At the recent GLAAD Awards, I threw a few questions to the organizations president, Neil Giuliano, and here's what he had to say:
Q. How do think things have gone in terms of LGBT representation in the media since last year's awards?
A. "We've certainly made progress. We need more visibility and we need more representation. the ones that we do have are for the most part pretty outstanding but there are not that many. When you look at the number of characters that we are whether it be television or film, or even the way some of our stories are being portrayed in the press, we still have a long way to go."
Q Do we sort of live in a bubble and think there's more than there really is?. I think it's great that we have Luke and Noah and Scotty and Kevin. When I was a kid there was none of that.
A. Because we're so visible in society at-large, we do have an misunderstanding that we';re everywhere from a standpoint of visibility in the media. We';re not as visible in the media as we could be. But, we;re much more visible than we were so we get that kind of perception.
Q. What do you think of the Scotty and Kevin storyline on "Brothers & Sisters"?
A. I think it;s groundbreaking. I'm excited about it. And we;re actually going to have a whole lot of information up on our web site about that for the media to help tell that story fairly and accurately around the country.
Q And what about Luke and Noah on "As the World Turns."? A lot of people have been updset because they didn't kiss for such a long time until last week.
A. I think people have to remember this is daytime drama. Nothing happens quick on daytime drama. They want you to tune in, they want you to come back, they want you to see what's gonna happen next. So they had a kiss, I think that's important. It's great visibility for authenticity of that relationship and we'll see where that storyline goes.
Q. They had seven months without a kiss though. Were you dissapointed?
A. And we had more than seven years without even those characters. So for as frustrated as we are that it hasn't gone as fast as we'd like, we have to acknowledge that we are making some progress.

Jake is not staying at that house in Columbia despite the lawyers threat, he is staing at the Hilton in Columbia with the rest of the crew.
From all reports out of L.A., he is practically living at her place in Brentwood, look for him to put his house up for sale like his parents.
There is basically nothing to do in Columbia so I can understand them going to Charleston, which is about 2 hours from Columbia for a few days, the hotel they stayed at is 100% better than anything Columbia can offer.

I completely agree and from what I understand, it's a big reason why Ryan Phillipe cheated and bolted. He couldn't TAKE her relentless ambition and coldness. Plus, she didn't give a shit what he did after awhile as long as it didn't hurt her public image.
As for Heath, Jake will get his in the end. Kudos to PSH, DDL and Sean Penn for honoring Heath so beautifully. And these are the best actors of their generation. Do you think they would have spoken up if Jake had passed? No way.

Funny that Reeke has problems being associated with Heath, but no problems being associated with that producer guy Ryan who spouted about how in love Reeke is. Someone on OMG mentioned that he was before a judge last week for a hit and run accident while under the influence. Seems he's been trying to use all of his charity work and name-dropping about all of his connections to get an easier sentence from the judge. This is who pr is now touting as a "friend" of Jake's.
But don't you know that Jake is too good for someone like Heath? He was ashamed of being associated with the druggie so he made sure that won’t happen, too bad it backfired. At least like 9:30 says he has friends like that producer guy Ryan, Jake must be really proud of that.

Did anyone read that ScarJo and Ryan Reynolds are engaged? Now this is what I would call a low-profile couple. They've been dating for well over a year and except for a few pics, rarely get photographed together. In fact, they definitely seem to shun the spotlight when they're together.
Compare them to Reeke.
Britney and F-Fed, Tom-Kat and Brangelina are about the only couples in recent memory that have had higher profiles than Reeke. That worked out real well for their careers now didn't it. Britney is a mess, Brangelina's last few movies have been box office failures, and Cruise's Nazi movie keeps having the opening date pushed back because it is such a mess. Oh, and did anyone actually see Katie's last film?

Well there are some couples out there who aren't obsessed with selling themselves as the All-American Apple Pie couple of the century.
Why would she need Heath to put in a good word for her? Did they even know each other outside of work? I seriously dopubt Heath would have had any say in her casting, given that he was a new cast member himself.
This is an issue close to my heart, so excuse me for this long rant. Someone already said it, but it's worth repeating: Reese Witherspoon is the PAID "global ambassador" for Avon Products, Inc. Her "charity work" is a multi-million dollar JOB and PR photo op.
Avon may promote a worthwhile cause, but by paying Reese for her "support," the hard-earned savings of millions of ordinary Americans will be going not directly to those in need, but into Ms Witherspoon's already fat bank account. I might consider her less of a phony if she donated the money to charity instead of lining her own pockets.
That aside, the Avon Foundation claims it has an 80% net return of funds raised for breast cancer. But in the past, the head of Avon's Breast Cancer Crusade admitted the Walks' overhead eats up 40 percent of money raised. It's also a fact that Avon"s other goal, besides positive CSR spin for themselves, is to encourage women to buy their PRODUCT.
Breast Cancer for Fun and Profit
"ABC evening news aired an investigative feature on the breast cancer awareness contributions that various corporations pledged... The conclusion was that most of these promotions led to increased sales and windfall profits that dwarfed the moderate donations that the extra sales generated. Consumers, often women, went out of their way to buy products that they normally did not purchase because they thought these products benefited breast cancer programs."
I'm not against corporate charity, far from it. But it's got two sides. As consumers, we need to be aware of where our money is going, and just whose purposes are being served.
"There are no pink ribbons in Barbara Brenner's office. Instead the activist, who runs San Francisco's Breast Cancer Action, sports a button that says "Cancer Sucks." Brenner is fighting, in a sense, to get her cause back. She tells everyone who'll listen that companies are exploiting breast cancer for profit, and Breast Cancer Action ran its own ads in October calling on consumers to "think before you pink." Brenner herself projects an image that is anything but pink; she's angry, points out unpleasant facts like how all the self-exams in the world might not save you, and never lets up. "Some good is being done" by all the corporate attention, she acknowledges. "But as a society, we have no idea how much good this really is doing, and we shouldn't trust the companies to tell us. Their business is selling products."
The Selling of Breast Cancer
Reese's work for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer contrasts with that of the many many women and men who give FREELY of their time and money for this cause.
More important, while it's very good to raise awareness and companies such as Avon are doing some valuable and laudable work, we should not buy into everything we are being sold.

There’re pics at the 2006 Oscars with Michelle&Heath and Maggie&Peter talking, Heath mentions in an interview that they lived in Brooklyn 5 min away from each other, Maggie was there to support Jake at VFF in 2005 with BBM. So I guess it's safe to say that yes they knew each other outside of work.

There were some subscriber-only hints about this movie over at THR earlier this year, and now the cats out of the bag. Variety reports that Maggie Gyllenhaal and Paul Bettany are heading to Australia for director Shirley Barrett's South Solitary. The feature is one of many that is going to be funded by Film Finance Corp., as it gears up to join the Australian Film Commission and "make a super agency called Screen Australia."
According to IMDb, the film will focus "on a disgraced young woman and a soldier suffering from the ongoing effects of shell shock who discover a great need for companionship and hope in the face of hostile elements." I have a feeling you can tell who will play what role. There is no word on when this will be set, but it could be either present-day or the past, since one of the other films being funded focuses on Australian SAS soldiers in Vietnam (The Last Man).
What's confusing me is the claim that this will be set in Tasmania. South Solitary is a small island with a light house off the coast of New South Wales, which is part of the mainland. It's location is south of Brisbane, and north of Sydney, so I don't see how Tasmania fits into this. (Is there another lighthouse island called South Solitary?!) If you drove to the tip and took a ferry to Tas, it would be almost 2,000 km. That's not exactly IN Tasmania or off the coast of it. Any Aussies out there who could clarify?

I understand where you're coming from 5:57 and I'm not saying that Maggie got the part because Heath said something about it to CN but I think there's a huge difference between casting the Joker and Rachel Dawes, the first is iconic and very difficult to pull off just right (and what about the huge pressure that was put on CN to cast the right actor?) while the latter is sort of just a tiny role. Anyone could've played Rachel whereas the same thing does not apply to the Joker. That being said I think Maggie is a very good actress and I like her a lot.

ok so I was there for nine hours!!! and it was all worth it!!! they were actually filming outside today..they filmed the same scene over and over and over the whole time I was there! ok..so I immediately saw jake when i got there and Reese was there with him!! omg i just love her...they were so cute together!! ok so we asked jake for an autograph and he said he had to work but he smiled a huge smile and we asked him maybe later..and he said maybe yeah..then I saw JAMES MARSDEN!! and I said hey james and he said hey how are you and i said im doing good how about you and he said good thanks (i was freaking out) I saw Jessica, and peewee, and catherine keener, and tracy morgan!! anyways after nine hours of waiting they were finally done filming outside and he saw us waiting and he said do you guys want an autograph?? and i was like yeah! I took rendition with me for him to sign..and he said what is your name and I said Nicole and he said with a C and I was like yeah! and he said ok and he signed it and i said thank you jake!! He signed it Nicole- thanks for your patience and then he signed his name! Please tell me this is all just a big phoney rumor like Hayden Christensen as Superman! It would easily be the biggest travesty in all of Marvel history if McConaughey was cast as Captain America. He isn't the first and he won't be the last to die of an accidental prescription drug overdose. Seems endemic in these stressful times, especially when you work in a cutthroat business that has no time to deal with sensitive types like Heath.
That's why people like he and River Phoenix aren't suited to be Hollywood stars. They are too sensiive for this industry and it ended fatal for both.
