Father's Day

Clay Aiken and Parker
Clay Aiken

October 2008

Becoming a father led to another life-changing decision for Clay Aiken, 29, the American Idol runner-up whose awkward charm, flat-ironed red hair and soulful sound inspired a curious and deeply devoted cult of music fans who call themselves Claymates. Long dogged by rumors about his sexuality, Aiken decided the time had come for him to publicly acknowledge what he's known privately since he was in college: He's gay.

Says Aiken: "It was the first decision I made as a father. I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things. I wasn't raised that way, and I'm not going to raise a child to do that."

Ricky Martin, Matteo and Valentio
Ricky Martin

December 2008

"I’m going to concentrate on becoming a better, stronger, more complete person. All throughout my career — a career I’ve pursued since I was twelve — I have had to make sure to please people and ensure that people were happy with the things I was doing. At this moment, though, I’m focusing on what makes me happy. My sons are happy and they’re going to grow up being sure of themselves. When they ask a question, they will always receive an answer given with the utmost honesty and sincerity. They’re not going to feel ‘different,’ because there are hundreds — thousands — of children all over the world who are raised solely by their mothers or only by their fathers. I’m choosing to focus on the light, not the dark.

I always knew a wanted to be a father. I have such happy childhood memories of my own dad, and I thought it was important to share that kind of love with children of my own.

I felt a real need to see myself reflecting in my children’s eyes, that’s why I decided to go with a surrogate. It was the best option for me at this point in my life. There are people who think that science and medicine don’t go with God, but I see art and God’s hand in each and every one of my sons’ movements, in each smile and every cry. This whole process has been a spiritual one for me. Becoming a parent has been a blessing."

March 29, 2010

If someone asked me today, "Ricky, what are you afraid of?" I would answer "the blood that runs through the streets of countries at war...child slavery, terrorism...the cynicism of some people in positions of power, the misinterpretation of faith." But fear of my truth? Not at all! On the contrary, It fills me with strength and courage. This is just what I need especially now that I am the father of two beautiful boys that are so full of light and who with their outlook teach me new things every day. To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids were born with.

  2. Jake said about Matilda "I see Matilda each time i can when she come to L.A. with her mother".
Jake said about Ramona "I would do anything for her. I try to see her as much as possible. And i go out of my way to do that" you see the difference? I think Jake and Michelle are in good terms but not close. Matilda is the only reason they see each others.

I agree. I don't see Jake go out of his way to see little M. I know some don't particularly like Michelle, but it is obvious she makes an effort to keep in touch with her L.A. based friends, so they can also see Matilda.

  12. Box office update: 'Toy Story 3' on fire; 'Jonah Hex' bombs

Here’s a lesson for the movie studios: You can make a sequel 11 years after its predecessor as long as the story is great and the characters are so beloved that earlier generations are still attached to them. That’s what Disney-based Pixar did with the third chapter in the Toy Story franchise. Toy Story 3 grossed an estimated $41 million Friday night, suggesting that many of those 20-somethings who watched Toy Story 2 when they were in elementary school came back to the franchise to see its latest chapter. Now Buzz Lightyear and Cowboy Woody are destined for Pixar’s record books, with the highest-opening ever for a Pixar movie. Based on the Friday numbers, Toy Story 3 could earn as much as $120 million for the three-day frame. (The studio’s previous opening-weekend record was $70 million for Finding Nemo in 2003.)

That’s the good news. The bad news is that Warner Bros.’ action Western Jonah Hex is a giant misfire. The Josh Brolin-starrer grossed approximately $2 million for a weekend that’s likely to wind up with only $6 million and a probable sixth place in the box office rankings. That is really bad. And it doesn’t bode well for the studio that released Splice earlier this month to paltry numbers too.

The rest of the top five will be dominated by holdovers, with The Karate Kid holding in fairly well considering its competition from Toy Story 3. The Jackie Chan-Jaden Smith starrer grossed an estimated $8 million on Friday for a weekend that should total $30 million, representing a 46 percent drop-off and a total cume that’s likely to reach over $100 million. The A-Team is in for a steeper fall, earning less than $4 million on Friday for a likely weekend total of $13 million. That represents close to a 60 percent drop for a movie that bowed last weekend to number’s beneath industry expectations. Shrek Forever After is likely to take fourth place with a bit over $2 million on Friday and a weekend total that should add up to over $8 million. Fifth spot goes to Get Him to the Greek which earned a bit under $2 million Friday night for a weekend that should reach $6 million for the frame.

Check back tomorrow for official results.

  17. Didn't Jim Sheridan say he saw Jake with Heath at Chateau Marmont? If it's true there's one sighting but who knows when that was.

According to Jim Sheridan he saw Jake with Heath more than once, imo it was around BBM filming&promo.

"I had talked to Tobey and Leonardo for a few years about making a movie together," recalls Sheridan. "Leo was off doing something and Jake, I had always met Jake at Chateau [Marmont] around the pool, a lot of the time with Heath [Ledger]."

Oh, ffs, the spill has non-stop media attention and engineers, scientists, oil experts, etc. from around the world are weighing in. A&S and their insipid tweets are pointless and don't do anything at all to actually solve the problem. You think some OTH fangirl is the one who's finally going to find the solution? LOL. And if they were really so committed to helping, they would make a donation without putting conditions on it. They are requesting as many followers as possible to get publicity for themselves. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I really don't think it's going to do that much for OTH.

    ReplyDelete
  86. They want to raise awareness of it. No, I don't think a fangirl will have the solution, unless she is a chemical engineer. At this point, she probably knows as much as anyone. This should never have happened, and I applaud A&S for taking an interest outside of their own lives. Let's be honest, I guarantee if J&A were doing it, you wouldn't accuse them of self-promotion. I don't think a little self-promotion is that big of a deal anyway, if someone is giving back in a big way. Look how many people are taking an interest simply because one of their favorite stars is involved, when perhaps they wouldn't have. Unless you want to tell me that everyone has this on the top of their priorities list. Not with the cars people drive. LOL

people are more impressed with your "looking at girls" than PoP, so I would suggest this as the next step.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Let's be honest, I guarantee if J&A were doing it, you wouldn't accuse them of self-promotion.

Seriously? Wow, do skip reading a lot of the posts here? Or are you new? This isn't a Jake fangirl site or an Austin fangirl site. If J or A made the same kind of absurd tweets saying they would make a donation if they got a certain number of people following them, you can bet people would accuse of them of self-promotion!! You don't think people accused Jake of self-promotion while he was bearding with Reese? I don't where you have gotten the idea that people don't think Jake is capable of self-promotion. That's hilarious. He's all about PR.

    ReplyDelete
  110. The fact that such a big deal is being made out of the Lakers game pics is pretty lame and pretty funny at the same time. All it does is bring more attention to the gay rumors - because otherwise people wouldn't give the pics a second thought.

lmao. Well, there ya go! Clay can't possibly be gay. He's obviously as straight as that other 100% heterosexual man, Ricky Martin.

And that's a good point - I imagine a 'candid' shot like that would cost considerably less than $200 mill :)

I was wondering about Shafterella Shoshstein. I understand ditching her faux romance the way she did was pretty rude, but is it uncommon for beards to have a serious side relationship? If the closeted celeb can have fun on the side why not the beard? My pup Teddy adores you!
    —Jersey

    Dear Play by the Rules:
Sure, S2 was definitely allowed to have a bit of loving on the side, so long as it didn't ruin the setup the two stars had, and that's what totally happened. Shafty ditched the poor gay dude without so much as a warning. Give Teddy a supersloppy kiss from me, ‘K?

Showmance is a business deal, not a relationship. Reese didn't fake a relationship with Jake because she liked him, she did that because Jake got her a lot of press. You can bet that Reese would never 'dump' Jake if she could use him more, during Brothers and PoP promotion time.

  123. I see the blanket Jaustinite poster is here again, and getting it all wrong as usual.

I would be just as annoyed and turned off if Jaustin was doing the same thing as Sophin. Well, maybe not quite as much, because I really doubt Jake would do what Sophia is doing and post at every celeb site that can be tracked down. That really pushes the whole thing to another level of crassness.

Oh how nice, we got Bonnaroo confirmation! lol

There was never any doubt that Sophia was there, way too many sightings of her. The question is whether Austin was there. I think if he'd been there they would have started tweeting sooner than they did and/or we would have gotten pictures on JJ. You really think Sophin, which looks to be every bit the media whore Reeke was, would pass that by?

    ReplyDelete
  124. There were Sophia and bf tweets. The chin is a bigger star with much bigger PR budget, so yes, it is possible that Austina and Sophia were there and we didn't get JJ post. As we can see from tweets, Austin and Sophia are working together on their PR so why wouldn't they go to Bonnaroo together?

    ReplyDelete
  125. JJ would post any picture of Sophia he could get his hands on, and you know it. JJ has posted fan photos before. The only explanation for a lack of photos is that Sophia didn't go with Austin and they didn't want that to be known. I'm sure Sophin could have found someone to snap some pictures without dragging a pap along.

I don't think so. You're forgetting that the guy who tweeted about Jake and Marcus lives in London and he makes no reference in his other tweets about being in Tenn at the festival. The tweet was from June 16, Mumford and Sons' concert at Bonnaroo was on June 12. Why would he wait 4 days to write something so generic? His tweet was most likely a comment on the pics of Jake and Marcus coming out of Lamill.

There was a BI written a few years ago that said about a colorful frontman being at heart a simple gay boy or something. Everyone thought it was Levine. Plus he hangs out with Jake which is akin to arriving at a PFLAG social event in a pumpkin carriage drawn by rainbow ponies.

  134. I read a couple of reports by people who saw Jake, Heath and Michelle together at a BBM Q&A, one said Jake and Michelle's eyes "only met at Heath" and the other that Michelle was the third wheel.

True. He had only eyes for Heath.

    example one

    example two

If Heath was alive Jeath fans would be looking for tweets, sightings, pics anything to see if/how often they hang out. Would have been fun. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Sophia and Austin already made a donation. They're trying to get more people to follow them while they post about their trip to the gulf where they will be assisting with the cleanup effort. If they get 50,000 followers, who they also hope will give of their time and money, they'll make an additional donation. Even if it's partially for self-promotion (and what isn't when it comes to celebrities), it's still more than Jake's doing going to concerts, games, and restaurants to find female asses to stare at.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Lots of sightings and pictures of Jake and Heath in NYC, but there were never any of them hanging out together, so don't know why that would be any different now if Heath was still alive. Either they didn't get together, or they were very careful to do it away from prying eyes.

Of course for all of those who insist no pictures of Jaustin means no relationship, that means Jake and Heath never saw each other.

    ReplyDelete
  137. 11:49 - People looked and looked for signs of Heath and Jake hanging out after BBM to no avail. There was no evidence that they spent any time together at all and that's when the paps were actually interested in Jake.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Even if it's partially for self-promotion...

It is just self-promotion - promotion of Sophin, OTH promotion and Sophia's attempt to get votes for her Teen Choice Award nomination.

    ReplyDelete
  139. There was no evidence that they spent any time together at all and that's when the paps were actually interested in Jake.

What friendship and spending time together have to do with paparazzi???

    ReplyDelete
  140. Jake/Heath - I think they didn't see each other very often (but when they saw each other, then behind closed doors), probably called each other regularly though.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I'm sure Jake and Heath did see each other often. Just like I'm sure Jake was spending a lot of time with Maggie, Peter, Ramona, Naomi and Stephen all those months and months when all we got were reeke sightings and paparazzi pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  142. So every celebrity who tries to do good and tweets about it or gets it covered by the press is doing it just for self-promotion? There's not one person out there who does anything out of a real concern?

  144. 12:20 don't be silly. at least auctioning off her surfboard will be for a good cause. it's still a lot better than doing nothing at all. the celebs who promote themselves by being seen out and about are all about self-promotion coupled with self-gratification.

  146. it's still a lot better than doing nothing at all.

  154. Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 3’ Is a Strong No. 1

    By BROOKS BARNES
    Published: June 20, 2010

To infinity and beyond may not be a stretch for Pixar’s “Toy Story 3,” which sold $109 million in ticket sales in North America over the weekend and is on track to deliver a total domestic gross of over $400 million, analysts said.

“Toy Story 3” entered the marketplace as a strong No. 1 — the 11th Pixar title in a row to achieve that feat. The result was Pixar’s best opening ever, even when adjusting for inflation.

Sales were big enough almost to wipe out an early-summer slump at the multiplex. Total domestic box office revenue since early May is now only down by less than 1 percent from the same period last year, according to Hollywood.com, which complies ticketing statistics. In recent weeks revenue had dipped by over 6 percent, leading to hand wringing in Hollywood.

If history is any guide, “Toy Story 3” will continue to dominate in the weeks ahead. On average just 23 percent of the total domestic gross for a Pixar film comes from opening weekend, according to Hollywood.com.

“The audience was much broader than normal,” said Chuck Viane, the president for distribution at Walt Disney Studios, whose parent company owns Pixar. “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a movie with such unbelievably positive word of mouth.” In limited release overseas “Toy Story 3” sold about $45 million.

Blissful reviews for the latest installment of the beloved “Toy Story” franchise may have helped persuade audiences to pay extra to see the film in 3-D. An outsize portion of sales, for example, came from the 180 Imax theaters playing the movie. Though only 2 percent of the cinemas showing the film were Imax, they still delivered 8 percent of the weekend gross.

Young adults, typically not a big audience for animated films, also played an important role. Disney said “Toy Story 3” drew 40 percent of its nonfamily audience from people ages 17 to 24: the group that grew up with Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the other characters from the franchise.

“Toy Story 3,” directed by Lee Unkrich, becomes the third movie to open to more than $100 million at the domestic box office so far this year. All three have been movies made under the Disney umbrella. The other two are “Alice in Wonderland,” which sold over $116 million in its opening weekend, and “Iron Man 2,” which opened to over $128 million.

The challenge for Disney, which bought Pixar in 2006, is to avoid flops in between blockbusters that diminish the financial impact of its megahits. After “Iron Man 2” came “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,” which should go down as one of the biggest failures of the year. The seesawing could continue: next up on Disney’s release slate is “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” a live-action fantasy starring Nicolas Cage that strikes many veteran movie marketers as a tough sell.

For the weekend “The Karate Kid” from Sony Pictures Entertainment continued to prove itself an audience favorite, selling about $29 million for second place and a new total of $106.2 million, according to Hollywood.com

“The A-Team” from 20th Century Fox was third with about $13.8 million and a new total of $49.8 million, while the comedy “Get Him to the Greek” from Universal Pictures was fourth with $6.1 million ($47.9 million total).

“Shrek Forever After” (a DreamWorks Animation title distributed by Paramount Pictures) was fifth with $5.5 million, bringing its total to $223 million.

  157. if they just wanted to self-promote they could have done so without going to the gulf as volunteers.

In that case only OTH fans would care.
By using the gulf crisis they are getting more attention and might actually talk other people into helping them get new twitter followers for OTH and other promo. Are you naive or you just love Austin and/or Sophia?

    ReplyDelete
  158. if they just wanted to self-promote they could have done so without going to the gulf as volunteers.

Not really. The gulf disaster is their hook. What were they going to 'promote' on their twitters - One Tree Hill, a corny soap that not many people watch? Their non-existent careers outside of OTH? Their fake romance?

    ReplyDelete
  159. Looks like PoP is officially a flop. I still can't believe that Jake and his handlers thought Reeking would help his image and PoP. What a waste of 2 years. I don't think Jake will ever get back the goodwill and interest that he had after BBM.

    ReplyDelete
  160. they could have promoted their interest in the gulf and their donations to the gulf without going there to volunteer. volunteering takes a certain level of commitment.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Only OTH fans care and know about Austin and Sophia. Taking a trip is their chance to be a bit interesting and to try to get some attention from Larry King and Ryan Seacrest telethon followers.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Either they didn't get together, or they were very careful to do it away from prying eyes.

I don't know about them not getting together despite the lack of sightings and pictures. Why, because Jake still seems pretty messed up about Heath's death, though I'm sure most will disagree that's my opinion. Would he be like that if they didn't spend time together after BBM, would he feel that way about the death of someone that was more a co-star/acquaintance?

It's been 2 years since Heath died and they knew each other only for twice as long, so if they weren't friends/close why would Jake still be weird about Heath and his death? I would think he should be over it by now in that case.

It is. There are still some people trying to spin it otherwise, talking about the foreign box office, etc. (which is better than U.S. but still not massive), it's still a flop. I think a lot of people aren't aware of the percentages - Disney only gets 40% of the foreign b.o and 50% of the U.S. b.o., and with a movie that cost $300 mill to make and promote, they have long way to go just to break even, never mind a profit.

  166. Support Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols!

Finally! Aside from that sexy Ian Somerhalder, we've been shocked at the lack of celebrity outcry about everything terrible that is happening down in the Gulf right now, to humans and sea creatures alike.

Larry King has called in some celebrity troops to help with a telethon tonight, but in comparison to, say, Haiti (obviously a valid cause), Hollywood hasn't exactly been quick to rally and do something about the terrible effects of BP's "mistake."

Enter Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols...

The happy couple are not so happy about the situation down south.

The two babes have been all over Twitter, trying to boost awareness about the level of devastation. Sophia and Austin are each trying to get 50,000 followers to make a big donation to Global Green. The two have already made several donations to the charity on their own and are in Grand Isle, La., as we type with Global Green's Mathew Peterson.

The only thing that would make their trip even better would be if Jake Gyllenhaal came along. Sophia and Jake were supposedly seen dining together at Pizzeria Mozza in L.A. Friday night, and three celebs are always better than one! How come J.G. didn't go along for the ride?

Oh well. Maybe next time? And be sure to tune into CNN tonight at 8 to watch Cameron Diaz, Justin Bieber and other Hollywood power players raise money for the Gulf.

Click here to donate, and don't forget to follow Sophia and Austin on Twitter and rally behind them!

  181. It may be good that they're publicizing the problem and trying to reach people that perhaps don't watch a lot of news, but the way they're doing it is also for pr, and some of this stuff just makes me cring.

For example, why are they asking people to tell Seacrest, etc. about their photos--and as if nobody else has being doing this. Rachel Maddow has been devoting a large portion of her show every night to what is going on, and was down there a couple of weeks ago and showing people what's happening. From what I've read the same is true of Cooper. If it was truly just about getting the word out, just post photos for their followers.

And wasn't Global Green down there weeks ago, instead of waiting until now. They're obviously down there trying to get some of the attention from the Larry King telethon too.

  182. There could be nuclear war, and all some of you would say was that it was promoting Austin and Sophia in some way, and to get the babies tile to a fallout shelter. lol

  183. It's more than getting the word out about what's happening, although that is important enough. It's getting people to think ahead about what we are going to do about the use of fossil fuels, which is rapidly becoming a crisis. The reason BP has cut corners and tried to get online asap, besides greed, is to satisfy the unrelenting demand for fuel by us.

  184. Of course Ted realizes the Mozza story may not be true, that's why he said Sophia and Jake were supposedly seen.

He's just using it as an excuse to bring up Jake.

We also don't know that tweet was false. Could be false, could be true.

  185. Does ted realize that the Jake/Sophia Mozza tweet was most likely false?

    Why would he care?
