I caught an interview he did with NPR the other day and he was quite articulate and spoke about Chris Nolan and Inception with a lot of depth. He sure didn't come across as a dim bulb to me :)
I've watched the Shutter Island press conference and he didn't come across as too bright to me. Sir Ben Kingsley, Marty Scorsese and even Mark Ruffalo did.
I would love tons of sex scenes and naked Jack and Ennis, but the first night in the tent sex scene was hotter than 100 suns and not seeing them naked made it even hotter.

Details takes a look at why fathers who have no problem with homosexuality or gay people are suddenly uncomfortable when they suspect one of their children might be gay:
"The fact is, parents—dads especially, even those who cry at weddings and like to make soufflés—take pride when their kids follow culturally ingrained gender roles. When the kids don't, things feel weird. As Ron, a 37-year-old postdoctoral student at UCLA with two sons under 5, says, "It really makes me happy to see my 4-year-old decked out in Texas Longhorns gear. But I gotta tell you, when my wife took him to a 'fairy hunt' recently and he came home talking about all the fairies he saw, I was more than a little uncomfortable." And that's coming from a man who worked at an art gallery for four years and has never voted Republican.
It may sound like liberal-dad hypocrisy, but guys like Ron say it's their hyperawareness of gay culture that makes them so fear the idea of their kids being homosexual in the first place. "You see the news; you see movies like Brokeback Mountain and Boys Don't Cry," Ron says. "You think, It would be a hell of a lot easier if my kid turned out not to be gay."
But so what if he did? "I think parents overestimate the miserable life their children will have if they're gay," says Ritch C. Savin-Williams, the director of Cornell's Sex & Gender Lab. "We've seen incredible, progressive changes in terms of gender and sexual diversity in the last 20 years. I think what parents are really worried about is that having a gay child will somehow reflect poorly on their parenting."
Would You 'Really' Be Okay with a Gay Kid? [details]
When Your Kid Likes Barbie Instead of G.I. Joe comment:
"As a partnered gay parent, maybe I can put a little spin on this. When I married my partner he already had children (who I have now legally adopted). The thought of our son growing up gay never came into my mind (you don't give any thought to a 6 year old's sexuality) until I made a crack about it one day and my partner practically had a meltdown about it. The way he saw it (which actually kind of convinced me) was not so much how straight people would treat our son, but how gay people would treat him.
My partner and I are extremely lucky to have found each other and we have both been around the block a few times. We both grew up in major metropolitan centers and have never questioned nor had anyone else question our sexuality. For all intents and purposes we should be the most well-adjusted gay people on the planet. It was at the hands of 'boyfriends' that we both suffered. Whether it was outright physical abuse or emotional abuse at the hands of men who cheated on us who we thought we were in love with, it was gay men who inflicted by far the highest degree of damage on us. You have to admit that a lo of gay men are outright pigs. We have all come across them and/or dated. Hopefully we get out of it relatively unscathed. My partner and I will obviously be supportive of however our son grows up. We just want him to be happy, but we also want to protect him from what we went through. I can't speak for straight parents, but from my gay perspective I have to wonder if it really would be easier for him to grow up straight. Although I have to admit, I would kind of like it if he did turn out gay. Hopefully by then the gay men around him will be more mature."
it's total bullshit. Jake and Austin are no more than friends now. if want to be pulled around by the nose with Ted's silly post go ahead. but he is the blame for this lame couple-daddy-ship. Some fans are just needy for this to be true. What Jake and Austin had in the past, if they had anything is over now. there is nothing wrong with staying friends after it's over.
Have you tried regular exercise and a sensible diet to take care of this irregularity/constipation issue?

The link offering up this quote suggests perhaps he'll play opposite Russell Crowe in the remake of A Star is Born, but I can't help it, my mind drifts off towards the rumored Damn Yankees movie... Jake Gyllenhaal as the slugger and JGL as the devil? Please?

Last Friday, there was an account on Facebook that 'Mitchell enjoyed dining with the stars (tho not dancing with them) Friday at the home of Tamara Weiss of Midnight Farm on Martha's Vineyard. Name dropping--impossible to resist...Tamara's husband cooked for Mitchell and Carly Simon, Jake Gyllenhall, Jim Belushi, Amy Brennerman (Private Practice/Judging Amy), Busy Phillipps (Cougartown), and NY restaurateur Keith McNally (Pulino's, Balthazar, Minetta Tavern...)...'
Mitchell Gold is the openly gay Chairman and marketing genius behind Mitchell Gold Company, a furniture manufacturer with over $100 million dollars in annual sales. Mitchell Gold furniture is sold in retail outlets such as Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel. Mitchell Gold is also known for his philanthropic efforts, including his organization Faith In America, which fights religion-based bigotry.
I asked Mitchell a few questions about his family life, the one gay person he'd like to meet and how he likes his men.
Q: Tell me about the Mitchell Gold, Bob Williams partnership prior to the 1989 launch of Mitchell Gold Co.? A: We met in 1987 the week before NYC Gay Pride. We kinda started seeing each other exclusively pretty quickly. That summer we went on vacation and talked a great deal about starting a business together. Our ideas went from a clothing catalog with favorite updated classics and a year later we were talking about a vineyard.
Q: You're hailed as the marketing guy and Bob the creative. Do you ever switch roles? A: It would be more accurate to say that I take the lead in marketing and Bob takes the lead in product design. We talk to each other a great deal about the other’s area and generally have full agreement before we move forward with anything.
Q: When did you come out? A: When I was 26 years old....working at Bloomingdales.
Q: What was your family life like? A: My Jewish parents and older brother were generally wonderful, all things considered. They could never have understood the torment I was going through as a teenager with my sexuality. We were a touch above middle class. My parents were very hugging and warm, but were very involved with their social life. We weren’t the 'Leave it to Beaver' kinda family. More like the 'Jetsons.'
Q: Who is the one gay person in the world you'd like to meet? A: The gay or lesbian high school student feeling alone and isolated and contemplating suicide. To tell them they are not alone, and that it gets better... much better.
When it comes to a male actor deciding to come out of the closet, the conventional wisdom is that it will ruin his chances of ever being a big movie star – especially if he wants those coveted romantic leading men roles. If the audience knows the guy is gay, apparently it will kill the fantasy and no one will want to buy tickets. We hear it time and time again from the Hollywood power players and creative folks – both gay and straight – and we heard it again over the weekend at the Outfest Film Festival during a panel called Coming Out in Hollywood. You wonder though, how do they know? Has it ever been tested? Have we ever had a major studio film flop because an openly gay actor had the romantic lead role?
I’d love to see , for example, what would have happened if the red-hot Neil Patrick Harris had the Tom Cruise role in Knight & Day. Might it have made more than the paltry $70 million it has taken in so far domestically? Maybe. Maybe not. We don’t know because it has never really been tried as far as I know. But it’s hard to change things when an openly gay writer-director such as Don Roos (The Opposite of Sex, Bounce, Happy Endings) has issues with gays playing straight and vice-versa. “I think the relationship between an audience and an actor is a very complicated thing, especially in a romantic lead,” Roos said during the panel discussion. “When you’re in a movie theater, what’s on the screen isn’t necessarily appealing to your best instincts. Most of the audience is going to be homophobic, they’re mostly violent in their hearts and that’s what they’re responding to on the screen and you can’t wait to have a career until the audience is not homophobic. That’s never going to happen. … In a romantic role, it can be very distracting for the audience to not be able to give themselves to a particular character. Like when I was watching Philadelphia — I knew [Tom Hanks] was straight.”
Roos has directed such actors as Ben Affleck, Gwyneth Paltrow, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tom Arnold, Lisa Kudrow, Christina Ricci, Lyle Lovett, Jason Ritter, Laura Dern and several other people who are quite well-known, not exactly blank slates in the minds of the public. It makes me wonder if knowing that Affleck and Paltrow are straight was a distraction in Bounce. “I think everybody should be out to their circle but it’s more difficult if you’re a romantic lead,” Roos said at the Outfest event. “It would be hard for me to cast Natalie Portman as a woman rancher because she’s this crazy vegan. I want to not have conversations about is he gay or is he not gay; I want to know as little as possible.”
I wanted to publicly ask Roos to expand on this topic but could not manage to get called on by the moderator.
So I talked to Don face-to-face after the panel and we started by talking about his problems with Hanks and his Oscar-winning performance as a gay man with AIDS fighting being fired from his job in 1993′s Philadelphia. “I kept feeling distracted knowing that he wasn’t really gay,” Roos told me. “I was admiring him and thinking, ‘Oh my God, how well he’s playing that.’ The more I know about any actor about anything, the more distracting it is.” “I’m just saying in general, the more I know about an actor and his personal life and his personal beliefs, the less useful it is to me as a director. Sometimes I’m distracted because I’m mad that it isn’t a gay actor playing that role. Whatever your political thing is, it interferes with the storytelling.” More specifically, if an actor were gay in a straight role, he admits he might be similarly distracted. But then he said: “I saw Sean [Hayes] on Broadway [in Promises, Promises] and the only distraction was that I sometimes saw the character that he played on Will & Grace but I totally bought him as a straight guy.” (continued)
Now I was really confused and asked: “Would you cast an openly gay actor as a romantic lead in a straight role? Would you be the one to do it?” Roos: “That’s hypothetical. It would really depend.” “Cheyenne Jackson?” I suggested. Roos: “I would have to know what the part is.” So he’s open to it? “Oh, I’m open to it, absolutely. What I’m talking about in a more general sense is only romantic leads. That’s a relationship they can have with the audience that it’s distracting whatever they know about you.” He’s still got the romantic leading man block but, thankfully, he is not willing to make some kind of blanket rule about not casting gays as straight and straight as gay. “As a director, as a casting person … if someone comes in and you fall in love with them, you don’t care anything about them … if they embody what your vision is, you go for them. … I think sometimes it’s a little hurdle for the audience but if I love the guy, I’m willing to take my chances. My films are all very counter-culture films anyway, it doesn’t really matter in my world.”
Much more clear during the panel were the feelings of openly gay actor Jonathan Slavin who most recently was a regular on the ABC sitcom Better off Ted. He thinks it is time for someone in a position of power to make the leap of casting a gay actor in a major movie lead. “Don’t you think that there were people who said to Sidney Poitier that an audience is never going to accept a black man as the lead of a film?” he said during the panel. “At a certain point, you have to just cast (gay actors) and grab the reins and move forward and see what happens. It is about taking risks and taking risks and not waiting until it’s safe. We’re accommodating a narrow-minded mentality. "
With all due respect, I think Don is wrong. Dead wrong. Let him tell it, the audience will always be homophobic and therefore actors who want romantic roles should stay in the closet FOREVER.
Testing a Neil Patrick Harris or whatever has never been done in Hollywood. Just remember, Dan Roos’ rhetoric was the same people used when they said black actors couldn’t open movies. We now have Will Smith, Halle Berry, Sam Jackson, Denzel and so on.
Does he really think the public cares as much as he seems to? I have yet to hear the public complain about Jonathan Groff playing straight on Glee, or NPH’s performance on HIMYM. They don’t seem, “distracted” to me.
Joan Rivers said something to Don Roos’ effect about singers. Yet, I keep hearing about Adam Lambert selling out his concerts. Who’s his audience? Teenage girls. Why are they buying tickets if they know they could never have him? Won't the fantasy be ruined? His music isn’t that good.
As far as his comparison that Natalie Portman couldn’t play a rancher just because she’s a vegan in real life–I assume he doesn’t think she’s a good actress. I know Leonardo DiCaprio has run through more fashion models than Lenny Kravitz to the factor of 50, but I believed Leo's performance as a lonely, guilt-ridden father in Inception over the weekend.
It would be hard for me to cast Natalie Portman as a woman rancher because she’s this crazy vegan. WTF???
MTE. So, basically, he can't separate actors from characters? Isn't acting all about becoming someone else? I find some of his statements totally bizarre. According to him, I guess Sean Penn shouldn't have played Harvey Milk :/
JGL: "I'd absolutely love to do more song-and-dance numbers... I don't want to spoil it, but there's something in the works, man, and I can't wait."
Awww, thanks for the link. I loved the vid with Zoe. She's reall pretty and talented, I think. I like when she plays a few notes of piano over his nose. :) JGL has a really interesting, attractive face - I love when a lock of his hair falls forward. :)
“I kept feeling distracted knowing that he wasn’t really gay,” Roos told me. “I was admiring him and thinking, ‘Oh my God, how well he’s playing that.’
Incredible to hear something like that from a professional writer-director.
ppeak 2010-07-20 11:28 pm UTC (link) Yep, as long as Hollywood keeps those actors in the closet, Outfest is planning on having this discussion year and after year until they (WE) see some changes. I work here in Hollywood, it really is ridiculous. And for some reason, they keep blaming THE PUBLIC. This isn't the public's fault. It's ours in Hollywood for not dealing with this properly.
the conventional wisdom is that it will ruin his chances of ever being a big movie star – especially if he wants those coveted romantic leading men roles.
I never could understand this line of thinking - when you see a movie, you get caught up in the story, and the only important thing is that the actor is a good actor. Why on earth should his personal life enter into it?
I wonder if JGL will be playing the Riddler? The original Riddler was slender like that, but JGL is cuter! And we don't need to be reminded how great Chris Nolan's Joker turned out. *swoon*
JGL as Riddler would fit. But I wouldn't bet he'll do as great a job as Heath did, no matter if Nolan is the director.
Heath's Joker is in a category all by himself in talent and hotness. But I look forward to a collaboration with Chris and JGL on a character. Very exciting.
But nothing will ever change unless HW is the impetus for change. Those homophobic people aren't going to change their attitudes on their own.
Exactly.
Roos is an idiot who is just proving once again that gay men in HW who are in decision-making positions are the gay community's worst enemy. Tlak about internalized homophobia.
When someone doesn't work in a role, it's because they are not a good enough actor or are miscast.
No, I meant it was Chris Nolan's vision and character that Heath brought to life. :)
They worked together, it was a shared vision. Heath kept a Joker journal, worked on the prosthetic idea with the team, worked on the Joker's voice and mannerisms for weeks, came up with the grungy look. A lot of what Heath did wasn't in the script. To give Nolan all the credit is unfair. The character is first and foremost the actor's.
You know what I'm liking a lot lately? These ensemble casts that directors are using - it's fun to see what characters they will become. Nolan and Michael Caine, Cillian Murphy, etc. and Scorsese and Leo.
One of the great things Heath did was make his character completely devoid of anything to sympathize with - I usually try to find that in a multi-dimensional villain, something that made him that way, so I can relate to the character in some way. But with Heath's Joker, there was nothing. How he got that emptiness in his eyes was amazing. A really incredible bit of acting. :)
How he got that emptiness in his eyes was amazing. A really incredible bit of acting.
I agree, I remember when I first saw the trailer (Dany had posted it on WFT), and at the end Joker roars 'come on, hit me!' to Batman. Joker's eyes look like how I imagine Satan's would, it's chilling. I don't know how Heath did it.
I know! :) TBH, that's what got me on my very first viewing of TDK - the Joker's pure evil. The one who gained my sympathy first was Harvey Dent. But I think the second time I just went mad for Joker, probably because he was so fascinating. Ha! :)
rawrrxitsxkelly: well that was depressing ): damn our gayness and love for Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger.
Vancouver's Queer Arts Festival's Queertopia is showing some of that love.
In 10 years the event has grown from a small community exhibit to a juried, 23-artist production. The art is varied and wild. Take Noel Silver’s loving, symbolist-meets-psychedelic painted portrait, Heath Ledger, which resurrects the star and reimagines him as a gay-friendly sex symbol, complete with a revealing skeleton-cowboy tank top.
*shiver* thanks for recapturing the feeling of the first TDK viewing! Joker is fearless and evil. The soundtrack adds a lot to the edgy feeling too. :) I love Christian as Batman, I forgot that Chris Nolan has worked with him many times too, and Ken Watanabe in Batman Begins also.
"'Sexual nihilism’ is the view that any sexual act between consenting partners - whatever their gender, species, relationship status, future plans, or thoughts about each other and about the nature of sexuality - is morally licit, to be encouraged, and has no more inherent purpose or meaning than the participants choose to give it. And that pleasure - whatever form it takes - is the ultimate good and purpose of the sex act."
Let's Listen in to Matt Bomer's Pillow Talk With a Lady
said...
Producers want White Collar viewers to believe Matt Bomer's Neal Caffrey is a lady's man. So how come the only kind of play he gets is fake? (Possible spoilers ahead.)
Following up the second season premiere (where Caffrey's flirtations with the opposite sex was just part of a scam), last night's episode had Caffrey in bed! Wearing robes! With a woman!
Too bad the lady is actually undercover FBI Special Agent Diana Lancing, and their hotel penthouse suite was just a stunt to convince some pimp she was actually an escort. (Sorry, but we're not doing episode recaps here, kiddos. There are blogs for that.) Which means Caffrey and Lancing were just faking the pillow talk. Oh, did we mention Lancing (played by Lost's Marsha Thomason, who is straight and married) is a lesbian? So we've got a gay man playing a charming straight man, and a straight woman playing a brass balled lesbian. Ramin Setoodeh will never sleep.
is gestures ping a little in some scenes, I think.
Well, the Joker likes to inflict pain, and he obviously derives a degree of sexual pleasure out of receiving it from Batman. He's a sado-masochist. Not sure if he's a gay leather queen, though. ;)
Does anyone else think that TDK Joker might be gay? His obsession with Batman, too. ;)
Not exclusively - the way he eyed Rachel up and down. I like to think he could take his pleasures with both sexes. Although I wondered if there was a bit of misogyny with Joker. No, he was misanthropic. I agree with the sexual nihilist theory. *swoon*
I think Heath would approve of Seth more than of Ryan Gosling. Gosling is a playah! Matti needs a teddybear, good guy as stepdad which Seth Rogen seems to be. But knowing Michelle's dating history, she'll go for the playah.
Seth Rogen is adorable but honestly, no disrespect, not many men would want a girlfriend with an half orphan kid. Especially when the dad is Heath Ledger.
Friday at the home of Tamara Weiss of Midnight Farm on Martha's Vineyard
Chris Fischer's business partner and co-owner of Beetlebung farm is getting married on July 31. Wonder if Jake knows them and if he will be at the wedding with Chris.
But who would risk tweeting about it and getting kicked out.
Seth Rogen is adorable but honestly, no disrespect, not many men would want a girlfriend with an half orphan kid. Especially when the dad is Heath Ledger.
Wow, exciting stuff on the horizon for Leo. I think he's never looked more appealing - he's more mature looking now and in the prime of his romantic lead life, both he and Johnny. Love the Rolling Stone cover.
These guys at 29 are just beginning their romantic leading man careers - and they've got a long career ahead of him.
Just look at Leo - I always loved him as an actor, but never found him sexy when he was young. Now, he's drop-dead, knees-weak sexy. He never looked better in Inception (except this RS cover!) :)
Heather Graham was all about sex. I read they had amazing sex.
I bet they did. Did you see Killing Me Softly? OMG, Heather's sex scenes with Joseph Fiennes are HOT! Both Heath and Heather are/were very sexual people.
The "Namath" project seems a little provincial. People in the other countries never heard of Namath and don't give a f*ck about him. Lesser actors, with less international appeal than Jake, I mean, would do better to play Namath for the US market.
LOL, Queerty again! I think USA should get some credit for supporting White Collar's stars and plots. Not to mention they've got one heck of a marketing department
LOL, ikr? USA has a very smart marketing department.
"I got to be wild and nuts, and I didn’t suffer as much as people do now, where they have to play it so safe that they ruin their credibility. I didn’t care what anyone thought…. It was also about avoiding the tornado of chaos, of potential downfall. It was, ‘Wow, how lucky are we to not have hung out with that crowd or done those things?’ My two main competitors in the beginning, the blond-haired kids I went to audition with, one hung himself and the other died of a heroin overdose… . I was never into drugs at all. There aren’t stories of me in a pool of my own vomit in a hotel room on the Hollywood Strip."
He sounds self-righteous, judgmental and callous about River Phoenix's and Jonathan Brandis's deaths. I read he's also pretentious. :/
LEONARDO DiCAPRIO has never been tempted to dabble in drugs after growing up on a heroin-riddled neighbourhood - and was left horrified when fellow actors HEATH LEDGER and RIVER PHOENIX died from overdoses.
The Titanic star was brought up by his mother in a Los Angeles suburb that was rife with drugs and prostitution.
And being exposed to substance abuse from an early age put DiCaprio off ever experimenting for himself.
He says, "I knew drugs were bad, even as a little kid. Seeing the effects that drugs had on my block, seeing heroin addicts, it made me think twice about ever getting involved in drugs.
"I was so horrified by what I saw drugs do to people that I never wanted anything to do with them. It's evil. Once you take that step and experiment, drugs take over your life. You are not yourself any more. That's something I never wanted."
And he cites the 1993 death of Phoenix from a heroin and cocaine overdose - and last year's (08) passing of Ledger from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs - as lasting reasons to steer clear of narcotics.
He adds, "Then, when I was a young actor, I saw other actors die of drugs. I watched what happened to River Phoenix, who was such an influence on me as a young actor.
"Now Heath Ledger has died young. It is such a horrifying thought to know that those guys aren't around any more. Every person has demons. We all have horrible fears and insecurities that we need to overcome."
I don't know, if it is then my bad again as it's not really a dig at Heath. But there's another interview where Leo talks about an actor who ODed (Christopher Pettiet again and not River as I thougt?) and his attitude is similar to the one he had in RS. When I have the time I'll try to find it.
He is. Doesn't he have a boyfriend and a "girlfriend"? Smart Giselle, she got out and got herself a hot man who seems very in love with her and a gorgeous baby.
Yeah, Giselle got herself a hottie and her babyboy is cute too. ;)
I already mentioned that I watched the SI press conf. Scorsese, Sir Ben are very eloquent, intelligent people. But one part I found funny was when Michelle was asked if Leo was a funny guy and Michelle was like "ahem, yeah, he's funny, as you can see". I laughed at Michelle's reaction. Leo wasn't funny at all. On the contrary, he takes himself way too seriously. But to stay fair, the guy's a decent actor and stars in some awesome movies. That's what counts anyway.
I wanted to add that I didn't have the feeling Leo and Michelle or Leo and Mark Ruffalo were friends IRL, but both had good chemistry with Leo on screen. Mark and Michelle are obviously friends. He called her "Mel" all the time. I noticed Leo is totally kissing up to Scorsese. And Sir Ben, as much as I like him, was totally kissing up to Scorsese and Leo. Lame.

I just wanna add my 2 cents here. I have been interested and apart of the Jake is bi/gay discussions for some time now. When I sat down and watched POP I first was taken how beautiful Jake's eyes were and the tit for tat with the female lead in the movie. Now I believe Jake to be either bi or gay, makes no difference to me, but 20 minutes after I left the movie I realized that I did not think of Jake as gay or bi or either about the Toothy rumors not once. I was that engrossed in the story and action. Now it was not the best movie, but my point is, the lead actors sexual preference did not enter my mind. Now in respect to Jake, I know all on these sites are speculation and he has not come out as gay or bi.
OT. How about than Ben Affleck? Crappy actor, very promising director it seems. His new film The Town is getting really strong buzz. He also directed Gone Baby Gone. Who would've thought?

Mark Ruffalo was a close friend of Heath's. There are pictures of Heath&Michelle with Mark when they went to see him in Awake and Sing on Broadway. I think Jake had gone the night before.

Busy on MV? She seems to be in Jake's vicinity a fair bit. Busy didn't tweet about the party but Amy Brenneman did. Rainy roof, roaring surf. Crazy great party tonight. Back to LA on Friday .. and back to Private Practice on Monday!!!
Because every time she wasn't working and Jake hung out with Busy Michelle was with them? Several sightings of Jake and Busy (sometimes with her family) and no Michelle or Matilda. I think you need to accept Jake and Busy are friends because they like each other and it has nothing to do with Heath, Michelle or Matilda.
Because every time she wasn't working and Jake hung out with Busy Michelle was with them?
Because Michelle lives on the East Coast and Busy lives on the West Coast and Busy and Michelle are close friends it is reasonable to assume that Michelle and Matilda would be on MV with Busy and Jake.

What is the basis for this, other than wishful thinking? Jake being Matilda's godfather? I notice you ignore the little fact than Jake was sighted with Busy a lot and no trace of Michelle and Matilda.
When did Jake say he and Michelle are friends? Quote, please. And don't give me Jake saying he got close to Heath and Michelle during the filming of BBM. I read that BBM Q&A report, it's telling enough.
Jake and Busy are friends + Jake and Michelle are friends = Jake, Busy and Michelle are friends.
it is reasonable to assume that Michelle and Matilda would be on MV with Busy and Jake.
Not necessarily. In HW when there's pics of two stars chatting on the street or at the same event, everyone pronounces them as friends; the term "friends" is very loosely applied in HW. Also just because people know each other or hang out at the same party or even with the same group doesn't mean they're friends. How many of you tolerate a friend of a friend because the friend in common enjoys spending time with both of you? Or you're on friendly terms with the friend of a friend but you really have nothing in common except for the friend? Yes, exactly....me too. We all do and actors are no different. There are different degrees of friendship, and each person and relationship has its limitations. We really don't know which ones apply to Jake with the others. Assuming they are all great close friends is unrealistic.

No one ever suggested that Busy and Jake are great and close friends, but Busy and Michelle are.
Poor posters who still can't except Heath, Michelle and Jake's friendship. I'm sure it is no fun waiting for Michelle, Matilda and Jake photos - heads will explode!
Poor posters who still can't except Heath, Michelle and Jake's friendship.
Still with J/H/M friendship? Heath ran away from BBM and Jake as fast as his legs could take him and got rid of Michelle as soon as he could so he could go back to his partying and hoes. There is nothing that shows Jake and Michelle are friends either. Keep on dreaming.
prollyjolly: @ChrisSosa I love Zodiac! Jake Gyllenhaal is wonderful, but we get to see Robert Downey Jr.'s bare legs, so... no contest. about 6 hours ago

«Oldest ‹Older 1401 – 1600 of 3159 Newer› Newest»I caught an interview he did with NPR the other day and he was quite articulate and spoke about Chris Nolan and Inception with a lot of depth. He sure didn't come across as a dim bulb to me :)
I've watched the Shutter Island press conference and he didn't come across as too bright to me. Sir Ben Kingsley, Marty Scorsese and even Mark Ruffalo did.
What'd ya give 'im a friggin' IQ test from ya computah, or what?
What, I don't have the right to voice my opinion on here? I did compliment his acting, didn't I?
Of course you do. :)
Of course you do. :)
TY.
Huh? Michelle looks fine.
Her face looks bloated.
Just finishing the edit.it's called Source Code, and Jake Gyllenhall is in it! Should be fun!

I would love tons of sex scenes and naked Jack and Ennis, but the first night in the tent sex scene was hotter than 100 suns and not seeing them naked made it even hotter.
Totally true!
1:58 pm: Huh? What is Ted saying?
That if wealthy men want children, they should never take a wife (alimony, child support, etc.).
I've watched the Shutter Island press conference and he didn't come across as too bright to me.
Well, you can't expect everyone to be intelligent, articulate, educated and beautiful as I!
That if wealthy men want children, they should never take a wife (alimony, child support, etc.).
Thanks 4:49 PM!

Would Leo do what Ricky and Ronaldo have done?

Hm, IDK. I personally think he'll impregnate one of his future young model girlfriends.

Jack's cat-in-heat back arch and Ennis' caveman growls are really, really hot.

Have you had your dose of estrogeon 9:12PM???

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams facebook
Mitchell enjoyed dining with the stars...

Openly Gay Director Still "Distracted" By Openly Gay Actors Playing Straight
By Greg Hernandez
“I was admiring him and thinking, ‘Oh my God, how well he’s playing that.’ The more I know about any actor about anything, the more distracting it is.”
“I’m just saying in general, the more I know about an actor and his personal life and his personal beliefs, the less useful it is to me as a director. Sometimes I’m distracted because I’m mad that it isn’t a gay actor playing that role. Whatever your political thing is, it interferes with the storytelling.”
More specifically, if an actor were gay in a straight role, he admits he might be similarly distracted.
Would you be the one to do it?”
Roos: “That’s hypothetical. It would really depend.”
“Cheyenne Jackson?” I suggested.
Roos: “I would have to know what the part is.”
So he’s open to it?
“Oh, I’m open to it, absolutely. What I’m talking about in a more general sense is only romantic leads. That’s a relationship they can have with the audience that it’s distracting whatever they know about you.”
He’s still got the romantic leading man block but, thankfully, he is not willing to make some kind of blanket rule about not casting gays as straight and straight as gay.

Is this dude serious?
It would be hard for me to cast Natalie Portman as a woman rancher because she’s this crazy vegan.
WTF???
Too bad Michelle is working.
Why bad? She's working with Seth Rogen. ;) Seth lost some weight. He's looking pretty good right now.
Too bad Michelle is working.
Why bad?
Because Michelle, Matilda, Busy Phillipps and Jake would likely hang out on MV if she wasn't working.

Yep, as long as Hollywood keeps those actors in the closet, Outfest is planning on having this discussion year and after year until they (WE) see some changes.
Homophobic people might decide not to pay and/or watch a movie with an openly gay lead actor or actress.
^^But they are in the minority, I would think? It's stupid thinking.
Be sure to scroll through comments - some interesting stuff :)
Matt Bomer Takes "Extra's" Rapid Fire Quiz
I wonder if JGL will be playing the Riddler? The original Riddler was slender like that, but JGL is cuter! And we don't need to be reminded how great Chris Nolan's Joker turned out. *swoon*
JGL as Riddler would fit. But I wouldn't bet he'll do as great a job as Heath did, no matter if Nolan is the director.
Homophobic people might decide not to pay and/or watch a movie with an openly gay lead actor or actress.
But nothing will ever change unless HW is the impetus for change. Those homophobic people aren't going to change their attitudes on their own.
Chris Nolan played the Joker????
But they are in the minority, I would think?
I don't know, I hope so.
It's a vicious circle: Hollywood wants to make money, gay actors want good careers, no one wants to take a chance and try to break the circle.
Chris Nolan played the Joker????
LOL, a poster seems to think so. ;)
True Bromance :)
No, I meant it was Chris Nolan's vision and character that Heath brought to life. :)
I know, I think a lot of the homophobia lies within HW sometimes. :-/
Yes. :)
Ha! :)
Heath Talking About the Joker
^^OMG, the guy is hotness personified - that jawline, that hairline, that rumbling voice. I miss him. :)
rawrrxitsxkelly: well that was depressing ): damn our gayness and love for Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger.

Here's what I mean about Joker's Satan eyes, right at the end. Really creepy.
The Dark Knight Trailer
Heath was a great actor, no doubt about that. And Heath himself was very enigmatic. He was an interesting character. Shame that he left so soon.
*shiver* thanks for recapturing the feeling of the first TDK viewing! Joker is fearless and evil. The soundtrack adds a lot to the edgy feeling too. :)
I love Christian as Batman, I forgot that Chris Nolan has worked with him many times too, and Ken Watanabe in Batman Begins also.
TDK OST is great.
Does anyone else think that TDK Joker might be gay? His obsession with Batman, too. ;)
Joker is definately very scary at times.. but I know that sweet, beautiful Heath is under there.
He was brilliant in TDK. I think he played Joker as sexual nihilist, not gay.
I think he played Joker as sexual nihilist, not gay.
His gestures ping a little in some scenes, I think. But now that you say it, sexual nihilism makes perfect sense.
Queerty
Suddenly I have the strong believe that Seth Rogen & Michelle could make an awesome couple! :)
I wonder if Heath would aprove...
is gestures ping a little in some scenes, I think.
*swoon*
I wonder if Heath would aprove...
No.
Ramin Setoodeh will never sleep.
LMAO. Neither will Don Roos. They can keep each other company while they pace back and forth at 3AM.
I wonder if Heath would aprove...
I think Heath would approve of Seth more than of Ryan Gosling. Gosling is a playah! Matti needs a teddybear, good guy as stepdad which Seth Rogen seems to be. But knowing Michelle's dating history, she'll go for the playah.
Gosling is a playah!
Pfft, Ryan Gosling is nothing compared to Heath. Now he was a player.
Pfft, Ryan Gosling is nothing compared to Heath. Now he was a player.
Can't argue with that. But I think he convinced himself he was in love each time. Naomi?
Pfft, Ryan Gosling is nothing compared to Heath. Now he was a player.
Well, yeah, that's certainly true.
Seth Rogen is adorable but honestly, no disrespect, not many men would want a girlfriend with an half orphan kid. Especially when the dad is Heath Ledger.

Of course Jake knows them, how could Jake not know them?

He seemed genuinely in love with Naomi. Michelle...I'm not so sure.

Is this the face of a Bat-criminal, or what? :)
The Riddler?????
Wow, exciting stuff on the horizon for Leo. I think he's never looked more appealing - he's more mature looking now and in the prime of his romantic lead life, both he and Johnny. Love the Rolling Stone cover.
1:10 PM, we had the same idea. :)
Great minds... and great timing :)
So, what projects has our "Price of Persia" lined up? What's happening to Jake's career?
A lot of great and exciting things, but I'm not at liberty to discuss them yet!
With that hairdo, Leo looks like a Ken-doll on that RS cover.
IDK...there is something about him that i don't like. He is definitely a star, though.
LOL, Queerty again!
I think USA should get some credit for supporting White Collar's stars and plots. Not to mention they've got one heck of a marketing department.

I bet they did. Did you see Killing Me Softly? OMG, Heather's sex scenes with Joseph Fiennes are HOT! Both Heath and Heather are/were very sexual people.
So, what projects has our "Price of Persia" lined up?
Namath project, Damn Yankees maybe?
So, what projects has our "Price of Persia" lined up? What's happening to Jake's career?
Both LAOD and Source Code look promising. So it's not like there is nothing on the horizon for him.
Both Heath and Heather are/were very sexual people.
They did fit in that regard. ;)
True Bromance :)
Thank You!! I love it.
You're welcome. I saved that one :)
Leo on partying in the pre-tabloid/blog age:
Both LAOD and Source Code look promising.
Very much so. Looking forward to LaOD in particular.
Those may just be snippets from the RS interview with Leo?
Those may just be snippets from the RS interview with Leo?
He had the same attitude re. River's death in older interviews. He takes a dig at Heath too, I think.
:(
On a positive note, I may have fallen in fan-love...with JGL! *swoon*
re. Heath. It's not in the RS interview, in an interview from last year I think.
I hate that Leo lies about his drug use. Better not talk about it then lying about it and acting holier than thou.
My two main competitors in the beginning, the blond-haired kids I went to audition with, one hung himself and the other died of a heroin overdose…
He sounds like an asshole tbh.
My two main competitors in the beginning, the blond-haired kids I went to audition with, one hung himself and the other died of a heroin overdose…
Wow. Does he realize how cold this sounds?
Does he realize how cold this sounds?
Probably not.
Does he realize how cold this sounds?
I doubt he would say it if he didn't think it. It's not the first time he makes comments like this about River Phoenix and his death.
Leo isn't talking about River Phoenix in that article, he's talking about Christopher Pettiet.
re. Heath. It's not in the RS interview, in an interview from last year I think.
Is this the interview you're thinking of?
Leonardo Dicaprio - Dicaprio 'Horrified' By Ledger And Phoenix Deaths
I figured there was more to the story.
Leo isn't talking about River Phoenix in that article, he's talking about Christopher Pettiet.
Really? My bad then.
Is this the interview you're thinking of?
I don't know, if it is then my bad again as it's not really a dig at Heath. But there's another interview where Leo talks about an actor who ODed (Christopher Pettiet again and not River as I thougt?) and his attitude is similar to the one he had in RS. When I have the time I'll try to find it.
I like Leo as an actor, but he sometimes has that "I'm wiser than everyone else" attitude going on that's pretty annoying.
I figured there was more to the story.
How does what Leo says at 3:18 PM explain/excuse this comment?
"My two main competitors in the beginning, the blond-haired kids I went to audition with, one hung himself and the other died of a heroin overdose…"
Anyway you look at it, it's still a cold thing to say. Competitors are people, too.
Competitors??? WTF.
Liar, liar pants on fire. ;)
He is. Doesn't he have a boyfriend and a "girlfriend"? Smart Giselle, she got out and got herself a hot man who seems very in love with her and a gorgeous baby.
He's probably talking about Jonathan what's his name who starred in TV's Seaquest and Brad Renfro.
I don't understand why young, rich, gorgeous women would waste years of their lives on bearding. I guess more money and blind ambition are the answer.
Noooo. He's talking about Christopher Pettiet and Brandis.
He's talking about Christopher Pettiet and Brandis.
This pic makes his comment worse to me. Leo still sees this kid who died, this kid he knew as a then competitor? Wow, indeed.
Lame.
Just some of my observations.
4:37 PM.
Maybe all this will teach us to appreciate Jake more.
the conventional wisdom is that it will ruin his chances of ever being a big movie star – especially if he wants those coveted romantic leading men roles.
I never could understand this line of thinking - when you see a movie, you get caught up in the story, and the only important thing is that the actor is a good actor. Why on earth should his personal life enter into it?
Well, Leo must be relieved Heath died too because after what he did with the Joker he would've had his pick of the best roles for young actors.
Maybe all this will teach us to appreciate Jake more.
Yep.
Maybe all this will teach us to appreciate Jake more.
LOL. Perhaps. ;)
5:06 PM, Heath would have been on the A-List after TDK. And probably seen as one of the best young actors.
Not in Venice film festival line up:
Variety
Wasn't Heath (and Jake) already seen as one of the best young actors after BBM? I don't see how else he could've gotten a role like the Joker.
^^I hope LAOD is indeed as good as some of the early reports claimed it to be.
True, 5:14 PM # 2, but TDK would have sealed the deal for Heath imo.
Variety
:(
There is a poster who suggested the early reviews could have been plants. I hope you are NOT right. *shrugs*
I hope LAOD is indeed as good as some of the early reports claimed it to be.
Me too, I really do.
OT. How about than
Ben Affleck? Crappy actor, very promising director it seems. His new film The Town is getting really strong buzz. He also directed Gone Baby Gone. Who would've thought?

^^Very true.
I wanted to add that I didn't have the feeling Leo and Michelle or Leo and Mark Ruffalo were friends IRL, but both had good chemistry with Leo on screen. Mark and Michelle are obviously friends. He called her "Mel" all the time.
Mark Ruffalo was a close friend of Heath's. There are pictures of Heath&Michelle with Mark when they went to see him in Awake and Sing on Broadway. I think Jake had gone the night before.
Friday at the home of Tamara Weiss of Midnight Farm on Martha's Vineyard. Name dropping--impossible to resist...Tamara's husband cooked for Mitchell and Carly Simon, Jake Gyllenhall, Jim Belushi, Amy Brennerman (Private Practice/Judging Amy), Busy Phillipps (Cougartown), and NY restaurateur Keith McNally (Pulino's, Balthazar, Minetta Tavern...)...'
Busy on MV? She seems to be in Jake's vicinity a fair bit. Busy didn't tweet about the party but Amy Brenneman did.
Rainy roof, roaring surf. Crazy great party tonight. Back to LA on Friday .. and back to Private Practice on Monday!!!
Not fair that Michelle is working! :)
exapein: Jake Gyllenhaal needs to do a movie with Bradley Cooper asap.

Not fair that Michelle is working! :)
Jake and Busy are friends + Jake and Michelle are friends = Jake, Busy and Michelle are friends.
Because every time she wasn't working and Jake hung out with Busy Michelle was with them?
Because Michelle lives on the East Coast
and Busy lives on the West Coast
and Busy and Michelle are close friends
it is reasonable to assume that Michelle and Matilda would be on MV with Busy and Jake.
I had a dream that @leodicaprio came and implanted in my head that I never saw #inception. But I did. I think. I can't remember. SHIT!!

Rimming?! Flow?! Shit?!
Jake and Michelle are friends
What is the basis for this, other than wishful thinking? Jake being Matilda's godfather? I notice you ignore the little fact than Jake was sighted with Busy a lot and no trace of Michelle and Matilda.
What is the basis for this, other than wishful thinking?
Please don't play dumb, Jake said so.
it is reasonable to assume that Michelle and Matilda would be on MV with Busy and Jake.
LOL, this isn’t math. Jake and Michelle have friends in common + Jake and Michelle on the same coast =/= Michelle and Matilda would be on MV
Busy is/was probably there on vacation with her family.
LOL, this isn’t math.
It's common sense, Michelle and Busy are close friends.
Please don't play dumb, Jake said so.
When did Jake say he and Michelle are friends? Quote, please. And don't give me Jake saying he got close to Heath and Michelle during the filming of BBM. I read that BBM Q&A report, it's telling enough.
I notice you ignore the little fact than Jake was sighted with Busy a lot and no trace of Michelle and Matilda.
What number of sightings and photos has to do with friendship and family ties?
It's common sense
It's not common sense when it's been 5 years since BBM and there hasn't been one sighting of Jake and Michelle.
When did Jake say he and Michelle are friends? Quote, please.
Jake said it more than once, quotes and videos were posted on WFT2, look for them if you're interested.
What number of sightings and photos has to do with friendship and family ties?
Stop playing dumb.
Jake said it more than once, quotes and videos were posted on WFT2, look for them if you're interested.
I knew this would be your answer. ;)
It's not common sense when it's been 5 years since BBM and there hasn't been one sighting of Jake and Michelle.
It's common sense to expect that Michelle, Matilda and Busy would spend some time together on MV. Since Jake was there too ...
Why are you so terrified by the idea of Jake, Michelle and Matilda sighting?
5:03 AM, amen! Finally a reasonable post.
I knew this would be your answer. ;)
Good. Think what you want about Jake and Michelle, just don't pretend that Jake didn't talk about Michelle and Matilda.
It's common sense to expect that Michelle, Matilda and Busy would spend some time together on MV. Since Jake was there too ...
Um, no.
I'm not terrified at all, just that delusional brookies are a bit much now.
Why are you so terrified by the idea of Jake, Michelle and Matilda sighting?
4:58 AM, 5:01 AM - well?
I'm not terrified at all, just that delusional brookies are a bit much now.
Not even a nice try. What's next, are you trying to argue that Michelle and Busy aren't friends and we shouldn't expect them to hang out together?
just don't pretend that Jake didn't talk about Michelle and Matilda.
Jake said in GQ he talked to Michelle recently and that he sees Matilda when he can when her mother brings her to LA. Am I forgetting something?
5:06, thank you. I'm usually reasonable on Thursdays before noon EST but only if it's an even day in a month that starts with a J. ;)
There are different degrees of friendship, and each person and relationship has its limitations. We really don't know which ones apply to Jake with the others. Assuming they are all great close friends is unrealistic.
No one ever suggested that Busy and Jake are great and close friends, but Busy and Michelle are.
It's common sense to expect that Michelle, Matilda and Busy would spend some time together on MV. Since Jake was there too ...
Um, no.
LOL! No, Michelle and Busy would never get together if Jake is around too! Never ever!

LOL, poor brookies. Now Heath is dead they pin what's left of their BBM fantasy on Michelle and Matilda.
Poor posters who still can't except Heath, Michelle and Jake's friendship. I'm sure it is no fun waiting for Michelle, Matilda and Jake photos - heads will explode!
Hmm I wonder if he plays with Jake's toys.
*calls David Beckham*
Poor posters who still can't except Heath, Michelle and Jake's friendship.
Still with J/H/M friendship? Heath ran away from BBM and Jake as fast as his legs could take him and got rid of Michelle as soon as he could so he could go back to his partying and hoes. There is nothing that shows Jake and Michelle are friends either. Keep on dreaming.
There is nothing that shows Jake and Michelle are friends either.
Sure. Jake lies about Michelle and Matilda. Jake is friendly with Busy Philipps, but could never be friendy with Michelle. Sure.
Heath ran away from BBM and Jake as fast as his legs could take him ...
Run where? To Chateau Marmont to hang out with Jake?
Hi, Sanidina! Still at it?
prollyjolly: @ChrisSosa I love Zodiac! Jake Gyllenhaal is wonderful, but we get to see Robert Downey Jr.'s bare legs, so... no contest.

This horse is FABULOUS!
I wonder if Jake and RDJ fooled around. I read RDJ likes twinks.
Jake was 26, a bit too old for a twink ;)
