Heath's Birthday
I remember a conversation with Robert Richardson, the Director of Photography on "Four Feathers": "Just make sure that the audience are able to look into Heath's eyes. They tell a story of ancient wisdom and all of humanity." Not an easy job for a DP when Heath would so easily break into an Australian crinkle and narrow his eyes, so that the point of light so carefully placed by the DP would search desperately for its subject! I used to tell Heath that he was an ancient soul in a youthful body and mind. That his struggle was between the ancient wisdom he carried in his soul and coming to terms with his youth.
That struggle showed and I - the 'brother from another mother' as he called me - embraced him at those moments.
I wish I was there to embrace him when he passed away. I was so close. But then, it was not meant to be.

The Departed was the copy of Infernal Affaire, the only difference is the former takes place in USA and the original in Asia so yeah "the location were reinvented , social and cultural elements were exchanged" cause there is a great difference between Asiatic Culture and American culture but overall , having seen both movies, the Departed is a pure remake!

Both were blonde, sensitive and talented. But to me River always came off as fragile, unstable. Heath came off like someone who's strong and stable. That's why I was surprised about the pills he was on. I guess he was more fragile than his strong/masculin looks would suggest.

I expect Brothers to be a good movie, maybe even excellent (great script + good actors), but I don't think there will be GG or Oscar nominations - such movies and roles usually have a lot of buzz.

I don't get why everyone seems surprised that Tobey is a good actor? Now I'm gonna be hated for this, but I've watched most of Tobey's and Jake's films and I think Tobey is the better actor. Jake's good too and cuter, but Tobey is better.
Brothers/chemistry - I read Jake is absolutely crazy about Nat Portman. That's why I believe the early reports that the chemistry between them is great in the film.
I am actually looking forward to Brothers very, very much. I have always loved Tobey as an actor - he was truly outstanding in The Cider House Rules and Seabiscuit. Such a high quality actor makes a superhero franchise that much better, as we know from TDK, where we had a boatload of them contributing, esp. our sweetie Heath. Jake I think will be the same way, truly outstanding as Jack Twist, and there's a resemblance between he and Tobey, which will make Brothers all the more interesting to follow. :)

Well I respect that but totally think the contrary. I first saw Jake 's films and found him good. I only knew Tobey through Spiderman and I heard he and Jake were compared so I saw the first Tobey's films "wonder boys" and " Ice storm" and feeled completely disappointed , Tobey show no emotion , his face is static compared to Jake's. His acting is flat to me.
But Brothers can prove me wrong!
I am not a fan of Tobey either but I trust Sheridan , he is usually a good actor'director so I am looking foward what he did with these three.

12:21 PM, Michelle got pretty crappy reviews for Deception and Incendiary. From all the films she did after BBM only Wendy and Lucy was acclaimed. Still it wasn't enough for her to land either a GG nor an Oscar nom.
I think she was great in BBM as was Anne Hathaway. But honestly, I think Anne is the more versatile actress of the two. Much more range IMO. Anne's career will be by far better.
I kinda wonder about the Reeke/Gywn/Chris Martin dinner. Unless I see piocs of the 4 of them I doubt they were together. first, it makes Reeke seem relevant and like they socialize with other HW couples (it makes them real!), 2nd are we really to believe Gywn and Martin get along all that well? Gywn is also busy shooting on Ironman right now. And wtf was all the groceries about? So Reeke could go out to dinner?! If anything the dinner out was probably with PR/management, Chinormica looking happy that Reeke still has to continue and Jake miserable that he ever got into the mess.

I was reading on one of Heath's memorial sites that he was Ambassador for a foundation for the indigenous children of Australia (The David Wirrpanda Foundation). Both he and Michelle were quietly involved in this. You can still make donations in his name. What a great man in so many ways. :)

And, no its not a big deal, but the way that Jake doesn't seem to be able to function without wearing a hat / wear a hoody, at the moment would seem to suggest that it may be quite a big deal to him. My final comment on 'the hair issue'. As calm down says, the hat pulls the hair back, but it doesn't pull the hair out. I've just looked at some earlier pics of Jake from 2007 (yeah I know, get a life already) and he now definately has a widow's peak where before he had the most fabulous thick hair. Not that this is a problem, men with receding hair are just as atractive as men with a full head of hair, but it is something to deal with. Doubt it's the result of extensions (although removing them can cause hair loss) more a simple case of genetics (and you can't fight those can you).

I think Reeke socialises with work related people for publicity. They are seen with RDJ and Reese will work with him. They were spotted with Ben Stiller and Reese will work with him too. Now Gwyneth Paltrow and there was that plant that Gwyneth and Jake were talking about a project at the RDJ party, so I assume that they are seen together because they will probably work together. It’s all publicity.

I gathered from the Zodiac commentary that RDJr bucks Jake up when Jake is feeling bad about himself. A kind of mentor relationship. Fincher said zilch about Jake in commentary, complimented others. RDJr told him he did a good job.

Families say the gesture shows that the new Democratic administration values them as equal to other families. Our Prez is a man of his word - a great step forward, progress, and these events are priceless in helping the country see all families as real, and equal. While those opposed don't necessarily have to agree, I think everyone is coming to the realization that everyone is entitled to basic civil rights, and cannot deny that fact, regardless of where they stand on the issue. :)

Adam Lambert Makes Our Love even Madder
Adam Lambert wowed again on American Idol with a rendition of the Tears for Fears classic "Mad World" (covered in 2003 by Gary Jules for the film Donnie Darko), and didn't receive much commentary for it as the show was running close to ten minutes over its limit, but I can't remember the last time Simon Cowell gave a standing ovation.

What? Are you people still indulging in this loony Obama-revisionism? Man of his word? This idiot has flip-flopped more times than practically any president I've ever seen, from FISA to earmarks, the surge, ethical standards for nominees, signing statements, the AIG bonus scandal, the scope of executive power, and Guantanamo Bay ( still being studied'). I stopped counting his incompetent, manipulative, opportunistic flip-flops.
And his Easter Egg invitation to gay couples demonstrates his commitment to gay rights? Does that commitment include nominating Tony Dungy (anti-gay former coach) for some faith-based position, inviting Rev. Warren to the inauguration, refusing to immediately rescind DADT or still believing that marriage is for heterosexuals only? Oh, and by the way, for the historically challenged amongst us, Bush welcomed gay couples to the White House Easter Egg hunt as well. Did that symbolic embrace demonstrate any serious commitment to gay marriage? No.
Celebrate tremendous queer victories in Vermont, DC and Iowa, but don't bring Obama into this. He had *nothing* to do with any of it. Absolutely nothing. Don't cheapen the hard work of experienced, courageous, principled gay activists all over the country who don't flip-flop on their commitment to gay rights whenever it suits their political purposes.
As usual, Obama doesn't want to do the hard work; he just wants the prize, and the prize in this case is not queer liberation. It's media exposure, fundraising momentum and re-election. And that's it.

^^Michelle was on a break since she finished Shutter Island in spring 2008. Only now she'll start working on the film with Gosling. She said she worked all of 2008 and needed a longer break, because she was tired. I think it's the same with Jake.
Jake needed a break, four months is more than enough to rest and reboot.

The problem with taking long breaks between films is surely that this results in long breaks between film releases. Okay, Jake currently doesn't face this problem as he has three films with delayed / postponed release dates, so he could take the whole year of and still know that PoP will be coming out in summer 2010. Surely to stay relevant (and have some form of fanbase) you really need a steady stream of films coming out, at least one / two every year.
Who needs movies to stay relevant when I got Reese?

Do you really believe Jake slept with the POP producer to get the part? I know he always wanted to play a hero and have a franchise, but what was so great about POP that he wanted it so badly and maybe even slept with this uglo producer? If he wants a franchise he should have waited for something better.
Reese is Jake's beard, she has no real opportunity to treat Jake badly as she did with Ryan, she's just boring Jake to death.
DOn't confuse how long it's been since he worked on a movie set (4 months) with how long it's been since he firmly secured a movie role (over a year). The former is entirely reasonable but the latter is an utter embarassment, especially for a well-known, Oscar-nominated heartthrob with a full-time, well-known, well-connected beard. There's nothing even remotely stressful about accepting a firm movie role. The idea that he's too exhausted to sign a sheet of paper accepting a firm role is completely nonsense.
As time goes on, one thing becomes perfectly clear : Jake's career is in a semi-stall. He is not getting the roles he wants, and if he hadn't secured PoP, he's be in free-fall right now. Stop creating excuses and deal with it.
CAA is spending more time arranging photo-ops than securing firm, juicy film roles for Jake. They are not doing their job, Reese's influence over studio heads is hitting a glass ceiling, and his parent have lost all of their clout.
