Hollywood's Coming Out Guru

An LA Weekly profile of Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman asks a provocative question: is the time ripe for an A-list male actor to come out of the closet? Bragman thinks the answer is yes.

Patrick Range McDonald writes that Bragman, openly gay himself, has helped numerous celebrities and pro athletes with the "tricky and, for decades, risky terrain" of coming out. He currently works with Chaz Bono, whose gender transition from female to male was recently reported on TMZ. He's brought out actor Mitchell Anderson and NBA player John Amaechi. But now, he says, it's time for someone really big. McDonald writes,

"The publicist hasn't brought out an A-list, gay male actor - yet. But Bragman says that day is coming, and after the first superstar decides to reveal himself, a fundamental shift in American acceptance of gay leading men may not be far behind. He's currently working with a famous musician who's still closeted from the public, but who will come out next year. And the manager of one major movie star approached Bragman a year ago and asked about his client's possibly going public, but the actor still refuses to pull the trigger.

"I felt a little frustrated with that superstar," Bragman says in reflection, "because it had to be 'handled.'"

Bragman's frustration aside, Hollywood remains "a surprisingly conservative entity." Stars mobilized for a "No on Prop. 8" campaign, but McDonald says "the big studios and their mostly male chiefs - and the scores of socially liberal men and women who play key roles as casting directors and agents - have together created a kind of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, which places enormous pressure on gay, male actors to remain in the closet." Bragman is confident this can change — he even says, "coming out can be used as a marketing tool." And McDonald cites some hopeful statistics — 89% of Americans now believe that gay people should have equal job opportunities, and 72% say they would not change their opinion of an athlete if they found out he was gay.

Still, gay actors face some challenges. Foremost is the fear that, as McDonald writes, "audiences would be uncomfortable seeing a known gay actor like Cheyenne Jackson kissing or fondling Kate Winslet, and box-office earnings would nose-dive." Neil Patrick Harris is famously both out and doing well, but he says that for years, "I wasn't thought of in a sexual way, which is easy when you have big ears and are called Doogie all the time." If someone who was a sex symbol and a "superstar" to boot chose to come out, the response might be different. And the process would be even more complicated if said superstar also had a high-profile heterosexual cover relationship, as it's safe to assume at least a few do.

Then again, the fiction that no one — or almost no one — in Hollywood is gay can't last forever. It's already been much remarked-upon that while straight actors can "play gay" (like Sean Penn in Milk), only a very few gay actors are permitted to "play straight." Given that the entire film industry is based on audiences agreeing to believe for a few hours that someone very famous is actually someone else, this seems obviously ludicrous. And perhaps it's true that if one "superstar" — one with enough clout to get movies made regardless of sexual orientation — actually came out, everyone would have to confront the ridiculousness of Hollywood's straight-washing. Still, when the movie industry can campaign against Prop. 8 one day and enforce a "don't ask, don't tell" policy the next, it's no surprise that no one's clamoring to be the first.

I have always believed and still do that Reeke is a showmance not a romance. However, I do think that they are both committed to making sure the Reese and Jake romance moves forward. The In Style article cements what I have thought for a while, that Reeke will go on for a long, long time. Reese must definitely view divorce and loosing. To be divorced again or have a boyfriend for over 3 years and then break-up she would view as another loss in the public's eye. Her giving an interview that insinuates that they live together and say they go away together as a family with her kids, means Reese intends Reeke to be long term. I never thought that Reeke would ever marry, but now I do. What's really sad is that Jake, one of the hottest looking guys in HW who is 28 years old, spends his weekends with a bitchy, frigid woman and her kids gardening instead of being out and enjoying life.

Hell, I'd almost pretend to date Reese if I could hang out and garden on the weekends. Don't they have horses? Pony rides (don't think dirty, think G rated).

Even if he doesn't like her, he seems to like the kids. (Him taking the picture of Ava on MV. He showed more excitment and affection for Ava than he has for Reese.) It is fun to hang out, chase animals and garden with kids. At least he there are some benefits. And, it gets them away from their cold-fish mom.

(InStyle.com) -- She refuses to dwell on the past and accepts that she can't control the future.

For Reese Witherspoon, it's all about living in the moment. And with a thriving career, two children, and a handsome boyfriend -- Jake Gyllenhaal -- who can blame her?

On her divorce from Ryan Phillippe ...

You have to keep it together for your kids and for yourself too. I'm trying to learn from the things that have happened in my life, live more in the moment, and have more fun.

Someone told me recently to live in the present but make plans and take pictures. And I am. I'm writing more, I'm reading more.

Going to more concerts. Jake and I went to Coachella this year.

On being confident ...

As you get older, you know what you like and what you don't like, and you're not apologetic about it...

I used to judge myself so harshly. I think women in their 20s do. You're hard on your body, you're hard on yourself. But you start to realize that none of it is really all that important.

As long as you're comfortable, the best parts of yourself come through no matter what. Your mother can tell you that a million times, but you don't understand it until you live it!

On if she likes to cook ...

I do. And Jake is a great cook, he does a lot. We spend the weekends outside L.A, in Ojai, where I have a farmhouse. We have chickens and we grow cucumbers and tomatoes.

I love it. It reminds me of where I grew up in Tennessee.

On working out ...

I try to exercise every day. I like to run for about an hour, and I'm big into working out with girlfriends. It's an acquired skill, being able to discuss your love life, children and friends, all while you're running! But we have mastered it.

On her new perfume ...

I have a lot of favorite smells from growing up in the South that I wanted to capture in this scent.

As a kid, I was always outside. There was a magnolia tree in the front yard that I think I spent most of first, second and third grade in. And there was the smell of honeysuckle from the creek that ran down by our house.

Gardenias were important too, because every Mother's Day or on my birthday my father would buy small bouquets or corsages for my mother and me. While we were working on the perfume, Avon asked me if I could explore other notes, but I kept going back to white flowers!

The packaging reminds me of my grandma's bureau, where she'd have little perfume bottles out. I love it.

Anonymous said...

On her girlfriends ...

There are three of us who wear pretty much the same size, so we'll get together on a Friday night and I'll bring clothes I want to trade and they'll bring theirs. We swap shoes and purses a lot. I wore my girlfriend's dress to a wedding recently. It's fun.

On raising her kids, Ava and Deacon, far from home ...

Sometimes it's really difficult for me, being far away from home.

L.A. is where my job is and I have to be close, but I never imagined that my children wouldn't grow up next door to my brother's children. Or my mom and dad wouldn't constantly be around.

You know, I had dinner every night with my grandparents as a kid, so I think missing out on that is a hard compromise. At least I have a lot of Southern friends in L.A. I gravitate toward them. I think of those people as a part of my family: They take care of me and I take care of them.

On being a mom and a career woman ...

I love my life without work and I love my life with work.

My mom, who's a nurse, called me the other day when I was really stressed out from working a 15-hour day. And she was like, "Yeah, but think of it as a part-time job." And I thought, that's actually right, it puts it in perspective.

I work incredibly hard for three months, but then I get a break. It's about really enjoying my time off.

Where do I relax the most? Where are my children happiest? My ideal scenario is to do one movie a year. But as an actor, I don't think you can do an awful lot of planning. In fact, my new philosophy in life is I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I used to spend a lot of time thinking about the future, as if I could magically predict it if I planned it enough. And then I realized, I can't.

And yeah, thriving career my ass!

Reese always dates guys who are much more good looking than her. Desperate much? Maybe her secret is that she's a slut in bed? Men like that. Pity that all the dirty things she probably let Ryan do didn't keep him from dumping her for a younger, sexier bird. Maybe he likes it classier? Jake sure doesn't, if we can believe that prostitute (or was she a regular woman?) that he shagged in some weird ways.

I'm sort of disappointed that there are rarely sightings of Jake and Anne together and there probably won't even be pics of them together. I thought they'd get closer during the shoot, but I doubt it now. They didn't even seem to be good friends when they promoted their first movie together. He used to ignore her.
I think they'll never become close friends. But out of all his lady friends/acquaintances like Nat, Reese etc... she'd be the most intellilgent and fun. I guess, it's his loss. Reese Talks Cucumbers, Cozy Time With Jake

There's a reason why Reese Witherspoon is one of the craftiest broads in Hollywood.

Even though we know we're being manipulated with each interview into thinking of this pixie as the sweet girl next door (which she ain't), she does it in a way that makes us still like her. Jennifer Garner take notes, by all means.

Reese covers In Style next month and totally takes a play outta the Brangelina interview book. Like opening up about her sex life, perhaps? Hardly. Unless growing a garden is considered foreplay for Gyllenspoon. "Jake is a great cook," Reese tells the mag. "He does a lot. We spend the weekends outside L.A, in Ojai, where I have a farmhouse. We have chickens and we grow cucumbers and tomatoes. I love it."

Boring.

Come on, Brad Pitt had no problem pointing out one of his and Angie's secret sex spots in their stone grotto. What, Gyllenspoon doesn't get frisky? Guess they're just more the undercover-lover types.

But Reese did have one major thing in common with Brange: claiming she wants to cut back on work. "My ideal scenario is to do one movie a year. But as an actor, I don't think you can do an awful lot of planning. In fact, my new philosophy in life is I'll cross that bridge when I come to it."

At least Reese is more realistic about it than Brad is. Still, don't expect R.W. to be going anywhere anytime soon. She's made all the right moves to get to the top, and she's not giving it up that easily.

I find it very odd the Reeke had 2 weekends in NYC running all over the place and a weekend in San Fran running all over and there are no pics to document it. Also, I think it's odd that in the In Style interview, she isn't asked about Jake but brings him up so casually. In pase interviews the Chin has refused to discuss him and now she brings him up. How come? All of this is not normal Reeke behavior. How come they are suddenly changing their MO?

1. weekend - I believe the plan was to do US Open reeking, but the rain spoiled the plan.

2. weekend - Reeke didn't arrange the photo op, but did visit places where you can find paparazzi. Reese organized movie set photo op on Monday so she could spoil Ryan and Abbie's good PR moment.

DL - Bronson Pinchot on Tom Cruise's gay fixation circa 1983 said...

Risky Business (1983)—“Barry”

BP: We didn’t know it was going to be a big hit. We thought Tom [Cruise] was the biggest bore on the face of the Earth. He had spent some formative time with Sean Penn—we were all very young at the time, Tom was 20, I was 23. Tom had picked up this knack of calling everyone by their character names, because that would probably make your performance better, and I don’t agree with that. I think that acting is acting, and the rest of the time, you should be you, but he called us all by our character names. He was tense and made constant, constant unrelated homophobic comments, like, “You want some ice cream, in case there are no gay people there?” I mean, his lingo was larded with the most… There was no basis for it. It was like, “It’s a nice day, I’m glad there are no gay people standing here.” Very, very strange.

Years and years later when people started to torment him with that, I used to think “God, that’s really fitting, because he tormented a lot of people as a 20-year-old.” He made such a big deal about it. Same thing with Eddie Murphy—I remember somebody calling and saying, “You’ll never guess who was just caught with a transvestite!” [Laughs.] And I remember thinking that seemed fitting, because there are certain people in showbiz who make it an agenda, every third sentence has to have something knocking that life choice, and you think, “What are you doing?” Like, these women came up to me in a restaurant—I was wearing a bright red shirt, and I was with some friends, and they said, “Would you like to join our club? We wear red.” What kind of choice is that? If you spent many years in the theater, and then you show up in movies, and people have on their to-do list for the day that they’re going to make a comment every third sentence, it strikes you as very strange. I just thought it was very funny that years later, that became his bugaboo. Which is a nice 1930s term I thought you’d enjoy.

AVC: Do you think he was just insecure? Or that he was young?

BP: I really don’t know. It is what it is; there’s nothing I can add to it. If someone’s 20 years old and every third line out of their mouth is anti-something specific, then draw your own conclusion. I thought it was very weird. Similarly, there’s a certain type of middle-aged woman that will tell you within 20 seconds of meeting you that she can’t find anyone to take her to bed. And that really strikes me as strange, too, like, “Why are you telling me that?” I don’t like any kind of conversational agenda; it makes me uncomfortable. I just think it’s weird. Unless you’re with your very best friends and you’re being silly. Then you can do whatever you want.

AVC: Did you have a sense that even though Tom Cruise was boring and unpleasant, he would be exciting onscreen?

BP: Oh, no. I thought the movie would disappear. It just goes to show you, I obviously don’t have the antennae for that. I didn’t see it at all, but neither did any of the actors. All of the actors who talked about him were like, “What is this guy all about?” And you know, honestly, I never got it, and I don’t get it to this day. But it was his breakout film. He always talked about himself like he was a mega-superstar; that was weird, too.

AVC: In order to achieve that level of success, you have to have a burning ambition.

BP: I guess so. It’s just a different kind of animal, like a racing greyhound versus a mutt that sits in your lap. I guess I’m a mutt that sits in your lap. I don’t know what that is, but I’ve seen it many times. I think Denzel Washington has it—he’s one of the most unpleasant human beings I’ve ever met in my life, but he’s this mega-superstar.

James Franco Owns a Mask of His Prosthetic Penis said...

If you see a dickhead on the street this Halloween, chances are it could be James Franco.

Erin Overbey reports on Franco's New Yorker Festival appearance over the weekend:

"'What’s it like being a stoner icon?,' Lauren Collins asked James Franco, last night at the Cedar Lake Theatre. 'You know, people think I’m stoned anyway,' Franco replied. 'I don’t mind. People think you’re a stoner, they think you’re a fun, nice guy.' The conversation moved to biopics. Franco has starred in several, including 'James Dean' (a TV movie) and 'Milk,' and he will play the poet Allen Ginsberg in the soon-to-be-released 'Howl.' After a clip from 'Milk' was shown, Franco admitted that he still had the prosthetic penis he wore in the film, and that he’d actually made a mask out of it for another film."

And Franco's latest gay career move?

"Asked if there was someone else he was dying to play, the actor mentioned that he had bought the rights to Hart Crane’s 'The Broken Tower.'"

Crane was gay and committed suicide at sea in 1932. "The Broken Tower", one of his final poems, (and also the name of a biography of the poet by Paul Mariani), was written following a heterosexual affair, after which he continued sleeping with men.

My husband is a police officer and volunteered with security when she was in our town shooting part of Sweet Home Alabama. All the officers were thrilled to meet her...until they actually MET her. She was so rude to all of them and treated the officers who were VOLUNTEERING to help her, like trash. The ENTIRE DEPARTMENT decided to UN-VOLUNTEER. Every single officer told the production crew they would not be back because they were treated so poorly by her.

I don't know her, so don't know if she is a phony or not. But one of my favorite stories about her actually came from her. She was once complaining in an interview that sometimes when she came home from filming a movie that Ryan wouldn't have used a coaster when he served the kids the meals he cooked and he would leave a mark on the table. She was actually angry about it. I remember thinking, huh? Get another table every time you leave town. My old man used to feed the kids McDonalds nonstop if I wasn't cooking. Get a new table, woman, and KEEP the husband. She also talked about folding and refolding the contents of her drawers and labeling everything, including her mother-in-law's house when she visited. Pittsburgh addicted to Gyllenhaal's 'Love and Drugs'

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said...

True, there were no feverish flu patients but it sure looked like a doctor's office, from the names on the outer glass door to the men in white coats, stethoscopes slung around necks, filing cabinets, boxes of latex gloves and (unopened) urine sample cups, scale and weight chart.

The two doing the brisk walk and talk were Jake Gyllenhaal and Hank Azaria, and the location had been built and decorated with remarkable detail in an office building in McCandless for "Love and Other Drugs."

Edward Zwick is directing the movie set in 1997 and featuring Gyllenhaal as Jamie Randall, a Pfizer pharmaceutical rep, and Azaria as Dr. Stan Knight, a busy physician he's shadowing this day and trying to convince to prescribe his drugs.

Jamie fires stats at the doc -- "33 percent fewer phone calls at 4 a.m." -- while Knight weighs a request from his receptionist, Cindy (Judy Greer). A woman is on the phone asking for an antibiotic for her daughter, starring in a high school production of "Bye Bye Birdie."

The physician, with reading glasses low on his nose, says, "Sure, why not." Jamie cranks his charming smile to full tilt for Cindy, who pivots and hustles back down the hallway.

After some back and forth about Knight angling for a consultant's gig, the doctor plucks a chart from outside an exam room and the men step inside as the director calls cut. "Sometimes it all falls into place, doesn't it? Nicely done," Zwick announces.

"Love and Other Drugs" fell into place for Pittsburgh and is now in its fifth week of shooting and expects to finish in late November.

The movie also stars Anne Hathaway as Maggie Burdock, an artist in the early stages of young onset Parkinson's disease; Josh Gad as Jamie's successful entrepreneur brother; George Segal and Jill Clayburgh as the men's Chicago parents; Oliver Platt as Jamie's district manager; Kimberly Scott as the dour gatekeeper in Knight's office; and Gabriel Macht as a rival drug rep.

"Love and Other Drugs" is based on Jamie Reidy's real-life book, "Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman," but the story has been fictionalized. Charles Randolph, Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz wrote the screenplay.

The movie, from Fox 2000 Pictures and New Regency Productions, is scheduled for release some time in 2010. Although characterized as a romantic comedy, "Love" has more meat and less froth than most films in that category.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said...

Good chemistry among the pharmaceuticals

"It does talk about the pharmaceutical industry with some insight and some penetrating understanding," Zwick said during a break in filming. "It also has elements of a relationship that are more serious and dimensional than just the basic romantic comedy but it's also very funny and very romantic."

Gyllenhaal and Hathaway played an unhappily married couple in "Brokeback Mountain" but their relationship here is charged with attraction and passion.

"When you see what they have together, that is the heart and soul of the movie," Zwick said. "So chemistry is an elusive thing, in real life as in movies, but you do know it when you see it and know it when you have it."

Hathaway, who started filming this week, did her homework about Parkinson's. "She's that kind of actor, as all the good ones are," Zwick said, doing lots of reading and spending time with neurologists and patients.

When you've re-created Civil War America ("Glory") or Montana at the turn of the last century ("Legends of the Fall") or 1870s Japan ("The Last Samurai"), as Zwick has, Pittsburgh circa 1997 isn't such a stretch.

"It's not archaeological. There's all the stereo equipment and medical equipment and clothes, everything is available," Zwick said. "Sometimes you have to be careful with cars on the street but those cars are still around."

Nevertheless, this was a time of bulky flip phones, boom boxes, pagers and drug companies that pitched doctors instead of consumers, as with today's ads for everything from Boniva and Lunesta to Viagra.

"These commercials and ads have had a profound effect on sales for these companies," the director said.

Reidy was just one of many sources providing an insider's view of the pharmaceutical world. "What's remarkable to me is how eager people are to talk to people from the film business because they're not talking for attribution, it's all essentially deep background," the director said.

"It's been my experience that whether it's the CIA or the Department of Defense or the Justice Department or NASA or whomever, people have been more than eager to tell their stories and have it understood. And so, to that end, we've had quite a wonderful availability of voices."

And locations.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said...

Several locations used around town

In addition to McCandless, cast and crew have filmed at homes in Squirrel Hill and Fox Chapel along with the Mellon Arena, Omni William Penn, Gandy Dancer at Station Square and in Sewickley, Aliquippa, Brownsville and elsewhere.

Pittsburgh plays Pittsburgh and even a bit of Chicago. Jamie aspires to advance to the largest sales territory of a New York or Los Angeles or Chicago, so none of those cities fit the bill.

"We wanted a place that was urbane and had the requisite locations," which Pittsburgh with its rich medical history did, the director said. The state's tax credit program and its increasingly experienced and talented crew base also factored into the decision.

Pointing out the roughly 175 people working on the set this day, producer Pieter Jan Brugge said, "Many are local. They are terrific. That's one of the reasons why we're here, the wonderful crew. The film office here is pro-active. Very, as they say, user-friendly."

Although Zwick had never been to the city before scouting here, Brugge made his directing debut with "The Clearing" starring Robert Redford, Helen Mirren and Willem Dafoe and partially filmed here. "It was a great experience, really great," he said.

That movie featured Redford as a businessman who achieves wealth and success, only to be abducted by a former colleague who has lost his job. Brugge was ahead of the G-20 summit in recognizing Pittsburgh's evolution.

In July 2004, when the movie was released, he told the Post-Gazette, "I saw a picture of Pittsburgh in The New York Times, and I read about Pittsburgh and the fact that it was representative of old industrial America and had transformed itself into a new economy."

In the intervening years, Pittsburgh's ability to fill key jobs on a production has blossomed.

"Now, you have people who are on par with the best of what we could get out of Los Angeles, so it really has become a significant production center and with the incentive, it only grows and it brings an enormous benefit into the local economy," Brugge said.

The recently passed state budget includes a $42 million tax credit for this fiscal year and $60 million for the following year, down from $75 million.

Aware of stinging complaints about the commonwealth subsidizing Hollywood, Brugge says, "Every single individual, even if they are from out of the state of Pennsylvania, still pays Pennsylvania state taxes. And you have hotel, you have apartments, you have local lumber, you have local office supplies, you have telephone installation, catering and produce, local props and set dressing. There's an enormous amount that comes from the local community."

Film crew 'most gracious'

In fact, Lucia Leventis rented out her Squirrel Hill home of 30 years on Bartlett Street to the film crew for three days of production in late September. Her large house, built in 1875, plays the Chicago residence of Jamie's parents.

"I really don't know why they chose my house," she said. "I think they chose it because the space is appropriate for their cameras."

Scenes were shot mostly on the first floor using some of her furnishings and some furnishings and artwork that the film crew added. Some rooms were painted and Leventis had the option of getting them returned to their original colors but she liked the tints the production team chose, although she planned to ditch the curtains.

"I'd rather look at the trees," she said, adding that the film crew had been "most gracious" and treated her home with respect.

"I did meet Jake," Leventis said. "He's very sweet. I said, 'Jake, you sure are handsome.' "

On the sidewalk outside as crew members erected a "Neighborhood Viewer Area" sign in hopes of corralling onlookers into one area across the street, Gyllenhaal arrived to shoot his scenes, his pet German shepherd following closely behind.

Rivka, 18, and Debbie, 26, who declined to give their last names, shyly said hello to Gyllenhaal and pulled out their cameras as he walked past.

"I just said, 'Hi, good luck,' and he said, 'Thank you,' " Debbie recounted. "I don't want to bother him. He's a human being."

The two young women were excited to have the filmmakers in their neighborhood on the same days that coincided with the G-20 summit. "Nothing ever happens in Pittsburgh," Debbie said, prompting Rivka to wonder, "I don't know why it's compacted into two days."

"They can spread it out a little," Debbie said of the exciting goings-on. As it turns out, they're spreading it out this fall, with Gyllenhaal and Hathaway in town along with Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Banks in "The Next Three Days" and Denzel Washington and Chris Pine due for "Unstoppable."

That InStyle article. That's why I want to hear from Jake. Is he really bearding, because what Reese says is fuzzy and odd in terms of what their relationship is, in this article and in all of the past ones. She "opens up" about Jake and all she says is he's a good cook? She's been the one stringing along the fake romance for the most part. It's also VERY possible that she uses the "her image makeover and he needs to look straight" argument to rationalize to Jake what they're doing, but underneath all the layers she's seriously delusional and is mentally ill...I'm not joking. I honestly wonder if she's living in a fantasy and that most of the people closest to her are unaware of it. That kind of psychosis takes a long time to form and it can be very dangerous.

Why should he be responsible for kids he didn't even make? Those idiotic women trapped the guys via pregnancy and when they dumped them, Jake has to play their daddy? Give me a fucking break! Gay male kisses woman!

Details magazine has always been a bit confused trying to please both its gay and straight male readers, but it's truly discombobulated with its November cover subject, Adam Lambert -- the "American Idol" runner-up who wore eye makeup and nail polish and came out of the closet after the season ended.

Details had photographer Alexei Hay shoot Lambert in a steamy embrace, kissing lingerie model Kim Cloutier, who shed her bikini. The story by Nancy Jo Sales claims female fans throw their underwear onto the stage when Lambert performs along with feather boas and riding crops. "Women obviously know he's gay, but they are still crazy about him. He's no Liberace," Details editor-in-chief Dan Peres tells us. "To put him with a beautiful female model felt absolutely right." Lambert told the magazine, "I like kissing women sometimes. Women are pretty. It doesn't mean I'm necessarily sleeping with them."

An actor who so badly wants to do super hero larger than life characters has no problem with publicity and there is no way Jake could be happy with his current public image.

The question is - what can he do to change it and what are his options.

I do think Jake has some chemistry with Anne (but then I think a lot of people have chemistry with Anne) BUT I really do not think this film is going to blow BBM into dust (or rather the memory of Jake as Jack Twist). Not by a long shot. I think it might get respectable reviews but I doubt it'll be a huge box office success (Jake doesn't pull them in--but so few stars do nowadays but he certainly doesn't). I think this film will play for a few weeks and it's over. I bet Anne will get very good reviews and the supporting players.

Anonymous said...

9:36 AM, I don't think Jake is doing a romcom w/ Anne by coincidence. She is the girl of the movie where he played gay, now he is doing a movie where he actually wants to bed her. The way I see it, this is more about Jack Twist being cured and becoming straight. Halleluja!!!!

She was in such a hurry to leave so the pap couldn't take a lot of pics, that she plopped Deacon in the back seat and didn't bother with fastening his carseat belts and took off into traffic (she was parked on the street).

Bottom line: She values her looks first and foremost, and she will sacrifice the safety of a child in order to maintain her public image.

Notice now how, especially with Jake, she takes her sweet time, posing while opening the car door, sitting in the car, making sure the paps get their pics.

A couple of weeks ago our actor was walking his dog when he ran into a a guy on the street. The guy on the street was also walking a dog and the two started chatting and then before you knew it our actor asked the other man out. The man on the street stated he already had a boyfriend, so no. Soon after our actor walked away. Several other times the man on the street has seen our actor with his dog and with other men, but never his wife or child/ren. The funny thing about this is that our actor was on a show which had a large number of gay actors so you would think he would feel comfortable coming out.
