"Stop trying to pass off Shia LaBeouf—who looks a bit like the young George W. Bush—as the second coming of Tom Cruise. Stop casting Gerard Butler in roles where he is called upon to emote. And if "Legion" and "Edge of Darkness" and "The Back-up Plan" and "Hot Tub Time Machine" are the best you can do, stop making movies, period. Humanity will thank you for it."

"The age of the bankable, surefire matinee idol seems to be over, as the industry has discovered with Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts' most recent films. Freshly minted stars like Clive Owen and Daniel Craig sometimes open big, and sometimes do not open at all. With The Rock unconscionably defecting to the world of kiddie comedies, Hollywood is still casting about for a bona fide action star. This year it has auditioned Jake Gyllenhaal ("Prince of Persia"), Adrien Brody ("Predators") and even the game but superannuated Liam Neeson ("The A-Team"). None of these are logical heirs to the throne abandoned by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford and Sylvester Stallone. They are certainly not heirs to the throne vacated by Jet Li and Jackie Chan. They may not even be legitimate heirs to the throne vacated by Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme."

Jake's not better than Steven Seagal? Oi vey.

Jean-Claude Van Damme

Universal Soldier. Mmmmm.

Hollywood is still casting about for a bona fide action star

Maybe the public is tired of "action stars" especially male. I'm not impressed with any action/crashes/stunts anymore, whether they're new or not....yawn. Hollywood needs to give us some good, original stories and non-stereotypical characters. They also need to lose the "70 year old gross man with the 20 year old svelte female" love interest stories. It's so laughable and cookie-cutter boring.

Anonymous said...

Adding to my remark, IMO Hollywood needs to look more at published short stories for material instead of relying on formula-crap studio writers. Some of the BEST movies from the last 15 years were made from short stories: of course Brokeback Mountain, also A River Runs Through It, The Green Mile (it was published as a series of short stories) and The Shawshank Redemption to name a few.

Interesting take on Tom Hardy's comments by one gay blogger. Tom Hardy is the Even More Perfect Man.

...ANYWAY, Tom Hardy isn't saying he's gay, and he played a hardass in a movie and that doesn't necessarily translate into real life, BUT i think that there must be a lot of gay guys like myself in this world, who are fucking DYING to see just ONE faggot in the mainstream media playing these roles where he's a badass motherfucker. If Hugh Jackman had come out, that would be a good example since he plays Wolverine. Tom Hardy playing Charlie Bronson and then acting like it ain't no thing to be the effeminate man in a gay relationship is close enough for me, though- actually, it's EVEN BETTER, because Wolverine is kind of camp, and is not only a fictional character, but a COMIC BOOK character, while Charlie Bronson is REAL, and he is notoriously brutal.

Keep in mind, Hardy is only BEGINNING to come into the consciousness of Americans for his relatively small role in Inception, so this is dangerous shit for him to be doing, professionally- or so all the closet cases would have you believe. It will be interesting to see how his career does (or does not) in the near future. He's already proven he can play straight roles, so if he basically disappears that would indicate that the idea that American homophobia is so pronounced that it translates to bad box office is a legitimate fear, and that you really CAN'T get leading man work if you talk about your recreational love affair with the cock.

If he totally kills it, and becomes the first mainstream action star to make these kind of concessions regarding his sexual nature, then that's a big fucking deal, and could really change things. Can't wait to find out, but either way, thanks for the honesty, Tom Hardy. I hope that your candor and nonchalance in the matter proves to be the gamechanger that we've been waiting for, and that you are rewarded for your big fucking balls, but either way: You are a badass motherfucker.

Hmmm, the stern schoolmarm complaining about people picking on Jake. It must be UV, who has done nothing but bitch and moan this week about how everyone is making fun of Jake.

Haven't been there in months - making fun of him about the pothead thing or something else? Schoolmarm UV is ALWAYS in Jake/Jack defense mode, lol.

IA. The whole thing is hilarious. But someone posted the link to Towelroad over at DC Lashers, and some of them are just shocked! Their Jake wouldn't smoke pot - he's so health conscious! lol. But they're quick to point out that Heath is another story entirely, of course ;) Oh, and according to at least one Lasher there is "evidence" of Jake's straightness (looking down ladies shirts and liking blondes, lol).

The '90210' Dudes Talk About Gaying It Up Next Season

The CW's "90210" grabbed headlines earlier this month when it was announced one of the show's male characters would be revealed to be gay this upcoming season.

Blogger Greg In Hollywood was at last night's CW/CBS/Showtime party in Beverly Hills and spoke with the three actors whose characters could be leaping out of the closet soon: Matt Lanter (Liam), Trevor Donovan (Teddy), and Michael Steger (Navid). He asked each about this attention-grabbing storyline, but no one was willing to let the biggest detail slip: who exactly is going to come out this season?

“I do know [who is coming out]. I, however, cannot say,” Matt said. “I guarantee you someone is watching over my back right now. It’s a big secret. They sent us all emails and made sure we were very aware that we were not to talk about that secret.”

But Matt did have some thoughtful things to say about the plot development: “I think it’s a good thing. I think it’s an issue that is becoming more and more real in schools today, people are coming out more and more. I think it’s something that teens deal with and it can be done in a real way.”

“However they do it, I hope it holds some weight and I hope it’s not just like a one episode on, one episode off kind of deal,” he added. “I hope it’s something that they take seriously and I think they’re going to. That’s the plan so we’ll see.”

Matt has not yet played a gay role but he said he does not have an objection to doing so: “I think you have to find the right project to do it. I don’t think it’s something that you want to take lightly. I think it’s something that if you’re going to tackle as an actor, that you’ve got to do it right. You’ve got to give it your all. What [Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal] did with Brokeback Mountain was I really think changing for the industry, I think it really was. They’re both regarded as tremendous actors and they got a lot of respect for that and I respect them for that too.”

Trevor would also be glad to play gay and is impressed so far by how the show is developing the storyline.

“It’s exciting because the way they’re explaining it, it’s going to be written in a way where it’s really going to focus on the struggle of coming to fruition of who he is – whoever he is,” he said. “To tell you the truth, I would be honored and flattered and excited if it was me. Because not only would it be a great opportunity to sort of display and showcase your acting chops, but it’s also a great opportunity to struggle of coming to that fruition, the realization.”

“From what I understand, it’s going to be a process, it’s going to be an arc just like it is in real life, coming to terms with it and coming out,” Trevor added. “It’s a struggle and they really want to show that struggle. It’s not just, ‘Oh, I’m gay’ and show like the shock value of two guys kissing on network TV. They are going to write it intelligently and it’s going to be interesting.”

Regardless if Navid is the gay character, Michael will be playing gay on television anyway. He will guest on the Aug. 12 episode of HBO’s "True Blood" and his character is gay.

As for the "90210" plotline, he said: “I think it’s going to be interesting because last year they dealt with Adrianna [Jessica Lowndes] experimenting. This year it’s going to be on a much more serious level and it’s going to run a while arc of the show so it’s going to be much more compelling for audience members and they’re going to be shocked to find out.”

Stephen G made a movie against weed, with Hank Azaria and Chin's former husband.
Now, if Jake became a pothead, you're also saying SG and Mama Foner are the greatest hypocrites?

I thought she already was out said...

(I swear I saw something on TV a couple years ago when they were interviewing all the actors from the old "Roseanne' show and they showed her at home with her partner and kids.)

Sara Gilbert Comes Out

Sara Gilbert is executive-producing and starring in a new talk show focusing on the lives of mothers on which she will openly discuss her home life — including her partner and their kids. And while it may elicit a big 'no kidding' from her fans, Gilbert felt it was important to come out officially as a lesbian.

Previously, Gilbert had shied away from publicly discussing her sexuality, though it was something of an open secret in Hollywood. Now, with The Talk set to focus on the real-life experiences of mothers, she said she feels it’s appropriate to officially come out, and she did so over the weekend at a press conference for the Television Critics Association.

CBS caused a bit of controversy with the show’s official press release, which had no mention of Gilbert’s partner. However, the actress defended the network at this week’s Television Critics Association luncheon, saying the omission was her call.

“I’m going to be discussing my life more, and I felt that the first place I wanted to do it wasn’t in a CBS press release. It just seemed impersonal, and I felt like I’d rather come in person and talk to you about all that stuff here,” she said.

WHAT ONTD FAVORITE MAY BE ON THE AIR EVEN LONGER?? - WHY, ITS RELEVANT EMMY WORTHY RATINGS SMASH HIT ONE TREE HILL!

Me: “Is this the final season for “One Tree Hill”?”

Ostroff: “I have to be honest. Mark Schwahn is amazing. He has pulled rabbits out of the hat over and over and over again. The viewers are still there and passionate for us. And it’s not just what they watch on air. They’re streaming it (online). They’re DVRing it… It becomes a matter of, will he be able to do enough this season to keep the viewers real excited about it. If he does, and if they are, we’re happy picking it up again… We’d be game if it is still working.”

So there you go. Do with that what you will.

Many of the locals close to the show have hinted that this season would be its final year, pointing to expiring contracts for much of the original cast and crew. But we’ve heard that before. Could this show survive without Sophia Bush? Without James Lafferty? Without Bethany Joy Galeotti? We may yet find out.

Of course, “One Tree Hill” is also returning to Tuesdays this fall, airing at 8 p.m. on The CW. Ostroff said part of the reason she moved “90210″ out of that slot was because it faced tough competition from the likes of “NCIS,” “The Biggest Loser” and “American Idol.” But she thinks “One Tree Hill” can handle it.

The fact that fans always find it and support it no matter where it is on the schedule makes “OTH” a versatile piece of their lineup, she said. “I swear we’ve had that show in 20 time periods,” Ostroff said.

Plus, it’s a good fit with returning drama “Life Unexpected,” which follows it at 9 p.m. “There’s a lot of similarity,” Ostroff said. “They’re both shows with a lot of heart.”

As for how successful she thought the last season was story-wise, coping with the loss of Hilarie Burton and Chad Micael Murray, she doesn’t think Schwahn has any regrets.

“I think he was very happy with the changes he made. I think he liked what he wound up doing.”

~~~~~~~
What does Twitter's most annoying tweeter (other than Kanye) have to say about this?
So the CW said they might not renew us for Season8, now they say they'd be happy to have Season9?? Something's fishy here...
I thought I'd read stories about Sara Gilbert in which she was open about her family too. No it wasn't a People cover, but that is not the only way to be out. Maybe they're just making this sound like news as a way to promote the show.
Great article about why Tom Hardy matters. It is dead on. Even if the Mad Max remake is a dog I'm going to do see it as many times as humanly possilbe. :-D
JGL - I have the impression he is enjoying the hype around his person right now. Reminds me of the hype around Jake G.'s person in 2005. I hope unlike Jake, he won't make some wrong choices during his "it boy" status. It's better being like DiCaprio (the way he's nowadays), choosing well and then go into hiding until he stars in another great film. It's better not flying too high and focus on the job. "It boy" status doesn't last forever and fans are fickle, one minute they love you the next they can drop you like a hot potatoe. Joe seems to be a nice guy, I wish him good luck with his career.
Are People Still Talking About Gyllenspoon?
Ugh, just when we were totally loving Jake Gyllenhaal again—and even tolerating Reese Witherspoon and her current squeeze—the Internet has to go and throw Gyllenspoon back in our faces with some shocking chatter.
Before you panic and prep yourselves for another onslaught of PDA-light coffee trips, the couple are so not getting back together—as much as they'd deny it, trust, there's still bad blood from that breakup. Nope, this new, "rumor-stopping" goss is all about why the couple split in the first place:
And it seems like it's a bunch of Camp Reese crap that has been making the columns the past 24 hours. No point further dishing on the dubious dirt, made by an "acquaintance" of the former couple, because it's actually completely off from what really happened between the once-tight twosome. Oh, and not to mention "completely false," according to a good pal to one member of the former Gyllenspoon.
First, you know the "acquaintance" was spewing some serious BS when he or she dished that the former couple were "smitten with each other" and "perfectly matched." We won't touch these last two, because honestly, we'd rather not see our breakfast again, but c'mon:
Does anyone think that Reese—who, in full-on manipulator mode, makes Angelina Jolie look like a media noobie—would end her ultra-A-list, über-tabloid-cover-friendly relaysh because she didn't like how Jake behaved behind closed doors?
Not us, babes.
And the reasoning the supposed source gave for why the usually so-willing-to-turn-a-blind-eye Reese was pushed over the edge? "She worried about her children" not exactly learning fab things from the arguably fab guy.
Sure, Reese is definitely a great mommy, we're not saying otherwise, but there are plenty of ways she could have hidden any of Jake's flaws from them—ya know, the same way she hides all her other secrets.
But how convenient of the source to let Reese off and blame Jake. Aren't you sick of seeing J.G. get beaten down in the press post-R.W.?
We definitely are, especially when he's the half of the former couple that should be bitchin' to the tabloids.
Blind Vice: Gay Star With No Shame? No Way!
With those somewhat closeted chicks Twyla Babe-Sucker and Venetia Vag-O-Matic still lurking behind their closet doors, how very refreshing is it to see Jerry Menage-e-No at least peek out from behind hers! Sure, Jerry's no Ellen DeGeneres, for sure, but Jerry's certainly got folks thinking she's preppin' to come kinda out super soon.
See, there's a gal who's already pretty much friggin' out there, sexually, and Jerry's buds are convinced this is the woman she's emulating, PR-wise:
Jodie Foster.
You know, the woman who's never really said one way or another but who mentions her "girlfriend" in acceptance speeches, and such. Never sues when the rags say she's gay, etc. And that's going to be precisely Jerry's style, according to her chums:
"She's not hiding it, but she won't answer relationship questions. She would never do a showmance—just doesn't think it's anyone's business about her personal life."
Also, like Foster did (for a while, at least), J.M. believes in being true to her gal. The lucky babe was all over the set of Jerry's recent hit movie, Imagined Proposal, coming to visit "all the time," say other castmembers.
Added the fellow actors: "[Jerry] is super open about it with cast and crew, and doesn't hide it with friends. Everyone in her circle knows."
Fabulous! But here's hoping Jerry decides to ultimately not take the Foster route and actually come out? I mean, who was Jodie really kidding all those years?
Maybe Sarah Palin, but we would imagine that's probably about it.
It Ain't: Jodie Foster, Emma Roberts, Sofia Vergara
Michael K is funny as hell and everyone is fair game to him in his own sweet way. He's no Perez. But he even takes potshots at gay rights campaigner and idol Lady GaGa, calling her CaCa.
He calls straights crack addict whores and writes so humorously that nobody with a functioning atom of sense thinks he has a malevolent bone in his body.
He knows Jake is gay and fronting, like everyone else does. And it's his blog and he can say so. And Jake can respond by bearding. So they're square.
MK is just a master of pseudo-bitchery and at least it's entertaining, unlike Jake's pathetic desperate look-at-me fauxmances.
Matt Bomer Interview said...
Confidence Man of Steel: Matt Bomer
Houston’s Matt Bomer is hustling up raves as a con artist gone good in TV’s red-hot ‘White Collar.’ Has the ex-next-Superman, channeling hometown heat and humility, at last learned to fly?
...
In person, Bomer looks a bit ruddier and slighter than on screen, more regular-guy; he’s one of those performers who seem to conduct electricity in front of a camera. In conversation, he’s engaged and engaging, with an actor’s expansiveness—much animation, many hand gestures—and a screenwriter’s vocabulary (he calls living in New York City after 9/11 “a diaspora” and the People accolade “flattering, but not a meritocratic achievement”). Overall, his vibe is that of the high-school jock everybody liked, who sat in the back of the cafeteria drawing in his notebook. Which is essentially what he was.
...
At Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, he majored in theater and music, then moved to New York City, where he landed in early workshops of the Broadway hits Spring Awakening, Grey Gardens and Thoroughly Modern Millie. After 9/11, precarious finances forced him to drop out of the latter and take a job on Guiding Light; a year on the soap led to an audition for Superman Returns. “I screen-tested in the tights. The director wanted to hire me,” he says. “I was going to sign the three-picture deal.”
Then director Brett Ratner left the project, and Bomer was dropped in favor of another unknown, Brandon Routh. “They never told me why,” he says, and it’s only here that his tone wavers from completely upbeat. “I think it was a creative decision that was way above my head. Brett Ratner probably knows, and the creators probably know.” Did it bum him out? “Maybe for the first year or so. But I’m a huge believer—and I think you have to be, to stay sane in this industry—that everything happens for a reason. So many amazing things have happened in my life because that job didn’t work out.
“Maybe it’s because my parents are very strong Christians and have a really firm set of morals,” he adds, “but it was always ingrained in me that you never based your ego on what you do, or what happens to you. I never started thinking, ‘Oh God, I’m it, man.’ But I started to believe in myself on some level.”
...
In his spare time (he flies back to L.A. on weekends), Bomer writes (frustrated by the capriciousness of TV executives, he penned a pilot called Nashville, which attracted the attention of Brad Paisley), hangs out in a downtown jazz club (“I like to think it’s something Neal would do”), plugs into pop culture (the Scissor Sisters and Janelle Monae are on his iPod) and meditates in the parks on Manhattan’s west side. “I’ll sit out there, read, watch the sunset,” he says, “and remind myself of the things that are really important in life: family, friends, the people who are special to me.”
Turns out that is a subject—the special people—about which Bomer will say little. (Interviewers by now have learned not to take it personally. Last year, a Details writer probed as the actor steadfastly declined to comment. “I have a show and a network on my shoulders,” he said, explaining his silence.) But now that Collar is more established, as is Bomer, can he talk more freely about his personal life?
“No, because it’s personal,” he says with a laugh. “There are a lot of reasons. But the biggest reason is that my personal life is what’s most sacred to me, and I want it to stay sacred. It’s also the source of my greatest happiness. But the other people in my life didn’t necessarily choose to be in the spotlight. So for me to drag them into it would be inconsiderate, to say the least.”
...
Matt Bomer Interview said...
He says this with great confidence and self-assurance; it’s something he’s clearly given thought to. “In terms of the profession in general, it’s not anything I’m afraid of,” Bomer continues. “Anyone who knows me, knows me—including everyone who’s on that set right around the corner. But when I look at actors onscreen, my favorites are the ones I can watch without thinking of the picture I just saw of them in the tabloids doing X, Y or Z. I can just get invested in the storytelling process.”
But it must be difficult, one might suggest, to avoid sharing the basic biographical information other actors mention so freely.
No, it’s really not,” he says. “I don’t feel shut in, or cramped, or that I hide anything in my life. I’ve lived my life very openly and honestly, and that’s how I like it. I go to work, and sit down with you and other people in the media and talk about things that have to do with the job, and I go home and have my real life. It’s a whole separate entity that I get to enjoy, and it gives me proper perspective on the billboards and subway signs and magazine covers and all that. It prioritizes my life.”
After White Collar wraps for the season, Bomer plans to do a play. After that, “I want to let the compass of my career not be navigated by fame or wealth but by risk and creativity,” he says. “In any medium, TV, film, theater. Ideally, I’d get to do all three of those.”
An hour has passed and Bomer has to get back to the set; dinner hasn’t advanced beyond coffee. The waitress is nonplussed. “You didn’t like the menu?” she says, mock-hurt. “Oh, I’m sure I’ll be back to eat here real soon,” says Bomer soothingly. He insists on paying the check, leaving a $15 tip against a $5 tab, and he reflects on how his Houston upbringing has surfaced today.
Just saw "Inception". That movie was GREAT. As far as I know Nolan wrote the film. What a creative mind. Cotillard's role reminded me of Michelle's in SI. While I think Michelle did a solid job, Cotillard was wonderful, very convincing. Ellen Page did as good job as well as DiCaprio. DiCaprio's characters lately aren't that "difficult" or challenging, but you can rely on him always giving a solid, passionate performance. JGL was surprisingly convincing in his role. His body and movements are way sexier than DiCaprio's. :D
I could have easily see other young actors in DiCaprio's role though, like Gosling or Jake.
The whole cast was amazing. I recommend the movie.
I was wondering, maybe The Jake Is A Pothead story was made up and floated by Reese's PR to explain his "low libido" with her. Why he was hardly ever affectionate with her, never gave her lusty "I want to fuck you" looks accidentally caught on camera, could keep his hands to himself, was detached and distant, non-caring, never opened doors, let her go first or waited for her, and always seemed like he'd rather be doing something else than be with her. You know, because he's a big ol pothead - not because he's gay.
Great interview with Bomer. I think if you read it very carefully he is probably being pretty honest. He says there are "lots of reasons" for keeping his personal life private--and only talks about one. He may honestly not want to talk about his life in detail--even if but for other reasons he would talk about who is in his life.
Similarly, he says he "lives" his life the way he wants, and that everyone, including the people he works with, know him. I think this is true or there would be no ring, no Shrek with stepson, and no sightings of him and family out and about.
He's a over the top campy bitch.
Just like a vicious drag queen with claws, ready to pounce on anyone. Oh , hell yeah, he's funny, actually, halarious.
But at others expense. This can be, for a lack of a better term, disturbing at times.
I'm not worried for or taking up for Jake because the guy digs his claws into everyone. No holes bared.
No, I'll take that back. Just like perez, some he won't touch.
A friend loved to be around this very outspoken, loud wisecracking psuedo friend who would make jokes on others while everyone would laugh because the person was so damn funny. One day my friend fell out with the jokester and was not speaking for a while, I asked why, what happened? He said she tried that shit on me (made a mockery out of with jokes and wisecracks) And I wasn't having it.. He loved the jokes and hijinx until he was the focus of it.
Here is what we do know so far. Leonardo DiCaprio is having a hell of a year. Whether or not the actors will agree is another story. Michael Douglas turned in a very good performance in Solitary Man, and will also charm audiences with Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Kevin Kline is making a run with The Extra Man. One of the best I’ve already seen is Ryan Gosling, who does his best work yet in Blue Valentine.
It's a tough schedule for sure, but White Collar doesn't film 12 months of the year, probably only half of that at the most? That's just a guess, though.
I was under the impression that he has been with Halls longer than the year or so he has been working on White Collar. But then that friend of his who outed them as a couple said they were "dating" so...hmm.
Bomer is lovely though. I've been a fan for years.
destiny said...
You've been a fan of Bomer's for years? Wow. Any of his earlier work you'd recommend checking out?
Regarding how long he's been with Simon, there was a thread on Datalounge (now cached--odd, it was good last month) from December of 2007 in which someone claimed to know him and said he had a 3 way with Bomer and a former boyfriend. This person said that Bomer was currently single. Then you have Halls in the article about surrogates describing himself as single, and I believe that was the January 2008 issue.
DL webcache for 2007 Bomer thread
White Collar started in the fall of 2009, but there was probably a gap of time between the pilot being made and it getting the green light. And filming for the fall would of have started what, in June or July of 2009, and they probably started even earlier than that working on the pr campaign for it. Would pr have been involved from the beginning?? Don't know. So best guess is that they met in 2008 or maybe even 2009. I know some people think he just worked up to wearing the ring, but my guess is he started wearing it around the time he got it.
BobNYC Fri, Jul 30, 2010, 4:02 PM
Disappointing? H3ll yes! Unexpected. Nah! Its called SPIN. The Spinmeisters will be working overtime starting with the expected "taken out of context." Shortly "misquoted" followed by "fabricated." All followed by public dating with a female, engagement and marriage. Leave time in between for lots of will-he won't-he, does-he doesn't-he speculation. I knew I shoulda gone into PR.
Jimmy Fury Fri, Jul 30, 2010, 5:34 PM
horse pucky. It was taken out of context to the extent that way too many bloggers were titling their posts "Tom Hardy is gay!" but the words "in my life" absolutely don't refer to an acting role. That's just absurd. There's not a bloody thing wrong with fluid sexuality. Most people aren't 100% straight or gay anyway. So sad that women can admit to that but men can't.
X Factor winner Joe McElderry reveals he is gay said...
X Factor winner Joe McElderry has revealed that he is gay, after hackers who broke into his account outed him on the internet.
The 19-year-old hit singer's sexuality was revealed as a joke on the social networking website Twitter, where it persuaded him to come out about his true feelings.
One message posted by the hackers read, 'It's been difficult living a lie for so many years...'
But after the initial shock subsided Geordie Joe felt encouraged to open up about his sexual orientation.
On his official website, he said: 'I have always been a very honest person and so it is important for me to continue to be honest.
'It has been the most amazing year so far and I feel so privileged. It’s also been a time of real self realisation and I feel as if I have grown up so much in these few months. 'There has been speculation about my sexuality in the past and I have always been honest at the time I have been asked.
'Over the past few weeks I have really had time to reflect and to realise who I am. I spoke to my friends and family about this in the last few days and it was important to do the same for you all as you have been so supportive.
'I have had nothing but support from you and many of you have been very open in saying that you will continue to support me whatever my sexuality. It is important to me to let you know first, so that you know the stories in the papers are true. I made the choice to speak openly about this.' He added: 'Everything is going well and I’m really happy to be able to move forward from here.' Joe says he was angry at the Twitter hackers at first but then looked at their message and thought 'Well, they're not that far from the truth.
'I think the Twitter thing was the point when I realised I was gay,' he told The Sun.
Joe who won The X Factor in 2009, with Cheryl Cole as his mentor, only disclosed his sexuality to his mother last week on a train journey from Newcastle to London.
'I'm feeling good about it, it's liberating. Now I can just get on with my life,' he said.
Joe, who had a girlfriend for three years while at school, says he has only begun thinking about his sexuality in the last few weeks.
'I thought "Actually, my feelings have changed - this is how I feel now." The penny has dropped,' he said.
Duncan Jones Offers Update on Source Code; Explains Why He Didn’t Direct Judge Dredd
(re PoP earnings):
Finally, Jones talks a lot about Moon, or more specifically, the aftermath of the film’s release and some of the things he’s learned about how the movie business really works.
"The crazy thing is the business side of things…It has earned nearly $9.5M so far, worldwide… it cost just under $5M to make… and yet we are STILL trying to pay back our initial investors. That was always one of the biggest priorities for me and it has been the most frustrating part about our apparent success. The lesson of the film business they don’t tell you in film school is this; if you make back everything you spent on making your movie, you’re still barely half-way to going into profit. That certainly educated the hell out of me!"
Could the bisexual double standard be coming to an end? Ya know, that it's totally ok (even encouraged) for a chick like Anna Paquin to swing both ways, but that no dude in H'wood would ever says he's dabbled in same-sex sex?
We were hopeful when it was reported that a rising T-town hunk, Inception's Tom Hardy, was speaking out about some "experimenting" in his past, helping to balance the bisexual seesaw between the ladies (Megan Fox, Lindsay Lohan, etc.) and the gentlemen (uh, can you think of one?).
But we got our hopes up for nothing, because it seems Hardy isn't as carefree and confident in his sexuality as we were led to believe:
First, let's hear what Tom supposedly dished: The Daily Mail quoted him as proudly saying that he's had sexual relations with another guy. "As a boy? Of course I have. I'm an actor for f--k's sake," Tom (who's now engaged to Charlotte Riley) gabbed before going on to reveal: "I've played with everything and everyone."
And hell, if we didn't love the badass Brit before, he definitely had our attention now. And it got better, as Tom, as the site quotes, smashed a stereotype that plagues the minds of all the DL dudes in T-town:
"I have definite feminine qualities, and a lot of gay men are incredibly masculine," Tom explained, emphasizing a point that people naively seem to buy into. And we said hell yes! Don't you think Toothy & Co. would be less concerned about being out and proud if they didn't worry that their action hero potential would be replaced with roles as Carrie's gay BF in the next Sex & The City installment?
But it seems Tom Hardy wasn't as willing to speak out as we thought—or, at least, he's not liking the headlines his off-hand comments made.
"It's all taken out of context," a source close to the rising star claimed after we asked about the article. Hmmm, we don't doubt that The Daily Mail likes to embellish occasionally, but how exactly were that many quotes misrepresented?
"He was discussing a gay role and quotes coming from the character," the same person defends.
Last time we checked IMDb, the only gay role Tom played was in RocknRolla opposite Gerard Butler. And he wasn't playing an actor; he was playing a mobster.
So disappointing. Isn't this the time to own those brave and fearless quotes about sexuality instead of blaming it all on the messenger messing things up?
Such a shame. We have a feeling Tom's relaxed ‘tude about the situation wouldn't have hurt his stud-factor one bit. You think others in Camp Tom felt the opposite?
A bizarre story only now circulating months after the couple split claims Reese Witherspoon dumped Jake Gyllenhaal because he smoked marijuana.
The rumor began with Janet Charlton’s Hollywood, the same embarrassing waste of HTML that announced Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor broke up (they did not), exaggerated an Amy Winehouse “crush” on Robert Pattinson, and concocted an absurd story that Stephanie Pratt suspected brother Spencer Pratt of masterminding her DUI arrest.
“Jake had a habit that Reese could not live with, and he wouldn’t give it up,” claims the site, sourcing the former couple’s “acquaintance.”
“He smoked way too much. And we’re not talking nicotine here.”
Charlton insists Witherspoon thought Gyllenhaal smoked too much pot, and that it’s the “real” reason behind the couple’s split.
Now the story is making the rounds among such sites as The Blemish.
The outlets don’t really care that it’s total nonsense.
They want us to believe that Witherspoon was happily attached to Gyllenhaal… until one day she realized he was a drug user and promptly dropped him? After a long-term relationship, during which Gyllenhaal famously charmed Witherspoon’s children?
We’re going to side with logic here, and not the so-called “acquaintance” Charlton cites.
A rep for Gyllenhaal tells Gossip Cop the report is “completely untrue.”
Sara Gilbert is NOT a Gay Poster Child said...
...
The biggest disappointment thus far was realizing how little Sara Gilbert, who has a new View-type talk show on CBS, apparently wants to have to do with the GLBT community, at least publicly. Turns out she was the reason the CBS didn't mention she had a partner in the press release the network sent out (and that included personal info about each of the five other women on the show).
Sara continued to ignore the topic of her family during the panel until Trish Bendix from AfterEllen finally asked about the press release and interestingly enough, it was Julie Chen (yes, Big Brother's Chenbot is on the show) who first used the word "lesbian" and finally got Sara to use her partner's name.
I honestly think the subject might not have come up if Trish hadn't asked. (Okay, I would have asked if Trish weren't here, but you get my point.)
Both during the panel and afterward, Sara insisted she was not a poster child for the gay community, that she thinks we can damage our own cause by making things too much about our sexuality and that she was a private person. Hey, I can respect being a private person, but, not to put you on the spot, Sara, if you are so private, why are you doing a television talk show about your being a mom? That seems, well, personal.
Honestly, as a gay person, it was hard not to feel vaguely insulted by Sara's attitude about the whole thing. Let's just say it doesn't look like she'll be following in Ellen or Rosie's footsteps just yet.
Huh. I was just telling someone that I thought Chelsea had grown into an attractive young woman :/
Anonymous said...
Chelsea is OK looking. People keep saying she's nice and that makes her attractive in my eyes.
Anonymous said...
She may be nice but she is horrendous looking.
Got to wonder again why Jake sticks with a manager he shares with Reese. She does not seem to have the will or the power to stop Reese from stabbing Jake in the back.
What??? Chelsa is pleasantly goofy-looking :)
Matt Bomer: Shooting Scenes in Soho! said...
Matt Bomer looks dapper on the set of White Collar on Friday (July 30) in New York City’s Soho neighborhood.
The 32-year-old actor shot scenes with co-star Tim DeKay and took a Blackberry break in between shooting scenes.
Matt is back to work after a fun trip to San Diego for Comic-Con - if you missed it, check out JustJared.com’s exclusive interview with him here or watch Matt and Tim get down to “Tik Tok”!
Destiny, the real question - is Jake aware of PR and PoP mistakes he made in the last 3 years?
I also find it very puzzling as to why Jake still hasn't fired his PR people and mangement and gone elswhere. It is unbelievable to imagine that Jake doesn't know what is written about him online at various sites. Several years ago Jake admitted to know about IHJ. He's forever on his phone and has said in interviews that his family and friends email interesting things about him, so he must definitely check out various gossip sites online-I mean he doesn't live in a bubble. He must know all the negativity and doubts about Reeke and for sure knows about POP perfermance. Also, whether Ted C is full of it or not, he is very well know and well read and for sure Jake knows what Ted writes about him. Just wish Jake would listen to what Ted and alot of people online are telling him.
Do you call Jake a Jew boy too?
Yes, Jake is a Jew boy too. And so are James Franco, Daniel Radcliffe, Zac Efron, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Adam Lambert, Adam Levine, Seth Rogen, Shia LaBeouf ...
Why bring up Chelsea's fiance's religion unless it bothers you.
You are crazy.
I read that^^ as a compliment to Chelsea and an endorsement of Judaism (and all the nice Jewish boys out there). Whoever got upset, swearing and cussing out people here, IMO you're way out of line. I bet you're the same "chip on the shoulder" poster who goes into a filthy-mouthed frenzy whenever a gay or gay friendly person here (or anywhere), affectionately calls a gay comrade a queen or any other funny description. LOL you must be a joy to hang around with.
Ahh 6:39. You have nothing else to do than to spew your venom here. If/when you stop drinking alcohol and directing your hatred towards non-confrontational anonymous pixels, you might be happier, maybe have something valuable to say, and I'd be willing to listen. Until then, no.
This week Alex Zane talks to bad boy-done-good British actor Tom Hardy, star of some of the biggest movies of the last couple of years. Tom discusses his eclectic past and his massive scene-stealing role in Christopher Nolan's Inception, and the mass secrecy behind the project as a whole.
ONTD - Alex Zane's Guest List - Tom Hardy
It's odd that someone needs to harp on it and point it out whenever the subject of someones ethnicity/religion/etc. comes up, whether it is said "affectionately" or not. You can always fall back on affection, when called out, no?
Anonymous said...
Just a word to the wise: if you are part of the groups mentioned above, you can use those terms, if you are not - it's an insult. Capiche?
It's not odd: It's true. I wrote that comment and I am the last person to be anti anything. If you can't understand the obvious reality, it doesn't make it "odd" that it has to be explained to you each time someone does make an affectionate reference.
Chelsea is Jake's pal, I bet Jake is there today.
Sure it's possible Jake could attend the wedding but just because you knew someone way-back-when, or know them socially, doesn't mean you participate in or be a guest at their wedding. Although OTOH some brides invite everyone they ever met to their big affair. One time my bf and I got a wedding invitation and it took us three days to figure out who the hell it was from. It was a casual friend who fell off the face of the earth two years earlier when she started going out with the guy. Plus it turns out we only knew her as her nickname; the wedding invite had her whole formal name which was totally unknown to us. You should have heard my bf and me for three days: "Who the fuck are these people?!" Anyway it's possible Jake was invited but just because they knew each other or for example, were papped having a conversation outside a store or go to dinner together doesn't mean they are great close friends.
7:37, sometimes a little humor goes a long way. Unless you are a complete insensitive clod, you have to have realized that those subjects are sensitive to some, and are best left alone. I'm not the original poster on this, but I have seen this routinely here, and Jackie always deletes them, thankfully.
Define "way-back-when". There was Jake, Chelsea and two guys restaurant sighting from October 2007.
To Ted's comments about Tom Hardy:
I really hoped that the supposed interview Tom Hardy did was true. Somehow I knew if it reached a wider audience it may be retracted for whatever reason, and we know what the reasons are. So I for one wanted the interview info to kind off stay underground and he builds his career. I know some won't like this attitude, but hey, it is what it is.
As Ted has stated, the double standard of women admitting to same sex interest and relations is excepted in a culture that criitcizes and denounces same sex interest in men. What total bullshit. My thoughts go further, and they are only my thoughts and opinions, is that Tom Hardy admitting he is bisexual or have dealt with or a same sex situation brings alot of attention to gays especially gay men who now wants to know everything about him and his sexual dealings. Noththing about Lindsey or Anna P.
Then comes the 100% straight or gay crowd who will say he's a freak and he's gay, not bi. Then the gays who boldly state that only women can be bi. Internet tabloids taking cheap shoots at him for fun, and this won't be the mainstream hetro tabs and websites, but the ones owned by "GAYS".
A true bisexual male star *will* speak up one day and I hoped it was Tom. But he would have to be a strong person as an actor and almost fearless. This is because he likes both sexes and does not consider himself gay, a double wammy for men. Straights or Gays may not like it and they **Will** react.
But, they left Lindsy, Anna, Megan and Angelina alone.
Oh, I forgot, it's sooo Cute and sexy. What about Ellen and Rosie?
You've been a fan of Bomer's for years? Wow. Any of his earlier work you'd recommend checking out?
I first saw him on "Tru Calling" where he played Eliza Dushku's love interest in the first season. He totally caught my attention so I've been a fan since. Obviously White Collar is the biggest thing he's done
I really loved "Traveler" that aired on ABC a few years ago. I was hoping that would be the show that ended up being his big break... unfortunately it was cancelled before it's time, but if you can hunt down the eight episodes, I recommend it.
He was also great on "Chuck" playing a spy named Bryce. Zachary Levi (who plays Chuck) had a lot of nice things to say about Matt in the DVD commentary. It was something along the lines of how one day God was like "I'm gonna make Matt Bomer and he'll be gorgeous and talented and he's so nice..." etc.
Obviously "White Collar" is his big break, but I'd definitely go back and watch some of his older stuff if you haven't seen it. :)
8:44, "way-back-when" is a subjective general point in time. You must be an awfully difficult person, or someone who does not understand English, if you can't figure that out. Your need to nitpick and argue over such a minor thing is baffling. It's obvious that you are ignoring the point of the entire comment and want to cause waves in order to get me upset. I don't. Goodbye.
Straights and gays don't like gays who lie about being bisexual and that won't change.
No one cares about bisexual women as long as they date men. I think Hollywood would have a problem with openly gay A or B list movie actress.
Neil Patrick Harris said he met Channing Tatum in the hot tub at Adam Shankman's house in Laguna Beach two summers ago.
Adam Shankman isn't going to have straight boys in his hot tub.
Tatum has seen some peen.
I liked him until he got married. He pissed me off because a friend of mine was working on one of his films and he would bring his boyfriend to the set--then he get married to a woman. WTF.
ONTD - a bit of Channing Tatum gossip
"way-back-when" and "or know them socially" COVERS your "But 'There was Jake, Chelsea and two guys restaurant sighting from October 2007' argument. Go get technical and petty somewhere else.
Tom Hardy for beginners said...
Any new reports about Tom Hardy having gay sex years after his "experiment phase"? :)
I read several months ago an account sent to Popbitch or Holy Moly in the UK that Tom apeared to be accosting a woman in a bar and she rejected him. This would be around the time he supposedly got together with Charlotte (?) Riley after dumping his other woman.
Then after the gay quotes came out but before subsequent predictable backpeddling from frantic PR agency and management, a couple of posts appeared on various blogs.
One as at Towleroad by a poster called True Words who suggested a fling with Hardy in 2007 in the UK. Another poster (apparently male) at Queerty claimed to have been intimate with Hardy during the filming of Inception.
