12 Reasons It's Better to Be Gay
Oh sure, we can't get married, we can get fired for no good reason at all and there are angry pastors claiming we're all going to burn in the eternal pits of damnation (so long as they're not there, that's fine, by the way). But if you asked if we could trade being gay for being straight, we'd laugh in your face. Here are 12 ways that being a homo beats the pants off the breeder lifestyle any day of the week.
1. The Sex.
By far, the best part about being a gay dude is that sex is totally easy. I know this sort of propagates the whole 'gay men are sluts' meme, but it's the god's honest truth. Men like sex and so, stick two of us together and sex comes pretty easily. It's a fact of life that lots of gay men, meet, hook-up and become friends and when we tell this to our straight friends, they're very jealous.
If you really want to depress your straight friends, explain that your partner will never withhold sex until you do the dishes or take out the trash or what not. Never happens.
Oh – and nobody ever gets accidentally pregnant!
2. Double the wardrobe.
This is an old Seinfeld joke, but as a closet full of ex-boyfriends' clothes (we trade!) attests to, you don't just get the boy, you get his fashion, too. There's something incredibly sexy about seeing the guy you're into hopping into your jeans.
3. We're more open-minded.
Look, I'm a blond-haired, blue-eyed white boy who grew up in middle-class suburbia. I'd like to think that I would be a tolerant, open-minded person regardless of my sexuality, but being gay has done a lot to make me a better human being. There's a world of difference between sympathy and empathy and knowing what it's like to be treated differently simply because of who you are. It opens your mind to the casual racism and classism in this country.
4. We can ask for directions.
Lost your way? No reason to demand you know the right way to go, just pull over and ask a gas station attendant. Can someone explain to me why straight guys can't do this?
5. We do not presume every straight person wants to sleep with us.
Without fail, at some point in the friendship of every straight pal I've ever had, they've alluded to the fact that I must secretly want to bang them. I used to explain to most of them that they aren't my type, but after one-too-many bruised egos, I've learned to keep quiet and just smile.
6. All these awesome people.
Sexuality crosses so many boundaries that when you're gay, you're bound to meet people who are not like you. In seeking out people who are like you, you inevitably meet people who are not like you at all. One of my first friends at college was this gay guy named Don. We bonded over a love of Kenneth Branagh and the Dewey Decimal System, and when I dumped my first college boyfriend, Don was worried I was doing it to be with him and divulged to me that he was a female-to-male transsexual. At 19, this blew my mind and I had all sorts of questions: "Why would you go from being a straight woman to being a gay guy?" ("All the good ones are gay"), "But, it'd be so much easier!" ("Yeah, but I've always seen myself as a boy—sexuality is independent of gender") and while we didn't find love, we became best friends. I don't know that's something that would have happened if I were straight.
7. The Toaster Oven.
As you all know from your own coming out experience, one of the great gay thing about being gay is all the toaster ovens you get when your recruit new gays to the cause. The only down shot of this is that, at this point, I'm eating toast morning, noon and night.
8. We're not threatened by strong-willed women.
In fact, we love them and idolize them. If you're a gal who knows what she wants and is willing to claw and fight to make it in a man's world, gay men will be there cheering you all the way. The straight boys will cower in fear and call you a bitch. Bitch? Honey, you have no idea.
9. It's easier to be yourself.
We don't envy our straight male buddies. There's a lot of discussion about female gender roles being constricting, but most guys don't even talk about it; it's just "drink beer, watch football, dress slobby." One of the great things about the gay rights movement is that it's making it easier for straight guys to be themselves and express non-standard interests. For gay guys, it's just expected. Want to unrepentantly sing musical theater songs in the shower? Go for it. For instance, I'm a nerdy bookworm. I talk about the NYTimes Books Review section with my friends. I drag friends to art gallery openings—and until this moment, I never really thought twice about what people might say about it.
10. It is much easier to get cast in a reality TV show.
Oh, so you juggle, are related to the British crown and live on the back of your motorcycle? Awesome. We're gay and have snappy catchphrases. Do you really want to compete?
11. We have friends everywhere.
Go to any major city and ask where the gay district and you'll have an instant network. Gays are all about creating their own families and, for the most part, we take kindly to strangers. In fact, a lot of the time, we don't even have to try. How many times has someone come up to you and said, "Hey, you have to meet my friend, Kenny! He's gay too!" which can get really old, but how many straight guys have a cavalcade of girls trying to set them up? Exactly.
12. To the kids, we are the coolest members of our family.
Everyone loves the guncle. You bring the coolest toys, you listen to what the kids say and when they come over, they get treated like royalty. While some of the adults in your family may judge you, to the kids, you are God—God with a frozen hot chocolate.
13. We are inherently fun.
It's right there in the name: "Gay." There's an expectation that gay folks are good times, and while we get depressed like the rest of the world, for the most part, we're happy to oblige. If you want to do something, it takes on an instant cool cachet, simply because you're a big 'mo who must know what he's doing. It doesn't matter if it's stock car racing or ballet, you come with an instant stamp of cultural authority that you can use to your endless amusement.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 1359 Newer› Newest»I'm a semi veg, but I have to say that Chris has one of the most beautiful food blogs I have ever seen. :)
There is no reason for things to end bitterly between Reese and Jake. They are not emotionally invested in each other. When they perceive the relationship is no longer mutually beneficial, they will quietly part ways.
I think when Ted said that he was actually referring to Jake's relationship with Austin where he is emotionally invested.
Or at least Austin thinks so.
They made a blood pact...
...that will end with BLOOD
You think money is not emotional? Think again.
I'm sure that when it ends Reese will do her best to make Jake look bad so as to make herself look good.
I'm sure that when it ends Reese will do her best to make Jake look bad so as to make herself look good.
Well, duh! ;)
Reese had plenty of money before getting involved with Jake and she will have plenty when they break up. She didn't cause a lot of drama when she and Ryan broke up, and that is where she was emotionally and finacially invested.
She is not going to cause any drama with Jake. It would only make her look foolish. The relationship will be written off as either a rebound for her or as a good thing that happened but than it ran its course and time for both of them now to move on but they will always remain friends.
Nope, I think Ted was referring to Austin and Jake. Now if they blow up, the results have the potential for tragedy.
He may or may not have been with Austin or Chris. I think he had a massive lust for Heath.
I think he an Austin were more than just friends. Chris, I think, is just a platonic childhood friend. With Heath, I think, the attraction might have been mutual, maybe more on Jake's side though. But I think attraction is a normal reaction in this situation. They became friends and respected each other, then did all this intimate scenes together and probably enjoyed it. Both back then were in the beginning/mid twens, young and beautiful. I bet attraction would have happened in this very same situation with most people, especially when they are maybe bi-curious, like I think Heath was, and bisexual (maybe leaning more towards men) that's what I think Jake is.
Y'know the Gyllenhaal men seem to have an affinity in the dirction of evil women.
Maybe it's some kind of Swedenborgian therapy to cure one of homo tendancies.
It's all very mysterious.
I think I'll get a tattoo. (this has nothing to do with present conversation)
Jake and Drunkst
What a difference to his behaviour with Chinny. At first everythng might have been ok between Reeke, but now I think it's just a matter of time till it's over and out whatever it is.
He was a kid, with Kiki, they were just horsing around, nothing serious.
She was often bored with him.
He was needy, as he is.
But I agree - Reeke is not gonna work. For either one. Just hope one of them doesnt show up with a black eye.
I think Jake has better self control than Reese. I think she's the one that's going to break.
Just hope one of them doesnt show up with a black eye.
Didn't Ryan or Reese show up with a black eye to a public event some years ago? I know it was probably not because of a physical fight, although I think at the time they were fighting a lot verbally.
I think she's the one that's going to break.
It's business, Reese will "break" only if Jake tries to break the deal when it doesn't suit her.
I think Chris the mighty slayer of bunny rabbits and Austin are both gayer than Jake.
^ ^ ^
like, "why do these queens keep coming on to me?"
I don't know about Chris, but yeah Austin is most likely gay. Even Lainey thinks that (not that she's right most of the time, but this I believe).
At first everythng might have been ok between Reeke
No, Rome 2007 pictures are cringe-worthy awkward, I thought Reeke is real until I saw Jake's body language.
No, Rome 2007 pictures are cringe-worthy awkward, I thought Reeke is real until I saw Jake's body language.
Yes he was awkward, because it was obviously a planned photo op. Doesn't mean they weren't "real". Doesn't matter, Reeke will sooner be over than we think.

Heh - what's with the unplated peas? Or am I not seeing correctly?
Yes he was awkward, because it was obviously a planned photo op. Doesn't mean they weren't "real".
Of course it means they were faking, both of them did a lot of planned photo ops before Rome.
Jake was paped 100 times with different girls and women, but he never looked awkward like that.
It was the first time Reeke had to pretend to be a couple and touching the beard was uneasy.
"unplated" - is that a restaurant term? meaning main dish is not on plate?
thanks.
She didn't cause a lot of drama when she and Ryan broke up, and that is where she was emotionally and finacially invested.
Duh!
Reese is a PR professional, she kept her dirty laundry hidden and worked on the fauxmance.
Plus, that way she can use her "classy divorce" stories for the self-promotion. PR win-win!
I think Chris the mighty slayer of bunny rabbits and Austin are both gayer than Jake.
Why?
"I think Chris the mighty slayer of bunny rabbits and Austin are both gayer than Jake.
Why?"
Sensitive gaydar. That's all. You got it or you don't.
I don't have a gaydar, I rely on gays :)
I dont get yr joke, 6:29
Ive been thinking about so-called "gaydar" - may be diff'rent in men, and women.
I think it's very primal, although, as above, may be diffrent for men, and women
The thing that happens, in your head: "click" - he's gay.
Seldom wrong. if ever.
I dont get yr joke, 6:29
It wasn't a joke. I'm a straight girl and don't have so-called "gaydar".
I mean I dont get yr joke 6:43
sorry
although I guess you mean you count on the person himself proclaiming his identity.
Jake is 'unavailable' to promote Brothers in the fall ; the film is postponed
Tobey Maguire 'doesn't like' Cannes , therefore no screening of Brothers at festival
Does anyone else see a pattern emerging?
March 20, 2009 12:39 PM
Yes! What's happening with 'Brothers'? oh Jakey-poo :'(
sorry again, 6:29. I thought it was a joke because of the smiley.
but just because you dont have it, dont knock it. it can be protective and adapative.
I count on gay men to tell me who's in the closet - I trust thier so-called "gaydars".
Don't be sad 6:58 PM, "Brothers" and little fucker will be fine.
Heh - what's with the unplated peas? Or am I not seeing correctly?
"Gathering of hunters and fishermen" - maybe peas have something to do with symbolic buckshot ?
Why do they need badges to eat a meal?
Oh it must be a chef's term. but for what? Im so curious,
"Why do they need badges to eat a meal?"
I think it's a gay thing.
Or else, these are like shields for when they catapault peas on their forks at one another.
Tobey doesn't want to go to Cannes because his wife is due to give birth around the time of the Festival.
He doesn't have to go, why would that matter?
I think it's a gay thing. Or else, these are like shields for when they catapault peas on their forks at one another.
Sounds like my kind of dinner!
Oh gosh I just looked at the site again, at some places the peas are ACTUALLY unplated! How hilarious! My stomadh aches from laughing. What can be the meaning!
I assume the bacon is wrapped around raw innards, but whose? I assume since these are hunters they are of wild animals. it seems a shape to wrap the innard of an animal in its own fat. kinda like cooking the meat of a calf in the milk of its own mothers. but - whatever!
He doesn't have to go, why would that matter?
Jake and Natalie can go alone. It wouldn't be a problem. I don't think Tobey not wanting to go is the reason, the movie probably wasn't picked. Doesn't mean it's a bad movie though. BBM wasn't picked for Cannes either.
Gunner's Dinner Duxbury
Actually that was Confuse Blog Readers Dinner.
"unplated" - is that a restaurant term? meaning main dish is not on plate?
thanks.
March 20, 2009 6:21 PM
sorry, no, just a joke. First, check Chris's blog.
Second, look at this picture from his blog.
Am I seeing correctly? Are the peas just served on the tablecloth? And thus "unplated."
"Gathering of hunters and fishermen" - maybe peas have something to do with symbolic buckshot ?
March 20, 2009 7:04 PM
lol, maybe they painted some pellets.
What can be the meaning!
Maybe somebody said "I just want peas" ?
LOL!

The Big Penis Book - Amazon.com customer review:
Wow!
Oh dear. I am a 70 year old woman and I just happened across this big penis book in my son's room. My son is 45 years old and still single. I think he might be gay. That said, his big penis book is now in my room under my bed. So now my 45 year old single son is probably gay and angry. Well, he should get a job anyway or at least go find some real penis and stop reading about them in books like this. Good Lord this is a big penis book. And I love a big penis. And so does my son, apparently. I give this book ten thumbs up. I can't believe I never knew he was gay. He should get a job. Maybe as a dancer. Anyway, if you like a big penis, you will like this big penis book. Lord there are big penis's in this book. I mean big. Oh dear.

LOL
RDJ has never looked sexier. :)
Here is yet another quote illustrating what a bitch Reese is. She was "sadly stripped" of her assumption that she controlled everything in her life? The more I read her quotes the more sympathy I have for her exhusband. I don't think the universe pointed her in another direction I think he did. I can't believe Jake picked this woman!!
Q: Your production company is called Type A Films. And a few years ago, you said, "I spend a lot of time considering and planning my life and career." Is that still the case?
A: Probably not as much so. I had this notion that you could control everything in your life, which I've been sadly stripped of. It's actually a good thing to realize that the universe is pointing you in different directions all the time. Great stuff comes out of the unknown.
Posted on OMG by TR
Reese is trying to prove that she isn't proper and doesn't have a stick up her ass. There are a lot of comments about her being too uptight and she is on a tear trying to disprove that idea. She even addressed it in her Elle magazine article. The goal of the Leno appearance in addition to pushing the movie is to have viewers think: She's funny! She jokes about farts! She lets her kids eat with their hands! Gosh she is just like you and me. Don't you love her even more now? It's almost impossible not to!
The sad thing about BWR and Team Reese's full penetration model is that it works. BWR studies all the consumer data they have and adjusts the product to meet the needs of an ever changing marketplace. They are good at what they do. But if you're paying attention you'll notice how disingenuous Reese come across. I can't stand her more than ever.
March 19, 2009 10:59 PM
Maybe it did in the past, ie the smear campaign against Ryan. However, if the dwindling amount of comments her pics/articles/sound bites generate, and the general tone of those few are any indication, this time, after two years of Reeking showmance fakery, that particular PR tactic is/has failed.
Even those self identified General fans are growing weary.
If Brothers were really good, the studio would be pushing to get it out there. No, wait, good is the wrong term. The acting is probably good. The word marketable is more appropriate. Downer films in a recession don't sell. Jake does not want another low box office film on his resume. He wasn't available the first time it was due out. Now, it's Toby not available. Next it will be Natalie's turn. Since when are all the stars ever required to be present for a movie's promo. It will get a release date when they think it has a chance of selling tickets.
Hmmm. Maybe I dont want to know what's in chris's meat pie "inspired by Fergus Henderson"
Fergus Henderson (born 1963) is an English chef who founded the St John restaurant in St John St, London. He is often noted for his use of offal and other neglected cuts of meat as a consequence of his philosophy of Nose To Tail Eating.
Squirrel nuts, anyone?
:) :)
Fergus Henderson explains How to Eat a Pork Pie
This one looks a little, I don't know ... :)
Looks like a marrow bone sticking up out of the meat pie.
See? See what a good job PR did with Ryan? 10:55 fell for every word.
Where did you hear, how do you know that he cheated? In the tabloids, on the internet?
Just as you say, the world isn't a simple black and white. Neither are most marriage break-ups.
The General was hardly the innocent victim to her husband's evil ways. It takes two to tango, sixty nine and divorce.
Page six sighting from November 2006.
HEATH Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, who star as gay cowboys in "Brokeback Mountain," leaving the Hotel Gansevoort.
jossip
Either you take it with a grain of salt, or if they really met, maybe they met there to eat? The hotel has also a great restaurant. :)
11:20, read what I wrote. I didn't say Reese what an innocent party in her marriage.
I don't like Reese, but Ryan was a cheating ass. Ryan's cheating was common knowledge, not pr spin.
If Reese was such a horror, he should have grown a spine and left.
She's a bitch; he's a lying cheat.
You see; I don't live in a black/white world.
11:27, was award season over by then?
11:27, I wish they were trysting there (shoot me but I'm a Heath/Jake slash fan) but the truth is they did their EW magazine cover shoot at the hotel.
Common knowledge? Where did this common knowledge come from? Where did you hear/see all this info about just how horrible Ryan was to Reese? What are your "common knowledge" sources?
Every word that comes out about Reese, and Jake for that matter, with the exception of gossip, is PR. Please tell me you don't deny that, at least.
From what I've see since from those two, Ryan is by far the more adult, and much classier, too.
11:27, was award season over by then?
Correction it was November 2005, means before award season 2005/2006which, I believe, started with the Golden Globes in December 2005.
Previously both guys attenended the festivals in Venice and Toronto in September 2005.
11:27, I wish they were trysting there (shoot me but I'm a Heath/Jake slash fan) but the truth is they did their EW magazine cover shoot at the hotel.
I see. Thanks.
What, you think that Reese just began to use the media to her image's advantage with the showmance? That before Reeke hit the tabloids, every story that hit was utterly spin in Reese's direction free?
Yeah, right.
She's been a PR whore from the very start.
Ryan is classy? Oh please. He was more than willing to fake his relationship with Reese when she was campaigning for her Oscar. He could have shown some balls and not go along with the charade.
He didn't. And yes, he cheated on her. Some of you are so benighted by Reese hate that you will rationalize anybody else's bad behavior as long as you can somehow make it her fault.
She's a bitch; he's a dick.
Deal with it.
We've been talking on this site before how the number of out gay/bi actors seems less than even for the general population, let alone for a creative profession which probably attracts more gay/bi men than other professions. That's why I'm not surprised when Ted C comes up with another gay BI, while the disbelievers roll their eyes and say "oh, is every actor gay, Ted?"
The sudden and shocking death of Natasha Richardson reminded me that not only was her father, the director Tony Richardson bisexual (though allegedly more leaning towards gay in later years), but her maternal grandfather Sir Michael Redgrave was also famously bisexual.
For those who don't know him he was extremely famous in the UK, as is Natasha's mother Vanessa Redgrave.
Micheal Reggrave
That should be Redgrave above of course.
Unless Ent Lawyer saw an actual contract, they don't know anything either.
I don't believe there is an actual contract. Reese certainly doesn't and didn't need the money. Jake has never been hard up.
Disney may have behaviorial clauses, but I am sure it doesn't require Jake to date Reese or any other women. He would just need to behave himself and not be out as a gay man. He had always done that; no big deal there.
I think Jake and Reese are together to satisfy their own professional and personal reasons.
I think the constant references to "contracts" is an attempt to rationalize the choices these two adults have voluntarily made.
I appreciate your thoughts on this but imo, I think you are being quite dismissive about the way Hollywood works.
The logic and common sense we would apply as "ordinary joes", the stuff we assume occurs in the entertainment industry would apply, because it's logical, often doesn't apply.
Hollywood and celebrity works in reverse, it is entirely image-based. You sell yourself as product to the world. If contracts are to be involved so be it. They kill or ward of gossip and rumors and benefit both parties usually in terms of publicity and public perception. Monetarily, even if one party doesn't "need" the money, hehe, you think they might not "need" it but a cool million or whatever would come in handy for acting a role in public that takes very little specific effort.
Contracting is as old as the hills. I am not saying they are contracted, but it would not surprise.
I too am interested about Ian H's site. It seems to have moved away from Toothy and be focusing solidly on Angelina, when not trying to out Mr Obama.
Not that I was an Ian believer to the core, just thought some of what he had to say on Toothy was interesting and made some sense, but you can never tell if it's pure bandwagon jumping because he knows people are interested and will come to his site.
I am wry of these sites becaue so many now are affiliate marketing related. Traffic and hits plus clicking the ad links makes them lots of money. A few Toothy stories - oh and esp. Jolie-Pitt will have the cash tills ringing day and night over there now. So it's hard to take him totally seriously, though I think he has some good sources and probably is near the mark with Toothy.
He seems to have a lot of eggs spread in several baskets, and has been right on a few things, but hasn't come through on others. He's relying a lot on Trisha Trifle Tits or whatever s/he's called, the Bi Bronx Blogger, who talks in riddles even Ted would struggle with.
There is without doubt a contract.
So, it's Ryan's fault now that he and Reese faked a happy marriage during Oscar season, all for The General's benefit? Check back to my taking two point on this. But, glad that you admit that she's not above lying to the public for the sake of her image
It's his fault, too, I suppose, that when the tables were turned, when he had the Academy Award show to do, Reese bailed on him. Once again, what she wanted was more important.
I don't know Ryan, not really. I do know, however, how he is around his children - very solicitous and protective, refusing to parade them for the paps - and how his children act around him - Ava happy and smiling, with Abbie, too, and Deacon proudly holding Daddy's hand, relaxed and content. Compare that to what we've seen when they are out with mom, or mom and her gay 'boyfriend.' A world of difference.
Ryan doesn't pimp his children for publicity/image/showmance purposes, a shameful practice that Reese has willingly participated in on numerous occasions.
Yeah, Reese is a bitch, on that we certainly can agree.
Tony Richardson, the bi father of Natasha, left his wife Vanessa Readgrave for ....... Jeanne Moreau.
See Jake leave Reese for Marion Cotillard (born September 30, 1975). ;)
I offer to bark in French.
^^ :)
Where would either one of them be without this showmance, especially Reese? When I saw her alone promoting MvA, that's when it finally clicked for me. I don't follow HW gossip until TT, but I don't think I have ever seen such a systematic approach to trying to create an image. To me, Brangelina already has it, doens't need much to keep it going, but J&R are really working this. Most actors and their spouses don't seem to do this. And are we really sure Ryan cheated on Reese, or is it just another rumor?

Others had the same idea back in 2005 :)
I wish they were trysting there.
I almost sounds like it. Sigh.
Sorry, should be "it almost sounds like it. The very thought leaves me unable to type! ;)
Correction it was November 2005
SORRY, I missed that, I should read posts more carefully.
From Datalounge:
Reese was humiliated because everyone in Hollywood knew she was faking her marriage during the Oscar run. She blew it by getting to manipulative. Ryan would have played along but she lured him to the beach with the kids and staged a photo op. He chased the paparazzi guy who was taking their pictures and the guy told him how he happened to be there. Reese ran to a friends house with the kids and when Ryan showed up it was OVER. She should have left it alone but he was done playing along from that day forward.
I've seen this posted there before from way back in '06 someone has been saying this is what happened. FWIW I always thought Ryan planned on staying with her on paper and doing his own thing on the side but according to this he was laying the groundwork to leave early in 2006. I assumed he pushed for a divorce only after he fell in love with someone else. But who knows. One thing for sure Reese is a career driven person whose #1 concern is her job. If he cheated on her as much as people say there would be some evidence that would have surfaced. A few posts on a blog is all that ever appeared about Ryan so he couldn't have been constantly cheating like some people want you to believe.
Dark Knight's Christopher Nolan's brother arrested for murder
All I know about the Ryan cheating rumors comes from people like Ted and Lainey.
The rumors I read said that the marriage was over before the oscar campaign but he still went along with portraying the "happy family" with Reese.
I dislike Reese, but that will not make me like Ryan or feel sorry for him.
He's a grown man, and if the Reese was so awful for so long, why did he stay? No balls. I think he cheated alot until he met Abbie and actually fell in love again.
Jossip didn't know about the photo shoot?
He's a grown man, and if the Reese was so awful for so long, why did he stay?
Children.
I didn't follow Reese until she appeared with Jake but since then I have read what is around about her marriage and Ryan always sounds rather confused and unhappy in all of his quotes. He grew up finally and was honest with himself and the public and that is more admirable then staying but he obviously could have handled it better. I don't feel sorry for him but I do like him. He seems like a good parent and not a sell out like his ex-wife.
Jossip didn't know about the photo shoot?
Hotel Gansevoort sighting is from November 6, 2005
Entertainment Weekly with Heath and Jake cover is from December 9, 2005
EW
Ryan seems very quiet, keeps his private life in the background, and by all appearances is a loving and devoted Dad. OTOH, Reese is constantly in the news. There's been so much caginess and secrecy with Reeke, right from the very beginning - during the Rendition promos. I think it was then that I started to have a gut feeling that something was off. I never followed her either, but we were impressed by her work in WTL. I became interested in Jake after BBM. They just seem very smug and disingenuous to me. It should be interesting to see what happens.
Where would either one of them be without this showmance, especially Reese? When I saw her alone promoting MvA, that's when it finally clicked for me.
Hallelujah!
LOL! I'm a little slow, what can I say? ;)
You should read some of the stuff Ted has written about Ryan.
11:26 AM
Better late than never.
Ted had a BI about how someone who sounded a lot like Ryan was going to spill the real beans about his shrew of an ex-wife.
I doubt that Ryan would dare to say anything. He would then have to explain how he got together with Abbie while he was still married.
Maybe Reese was cheating on him too? If the marriage was over by then, who know what really happened. These things are always deeper than they appear on the surface.
What's there to explain? It's public knowledge that Ryan and Abbie were together before the divorce.
I would love to know where Heath and Jake went after the photo shoot.
So were Reese and Jake?
"The websites, the gossip pages, and all of that stuff have hurt my career – they're like the Burn Books of Hollywood… but I really don't feel like I should have to prove myself to anyone because of living out my college years in the public eye."
- Lindsay Lohan [DailyMail]
So were Reese and Jake?
Reeek fauxmance started two weeks after the divorce was announced.
Ryan and Abbie were together long before the divorce was announced.
Has it never occurred to that idiot that she is jobless because she runs around acting like a wasteful, irresponsible, unreliable, nutjob?
^^Whatever the reason, very little time was wasted with Reeke.
Has anyone heard any rumors about Austin and this Hilarie person from Southern Gothic?
I mean romantic/sexual rumors?
Whatever the reason, very little time was wasted with Reeke.
The reason is very clear and simple - Reese didn't want media and fans to discuss her divorce or Ryan and Abbie. Fauxmance was a great way to do it, to sell "she's better off with Jake" crap.
Posted on OMG
Austin and I [Hilarie Burton] were scouring the beach, searching for inspiration. And then she appeared.
Southern Gothic Productions (video)
11:53, I agree that something is very unbelievable about their relationship. It's almost too good to be true - never any problems. Jim Dandy came to the rescue in Europe again, and it always is making her shine. Something isn't right, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.
Jake and Reese are friends, not lovers. There is no reason for there to be problems and drama.
If it ends, it will be a quiet fade. They will probably do it somewhat like Heath and Michelle.
That relationship ended months before an official announcement was made.
My guess it that the announcement of Reese and Jake's breakup will take place during some major event so that it won't track too much immediate attention and this will be coupled with shots of each of them at separate events looking healthy and happy.
People will chalk it up to a typical rebound relationship for Reese and Jake will be heartbroken but he will always remember his good times with Reese. And of course the two of them will always be friends.
This interest will last for about a week and then on to something else.
Both people will have gotten what they wanted out of the relationship and everybody wins.
I hope that's not true. I hope Reese gets outed for being a fame whore and a fraud. Her bits on Leno were so scripted and her hysterical laughter was so forced. I think people are starting to see through her.
One needs to pay attention to see Reese's fakeness, but she's too bland and uninteresting for that = she's safe.
^^Sounds about right. :)
Just for those who are interested, some Spike/Michelle rag gossip. ;)
Supposedly he wants her to move out of her Brooklyn house, but she refuses. He also doesn't like that she and Matilda stay in the house for days and not coming out. A third thing he supposedly doesn't like is her nude scene(s) with Ewan in Incendiary. According to the rag mag they are fighting a lot.
So, we are to believe that Reese went from complete fidelity within her marriage to all hot and heavy with Jake in two weeks? Two weeks? From wedded bliss to (gay) BF in two weeks? Sheesh. Reese, the emotional quick change artist.
For those that believe in Reeke, the time frame sort of paints Reese with the same cheating ass brush that tarred Ryan, don't it?
For those that don't believe in Reeke, two weeks just adds more fuel to the fake of monumental proportions bonfire.
Not even going to bring up the kids and how bringing a new person into their lives so close on the heels of lossing their father is about the biggest no-no for helping them to cope with divorce.
Or...
The marriage was over LONG before those two weeks, but it was still pimped in the press for image purposes. Seems things haven't changed much for Reese, only the names of her photo op partner.
You got it on the last try.
Spike/Michelle rag gossip
Movie director complaining about actress's nude scene(s)? Why rags insist on insulting people's intelligence?
If that gossip is true, Michelle needs to kick that man to the curb in good style. Michelle probably has been through hell, and doesn't need any more crap from him. He hasn't been around long enough to start layin' down any rules! Aus! ;)
I think 12:59 is right. And that is one of the reasons I don't see Ryan as some poor victum of Reese. He chose to stay and participate in the charade with her.
At some point people need to accept that Reese does not have magic powers. Both Ryan and Jake are adults and have chosen to engage with her for their own reasons.
As far as Spike and Michelle, some of this seems odd. I don't know if I can buy any of it.
The Brooklyn house is Matilda's home. Why would he expect Michelle to move out? He has a problem with her nude scenes? He's in the business.
What rag is this?
LOL - we sometimes paint Reese as a Dragon Lady I think. :)
I think it will happen the way 12:11 explained it.
There's no reason to "out" Reese. That wouldn't be to anyone's advantage. And Reese is not the only famewhore in Hollywood.
She's a good soldier, a professional, and she plays the game as most do.
12:50, if that rag thing is true (I doubt it--it makes no sense--Spike is upset at Michelle's nudes scenes with Ewan?? Come on, they're in the same business), then I predict Michelle will toss him to the curb. It's pretty obvious to me that Matilda is her top priority and that Michelle is a strong-willed person and will do what she sees is best for both her and her daughter.
^^Good! :) Matilda is adorable in her recent pics.
What rag is this?
Newest InStyle Germany. Every Saturday I check out gossip mags while on a shopping spree. :D
I'm starting to see what Reese gets out of a showmance.
Just as a casual pick-up-and-browse-the-gossip-mags in the supermarket person (never buying, I'm too mean) I do actually remember them printing a picture of Reese on her 29th birthday, saying something like "poor Reese spent her birthday alone because of problems in her marriage to Ryan".
Then, totally going from memory, there were the beach photos and it was all "see, they are still together. It's all happy families".
I think it's just hit me how bothered Reese may be by that kind of publicity. That's why she would take the risk of "dating" Jake.
Media cover in the last two years - fauxmance is the ONLY interesting thing about Reese.
Has anyone heard any rumors about Austin and this Hilarie person from Southern Gothic?
I mean romantic/sexual rumors?
Didn't someone on OMG copy a bitchy kind of comment from a board somewhere about Hilarie fooling around with guys, including Austin, other than her husband. Not somebody who had witnessed anything, just a gossipy comment.
A man hanging with, and being friendly with a woman , does not equal f**king except in some people's heads, of course.
"I do actually remember them printing a picture of Reese on her 29th birthday, saying something like "poor Reese spent her birthday alone because of problems in her marriage to Ryan".
Reese's birthday tomorrow alert.
Not InStyle it's InTouch. The first is not a rag. Sorry, mixed the names up.
1:13 stop making excuses. Reese has gone way beyond what most actors do she is The General not merely a good soldier.
Has anyone heard any rumors about Austin and this Hilarie person from Southern Gothic?
Another short Hilarie and Austin video
Hilarie Burton and Austin Nichols Southern Gothic Productions Vlog
Hilarie Burton. Soon-to-be Southern Gothic Beard.
Just because two people of the opposite sex are friends and working together to get money raised for a movie doesn't make Hilarie a beard. And there has been no gossip linking them together other than one comment on JJ or similar place, something that could have been just as easily made up by a babbler.
^^Hilarie was the person who said Austin was "a man of mystery at the weekends", wasn't she? So she isn't spending her weekends with him.
Austin. . whatever!
At least Chris's blog has hot shout-outs to Jake, such as the marrow bone sticking out of the meat pie.
LOL!
Has it never occurred to that idiot that she is jobless because she runs around acting like a wasteful, irresponsible, unreliable, nutjob?
"She [Lindsay Lohan] told the magazine, "It's scary when you realize, 'Oh my God, I'm not working. And I have a house to pay for now.'… and there's been some things I've really wanted to do. Like the one movie I've wanted to do for so long is Alice in Wonderland [directed by Tim Burton]. But, um, that didn't work out… it is what it is."
I wasn't aware that there was an orange-colored gutter crackhead in Alice in Wonderland?
But Blohan is trying to make things happen. Like she's had real-life meetings with Sean Penn and they want to do a movie with Seth Rogen! Blohan explained, "One is Sean Penn -- I spoke to him the other day. We're trying to get Seth Rogen for this project, but Seth won't call us back. So call us back, Seth, if you're reading this!"
Dlisted
One is Sean Penn -- I spoke to him the other day.
Did Jake use the VF party opportunity to discuss some project?
Sean Penn looked WTFever
That was Penn's "fascinated by Jake" look :)

Paul Rudd on why he feels a little gay:
"I always thought I'd be a really good gay guy. I love American Idol. I watch Antiques Roadshow like crazy. Guys like Oscar Wilde, Stephen Fry, Elton John - they're all very bright, with a razor-sharp wit. David Sedaris - who's funnier than David Sedaris? The Saturday Night Live that I hosted was such a gay-heavy show. But it didn't even cross my mind until after. The family that kept kissing each other - I didn't even think of that as being gay.
I remember doing interviews for The Object of My Affection and people would say, "What was it like to kiss a guy?" Like it was such a shocking thing. I said, "How many times does anyone ask, 'You had to shoot somebody. Was that weird?" I love gay guys. I feel pretty gay. I'm certainly not the most macho guy in the room.

Not fair! *stomping*
Hilarie was the person who said Austin was "a man of mystery at the weekends", wasn't she?
"He hides away on the weekends, and is a master of rumors."
Portia De Rossi "Apologizes" For Marrying Ellen (VIDEO)
Portia De Rossi appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last night and talked about being a teenage model and her new show "Better Off Ted." She also brought with her a new PSA she made about gay marriage.
Despite being a gay rights activist, it was an apology to all the Prop 8 supporters who were put out by protesting same-sex marriage. She was wed to Ellen DeGeneres in August of 2008 after California legalized the practice. The ensuing battle of over the proposition to reverse the court's ruling is now before the California Supreme Court.
Sorry! video
If there is something between Hilare and Austin, why wouldn't she say that he's not around on weekends.
Good way to throw people off.
why wouldn't she say that he's not around on weekends
Because there is a lot of people working on the OTH set who could caught her lying if that isn't the truth.
And she would give the crew and her husband ideas if she too hides away on the weekends.
I believe this. And even though Jake's a bit of a famewhore himself, I think he's getting tired of the arranged photo ops now. As I've said, this relationship is more show than ro.
P.S. My point - it doesn't make sense to lie / make up "Austin hides away on the weekends".
Of course, that now begs the question...what DOES Austin do on those weekends he hides away?
Or should I say, who does Austin do.
Duh!
He's reading good books like The Fountainhead.
Austin Nichols - SoGoprah's Book Club Pick
Hilary & Austin. Is that the new line? Oh please!
BTW, who was holding the camera??
He's reading good books like The Fountainhead.
I can't think of anything more rewarding.
Hilare and her husband are no longer together.
If Jake was tired of arranged photo ops, he would have flown to Europe for the recent tour.
He and Reese will be together for a long time. He has no reason to break up with her.
Except for the sex, the lack thereof, that is.
Oh, and the continued downward spiral of his fandom. Hard to believe he wanted to be perceived as a pussy-whipped putz too cowardly to live honestly.
Oh, yes, that's it! Austin and Hilarie! They've been spending time together, and that's just got to mean their going at it like bunnies. Gay men NEVER have girlfriends, never! And this is what we've been waiting for! 'Cause if Austin has a GF, then he certainly can't be with Jake, and if he's not with Jake, then that means, without a shadow of a doubt, that Reeke is real!
*head/desk*
Jake has plenty of sex, I'm sure.
And his management does not care about the on-line fandom. They are not the majority audience. They alone will never make any movie a commercial success.
10:29, Maybe Austin's bi too?
Maybe he and Hilare are just friends; maybe not.
Why should you or anyone else care or be upset by the speculation?
It just fun to watch.
PR should neither ignore nor disregard the power and influence of the internet. Movies have died even before opening because of negative buzz on the internet. Others have achieved success, a cult status because of the internet. A man was elected president of the US because of his team's mastery of the internet.
With print magazines' revenue dwindling, some even closing up shop, the internet is ever growing. When a news story can be instantaneously read by millions with the click of a mouse, when bloggers with no agenda or affiliation can post whatever they chose, when the flow of information is free, the internet is the single most powerful tool PR, and everyone, has.
The most sought after demographic are intenet savvy. They don't read the rags, they read gossip sites. The demographic that believes without question what they read in People and Star and OK and USweekly are a fading group, nor do they have the disposable income to fill theatres on opening weekends.
Look at the drop in volume of comments on sites dedicated to Jake. Look at the tone of comments on Reeke posts. The internet's influence.
If Reeke's PR have hung their hat on the housefraus to carry the showmance, then they've lost already.
I don't believe the casual or average movie goer spends that much time on gossip sites; they have lives to lead. Most people have more important things to worry about than some star's image or personal life.
There is little difference in the intelligence of anyone who will believe everything in a tabloid versus someone who believes everything they read on the internet.
As far as I can tell most people still rely on word of mouth or reviews to decide if they will go see a movie.
You cannot prove a direct correlation between the decrease in internet interest in Jake to
his recent behavior or "romance." People lose interest and move on for all types of reason.
I am sure the Jake's pr has done their fair share of research as well. We will just have to see what the result of the next couple of years bring.
The internet was use to raise money for Obama. But it wasn't responsible for his election.
I think some of your analysis is a little overreaching.
The majority of the country is not that internet savvy or focused.
Don't think the internet has any influence on Reeke's PR?
People online complain that they never see any physical closeness between them, and voila! They are papped holding hands, etc.
People online complain that they never see Reeke with family members, and voila! They are papped with Naomi.
People online complain that they never see Reeke with any friends, and voila! They are papped with RDJ.
People online complain that Reese is a stuckup bitch, and voila! We have funny, funky, down to earth, like you and me Reese.
Every twist and turn, change and addition to the bearding has been influence by what is posted on the internet.
Obama and Co. reached out via the internet. That's where the grassroots campaign started, and that's where it took control. Try looking at his surprise victory in Iowa. And his support base was 20somethings, those that are internet dependant.
Spend some time with the youth of America, and you'll understand that the internet is how they live.
The majority of voters are not young people. I attend college at the moment. I know how much younger people have make themselves dependant on the internet. I continue to be surprised at just how truly ignorant the majority of them are. Too many of them have no sense of history or context. If anything being interenet savvy seems to have made many of them that much easier to manipulate.
The internet is just one part of any marketing strategy, but it is only one part, not the whole.
Of course pr will pay attention to the internet, but if people on the internet had as much influence as you think, Jake would be out and proud.
He isn't. So there are apparently limits to the internet and internet fan influence.
Pr is deluding itself if it thinks the internet doesn't matter. TDK was a huge hit in large part because of all the pictures and clips of Heath on the internet that built up excitement about the movie. People were talking about TDK long before they ever started running televisions ads.
And most of the women who work in my office spend time on internet gossip sites, and that takes in a wide age range. Does the average, middle america movie goer spend time reading gossip? Probably not. But people who are real fans do, and Jake needs those fans if he wants to be a big star.
"You cannot prove a direct correlation between the decrease in internet interest in Jake to
his recent behavior or "romance." People lose interest and move on for all types of reason."
Jake's IHJ average views for pics pre Reeke were 7000+. Now it's 300 at best. How did 6700 people happen to lose interest in Jake almost overnight?
Hell, even pro-Reeke sites like Babble Central and DCF are slim pickings for posts.
Only sites that have maintained their steam during the bleak bearding times are here and OMG, with both actually gaining traffic.
And the internet is not influential again, how?
The internet is important among young adults. I think Jake lost ground because of the lack of fans and also his films in the last few years have been shit.
I guess Jake still has no projects?
Austin is a good friend to the recently-seperated woman: Sophia Bush, Jennifer Esposito, and now Hilaire.
Sometimes you might just want a non-threatening beau after a major break-up?
You cannot prove a direct correlation between the decrease in internet interest in Jake to his recent behavior or "romance."
The correlation is obvious, closing down Jake Watch is a good example.
There is little difference in the intelligence of anyone who will believe everything in a tabloid versus someone who believes everything they read on the internet.
You missed the point.
Tabloids (paper) are 100% under editors and PR control. Gossip published on the Internet can also be commented, analysed, laugh at ...
The internet was use to raise money for Obama. But it wasn't responsible for his election.
80 Out of 100 Adults Now Use the Internet
One of the major statistical and survey providers, The Harris Poll®, has measured how American use their leisure time since 1995. Then, there were less than 18 million adults using the internet for various activities. Use in the home, office, school, library and other locations were measured. Only 13 years later, there are 184 million adults using online services.
link
You cannot prove a direct correlation between the decrease in internet interest in Jake to his recent behavior or "romance."
All happening coincidentally at same the time of Reeke? What else could it possibly be?
Of course pr will pay attention to the internet, but if people on the internet had as much influence as you think, Jake would be out and proud.
80 Out of 100 US Adults Now Use the Internet and are still homophobic as they were without the Internet.
"80 Out of 100 Adults Now Use the Internet"
My 85 year old grandmother and all of her friends use the internet!
Hooray for your grandmother and her friends :)
btw she and most of her friends are not homophobic. A lot of them (inc her) have gay grandchildren. And you know, grandchildren can do no wrong. ;)
^^Another hooray for your grandmother and the gay grandchildren. :)
I don't think you need a dedicated fan base to be a big star. You need hit movies for that and consistent hits at that. That requires a large chuck of the movie going public - the homophobic movie going public.
Fans are fickle. Heath didn't have as many fans as Jake did before TDK. But being the star of that monster of a commercial hit would have shot him to worldwide recognition if he had lived.
Johnny Depp has alot of fans, but they didn't go to see him in Sweeny Todd. You can't depend on fans.
It's always a crap shoot with any film. You just hope people will want to see it, fans or not.
Maybe pr has been trying to kill off part of Jake's fandom because too much of it is based on the gay rumors, not just him as a personality. Maybe they think they need to tear down in order to start to rebuild with a wider and more diverse fan base which will probably begin in earnest with POP.
I don't think they want to get rid of all of the fans who think Jake is gay, but they don't want that to be the basis or the perception of the basis of Jake's appeal.
So do we know for certain that Austin is gay and not bi?
Jake can turn straight men gay in 10 seconds!
The internet probably is important but not as much as some people want to make it.
Just some examples: Heath had a huge success with TDK but Paranssus does not even have a distributor in the US although it has Jude Law, Johnny Depp and C. Farrell. How many sides were dedicated to the "boycott James Bond" or "Daniel C. is not J. Bond". "The Wrestler" or better Mickey Rourkes buzz started when the film won in Venice - no internet buzz before. But much interent buzz for "Snakes on a plane" - it got ridiculous but the film bombed.
The real film freaks I know inform themselves on the internet - but not on on gossip sides. The visit film sides and read the reviews.
The usual film goer preferes films where he/she don´t have much to think, get a good laugh and some action.
I tend to agree with 10:46.
I think people are overplaying the importance of the internet. It's just one source, not always the most reliable source, of information.
It will always be part of any marketing campaign, but just a part.
Yes, Parnassus has Ledger, Depp, Farrell, but the movie can't get a distributor because of Gilliam, his last hit was "12 Monkeys", 14 years ago. Heath did the movie as a favour for Gilliam, Depp etc. did the movie as a favour for Gilliam and Heath.
A major part.
I hope that Parnassus will get a US distributor!
I hope that Parnassus will get a US distributor!
Hopefully.
I think people are overplaying the importance of the internet. It's just one source, not always the most reliable source, of information.
Internet is the most reliable source of information - all major newspapers and magazines are online.
The first time I heard about BBM was at TV show on Venice FF. They interviewed Jake and after that I was interested to see this film and I started to inform myself - on some film sides. I did not search on gossip sides. I was also not interested in Jakes or Heath private lifes.
Same today - when I read about "Lars and the real girl" I did a bit research on the film but I couldn´t care less whether Gosling is straight, bi, gay, is married or has a girl-/boyfriend.
How many of the ONTD are you really reading / looking at? I only read those I am interested in or if I like someone.
