Dr. Parnassus, Sessions One & Two

Yesterday someone paged Dr. Parnassus and made me want to read his comments again. I've decided to repost them here – they are too good to be left hidden.

Feb 10, 2008

Q: Doctor Parnassus, why did Heath Ledger die?
Doctor Parnassus: My child, he died so his family could exploit his death for their own aggrandizement.
Q: And is Heath a bad man?
Doctor Parnassus: Oh yes. Seeking to avoid pain by using artificial aids is a sign of unremitting wickedness. Mr Ledger was feeling anxious and blue, so his doctor gave him Valium and Xanax. The Xanax disrupted his sleep, so he was prescribed Restoril. It didn't work so well and he was having headaches, so he took ibuproferen for the pain. Then he got a cold after working long nights, so he took some antihistamine. I wouldn’t be surprised if he drank wine regularly as well. It’s not human weakness, it’s simply evil. Tom Cruise agrees with me on this.
Q: So why did Cate Blanchett give a eulogy at his funeral?
Doctor Parnassus: CAA made her step in after one of their other clients dropped out.
Q: But why did Daniel-Day Lewis, one of our great actors, say admiring things about Heath?
Doctor Parnassus: Sentimental Anglo-Irish, you know. Plus self-aggrandizement.
Q: Doc, it’s coming clear. Heath was no good and everyone who paid tribute to him was faking or selfish.
Doctor Parnassus: Exactamundo, dear one.
Q: Family and mother of his child, too?
Doctor Parnassus: See my first answer.
Q: Jake Gyllenhaal didn’t pay tribute so…he’s the only non-phony. And unselfish?
Doctor Parnassus: One of my interesting cases. On this, he is a paragon of perfection, my sweet. He stayed silent as the grave (no pun intended!), avoided the spotlight (except in appropriate places such as People magazine), and kept shooting his movie (work comes first) and living his life with Ms Reese (another client of mine). I’m quite impressed with the boy.
Q: Now that you’ve explained it all, me too.

Q: Doctor Parnassus, why do the haters keeping hatin’ on Jake?
Doctor Parnassus: Oh my pumpkin, the homosexualistas love to devour their own.
Q: Jake is gay?
Doctor Parnassus: Hellooo! He is one of the most cheerful people I know!
Q: But I mean, why knock him for being public with the girlfriend and private with the dead friend?
Doctor Parnassus: These kvetchers are confused people who think inconsistency is bad. Inconsistency is good! PDA with Ms Reese but no display for Mr Heath is actually a sign of solidarity with all those dedicated to living lives of integration and wholeness.
Q: Hmmm. Doesn’t it suggest the maturity of a 6-year-old?
Doctor Parnassus: Not at all. I would say that people who speak out are immature. Mr Daniel Lewis is six.
Q: But about the haters…
Doctor Parnassus: Irrational need for integrity. Integrity is the last refuge of the insincere. You know, the good end happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what fiction means.
Q: You’ve lost me.
Doctor Parnassus: Ok, how about this? Always forgive your enemies - nothing annoys them so much.
Q: You mean forgive the Jake haters?
Doctor Parnassus: No, I mean forgive the Heath lovers. They’ll hate that.

A few months ago, Jodie Foster accepted an award and thanked her "beautiful Cydney, who sticks by me through all the rotten and the bliss." Some think this was Jodie's way of coming out and publicly acknowledging she likes to eat Cydney Bernard's tartar sauce. Well, The National Enquirer (via DM) claims their beautiful lesbian union has come to an end! Hurry! Put on an Ani DiFranco song. I need some lesbian comfort.

A source didn't say why Jodie ended her 14-year relationship with Cydney. They did say, "Jodie's break up with Cydney is shocking. She and Cydney have been together for so many years and have two children together - the potential fallout and legal wrangling from this could be monumental."

This is not supposed to happen. Lesbian couples never break up. The pyramids in Egypt will crumble, but lesbian relationships will live on for eternity. Seriously, lesbians stay together for like eons.

Hmm....who can we set Jodie up with now that she's single? She needs someone younger, sexier and more feminine. I'm thinking Clay Gayken.

Colin Farrell Looks Like Shit

Manorexic alert! The Sun is reporting that Colin Farrell is looking like Skeletor's peen for a new movie. Colin has reportedly dropped tons of weight for his new movie, Triage. That's funny, because the bitch looks like he's in dire need of an IV. Maybe he's on the Dreamboat Doherty diet?

'Housewives' star wants Perez dead - Jesse Metcalfe’s alleged comments are deadly

It's a petty life on the D list.
Remember Jesse Metcalfe? You know, the hot actor who played Miguel on Passions before landing a plum role as the young landscaper who got to sleep with Eva Longoria Parker on Desperate Housewives? Well, Metcalfe has been through a tussle of troubles as of late, including a brawl outside an L.A. nightclub, an on-and-off again engagement with Nadine Coyle and a stint in rehab. It seems Metcalfe’s latest target is none other than celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who has posted homosexual jokes about the former Housewives star repeatedly on his website.

According to PR Inside, Hilton was “unnerved” when Metcalfe became upset at these jokes, and as a result claimed he wished Hilton were dead.

“That was quite negative energy,” the article quotes Hilton as stating. “He was drunk and said he wanted me dead. I was quite shocked. I’d only joked that he might be gay, what’s the big deal?” Guess not everyone on this planet finds the openly gay, pink-haired blogger a riot. Who knew?

Ready To Wed And Wed Are Totally Different Things

OK! Magazine this week has the huge headline that Reese and Jake are ready to wed. I think all of us are ready to wed. If you are single or even if you aren't and the right person came along, I would think all of us are ready to wed.

Wouldn't you know it? You read the article and there isn't a damn thing in there about the plans for the wedding or where it is going to be at. Hell, according to the article they aren't even formally engaged. Oh, those are the words of their source, not mine. Seems that Reese and Jake are saying that it won't be long before Jake pops the question to Reese.

So, let me get this straight. Not preparing for a wedding, not engaged, doesn't appear that they have even talked about it, but they are ready to wed. But wait, it gets better. A source at the restaurant where they ate said the pair couldn't keep their eyes off each other. Not their hands or their mouths or their tongues. Their eyes.

You know what that is? That's not true love, that's being polite. Unless you are scared of someone, when you are seated across from someone and eating, it is generally considered bad form to keep your eyes down and on your food. Couldn't take their eyes off each other. Where were they supposed to put them? I guess the fact that they weren't both staring at the ass of the waiter is a positive step, but is hardly worthy of marriage talk.

Oh, and the friend wants the world to know that Reese would never live with Jake prior to marrying him, because as the friend puts it, "Reese is very conservative and traditional. I'm sure she doesn't want her kids to see her 'living in sin.'"

No, that would be terrible. Ummm. Doesn't Ryan actually live with someone? So yeah, that point kind of goes out the window. Anyway, if you need a good laugh and a great lesson in how to get people at the checkout line to pick up your magazine, this is excellent.

Girls Love Gay Male Porn

Brokeback Mountain was just the beginning . . .

I just got back from a weekend at the University of California at Santa Barbara, where I attended "Console-ing Passions: An International Conference on Television, Audio, Video, New Media, and Feminism). It was three days of geeking out with academics about TV, the Internet, and various kinds of media studies—who knew that people are getting their Ph.D.'s in Battlestar Galactica and The Hills these days? Naturally, the first panel I went to was all about porn, with four scholars presenting papers on lesbian identity politics and pornography, the 1980s cult hit Café Flesh and its '90s sequel, the industry in Vietnam, and bad-boy director/current Justice Department target Max Hardcore, that last topic featuring the best title ever: "Scrunchies, Braces, and Throat Fucking: Performances of Girlhood in Gonzo Porn."

A bunch of women stuck around afterwards to continue the discussion that the panel had, um, stimulated, and we began talking about the kind of porn we all watched. Someone brought up the work of Shine Louise Houston's Pink and White Productions (pinkwhite.biz), a San Francisco–based company that describes its mission as creating "adult entertainment that exposes the complexities of queer sexual desire . . . dedicated to producing sexy and exciting images that reflect today's blurred gender lines and fluid sexualities." She thought it was amazing; I chimed in and said, "Yes, it's diverse, radical, and I totally applaud Houston's vision."

Another person chimed in: "Do you like fag porn? All my queer female friends do." Hers wasn't a surprising question. I know lesbians who dig it more than any other kind of hardcore fare. I briefly dated a genderqueer dyke who just loved gay male porn: She ran out and got the newest title from her favorite company the day it came out. In this case, she adored movies from Bel Ami (belamionline.com), which feature young, hairless European lads (think the boy-on-boy version of the straight barely-legal genre). The boys are very pretty and androgynous, and some of them could definitely be mistaken for dykes with their clothes on. But other girl-loving girls love über-butch men, leather daddies, and big hairy bears, so it's not always about androgyny. By now, I think it's commonplace to accept that queer women love queer male porn, but what is that all about?

First, let's acknowledge a practical reality: There isn't a whole lot of lesbian porn produced by and for lesbians, or that feels authentic to lesbian viewers. Some dykes can get their fix of queerness—both the lust and the cultural aesthetics—via gay porn, even though it features people of a different gender than those they fuck in real life. Queer is often attracted to queer first and foremost, like when the guy I lusted after in high school turned out to be gay—it makes sense in some way.

And speaking of gender, plenty of lesbians identify with various forms of masculinity: Their own gender expression may be at the masculine end of the spectrum, or they may like to fantasize and play with gender and sex. Gay porn gives them a range of masculine desires to relate to or lust after. For those dykes who themselves identify as fag—or who like butch/butch, boi/boi, or transman/transman sex—they can see a hyper-masculine version of their own sex lives and/or fantasies performed on the small screen.

The phenomenon of straight women who love gay male porn has been documented and was discussed plenty when flocks of females gushed over Brokeback Mountain. When women came out of their fag-loving closet, it illustrated the flip side of a common theory: Plenty of straight men love girl/girl porn because they want to see lots of who they lust after. The same is true for het women: They like to look at hot naked men fucking, and it doesn't really matter that they're fucking each other. I think it may also be true that while pornos full of romance and mood lighting are marketed to women, some prefer a sweaty, get-right-down-to-it romp in the locker room any day. Wired.com columnist Regina Lynn, author of Sexier Sex: Lessons from the Brave New Sexual Frontier, writes that it's not always about identifying with someone in a scene: "For me, gay porn has always been arousing because of its masculinity. The strength and power, plus the double dose of raw male drive and sexuality, add up to more than the sum of their parts."

On Nerve.com, journalist Kera Bolonik admits that she gets off with men onscreen, but not in real life: "Nothing makes me hotter than watching two men going at it. There is something really admirable about gay male porn, at least in principle: it's egalitarian. Everyone gets a turn at the top as well as at the bottom. Everyone comes, and often they do it together." I'm not sure this concept of equality is attractive to everyone (I personally like a hefty dose of power dynamics with my sex), but it supports the notion of seeing some kind of sameness, something non-heterosexual represented. And it also raises the issue that many women, regardless of their orientation, have with porn: their ambivalence or discomfort with seeing female performers when issues of consent, enjoyment, and pleasure are unclear. Somehow, our concerns and feminist politics don't overshadow the sex when women are absent (as if a man could not degrade or coerce another man, which is obviously flawed logic).

I like gay porn for the hot dudes, the overflow of testosterone, and the unapologetic sexual desire. I also like straight porn. But that's a subject for another column.

To change the topic of conversation away from Nailed! It's deflection, a chance to distract us from a much bigger and more embarassing story (ie. the Nailed mess). He get mileage out of the rumor even if he denies it.

Kind of like Edwards' endorsement is a temporary distraction from Obama's 41-pt shellacking in West Wirginia, and probable shellacking in Kentucky.

Maybe Jake should be a politician after all! Reeke has certainly prepared him for a political career. His mendacious manipulations of late will certainly prepare him for a Cal. Senate run.

Dear Becky:
Ted recently referred to Jen Aniston as a major fag hag. Someone asked where that put Vince Vaughn, and Ted (no doubt backed by the legal dept.) said V.V. is "all man" and segued into his weight. Assuming she is a fag hag what, if anything, does that say about Jen and John Mayer?

Bullied Assistant Put Snot In Bonnie Fuller's Mini Soufflé

Class resentment and anonymous speech on the internet make a toxic combination. (According to Fucked Company, I once paid for lazik eye surgery for a young MBA on staff whom I actually despised.) But occasionally the office legends are accurate—which is lucky because there were some particularly lurid stories about axed Star supremo Bonnie Fuller. Before the stake was put through her heart, the celebrity mag editor was so demanding and abusive to her underlings that she warranted her very own rumor message board, 'I Survived Bonnie'. The demand for first-class tickets from the Make-A-Wish charity? The bullied assistants who exacted revenge by rubbing snot in her souffle and crotch juice on the bread? All true, according to 2004's bitchy profile by Judith Newman of Vanity Fair. After the jump, read about the editor who made all her counterparts look like saints.

William Shatner's (and Star Trek's) Gay Panic

William Shatner, the Star Trek actor who has some sort of strange voice modulation disease, rambled to Page Six last night about a gay panic he experienced as a newbie to New York: "We're in the audience, I'm a young hot-blooded Canadian and out come the dancing girls, a plethora of women - and I feel his hand brush my knee. I thought, well, it's an accident, then I felt it again. What the [bleep]? I got up and ran out." How horrible that must have been for him. Fitting that he ended up on Star Trek which has been a strangely free of gay topics in its many and varied incarnations. Though, myriad ways have been found to gay Shatner (and the show) up a bit. Like in (albeit pretty dumb) YouTube music clip mash-ups, like the one above, and in particularly horrifying slash fiction (a section of which you can find after the jump). Final frontier indeed.

For one shocked moment, Jim could see no external genitalia at all—only dense black hair. Then Spock took his hand, guiding it to where the testes would be in a human male, and Jim felt the soft pressure of the sac descending against his palm. "During moments of stress or environmental extremes the organs are drawn up almost entirely into the body," Spock said. "With practice, the response can also be initiated intentionally. The process of reversal is less easily controlled, however." He hesitated. "Any degree of tension tends to prolong the retraction of the phallus."

He moved Jim's hand up ten centimeters or so. Jim could just make out a dimpled area under the hair, and behind that, a firm mass. He massaged the place gently, feeling it move under the skin. Spock's fingers, where they still rested against the back of his hand, tensed and Jim stopped, unable to tell whether the stroking was pleasant or not.

Playboy goes a little gay

With its television revenue down $2.8 million already this year, Playboy Enterprises plans to offer 20 hours of softcore gay male programming to Time Warner Cable subscribers, XBIZ.com reports. The new service is expected to begin next month. According to the memo obtained by the adult business news site, Playboy will offer "professionally produced adult programs selected by Playboy, targeted to the male gay community, edited to a standard no more explicit" than softcore pornography. What that means in porn terms after the jump.

kirk and spock? grody.

Anonymous said...

But it all started with Kirk/Spock :) Imagine 1974 - no PC computers, no Internet:

1974: "A Fragment Out Of Time" is the first known Star Trek slash to be published in fanzine. The author was Diane Marchant. The vignette was published in Grup #3. The language was highly coded and did not refer to Spock and Kirk by name but rather referred to them as he and him.

Kirk/Spock, also commonly referred to as "K/S," was the first prominent slash pairing to appear in English-language fan fiction. In fact, the term slash (as in slash fiction) comes from the expression "Kirk slash Spock"--as distinguished from "Kirk and Spock" (K&S), stories about the friendship between Kirk and Spock with no sexual component. The term was shortly thereafter applied to depictions of homosexuality in media fandom at large.

Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford not bothered by gay rumors...

Chace Crawford, seen here in a GQ photo shoot, tells the magazine that gay rumors are all part of being rich and famous. The rumors about the "Gossip Girl" pretty boy were rampant a few months back when he was photographed a lot with singer JC Chazez who has denied being gay or that they are more than platonic friends.

Chace told GQ in its June issue said of these kinds of rumors "Hey, if there's a gay rumor, you know you've made it."

That's a refreshing attitude. We're seeing more and more hot young stars very non-chalant about gay rumors but, I think, those are the ones who are not gay. The ones in the closet probably have very thin skins about that kind of speculation!

More heat for Bergstein

The topper of Capitol Films and ThinkFilm maintains that his companies are firmly on track, but there are growing rumblings Stateside about unpaid bills and lawsuits. David Bergstein, the head of the Capco Group, will be staying on a yacht called Pegasus at Cannes. He told Daily Variety Capco plans to announce a new Euro sales arm at the fest, where it is peddling pics including "The Edge of Love," "Incendiary" and "The Last Word" and ThinkFilm prexy Mark Urman will be looking for potential acquisitions.

Bergstein blamed a bridge financier for last week's shutdown of "Nailed" and said that Capitol, which has already invested $12 million in the project, has found another bridge financier to ensure its well being.

However, it's far from smooth sailing for Capco on the home front: Daily Variety has learned of several new lawsuits brewing against Bergstein and his production entities for unpaid loans and failure to pay for services rendered. Last Thursday, the day before SAG shut down "Nailed," Alexander Sandel filed suit against Bergstein and five affiliated production entities in L.A. Superior Court. The lawsuit outlines a series of loans totaling more than $4.5 million by Sandel, who used to run a DVD replication facility called Future Media Prods., to Bergstein and his entities beginning in early 2005. With interest, Bergstein owes Sandel more than $6.5 million, the lawsuit says.

It further accuses Bergstein of fraud and having victimized many lenders and investors including a former attorney. Vendors and filmmakers, some of whom have been having a difficult time getting paid since last fall, are also resorting to legal action as their hopes fade for payment. A few weeks ago, a vendor sued ThinkFilm for more than $100,000 owed for services dating back to last summer, and other vendors are also said to be preparing similar action. Alex Gibney, who wrote, directed and produced "Taxi to the Dark Side" for ThinkFilm, only recently got paid for his Oscar winning docu after lawyers threatened to take ThinkFilm into bankruptcy.

Vendors and filmmakers began comparing notes early this year on the awards circuit; more lawsuits are expected. ThinkFilm is also known to owe media outlets substantial amounts of coin. Its execs have apparently been blaming payment delays to Bergstein's decision to consolidate Capitol's London office and ThinkFilm's Toronto outpost to L.A., where he is based. Bergstein casts some of these delays as a byproduct of ThinkFilm's earlier financial woes.

"I come from a distressed asset background not the film business," Bergstein said. "When you're dealing with any distressed asset, whether it's a single film or a company, it takes you the first year just to straighten out those issues. You can't have problems for five years and expect them to go away in five minutes." However, the vendor suing ThinkFilm said it had always paid its bills in the past -- eventually.

Bergstein acquired ThinkFilm and Capitol in 2006, and attempted to purchase homevid specialist Image Entertainment in March 2007. That deal ultimately fell apart after several delays, resulting in lawsuits on both sides.

He said the consolidation was always part of the plan, noting that little of ThinkFilm's coin came from Canada and the cost of doing business is ridiculous for a U.S.-based company. "We're not developing European movies. We're developing U.S. movies," Bergstein said. "By moving the core business to Los Angeles, we've reduced our overhead by 60%. When we acquired Capitol, the office in Los Angeles had 3 people. Today we have a total 40 employees."

Bergstein claims that SAG's shut-down of "Nailed" had less to do with a lack of coin than the fact that the project's bridge financier, the Footprint Film Fund, defaulted on its payment after principal photography began. That move put him in conflict with SAG over the subordination of the debt financing.

"We had fully escrowed the salary of the two leads and left significant deposits with SAG. This dispute was something beyond money. It was to do with the structure of the financing." Production has since resumed on the David O. Russell political comedy, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel. Capitol hopes that "Mary, Queen of Scots," starring Scarlett Johansson, finally will go into production this summer after a number of delays, but helmer Phillip Noyce has withdrawn from the project. Capitol is also coping from brain drain: A clutch of key execs have ankled in the past few weeks, including co-managing director Nick Hill, sales director Sofia Neves and development head Ed Clarke.

Of course it is, for serious and talented actors like Bale who work hard on their career but not so for such as Jake and Reese who sit on their bum and plot all day long how to deceive people and how to make it via rags. Work on your acting instead, fools!

Out "Degrassi" actor Adamo Ruggiero set to host a kids' talent search show

Just a few months after coming out as a gay man to the press, Degrassi: The Next Generation star Adamo Ruggiero has a new gig: he'll be hosting a talent show on the youth-oriented network YTV this summer. The Next Star will show six kids attending a "star school", eventually giving the audience the chance to determine the winner.

Last year we were impressed to see the BBC make openly gay and bawdy-tongued John Barrowman the host of a kid-focused program (with kids as contestants and meant for a general audience) and here we have YTV making an openly gay man the host of a show squarely aimed at young viewers.

True, Ruggiero seems like a much easier sell as he is already familiar with kids from playing gay Marco on the immensely popular Degrassi, and not ... say, a horny time-traveler who sleeps with his staff. But much like with The Kids are All Right we can't imagine a US net putting an openly gay man front and center on a family program like this. And so much for coming out killing your career, huh? Go Canada!

Same-sex marriage legal in California! RIGHT ON!

Gay Marriage Victory In California!

Boy, oh boy! Things are probably hectic in California right now, where the Supreme Court ruled 4-3 that Proposition 22, a ban on gay marriage, is unconstitutional. That’s the good news, of course. The bad news is that the court also ruled that San Francisco “acted unlawfully by issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in the absence a judicial determination that CA statutes limited marriage to union between a man and a woman are unconstitutional.” The 2004 marriages would thus be nullified, but who cares? Now they can have another wedding!

Here’s a choice bit of the 172 page ruling: “In contrast to earlier times, our state now recognizes that an individual’s capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual’s sexual orientation, and, more generally, that an individual’s sexual orientation — like a person’s race or gender — does not constitute a legitimate basis upon which to deny or withhold legal rights.

We therefore conclude that in view of the substance and significance of the fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship, the California Constitution properly must be interpreted to guarantee this basic civil right to all Californians, whether gay or heterosexual, and to same-sex couples as well as to opposite-sex couples.”

URGENT! Jake & Jessica Sidelined Again: IATSE Shuts Down David O. Russell Film

EXCLUSIVE: I'm told that, this time around, it's IATSE who has put the screws to the Capitol Films indie film Nailed because its crew members weren't being paid. The pic's union members had been begging IATSE for weeks to get involved over all the payroll irregularities. Friday was supposed to be the deadline set for the crew to get paid since there was a promise of a loan being made by then.

But IATSE apparently lost its patience with all the smoke-and-mirror promises so today the union ordered its crew to walk off the production. (Most have lost three weeks' worth of pay.) This also means director David O. Russell and stars Jake Gyllenhal and Jessica Biel are sidelined yet again since this is the second shutdown since the pic began shooting April 15th and was halfway through principal photography in Columbia, South Carolina. The first time was when the Screen Actors Guild told the actors to walk off the film because cash-crunched Capitol Films had made insufficient deposits with the thesp union. This also doesn't bode well for other Capitol Films currently shooting or about to start shooting. What a mess... Since I have to take a personal day today, I will have much more coverage of Capitol Films tomorrow...

'Nailed' shuts down production again

Production of "Nailed," starring Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal, has been shut down for a second time due to financial problems as below-the-line crews refused to work Thursday. Members of the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical & Stage Employees were ordered by IATSE leaders not to show up at the South Carolina set after not being paid.

Capitol Films, which is financing the political comedy, was not immediately available for comment. IATSE also would not comment but a source familiar with the situation said production's expected to resume today.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi to Marry

The first high-profile couple to take advantage of California's big Supreme Court decision yesterday, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi announced they're getting married during the taping of Ellen's show yesterday.

TMA reported last night: "A spy in the audience of this afternoon's taping of the 'Ellen DeGeneres Show' tells us that after Ellen mentioned today's California Supreme Court ruling striking down the state's ban on gay marriage, she surprised everyone and announced that she was going to tie the knot with longtime girlfriend, actress Portia de Rossi. Portia was in the crowd and after she made the announcement, the studio audience went wild, giving the two a huge standing O."

The show will air today

"Variety reports Day-Lewis would handle the role of Guido Contini, and would replace Javier Bardem - who dropped out of a planned fall start due to exhaustion from work and the awards season.

His women will be played by Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench. The original stage musical took its inspiration from the Fellini film "8'." It was adapted for the screen by Michael Tolkin and had a rewrite by Anthony Minghella. [1] A spokesman for distributor The Weinstein Co. denied that a new lead had been set. What an exciting prospect, though! Day-Lewis is famously selective about the roles he chooses, which means it's safe to assume that he was impressed by the elements that have been brought together. Those elements include: (1) script by Michael Tolkin, re-written by Anthony Minghella shortly before he died; (2) a fabulous cast of women, led by Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench (as Elisabeth Rappe reported recently), but also Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and Sophia Loren; (3) director Rob Marshall. I know that Marshall isn't universally loved -- I'm not a fan of Chicago -- but presumably he has some kind of dazzling vision that inspires confidence among actors with hidden musical talents. If he takes the part, Day-Lewis would play Guido Contini, "a famous film director who experiences personal and creative crisis while trying to balance all the women in his life."

The tabloids are interested in scandal, relationships, weddings, babies and divorces. Reese would have no covers without one of the above. Ryan helped her get plenty of press with the scandal and divorce. Now she needs Jake to keep the coverage going and to make it look as though the whole Ryan fiasco had no effect on her remarkable self.

Lindsay Lohan May Be A Lesbian, And She Doesn't Care Who Knows It

Celebrity lesbian scandal! Are those hickeys on Sapphic DJ Samantha Ronson's neck? And were they given to her by her musty old best friend, actress Lindsay Lohan? The pair, joined at the hip of late, was in Paris over the weekend, and close up photos like the one above have, of course, surfaced and people are, of course, in some sort of tizzy. The real thing to note about this, though, is how "meh" the whole Lohan camp has played it through all this speculation.

During the whole "Lindsay Ronson" Facebook reveal and the earlier "Get...away from my girlfriend" brouhaha, the freckled scarecrow never really made a peep, to deny or otherwise. Unlike her male counterparts, like former boybander JC Chasez and his possible roommate/lover Chace Crawford (from Gossip Girl, natch), who doth protest too much, it's (can't believe I'm going to say this) almost admirable that Lohan has chosen to take the high road on this one. Of course, she could just be a crazy person who doesn't have any sense of how to handle her PR and her career (this is very, very likely). Or! She's an almost-cool "eh, fuck it" lesbian-type. That would be a fun development in the mostly tired Lohan saga, no?

David O Russell gets Nailed again

Poor old David O Russell. While we’re not sure many of the thesps he’s worked with (George Clooney?) would sympathise, the I Heart Huckabees director is having the worst luck with his latest film, Nailed. The movie - which stars Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal – has been shut down for a second time in as many weeks as the money ran dry and the production crew refused to work after not getting paid.

Fortunately, like the previous speed bump (which was due to the Screen Actors’ Guild not receiving enough money to pay the thesps on board) it sounds like this will only be a temporary setback. We can’t wait for the DVD behind-the-scenes documentary. Or at least some footage leaked to YouTube…

Variety is passing around a hat.

Most of the general public don't know who Jake is. Some believe in Reeke others just don't care. But almost all of them go to see movies that they think are good. not just because Jake or Reese is in it. The only people who go to see a movie just to see Jake are his fans. "Chad Allen, 32, saw his life and career turned upside down in 1996. He was appearing as a regular on the series Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, when photos of him and a man he had been secretly dating appeared in The Globe tabloid. "It was a big nightmare. My family didn't even know. It was terrifying."

A meeting was called among managers, agents and network executives, he says. "They basically stared at me and said, 'What, are you going to be gay now? Do you want us to get you a girlfriend? What do you want?'" Allen, being "a scared kid," opted to "shut up and hope it would go away." After Dr. Quinn was canceled, CBS would not see him for any more pilots, he says. "It had a definite effect."

He still gets work but often in gay roles. His Save Me gay-themed film screened at Sundance, and he stars as a gay detective in a series of television movies for the gay Here network. He also has played straight characters on such series as Cold Case, Criminal Minds and Charmed.

Allen advises his gay closeted actor friends to come out only "when it's 'the good news' for you. But if you're not ready, then it's your journey."

"Can't believe Jake would be stupid and desperate enough to actually marry Reese just to get better public perception. "

He isn't stupid enough to marry her for that reason, but he's certain stupid enough to look like he wants to. Ignore his lame denials. All of rumor management is serving a greater purpose.

They are trying to distract us from the Nailed fiasco. God, Jake's pr people must be really worried about his career. PoP and the unnamed moon movie project are not firm, his family life is a mess, and Nailed is a disaster in the making. They are grabbing at anything to change the story.

This engagement nonsense, which is being stoked by Jake's pr people, is like dangling a shiny red ball in front of a cat, hoping to distract it from a large truck rolling down the street.

Don't fight, there's enough beverages for all. lol

I posted this before! I think Jake and Reese are dating for real. Ted C. blew what he saw out of proportion. The attention he and Jake got out of it was welcome to both of them. The tabloid reading public knows he's with Reese. A lot of online fans think he's gay and Reese is his beard. He is talked about, which is a plus! What he just needs now is his upcoming movies to be well received. That's what we'll see!
I do also agree with posters who say he and Reese are very image oriented people. That's why he probably made decisions that some fans view as insensitive.
I wonder how long Reeke will last and whether they'll get married or not?

Wave to the deluded trolley everyone.

So 2:04, if I'm the only one who doesn't like the current, Reeking Jake, why did no one turn up for Rendition?

I don't think Jake should be compared to Reese in the image oriented department - he might be bad, but he's not THAT bad. There is a good reason to pretend to be straight in Hollywood.

The part about the tabloid readers doesn't make sense.

Has anyone read the "Hollywood Babylon" books. There is a new book coming out soon. It was in the NY tabloids gossip section. It talks about Johnny Depp being hung. It outs some dead actors. Maybe someone can post a link.

" he and Reese are very image oriented people."

I completely agree with this.

Frontal assault on Hollywood

There are many ways to measure talent in Hollywood. But for the authors of "Hollywood Babylon: It's Back," size is everything.
Borrowing the title of filmmaker Kenneth Anger's classic scandal bible, authors Danforth Prince and Darwin Porter have dared to publish the pictures and stories too explicit and actionable for even the pulpiest supermarket tabloids.

Among those featured in full-frontal shots are Mick Jagger, Daniel Radcliffe, Ewan McGregor, John Malkovich, James Woods, Richard Gere and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. We leave it to you to decide whether all the snaps are authentic.
The authors also write about the reputed size of many other stars in the book, due June 1. Johnny Depp was known as "donkey d-", they say. Sean Connery posed nude for art studies, and one student said:"It was the biggest I've ever seen. It made me drop my charcoal pencil."

Dishing with abandon, the authors spare no one - especially not the dead, who can't sue. Lack of sources don't stop them from claiming:
Marilyn Monroe had an affair with Ronald Reagan. The authors also claim Monroe had a tryst with Joan Crawford but refused to make it an ongoing affair. "She had bad breath," Monroe allegedly told roommate Shelly Winters. "Besides, she wanted to do things to me that no woman should do to another woman."

James Dean showed a disconcerting interest in a 12-year-old boy in the early 1950s. Director Elia Kazan believed the tale: "I've known many actors who have been twisted up in their sex lives, but never anybody as sick and unhealthy as Dean was."
Elvis Presley had a gay old time with Nick Adams, who played Johnny Yuma in the hit TV series "The Rebel."

Lucille Ball launched herself into show business as a hooker, and her husband Desi Arnaz had a fling with Cesar Romero.
Cary Grant had an incestuous relationship with his stepson, Lance Reventlow.
Sir Winston Churchill got "musical" with actor and songwriter Ivor Novello.
Strange things happened to Judy Garland's body (this in the chapter on "Fan Worship and Necrophilia").

Police believed Bette Davis killed her second husband, Arthur Farnsworth, by hitting him on the head and causing a hemorrhage that lead to his death two weeks later. But a grand jury - six men who confessed to being ardent fans - found her innocent.

I meant they know he's with a woman and assume he's straight!

I think he's bi!

Even if Jake is straight - that doesn't make Reeke a real relationship.

James Dean was a pedophile? Yuck!

6:03.. what must be most humiliating for Jake and Reese with all this is not the that people are questioning whether theyre real or not, rather that people cannot be bothered to vote for them either way.

Hardly the buzzy couple they thought they would be are they.

A Shadow Of His Former Self

Boo. Remember the good ol' days when the sight of Jake Gyllenhaal (usually shirtless or spandexed) would inspire Le Sighs and Woot!s left and right? It seems like an awfully long time since that was the case. ...

I hope what's going on with Jake this isn't what happened with Chad Allen. :(

That Hollywood Babylon book will be interesting to read for sure. I'll look for it on june 1st. I remember the former ones were very good too. Sad to read that about Dean, though. I did like the bit about Elvis and his affair with Nick Adams. Always thought Elvis was bisexual.

A meeting was called among managers, agents and network executives. "They basically stared at me and said, 'What, are you going to be gay now? Do you want us to get you a girlfriend?'"

Is this about Chad Allen or Jake Gyllenhaal?

Anonymous said...

hahahahah applies to both!!

Anonymous said...

I think Jake is defintely bi. Why do so many people have a problem with him being bi?

Anonymous said...

I don't think people do. The inspiration for this blog, and its predecessor, had a girlfriend then a boyfriend. He was going to come out as bi. With his boyfriend.

The inspiration for this blog and it's predecessor had/has two beards and a boyfriend. He is gay.

"I think Jake is defintely bi. Why do so many people have a problem with him being bi?"

simply many here can't stand the idea he could love a woman so they claim he is exclusively gay.

But yeah Ted said he loved sincerely his first girlfriend and then he loved a boy.
i think he is bi too
