Brave admission. Supernatural star Jared Padalecki revealed in a new interview this week that he has dealt with clinical depression.
The veteran actor, 32, is leading a charitable effort to raise awareness of mental health issues, and opened up to Variety about his own ties to the effort.
"I, for a long time, have been passionate about people dealing with mental illness and struggling with depression, or addiction, or having suicidal thoughts," he told the mag. "I, in the past, have had my own struggles of not [being] so happy with where I am in life, which is strange and I think it goes to show... Maybe a lot of people don’t know this, but season three [of Supernatural], we were shooting an episode, and I went back to my trailer to get changed and just kind of broke down."
"A doctor came to set and talked to me for about 30 minutes or 45 minutes and said, 'Jared, I think you're clinically depressed,'" Padalecki continued. "'I think I should write you a note and we can shut down production for five days and then we can take it from there.'"

With a quick bow of his head, director Tom Ford launched into a dramatic presentation of his drama Nocturnal Animals to potential buyers on Thursday.
The Jake Gyllenhaal-Amy Adams starrer, which is being shopped internationally by FilmNation and domestically by CAA, is generating plenty of buzz, but not all of it the kind that make buyers spark. The New York Post reported that George Clooney has dropped out due to a falling out with Ford.
But a source with knowledge of the project says there was no discord between the two men and that Ford will produce the film by himself through his Fade to Black production company, just as he did for A Single Man, and has no plans to bring on another producer.
Furthermore, Clooney’s deal to produce had never closed, and the two — both repped by CAA’s Bryan Lourd — had only engaged in conversations for the past two months about finding a way to team together on the project. But ultimately, they couldn’t make their respective schedules mesh.
Buyers at the Nocturnal Animals presentation said Ford put on a real show, spraying something in the air before delivering his detailed vision of the film, while Lourd looked on.
He then met with buyers individually for in-depth conversations. The presentation was “enormously charming,” said one foreign buyer on hand. The film is expected to sell in Germany, the most significant foreign territory, over the weekend, with Telepool and Concorde in the mix.

We’ve commented on some of the shlockier films being put on sale at this year’s market but at the higher end of the scale, some big names have also been involved in some classier deals. The biggest so far comes from director Tom Ford, who is following up his Oscar-nominated drama A Single Man, with a high-concept thriller called Nocturnal Animals. His pitch, which apparently included him spraying a scent at certain buyers to evoke a certain mood, was a hit and Focus Features has picked it up for a whopping $20m.
The film is an adaptation of the creepy 1993 book Tony & Susan, written by Austin Wright, which tells two stories at once: one is about a woman who receives a manuscript from her ex husband which causes her to relive their relationship as she reads while the other is the story she’s reading, a violent survival thriller. Ford has already attached Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams in the lead roles but lost his producer George Clooney, who backed out last week. There were rumours of a falling out but both actor and director have denied this.

The 34-year-old star's boxing drama has been creating quite a buzz and was due to be entered at the festival in the South of France.
However, as Gyllenhaal is part of the jury the Weinstein Company decided to desist with their plans as they decided it would be too much pressure on the actor to act as a judge and appear as a promoting talent, according to the New York Post newspaper.
Instead, a special private screening was arranged to take place on Tuesday (19.05.15) but it had to be cancelled as Gyllenhaal was too busy with his official duties.
Gyllenhaal is sitting on the judging panel at the film festival alongside Sienna Miller, directors Ethan and Joel Coen, Guillermo del Toro, Spanish actresses Rossy de Palma and Sophie Marceau, composer Rokia Traore and filmmaker Xavier Dolan.
The jury's job is to decide which film receives the coveted Palme D'Or award on 24 May.
In 'Southpaw' Gyllenhaal plays pugilist Billy Hope and he stars alongside Rachel McAdams, Naomie Harris, Forest Whitaker, Rita Ora and Tyrese Gibson. It is directed by Antoine Fuqua and is scheduled for a July 2015 release.
