Gay Cowboys

A 33-year-old rancher, Mr. Glover comes from a family that has worked the land around Lusk for generations. His father still runs 300 head of cattle.

Seated at a table in the smoky Outpost Cafe alongside Highway 85, Mr. Glover laid out the story of a typical ranch-country boyhood: herding, branding, culling and haying, horses hobbled on picket lines and calves pulled forcibly from their mother's bodies during spring calving. Every summer Mr. Glover sets out with his brother in a panel truck carrying their two quarter horses, to compete in calf and steer roping competitions. "I never had any intention of leaving the cowboy lifestyle," Mr. Glover said. "Ranching is who I am."

Yet next month Mr. Glover will quit Lusk and that part of himself in order to move to the bright lights of Lander, Wyo. (population 6,864). "I don't really want to do it," Mr. Glover said. Yet he has to, he explained, if he ever wants to live his life openly. Like Jack Twist, the rodeo-loving character portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal in "Brokeback Mountain", Derrick Glover is gay.

"They always define it as coming out of the closet, but I don't consider myself to be out of the closet," Mr. Glover explained. There is a reason for that, he said. "Where I live, you can't really go out and be yourself. You couldn't go out together, two guys, as a couple and ever be accepted. It wasn't accepted in the past, it's still not, and I don't think it ever will be." That he and some of the others interviewed for this article were willing to be named and photographed was not without social and even physical risk.
***

When Mr. Ledger's character defiantly asserts, "I ain't queer," following a drunken coupling with Mr. Gyllenhaal's character in their sheepherder's tent, it seems clear that as much as he fears the loss of his cowboy machismo, he is equally scared to relinquish his physical safety once the two come down from Brokeback Mountain.

"I grew up with that same kind of fear and conflict," Ben Clark, a fourth- generation rancher from Jackson said on Tuesday. "Growing up, I never even dreamed that a real cowboy would be gay," Mr. Clark added. It is a belief in which he is not alone.

"I awakened to my same-sex attraction when I was 12," said Mr. Clark, who is now 42. "But I had no idea what to do about it, ever. I was raised in a ranching, rodeo world - wrangling, packing horses, riding bucking stock, working in hunting camps - but always with the sense that I had to conceal who I was because cowboys could never be gay."

The experience was "extremely, extremely lonely," Mr. Clark said, leaving him feeling so isolated that he more than once contemplated suicide. "I could not accept being gay because of the stereotypes that were drilled into me," he explained. "Gay men are emotionally weak. They are not real men. They are like women."

Like Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist in the film, Mr. Clark dated women for a time, bowing to the pressure to be "normal" although, unlike them, he never married and led a double life. There's a joke out here about how one goes about finding a gay man on the frontier. The punch line is deadpan: "Look for the wife and kids."

Fortunately, Mr. Clark said, "I never did get married, because I never wanted to hurt a woman like that."

"When I was in my 20's, I worked in a hunting camp for three years as a wrangler," Mr. Clark said. "I heard the jokes, but I kept my feelings inside. One of the hunters asked me, 'Have you been married before?' I told him no. And he gave me a look and said, 'Most of the guys who aren't married by now are getting involved with being hairdressers.'"
***

"I know there are a lot of gay guys in Cheyenne, and it's pretty much accepted, in a way," said Julie Tottingham, the manager of Corral West Ranchwear in Cheyenne, the city's largest purveyor of boot-cut Wranglers, ostrich-skin Tony Lamas and broad-brim buffalo-felt Stetsons. "But at the same time, a lot of our customers would be offended if a gay guy was in here shopping," Ms. Tottingham said. "They'd feel it's an insult to the cowboy way of life."

Among the locals who got an opportunity to see "Brokeback Mountain" at the screening in Jackson was Jade Beus, an openly gay former cowboy raised on a sheep ranch in Soda Springs, Idaho. "I had more or less that same experience," said Mr. Beus, referring to the characters' struggles. "Trying to find self-acceptance literally took me to a place where I thought I was such a bad person I once put a pistol to the roof of my mouth."

Mr. Beus, who now owns a heating and plumbing contracting company, is not certain what it was that prevented him from taking his own life. "But something clicked over," he said. "I believe greatly in a higher power and I realized He dealt me this particular hand," Mr. Beus said. "I'm a man's man. I'm not feminine at all. Other people might slander me for who I am, but I made a decision a long time ago that I'm not going through life hating myself because I love men."

I can't tell what it says but it looks like "Trannies" haha I know it isn't but it sure looks like it. Maybe someone who shops can id the bag/store. The 2 necklaces, they are long under his tee shirt. You can barely see there's something attached, so low it's hanging between where his cleavage is (what do you call that area between the tits on a guy?).

To those kissing Cantara's bum right now, fine, but just REMEMBER this is the same person that hates you all too.

Up to about a year/18 mnths ago (funnily enough in sweeter times for her and Poppa) WFT was constantly told how we were scum; she made it her crusade in life to spread that WFT was the bad guy with only nasty motivations and no real debate and tried endless tricks to smear and hopefully shut the blog down one way or another, censoring people.

She thought Jake Watch would easily outlive WFT and that Gay Jake would just go away. But here's what she found: you can't censor people's views. People should just remember that before trumping her opinions on Wall Street and where Poppa G got it all wrong. Pissed off/scorned much?

She has a right to her opinion but she doesn't have a right to mine; to me she's only a friend of her own self-interests and career.

No worries, we didn't forget that Cuntara is an enemy.

I don't like him either. I think part of his engagement for "saving" the environment is image. His image went down the toilet with his behaviour in the 90ies. Since his collaborations with Scorsese and his "fight" for a better environment he gained plus points from the public.

I still like him as an actor and am looking forward to Shutter Island and his chemistry with Michelle Williams who plays his wife. I read they'll have some emotional scenes together. Should be interesting.

This is a very poignant piece in the New York paper re: modern cowboys. Good luck to those guys, whatever path they choose.

I was thinking about Jake last night because Brokeback Mt was on UK TV. I really do think if BBM had won the Oscar for Best Film a good few people would have been prepared to come out on that euphoria.

I think what set them back is the ingrained homophobia of Hollywood, which on that night showed what it could do and yet couldn't bring itself to do. Then it threw a bone at Ang Lee as "Best Director", as a half-gesture that it knew the whole ensembled should have won as well.

I am still a little sad things didn't change for the more hopeful for people that night.

You can hate Leo all you want but he's a MUCH MUCH MUCH better actor than Jake. (No comparison) And he truly does have the A-list directors (Scorsese, hello?) waiting in line wanting to work with him.

Anonymous said...

Don't exaggerate, 3:10. I couldn't give a crap less if she hates me; but I do believe in giving credit where credit is due, and I think anyone agreeing with her, obviously were only speaking for themselves. All I'm saying is she as a publisher is smart and seems to know her sh*t.

Whatever dude, but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of readers that were here from oh, - years ago - DO give a crap about how much she painted everyone with the same brush who posted here. She might be "smart" and "know her shit" but she didn't earn the nickname "Cuntara" for being the voice of reason on banking and CEOs. If. only.

Try being around back in the day and then talk to people about "exaggerating".

I love this post - love the picture - like the American Gothic painting, and looking like our beautiful, but happy, Ennis and Jack. It's gorgeous! :)

I'm happy to see that Leo reaches out to people and doesn't preach to them, but makes them want to be a part of the solution to our environmental problems. He's done more than just about any actor for this cause, and he not only talks the talk, but walks the walk. Jake is starting to do that as well with his work with green schools, and speaking up about organic farming. Good for him!

Right, as he roams around Europe doing staged photo ops with Chinormica on private jets and then drives around LA in Chinormica's gas guzzling SUV's and Mercedes.

Anonymous said...

^^Honestly, who listens to DiCaprio anyway? My friends from school and college mostly laugh about actor's activities knowing it's mostly PR. Most people I know are very aware of the environmental problems and try to change individually to contribute to improvement. There are enough qualified people who are eager to educate people in this matter and encourage them to change their ways. No one needs some Hollywood actors to tell us that. They are there to entertain us in movies.

March 28 - Jake shopping for shoes in Beverly Hills

Anonymous said...

Never enough, never enough, 12:31. Who listens? Children for one. Maybe he wants to speak out about something that's important to him. Evidently Al Gore welcomed Leo's help, and that means a lot. You need to expand your limited horizons to realize there are other people in the world (too many, in fact) besides you and small group of friends. I don't believe it's only PR, and if it is, it's better than other kinds of PR, isn't it. And I said Jake was starting to make a difference, not that he's perfect. I give people points for trying at least.

Anonymous said...

Well, that's where I agree with you, it's better than other kinds of PR.

I realize that many people are not informed (enough) regarding environmental problems, but I doubt it will be acotors who'll influence their opinions (much). I think actions from government or teaching kids in schools about it would help more.

Will children listen to DiCaprio is another question.

You need to expand your limited horizons

Everyone needs to do this on a regular basis, don't you think?

P.S. I never mentioned Jake in my previous post, I talked about actors generally.

^Direct Witness: A report from the PoP set

I am very grateful to Sara Andrea for sending over to me details of a feature from yesterday's edition of Chile's leading newspaper, El Mercurio. In it, Alexander Witt, Director of Photography and Director of the 2nd Unit, spoke about his experiences of working on Prince of Persia under the watchful scrutiny of Disney and the Bruckheimer producers. The producers' approach clearly put pressure on everyone, Jake Gyllenhaal included, but director Mike Newell especially. Thanks, Sara, for your translation, which follows here:

'Direct Witness: Alexander Witt reveals the controversy of the new Disney super production

The Chilean filmmaker worked in the Second Unit of "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time", "Jake Gyllenhaal and the director even shouted to each other", he confesses from London where he is working in a new film with Russell Crowe.

His work is shooting the action scenes in Hollywood super productions, coordinating hundred of extras, stuntmen and even the stars themselves. It's a complex work, even dangerous. In Morocco, where he just finished shooting "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time", he was tied to safety harnesses more than once to supervise the sets (as seen in the photo).

But nothing, not even his 20-year experience in Hollywood, prepared him for the human problems he experienced in this Disney film, directed by Mike Newell and starring a muscular Jake Gyllenhaal, that will be released in 2010: "I really don't have the best memories of that movie", Witt confesses by phone from London.

"The biggest problem was that not even the director had an idea of how was the movie we were doing", says the 56-year-old Chilean about the $150 million dollar project that had him two month in the Sub-Saharian Africa at the end of 2008: "Mike Newell didn't have a good relationship with the producers and the script was re-written during the shooting which forced us to change [scenes and] even the scenes that I was directing", he remembers.

Witt shot intensely with Gyllenhaal. The Chilean [filmmaker] tells that the "Brokeback Mountain" actor lifted weights between takes to stay in shape and reveals that: "Sometimes Jake prefered to shoot with me. He and Mike didn't get along well and a couple of time they shouted at each other".

But what exhausted his patience was the producers that asked him changes that they hadn't discussed previously with the director: "It doesn't happen to me very often but at that point I said 'enough' and I kicked them out the set. Luckily my relationship with Mike was very good. He was very honest with me. He told me 'I don't know anything about action, so you will have to help me with this'. And so I did".'

:) for posting x 2, not PoP trouble

"What pisses me off is despite all these pic sets Jake's not getting any exposure on the web gossip sites. "

Frankly if I was actor, I would'nt mind not to get so much exposure on the web gossip site. I t's not really gratifying.

"I agree, it was a poor campaign. It doesn't seem to be helping either one of them."

So they are maso and want to ruin their career.

Huh ???? Mike Newell did Harry Potter 4 , Maybe not the most action movie but well there is action no ????

Anonymous said...

Didn't watch Harry Potter movies, but PoP is ALL about action, action scenes are the most important.

Anonymous said...

I think Jake preferred more Zodiac set than POP set lol

I was rather expecting fight between him and O russel than with Newell.

Jake said...

Getting those confidentiality agreements signed for the action scenes in my trailer is the most important!

Anonymous said...

So there were two directors on POP set ????

If directors have no power on this kind of movies and productors decide all , Jerry B should simply shout the movie on his own.

Anonymous said...

This is business, not art.

Producers bring the money and have the final decision. Everyone else works for them - including directors.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of Jerry B, does anyone watch CSI? Lawrence Fishburne is just so great in it - as the replacement for Grissom. I'm almost gonna say it's better, if I didn't like William Petersen so much. Fishburne's character is gorgeous, intellgent, more emotional. It's a great show. :)

Anonymous said...

Depends upon the director, but agree that is the case with a movie like PoP. I seriously doubt anyone tells Scorcese how to make his movies.

Mike Newell didn't have a good relationship with the producers

That's surprising.

Michelle Obama To Plant White House Edible Garden

Eleanor Roosevelt’s World War II-era Victory Garden was a shining example to Americans that they could grow their own food. And now Michelle Obama is following in her footsteps, taking up the cause by planting an 1,100 square foot edible garden on the South Lawn of the White House. Her hope is to educate children about locally grown food, inspiring them to eat healthier and encourage their families and community to follow suit.

I Love CSI! LF is great IA. I totally want to see him move up to Griss's position tho. Is it true George Eads is gay? Funny how all 3 CSIs are different. Don't care for Miami, altho I like the guy who plays Eric, it's too stylized, the females in stilettos, clingy tops and tight pants out in a grungy scene, yeah right. NY is good, love Gary Sinise, Hill Harper UNF even the doctor Robert Joy UNF (LOL) and the others but like Miami Melinda's character is always dressed up, hair perfect, low cut tops....gimme a break.

Also love Cold Case tho sometimes its depressing. Of all of them (the Bruckheimer produced shows) Cold Case has most gay storylines which is nice. Don't know if its Bruck produced but my new love is The Unit, great great show, hot guys, firearms, muscles UNF UNF UNF.

Oh yes! I love Cold Case, don't care much for the other CSI's because they don't seem as realistic as CSI LV, as you say. Driving Hummers, etc. Great about George Eads, I had heard that, and I love Catherine. I'll have to watch The Unit! :)

Looks like Jake and Chinormica were in the same parking garage but whether at the same day/time or together and papped walking separately I don't know. Strange if they were, if PR or sites themselves are now splitting the pix, feeling the Reeke negative feedback.

Anonymous said...

To me it looks like the longer Reeke goes on the more dislike they gather. Pics of them are beginning to get more negative comments than good ones. Reeke PR shoved so much Reeke at the public that more and more of the public is beginning to get annoyed at seeing them so much. While shopping at my local Stop and Shop yesterday, couldn't help but notice the many US mags with Reeke on the cover. They were pretty much untouched and the women who were either buying the rags or looking at them while on line were ignoring them in favor of rags with Jen Aninston or Brangelina on the cover. Looks like another wasted photo shoot for US magazine.

Anonymous said...

"I loved the gay storyline about the two cops on Cold Case, and there was a lesbian storyline on one, which was really sweet."

"Forever Blue" was the 2 cops, so sad, god I cried. The lesbian one, I missed or forgot that one, no wait was that the one that was in the 1930's? Geez, another tearjerker. There was also one in the 1950's where a girl liked to dress up as a guy and she got sent to an institution to get "normalized".

Have to say, I like Bruckheimer. Katzenberg not so much. Bruck seems a lot more gay friendly and down to earth. He gave us Top Gun, remember? He put up with his producing partner Don Simpson's drugs and sick sadistic sex habits. Brucks been around a long time, seems cool. Katzenberg OTOH to me seems slick. His Bank of America/MvA promo underhanded money scheme was just one more example.

I loved Forever Blue. Yes, I think the lesbian storyline was the one set in the 1930s and one woman was a jazz musician or a writer, and the other girl was involved with a guy but realized she loved this woman. It was biracial too. Really beautiful. I think there was a gay storyline with baseball players too. :)

"Why do you think his career is dead? He has 3 films coming out and at least one in the works."

Yes, but will any of those movies do anything for his career? Nailed will probably never see the light of day. And if it does, it sounds like it sucks. Brothers keeps getting a delayed release date. That may or may not be a good movie, but it's about the war in Iraq and people are tired of the war. Obama got elected because he said he would end the war. How many people really want to go watch a movie about war right now with all the problems going on. And POP. I still feel this will not be the huge mega blockbuster that Disney intended. Jake doesn't look princely and those pics don't make him look like an action hero. Plus the report from the guy from the set doesn't help promote POP either. So if Jake bearded to help his career and his image, I don't know if this is what he thought would happen. People still think he's gay, the more time goes on the more people think Reeke is fake and the only way he stays in the public eye is trailing after Reese. That is some career advancement.

What is the big holdup with his movies coming out?

With Brothers, maybe its just that at the moment who wants to see a depressing film about a war that everyone wishes wasn't happening, not the film for a severe recession - therefore its having difficulty getting a distribution deal.

With Nailed, well the film seemed pretty ropey from the start and again will probably have problems getting a distribtuion deal - if it ever gets to that stage.

With PoP, obviously needs alot of post production work, which doesn't really bode well, and they don't want it to be competing with 'stronger' films coming out this summer.

All in all a rather sorry state of affairs really.

Anonymous said...

Well if that's the reason, we've got a long wait. The recession is going to go on for a loooong time, the next big wave is the oppressive national credit card debt. I'm glad I'm not an actor, too stressful for me! And as far as J&R being photographed separately, if they truly are a couple why would they care what anyone thinks of them?

Don't think so, its just one of those amusing coincidences I think.

How gay it would be said...

I know a mother is supposed to accept her children as they are. But my son has one painful flaw -- he's straight.

I know, I know -- a mother is not supposed to have preset dreams that she expects her child to fulfill. And I tried. Believe me, for an entire 18 years of my son's life, I tried. I promised myself that I would accept my son no matter what path he chose. And since our little unit lives in Austin, blue heart of red Texas, there was always the danger that his path might take him into the Pi Kappa Alphas or the Republican Party. Still, I vowed that I would find a way to love my little Pike president of the Young Republicans. In his giant SUV. With the gun rack.

But, like so many of us, I am only human. How could I not dream of having a son who cared deeply about all the right things: fashion, musical theater, interior décor? But mostly a son who cared deeply about the most right thing of all: his mother? How could I not yearn for a son who would tell me that the bias cut emphasized my saddlebag thighs, that no one was staining concrete anymore, that the tiniest bit of white on the upper lids would open up my eyes and make me look 10 years younger? And now that California is handing out marriage licenses, what mother could resist the opportunity to micromanage a union in which both participants would obsess with her about whether the color theme celadon and peach or apple green and hot pink best expresses their love?

Bond girl Gemma Arterton kisses and tells

Gemma Arterton, the 23-year-old British actress who got hot and heavy with Daniel Craig last year in Quantum Of Solace, wants to set the record straight.

"I didn't tongue Jake Gyllenhaal," she laughs. In case you've missed all the hoo-ha lately, internet sites are reporting the actress French-kissed the Hollywood star while they were filming love scenes for the upcoming Disney epic, Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time.

"That was a misquote and a half," she says. "Somebody asked me if I used my tongue and I said, 'Well, I gave him a kiss and perhaps my tongue slipped' and I thought, 'Oh God no, what have I done?'

"And then they said that I tongued him, which I didn't. Which he's probably very upset about and Reese Witherspoon is also probably a bit upset as well. You know, you snogged my boyfriend. No I didn't, it was an accident."

Apparently it's not Arterton's first accident.

"Yeah, I think I did the same with Daniel [Craig]," she giggles. "I get so carried away and he is an incredible kisser." More peals of laughter.

Everything is carrying Arterton away these days. Two years ago she was just another graduate of Britain's prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, working at a make-up counter trying to pay the rent. Then she lands a plum role in St Trinian's and suddenly she's co-starring with people like Mischa Barton and Rupert Everett. Then, out of a crowd of 1500, she's picked to play Agent Fields in the new Bond film. Then Guy Ritchie wants her for RocknRolla and then she nabs Prince Of Persia (her first leading role).

The 20 Most Tempting Titles of 2009

(10) Nailed
Director: David O. Russell
Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Catherine Keener, Jessica Biel, Paul Reubens, Jon Stewart, Kirstie Alley

I don't know if it's due to the abuses inflicted on his cast and crew, but David O. Russell knows great comedy. And since misery loves company, he also knows how to assemble an awesome ensemble. This time his oddball choice of casting Jessica Biel is softened by the blow of a nail to her character's head -- and it's actually a central plot device that sends her character to Washington D.C., dizzy with a cause and into the arms of a willing senator, played by the ever-nailable Jake Gyllenhaal. As Russel's done with I Heart Huckabees and Flirting with Disaster, there's a troupe of underused comic supporters. Among them there's the pleasant coincidence of Jake actually being reunited with his still Lovely & Amazing co-star Catherine Keener after all that nasty police business and him having hit legal age.

Jake's career is not dead. Nailed will probably be a quirky comedy and we all know Jake is a good comedy actor. Brothers I'm not looking forward to but people have already given Tobey good reviews. As for PoP, it all depends on the post production and marketing. So far not a lot of buzz but it could prove to be an ok action movie. I do think there were problems on set but according to the second director's interview he pretty much "saved" the production. Note how he's the one who got along with Jake and threw out the producers. I read between the lines that he wsa actually the one who had problems with Mike N.

Jake needs a successful movie as soon as possible. I think PoP will be a BO success, but PoP alone won't bring good offers.

The 20 Most Tempting Titles of 2009

(19) Brothers
Director: Jim Sheridan

Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman

Brothers feud when one goes missing in Afghanistan and the other takes up with his wife. A purple heart won't heal that wound! Sounds a little Legends of the Fall but with, most importantly, Jake Gyllenhaal having sex with things. That's more than enough to merit a spot on this list, and it's far more enticing than his whole excursion to Persia -- not that I won't be along for that trip and every available photo op.

War movies can be a snore, but with Jake and Tobey, I'll be awake for every open-shirt musket wound. They still use muskets, right?

Clash of the Titans said...

Gemma Arteton will be the fantasy queen of 2010!

I’m such an idiot. I read this story in Empire a week ago from today when my subscribed copy came in really early but like a fool, I thought I knew the scoop already. As Empire tend to be kinda slow and all that and because of the nature of the print medium; any scoops they get early will be so hard to hold onto as a secret until their mag hits the shelves.

But they managed it this month and for some reason, I was confusing Gemma Arterton’s already filmed role in the fantasy epic Prince of Persia, with the story that mentioned she would be playing Lo in Louis Letterier’s remake of Clash of the Titans. Two different but very similar films and two very, very, very similar roles for the young British actress.

Some might say too similar, like playing Catwoman and Black Canary within a few months of each other.

Clash of the Titans will re-tell the adventures of Perseus, who embarked upon an epic quest to kill Medusa and the Kraken. As the character of Lo was not in the 1981 film, I’ve sought out Wiki for an explanation who tell me she was seduced by Zeus who used his magical powers to turn her into a cow to escape detection of her beauty.

Sound far fetched? Well people still believe The Virgin Mary delivered the son of God and all that, this shit was taken seriously once upon a time. Arteton spoke at the Empire Awards last night…

"The script is very different…Obviously the story is the story, but it’s much more about Perseus’ mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus, and things like that, so it feels a little more about him, and about the issues around that."

Sam Worthington stars in the movie which from the looks of things will be completely green screen (i.e. Zack Snyder’s 300). Filming looks like it will begin in three weeks in Tenerife for a March 26th, 2010 release. Prince of Persia will come out two months later.

'Dark Knight' wins big at Empire Awards

The Dark Knight was the big winner at last night's Jameson Empire Awards 2009.

The superhero sequel took home prizes for best film, actor (Christian Bale) and director (Christopher Nolan). The late Heath Ledger, who starred as the Joker in the comic book movie, was the recipient of a special tribute award.

"When you make a film like Dark Knight you really hope it reaches a lot of people, and Empire and its readers are really a great audience. Thank you very much," said Nolan via video message.

Latest Bond outing Quantum Of Solace won for best thriller, RocknRolla triumphed in the British film category, the comedy award went to Son Of Rambow, Wanted secured the sci-fi gong and Eden Lake was named best horror movie.

Other winners, voted for by readers of Empire magazine, included Helena Bonham Carter, who received the best actress award for Sweeney Todd, Mamma Mia! for best soundtrack and Gemma Arterton, who nabbed the newcomer gong.

Tobey Maguire in The Limit

Tobey Maguire may star in The Limit for Columbia Pictures.

Columbia is currently in talks to acquire Michael Cannell’s upcoming novel with Maguire playing Grand Prix drive Phil Hill, who went against his good friend and Ferrari teammate Wolfgang von Trips in the 1961 Drivers Championship. Tony Peckham will adapt the novel for the screen. Maguire will also produce.

Maguire hasn’t been in a big screen movie since the release of Spider-Man 3 in 2007. He returns to theaters later this year in Brothers with Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman.

Reese taped Ellen before her birthday. She taped Leno on 3/17 and Ellen on 3/18 after she returned from Europe. I know someone that works on the Ellen show, that was the only free day she had to tape the show. The Leno show aired the next day, 3/18. Reese was in NY last week to do PR for the movie. If she talked about the birthday dinner after premiere that was probably because she thought it would be after the premiere not the day before.

You people need to get with it, Ellen is not a live show, it is taped. Sometimes a week in advance. Reese taped that show the same time she taped Leno, which was 3/18, before her birthday, AFTER the Us story appeared online. She just returned from Europe.

Ok. For a second, I thought she has forgotten because she's menopausal.

Anonymous said...

If the Ellen show was taped before her birthday, they are talking in the past tense because they knew it would be aired after the birthday and it shows the beard is lying as usual.

Anonymous said...

They are talking in the past tense because they are pretending that the episode was taped after her b'day which it wasn't. Why does that not compute? That episode was taped 2 days after she returned from Europe, i know this for a fact because I know someone that works at Ellen and she taped in on 3/18, all of Ellens guests that week taped their shows a week before. Ellen IMO wanted to bring up Jake and wanted to use the birthday angle because she knew it was coming up. The reason she couldn't name the actors at the L.A. premiere is because she didn't attend it yut, duh. I watched the video, she stumbled and stammered on both the premiere and the b'day because neither happened yet. The Us story appeared online on 3/23, after the show was taped. Now if she mentioned the Saturday birthday with Maggie, etc., then it would be BS unless she knew then who would be attending.

Airing an episode that was taped earlier and the guest pretending otherwise is an old HW PR trick.

You notice that Ellen is the only talk show host that can manage to get Reese to mention Jake.

Anonymous said...

I think it was wrong for Ellen to mention Jake. I'm sure she must hear rumors about who is supposedly gay in HW, and can't believe nobody around her has ever talked about how Jake is bearding. It's like she's doing the dirty work for them, because to read the summary above, it was Ellen who kept bringing up Jake, not Reese. Why? Because her audience is made up of fraus that want to hear about relationships?

Of course Ellen is not going to do anything to out Jake, but I don't see why she has to give such support to a homophobic system.

Anonymous said...

Ellen IMO wanted to bring up Jake and wanted to use the birthday angle because she knew it was coming up.

Bullshit.

Ellen could ask about Jake and future birthday plans. Or their Euro tour. What would be problematic with that?
Instead Ellen decided to ask very specific questions about something in the future and Reese was making up the answers?!?

Doesn't make sense at all.

Anonymous said...

LOL, why didn't you say it right away?

You are just trying to turn Us Weekly "birthday party" fiction into reality and for that you need "they are pretending" time travel shit. Jeez.

Anonymous said...

You need to simmer down, it's just a dumb talk show that was taped on 3/18 and aired on 3/27 and Ellen and Reese were pretending that it was going to air after her birthday. Why don't you e-mail Ellen and ask her why does she tape her shows a week in advance and pretend otherwise and ask why she asked about her birthday instead of something else. I saw the video and she seem to bring it up to talk about turning 33. also by talking about something that didn't happen yet she could avoid talking about past things like the European tour, ior even past birthday which Reese probably asked not to, this way she could just play "goofy" and "cute".

You don't seem to get the point, talking about something that didn't happen yet is "safe" asking about things that actually happened or you read had happened, not safe because it would open up a can of worms. Her people let Ellen f=go that route because it was safe, thw Madlibs, the Laker pictures, that was fine but if she would get into, let's see: living together, engagement rumors, etc. That would be a problem, the cutesy b'day answers and her stumbling over who attended a premiere that didn't happen yet was fluff, a set up and done to avoid talking about him which she really didn't.

I actually believe he threw a party, why not? Friends do that all the time.
