Stephen Fry: Dearest absurd child

Just who was the young, arrogant and confused man to whom Stephen Fry recently felt compelled to write a long and heartfelt letter? Himself, 35 years ago.

Oh, lord love you, Stephen. How I admire your arrogance and rage and misery. How pure and righteous they are and how passionately storm-drenched was your adolescence. How filled with true feeling, fury, despair, joy, anxiety, shame, pride and above all, supremely above all, how overpowered it was by love. My eyes fill with tears just to think of you. Of me. Tears splash on to my keyboard now. I am perhaps happier now than I have ever been and yet I cannot but recognise that I would trade all that I am to be you, the eternally unhappy, nervous, wild, wondering and despairing 16-year-old Stephen: angry, angst-ridden and awkward but alive. Because you know how to feel, and knowing how to feel is more important than how you feel. Deadness of soul is the only unpardonable crime, and if there is one thing happiness can do it is mask deadness of soul.

I finally know now, as I easily knew then, that the most important thing is love. It doesn't matter in the slightest whether that love is for someone of your own sex or not. Gay issues are important and I shall come to them in a moment, but they shrivel like a salted snail when compared to the towering question of love. Gay people sometimes believe (to this very day, would you credit it, young Stephen?) that the preponderance of obstacles and terrors they encounter in their lives and relationships is intimately connected with the fact of their being gay. As it happens at least 90% of their problems are to do with love and love alone: the lack of it, the denial of it, the inequality of it, the missed reciprocity in it, the horrors and heartaches of it. Love cold, love hot, love fresh, love stale, love scorned, love missed, love denied, love betrayed ... the great joke of sexuality is that these problems bedevil straight people just as much as gay. The 10% of extra suffering and complexity that uniquely confronts the gay person is certainly not incidental or trifling, but it must be understood that love comes first. This is tough for straight people to work out.

Straight people are encouraged by culture and society to believe that their sexual impulses are the norm, and therefore when their affairs of the heart and loins go wrong (as they certainly will), when they are flummoxed, distraught and defeated by love, they are forced to believe that it must be their fault. We gay people at least have the advantage of being brought up to expect the world of love to be imponderably and unmanageably difficult, for we are perverted freaks and sick aberrations of nature. They - poor normal lambs - naturally find it harder to understand why, in Lysander's words, "the course of true love never did run smooth".

You would little believe that I can say to you now across the gap of 35 years that we are the blessed ones. The people of Britain are happy (or not) because of Tolpuddle Martyrs, Chartists, infantry regiments, any number of ancestors who made the world more comfortable for them. And we, gay people, are happy now (or not) in large part thanks to Stonewall rioters, Harvey Milk, Dennis Lemon, Gay News, Ian McKellen, Edwina Currie (true) et al, and the battered bodies of bullied, beaten and abused gay men and women who stood up to be counted and refused to apologise for the way they were. It has given us something we never thought to have: pride. For a thousand years, shame was our lot and now, turning on a sixpence, we have arrived at pride - without even, it seems, an intervening period of well-it's-OK-I-suppose-wouldn't-have-chosen-it-but-there-you-go. Who'da thought it?

But don't kid yourself. For millions of teenagers around Britain and everywhere else, it is still 1973. Taunts, beatings and punishment await gay people the world over in playgrounds and execution grounds (the distance between which is measured by nothing more than political constitutions and human will). Yes, you will grow to be a very, very, very, very lucky man who is able to express his nature out loud without fear of hatred or reprisal from any except the most deluded, demented and sad. But that is a small battle won. A whole theatre of war remains. This theatre of war is bigger than the simple issue of being gay, just as the question of love swamps the question of mere sexuality. For alongside sexual politics the entire achievement of the enlightenment (which led inter alia to gay liberation) is under threat like never before. The cruel, hypocritical and loveless hand of religion and absolutism has fallen on the world once more.

So my message from the future is twofold. Fear not, young Stephen, your life will unfold in richer, more accepted and happier ways than you ever dared hope. But be wary, for the most basic tenets of rationalism, openness and freedom that nourish you now and seem so unassailable are about to be harried and besieged by malevolent, mad and medieval minds.

You poor dear, dear thing. Look at you weltering in your misery. The extraordinary truth is that you want to stay there. Unlike so many of the young, you do not yearn for adulthood, pubs and car keys. You want to stay where you are, in the Republic of Pubescence, where feeling has primacy and pain is beautiful. And you know what ... ?

I think you are right.

"Some of you just have to find some kind of reason for Austin's hanging around."

Being Jake's boyfriend or friend is more than enough reason to hang around.
Austin is in the closet too and it is possible he has no problem with Jake's bearding.

Anonymous said...

Austin is an active partner to this bearding. But some people are always trying to make excuses for him, or try to portray him as being some kind of reluctant partner.

Please, besides OTH and Jake, what else has he got? He's a tool just like the other two, and he's never going anywhere. He will stay in the closet and mostly hidden away for as long as Jake wants.

Jake may be the bottom, but he is the power in that couple.

Why do I have the feeling that, if Jake and Austin ever do breakup, it's going to be Jake who does the dumping?

reposting DL gossip said...

If Jake is back with Austin, he must be a real drama queen.

Why? please tell. I'll keep it to myself I promise.

Who Austin or Jake? I heard a rumor awhile back from someone who knew (or claimed to know) Jake (and Austin) that Jake was quite a manipulative boy-child with Austin and would use tears to get what he wanted from Austin (who from what I heard is actually somewhat balanced--albeit he does have party boy tendencies but he's not a baby like Jake).

Poor Austin, I really feel sorry for him. He actually looks sensible - except in those photos where he's half stoned, nice! - Jake being a baby-drama, who'd have ever thought (duh) - I'm not surprised Austin drink-drove himself into a hoarding board last year just to get some peace and fucking quiet.

Anonymous said...

What the hell is a "hoarding board"?!

Why do I have the feeling that, if Jake and Austin ever do breakup, it's going to be Jake who does the dumping?"

I think it's exactly the opposite actually.

"Why do I have the feeling that, if Jake and Austin ever do breakup, it's going to be Jake who does the dumping?"

Impossible to say because there could be 1.000.000 break up reasons.

Anonymous said...

Good reasons to break up:

Your partner does not hold you in high esteem.

Your partner ignores you in public.

Your partner hides you away.

You feel like you have little power in the relationship, and that everything is on his/her terms.

Reasons good for Hollywood stars or "civilians", alike.

Anonymous said...

1.000.000, Explain?

Anonymous said...

11:43, those would be the reasons for someone with any kind of self-esteem.

This is Austin we are talking about.

Anonymous said...

If any part of what 11:01 quoted is true, Austin is even more of a weak wuss than I thought. Somebody like that is dumping anybody.

It'll be Jake who will walk away first.

Anonymous said...

If those were the reasons people in HW broke up, nobody in the closet would have a partner, and we know that is just not true. Why single out Austin? Austin works in HW, he knows how the game is played.

I'm not singling out Austin.

I'm pointing out some basic facts of abusive relationships. Whether everyone in Hollywood or no one in Hollywood does the same thing is absolutely inconsequential.

Why single out Austin? Um, this is a gossip blog about Jake? And Austin is suppposed to be his partner (which is the only reason anyone takes any real interest in him)? But he has proven to be less of a partner and more of a subordinate, to both Jake and Reeke.

As was previously said, WEAK.

So you are saying that fauxmance is more important to Jake than the real relationship?

Jessica Biel "devastated" over Nailed said...

Posted on OMG by Special K

It looked to be a big break for Jessica Biel, a starring role in a sexual satire directed by David O. Russell of Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees.

But Nailed, co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Catherine Keener, Tracy Morgan and James Marsden, turned into a nightmare for Biel. Instead of making a splash playing a woman whose personality changes toward the "outrageous" after she is shot in the head with a nail, the film was shut down repeatedly due to the collapse in its financing.

Thrown into turmoil last year, the film has yet to be finished. "That was definitely an experience, something I could NOT say no to," Biel told me in an interview. "I am a huge David O. Russell fan. It’s just heartbreaking that so many people put so much work into this particular project only to have it sit there, unfinished. But it’s one of those things where we had no idea it would have happened.

"If I’d had an idea that it might happen, would I still have done it? I don’t know. Probably. I had an incredible experience with David and the rest of the cast. It made me a better actor. For all that, I’m devastated that it’s not finished and who knows when it will be and will come out. I still have my fingers crossed that something good will come of it, that it will be finished."

Biel has had a run of such bad luck lately. She may be a sure thing in an Adam Sandler comedy (I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry) but her stripper drama, Powder Blue, went straight to video.

"I have to be careful. But it’s really hard to make a decision about what you want to do, in general. Add worry about what could happen to the movie outside of my control makes it even harder. I try not to let exterior pressures play into it. ‘Is this movie going to come out? Will anyone see it?’ You have to let all of those things go, if possible, and just look at the story, look at the character they ant you to play. Are you inspired by it? Are you moved, emotionally, in some way by it?

And do you want to work with this director? Those are the questions that I ask, that I try to stick to when I’m making a decision. But sometimes, it is hard not to think about those other possibilities that could derail your train."

Biel's luck is due to change later this month when her surprising turn in Easy Virtue, Stephan Elliott's free-wheeling adaptation of the Noel Coward play, hits theaters in the US.

She's trying to keep her sense of humor about the bad luck. When I suggest that maybe, to stir up new financing interest to finish Nailed, she and David O. Russell could stage one of his infamous tantrums for a viral video, she giggles (James Caan quit Nailed over a Russell run-in). "You know, that might work!"

First. Heath didn't kill himself off, twit.

Second. the very fact that Jake is in a fauxmance means it more important than any other possible relationship he may have.

Be blind if you want but obviously Jake doesn't care of Austin, sorry!

Anonymous said...

You know, maybe the problem with Jake coming out/not coming out and bearding is that he doesn't consider himself gay. Like with guys if he's only doing mutual masturbation, hand jobs or being on the receiving end of oral sex he might not think of himself as truly gay, even if his sexual activity with females is low or non-existent. And who knows what his fantasies are during sex, which can add to the identity confusion.

For exapmle, I have a male friend who slept with every girl he could get in junior high and high school but who switched to males when he was in his 20s. He told me even though now he's 100% gay, he can only masturbate to straight porn. Another female friend is straight but can only orgasm when fantasizing about women's breasts. So how to define these two people? Sex has so many more layers than just "doing it" and with Jake, we don't know what he might be dealing with, along with all the other crap in his life.

Anonymous said...

So, if you bust on Jake, you are just a truth teller. But if you bust on Austin, you must be a pr mole.

That is both silly and sad. You Jaustinites are really hanging on by your toenails. Take off the blinders.

This isn't OMG, you know.

Heath had a better career before he died than Jake has now.

Candy, TDK, both before Heath died. Plus the things he was lining up before he died.

Let's not forget the company he founded , the Masses, and the directing he was doing. The many other skills and interests he had.

Even Jake knows better than you do.

Anonymous said...

Your male friend was a late developer gay and your female friend is a closeted dyke.

Jake is gay in bed and straight in the public eye.

Sometimes, sex doesn't have as many layers as we pretend to think

Anonymous said...

Yes, I remember what a big box office and critical acclaimed movie "Candy" was....

Or films like "Brothers Grimm" or "The Order"......

Always funny to me how Heath is now the second coming in film history....he sure had an excellent carreer ahead but his movies before he has done BBM were mostly rubbish.

And lets see how "Parnassus" will be received in Cannes. Perhaps it will get a distributor but does anyone really believe the "Dark Knight" fanboys will run to see this movie?

Anonymous said...

Yes, many of Heath's films before "BBM" were rubbish, and he was the first to acknowledge that. "Fanboys" did not make TDK a worldwide billion hit. 2:15 was speaking of Heath's career just before he died. Candy wasn't a commericial hit, but no one was expecting it to be. It's not that kind of film. It was critically praised. "Parnassus" has problems because of Terry Gilliam's track record, not Heath's.

No one has said Heath was the second comming, but his career was headed in the kind of direction where Jake's should be going.

The problem is that Heath was gifted, and Jake isn't. But Jake's a good actor, and he should trust that more.

Anonymous said...

I'm Not There was also critically acclaimed. Movies like Candy and I’m Not There are arthouse films, nobody expects them to be b.o. hits.

Anonymous said...

Jake is a good actor but not gifted, yeah!

Anonymous said...

Candy seemed one of those tv movies about drugs staring Melissa Gilbert.

I'm Not There is a good movie, plus is very different and unique.

But,sometimes a good actor can save a bad film. The Order was a horrible movie, but Heath's acting was really touching and the fat guy from full Monty was good too in it :)

Anonymous said...

Yeah, The Order is a terrible film but did you see how good Heath looks in it? Absolutely gorgeous.

Anonymous said...

"Candy wasn't ..... It was critically praised"

Critically praised with 49% at Rotten Tomatoes?

"Movies like Candy and I’m Not There are arthouse films, nobody expects them to be b.o. hits."

True and hopefully we will see the same comments when "Brothers" will be released and won´t be a b.o. hit.....but I doubt it.

Anonymous said...

Candy was well received by the critics. Read official reviews if you don't buy it.

Anonymous said...

If "Brothers" is critically acclaimed, of course, it will be mentioned here. Not all of us are hoping that Jake will not be successful. It's just that some of us recognize that Heath was on a different level than Jake. It was Heath's performance that made TDK a worldwide success. It would never have made that much money othewise. And I am sure Jake would agree with that and the general assessment of Heath's talent.

Heath was the bomb, on so many levels. Why do you think Jake was so taken with him. I don't think it was just his looks.

Ridiculous? Please. The movie sucks but Heath is good in it.

You know, dismissing Heath and his movies won't make Jake's career successful. Say what you want but things don’t look good for him: Brothers - no release date after already being pushed back, Nailed - unfinished, PoP - campy and uninteresting. Then the Namath biopic, the Untitled Moon Movie Project and Damn Yankees whith unfinished scripts. Ever since he hooked up with the beard his career went downhill.

I think BROTHERS is one of those movies that are expected to be both aclaimed and BO hit (not BATMAN ot TITANIC BO Hit but definetely more than CANDY)

It was Heath's performance that made TDK a worldwide success

I think TDK was going to make lots of $$ even if they would have cast Jimmy Fallon as the Joker.Luckily, Heath was great in it and that's what achieved the good critics.
Sadly, I think Heath's death helped to make an spectacular BO receipts

Before you bring in the death excuse, Brad Renfro (R.I.P.) starred in The Informers and look how well that film was received. I'm expecting a lot of awards for Brad as well, because he died too.

Heath - Directors always seemed to see his potential and he showed he was great in Two Hands and Monster's Ball early in his career. His career took off after BBM. I enjoyed him in INT and he was GREAT in TDK. He was one of the most talented young actors in Hollywood and deservedly respected by his peers. Shame that he destroyed his life instead of enjoying his blossoming career and watch his child grow up. He should have gotten help which he desperately needed in my humble opinion.

Jake - he's a solid actor, he was lucky to star in more critically acclaimed films than Heath. His career will be fine. He seems mentally stablet too. And though I don't like Reese, I think this could last, I think he feels secure within this relationship.

P.S. Not even James Dean got a posthumous Oscar!

What's fun is I first see him in BBM and find him good but not thrilled and then I saw the Good Girl and DDarko. I think now he has the real potential to be more than just "solid" if he isn't lazy. I think he would show us other facet with "Nailed". What a pity.

Again, since Brad died too I'm waiting for an Oscar.

Brad is dead though, so it should help since death equals Oscar for some of you. James Dean was nominated twice and didn't win anything.

Anonymous said...

Heath was great in INT too - and he exudes masculinity in his role.

Anonymous said...

It's amazing how some people are so threatened by Heath. They don't even bother to get their facts straight. He destroyed his life? By accident on purpose I suppose. He was mentally unstable? Oh please.

Some of you are so obvious, it's sad.

The buzz in TDK and the reality was all about Heath's performance. Just how many performances propel a movie to billion dollars status. There are not enought fanboys in the world to make that happen. It was average movie goers who did that. People don't spend their hard earned money four, five, six times or more for a dead guy. It was the PERFORMANCE.

He also received a unique level of critical acclaim what for a performance in a summer blockbuster type film.

You need to give up trying to come at Heath; you will never win. And yeah, I also think Jake recognized the obvious and adored him.

Anonymous said...

I personally don't really care what Jake thought about him.
If he really adored Heath, he would have had the decency to not flash his love with Ms. Withespoon so frequently shortly after Heath passed. Didn't they show us that they can stay low key if they want to? Jake is a selfish brat, Reese too. They fit.

Yes, Heath seemed to have substance abuse problems and wasn't perfect, but I think he had a better heart than Jake, honestly.

First off, please learn to spell. Secondly, you're insane (maybe it takes one to know one--regarding Jake) if you think Jake is mentally stable. Check out his behavior the last year--is this a rational person? Not to mention he seems to go to his therapist (that's the medical building he always gets photographed going to) all the time.

Anonymous said...

I have never seen any photo of Jake staring at anyone else the way he starred at Heath. If I am mistaken, I would love to see the images. I wouldn't even count the first set of Lakers picutes with Austin because I only recall one shot of Jake looking at Austin. The implication of the look is debatable, but I have seen a number of photos of Jake starring at Heath. There are even shots of Jake looking at Heath's crotch.

If I am wrong in my assessment, I would love for someone to show me the other photos or where I can find them.

Jake Gyllenhaal. The name speaks for itself. Amazing, amazing actor. He played each and every role to a T in all his movies. It's almost impossible to deny this man's talent, and he doesn't seem to get as much credit as he deserves. He was amazing in every movie I've seen him in.

I agree but don't expect many others to do the same, you know it's either "Jake don't care of Heath", either "it was admiration". Jake admired Heath as an actor therefore he checked out his package and looked at him like he wanted to screw his brains out. Yes, he was just being a good friend.

Harry has entered Gilliam THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS and never wants to leave! said...

When I got up this morning to see Gilliam’s latest and possibly greatest film yet, I was deeply concerned about how Heath’s character was going to be handled.

Honestly. Upon leaving the theater, I couldn’t imagine it being told any other way. Even if Heath were alive, this is how I would have wanted the story handled. It isn’t the slightest bit jarring and is handled perfectly. But let’s get straight to what this film is – and I’ll get to the details shortly.

THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS is the very first full fledged unfettered Terry Gilliam fantasy since the advent of digital effects – and folks… Gilliam is about to blow your mind.

What is the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus? This won’t be easy to explain. You see, in this universe / dimension / level of existence… God is essentially a storyteller, and if he ceases to tell stories, existence will cease existing. Or at least that’s what He thinks. The world exists through the imaginings of Dr. Parnassus – who has the astonishing ability to unlock your imaginings into a vivid and limitless reality. At least, that’s how I see him. Dr. Parnassus is played by Christopher Plummer, who feels to me like a decadent, worn version of his own Rudyard Kipling from THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING.

But again. I’m getting ahead of myself.

Parnassus review

^^^ said...

Now the big question that’s on everyone’s minds is… What is left of whatever Heath Ledger shot on Doctor Parnassus?

Heath has a complete role. It is eerie. It is wonderful, but he is not necessarily a hero or a good person. Heath plays Tony. As the Imaginarium is crossing a bridge in London, Anton spots a shadow dancing on the Thames – Valentina and Percy figure out that it is a man hung off the side of the bridge by the neck… most likely dead. They attempt to rescue him, and this hanging dead man off the side of the bridge is Heath Ledger’s Tony. It is a very haunting image, but that image is his character. He is the Hanging Man. A sacrificed man. When the dead hung man is retrieved, he is brought back to life, then promptly knocks himself out. He’s placed in the rear trunk of the Imaginarium and the story continues.

There’s two sides of Heath’s Tony. The one in the perceived real world that we exist in – and the Tony that ventures to the other side of the mirror. The first time he goes, it is after an older rich woman, who was invited to venture through the magical frame. When he takes his mask off, he is no longer Heath, but Johnny Depp… the imagined fantasy of the woman, it is still his intelligence and character, but we see him as she sees him. The second time, he goes through the mirror as himself… where we see his imagination – and in his imagination, he’s Jude Law (who was actually the initial actor Terry approached to play the part of Tony). The last time he goes through, it is after Valentina – and this time he’s Colin Farrell – giving root to all of the worst aspects of Tony.

The reality of Tony, the Heath side is absolutely complete – and as this story is told, it is completely perfect. Heath’s final role is a triumph. He’s a man on the run from mafia investors in his children’s charity – and he’s the sort of man that would go to the mafia for the money. The cheap and easy road to success… but without its own damnations.

And the overall film, THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS is a brilliantly realized metaphor for Gilliam’s artistic experience. As a storyteller you have infinite possibilities, but to realize that vision you may be tempted to go the easy way, which will lead to personal and eternal torment. Whereas the road to realized vision is hard and tough, but it is in that journey that you earn that accomplishment.

^^Keep in mind that the reviewer is a Gilliam fan. As I've said, I hope other reviewers agree with him. We'll see.

Oh, so you're the one with the "admiration" bit. If it helps you sleep at night than yes, Jake only looked at Heath with admiration, no crazy lust, just admiration.

Sorry, the pic with Mark is not the same as some with Heath. Keep trying, and could you find a pic of Jake staring at Mark’s or anyone else’s crotch? Much appreciated.

I almost wonder if part of the bearding is to show TPTB that Jake can act/fake sexual chemistry with a woman. A big FAIL if it is. But seriously has Jake ever shown it in his movies? His facial expressions and voice tone in love scenes always comes off as dull with female leads and energetic with the males. For instance Jake doing the Jarhead Santa Dance with the guys had more chemistry than the wall fucking scene with the girl. Maybe TPTB are wanting to see if he can REALLY act.

Maybe gay actors would come out if people weren't mocked about 2nd grade shit. If people are going to say stupid things then why would you expose yourself to it.

Health was good in some things and bad in others. He had terrible films and good ones. He was neither a saint or a sinner. He died a stupid, wasteful death. It doesn't make him the second coming. We will never get to see what his career would have been, but he will never get old or wrinkled. He will be missed, but as I will always love River, Heath will suffer the same fate and become a footnote. Maybe he should have been in therapy, it could have helped.

Jake is alive and will have ups and downs like everyone else. I don't understand the people who are here to just be rude about him. He has talent and sometimes he is in a good movie and sometimes he isn't. He will get old (hopefully) and he will have lots of parts to show his talent.

"How many poofs Heat had on his carrer? "

This is how the Heath discussion started. Someone (12:42 PM) wanted to show how after so many failurs Heath still managed to become A List and that Jake still has a chance to have a great career after the current downs. So a Jake fanboy started to compare and then other Jake fans started to bash Heath to make Jake look better. Pathetic.

Here's an idea, compare Jake to Franco, DiCaprio Gosling... with actors who are alive! The aforementioned are better actors then Jake as well btw.

Anonymous said...

"Health was good in some things and bad in others."

It's Heath w/o the "l". He was good in many things. Did you watch some of his music videos? He wasn't only a very talented actor, I think he would have become a good director too.

Anonymous said...

I have to say this. I'm a fan of Jake and Heath, but some of Jake's fans here disgust me lately and I wish some of the tools here would stop bringing Heath up for good.
Heath is too good to be mentioned here.

Anonymous said...

"Here's an idea, compare Jake to Franco, DiCaprio Gosling... with actors who are alive! The aforementioned are better actors then Jake as well btw."

They aren't great in every movie. Leo had a few years that went nowhere. Franco's career went down and then went up. Gosling has had ups and downs two. They are on upswings right now.

My problem is that people are complaining that people are pushing Jake up by pushing Heath down. But the same people are pushing Jake down by pushing Heath up. Why can't they both be talented people?

I don't have a problem with people talking about Heath. I just wish they would get their facts straight about factual issues (such as how Heath died). We can debate the quality of Heath and Jake's work. But again, they need to quit trying to prove that Jake and Heath were on the same par as either actors or creative beings at the time of Heath's death. Heath had reached a superior level to that of Jake, as both an actor and a creative artist, at the time of his death. There is no disputing that. I wish I could find that post someone did awhile ago of all of the stuff that Heath was involved in and could do.

But for the life of me, I can't understand why Heath (it seems more than anyone else, even Reese) seems to invite these silly attempts to somehow diminish his work. It like he's some kind of threat that has to be vanquished. This doesn't compare to what some think of as Austin bashing because Austin is a partner in Jake's bearding and thus is just as open to criticism/ridicule for his acquiescence.

Does anybody know what some of this Heath stuff is about? Does it have anything to do with Jake's lust/admiration/whatever for Heath? I am really curious.

Anonymous said...

"Does anybody know what some of this Heath stuff is about? Does it have anything to do with Jake's lust/admiration/whatever for Heath? I am really curious."

It's jealousy, because Heath is more respected as an actor at the moment.

8:33, very well said. It's pathetic that some posters here feel the need bash Heath who is dead to elevate Jake. How about leaving Heath alone, stop comparing? Jake can only come out winning in a delusional, biased mind so just let it be and everyone will be happy.

Anonymous said...

Dr. Parnassus sounds great! :)

Anonymous said...

To try to get at what 8:33 asked, If Heath had been gay, Jake would have gone after him, probably leaving Austin in the dust because there is no way Austin could compete with Heath. Of course this didn't happen, but Jake's lust still throws a wrench in the Jaustin true love fantasy. It's the only reason I can think of. But I could be totally off.

Anonymous said...

"To try to get at what 8:33 asked, If Heath had been gay, Jake would have gone after him, probably leaving Austin in the dust."

If Heath had been gay, I don't think he'd have ever hooked up with a mama's boy like Jake.

As for Jaustin and real love - I don't think it ever was real love. Probably friends with benefits untiil Jake found a "better" match, Chin.

"Dr. Parnassus sounds great! :)"

If it ends up being bad, some of the Gyllenhaalics are gonna do a happy dance.

Anonymous said...

Well it looks like people have stopped trying to place Austin at the wedding. Does this mean that the scales are starting to fall away from the eyes of the Jaustinites. I must say I am surprised at how quiet they have been about this wedding episode.

Maybe they're waiting for the next set of bike pics. I do think some of them are threatened by Heath because of Jake's lust. It screws the fairytale.

The Heath doll, heh.

Sigh. Can't wait to see Dr. Parnassus - but, if I were the rich, older woman in TIODP, as much as I love Johnny Depp, I'd still want it to be Heath under the mask. :)

I do think some of them are threatened by Heath because of Jake's lust.Actually, it's just creepy that people idealize the dead and won't let them rest. Is it worse to project fantasy on the living or the dead?

Did anyone ever come up with a photo of Jake starring at anyone else's crotch beside Heath's.

And I agree, Heath was The Sex. Depending on the role, he could radiate an almost primal sexuality.

Anonymous said...

I don't think anyone is "idealizing" anything - just enjoying Heath's body of work and payming homage to that and his awesome talent. What's wrong with that? We're celebrating Heath when he was alive - others seem to be focusing on the fact that he's no longer with us. You don't forget a magnificent actor's work.

I feel the same way about Jake's work, but sorry, while I can respect the fact that J&R may be a serious couple, I just can't muster up any enthusiasm for them. His work, yes.
