Becoming a father led to another life-changing decision for Clay Aiken, 29, the American Idol runner-up whose awkward charm, flat-ironed red hair and soulful sound inspired a curious and deeply devoted cult of music fans who call themselves Claymates. Long dogged by rumors about his sexuality, Aiken decided the time had come for him to publicly acknowledge what he's known privately since he was in college: He's gay.

If someone asked me today, "Ricky, what are you afraid of?" I would answer "the blood that runs through the streets of countries at war...child slavery, terrorism...the cynicism of some people in positions of power, the misinterpretation of faith." But fear of my truth? Not at all! On the contrary, It fills me with strength and courage. This is just what I need especially now that I am the father of two beautiful boys that are so full of light and who with their outlook teach me new things every day. To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids were born with.

Regarding Jake and Heath, I really don't think there was anything more than friendship going on there.
Yes, there's pics where they look adoringly at each other, but friendship is a kind of love too and if you care for someone it usually shows in your eyes.
They went through something special making BBM together and I bet that created a strong bond. I imagine it was more of a "bromance" that a romance.
I don't see anything strange in Jake not talking to the media about Heath. Why should he? It's something very private and he has no obligation to tell the world about their relationship. The reason he gave for not talking about it sounded genuine enough to me.

I guess I don't understand why people in general think they have the right to tell someone how they should live. It's very easy to judge Jake for not coming out when you're not in his shoes. I wish we lived in a more tolerant world and perhaps we're slowly getting there. I live in a country where being gay isn't that big a deal, but I guess things are different in the US.

I want to add, independantly of what you believe about jake, I think some here live with odd and "cliche" in their mind. I don't how american people behave ( surely prudely) but I can say to you in south culture ( europe and afrique) men aren't afraid to show their affection for each others without seeming "suspicious".

I'm not 6:26, but the second picture is not from the movie. It's a candid shot taken on the set. Heath is sitting in one of the "director's chairs" that the actors, etc. use. You're not looking at Jack and Ennis - it's Jake and Heath.

Well, it seems to be the showmance that bugs people the most. Is it because you feel he's let his fans down or that he's not true to himself? Always interesting to hear people's views.
Here's how I see it: I hope he stays true to himself, but if he don't, there's not much I can do about it. That sort of thing has to come from him, usually happens as you grow older and mature. I'm certainly not gonna judge him or think less about him, not that I'm saying that you are. He's still an amazing actor even if he makes some wrong moves...and hey, who among us doesn't slip from time to time? LOL!

You're welcome :) I don't think Jake or any actor "owes" fans anything other than a good performance in his movies, so my objection to bearding has nothing to do with fans or their feelings. And while I wish for everyone to be true to themselves because that is a healthy way to live, I can't decide that for anyone and I'm not trying to decide that for Jake. However, putting on a showmance sends a message that being gay is something to be ashamed of and that I cannot support. It's quite different from simply staying in the closet - it is actively selling the idea that being heterosexual is the only acceptable way to live your life.

I strongly disagree with your use of the word witch-hunt. There are many, many, many gay people who deserve our sympathy and concern, but Jake is doing just fine. He has money, fame, a career most people would give anything to have, a loving and close family and lots of friends. As for what he has done for the gay community - I agree that Brokeback was groundbreaking and I give all involved a lot of credit - Jake and Heath especially. But the Jake who made Brokeback and was so open in speaking about his support for the gay community and about sexuality is long gone.

He has not said he is gay. Even if he is, you would have to wait until he confirms it to try and demand that he do other things for gay rights. Are you aware of this big part of the scenerio?

First review praises 'Inception,' but raises box-office doubts
Besides that notorious interview with General McChrystal, the new issue of Rolling Stone also features the first review I've seen anywhere of Christopher Nolan's "Inception,'' perhaps the most anticipated movie of the season.
Peter Travers' 3 1/2 star review isn't on the magazine's website yet, so I'm going to quote his first lengthy paragraph:
"The mind-blowing movie event of the summer arrives just in time to hold back the flow of Hollywood sputum that's been sliming the multiplex. That seems to me as Peter's polite way of predicting this expensive movie starring Leonardo Di Caprio, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon Levitt may play be too smart to rack up numbers anything like "The Dark Knight.'' But he sure makes it sound intriguing.

Millions of healthy and wonderful animals are not being adopted at shelters and, consequently, are being euthanized (a fancy word for killed, just to make humans feel better about the horrors they're doing) every year. A sneak peek of James Franco’s solo exhibition at the Clocktower Gallery in NYC
Tonight, James Franco’s first solo art show opens at the Clocktower Gallery in New York City. In a recent review of the show, the Wall Street Journal called it a “sort of creative schizophrenia” and now that we’ve had a sneak peek we can understand why.
One of our readers, Denise, stopped by the gallery this afternoon and caught a preview of the show which includes a video of Franco wearing a prosthetic penis on his nose and another display with said prosthetic under glass.

The exhibit, entitled “The Dangerous Book Four Boys” incorporates sculpture, photography, drawing, film and video all of which centers on ideas of boyhood and the sexual awakening of the early teenage years.
The Clocktower Gallery, a nonprofit exhibition space, is located at 108 Leonard Street in Tribeca and is open daily from noon to 5 pm.

Then, even though Jake was supposedly "blindsided" by Vienna's revelations to Star, he still was quick enough on his feet to land his own cover story in People magazine, even though he was still in Atlanta shooting his new guest spot on Drop Dead Diva.
I have to ask you all -- if you were breaking up with your fiancé, would your first instinct be to sell the story about your most intimate problems, like your lack of a sex life, to a national magazine? Now keep in mind that Jake isn't accused by Vienna of cheating on her -- so she didn't even have betrayal, as an excuse for her highly public breakup attack on Jake.

Anna Paquin opens up about Moyer and her sexuality in Self
Now that “True Blood’s” Anna Paquin has been “initiated into the followed-by-paparazzi crowd,” as she told Self magazine in their July issue, she’s learned to care even less about what people think of her.
The breaking point for Paquin came when she was made fun of for wearing a helmet while riding her bike. “I was like, OK, that would be a really stupid reason to die,” she said. “At that point, I was done.”
Paquin's newly developed thicker skin also came in handy to deal with the aftermath of announcing that she's bisexual.
“I understand why it's a big deal to some people, but to me, it's not. I've probably always known I was bisexual,” she said. “I'm really lucky; I grew up in an open-minded, supportive family, so my sexuality was never stigmatized or scary or out of bounds.”

^^ Yes I do. I think Jake and Heath both showed alot of bravery playing two gay men in one of the most high profile movies of it's kind. That's why most actors did not want any part of it. Especially knowing certain scenes they would have to do. Then he dealt with the jokes, the ridicule and the bashing that was endless. Now he has to deal with gay fans like you who thinks they know everything about his life and ridicule it to no end because they want him to come out so they can say Jake is one of us. I don't care if he is gay, it's his choice to come out if he is.
And you know what, there are young gay kids out there that have more balls than this guy and take more shit off people - and still stand up and refuse to hide themselves away.

Instead of complaining about Jake to come out and be the gay poster boy savior, you ought to see if the out gay stars have programs to help young youths. I know some of them don't. Some are helping. You should put more interest in yourself helping those gay kids and teens. Complaining about Jake does not help this issue you so adamately seem to be focused on and concerned with.
Can Kevin Spacey help? How about Queen Latifah? Jodie? Wentworth Miller? All have speculations about being gay just as Jake. Vin Diesel? He would do wonders showing folks you can be a leading man, kick butt and be masculine and gay. You do know he has gay rumors and some think he should come out also don't you.
