August 4, 2010 - Proposition 8 ruled unconstitutional‎

From the ruling: "Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California constitution the notion that opposite sex couples are superior to same sex couples."

Safe House - Update: THR say that Tom Hardy and James McAvoy are also on the list of would-be co-stars.

Agree that most on this list are crappy actors. Uninteresting personalities off-screen as well.

Hardy being randomly added to any list means he's arrived in HW's consciousness. Next, he'll have his own BI. ;)

Manly Movie Stars: Rodrigue Talks the Evolution of Masculinity in Film

The allure of a great actor, Rodrigue believes, comes down to the fact that “nothing is more attractive than clarity.” It’s particularly tough for a man to have clarity (in himself, what he wants, and where he is going) in this tenuous cultural, social, economic and political climate (which has been called “the end of men”). That clarity is essential for the wide-appeal movie stars that ambitious actors want to be. Below, Rodrigue discusses the state of American men on film.

[Jean-Louis Rodrigue, a teacher at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, the Larry Moss and Howard Fine Acting Studios, and coach for numerous film and theater actors, is an expert in the Alexander Technique* (he is a founder of the Alexander Training Institute of Los Angeles) and a “movement specialist.”]

*Heath used the Alexander technique

That's one thing that I found really attractive about Heath - the way he moves and carries himself. It was especially apparent in TDK, at least to me. :)

Anonymous said...

I think Heath had a deeply manly voice, though it was a magnificent instrument that could convey feminine qualities, too.

Jake's voice is very attractive. It has a soft quality that makes him boyish and likable, a bit like Tom Hanks' Everyman voice. But the softness makes it a bit harder for him to sound tough and authoritative.

I agree about Jake, disagree about the chemistry with Anne. I find it to be only good if a bit blah in the trailer. Maybe I'll change my mind once I see more footage of them together.

Anonymous said...

Granted, I only saw the trailer. But...this film--its genre--really isn't for me. I'm not a huge fan of raunchy sex comedies and I don't like fratboy humor. I think this is a film for a younger audience (I'm in my 40s). Definitely not for me but I'm sure it's well made and will get an audience.

Anonymous said...

And I do find it hilarious that Anne is considered a frontrunner for an Oscar nomination after seeing Annette Bening BURN up the screen with her incredible, brilliant acting in "Mother and Child" and "The Kids are All Right." Yes, she's great in the latter and will probably be recognized for it but the former...genius work.

To be fair, the Oscar frontrunner is coming from fans who have seen screenings (and sadly they're not the best judges-I can't tell you how many times fans have liked movies only for it to be savaged by critics and ignored/neglected by the industry) or critics who have heard buzz but haven't seen the film yet.

More on Safehouse...New York Post weighs in. Jake's name mentioned first and his picture is first on the left, so he's still got heat despite PoP going poof in the US. Good staying power, Jake!

Lock me up and throw away the key

I can't speak to the strength of a new script, but judging from the starpower in hot pursuit, I have to imagine it's beyond stellar. "Safe House" tells the story of a young CIA agent assigned to keep a criminal alive when hired killers descend upon the safe house they're locked in.

Sounds intriguing -- but interesting enough to attracted the attentions of Jake Gyllenhaal, James McAvoy, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Pine, Taylor Kitsch, Zac Efron ...
..Garret Hedlunc, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hardy, Channing Tatum, Sam Worthington and Shia LaBeouf? I mean, that is a serious roster right there. It's literally as if Universal pictures crawled inside PopWrap's brain and pulled from our secret hard drive.

Ok, so it's not THAT secret ...

Personally I'm hoping "Inception" star Tom Hardy snags this role because I am a big fan of his, believe he has the physical presence to bring this character to life and really would like for him to be a big, giant star.
- Jarett Wieselman (InTouch Weekly Senior Lifestyle Editor)

Anonymous said...

Jake's best onscreen chemistry with a woman imho is with Jennifer Aniston (like her or not--she and Jake sizzle).

Anonymous said...

Tom Hardy looks too old for "young CIA agent".

Anonymous said...

Ryan Reynolds - 33, too old
James McAvoy - too short, not American
Zac Efron - too small, too young
Sam Worthington - too short, not American, wrong look
Shia LaBeouf - too small

Jake, with a little bit of luck ...

Anonymous said...

According to JJ, Reynolds is the lucky lad.

I don't know why, but I can't quite picture Jake and Denzel together in a movie like that. I would think the role calls for someone with an equaly forceful screen presense, or someone who's just going to kind of blandly fit in, ala Reynolds.

This showed nothing that we haven't seen before in movies.
Jake is the douchebag that grows a heart and Anne is the sexy gal that teachs the guy that she can be smart too. So?

I do think this could be a big hit, though,I really hope so. I'm kinda tired of science fiction,3-D adventures,war/action movies. Maybe LAOD is as bad as it looks, but, at least, is trying to tell a story about real people and real life problems. There aren't too much films like that anymore...

p.s. Anne looks absolutely beautiful,more than ever.
Jake looks just ok.

Anonymous said...

1:47, I was very disappointed in the way Jake looks. Anne looks good though but him...I hate to say this but he looked better in Prince of Persia.

I'm starting to think he peaked in BBM.

As for Anne being a surefire bet for an Oscar nomination...oh really? If this were a very weak year for Best Actress nods, then maybe. But I have a feeling she will feel great competition from Mrs. Warren Beatty first and foremost followed by the almost Mrs. Heath Ledger, the former Mrs. Sean Penn, newbie Jennifer Lawrence, Carey Mulligan, Mrs. Josh Brolin and Sally Hawkins. It's a very competitive year finally for Best Actresses. Someone showing off their great rack repeatedly is not enough to get an Oscar nod.

No way will Jake get an Oscar nod. Very crowded and competitive. And these clips really were not impressive.

Anonymous said...

1:53 PM # 2 - I agree, but I'm sure everyone here would be happy enough if the movie at least gets decent reviews. Jake's last critically acclaimed movie was Zodiac back in 2006.

You have to remember who the main audience is on ET: females. To bring in the male audience it'll be during TV shows with a predominantly male viewership and be presented as a Viagra pharma story with tits and ass. And we'll never know for sure but if LAOD is ultra-sexy you can bet job apps to pharma companies will spike in about a year or so.

and this looks like a cliche ridden mess"

~~~~
I agree about the bursting through the door thing - that's been done to death in movies, tv and soap operas. But I haven't seen enough to call it a cliche ridden mess. That first look on ET made me think this could be a hit. There's an audience for this kind of stuff, especially if they throw in the fratboy humor to widen the base.
Anonymous said...
After "Shampoo" came out haircutting/beauty schools were PACKED with male students.
LOL. But how many of them looked like Warren Beatty? :D
cliches said...
LOL if LAOD also has a "running thru the airport" scene too.
Anonymous said...
How many practice/real clients/co-stylists looked like Julie Christy?!
Anonymous said...
Shampoo isn't a good comparison because that script was VERY smart and hip (not fratboyish) and the cast (sorry Jake and Anne) was incredible.
Plus, Warren Beatty was in his prime and a hundred times more charismatic on screen than Jake who I'm starting to think is massively overrated (and limited).
But yeah the kids will like this--the adults over 35 who've seen this done so many times before by people far more accomplished (and with less childish humor) may not be so impressed.
Anonymous said...
Warren Beatty was GORGEOUS in Shampoo. Plus, yeah that character was a rake and he does finally want to grow up and move on with Julie Christie. But by the time he does, it's too late. She moves on with that old guy.
cliche I: Jake is a smartass that gets away with it through his charm.
cliche II: Anne is the sweet,beautiful but, oh so intelligent, mousy but sexy chick.
cliche III: They start "fighting" doing the honors to that stupid theory of war of the sexes.
(She even "punchs" him!!!, ha! how hilarious!)
cliche IV: Bursting through the door before having sex
cliche V: Jake's best friend is an ugly,fat,looser (a very usual source to make the male lead more atractive) and when the girl goes to the guy's apartment in th emove for some bed time, the looser friend is there and ruins the moment in the most boring, over used comic relief in a million movies
cliche VI: The former douche is in love with the sassy girl but...awwwww! she is sick and they can't be together!!!
Ugh.
This movie seems no better than "Valentine's day" or "Brides War".
Too bad, because for a moment, i thought this could be a comedy more in the line of "As good as it gets" or Bill Wilder's "the Apartment" but I guess this is barely "The Hangover" meets "Love story"
Don't count with my money for this.
I think the people on imdb who have seen this film in pre-screenings and think it's the best romantic comedy they've seen either are extremely young (under 25) and haven't seen much rom-coms or were stoned/drunk when they saw it.
One of my favorite rom-coms is "When Harry Met Sally." That was very well done and Meg didn't have to rip her shirt off repeatedly to get attention/buzz.
I'll choose option #3 - tired of the tedium of constant Jake-hating. People are entitled to their opinions of course, but who knows how the actual film will be. I do think we ought to give the film more of a chance than a few seconds' clip before we write it off completely. I'm not a big fan of romcom's, but sometimes there are a few that I do like. I thought the scene with Jaime's brother was cute. :)
Did you watch the movie? Based on the trailer alone, the movie is promising.
As trailers go, it's not very well cut together. Rythym is clunky and it doesn't build up strongly. (For an example of a good, excellently constructed trailer, see the one for Sandra Bullock's The Proposal). Cliches aside -- every romcom is full of them -- it also doesn't showcase much wit. I'd hoped for wit.
One thing I found noticeable seeing Anne and Jake side by side on screen again was their similarly giant eyes and big teeth. The closeups create a funny mirror effect, emphasizing these prominent features. Both of them have faces that can look gorgeous in one take and weirdly horsey and dorky in the next. So much depends on shooting angles for these two. I wonder if seeing them together for an entire movie is going to be comical in the wrong way. In some of the trailer cuts they presented as cute and hot, but in others they looked like headlamp-eyed gerbils twitching at each other.
Based on the trailer alone, my interest in this movie is close to zero. But I think it will be a medium-sized hit, which is good for Jake.
LOL like you I hope it doesn't turn out like that. I agree with you. Besides what you pointed out I also think Jake and Anne look like brother and sister coloring-wise. IMO a contrast would have been better, however no Reese blondes, thank you. Remember that Vampire Weekend video? IMO it would be lovely in a movie if Jake played opposite a redhead or strawberry blonde.
Anonymous said...
I can't think of a redhead that's working right now... Jake might have looked good next to Abbie Cornish. Too bad she's damaged her image with Ryan. Emma Watson has WASPy looks, like Heath, which provide nice tension and contrast. Saoirse Ronan is another possibility but maybe too young. Then there's Rooney Mara. Not Jake's preferred blonde, but she reminds me of Maggie and you know some men marry their mothers or sisters (ok, or brothers). (She's not the beard type, don't get excited anyone. Just saying her looks seem a possible match for Jake's).
But ultimately, Jake has shown so far that he works best, beautifully, and sexily only next to Heath. So he needs another Heath-like man. (Is there such a thing?)
Amy Adams. Isla Fisher. Bryce Dallas Howard. Just a few redheads working today I can think of.
I do think this could be a big hit, though,I really hope so. I'm kinda tired of science fiction,3-D adventures,war/action movies.
That funny cuz I was gonna say I am tried of rom-coms but not the others.
But LaOD sounds boring. Won't be bothering, they're a dime a fucking dozen and Anne is great but I'm not watching this just to see how 'adorable' and 'beautiful' she is. I'd honestly rather go watch a documentary about herpes. Anything that's not been done to death and then injected, re-awoken and flogged into the floor again.
LAOD trailer - why didn't they let us know that Anne's character has a serious health condition?
In the coffee shop scene her fingers are trembling, but no one will link that to Parkinson's.
Sounds like PBS and the Discovery Channel are more suitable for your taste, temperament and libido.
Amy Adams. Isla Fisher. Bryce Dallas Howard. Just a few redheads working today I can think of.
(*_*) Isla Fisher, forgot about her. She'd be nice with Jake. I found Amy Adams massively annoying in Julia and Julia. DNW. Bryce Howard...too mumsy. Ryan Gosling + Jake...trying to imagine scenario...going away to imagine...
Jake as one of The Men of Team Chris Nolan? Unlikely to happen. Nolan doesn't do star vehicles and Jake has moved into that mode.
I'd like to see Jake work with Fincher again, too, but Fincher's busy for the next few years. Kind of excited that he's making Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, even though I loved the Swedish movie and freakin hate Hollywood remakes 99% of the time. Who will be Lisbeth...I love her...there hasn't been such a crazed casting search since the hunt for Scarlett O'Hara. Rooney Mara, whom Fincher directed in the upcoming "The Social Network," is in the running...
Jake is a movie star.
So he needs another Heath-like man. (Is there such a thing?)
No.
But JGL is the closest I've seen in that independent creative way. But of course he's JGL.
it also doesn't showcase much wit. I'd hoped for wit.
Yeah, although I think the movie shows promise, I have to admit I noticed that, too. I almost winced when the brother says something like "has your body been taken over by aliens?" when Jake says he misses Anne's voice. Kind of blatant and predictable. Maybe the dialogue is sharper in other scenes, but usually trailers give you the best lines.
I can't help it, I find that "OMG!" scene funny, especially the way Josh says it. You can identify with some of it. :)
Sometimes you have to see the entire film, I've seen trailers that I wasn't that thrilled with, but was crazy about the actual movie, and sometimes things are in trailers that don't even exist in the actual film.
Some of you guys are nitpicking way too much. Let's wait and see the movie before we judge.
Even this years best so far "Inception" had some cheasy scenes like some of the dialoge between DiCapio and Cotillard.
Says you. :)
We aren't going to mention "Inception" plot holes :)
The scene is very funny, all three are adorable in it.
Jake and Anne have nice chemistry in LaOD. IMO the chemistry mostly comes from Anne. It's obvious she likes Jake a lot, always has...since BBM. He, OTOH, though fond of her, I don't think she's someone who he wants to forge a close friendship with. JMO
Why not?
I wonder if TH, JGL, or both, will be in Batman 3? Plus with Bale, that would be something. I love that scene Bale is changing his shirt in TDK.
Anonymous said...
Why not?
IDK. They seem too different. It's just my opinion that I formed from watching Jake interact with Anne all throughout BBM promo and talking about her etc.
Jake and Heath seemed close during promotional work...naturally. But instead of complimenting Anne's acting in BBM, he gushed about Michelle's. And when Jake won his BAFTA he thanked Ang, Heath, Michelle, the producers, writers etc., except for Anne.
So yeah, that's where I base my opinion from.
What about Jake's manscaping and highlighted hair in LAOD. imo he looks too International Male. SMA won't buy him.
Anonymous said...
They seem too different.
Not a good enough reason. IMO they seem more alike than Jake and Heath.
Anonymous said...
Not a good enough reason.
As I've said, I feel she likes him a lot more than vice versa. That's all I'm saying. And it's not even that important. What counts is that they have chemistry on screen and they do.
Twins on the way for Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka via surrogate
Neil Patrick Harris is going to have his hands full come fall.
E! News has exclusively learned that the ubiquitous actor and his longtime partner, David Burtka, are going to become the parents of twins, via a beautiful surrogate, this October.
At least the dads are allowed to celebrate with a champagne toast!
A source tells E! that the happy couple have put baby shower plans in motion, as if Harris' chance of winning three Emmys this month wasn't already enough to celebrate!
Burtka, a chef and actor who has guest-starred on How I Met Your Mother, was just seen with his multitalented beau last weekend after Harris directed a production of Rent at the Hollywood Bowl.
And this is not the first time there's been speculation about Harris' pending fatherhood.
Star reported last year that Burtka and Harris had visited a surrogacy agency in L.A. to get the ball rolling on expanding their family. They've been together for roughly six years.
Reps for Harris have yet to return our calls for comment.
Speculation? Why speculation if they have info about kids due in October?
LOL at Clooney, Franco's pic looks nothing like him, looks like Seacrest lost a few pounds, and Rachel Maddow had long blonde hair?!?
What If Hollywood Really Was One Big High School?
Celebrities are always saying that Hollywood is superficial and cliquish, just like high school. Inspired by that idea, we’ve pulled the yearbook photos of some of our favorite actors, musicians, and TV personalities, and tried to figure out where they would have fit in back in the day. You might be surprised to see where certain stars landed — while for others, it looks like nothing has changed at all.
