This past weekend, the New Yorker held its annual festival, which -- as always -- includes a multitude of speakers and panels discussing a variety of topics. Top players in all professions were represented, including Stephen King, Malcolm Gladwell, Jake Gyllenhaal and Regina Spektor -- all chatting about themselves and their areas of expertise. Our favorite, though, would have to have been Cynthia Nixon on the panel discussion "Love and Obstacles: The Case for Gay Marriage."
Ms. Nixon, who is most known for her role has Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City, and now is engaged to education activist Christine Marinoni, stole our hearts with her rather calm, well made argument. Not only does she make a good case, she makes an example of how to make said point.
“Gay people who want to marry have no desire to redefine marriage in any way. When women got the vote, they did not redefine voting. When African-Americans got the right to sit at a lunch counter alongside white people, they did not redefine eating out. They were simply invited to the table. And that is all we want to do. We have no desire to change marriage. We want to be entitled to not only the same privileges, but the same responsibilities as straight people.”

While The New York Times today reports that DreamWorks intends to groom its I Am Number Four star Alex Pettyfer for stardom, Fox and New Regency have got him next. Pettyfer and Matt Bomer have been added to play starring roles in Now, the Andrew Niccol-directed film that stars Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. DreamWorks clearly hopes that Pettyfer will front a franchise in I Am Number Four, an alien story which will span multiple books. Pettyfer is also on a short list -- along with Aaron Johnson and Max Irons and a couple others, I hear -- for Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Killer. He also will stars in Beastly next year for CBS Films. As for Bomer, he's got a high profile feature role, after almost coming out of nowhere to get a big feature shot several years ago, when Brett Ratner pushed hard for him to play Superman in a three-picture arc. That possibility went away when Ratner dropped from the project. Bomer has gone on to star in the USA Network series White Collar. Now takes place in a future where the aging gene has been turned off, and life as measured by units of time becomes the currency.

But I'll wait and see how I like his performance in LAOD, if it's another disappointment, I think I'll think twice the next time before I pay a ticket for a Jake movie. I liked his performances in October Sky and DD (although I find the movie to be overrated), I guess he was good in TGG too and of course BBM. But I think he has not a big range, always similar facial expressions and lack of passion on screen. I guess he's solid and could sustain a solid career if he chooses his projects well. But it's getting boring watching him. His good looks won't last forever either and he isn't as cute anymore as he used to be 5-10 years ago.

Ricky Martin Opens Up About Family Life, Coming Out: "I Couldn't Take It Anymore"
For the first time since his brave (but not exactly bombshell) coming-out this spring, Ricky Martin sat down with Oprah Winfrey.
As you can imagine, the talk queen and the newly liberated father of twins had a lot to catch up on.
Starting with...
What prompted his decision to come out in the first place.
"I couldn't take it anymore, Oprah. It was too painful," he said, adding that it was his children, Valentino and Matteo, who gave him the final push he needed to share his truth with the world.
"Before I decided to become a father, I already accepted who I was. I was happy with who I was. When I held my children, I said, OK, it was time to tell the world."
But he wasn't prepared for the emotions that came with clicking "send" on the blog post heard round the world.
"I felt relieved," he said, adding that he could not stop the floods of tears that came after he revealed he was gay. "I felt free, I felt liberated, I could finally say I loved myself completely.
"For many years, I was trying to pretend I was somebody [else]."
And the ever-prying media didn't do much to help him out. In fact, Martin says it was the constant bombardment of speculation about his sexuality that caused him to wait as long as he did to come out.
"People were mocking my sexuality," he said. "When someone is not ready, you must not force them to come out."

Walters' 2000 interview, in which she infamously would simply not drop the topic of Martin's sexuality, opened the floodgates and seemed to give anyone with a microphone free license to ask him questions about his private life.
"I have a lot of respect for Barbara. She's an amazing journalist, and she was doing her job. But she was beating me up," Martin said. "She knocked me out. She kept on going and going and going. I just wasn't ready. I wasn't ready. It wasn't my moment."
Not that that stopped her any.
"I felt anger afterward because I felt invaded," he said. "I felt violated in many ways. It wasn't the first time I was asked this on television, but this was a major television show."
But what a difference a decade makes. Martin arrived at Oprah's studio fully ready to share some insights into his private life, revealing that he is currently in "a beautiful relationship" and admitting that he shared some passionate and genuine relationships with women in the past.
"I was not gonna start lying and pretending to be someone I was not," he said of his decision to include his relationships with women in his new memoir, Me. "I felt passion. I felt sexual…yes, it felt good. And I'm sure I'm not the only man, the only gay man, that felt attraction to a woman."
However, Martin wants the record to be clear:
"I am not bisexual. I am a gay man. For many years, I thought I was. I was confused then, but when I was with a woman, everything wasn't perfect, but the most important thing is people loved to see me with women."
As for the defining moment when he decided to live freely, he had some help along the way from an unexpected source.
"Madonna said, 'Stop doing interviews, because people already know who you are.' "
It was that advice which led Martin to take a step back from working, take a break and allow himself to see the bigger picture of his life.
"I always wanted to be a father," he said, noting that during his break, he began the process of surrogacy. Today, he's never away from his 2-year-old boys for more than two nights at a time.
"I am mom and I am dad and I'm gonna do my best," he said. "I am part of a modern family."
And what happens when the kids start asking to see their biological mother? Martin said he'd tell them, "You're looking at her."
Seriously, though, "I'm not there yet."
"They will ask me…[I'll say] I wanted you in my life so bad that with the help of god everything lined up for you. I'm gonna start with that."
What's clear is that Martin's children mean the world to him.
"My kids gave me all the strength to come out. They gave me that final push. If I didn't come out for them, what was I going to be teaching them, how to lie? I don't want my family to be based on lies. I want to be transparent to them. I want them to be proud of their dad. I want them to be proud of their family."
As for his coming-out, he says it gave him the greatest sense of peace he's ever known.
"If I knew how amazing it would make me feel, I would've done it 10 years ago."

Jake does not nearly have the talent Heath had. That is why Jake has to rely on PR lies to try and succeed.
Not all actors can be Heath good and that's fine. The problem with Jake isn't his rather limited acting skills (he's solid enough, look at George Clooney's successful career) but his famewhoring via "relationships" with women who make him look like a wimp and a fool.

I Like Oprah, but at times she is not the best interviewer. More entertainment than a indepth enterviewing. But, she will grill a guest "when she wants to". Or, she's not trying to be overly nice to a guest or friend, ala Tyler Perry.
Portia's interview was good. She admitted to being gay, hiding and not wanting to be gay, then excepting it.
Ricky spoke about loving a women and being truly interested in them which included sex with them. He admitted to being gay then.. (His word), and I can and will except them. She also mentioned her belief in sexuality was more about the Kinsey scale of some peoples sexuality and the 0 to 10 scale aspect.
However during past shows Oprah has asked the men who have participated in marriage with women and sex with women and men and asked them where they in denial about the sexuality when they said they were bisexual, as if she did not really believe them.
She has not done this to the women who has labeled themselves bisexual and she has NOT asked them were they in denial about their sexuality. This has happened a number of times on her show. She "seems" to except their passing fancy or experimental phase or, bisexual nature as the TRuTh. Especially if they are Celebritys.
Recently while enterviewing Tyler Perry who professed to being molested as a child and then acting out in his teen years and young adult life as going against what his mind was telling him or (his words) my body betrayed me! Not once did she ask him was he Gay, bisexual, in denial, or in the closet. Why? Is this because he stated in the beginning of the show that he was hetro? and melosted?
I know this is dealing with molestation and a child being violated which is one of the worst things that could happen to a child, but something tells me that if it was anyone other than her friend Tyler, or any JOe BloW, she would have grilled the man about the gay aspect of his (former) life. Matter of fact, I know she would have. She did not ask Tyler about his dealing with same sex partners of his past and he nor she did not mention the words gay, bi, but he did mention hetro.
I am saying even though Oprah claims to be open to diversity and I believe she is, to a point, somewhat, but she is still apart of those people who believe that men are only gay or bisexual and woman can be bi, gay, straight, complex or all of the above.
And my point is, Most people think like this. So, when the audience clapped when Ricky claimed he was in love with, dated and truly interest in women, but he was gay, was the audience happy that he confirmed his gayness and dispelled the (Myth of {Male Bisexuality})? Or lying to himself or the public?
This I don't know, but more power and much love to Ricky for his braveness and coming out.
