The magazine has published a lengthy account of Oscar-winning screenwriter-director Paul Haggis's rejection of the religion, popular with many celebrities such as Travolta and Tom Cruise, due primarily to its support of the antigay Proposition 8 in California.
One of the people interviewed for the piece is True Grit star Brolin. In the article titled "The Apostate: Paul Haggis vs. the Church of Scientology," The New Yorker states:
Brolin says that he once witnessed John Travolta practicing Scientology. Brolin was at a dinner party in Los Angeles with Travolta and Marlon Brando. Brando arrived with a cut on his leg, and explained that he had injured himself while helping a stranded motorist on the Pacific Coast Highway. He was in pain. Travolta offered to help, saying that he had just reached a new level in Scientology. Travolta touched Brando’s leg and Brando closed his eyes. “I watched this process going on — it was very physical,” Brolin recalls. “I was thinking, This is really fucking bizarre! Then, after ten minutes, Brando opens his eyes and says, ‘That really helped. I actually feel different!’”
A representative for Travolta told The New Yorker that Brolin's story is “pure fabrication.”

Ah, good old Heath! ;) I read that he fucked behind Michelle's back too and behind Heather Graham's. Surprisingly I never heard that he cheated on Watts, except once he supposedly was flirting with ScarJo at an Oscar after party while with Watts. But that's all I've read/heard. About 5 minutes into the movie Heath Ledger and some woman who was definately not Michelle came in to the theater and sat in front of us. They made out heavily for most of the movie. I saw Heath Ledger go into an apartment building on West 19th St. on Monday at around 3 A.M. He was with a woman I didn't recognize. She was tall with brown hair, very pretty all around. They stopped and kissed before they went into the building. Judging by the kiss they have a great deal of passion for each other.

According to a source, the guys both tried on the same shades while shopping separately. Gyllenhaal was there first and was soft-spoken and friendly while browsing the frames, the source says.

Of course, Gyllenhaal's character falls for a beautiful woman (played by Bridget Monaghan) and tries to save her from her ultimate fate while solving the crime.
Sounds pretty intense to us.
The film - set to be released on April 1 - is one of the headlining films in the 2011 South by Southwest Film Festival set to start in March. You know Gyllenhaal will be there to promote the film, so book your tickets to Austin now!

I have benn wondering the same thing. Have Directors realized that Jake is just not that talented? Jake threw his stardom away. He wants fame and is lazy when it comes to developing his skills.

I think Jake is a good actor, unlike Bloom and others who have gone nowhere after early hits. But I think he has a somewhat limited range, and I think he is now perceived by the business as someone who can't put butts in the seats.
Also seems like a lot of the directors he's worked with recently have also not been at the top of their game, like Sheridan, Newell and Zwick, or have a reputation of being difficult to work for, like Russell--and the Fighter was a work for hire, not his own project unlike his earlier movies. Not sure what that says about Jake.

I think Jake is very aware that he doesn't put butts in seats. An interviewer brought up Jake's leading man status and Jake said he didn't see himself as leading man, to carry that title you have to deliver. That's what he said in a recent interview.
He needs a good supporting role and/or be part of a good ensemble.
Since BBM Jake hasn't got bad reviews but he hasn't got awful ones either. He has tried the leading man role and The Super Hero. Neither is going to win him an Oscar. Nope Jake is not going to put asses in the seats but a good movie will. I think Jake will have more success if he is patient and smart at picking his roles. He certainly needs to reevaluate and get some fresh advice. The advice he is getting now stinks.
Zodiac was an amazing movie, Brothers was fabulous but nobody showed for those films :( He does good movies but nobody shows! It really is a shame he does good work but to no avail. I hope it changes for him.

But perhaps this is what he wants - shooting a movie from time to time and otherwise enjoying his free time with doing nothing. When I saw him in BBM I thought he was an interesting intelligent guy but now I think he is just boring.

Jake got some good reviews for Zodiac, including from the NYT. I love that film, and so do most of the critics, but unfortunately like POP it was not marketed properly. Don't think Jake gets any blame for that film not doing well, particularly with RDJ in it.
I thought he was very good in Brothers, as did friends (i.e. not Jake fans) who saw it. But the movie itself was not very good.
“National Green Schools” - I love that project. If I were Jake, I would use my celebrity friends and acquaintances to get in contact with the First Lady and think of a way to do promo for "kids should eat healthy food" campaign.
For this Oscar year, I conducted my informal poll by phone or in person. So here are my findings to date: I am picking up some interesting trends. Not just the expected strong support for The King’s Speech (it’s real), but also a surprising amount of backing for The Fighter. I don't hold it against the beards. I've been a beard. He was a good friend and we hung out all the time anyway, so I was happy to help out. He never made it past a few video appearances and one TV show that eventually got canceled, but hey - we tried! It's the whole hollywood machine that is f*cked. I think a lot of people in the industry knew my friend was gay, but it wasn't an issue yet. No one REALLY cares until you start making money there, because then there is money to be made off you. That's when the "advice" starts. For someone who was sick when he got off that airplane late last week, Jake sure is getting around. He looked physically ill at the Three Sisters opening on February 3rd and there were several pictures of him hacking away and looking miserable on IHJ. Yet, we are to believe Jake was running around town going out to dinner, singing at the top of his lungs at some exclusive house party, staying up to 4:00 a.m, etc.
It's obvious that PR is trying to give the impression that he's a swinging single (non family) man on the prowl. It's easier that pairing him with another beard. Less demand on his free time.

At least that one was in Canada, so believable that Lainey would have sources there. I have no ides if Eddie Redmayne is gay, bi or straight but he was in a movie with Tom Sturridge (Robert Pattinson's alleged boyfriend) and they have so much chemistry. You can cut the sexual tension with a knife. And their characters aren't even gay. I wouldn't be surprised at all if something was going on between them during filming.

Two men and a woman. The one guy is kinda weird, he's not very friendly to me. The woman is ok, the third guy I don't work as closely with as the other two, but he's ok. The first month at work when I had questions they were annoyed by me. But I learned quickly, so now it's better.
It's kind of awkward sitting there and listen to them planning their evening after work and ignoring me. I don't know why they would snub me. Yes, I'm a bit shy, but I think I come off as nice and I'm open once I know people better.
