I assumed this was something that was a turn for slash writers. Not?

EVERY kind of sexual activity is a bigger turn on if boys do it.

Dear Ted:
I called in sick today and said I was deficient in my Vitamin T—OK, that was cheesy, but I think I deserve for this question to be printed since I risked my livelihood over it! Have you and Mr. Tile ever done the nasty (prehubby, of course!)? I reread some entries and you two sure seemed a little flirty a couple of years ago. And, who is hotter, Toothy or his BF? Is Mario Lopez his lover?
—Thrasher

Dear Bedroom Boinked:
In order: No. Yes. Neither, I like men, not little beautiful boys who still retain a tad of privileged baby fat. No.
---

Dear Ted:
Recently you said 1 in 10 people in Hollywood were straight. You must be including behind-the-scenes creative folks, agents, producers, etc. In terms of actors/actresses, what is the percentage that is straight?
—Cupcake in Cincinnati

Dear Left Brain:
One in 25. Make that 100.
---

Dear Ted:
OK, so Clay is gay. Big whoop...file that reveal under No Merde. Quick question, though…Has Clay ever been a subject of one of your Blind Vices? If yes, which one? And yes, I know he's not Toothy Tile.
—Jen

Dear Aching for Aiken:
Clay is far too dull for our sexy Vice archives.

Jake, Jake, Jake. Why? Reeke is not good for your image even if you think so, but maybe outside the internet fandom it is good for the image? It probably is. Still, ugh.

Slash Fiction Makes Room for Gays
...
Straight women, however, are not the only writers of slash. Gay men also write and participate in this form of fan fiction, as do a number of bisexual and lesbian women.

As a gay man, I thought I'd try my hand at contributing works of gay romance from a perspective that I knew from intimate experience,” says Tarchannon, a gay male fan fiction writer. “Since gay people seem to be defined in society by their romantic relationships, I think that the world needs to have realistically depicted gay romance and gay relationships become commonplace in the media — unlike in the stereotypical and virtually sexless depictions we've seen on shows like Will & Grace. I think this is essential for gay men and women to become accepted fully by society, and by writing slash, I feel at least some contribution toward that end.”

Tarchannon, a 39-year-old medical researcher with a Ph.D. in genetics, has been reading and writing fan fiction since the earliest days of the internet; he wrote his first fan fiction story in 1991. His partner of 15 years, Curtis, has also taken up the hobby. The type of characters he tends to “slash” are strong, masculine, male characters who defy common gay stereotypes — something that he identifies with, and many gay men do as well.

When asked whether he knew why so many straight women write slash fiction, Tarchannon says: “I cannot claim to know. I imagine the reasons for lesbians or bisexual women are similar to that of gay men — to see [their] favorite characters represented in a meaningful way. Not as a sidekick that suddenly announces that he's gay and is killed off the next issue, or an occasional look that's never acted upon, but a fully realized interaction of major, fully fleshed characters that they rarely see in the media today.”

"The official stance from many production companies and publishing houses is that as long as there is no profit being made from fan fiction, there is no reason to take legal action. Other writers and producers, however, encourage their fan bases to write fan fiction, most notably Joss Whedon (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Angel) and J.K. Rowling (the Harry Potter series). While Rowling isn't a big fan of slash fiction, she does encourage readers to explore their imaginations and says that she hopes it will encourage reading.
...
Some of Hollywood, especially in light of Brokeback Mountain, does seem to be paying attention to audiences' increasingly tolerant attitudes and openness to gay content. However, does Hollywood get the picture that gay people are just that — people? Landon remarks: “ Hollywood right now is writing a lot of gay characters with just that focus. It is the beginning and end of who they are as people. The fact the person I want to sleep next to at night has boy parts rather than girl is not the whole of who I am; it's not the whole of who my gay friends are either.

“I think if Hollywood paid attention to its fan base, it would get that. Slash as a whole is writing characters differently . … The approach they take is [that] orientation is a part of the character, and not the total of the character.”

Anonymous said...

I think this is essential for gay men and women to become accepted fully by society, and by writing slash, I feel at least some contribution toward that end.

I totally agree with this statement; I hope that by embracing male/male sexuality in all it's beauty, slash fiction, in a small way, will help bring equality to the way all relationships are thought of, and how all love is expressed. And penetration is penetration, we all have analogous organs and parts, and it's all good. Yum! ;)

Anonymous said...

While I'm happy to see instances where there are gay and bi men, and lesbian and bi women writing slash, it still doesn't change the fact that the overwhelming majority of slash fiction is read and written by het women, at least at this moment in time. I'd be happy to see it more fully accepted by other groups. Why does everyone want to erase that, and claim ownership? I don't understand why there's such a separatist attitude here at times. I should think it would be good news that all people seem to like slash.

The type of characters he tends to “slash” are strong, masculine, male characters who defy common gay stereotypes — something that he identifies with, and many gay men do as well.

The original intent of slash was erotic - simply the turn-on of two beautiful men making love to each other. Mostly written and read by straight women, their fantasies about characters, or the real actors who played the characters. There's no mention of this in the article from After Elton that you quoted, 5:24, and I'm willing to bet that if I go back and read it, I'll find a mention of it. Why did you leave it out? You can't prove a point by only quoting what you want to.

I also like my slash with a story to it, not just the sex, although that's a huge part of the fandom. Now, there's other kinds of slash, femme slash, etc. Whether slash leads to meaningful representations and societal change or not, I don't know, but I hope so. At least screenwriters and movie makers can take a cue about what kind of relationships people want to see, and how real people have experienced them. I know I always write a bit of myself into my male characters, and I have, in my very naive, couldn't-possibly-know-Jack perception that we all feel things in similar ways, made my character much as the writer describes above: I try to have them defy stereotypes and have real lives.

Anonymous said...

Why did you leave it out? You can't prove a point by only quoting what you want to.

I believe people who read or know about slash are aware of that.

Anonymous said...

You don't know that for sure. Next time, include the link for the entire article so that people can see both sides and can make up their own minds?

Anonymous said...

"I should think it would be good news that all people seem to like slash."

With all due respect, 5:52, and I mean this, that is, I mean to be respectful: it seems to me that the above comment is also "separatist" -

Ive been called 'phobic for not being interested in reading or writing slash! are you saying it would be good news if everyone were on the same page?

It's an acquired taste, and often curious to those of us who would rather read stories of characters who are originally conceived, not based on beloved characters from screen, story, sports figures, and so forth.

It's been my own feeling that slash is often a misrepresentation of gay life and culture.

I admit I may be way wrong, since Ive read very little of this genre.

I think, as John Barrowman said, and that gay friends have suggested: there is a lot less romance and sentimentality in the male mode, homo or hetero, than women would like to believe.

Anonymous said...

Ive been called 'phobic for not being interested in reading or writing slash!

No one said / suggested anything like that.

Anonymous said...

No, I don't think that if slash isn't your cup of tea, it certainly doesn't make you phobic, it just means it's not for you. You didn't explain how you found the comment separatist. I don't see how using inclusive terms like "all", strictly speaking about those, both gay and straight, bringing people together who do like slash, is separatist. If people don't, that's their prerogative, it means nothing othe than they don't like it. Trying to exclude a group of people is what's separatist. I also don't see what you can comment about if your knowledge of slash is limited. Everyone's experience is different, you can't generalize. John Barrowman's experience and other friends may have different experiences, but we get into trouble when we start to categorize people. His opinion carries no more weight than my gay friends, or gay male readers who do like romance, IMO.

Anonymous said...

"No one said / suggested anything like that"

Yes this has been said: "I dont understand why anyone who doesnt enjoy slash is on this site. . . "

Anonymous said...

And some of my male boyfiends have surprised me with how sentimental and romantic they can be, and it's not strictly because I want it or it got me into bed, because I love sex and I'm easy. Men are very much capable of romantic and sentimental feelings, at least from my het experience.

Anonymous said...

sorry did I say fiends? Wishful thinking, Freudian slip. I mean boy friends. ;)

I don't recall reading that quote, and if someone did post that, perhaps they either weren't clear or are dead wrong, IMO. :)

Anonymous said...

"I also don't see what you can comment about if your knowledge of slash is limited."

My knowledge of various genres is limitd and yet I can conclude fairly quickly when it's not my thing. I dont think you've got a point, here.

Anonymous said...

Well, that, of course. I don't think you have to like it either. Someone asked about the slash sensibility last night, so at least from what I've been posting, I'm just approaching it from those who like it. They didn't ask about the those-who-don't-like slash sensibility.

Anonymous said...

Yes this has been said: "I dont understand why anyone who doesnt enjoy slash is on this site. . . "

Please quote that post, I couldn't find it.

Anonymous said...

Maybe some slash misrepresents gay relationships and gay life, in the same way that romance novels misrepresent het relationships and life. Maybe a woman likes romance instead a ho-hum, quick slap-and-tickle after Letterman. Slash may, in some cases, be overly romanticized and idealized, and that may not be so wrong, if it's just fantasy, and if it isn't the only representation out there. The writer quoted in the AfterElton article seems to be striving for a more real representation. There's all kinds of stories out there, from sentimental to raw, fantasy and accounts from real life, and everything in between.

I haven't let him read it, mainly because it isn't very good. LOL!

Does it enhance sex? Maybe, because I'm comfortable enjoying fantasies, which is all that some slash is, really. I may or may not mention if we are at the movies, how homoerotic and hot two guys are, and did he notice the homoerotic element, and he'll just kinda roll his eyes. ;)

As an avid slash addict, here's my two cents. No I don't watch gay porn, but I have watched more gay films since I became a slash fan. I was never that keen on het pornos either. Too boring. I do like to see occasional porn photos or better yet original drawings of men engaged in sex. Some slash writers use these to illustrate their work. One wrote in a graphic novel format. Nice male bodies with an aroused penis are great to add a bit of variety, but what I like best is using my own imagination and the authors vision to see the characters in my mind's eye.

I read slash every day. It literally restored my waning libido, and I use it to keep my sexual interest at it's peak.

I am a college educated, married straight woman. I am intelligent enough to be able grasp that these works and characters are indeed fictional, even when they are named Jake, Heath or Austin. I prefer BBM and Jake/Heath RPS slash, but read Queer as Folk and Batman Joker stuff once in a while. Actually, when QAF was first on TV, I was an avid fan. Brian Kinney was hot.

HARRY POTTER AND THE SEXY LETTERS

WE had long since banished any notions of Daniel Radcliffe being just an innocent little wizard behind those Harry Potter spectacles, but he still manages to shock us... A tall order for a teenager who has already slapped out his schlong on the West End and Broadway, but one he’s achieved nicely via a frank admission.

Daniel, 19, you see, sends sexy letters to his co-star Lorenzo Pisoni, 31.

He said of the Italian stallion (see what we did there?): “We’re getting on very well indeed. “I’ve written some really, really deeply sexual things on some of the cards I’ve given him for opening night.” Before adding nervously: “But just to wind him up, you know.”

But we’re not convinced as Daniel then added: “He’s great. He’s a truly remarkable man. You know, if I was gay or a female I’d, well, just want to marry him. “He’s gorgeous, and he’s a really cool bloke as well. He’s great.”

Dodging gay rumors

A lot of people have asked Clay if he was gay over the last five years. I think it's fair to say we can expect a few more pieces, like this one from Newsweek's Ramin Setoodeh:

But why should Aiken deserve to be praised for coming out at the age of 29? You could say that a person's sexuality is nobody's business. But unlike other gay celebrities who have come out recently, like Neil Patrick Harris or Lance Bass, Aiken denied that he was gay long beyond the point of ridiculousness, and he did it in a way that bordered on homophobic. When the Advocate asked him if he was gay during an "American Idol" press conference, he simply turned the other way, as if he never heard the question. In 2006, a sexually suggestive video of Aiken leaked from a gay dating Web site, but that same year, he gave a big interview to People where he implied he was straight. He even offered a cover-up for the video: it wasn't him, it was just somebody who looked exactly like him.

Every entertainment reporter I know (myself included) has had a moment like this with some closeted star, unless they are too blind themselves to see the obvious. Sometimes it's simply a badly executed dodge to a softball question about current romances, or occasionally the interviews are even more awkward, a half-admission followed by begging, pleading or threats to retroactively go off the record. In the unlikely event the star in question actually does come out (or is outed), I totally understand the impulse to be equally annoyed and relieved the game is up. Reporters are people, too, and if there's anything we dislike most in the world it's being looked in the eye and lied to.

YOU'RE going to be seeing a lot of Anne Hathaway in coming weeks, but her ex-boyfriend - Italian playboy/scam artist Raffaello Follieri - won't. Hathaway will host "Saturday Night Live" this week and has spent the past two days rehearsing. She has a movie to promote, "Rachel Getting Married," and hopes to generate some Oscar buzz. But Follieri faces sentencing Friday for up to 65 years in federal prison for fraud and money laundering. And his jailhouse curfew likely won't let him stay up after 11 p.m.

Palin: "Being Gay A Choice, But I Don't Judge."

The hits just keep coming from Sarah Palin!

Sitting down against with Katie Couris this week, the potential vice-president offers her decidedly asinine views on the gays, whom she says she won't judge for their "decision." And, yes, she trots out an anonymous gay friend:

As for homosexuality - I'm not going to judge Americans and the decisions that they make in their adult, personal relationships. I have - um - one of my absolute best friends for the last thirty years who happens to be gay - and I love her dearly. She is not my gay friend. She is one of my best friends, who happens to have made a choice that isn't a choice that I have made.

We can only imagine what kind of lesbian would subject herself to someone like Sarah Palin. Probably some submissive chick who likes the abuse. Or perhaps this "friend" simply doesn't exist. Show yourself, lesbian!

As for the no judging thing - one word: bullshit.

Leonardo DiCaprio: "I Want to Get Married and Have Children"

In the new issue of Parade, Leonardo DiCaprio opens up about wanting to wed and live a normal life.

"What I definitely feel a need for is to make my life about more than just my career. Just last night I was thinking to myself how little of my life has been lived normally and not spent on some far-off movie location," the actor, 33, says. "I want to get married and have children. In saying that, I realize I am contradicting everything I've said before. I absolutely believe in marriage."

DiCaprio -- who appears to be back on with model Bar Refaeli -- adds, "I hope I never get cynical. I think you need youthful energy, excitement, and optimism in life.

"There is a lot I want to do, and the more cynical you become, the more you sit on your butt and do nothing," he says. "The one thing that I would love is to never become cynical about the things I think are really important, like family, like the environment." Smiling, he adds, "What I want is to be known as someone who stood for something."

Of becoming an actor, he says, "my parents never tried to steer me in any direction. I wanted to be an actor, but I never thought it was a real possibility, ever. I thought I’d be a marine biologist, because nature and evolution fascinated me.

"We're all after love, aren't we?" he says. "Love is what people are hungry for. That's absolutely why I became an actor."

The actor says he proud of his break-through role in the 1996 epic Titanic. "I'm grateful for the possibilities it's given me," he says. "If it hadn't been for that movie, I wouldn't have been able to take control of my career." During that time, he says, "I started to think about things that meant more to the world than this glorified, superficial media exposure of me, something I never felt was justified."

The Video Matches The Song

Jack White and Alicia Keys' video for the new Bond theme called "Another Way To Die" is just as shitty as the song. I like Jack and Alicia separately, but put them together and all you get is ear and eye barf. This mess makes me long for Shirley Bassey. Shit, it makes me even miss Sheryl Crow's bond song. No, I didn't mean that.

Jack and Alicia could have covered up the fact that their song sucks with a hot video, but they failed at that shit as well. The beginning part looks like they're inside of an Etch-A-Sketch.

Tom Cruise Minimized In New "Valkyrie" Trailer

Tom Cruise's appearance has been minimized in the "Valkyrie" trailer, FoxNews reports. Scroll down to see the new one and the old side by side and see if you agree. The trailer now starts with Cruise looking like Lawrence of Arabia in the desert right before a big explosion knocks him out.

I guess this from the big war scene that was filmed this summer in California. Historically incorrect, it shows why Cruise's character, Col. Claus Von Stauffenberg, spends the rest of the film wearing an eye patch and fumbling with a lame arm.

Now prominent in the "Valkyrie" promotion are this scene, and a sequence showing the bomb that's supposed to kill Hitler. Of course, what the trailer doesn't tell you is that the plot failed when the bomb explosion was blocked by a table. Hitler had his would be assassins executed the next day.

Crazy Canadian Politico Calls For Gay Execution

And we thought Sarah Palin was nuts?

Police are investigating whether an independent federal candidate committed a hate crime by telling high school students homosexuals should be executed. David Popescu was invited to participate in a federal candidates' discussion at Sudbury Secondary School on Tuesday. He made the comment after a student asked his opinion of gay marriage.

During a telephone interview later in the day, Popescu reasserted his view.

"A young man asked me what I think of homosexual marriages and I said I think homosexuals should be executed," he said. "My whole reason for running is the Bible and the Bible couldn't be more clear on that point."

Candidates and teachers looked on in silence as students called for him to be "cut off."

If Popescu had any odds of getting elected, he doesn't anymore…

‘Prince of Persia’ Creator Says Film Will Give ‘Pirates’ Treatment To Arabian Nights Genre

Take “Pirates of the Caribbean.” You have this franchise that goes out, makes $3 billion in theaters, another couple billion in DVD and ancillary merchandise, and wouldn’t you know it? Suddenly, everybody wants to compare their new film to the series that launched a thousand Orlando Bloom fan pages. And in one case, they’d actually be right.

“Prince of Persia” isn’t just going to be like “Pirates” in terms of scope and tone, the newest Disney/Bruckheimer tag-team is actually going to “do for Arabian Nights movies what ‘Pirates’ did for pirate movies,” screenwriter and series creator Jordon Mechner told MTV News. Slated for 2010, the film will star Jake Gyllenhaal as the iconic video game character character.

“This is how we pitched it to Disney and Bruckheimer – as an old-fashioned swashbuckling action-adventure in a tradition going all the way back to the Doug Fairbanks movies. The modern equivalent being ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ an example of an old movie made new again, doing a fresh take on it for a modern audience,” Mechner said. “Tonally, I’d say it’s basically ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ with maybe a half-step towards ‘Gladiator.’”

That half-step towards “Gladiator” might fall into what I’ve begun calling the “Batman Begins” approach to tentpoles – taking seemingly impossible things and contextualizing them within a real world.

That sounds about right to Mechner, who insisted that the characters, props, and tools of “Persia” will all strive to strike something of a balance between fantasy and reality.

“If you take the first ‘Sands of Time’ game, that was set in basically the real world, but with this mystical element that intrudes into it,” Mechner said of the balance. “It feels like it’s grounded in a very real world with historical roots, but then it’s got this fantasy element as well. It’s not completely over the top.”

Of course, that said, it’s still a Bruckheimer production.

“There’ll certainly be a lot of stunts, a lot of special effects. I mean it’s Jerry Bruckheimer!” Mechner insisted. “They’re shooting in the deserts of Morocco. The scope of this is going to be massive. It’s really spectacular.”

Mechner, of course, was involved in the creation of the first ever “Prince of Persia” video game in 1989, and with the highly rated “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time” in 2003, the game that rebooted the franchise and served as a story template for the upcoming film (in addition to the new graphic novel, click here to read about that). But even given his background with the video game world – maybe even because of it – Mechner insists that “Persia” will not be your typical video game movie.

“Well the movie’s packed with action, so there’ll be swords and horses and all the things that wouldn’t be ‘Prince of Persia’ without. But because it’s a movie, it’s about the characters and character relationships. There’s no fighting for fighting’s sake. In a game, you have a lot of fighting because you’re doing it and it’s fun,” he said. “But in a movie, fighting’s a part of the story but it’s not a movie about swordfighting.”

Brothers Bumped into 2009

Jim Sheridan's Brothers, which I've been very much looking forward to, being a fan of Jim and Susanne Bier's original 2004 film, is being bumped into '09 -- possibly a late summer release, or possibly one in the fall. MGM had planned it to open it on 12.4.08, but now they'll be taking it to next May's Cannes Film Festival. Draw whatever conclusions you want, but the implication is that it's not a quality issue as much as a concern that it might suffer against the heavy year-end competition.

Brothers Bumped

Jim Sheridan's Brothers, which I've been very much looking forward to, being a fan of Jim and Susanne Bier's original 2004 film, is being bumped into '09 -- possibly a late summer release, or possibly one in the fall. MGM had planned it to open it on 12.4.08, but now they'll be taking it to next May's Cannes Film Festival. Draw whatever conclusions you want, but the implication is that it's not a quality issue as much as a concern that it might suffer against the heavy year-end competition.

This despite test-screening responses that seemed (emphasis on the "s" word) to indicate possible Oscar contention. Particular praise has gone to the performances of costars Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman.

The MGM team wasn't in the building from 9:15 to 10:45 am (even the receptionists didn't answer) so I called Brothers producer Mike DeLuca, who confirmed the news. The decision to hold was basically due to the "crazy full fall for serious movies" this year, he says. "We love Brothers and want to blitz in Cannes, but it's just too crowded this year for a wide fall release and an Oscar campaign."

A key factor in the decision, he says, is that costar Jake Gyllenhaal is unavailable for year-end p.r. due to filming on Prince of Persia and "we can't promote this movie without Jake. So Cannes makes most sense. I'm super proud of the movie and a major unveiling on the Cote d'Azur with all cast present is too good to pass up."

MGM source said that a mid to late summer release could conceivably happen due to next summer looking relatively weak,

As noted three or four times before on HE, Brothers is a remake of Susanne Bier's 2004 Danish-language original about a younger "bad" brother (Gyllenhaal in Sheridan's version) stepping into the familial shoes of his older "good" brother (Maguire) after the latter disappears during an enemy skirmish in Afghanistan.

Natalie Portman plays the wife-mother whose loyalties shift, or at least adapt to new realities. Sam Shepard plays the gruff and disapproving pater familias, the father of Gyllenhaal and Maguire. David Benioff (The Kite Runner, The 25th Hour) adapted the screenplay.

In a relatively recent interview with DGA magazine's F.X. Feeney, Sheridan (or was it Feeney?) alluded to Brothers as a kind of Cain and Abel story.

Sheridan "had been very moved by that film when he first saw it, intrigued by the themes of intense love and lethal jealousy between two polar opposite brothers -- one a career military man, the other a lifelong screw-up who only comes into his own by caring for his brother's family after his super-achieving sibling goes missing in Afghanistan and is declared dead.

"Sheridan realized transposing a Danish drama for an American audience could be risky. 'You can't just microwave something,' he says emphatically. 'You can't just reheat it.'

"The challenge is to find what works best in the story about Americans, for Americans. 'There are rules that apply to American cinema that don't apply to other forms of cinema,' he explains. 'In a Danish film, people can get drunk with impunity. They can leave their kids at home unattended while they go pick up their brother in the bar. In an American movie, you're not allowed. Americans are different and the rules are different. So all the time I'm consciously working within a framework of American storytelling.'"

With this news we'll be seeing non-stop Reeking until at least the summer of 2009. There's nothing else to keep media-whore Jake in the limelight.

Anonymous said...

Maybe. Maybe not.

Will anyone know who Jake is by the time his next movie comes out? He seems to be having some bad luck ever since he hooked up with Reese. The few fans that were left seem to be fading out more and more every day.

sounds like good news to me! Jake Natalie and Tobey in Cannes, Jake can get rid of that smelly mop and rest up a bit, preferably in the Maldives with the hottie OF HIS CHOICE. . .

Another film pushed up? Like Nailed (god knows when it will be relased in 2009), and PoP (pushed to 2010), the release of Brothers is now getting pushed back. And the implication that Brothers can't be promoted unless Jake is around full-time is an absolute insult to Macguire and Portman, two superb actors who are not only box-office performers - unlike Jake of late - but also actors with a full slate of films coming up - again unlike JG.

Jake's pr firm is doing whatever it can to avoid stomping on Witherspoon's promo efforts for dogmeat 'Four Christmases'. And it is also doing whatever it can to keep Jake out of the public eye for as long as possible.

Jake is developing a bad rep. Every project he's touched since Rome has gone radioactive.

You guys are dumb as dirt. The film is being dumped--and so what it may air at the Cannes Film Festival--that means nothing. Cannes has become a joke. The festivals that have real importance now are Venice and Toronto. I have a good friend whose film premiered in Cannes this past May and it ended up not picking up a distributor--(at least with a decent enough bid) though there are two A-list actors (one who won an Oscar and the other nominated several times) toplining it. Instead now the producers are dumping this movie in January 2009--not even opening it for a week in December for Oscar consideration.

And trust me, the film is good and the two leads are FAR better known than Natalie, Tobey and Jake and MUCH better skilled.

(And no, I won't tell you the film because this is insider info and I greatly admire and respect the person I know who's attached to the film).

Why? Is Jake that desperate not to answer questions about Heath?? Seriously, I believe you but what is wrong? Isn't his film slated to end finish shooting by December? I find it hard to believe Disney wouldn't let him out for a week or two to do promo. That should be in Jake's contract.

Anonymous said...

Well, this fall/winter is croweded. Maybe it's really better to wait and present it at the festival.

Anonymous said...

Why? Is Jake that desperate not to answer questions about Heath??

BS. The movie has more chances for attention when it premieres in Cannes. With all the great films now coming out Brothers may be overlooked.
Heath's Imaginarium is premiering in Cannes too, so he'll probably answer the inevitable Heath questions there.

who is interested in asking Jake 'Heath' questions besides certain fans?

who is interested in asking Jake 'Heath' questions besides certain fans?

C'mon are you serious? Jake was Heath's co-star in BBM. Many non BBM fans are gonna ask him about Heath.
But the delay has nothing to do with either Heath or Reese Witherspoon. They simply think it probably hasn't a big chance to be noticed among all the great films that came or are gonna come out. Probably they'll get more attention in Cannes.

Reporters still ask Brokeback questions - how could they not be interested in asking Heath questions?

I'm not looking forward to Cannes. I fear Jake's and Heath's movies won't get a good reception.

Anonymous said...

5:20, I was the one who posted that info on 4:45. I'm not a studio or film insider per se but my friend who's VERY attached to this film I was talking about that debuted last May at Cannes certainly is. (I can't tell you what his role is behind the scenes but he's a biggie). It's just heartbreaking how BADLY the producers are handling the distribution and promotion of this film. There's no excuse for it--the film was well received at Cannes and it has TWO top-tier stars in it! But because the story is "small,"--meaning there are no car crashes, explosions or flashy gimmicks, it's being relegated to the trash heap of releases. It seems "Brothers" is getting the same treatment despite the studio's obviously phony spiel.

As for celebrity gossip...actually this person who is very attached to the film didn't really have a lot of gossip about this film's two stars (he was too pissed off at the mishandling of the film to offer "dirt"--but I can ask him). I do have one funny thing he told me (not about this movie). He was attached to a film in which Christopher Walken was slated to star in. When Walken got to the set first day, he was dead drunk, didn't know any of his lines and got promptly fired. But his PR people covered it up and said it was a "scheduling conflict" when in reality it was nothing of the kind. He was shit-faced and unprepared.

Poor Christopher.

Remember "Christopher Walken announces his intention to run for President of the United States!" campaign?

First Look: Gilliam's Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Featurette

An odd sort of featurette designed to introduce us to the whimsical and wonderful world of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus has just appeared online courtesy of Quick Stop. As I'm sure everyone no doubt knows, this is actually Heath Ledger's very last film, the one that he was in the middle of shooting when he tragically passed away earlier this year. All of that aside, this featurette looks absolutely fantastic, which is rare for me to say considering I hated (with a fiery passion) Terry Gilliam's last film, Tideland. I'm not going to say anything else because I think it's best if you just watch this without any early knowledge of what to expect. It's full of such magic and fantasy that I'm certain you won't be let down…

We announced back in January that Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell would each be acting in the film to fill in for Ledger. Although there really isn't any actual footage in this video anyway, it's an exciting intro to the world of Doctor Parnassus. Does this clip spark your imagination or what?!

"He was bigger than life to me," Tom writes. "But he always had a way of putting us all at ease"

The two met when Tom auditioned for a part in a movie Paul was directing. Tom didn't get the part, but Paul remembered him and two years later they teamed up in 'The Color Of Money.'

It launched a friendship that would last a quarter of a century. Tom says "he called me cruiser or sometimes kid. We would grab time to hang out whenever we could find it." Tom closes by saying "his life will forever inspire me. The world has lost an icon; I have lost an idol."

Luke Ledger may be Heath's cousin - not at Neighbours' audition

BEING Heath Ledger's cousin is sure to open doors in the acting world but Luke Ledger is doing anything he can to avoid being associated with his famous relative. Confidential can reveal the 16-year-old Perth boy has decided to follow the late actor into the entertainment industry.

He has also unwittingly become embroiled within the seemingly endless controversy and blanket media coverage that has befallen the Ledger tribe since the death of the Dark Knight actor in January. These "bad experiences" with the press have given the year 11 student something in common with his late cousin - who often expressed a dislike for the media - while fuelling a strong determination to fulfill his dream of becoming an actor "on his own".

Despite a fear of journalists, Luke Ledger reluctantly spoke to Confidential yesterday. "Heath had always been an inspiration but I'm more so self-inspired," was the only mention the young actor made of his now-legendary cousin.

"I want to be an actor because I want to be an actor. "I don't want to be a celebrity - I just want to act."

A source close to the family said Luke's apprehension towards showbiz was a result of watching "how tormented Heath became when the limelight got brighter".

In a world where famous blood relatives can be your golden ticket, the creative kid's noble choice to shy away from the Heath Ledger legacy could have potentially already cost him a big break. He recently entered into Dolly magazine's nationwide search for a new Neighbours star - which brought Sam Clark onto the soap last year.

But he denied a relationship to Ledger before the auditioning panel, despite his unique surname and remarkably similar features.

Gossip Girl Guys Gang up to Overcome Gay 'Indictments'

Details takes on the Gossip Girl guys this month, and the chatter is all pretty gay.

Says Chace Crawford of the "indictments" against him: "Model turned actor, dime a dozen, eye candy, doesn't know what he's doing ... and Perez Hilton says I have 'gayface.' So on top of everything else, I have to overcome gayface."

Says Badgley of Crawford: "It's like he was genetically bred to be a teen star."

Of his high school years, Crawford says: "I'm pretty sure I wasn't having sex with any cougars."

Details reports: "Most of the cast members live in adjacent downtown neighborhoods, and Chace and Ed share an apartment in Chelsea. This has fueled Internet speculation that they are secret lovers, although that seems to be a figment of the collective gaymagination. If you were a closeted TV star, after all, you'd probably come up with a better cover than living with your boyfriend in Manhattan's Pinkberriest zip code. 'No, sorry, I've got nothing to educate you about,' says Chace, laughing. 'What does bromance even mean?' (Ed has denied rumors too, saying they're just friends.) Chace's mom helped him find the apartment, and he recruited Ed as a roommate. 'I thought, Let's pool our money and get something good,' Chace says. 'I didn't even know if the show was going to last.'"

On Penn Badgley: "For him, acting is work—it's how you make sure you can pay for your own car and make your rent. And if you need to shave your chest hair because teenage girls find chest hair on a good guy sexually threatening, you get out the razor. It's a living."

Ed Westwick responds: "'Penn said he has to shave his chest hair because it's threatening?' Ed leans back, a trio of metal chains nestling in his own not inconsiderable pelt. The 21-year-old Brit stretches, grins, narrows his eyes—a kind of silent purr. 'Reeeaallly ... Well, I think Penn's chest hair may be more like a scaahf. It actually comes out of his neck! So maybe that's why he has to cut it. Threatening? I don't know what threatening hair would look like. We'd have to get Penn here to see!'"

You get the idea.

Newly wed lesbian funny lady Ellen DeGeneres appeared on The Tonight Show on Tuesday and took some time to urge voters to vote against Proposition 8, the ballot measure aiming to overturn California's gay marriage. Taking aim at those people raising millions to fight same-sex love, Ellen remarks:

I look at the people who are losing their homes and they're foreclosing – and people in Texas who have lost homes… There are so many people that need money right now – and if you’re raising millions of dollars – give it to those people, please because you don’t need to promote hate.

Host Jay Leno agrees that it's an unnecessary battle and points out that the sky in Massachusetts hasn't fallen since they passed gay marriage. It's so true.

LINDSAY Lohan looks back to glowing form as she confesses how girlfriend Samantha Ronson makes her happier than ever. The actress, who is house-hunting with the DJ, tells Marie Claire how she and Ronson have copied one another’s tattoos to seal their love.

“Samantha has a bunch of stars, so I got [one on my hand],” she reveals. “People can think what they want. I’m really happy... She’s a great person.”

And she confirms: “At some point, I want to adopt a kid – a child in need or a newborn from another country.”

As much as I hate to admit, but I'm thinking that Jake may be in NYC this weekend because the Chin is supposed to be in NYC for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk. Jake's been out of the public eye for several months and the Chin has a movie coming out that screams BOMB. I still think Jake is partnered with his "good friend" Chris. I could even believe the baby tile thing, considering that they could live together and raise the kid together without paps or other spys realising it. Guess Ted would not reveal that Jakes partner actually is not famous and not someone in the public eye, because it would not be BBM-like enough for Jakes unique fanbase or maybe even to help him cover his lover up. Reese knows Chris, they have been photographed at Jake and Chris appartment in NY and later together, can´t remember when. This would back up Teds claims that Reese is helping a friend and his partner out.
Jake took Chris to the Oscars, to Toronto, probably even to Rome, without anyone questioning what his "good friend" was doing there. BTW Chris looked smoking hot in his tux. The Toothy and his Gray Goose story actually gives them space, because noone would pay attention to Chris living with Jake in England, f.e.

James Franco's own private Idaho

You can read our interview with James Franco -- actually a conversation between the actor and the screenwriter of Milk, Dustin Lance Black -- at Out.com. And, sure, it's got great headline-making material about his make-outs with Sean Penn and his nude pool party scene in the biopic.

But don't miss the more serious stuff about art, movie-making and his hectic back-to-school schedule (Franco is currently pursuing two MFAs, one in writing and one in film). And it was one of the queerest films ever that made him want to act in the first place, he says:

Lance Black: I don't know if it was you or Gus who told me that My Own Private Idaho originally inspired you to act?
James Franco: I probably told you. If Gus told you that, I'd be really touched that he would know.
Lance: I guess the deeper question is, What made you want to do Milk and work with Gus?
James: Well, let me talk about Idaho first, because -- I would watch that movie a lot, even before I was acting. For some reason that struck a chord with me. I know it's an incredibly important film for queer cinema, but I wasn't a young teenager waiting to come out. I don't know what it was... I know a lot of straight guys who loved that movie and had the same attachment to it that I did... I guess just the emotions it touches on made me want to watch it over and over.

We know the feeling. So go read the full interview (a couple more choice quotes still to come on Popnography).

And here's the campfire scene from the 1991 movie, which still stands on its own as one of the most moving moments ever caught on film. Keanu Reeves (this is why we had such high hopes for him), River Phoenix and a lonely, late-night confession: "I really want to kiss you, man." For the first time or the hundredth:

I know it's an incredibly important film for queer cinema, but I wasn't a young teenager waiting to come out.

I loved MOPI. River and Keanu had amazing chemistry on and off screen. There are rumors River was in love with Keanu. In a recent interview Keanu confessed he still wasn't over River's death. :(

There are rumors River was in love with Keanu.

Gus Van Sant interview - Gus talks about the campfire scene in My Own Private Idaho:

...
We’re almost out of time. Tell us a River Phoenix story that would be good for BUTT. I was thinking of , and how you didn’t really need to make Brokeback Mountain because you already did it.

Should I talk about how that scene was done?

Yeah.

Um, I’d seen River in Stand By Me, and you know he had that great moment where he was talking about the teacher and he was crying about something unjust that had happened at school. And it kind of put him on the map. So when it came time to shoot the campfire scene in the desert, which was kind of a sex scene, or at least leading up to the possibility of sex, he wanted to put it off, because he hadn’t got to that point yet emotionally with the character.

He wanted to wait. So I said okay, even though it was sort of an unusual request. But sometimes I would baby the actors, rather than say, “No, you’ve got to buck up and do the scene.” But when he finally did it, even the crewmembers said, “That was a great scene.” And when the crewmembers say that, you know the actor got it right. The day before we shot that scene he came up to me and he had these napkins that were kind of pasted together with writing on them, and it was a complete mess, I couldn’t read it. And he said they were ideas he had for the campfire scene, and he was showing them to me, and I was horrified, because he couldn’t be rewriting Keanu Reeves’ lines. But he said Keanu was totally into it. So I said he didn’t have to show me, we’d just shoot it and if it wasn’t working we’d go back to the original scene, which was half as long.

So the scene ended up slightly different. In the original script he doesn’t tell Scott that he loves him, but he does ask him if he fools around with guys, and Scott says, “Well I only sleep with guys for money.” And River says, “Yeah but we’re out in the desert and it’s boring.”

When I wrote the script he wasn’t a gay character. He was a hustler character, but it wasn’t really about love. But River decided to make the character gay and proclaim his love for Scott.

Do you think River ever had a gay experience?

Yeah, he had. Bobby Bukowski, the director of photography, said that he had sex with him before and after My Own Private Idaho. I think it said that in Rolling Stone.

And Bobby is completely gay, right. Wow, that’s hot. Because Bobby’s really cute too. I think River – and also someone like Kurt Cobain – they both had this longing to be gay because they both identified with, I don’t know, the outsiderness of it.

Definitely. Well certainly Kurt. More so. Because River was coming into it really as a character, but he didn’t have strong or even politically correct opinions about gay life.
...

Focus Studio Chief Eager For Us To Drink In Sean Penn As ‘Milk’

Long before Sarah Palin was talking crazy or banks were going out of business faster than “We Sell it on eBay” stores, a truly bizarre political scandal erupted in 1970’s San Francisco, changing politics forever. We’ve already written extensively about the December release “Milk,” and when we recently caught up with super-producer/Focus Features Co-President James Schamus, he promised that our enthusiasm over the Sean Penn biopic was justified.

He’s just channeling him; it’s crazy. He is Harvey Milk,” Schamus said of the Oscar-winner’s performance as America’s first openly-gay politician. “Go online and look at Harvey Milk and look at the trailer, and it’s like we hired Harvey Milk.”

Co-starring Josh Brolin, Emile Hirsch and James Franco (who reportedly shares a kissing scene with Penn), the film tells the true tale of a larger-than-life man who ran for office seeking tolerance and equality, then became a martyr for the gay movement after being shot down by a Twinkie-loving madman.

Gus is always going to push the limits of film language,” Schamus said of the film’s director, Oscar nominee Gus Van Sant. “Usually he’s trying to bring into the culture, in particular, young people that have been left outside. His heart and his voice go to people who are not allowed to speak. I said to him, ‘People believe there are two Gus Van Sants. There’s the ‘Good Will Hunting’ Gus Van Sant and then there’s ‘Elephant’ Gus Van Sant’.”

“But to me there’s only one,” Schamus explained. “This movie is the product of one creative vision. The film will live up to [the hype]. It’s the movie he was born to make. It is proof-positive that those two people are the same guy. He is not shy in this movie in pushing the voices that are always shoved outside. This is about young people, and Harvey was surrounded by young people.”

The film hits theaters December 5th, and will undoubtedly be one of the most talked-about films of this awards season. “[Penn’s mimicry of Milk] is one piece of a very large puzzle,” Schamus added. “To me, what was amazing was the spiritual connectivity he had, not just with the character but with the cast. There’s a generosity to his acting in it.”

Daniel Craig says no same-sex shagging for James Bond

Bad news Bond fans: in an interview posted today on the Guardian film blog, Daniel Craig took some readers' questions about the upcoming Bond movie Quantum of Solace including this one:

Question: Over the years, we've seen Bond shag many beautiful birds along the way. Do you think Bond will ever shag a bloke? (from Paul1970)

Daniel Craig: This is that question that keeps eternally coming up. No. Kill him and then seduce him [laughs] but not seduce him. It's never been on the agenda and we've never had a discussion about it. It's not something that I desire or want. No.

I don't quite follow the "kill him and then seduce him ... but not seduce him" part. Sounds like we're talking about necrophilia. And I don't even mind — much — that this 145th installment of Bond will not include anything gay with James, but I don't get that they've never even had a discussion about it. Really? We are talking a franchise that has done about everything under the sun and needs to stay relevant and fresh, and having Bond have a same-sex romance or encounter never even came up?

As for Craig, clearly when he says it's not something "he wants" he is referring to what he wants for the character of Bond as he's played gay before including in Infamous (pictured below).

the saga never ends LOL

the Star has a story about Reeke drifting apart:

"Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal are discovering that absence does not make the heart grow fonder. The couple, who started dating in early 2007, are struggling to maintain their relationship now that Jake is working 19-hour days in Morocco and London on his next potential blockbuster, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

"This is his first epic, and his mind is on his work," a pal of Reese's tells Star. "They talk on the phone and e-mail, but he's not 'there.' Reese is wondering if this is how it's going to be between them every time he's out of the country filming."

The relationship hit such a rough patch that Reese, 32, flew to London for a quick rendezvous with Jake, 27, at The Dorchester hotel in mid-September.

"They really needed to reconnect and remember why they were in a relationship in the first place," says another source. "While there, they even went house hunting for a place because Jake will be using London as his home base until December. Reese doesn't like the formality of a hotel for her and her two kids."

Hopefully, celebrating the holidays together "will get them back on the same page," adds the source."

To the one poster STILL on the Chris bandwagon - are you completely ignoring Ted's clues?
He would have dropped a couple of hints about the bf being a civilian already. Not to mention the actual "JG and AN holding hands" in NY spiel.
Give it up. It's not Chris.

From Ted 26th September (Look at the order of the questions. The question mentioning Austin Nichols is in the middle of two Toothy's boyfriend Gray Goose questions):

Dear Ted:
Are Clay Aiken and his baby son Toothy's boyfriend Gray Goose and Baby Tile?
—Jane

Dear Too Obvious:
Toothy's lover isn't coming out anytime soon.

Dear Ted:
Now that Sophia Bush is single and working on One Tree Hill with three of her ex-boyfriends, Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty and Austin Nichols, do you think she will start dating one of them again? I hope she goes for Austin. I liked them together.
—Paula

Dear Ex Factor:
CMM is out, fer sure. He can maybe hope for some hate sex, but that's it. I think Bush should even the scoreboard and go for Benji Madden. Thoughts?

Dear Ted:
Could you tell us more about Toothy's boyfriend? He is half of the most intriguing and beautiful Hollywood gay closeted couple and the other daddy of Baby Tile. Don't you think he deserves more attention from you?
—April

Dear Man Hunt:
No, but his abs surely do.

Brothers - posted on IMDb:

"I wouldn't be surprised if they reshoot a few scenes. People who attended screenings kept saying it was almost perfect except for the scenes of Tobey overseas. They could refilm those, bring the whole thing together.

I do think they're gonna need a proper campaign. Most of the films involving the war or soldiers have been tanking lately- and some of those are more upbeat than Brothers. Having Tobey, Natalie, and Jake making the rounds will help the film tremendously."

I guess it's consistent with:

Nearly everyone in attendance, including the guy I spoke to, loved Jake and Natalie's characters and their performances. In fact, everyone loved that storyline the best. The crowd was about evenly divided on Tobey and his character. The guy said that Tobey starts very weak, but finishes strong.

MGM Memo Surveys 'Valkyrie' Online Buzz

It never fails to amaze me how studios convince themselves that up is down, and left is right. Here's an internal MGM memo giddy over the possibility that the new trailer for Tom Cruise's December 26th Nazi pic will translate into big biz:

From: Sandro Bellini [Digital Marketing | Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc]
Sent: Monday, September 29, 2008 4:27 PM

Attached is an updated report on online buzz around the new Valkyrie assets:

OVERVIEW

Favorable Tone Dominates Trailer Buzz – Currently, reactions to the Valkyrie trailer are significantly favorable (approximately 80%) within Entertainment, Fan-Boy, Video Sharing, Social Networks, Social Bookmarks, and Fan communities. Fans deem the trailer “fantastic,” often praising the “stylistic” way that the footage was cut and asserting that it is “way better” than the initial teaser. Enthusiasts also note that the “intriguing” trailer has furthered their anticipation for the film’s release and anticipate that it will feature many great performances from the ensemble cast. Additionally, many viewers share avid excitement to see Bryan Singer’s “distinctive work” in the film and, while others admitted that they “aren’t fans” of Tom Cruise, they stated that the trailer has “sold” them on seeing Valkyrie in December. Neutral reactions (15%) arise from viewers sharing mixed reactions to the trailer, often asserting that while the film has the potential to be “awesome” they still have their doubts based on the initial critical buzz. The limited amount of unfavorable discussion (5%) stems from critics expressing general disinterest in the film, contending that the trailer makes Valkyrie look like “another Hollywood action movie.”

Additional Assets Also Garner Rave Reviews – In addition to the trailer, the Valkyrie one-sheet, featurette, and stills have been generating largely positive user reactions. The poster comprises the majority of discussion, as fans laud the “stylized design” and hope that it represents the “gritty” feel of the film. “I definitely want one of these up on my walls right away.” The stills garnered high profile placement with features including the LA Times – The Envelope and Fan-Boy sites such as Joblo. The Official Website has also had several mentions about its “cool new features.”

Lack of German Accents Still an Issue – While the majority of buzz about the lack of German accents is neutral, the topic is fueling discussion among online audiences. Critics contend that their absence creates a “lack of cohesiveness” while supporters believe that their inclusion would make the film appear “cheesy.” There were also numerous users sharing mixed opinions on the topic, stating that while the lack of accents is “distracting” and anticipate it will “take some getting used to,” the trailer “looks amazing” and they intend on seeing the film upon its release.

Trailer Coverage Widely Spread – The Valkyrie trailer was posted across nine alpha video sites, with the postings on Yahoo! Video, YouTube, Trailer Addict, and Spike generating the greatest number online views.

Nope. Didn't say he was.

But who am I more likely to believe: Ted who has met both Jake and Austin and is a male gay gossip columnist, with maybe some dubious sources and a tendancy to exaggerate
OR
a female slash fan who has never been to WeHo and only knows Jake from the magazines, (and my guess is doesn't really know any gay men.)

Kristin Scott Thomas wows New York

Kristin Scott Thomas has wowed Broadway as the West End production of The Seagull opened to American audiences. Kristin, who picked up an Olivier best actress award for her performance as Arkadina in the Anton Chekhov play, along with Mackenzie Crook, Peter Sarsgaard and Art Malik received a standing ovation at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

"I love it, I love this play and I could do it anywhere," she said at the show's afterparty at Sardi's. "But there's something mythical about doing a show on Broadway and it's just so exciting. It was quite difficult to get this up-and-running and getting it here, people's schedules, and it's taken us a long time, but we're here." Mackenzie, who also made his Broadway debut, revealed: "It's an actor's dream to come to Broadway so it was quite an emotional thing today with the curtain call. I was just thinking, 'My God, this is incredible to be here, and in such a beautiful play, and playing such a role in such a beautiful place. It's a dream come true."

Co-star Peter, whose partner is Maggie Gyllenhaal, added: "I feel good, I feel great, I feel a little high. It feels a little like when you get into a very minor car accident where no one got hurt and you get that little feeling. The feeling where you go 'ahhh' and you need a drink? That's what I feel like."

ANISTON HITS BACK AT LOVE LIFE PUBLICITY ALLEGATIONS

JENNIFER ANISTON has blasted critics who accuse the actress of using her love life for publicity, branding the insult "below the belt". The former Friends star has enjoyed a series of high profile relationships over the years, including a five-year marriage to Brad Pitt, and romances with Vince Vaughn and singer John Mayer.

But she insists she's never used the romances to further her own career.

She says, "It's been incorrectly alleged that I'd abuse a romantic attachment as a publicity stunt. That's below the belt. "To love and be loved is the most beautiful thing that can happen to a person, and one's own life is more important than all the glamour and fame in the world."

Governor Sarah Palin tolerates us. Pardon us if we don't return the favor.

...
What I really have to talk about here is the fact that moderator Gwen Ifill did throw a question at the two candidates regarding same-sex benefits and gay marriage. Just listen to the difference in the language that Biden and Palin used, despite the fact that they were essentially (so claims Palin, anyway) saying the same thing.

When Joe Biden spoke about ensuring basic Constitutional rights regarding hospital visitation, property ownership, spousal insurance coverage, etc., he spoke of support, of civil rights, and of every American being guaranteed what is promised to them in the Constitution regardless of sexual preference. He said, "it's only fair".

What did Palin speak of?

"Tolerance."

Yes, the extent of her support of our basic human rights is that she is tolerant of us and "our choosing". She tolerates our existence. She tolerates our whining for the abilities to see our partners in the hospital or buy houses together. She's tolerant of our preposterous demands that our relationships be protected and our loved ones be provided for as hers are.

Governor Palin, "tolerance" just doesn't cut it, and if you expect that the LGBT people of this country are going to settle for your tolerance, you're even crazier than I thought.

When asked about gay marriage, Biden was adamant that he and Obama support full civil unions for gay couples, but then made it clear that he does not support gay marriage, as he feels that is a definition best left up to local governance and faith communities. I disagree, but I appreciate his putting it simply and clearly and making that distinction.

When it came to Palin, she said that she does not support gay marriage. Full stop.

Aside from that, if this woman gains office I'm going to drown a kitten. She is literally transforming into Tina Fey's impression of her as the debate progresses. She winked at the camera. She said "doggone". She gave a shout-out to a class of third-graders. I'm shocked that she didn't drag that baby out again. Someone please stop the insanity.

And IMO there's a yuck factor in putting Jake and Chris together--too incestuous. They've been friends from childhood, and Chris seems to be almost a brother to Jake.
