would walk to set, and we would eat together, and we would all make coffee in the morning, and I would wake up in the morning and there would be Ang Lee doing Tai Chi outside of my trailer, and it was just magical. It was just magical."
To promote the movie, the cast appeared together on Oprah. For the first half of the show, it was just Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger fending off Winfrey's enthusiasm and curiosity. There is a sheen cast over the movie now - to some extent because of its subject matter but mostly because of Ledger's death - that leaves it and anything connected to it frozen, untouchable. So rewatching the two actors on Oprah, I was surprised to see Gyllenhaal alluding to times that the two of them didn't get on during the filming. Gyllenhaal seems surprised, too, when I mention this, as if he wasn't aware this was something he'd shared. But he remembers. The scene with the two of them by the river, for instance.
"Where Heath's character goes into how his father knew of two guys who lived together and he ended up seeing them killed and dead. I had always read it in a certain way. I heard it in my mind a certain way. And I had worked with these incredible actors like Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon. When I worked with Dustin, he would always do things to me; in between a take, he would stop his lines, and he'd be like, 'You're a wonderful person,' or horrible things sometimes to jar me... getting a different response. And so I decided in this scene to gather the gumption" - this was when Ledger's part of the scene was being filmed and Gyllenhaal was off-camera - "and I don't subscribe to this really, changing lines on an actor, because I don't think I'm Dustin Hoffman, and I don't think I have the ability or the talent to do that to somebody. But I do think that changing intention sometimes on an actor when you're doing a scene when you're not on-camera is really interesting for them. But I did it at one point in this one scene, and I'd always heard it a certain way, so I was almost trying to move the scene to that place for him. He delivered the whole thing very, very straight, and he could feel me trying to do that, and I remember him getting really upset with me. And I remember him turning to Ang at the end of it and going, 'If he wants to tell me what to do, have him tell you'... We had these kind of exchanges, you know. But ultimately, the way I look at it was I was wrong, because he was brilliant. But at the same time I think, "Well, if I hadn't, would it have gone a certain way?" We balanced each other out. When I think about these things that happened then, we were very much alive in that movie. We were really living that movie. Not literally, but you think about those times in your life..."
One thing Gyllenhaal would do - feeding off the way Ledger had chosen to play the part of Ennis quietly, his teeth clenched - was to ask him in character, "What? What'd you say?" "Stupid me," Gyllenhaal comments now.
Did Heath never do anything that annoyed you?
"No. I always admired Heath. I always was kind of enamored by him, you know. I mean, yeah, sometimes it was hard to sit with him. He moved... He was a mover."
People have since suggested that he was really, really troubled by having to do all that promotion and campaigning. Was that your sense?
"Yeah. He was very sensitive. He didn't always really have a sense of performance in his everyday life. He was who he was. I think actors very often, they know how to present something, and that's part of their job. I think he was just really sensitive. We often used to do a lot of things together, because people were very interested in him and I think we felt safe together."
For example, he says that when he and Ledger had to introduce Ang Lee at the Directors Guild awards, Ledger refused point-blank to say anything jokey about Lee, as might have been expected at such an event. Their introduction was consequently so serious and earnest, says Gyllenhaal, that when Lee came up to the stage, he told them, "That was so gay."
Still, he also remembers how much they'd be laughing backstage at events: "For such a serious actor as Heath was, he was crazy funny. Dark funny, but funny." Out front, they came to be sobered by people's reactions, as they realized that the movie was bigger than all of them, bigger than they'd realized. Gyllenhaal tells me a strange thing about the filming, an experience he'd just rhapsodized about as so magical: "In retrospect, it just was a painful process." As though there's no reason why both memories should not be equally true. "I don't think any of us can watch it to this day," he says. "I remember talking to Michelle very recently and her being like, 'I didn't know if it was any good or not.'"
Afterward, he and Ledger stayed in close touch. "We'd talk a few times a month. I mean, he was a friend. He was like my creative partner." The news of Ledger's death came while Gyllenhaal was filming Brothers.
Could you make any sense of it at all?
A lengthy pause. "I don't really like talking about it. That period of time was... It was difficult."
What effect do you think it had on you?
"Even when we did Brokeback and stuff, it was like my work was the only thing that mattered to me. It was like I could only understand or define myself through doing that. Life, I didn't totally understand. And I think I was afraid of life. And I had success in my work, enough success that you could keep going back there. But after that happened... I think I recognized that it was work. And I recognized that this is for real."
"This" being life?
"It's for real."
What were you scared of?
"It seems to me that there are some people who go, 'All right, I'm grabbing the bull by the horns. Let's do this...,' and there are some people who it takes a while to figure out. It's an everyday struggle to be able to go, 'I'm going to follow my own instincts - I'm going to try and hear my own heart regardless...' We're getting pretty deep here. I mean, there are things that I want in my life. You can hide in your work, I guess I'm saying, or you can be alive and free and live in your work. You can pretend the people that you're going to work with for however many months are going to be the family that's going to be forever. But the truth is, they're not. And no matter what relationships you make along the way - which have been occasionally really, really influential in my life – ultimately I choose all the mishegoss, and all the complication and confusions of life, which takes courage and patience to sift through. Over the temporary moment of 'Oh, I'm comforted in the womb of this family.' I choose the other. I hate to say this, but - "Gyllenhaal smiles - "it's time to jump."
***
There is a famous scene in Brokeback Mountain where Ledger's and Gyllenhaal's characters jump together off a cliff into a river, both of them naked.
In reality, Ledger made the jump but Gyllenhaal did not. Originally the leap was to have been from a lower ledge, but Ledger wanted to go from right at the top. They were told how careful they would have to be, falling from that height, because they might hit the river's shallow bottom, and they were also warned of the hazards presented by the glacial water. Gyllenhaal realized he wasn't so sure about it. He had just been cast in Jarhead, and that shoot was starting soon. He knew that if he injured himself, he would lose the part. And he was comforted by a precedent: he remembered a story he had heard in his youth, about how Paul Newman, a family friend, hadn't actually made the leap in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. He decided to let a stand-in jump in his stead.
I ask him whether Ledger didn't, after all they had been through together, say to him, "You're wimping out on this?"
"It's interesting - he never did say that. I would have loved for him to have said that."
Would it have made you feel bad?
"Maybe. Yeah, probably. But I was actually really, really proud of myself that I didn't do it. For me, it was a great triumph. You know, there's a pressure that people put on themselves to not trust their instincts. You know, show the stunt guys I can do it, prove it to this person, prove it to that person. Who do I need to prove it to? And Heath didn't do it for any of those reasons - he did it because he wanted to jump."
Do you at all regret not doing it now?
"Yeah. But that's me now."

Jake's PR probably planted this story. This is just more virtual bearding. Yawn....
She was impressed by Jake's unique and fascinating personality :)

^^Jake's looking really good.
I look breathtakingly beautiful!
What a lovely, smiley hunk of a man
LOL I first read it as What a lovely, smelly hunk of a man
^^LOL.
I never thought of Jake as smelly. He always looks well groomed and clean.
SklarBrothers: Feel like Jake Gyllenhaal is taking this whole Prince of Persia thing too seriousy. He's started wearing too much cologne.
I am posting this quickly so if I forget anything I will tweet it later!
...
Jake Gyllenhaal was the last guest and it was a hilarious (and the longest) interview. I’ve always loved Jake, as do the majority of the female population, and he was such a good guest and really made everyone laugh. During Jake’s interview, they were talking about how good a cook Jake is, and Jonathan made him eat a pickled onion. Jake spat most of it out which was hilarious, and it was just generally a really nice end to the show. Everyone was really laughing and I was on an Adam high still. The band played their song and Jake and Jonathan came back on set to end the show.
...
Friday Night With Jonathan Ross!
Most fans who met Jake say he smells like soap, a few others said a nice soft cologne. So while we have to sometimes defend our alliance to Jake despite his bearding, ultra-secretiveness and the wacky things he says, at least he washes his hair, takes showers, wears deo, and smells good, unlike some other celebs. (And he also dresses up in suits for premieres and professional events)
" Actor Jake Gyllenhaal says he wants to be taken "a little less seriously" as an actor, and would love the Prince of Persia to become a franchise. "
I wonder if Pacino, Hoffman, Deniro, or Daniel Day Lewis would ever say something like this.
I doubt Jake will ever be taken serious by anyone. He is a phony.
There's no reason for him to worry about this. After Reeke started, the diminuition in status started to happen.
ITA. So now it looks like jake is going to be the male Jennifer Aniston. Better a pathetic pussy-whipped loser than a proud man who refuses to beard.
I wonder if Pacino, Hoffman, Deniro, or Daniel Day Lewis would ever say something like this.
Good point.
It's so pretentious to say he "wants to be taken a little less seriously" as an actor. Who does he think he is, Laurence Olivier? No casting directors think of him as Mr Serious Thespian. They see him as Mr Sensitive & Shirtless, not quite the same thing. De Niro, DDL, Philip Seymour Hoffman ... they guys are taken very seriously, not Jake.
I think he is just trying to forestall jokes about what will be less-than-stellar acting in a silly movie. It's PR advance action...
"I wanted to fulfil the dreams of those movies I loved watching, like Robin Hood with Errol Flynn," he added of his new swashbuckling role.
Well here's a role for Jake:
the Sean Flynn story
Sean Flynn's towering stature and matinee-idol looks made him stand out during his years as a combat photographer in Indochina. The remains of his body, however, have proved more elusive. For years, official and unofficial efforts to recover the body of Hollywood swashbuckler icon Errol Flynn's son have come up empty-handed. Now, 40 years after Sean Flynn's abduction, two men say they uncovered a grave site in the Cambodian countryside that is likely his — generating a flurry of excitement, skepticism and resentment.
Dashing, brash son flies headlong into war to stake out a reputation independent of his movie-idol father... A film company has purchased the rights to Two of the Missing, an account of Flynn and Stone's saga. Heath Ledger was reportedly considering taking the role of Flynn before his own death in 2008.
The ad for POP has been on my TV but its the weirdest thing, I haven't seen it yet only heard it. I'm almost always doing something when I watch TV especially during commercials, and the POP ad has yet to make me look up at it. By the time I do its over. I think its the music - its too subtle and relaxing, not something exciting that gets my ears interested or perked up. Also I swear the voice is NOT Jake's. Its too monotonous to make me look up at the TV and notice the ad.
Also I swear the voice is NOT Jake's.
I think so too, but can't be sure.

What a night for Austin to be at The Late Show. The whole monologue was about anti gay activist guy being caught with the gay escort. And Craig talking about every day one of these guys are getting caught.
The end of his monologue Craig was saying (to paraphrase) like being really really gay would mean you're straight, and acting really really straight would mean you're gay.
Life creates it's own irony.
They showed the clip of Sophia with the bow. So Mr. Nichols was on Craig in a round about way.
Sophia said she thinks she was a gay man in a past life. It's all becoming clear now... LOL.
Picklenose: Sod the election, Jake Gyllenhaal is on @Wossy tonight!

Thanks for posting, 4:22. Austin just can't escape the gay, can he? ;) His character on OTH is currently involved in a gay related story where the lead actor in his film is closeted and bearding.
From Zap2it's recap:
Alex sees Josh making out with another guy, and suddenly his whole plot to release a sex tape of them together makes sense: He's trying to prove his masculinity (or disprove any rumors out there about him being gay). Wouldn't it just be easier if everyone in Hollywood who was gay could come out and didn't have to worry about nonsense like this? Unfortunately, that is still not the case. And so we get this storyline. Anywhoodle, Josh begs her not to tell anyone what she saw -- so she immediately tells Julian and his father. Ha! He totally deserved that. After learning Josh is gay, Julian's father and Alex then allow the sex tape to be released because their film can't afford to have a gay leading man. SIGH. I hate that this story is realistic. Alex decides to combat the rumors in the press of her being a slut by officially making Josh her "boyfriend."
Hmm, art imitating life? Josh = Austin. Alex = Sophia.
Heath Ledger was reportedly considering taking the role of Flynn before his own death in 2008.
I wonder if Jake knows. ;) I read Heath was also considering at one point the role Colin Farrell ended up playing in Crazy Heart.
^^It would have been so great to see Heath in all those roles. :(
Sometimes I wonder if he would still be alive if he hadn't hooked up with Williams. If he needed a woman for sex on set, he should have hired a high class prostitute or something. Instead he chose a clingy weirdo. Or maybe he had it coming for being a player with women. What comes around goes around. :(
Venice film festival will be held from Sept. 1st to Sept. 11th.
Hopefully LAOD will be in the line up. Or in the line up for Toronto.
Fingers crossed! :)
pcribb: Holy! Jake Gyllenhaal does the best English accent I've ever heard an American actor do.
LOL. No effen way.
Is someone out to get Jake? This US Weekly promo for PoP makes him look like a vain fool and cheeseball.
Method acting IN A POPCORN FLICK, lol. Constantly shirtless, too. Gerard Butlerville...
Healthy Lifestyle
Jake Gyllenhaal knows how to keep it real. While filming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (out May 28), the actor, 29, stayed in character even after the cameras stopped rolling.
"Jake would chat with crew and visitors in a British accent," a set source tells Us Weekly. "It was funny to hear this American guy talking in an accent when he wasn't shooting. He took it very seriously."
PHOTOS: Does Reese Witherspoon look better before or after splitting with Jake?
Another thing the single stud took very seriously? Transforming his body with cardio and power circuits. "it's a very physical role," the actor -- who insisted on doing many of his own stunts -- admitted at the WonderCon comic book convention April 3.
The hard work paid off. "He was very proud of the way his body looked," says a source. "He was constantly shirtless."
"He was constantly shirtless."
LOL @ Jake. ;)
Gosling/Michelle - Imagine if they really hooked up. Michelle with another hot, young, talented actor. Heath's parents probably won't be too pleased with them parading around their love. They'll probably think she contributed to their son being unhappy and now she moves on with another fellow. I find it interesting that ever since Mrs. Bell (Heath's mom) left Brooklyn, Michelle disappeared, that's about 3 months ago. There was an event she was expected to attend yesterday, but she didn't. I personally think the Ledgers/Bells ain't too fond of her. JMO.
about kissing Jake:
'When you work with someone for six months and you see them all day every day, in a way you get over things like that. Then when I watched him in the film, I was like: 'Oh my God, he looks absolutely incredible'... I was so blinded when I was doing this film. I remember the day I had to kiss him and I was like 'Oh yeah, I got to kiss Jake today'. Then watching the movie, when we actually kissed, I was like: 'Oh my God, I kissed Jake!' I got really giddy'.

Heads up: Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, 10.35pm, Friday 6 May 2010, BBC One.
Hathaway, Portman join 'Dragon Tattoo' race
Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman and Kristen Stewart have allegedly joined the race to secure the lead role in Sony's remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
An Education's Carey Mulligan has repeatedly been linked to the part of a bisexual hacker who teams up with a disgraced journalist to solve a decades old disappearance case. However, a series of other A-list actresses are now believed to be courting the part.
According to Deadline, Ellen Page, Mia Wasikowska, Keira Knightley, Olivia Thirlby and Scarlett Johannsen have also expressed an interest in starring in director David Fincher's thriller. Mulligan has reportedly gone as far as taking out the film's writer and producer Steve Zallian for lunch.
An insider has claimed that Fincher "is not sure if he wants to go with an actress of any note or go with an unknown". The source added: "David's process is very specific and private. He's looking for authenticity and a degree of fierceness and believability capable of delivering the intensity that the part on the page calls for."
Sony has allegedly offered the lead male role to Fincher's Se7en star Brad Pitt and is awaiting an answer.
who'll make it?

I hope for Annie or Carey. :D

Jake Gyllenhaal, Alan Sugar and Adam Lambert join Jonathan Ross for this week's Friday Night With Jonathan Ross on BBC One.
Jake Gyllenhaal says he enjoyed bulking up for Prince Of Persia: "When I got the muscles... I felt great." He also tells Jonathan that he plays a viagra salesman in his next movie but doesn't need it himself: "I have no problems!"
Alan Sugar explains how he was inspired by the kids in Junior Apprentice: "It's really heart-warming to watch these youngsters, and says he has faith in younger generation: "It's going to inspire so many young people because they get a bad name, and this lot will bring confidence back in to the country."
American Idol's Adam Lambert says he remains defiant about controversial US TV kiss: "I felt it was really important not to make an apology, I stood my ground," and says how he wasn't fazed by Simon Cowell: "I respect his honesty, I like that. I didn't take it personally."
Finally, he tells Jonathan how he weighed 18 stone when younger and didn't get slim until he came out: "I was a porker, eating my feelings... I changed my habits, finally embraced who I was and felt better."

Performances
So the big question here is obvious. How does Jake stand up to an action-adventure hero role? Pretty damn well actually. He's got the physical presence, the charm, the energy required for something like this. You know that kind of broad comedy that's wedged into every single mainstream blockbuster? He nails it. His interplay with Arterton's Tamina works well, at least on his side. Jake's going to come out of this smelling like roses and getting a fair few new job opportunities coming his way. A great pick by Bruckheimer. Oh, and his first action scene is climbing up the wall as the arrows are shot into it, as seen in one of the trailers. It's effortlessly fun.
Arterton does less so. Remember the interplay between Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark? Yeah… it ain't that good. It's more along the lines of their interplay in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It's not stilted, and it works to an extent, but it's certainly not a swing out of the park. She does the job, but the costumes don't allow her to be "sexy" enough compared to Quantum of Solace, and she comes out of the film okay, but really cannot hold up to Jake's Dastan. That's not her fault, but more in the scripting of the thing. Dastan's funny. engaging, and Gyllenhaal pulls this off perfectly. Arterton tries to match him but doesn't quite get there. Doesn't mean she's not decent in it, but she comes off second best.
Sir Ben as Nazim chews the scenery, particularly in the third act. He's doing this for fun and it shows. He does the job, but he's underwhelming compared to what you know he can deliver.
The other performance highlight (besides Jake) is Alfred Molina. We're talking about a character that hates taxes, governments, loves gambling and debauchery, and more importantly, the money that comes from it. Molina is really funny and definitely brings something to the table. He's having a blast making this film, and it shows every moment that he's on screen.
...
Final Thoughts
The film works. It achieves what it sets out to do. Is it the next Pirates? I'm probably not the guy to ask. Jake is great fun, the story bounces along, Arterton isn't useless, and everyone is having a good time, especially Molina. The plot works fine, and if you're a fan of the game, I'm sure you'll find more to nitpick and possibly a few nods to the fanboys. As far as a videogame adaptation, it's easily the best out of the ones I've seen, and I've seen a fair few. It doesn't feel like a videogame adaptation at any point in the film, and that is, I feel, the key to this film's success. Bruckheimer has produced a film based off a videogame, just as he produced a film based off a theme park ride. He hasn't attempted to produce some kind of live action videogame that the audience merely watches as their best friend from across the street (or Bruckheimer) plays. while the audience is really just wanting to pick up the controller themselves.
Will it be massive? Probably not. Will it be a big crowd pleaser coming the end of May? Definitely.

Heads up: Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, 10.35pm, Friday 6 May 2010, BBC One.
Jake's going to come out of this smelling like roses and getting a fair few new job opportunities coming his way.
Dastan's funny. engaging, and Gyllenhaal pulls this off perfectly. Arterton tries to match him but doesn't quite get there.
Ha!
UPDATE: Looks like it's been delayed by 15 mins because of election coverage.

Adam on Jonathan Ross - Live Stream
It works! Ross likes Jake and PoP :)
LOL @ Jake Black Woman thing
live from PoP press conference said...
Jake is joking that he has been studying parkour since he was a small child and always wanted to be a Prince!
Personally I think he make a better princess.
Adam is openly gay, but the fangirls are still nuts about him.
Probably because he's still a cute guy. As well as a famous singer. LOL.
It hard not to like Jake these since you know who is off free to shop in LA during Jake's Promo tour in London. Haven't seen or heard from her since Ryan's Saturday Night Live and Howard Stern interview. I really should feel sorry for her because if anything negative ever comes out about her that she can't PR her way out of the nut case would probably kill herself.
Was that gagging gesture necessary? :(
Ross - pinky ring is on.
Ross is funny!
"Was that gagging gesture necessary? :("
I thought the same. Completely unnecessary :(
My computer is slow, so I couldn't watch it, what do you mean with "gagging gesture"?
Thanks.
"what do you mean with "gagging gesture"?"
During the Adam Lambert interview, Jonathan Ross was talking about two guys kissing and he said he’ll kiss the guests (including Jake) and Jake did a gagging gesture at the idea of Jonathan kissing him. It came across homophobic and out of place.

IA. It was unnecessary.
Thanks.
lukehanleymusic: Jake Gyllenhaal on Jonathan Ross was hilarious. Didn't expect that! But seriously, he's one funny dude.

Even though he is not, Jake sometimes comes off like a straight fratboy. Maybe that's what he wants...
OliviaRachel16: Jake Gyllenhaal was soo funny on Wossy! And so was Adam Lambert, even though he's gay i find him weirdly attractive!

You sure are right Jake a lot of people might call you a princess. Amazing.
Jake likes Internet and gossip, he mentioned Sandra Bullock's adopted baby.
First, but bad quality:
Jake Gyllenhaal Johnathan Ross
He looks ... amazing. He's got an intensity or something. God, I love Jonathan Ross. You can see he and Jake have a great rapport. I'm so sorry it's going to be his last season? Well, at least we'll get to see him on BBC America. I couldn't hear what the Poofs were singing. I love them. :)
Poofs were singing Cher's If I Could Turn Back Time.
Ohhhhhhhhh perfect. :)

What in the fuck is wrong with him. That is so disgusting and disturbing on so many levels.
cpandrew: Friday Night w Jonathan Ross was funny. Cool of @Wossy to have @AdamLambert on, thought he came across well. Gyllenhaal is totally closeted!

It might have been that he was teasing about not finding JR attractive to kiss. Adam looks great too.
There was nothing "homophobic" about what Jake did. Unless Jonathan Ross is gay, which he is not. Way to read too much into a meaningless "gag".
I'd have to see it - but I don't think it's a rejection of the entire male gender. :)
Adam Lambert GlamRockGodUK Wossy Pt1
Adam Lambert GlamRockGodUK Wossy Pt2.
If you were a gay male would you kiss Jonathan Ross, Adam yes but Jonthan no. Would it be hetero phobic if Jake was female and gagged? He was just trying to be funny.
It might have been that he was teasing about not finding JR attractive to kiss.

Cmon the gagging was flirting grade school. When you like a boy but don't want to.
:)
There's no denying Adam's appeal. And he has a great voice - I loooooove that song "Feelin' Good". :) Back to watching!
Cmon the gagging was flirting grade school. When you like a boy but don't want to.
So what you're sayin is that Jake has a crush on wossy?
I know some gay men who wouldn't mind kissing Ross.
No, Jake was just doing his frat-boy schtick.
Very little interaction with jske snd the guests in the green room, Sir Alan Sugar. When Adam returned they shook hands and Jake went up to be interviewed. He had more interplay if I remember last time with the 4 poofs, this time he barely aknowledged them. He butched it up pretty good even when he dep fried Ross' IPAd during the cooking bit.
Adam, never feel being gay his wrong sweetheart. You are fantastic. ((((Jonathan Ross))) is pretty cool too. Back to watching. :)
he dep fried Ross' IPAd
WTF was that about? lol
Off the topic of Jake, but the male part in Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a much older man than the girl. Read the book, it's excellent. I couldn't put it down. Now working on the 2nd one.
Ross mentioned that Jake likes to make things and he told him about making a table for his Mom. Then Ross brought up cooking and had a bag of groceries and wanted Jake to make something up quick. Jake put some butter in a pan and tossed in Ross' IPAD, LOL
^^I'll check it out. :)
Adam is just amazing - so talented singing a cappella. His eyes are mesmerizing. He's very sweet, confident but not off-putting.
Steve Jobs won't be happy! :)
:)
I love that "squared off" ankle to knee sitting that Adam was doing - very attractive, IDKY.
Attractive and quite macho.
Yes. :)

Saw the pic of Jake and Adam backstage. Jake was so the girl in that pic, prissy.
^^^ What a lovely homophobic comment right there. Well done you!
That's not girly, that's European!
I thought I saw Jake shake Adam's hand when he came backstage. That's why I love JR - the green room is always on display. I thought Jake looked great - I haven't seen all of Jake's chat with JR. I think on OMG there was some body language talk, and I wondered if it was something anthropological. I'm weird. :)
I thought I saw Jake shake Adam's hand when he came backstage.
Yes, he did that.

Besides the significance of the crossed legs, Jake looks like he's about as close to the edge (ready to flee) as that sofa will allow. If Adam wasn't such a nice guy, he might've scooched a little closer to see if Jake fell on the floor, trying to escape. LOL. Man, oh man, has that man ever changed from the Jake of old. At least, with regard to his public persona.
Body Language 101 reveals that crossed legs can disclose many things about the state of someone's mind.
Jake:
Essentially, the legs indicate what the mind wants to do. Crossed legs, therefore, often indicate--anyone care to guess? A closed mind.
If someone's legs are crossed, they're closing themselves off to the person they're speaking to. They're not comfortable with the person, and may be fearing attack on a very basic primordial level. Interestingly enough, getting the person to uncross their legs will almost invariably get them to open their mind up a bit more.
Adam:
The figure-four cross occurs where one ankle is placed on top of the other legs' knee, with top leg's knee pointing sideways. This can be a surreptitious crotch display, and is more common amongst men as it invites attention. Sorta of like, "Look at me, aren't I pretty, Jake?" or conversely is challenging the other male, like "Come out, come out, whereever you are, Jakey."
Too funny.
Photos: Jake Gyllenhaal and Adam Lambert Share a Sofa
I wondered if the figure-four cross was anthropological. I read where it is a crotch display to attract females, and challenge other males. :)
Challange?! Pfft, my is bigger!
I read where it is a crotch display to attract females, and challenge other males. :)
Could be just the opposite with Adam. The crotch display was maybe to attract that scrumptious male sitting next to him, and challenge other females to stay away from his catch of the day. ;-)
Damn!
Yes, that too. :)
I thought crossed legs by men meant confidence.

I'm a girl, I'm bitter I can't have either one. That's what bitter people do hate on what you can't have.
Arms crossed means: Defensive and cautious.
Crossing knees may indicate greater anxiety or defensiveness, particularly if the legs appear tense and even more so if one leg is wrapped firmly around the other.
*shit* Just when I thought my new movie would make people forget about those damn cowboys.

Your right Destiny but does it surprise you.
Besides the significance of the crossed legs, Jake looks like he's about as close to the edge (ready to flee) as that sofa will allow.
IMO Jake was at a normal position on the couch; seated comfortably on the cushion and close enough to the armrest. What do you expect, him to sit in the middle?! To sit in the separation between the cushions?! He was probably the first in the room to sit down. Where he is, is the polite and normal choice to sit.
Essentially, the legs indicate what the mind wants to do. Crossed legs, therefore, often indicate--anyone care to guess? A closed mind.
If someone's legs are crossed, they're closing themselves off to the person they're speaking to.
Sorry but I strongly disagree with this. Generally it might be correct but there are so many variables that there is no way to blanket an analysis on "crossed legs" as being closed off and defensive. It depends on the person's gender, which way the top leg is slanting and which way the foot is pointing. IMO Jake's leg posture is flirtatious, confident, haughty yet teasing. There's nothing uptight and closed-off with Jake in that pic.
If you were a gay male would you kiss Jonathan Ross, Adam yes but Jonthan no. Would it be hetero phobic if Jake was female and gagged? He was just trying to be funny.
So because you wouldn't kiss someone it's alright to do that? If Ross were a woman (ugly, fat, etc someone you wouldn't kiss either) and Jake were straight would it be okay if Jake mock-gagged at the suggestion of locking lips with her? People would be outraged. Sorry, that was in no way funny. It was stupid and inappropriate (I'll leave the homophobic part out). I understand Jake is a crowd pleaser and wants to make people laugh but maybe he should act his age a bit more.
Adam was great. His confidence and openness are very attractive. No wonder he's got fangirls squeeing left and right.
I bet Jake gagged for reals when he had to kiss the beard! That's probably why he covered half their faces with his hands at the Lakers Kiss Cam - so no one would see him getting sick in his mouth and have to swallow it back down.
Didn't take long for the Urban Dictionary to get a phrase for anti-gay Rekers who took his rent boy on vacation. whatever lifts your luggage
My impression is that even though Jake likes attention, there is definitely a shyness within him. What did he say about Heath (who everyone knows was shy) and him feeling secure together during that crazy BBM promo time? He said, they felt secure together. You can notice how when they stood next to each other they were glued to each other. Why did he seem to read Heath so well (watch him watching Heath's reactions), because he knew how Heath felt (uncomfortable, out of place), Jake is a better showman and was able to perform, to hide him being uncomfortable, maybe even out of place, with jokes etc. Heath could not do it i.e.
Totally obvious to me.
Lamey continues to ship Ms. Williams and Mr. Gosling. ;)
Lamey
I have to agree with her. They seem to fit. I bet all my money that after Valentine promo they'll hook up and as Ted C. said, we'll see them cuddling out and about.
(And I agree with Ted again, that it won't last for too long, but she should enjoy his killer bod. as long as she can ;))
Adam was great. His confidence and openness are very attractive. No wonder he's got fangirls squeeing left and right.
True.
^^I had the impression Jake liked Adam. When Adam got back from the interview, Jake shook his hand and smiled at him, though Adam looked away. Cute. ;)
Awww, thanks for that awards list. ((((Heath))))
Lots of good company in the lists; great movies and actors.
LOL about the urban dictionary entry. :)
Fingers crossed for Michelle and Ryan. :)

Either way it was a very stupid and inappropriate thing to do.
Guys do that to each other tho - constantly making fun of each other. If it were a woman, it would be entirely different. A man's (generally) social interaction with men and with women are two different things. There are always exceptions.
^^with other men. You're not talking apples and oranges in this case.
Making fun of gays or joking about gagging while kissing a guy is not homophobic. It's silly and inmature and not very sharp,IMO but not homphobic. Straight people joke about gays the same way gays make fun of straights. Being against gay people's rights is homophobic and anti humaritanian as well but just because gays still don't have all the rights that they deserve, doesn't mean they can laugh about others and not endure some stupid, meaningless jokes back
I think people are reading too much into it - it wasn't making fun of gays, IMO. JR was kidding about kissing. Someone can make jokes about kissing another man or not, for crying out loud. It's not against human rights to tease about kissing. It's not a rejection of the entire male gender. Whether people think it's appropriate, or not, that's something else, but it was in no way homophobic. You're going to tell me that a gay man wouldn't laugh and joke about finding another man unattractive to kiss? Although in this case Jake was kidding. I love JR personally and wouldn't mind kissing him, and I'm sure others do too. :)
As far as the man/woman difference, men and women are supposed to be equal under the law as human beings - but that doesn't mean their gender differences have been erased so that they are two de-sexed worker bees when they interract together. Men behave differently with other men than they do with women, generally. No matter what has changed, women are still judged on their apperances, so a public display of finding her unattractive would be very impolite and unacceptable. Not so for another man.
Did you notice the bit about LAOD? It didn’t look like promotion to me, they didn’t even say the name of the movie or the actors, director. It looked like it was brought up to give Jake an excuse to talk about lots of sex with girls and falling in love with a female. I can already see the 'straight' shoving down our throats during LAOD promo.
The way I heard it, JR was joking about kissing the other gentleman, and said to Jake that "there was enough to go around" if he wanted to join in, and then Jake mock-gagged.
10:20 AM, why 'the way I heard it? You can watch it, link is posted - see end of 'Adam Lambert GlamRockGodUK Wossy Pt1' video.

KStew fans got their hands on an early version of the On The Road script. That version calls for Garrett Hedlund, who is supposed to play Dean, to have kissing and sex scenes with other men. So I'm guessing Jake would have turned the movie down for that reason alone...
Come on Jake, this is a good opportunity for "he wouldn't play a gay character is he's gay" :)
He already did that.
No reason why he shouldn't do it again :)

My impression is that even though Jake likes attention, there is definitely a shyness within him.
I don't think there's very much that is shy about Jake Gyllenhaal. At least, not in a bashful, timid way. More like cautious, distrustful...maybe even a little bit fearful about what might be asked next.
OK, we may bitch endlessly about a Niley reunion and poke fun at Jakey G. and his romantic blunders. But there's another reason these two are some of our H'wood faves: Both have superstar careers as a side dish to the amount of drama they create.
And this week Miley and Jake gave us bad in two very different ways—and we've got to admit, we totally love both:
[goes on about Miley]
Then there's Jake, still vying for the top spot as Last Real Man in Hollywood (whoopsie, was that plug too shameless?). With the buzz he stirred up about whether or not he's back on with former GF Kiki Dunst, we almost forgot he had a flick coming out soon.
But thanks to a few clips from his mega-blockbuster Prince of Persia that made their way online, we got a CGI-filled reminder of what's to come.
Sure, the movie is definitely not his shot at an Oscar nom, but we'll still be lining up come opening night. Why? Because Jake looks absolutely mantastic. His British accent may be worse than Britney Spears', but his tanned and toned bod is more than enough to keep us captivated for hours.
Keep it up, you two, because we love everything we see. Who knew bad could be so good?
