Ah, the apple trees, Blossoms in the breeze, That we walked among, Lying in the hay, Games we used to play, While the rounds were sung, Only yesterday, when the world was young.
We had only another 10 minutes, and there were some things I needed to talk to him about. For starters, Jake has rarely talked publicly about Heath Ledger’s death. I wasn’t sure if I’d get anything out of him, but I had to ask.
“A year ago, Entertainment Weekly spoke to a lot of people for a piece about Heath Ledger. The screenwriter, producer and cinematographer of Brokeback Mountain all talked. You were conspicuously absent. Are you uncomfortable remembering him in public?”
“Yes,” he said, pausing. “Brokeback was painful. Any time you go into pain, I don’t think you necessarily want to go back. But the results of that film, and how the public responded to it so hugely, were worth it. Walking through any kind of pain is usually worth it. As close as we all became making that movie, for all those other people, it didn’t extend much farther than [the movie itself], so that experience of work could be easily talked about for publications. The experience Heath and I had was also shared publicly with all the press and publicity we did. But what we shared as friends, though I respect the interest that so many people have in the mourning and grieving process and how it feels to other people, I feel like — and I don’t mean this in an unkind way — but I don’t think it’s anybody’s business but his and mine. So in that sense, to really respect him — and also the way he felt about his life and his private life and what he cared about, because he was a deeply caring and loving human being — every time anybody asks me any question about him, it would be like he was sitting next to me, and I know he would roll his eyes, because that’s the way he was. It was between us.”
If we didn’t talk about anything else, I knew I had something of consequence. And I was confident that what Jake had just said was as far and as deep and as sincere as he could go with this — you could feel the anguish in his words. So I moved on.

Jake losing his dear friend makes him someone who has a lot of life experience and he will put his sad emotions into his acting. He believed he could have done more to help Heath Ledger and prevent what had happened but he should not feel that way. I don’t know if Jake knew what Michelle Williams was doing with her lawyers going after Heath but even if he did he couldn’t stop it. She is scum. The main scums who should have called 911 are that masseuse and Mary Kate. I believe that masseuse knew much sooner than she was willing to admit that the paramedics should have been called and Heath Ledger would be with all of us today.
Actually, the main scums are the people who saw Heath deteriorate and did nothing to encourage him to go to rehab, take time off, stop taking drugs and partying. (Mary Kate would fall into this bracket but she has a lot of company). These are the people who enabled him--they're the main scums.
And lastly, Heath was no innocent here--he should have recognized that he needed help and thought about Matilda, being around to see her grow up. My brother was an addict too and what really helped clean him up was the realization that if he didn't, he wouldn't be around to see my nephews (his reason for living) grow up.
How do you know nobody tried to get Heath to get help? Have you ever known someone with problems? You can talk until you're blue in the face, but it's not going to to do any good if the person who has problems refuses to get help. Happens all the time. and if a person truly doesn't want to change, getting help does absolutely no good--look at Lohan.

Check out Anne Hathaway's box office history, even a crap movie like Bride Wars made some decent cash domestically and internationally together. She has actually a solid box office history. I think she'll think twice before working with Jake again. Jake, for a good looking, charming and solid actor, it's really surprising that he seems to be box office poison. We all know that Source Code will end up like LAOD. I think it's maybe good for Jake to take a break from acting for a while and rethink his career. Maybe do more supporting roles and more real indie movies?

Please, as if that is much. This movie is a flop, like all his others. BBM was a success because of the enormous buzz. Jake mistook that as him being a draw. Now he has seen that he is not. If he wants to stay in the public eye and can't with his movies, maybe it's better to follow Dunsts, Witherspoons and Swifts for a little attention. He is pathetic. I bet you his sister is ashamed of him even though she as a sis probably supports some of his moves. Either way, she has a good career w/o any need of publicity.

You are bitter, because he is failing on all accounts, no matter if you believe he's gay or straight. He became a failure. The MOST interesting thing about him, if you read reader comments on blogs, is his sexuality. No movies, charity etc., but his sexuality. If followers who are mainly interested in his sexuality and private life lose interest, he'll have even less people who give a fuck about him.
Jake like Josh harnett are not BO draws, his career reminds me of Harnett's.
The same With O. Bloom, he was lucky with LOTzr at POzTC only because he wasn't the star. LOTR was based on a beloved book with a cast of thousands and POTC was based on a Disney ride and Depp was the star.
Kingdom of Heaven was Bloom's Pop, and Elizabethtown was a flop. look how he disappeared after that. Blooms name was attached to Pop before Jake's, I guess he sensed another failure.
Natalie's movie NSA is benefiting from the BS buzz and the fact that it was the only new movie released this weekend.
Re. Heath. I've always had mixed feelings towards him. But what I respected was his acting talent and realistic pov regarding Hollywood and his career. He wasn't a B.O. draw either, but I think later in his career he didn't even want to. I remember a comment by Heath saying that BBM was a hit because of the buzz surrounding it. He was not delusional (like, I believe, his co-star). I respected that. What I wasn't a fan of were the reports of partying and womanizing ways even while in a serious relationship with a woman. What I know is that often when I saw pictures of him and Michelle they looked miserable together, very differnt to his pics with Naomi Watts. I can't claim to know what went on in his life and his relationship with Michelle, but Mr. Gilliam gave me an idea, even though people are torn whether to believe him or not, I tend to believe him.
This all said, TDK would have made Heath a star, he was again dating a hot, young model, had a healthy child... his future looked so bright. :(
12:34, NSA is a better rom-com than LAOD because NSA KNOWs it's a rom-com and sticks pretty much exclusively to that genre whereas LAOD did know what it was and pretensions of being something greater than its parts.
Natalie and Ashton have a kind of awkward chemistry--they're sweet together and have a nice rapport. They're not as "hot" as Anne and Jake (and their scenes aren't nearly as sexy or provocative) BUT their characters are a hundred times more sympathetic, likable and relatable. She's playing a good girl and he's playing a good guy--they're neither sleazy nor desperate. (I know Anne's character had a reason to act that way but other than her great boobs, I didn't understand why Jake was so interested in her considering what a one-dimensional bitch she was--here in NSA Natalie is a commitment-phobe but she's not a bitch)
Also, there's no sleazy brother--the two are surrounded by a greek chorus of friends but they're by and large well written and well played by good actors like Greta Gerwig, Ludacris, among others. Even Kevin Kline, a great actor, plays Ashton's fading TV idol father.
Bloom was offered the role of Dastan and he turned it down, it's not a secret. The BS about Newell wanting him for the part is BS, he wasn't even attached to the project when they were casting the lead, I think Michael Bay was.
Jake was on a short list of actors that included Bloom, Ben Barnes and James McVoy.
It would n=make sense that Bruckheimer wanted Bloom considering he was in POTC.

I'm planning on seeing Nanny McPhee. It's gotten good reviews. And yes, Maggie IS a cute woman. Very cute. Most don't see it, because they hate her too much. She's also a decent, watchable actress imo.

This argument is the problem with Jake's career. No doubt, those lettuce eating rodents who still make their comfortable livings spinning their tales about Straight Jake are probably still spoon feeding the guy this easily digestable pablum. Jake's career has tanked because of HIS decisions. HIS performances. HIS lack of imagination and unwillingness to see that what people always liked about Jake was HIMSELF. It wasn't the fans, it was his handlers and "advisors" who convinced him to sell out. That he couldn't be himself and have a successful career. They transformed him into a caricature of what they thought a movie star looked like. Unfortunately, there's no longer any flesh on the bones or blood in his veins. Just a shallow, unapproachable publicity whore. At least, that is what he has been presenting to the public since he entered the closet in 2007.
I'm sure he's the same sweet, kindhearted and charming guy with his friends and family. But, he isn't with the public. The problem is you can't have any kind of career with that kind of disdain for your customers. And, in civilian terms that is what Jake's audiences are. Jake walks around on eggshells now because he allowed himself to be put into a position of weakness. Afraid of what people will ask. Afraid of what people might say or do. Fear is never a becoming attire. It eats at your guts and transforms who you are.

I believe Austin and Jake are still together. Jake actually even made a point of being photographed with Nichols after the premiere of PoP in late May (with Austin's beard pushed into the background) and the OMG crowd discovered a photograph of him with Jake in Leadville back in late August. Evidently, one of the runners at the event, put it on the blog and no one noticed Austin until October. There's a few naysayers who say that isn't him, but the pic is pretty clear.

Boy, you know what's so ironic about this statement? Jake is considered to be gay by more people now than he ever was before he went into a deep closet. Even during the press for Brokeback Mountain, I don't remember people openly talking about Jake being gay. Sometimes I would hear that folks thought he might play for both teams, but not constant buzz about him being a liar and hypocrite. Or, constantly pointing out that he was an obvious tabloid phony who's just desperately trying to push himself as being straight. People aren't as stupid as Hollywood elites think they are.

OT, I was talking to a couple of friends tonight who are avid film buffs. I haven't read anything, but they said that Zachary Quinto and that movie he produced is getting incredible buzz at Sundance.
A fair number of fans still thought Jake was straight until the Swift photo ops. So blatantly staged that his gayness and bearding could no longer be ignored.

LOL @ Jake Franco, but IA. See, I don't find Franco to be a better actor than Jake, but that man works hard and his ass off, something Jake doesn't, instead seems more interested in tabloid crap.
If you ask me, the best young actor is Gosling, hands down. But unlike Franco he is not as conventionally handsome to become a mainstream star. JMO.
Gosling is the best young actor of his generation, I agree. He may not be conventionally handsome like Franco or Jake but---have you seen Blue Valentine?--he's VERY hot. I was shocked by how hot I found him. Whoa!
I think Ryan's butt is a little too big. :D I don't think Jake is conventionally good looking either. He's more good looking than Gosling (obviously), but Franco is def. a conventionally good looking guy. With Ryan and Jake (to a lesser extent), I was like why do people find them attractive, but then I saw it with Jake. With Franco it's kinda really obvious. That said, I'm not a big Franco fan. But I appreciate his work ethic.
What keeps Jake from being conventionally good looking is his longish face. Ang Lee said it was difficult to shoot Jake, he needed to find the right angle.
And he should stop wearing full beards, stubble is good, but a full beard makes him look older and less attractive. I get he wants to be taken seriously and thinks a beard will do, but good work and staying out of tabloids would be the much better method. ;)
If you look at the LAX pics Jake is smirking-like he's saying mission accomplished. I agree that he should put more effort into his career instead of showmances and photo ops. After the whole Swift thing and now the 2 day Nashville trip, most of the Internet can't even take him seriously. I think it's ashame that an actor who I thought was so good looking, charming and talented has become a parody of himself. I hope he doesn't further embrarass himself by following Swift all over during her tour. That would make him look even more pathetic.

Please, Jake had proven extremely well that he stay out of sight when he wants too. He left LA and went to Nashville and there wasn't any pics. He spent Dec in NYC and there were no pap pics. Jake is only "caught" in pap pics when he wants to be. Also the above post was stated as a supposition, not as a fact.
I must admit that Natalie and Ashton look good togher. What bothered me about Jake and Anne is that Anne is just too tall for Jake. Jake is tall enough with 6 feet, but Anne looks better with a guy who is 6 feet 2 for instance. I like it when a woman is petite and a guy tall. Ashton and Natalie is a cute combo.

Jake has a movie to promote and the beard is working - PR changed their minds and decided to continue with 5-6 months of "keep them guessing" bullshit?
Perhaps they aren't pap pics, but taken by a fan/passerby. They look like stills from a camera phone video. Then again, maybe that's what we are supposed to think lol.
I especially liked these comments because I feel the same way:

Most posters here think Jake is gay and hiding his sexuality while bearding. Some say it's because of the "showmances??". Most are here because of Ted's (blind Items which points to Jake, which also started off saying Jake was bisexual). Some are here because they intuitively think he's hiding something, his sexuality.
Well I was also interested in Ted's rumors and followed them until I had a flash of reality and started to think for myself and see how some of his reason and other sh-t sounded just like "for entertainment purposes only". Although, In the beginning of followning JG I felt something was different about him just as most do, this did peak my interest.
Since then I have heard of many Hollywood young and old male stars who are in the closet. I believe some, I know this does and can happen, I also know there is more than what we see and more to these things than we know.
So many of the men, especially the young one's with the rumors have gotten married and some have a child or children now. (Orlando Bloom - Many rumors of he and the guy from LOTR) Both married with kids. I know the rationale that they can still be in the closet, True.
But, Some may not be and it can just be rumors! Also, Some can be bi-sexual men, young and old who don't want to, or will not come out as bisexual. In the closet bisexuals. LOL It happens Wayyyy more than the avaerage person realizes.
There will always be those who will considered these men as gay no matter what, and I think this is part of some of what we have seen with these guy, maybe Jake. Most of these guys will have girlfriends and maybe get married with children. So you will see them with the opposite sex and if attention points towards anything other than straightness, they will (act out) as being nothing other.
Point is, most of the stars with gay rumors are probably bisexual to some degree. Yes, some are Gay and some might be totally str8.
I see Jake as probably being bi with no interest in speaking on it openly, NOW. Then going the route of most like him. Even Heath Ledger briefly had some bi rumors. Most of the truly (totally GAY) - (Matt Bonner and guy from Heros and Star Trek) stars will stay single and live in plain site. And, they don't and Won't speak on it!

ReplyDeleteJake losing his dear friend makes him someone who has a lot of life experience and he will put his sad emotions into his acting. He believed he could have done more to help Heath Ledger and prevent what had happened but he should not feel that way. I don’t know if Jake knew what Michelle Williams was doing with her lawyers going after Heath but even if he did he couldn’t stop it. She is scum. The main scums who should have called 911 are that masseuse and Mary Kate. I believe that masseuse knew much sooner than she was willing to admit that the paramedics should have been called and Heath Ledger would be with all of us today.

Please, as if that is much. This movie is a flop, like all his others. BBM was a success because of the enormous buzz. Jake mistook that as him being a draw. Now he has seen that he is not. If he wants to stay in the public eye and can't with his movies, maybe it's better to follow Dunsts, Witherspoons and Swifts for a little attention. He is pathetic. I bet you his sister is ashamed of him even though she as a sis probably supports some of his moves. Either way, she has a good career w/o any need of publicity.

ReplyDeleteRe. Heath. I've always had mixed feelings towards him. But what I respected was his acting talent and realistic pov regarding Hollywood and his career. He wasn't a B.O. draw either, but I think later in his career he didn't even want to. I remember a comment by Heath saying that BBM was a hit because of the buzz surrounding it. He was not delusional (like, I believe, his co-star). I respected that. What I wasn't a fan of were the reports of partying and womanizing ways even while in a serious relationship with a woman. What I know is that often when I saw pictures of him and Michelle they looked miserable together, very differnt to his pics with Naomi Watts. I can't claim to know what went on in his life and his relationship with Michelle, but Mr. Gilliam gave me an idea, even though people are torn whether to believe him or not, I tend to believe him.

12:34, NSA is a better rom-com than LAOD because NSA KNOWs it's a rom-com and sticks pretty much exclusively to that genre whereas LAOD did know what it was and pretensions of being something greater than its parts.
ReplyDeleteNatalie and Ashton have a kind of awkward chemistry--they're sweet together and have a nice rapport. They're not as "hot" as Anne and Jake (and their scenes aren't nearly as sexy or provocative) BUT their characters are a hundred times more sympathetic, likable and relatable. She's playing a good girl and he's playing a good guy--they're neither sleazy nor desperate. (I know Anne's character had a reason to act that way but other than her great boobs, I didn't understand why Jake was so interested in her considering what a one-dimensional bitch she was--here in NSA Natalie is a commitment-phobe but she's not a bitch)
Also, there's no sleazy brother--the two are surrounded by a greek chorus of friends but they're by and large well written and well played by good actors like Greta Gerwig, Ludacris, among others. Even Kevin Kline, a great actor, plays Ashton's fading TV idol father.

4:19, have you seen NSA? I did. It doesn't suck. It's better than LAOD (which I thought was a mess and very offensive and in poor taste). Ashton is surprisingly good. I couldn't believe it. He really can act. That's the revelation of the film and he works well with Natalie.

It happens. Happened to Josh Hartnett, Orlando Blum etc. If someone like DiCaprio, Clooney or even Franco came out, now that would get attention. With Jake there are so, so many rumors that, I think, it'd hardly be a surprise and hardly anyone would care except for TBers. His star is falling, rapidly.

No strings and these other movies you all compare Jake's movies to won't get him out of the closet any sooner. So whats the point of comparing the box office numbers. Do you think if jake comes out he will be a bigger box office draw in the states? Hollywood would not touch him if he came out. And not because he's gay but because America doesn't support liars. Druggies, drunks and some out gays yes but never liars. By Jake having all these high profile relationships, Jake has placed himself in a bad spot. If he suddenly comes out he will be seen as a liar and a user of women. A coward hiding behnind women and doing God knows what sexually why lying to these women. Do you thin his so called beards would jump to his defense. I think not. So coming out is not an option whether he's a box office failure or box office draw.

ReplyDeleteThis argument is the problem with Jake's career. No doubt, those lettuce eating rodents who still make their comfortable livings spinning their tales about Straight Jake are probably still spoon feeding the guy this easily digestable pablum. Jake's career has tanked because of HIS decisions. HIS performances. HIS lack of imagination and unwillingness to see that what people always liked about Jake was HIMSELF. It wasn't the fans, it was his handlers and "advisors" who convinced him to sell out. That he couldn't be himself and have a successful career. They transformed him into a caricature of what they thought a movie star looked like. Unfortunately, there's no longer any flesh on the bones or blood in his veins. Just a shallow, unapproachable publicity whore. At least, that is what he has been presenting to the public since he entered the closet in 2007.
I'm sure he's the same sweet, kindhearted and charming guy with his friends and family. But, he isn't with the public. The problem is you can't have any kind of career with that kind of disdain for your customers. And, in civilian terms that is what Jake's audiences are. Jake walks around on eggshells now because he allowed himself to be put into a position of weakness. Afraid of what people will ask. Afraid of what people might say or do. Fear is never a becoming attire. It eats at your guts and transforms who you are.
So who's his boyfriend now because it clearly hasn't been Austin--at least not for awhile?

He needs to go back to school like Franco or start a band like Joseph-Gordon Levitt and Gosling or get his production co in gear like the rest of his peers, even Bloom was able to produce a mocie from his company. Jake is lazy and a famewhore, always g=has been. Check out the photo-ops on IHJ of Jake and Kiki. Yes they seem natural and less posed then the later ops, but they are the same pics of him with the it girl of the moment, the same ole schtick.
I disagree that Jake is lazy. Prior to 2006 he worked constantly. Look at imdb from 2001-2005. Eleven movies AND a critically acclaimed play in which he won an Outstanding Newcomer award. Yes, Jake started bearding with Kiki in 2002, but he worked his butt off the whole time. Something changed in late 2006 and I think that something was wanting to raise a family in the closet. That's when the Reeke crap started to be floated on the Rendition set. Jake was always in the closet, but it was more a glass one and he regularly made self- deprecating and provocative jokes that skirted the edges. He's in a deep closet now and doesn't want anything gay to even touch the hem of his shirt. I agree with 10:16 that Jake is responsible for the choices he's made. It's not blogs, fans or Brokeback Mountain that are to blame for where he finds himself now.

ReplyDeleteI believe Austin and Jake are still together. Jake actually even made a point of being photographed with Nichols after the premiere of PoP in late May (with Austin's beard pushed into the background) and the OMG crowd discovered a photograph of him with Jake in Leadville back in late August. Evidently, one of the runners at the event, put it on the blog and no one noticed Austin until October. There's a few naysayers who say that isn't him, but the pic is pretty clear.
^ I meant the blogger put the photograph on his blog. Not OMG's blog. The photo circulated on several sites because it was out there before Jake's people could stop it.

Even during the press for Brokeback Mountain, I don't remember people openly talking about Jake being gay. Sometimes I would hear that folks thought he might play for both teams, but not constant buzz about him being a liar and hypocrite. Or, constantly pointing out that he was an obvious tabloid phony who's just desperately trying to push himself as being straight. People aren't as stupid as Hollywood elites think they are.

OT, I was talking to a couple of friends tonight who are avid film buffs. I haven't read anything, but they said that Zachary Quinto and that movie he produced is getting incredible buzz at Sundance.

With Ryan and Jake (to a lesser extent), I was like why do people find them attractive, but then I saw it with Jake. With Franco it's kinda really obvious. That said, I'm not a big Franco fan. But I appreciate his work ethic.

What keeps Jake from being conventionally good looking is his longish face. Ang Lee said it was difficult to shoot Jake, he needed to find the right angle.

Please, Jake had proven extremely well that he stay out of sight when he wants too. He left LA and went to Nashville and there wasn't any pics. He spent Dec in NYC and there were no pap pics. Jake is only "caught" in pap pics when he wants to be. Also the above post was stated as a supposition, not as a fact.
NSA is no. 1 at box office with 20 millions.

Most posters here think Jake is gay and hiding his sexuality while bearding. Some say it's because of the "showmances??". Most are here because of Ted's (blind Items which points to Jake, which also started off saying Jake was bisexual). Some are here because they intuitively think he's hiding something, his sexuality.
Well I was also interested in Ted's rumors and followed them until I had a flash of reality and started to think for myself and see how some of his reason and other sh-t sounded just like "for entertainment purposes only".
Although, In the beginning of followning JG I felt something was different about him just as most do, this did peak my interest.
Since then I have heard of many Hollywood young and old male stars who are in the closet. I believe some, I know this does and can happen, I also know there is more than what we see and more to these things than we know.
So many of the men, especially the young one's with the rumors have gotten married and some have a child or children now. (Orlando Bloom - Many rumors of he and the guy from LOTR) Both married with kids. I know the rationale that they can still be in the closet, True.
But, Some may not be and it can just be rumors! Also, Some can be bi-sexual men, young and old who don't want to, or will not come out as bisexual. In the closet bisexuals. LOL
It happens Wayyyy more than the avaerage person realizes.
There will always be those who will considered these men as gay no matter what, and I think this is part of some of what we have seen with these guy, maybe Jake. Most of these guys will have girlfriends and maybe get married with children. So you will see them with the opposite sex and if attention points towards anything other than straightness, they will (act out) as being nothing other.
Point is, most of the stars with gay rumors are probably bisexual to some degree. Yes, some are Gay and some might be totally str8.
I see Jake as probably being bi with no interest in speaking on it openly, NOW. Then going the route of most like him. Even Heath Ledger briefly had some bi rumors.
Most of the truly (totally GAY) - (Matt Bonner and guy from Heros and Star Trek) stars will stay single and live in plain site.
And, they don't and Won't speak on it!
