This past weekend, the New Yorker held its annual festival, which -- as always -- includes a multitude of speakers and panels discussing a variety of topics. Top players in all professions were represented, including Stephen King, Malcolm Gladwell, Jake Gyllenhaal and Regina Spektor -- all chatting about themselves and their areas of expertise. Our favorite, though, would have to have been Cynthia Nixon on the panel discussion "Love and Obstacles: The Case for Gay Marriage."
Ms. Nixon, who is most known for her role has Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City, and now is engaged to education activist Christine Marinoni, stole our hearts with her rather calm, well made argument. Not only does she make a good case, she makes an example of how to make said point.
“Gay people who want to marry have no desire to redefine marriage in any way. When women got the vote, they did not redefine voting. When African-Americans got the right to sit at a lunch counter alongside white people, they did not redefine eating out. They were simply invited to the table. And that is all we want to do. We have no desire to change marriage. We want to be entitled to not only the same privileges, but the same responsibilities as straight people.”

I agree with Ted that BVs shouldn't be taken so seriously - which is what the people who are getting so pissed off are doing. Ted isn't writing about you 11:58 and neither he nor anyone else is making sweeping statements about all gay men. If you don't think anonymous sex outside gay clubs happens (not the same as prostitution) you are naive. Of course, not all gay men engage in it. Also, of course heterosexuals engage in casual and dangerous sex, too. Go to a "singles" bar on Friday or Saturday night and you can see a lot of sleaze. But straight people don't have to hide the fact that they are straight b/c sadly that's considered the "norm."

I think most of the personal attacks mentioned above are coming from Jack who is making up stuff or remembers/keeps tabs on everything any one has ever said on OMG.

I can assure people that NETB is NOT posting about people behind their backs - especially not SpecialK who is a lovely person. I'm sure you all must be aware that people can try to mimic other people's posting styles to hide who they are and to cause trouble, and NETB hasn't used a regular name since due to harassment from awhile back, probably also from Jack. There's no reason to be discussing the posters over at OMG, only the topics. NETB knows nothing about Tom using Olay, that's pure Jack, PG speaks of her situation regularly. Just for the record!

I was once at a gay bar with friends and as we were leaving, I turned to see were two women going at it in an alley. On my first visit of many to SF, I saw two women passionately kissing.
^^This. I don't get how posters here can't believe raw sex outside in an alley with a stranger wouldn't happen with TT or anyone. Once a friend of mine stepped out of the club we were at to get fucked by a guy against the back fence. Another did it on top of a car in the bar parking lot. I myself did it with a stranger in a random house's backyard near the bar. Those are just three of many many many incidents. Ted didn't say what day of the week this happened on. It could've been on an off nite like Monday or tuesday, where TT was lonely and bored and went there just to hang around. I imagine how conflicted he might have felt, wanting badly to go inside a gay bar to make a connection and socialize but knowing that he can't. So he hangs outside around in the general area lurking and hoping for a quickie. Actually I hope he does this again. Not to be mean but it would be a relief to everyone and him if maybe he got caught. Idk what it would do to his career having his mugshot and "Jake Gyllenhaal arrested soliciting gay sex" in all the headlines. Wasn't Eddie Murphy caught with a transexual (male) hooker and he swore he thought it was a woman? It might be better to get the angst over with and have the "worst" happen. I totally agree Destiny. I am not sure where the friction is coming from but I doubt it is coming from any regulars. Just folks trying to stir up some trouble doesn't doesnt really exist.

Well I think this weekend will be the test of the Jake/Taylor showmance. Ms. Swift is set to appear at some Teen Awards on Sunday in London and someone said the other day that she was scheduled to fly out on Friday. If Jake is still in London (he's scheduled to start do TV interviews on Wed in NYC) and we get the "suprise pap pics" and the Twitter sightings, you know that by next week the rag mags will have the London getaway story and how Jake waited for Taylor to get there so they could have another ice cream date. If that does happen, that means Jake purposely stayed in London to spend the weekend with his new prom date and further the showmance. Not only do I think that the whole Taylor Swift thing is embrassing and desperate looking for Jake, but I'm surprised that he and his PR would still be committed to it after this has made him a laughing stock. Even gossip sites that promoted Reeke are laughing at him. I agree with the person who said that Jake is becoming known by who he's dating rather than being known as an actor.

Well, at least the air is cleared. I don't know how I feel from day to day about J&A's relationship, sometimes I think they're on, other times not. While I may have disagreements about that in posts, I have never, ever attacked anyone unless it was in response to one against me.
