Beard x 2

Dear Ted:
Since L. Armstrong and J. Gyllenhaal are friends, would you say Lance is to Kate Hudson what Jake is to Reese Witherspoon? Becky Bain did a great job in your absence, but still... welcome back!

Friends, Flames and Foes

June 4, 2008

And now a word about Jake Gyllenhaal, eternal boyish wonder, and Reese Witherspoon, Jen’s ol’ Friends sis. Cannot tell you how many folks have contacted, written, phoned, chased me down at screenings, Gelson’s, parties, just to find out what the ef’s up with these two. I’ve said it before, I’ll blab it again: nothing. Nothing save brilliance, mind you. I mean, Clooney, the hardest dude to nab in H'wood, could learn from this dude Gyllenhaal.

"They’re very, very good friends," remarked a Githerspoon source who knows the two beauties well. "They’re helping each other out right now through some rough spots, that’s it."

Jeez, what could be rougher than being young and gorgeous, unattached and gifted with stunning hair? What do these two have to complain about? OK, well Reese’s failed marriage with Ryan, for starters. And then, I suppose, if you were truly desperate, you could add Rendition to Jakey’s problematic past. But that’s really stretching it. My hunch? They’re supergood BFFs who don’t mind in the least when every People photog worth his or her anal-probe camera happens to hunt them down at myriad coffee clutches and Beverly Hills mansions. They’ll ride this one as long as they see fit. The gushing, hyperventilating press only makes them both more viable, far more than on their own.

Remember, Reese didn’t get that Oscar for nuthin’.

Jake says what he thinks people want him to say. He said he was single for the ladies one week before the Rome photos with Reese. Was he telling the truth because he's wasn't/isn't dating Reese or was he lying because he was dating her?

Anonymous said...

Do people seriously think Jake tells the truth all the time, or would feel obliged to about something like this? What's the point of these quotes?

Jake does not tell the truth all the time, but his quotes are important for the discussion.

Jake said they are just friends while he was in Rome. As we could see from the Rome pictures, he wasn't lying about that.

"Do people seriously think Jake tells the truth all the time, or would feel obliged to about something like this? What's the point of these quotes?"

The point is to understand that when an actor makes an statement,
he is telling us how he wants the world to see him.
When Jake portraits himself as a "family guy wannabe" he knows that saying it is not enough,he must to look like one too.
so, I don't think he ever thought about being openly gay or
bicurious or whatever

Anonymous said...

But we know he did think about it. Ted said so. And his quotes are inconsistent. What about the Jonathan Ross interview? At this point it's important for his career he's not gay? That might have killed it for Dany but it had the opposite effect for me.

Bisexual in Hollywood: OK for Girls, Not Guys

If Lindsay Lohan Comes Out as Bisexual, It May Not Hurt Her Career

There are lots of things Hollywood actors do to differentiate themselves. They color their hair, they take up causes, they develop drug problems. Could coming out as bisexual also be considered a career move?

Ever since the paparazzi captured them possibly kissing in Cannes, tabloids and blogs have been buzzing about whether or not Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson are more than just friends. At the MTV Movie Awards this week, bisexual reality TV star Tila Tequila jumped into the fray, telling Us magazine that the two should be open about their relationship and, "just go all out with it! ... If you're going to do something, do it all out."

Lohan's reps have yet to address the rumors. But the speculation has taken attention away from Lohan's less-than-stellar movie streak, substance abuse issues and fame-hungry mother, suggesting that if she were to come out as bisexual, it wouldn't be a big deal and could even be a boon for her career.

Female stars, including Angelina Jolie and Drew Barrymore, have revealed past relationships with women and haven't seen their careers hurt in the least because of it. But among male actors, owning up to experimentation is all but verboten. Why the double standard?

"I'm not sure what that's based on anymore, other than the idea that leading men have to be virile and masculine in order for them to be viable for big roles," said Corey Scholibo, arts and entertainment editor of The Advocate. "For women, it seems that women and, of course, men will still accept them if they admit to experimentation in the past."

Indeed, many in the industry and the audience find it titillating when a starlet (the better-looking, the better) says she's fooled around with the same sex, even if it was just for the cameras. Denise Richards rocketed to fame after making out with Neve Campbell in "Wild Things." Scarlett Johansson's sex scene with Penelope Cruz in Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" served as the major marketing point of that movie. When an actress reveals a real-life romantic relationship with a woman, tongues wag even more, but usually not to the detriment of her career.

In 2003, Jolie, who dated actress/model Jenny Shimizu in the 90s, told "20/20," "If I fell in love with a woman tomorrow, would I, you know, feel that it's OK and it's right to want to kiss her and touch her if I fell in love with her in that way? Yeah." That year, Jolie banked $12 million for her role in "Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life." Two years later, she made $20 million for starring in "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."

But the fact that actresses seem able to reveal bisexuality without negative repercussions may not point to acceptance as much as society's desire to see them, first and foremost, as sex objects. "It's great that women have more flexibility to experience those relationships without being penalized, but I think it's because women are taken less seriously in general," said Jennifer Baumgardner, author of "Look Both Ways: Bisexual Politics." "It's like, 'So what if they were fooling around?' When two men who were thought to be straight have sex, it's perceived as more serious."

Maybe that's why so few men in Hollywood are willing to talk about experimenting with other guys. Alan Cumming is the only major actor to call himself bisexual, but with his scrawny stature and preference for theater and indie flicks, he was classified as eccentric long before talking about his sexuality.

While E! online gossip columnist Ted Casablanca claims male actors "absolutely" fool around with the same sex as much as their female counterparts, he doubts he'll see a day when a hunky, A-list, alpha-male -- a Jake Gyllenhaal (who made waves when he starred as a gay cowboy in "Brokeback Mountain") or a Chace Crawford (the "Gossip Girl" pretty boy rumored to be gay) -- talks about it publicly.

"The public just doesn't know about it. It's still Hollywood's biggest, dirtiest secret -- absolutely always will be," Casablanca said. "The business is built on fantasy. If Joe is talking about how he likes to go around with Kenny, it doesn't work. But if Jenny wants to talk about getting it on with Katie, it sells tickets."

Casting directors and network executives contacted for this story were reluctant to talk about how the employability of actors, male and female, changes when they reveal they don't conform to the heterosexual norm. But while the bulk of bisexual Hollywood may still be in the closet, many gay actors have come out in recent years and haven't hurt their careers because of it.

"We've had a spate of them recently: David Hyde Pierce, Lance Bass; Neil Patrick Harris came out and still has his role as a womanizing man on 'How I Met Your Mother,'" Scholibo said. "Anytime someone comes out and says, 'I'm going to keep doing what I'm going to do,' it opens up the door for the public to accept a new kind of gayness which encompasses every kind of representation. But whether they owe it to us, I don't know."

In Lohan's case, revealing a relationship with a woman probably wouldn't affect her career one way or another. She's made so many headlines over the past year and a half that coming out as bisexual would just be another drop in the bucket. "Lindsay, she's a professional celebrity to a degree. Her last few movies haven't done so well; she's become an insurance problem. I'm not sure if we could judge her career's success or failure by this," Scholibo said. "There's a lot of speculation about Ellen Page right now. If she came out, that would be drastically different. If Scarlett Johansson came out, that would also be drastically different. But I don't think Lindsay can be an example of anything."

And as for Tequlia, who some speculate flaunts her bisexuality only because it bought her reality TV stardom and probably knows Lohan and Ronson as well as you and I: "She should just focus on her reality show," said publicist Lizzie Grubman. "If this is her only way to get press, then it's pathetic."

"Jake says what he thinks people want him to say."

Exactly, especially when his films flopped, his family started to fall apart and he was so transparently desperate to land a franchise. Disney was not going bankroll a 100 million franchise lead by an out gay man. Period. Desperation, loneliness and ambition can transform a man overnight.

I think it is possible that Jake got the PoP role in 2006.

Could be a co-star, doesn't have to be, just means female equivalent in the industry.

They forgot to mention that being BI is OK as long as it's just fooling around. Serious, longterm lesbian relationships wouldn't be taken so lightly.

Anonymous said...

^Very good point. Bisexual women are perceived as okay because everyone assumes they'll go back to d*ck. Bisexual men are not okay because everyone assumes they'll stick with the almighty d*ck too.

Anonymous said...

OK, having established that he is not bisexual, was he being quite calculating when he allowed people to think he was? 'It was meant as a way of saying it was important for Heath [Ledger, his co-star in Brokeback Mountain] and I to have the movie exist as the movie, but also to have people know it was two straight actors playing those parts.

Well, 1:22PM, the quotes express what Jake said. True or not, if he hasn't issued a denial, they stand.

Above, for example, is one of his most bullshit statements ever.

First, he basically admits he "allowed people to think" he was bisexual. The dishonesty of doing that, given his upbringing and thus understanding of what it would actually mean to be a gay leading man in Hollywood, is mind-boggling.

Next, he confuses the reason for his pose by suggesting he did it so BBM could exist as a movie (wtf? you need to float the possibility of being bi so the movie can work?). But then he confirms he's hetero and says that needs to be known so that audiences get that it's 2 str8 actors playing the parts. (Yeah, for awards season we need to know they're acting.)

Jake's not a genius, but this is incredibly bogus and offensive thinking, even for a young and foolish actor.

Make yourself "open to possibilities" to play a role and promote a film. But then stress that you are not "open to persuasion" so as to win praise for your acting and reassure soccer moms and frat boys you're really a straight arrow.

Nice.

Sure, actors act, but when the phoniness extends to this level, you wonder if there's any core of self-respect.

Not fair to compare, but hard not to: Jake is nice and "normal", stays off the drugs and the club scene, but compromises his integrity. Heath abuses pills, dresses and acts weird, battles all kinds of demons, wrecks his health and falls apart. Yet his integrity is never in question.

One dies young, the other goes on to date Princess of Plastic Reese Witherspoon and play the Prince of Persia.

12.22, wake up! Jake's A-list days are long gone....it was only a flicker during BBM.

Anonymous said...

@ 11:58

You have pretty much summed up Jake and all this bullshit surrounding him in one succinct post.

There is a reason why Heath's integrity was and never will be questioned. He was always true to himself. He never sold out to HW, not even in the beginning of his career. He wanted more for himself than that. He was always digging for the deeper meaning to his life. He wasn't perfect, never claimed to be and that's why he was so loved and admired.

Yes, I agree, it's hard not to compare, but when one doesn't have the cajones to (at the very least) say a few words in honor of a friends' memory and decides to go shopping instead (combined with everything else that has transpired), one's integrity is bound to be questioned.

Blind Spot - Jun 5, 2008

One Headline-Hereditary Blind Vice

Pork-Me Pop-Off, a veritable newbie to the barracuda-infested world of boldface names and gossip slinging, is poised to overtake his more famous sibling, Slurpa, an expert at infamy and clandestine canoodling. Only Pork-Me doesn’t really realize the dubious media powers he holds, how naïve...how very sweet!

See, Pork-Me, has had his troubles, too, just like Slurpa. He loves to be bad and lives to be loved, having never really been truly adored. And of course, it’s P.M.’s bad-boy ways that have begun to scratch and gnaw at Ms. Pop-Off’s notoriety, which she holds dearer than anyone or anything. This is not a joke in the least.

But Slurpa has just laughed laughed laughed at her sibling’s arguably pathetic attempts at upstaging her in the real-life episodes of Offspring Gone Wild, T-town’s regular chronicling of who’s acting up the best (and the most expensively). I’ll tell ya this much, though: She ain't gonna be chuckling much longer, as her current, rather tentative hold on the grizzly goss zeitgeist is about to change drastically, once it's revealed Pork-Me’s gal dumped him because she’s sick of him using her to hide something.

Like the fact that he’s gay.

Bad move Timberlake!

Has Justin Timberlake lost his mind? His handlers at Spyglass Entertainment had journalists at the "Love Guru" junket signing one of those Tom Cruise-ian ("do not stare at the star") contracts that demands, among other things, that the journalist not mention anything personal or private, destroy all materials not approved in advance, and make the freelancers personally liable for anything they might write about the guy.

Here it is from the contract, in legal chapter and verse: "All Material which Journalist intends to use first must be submitted to Company and Artist for approval. The print, negative, or other material embodying disapproved Material will be promptly destroyed by the Journalist." And this: "Journalist agrees not to disclose to anyone any confidential, personal, or private information about Artist, Artist’s family, or Artist’s personal relationships at any time." and this: "Journalist will be solely responsible for any and all other individual authorizations, releases, consents, clearances, licenses, and payments as may be necessary with respect to the use of the Material."

Paramount and Spyglass and Mike de Luca -- what's up with you guys? Why not just hand out pre-written publicity copy and make it easier on everyone involved? (Note to journalists: none of you should agree to sign such a ridiculous document. Hollywood will push you as far as it can. If you sign this, you can expect to see more of such nonsense.)

"There is a reason why Heath's integrity was and never will be questioned. He was always true to himself. He never sold out to HW, not even in the beginning of his career"

I'm sorry, but that is not true.
Heath got fame playing the "handsome boy" role at the beginning of his career even when he wasn't entirely happy with it,and then when he persuaded a more sofisticated role in BBM he try to convince the public that he was a serious husband and a father and that his life was dedicated to his family when in reality (we found out later with his death) he was a party goner and a well known philanderer.
I always prefered Heath over Jake,
he was the best actor in decades,
i was so sad when i heard he died and I think his lies were more about his insecurities than his hypocrisy, but he played Hollywood game too with not so good results and just because he is dead doesn't mean we have to applaud everything related to him and crucify Jake in comparison.

Heath wanted to have the purty homely wife to show off in events and behave like a single guy outside the public eye,he couldn't manage it. It was his life, i don't judge him but at least i'm sure if Reeke is a farce both Jake and Reese are aware of that, they might be mockering the fans but at least they don't lie to themselves.

not defending Jake or Reeke here, i'm just saying the kid is playing the game as much as anyone else in Hollywood.
He is an impostor and a walking fake but not the devil incarnated, people!
just my opinion.

when in reality (we found out later with his death) he was a party goner and a well known philanderer.

I never heard of him partying while he was with Michelle, after their break up he went partying to some of his favourite places in N.Y., but he was single.
It's not like Jake didn't party, while he was with Dunst and after that. You can see many pics of him going to and leaving night clubs.

Heath is the kind of guy who falls in love very easily. I believe he fell for Michelle and vice versa, I think it was genuine. Maybe he fell out of love again and other problems of which we don't know of contributed to the break up. Just take a look at some pictures how he and Michelle looked at each other, I think they were genuinely in love.

Still, two wrongs don't make a right and it's nothing to be proud about.

i'm just saying Heath wasn't the golden boy everybody thought he was, maybe he never really tried to act like he was but fans and the media pushed him in some level to represent that. All i think is we never really knew until his death that he was having such a rough time, even when he was still
living with his wife and kid.
I don't think he loved Michelle more than his other girlfriends but I consider her as an "official widow" and by homely i meant the antitesis of Lindsay Lohan or Britney to name a few.

and the Ophra show or the pictures when they look at each other with goofy smiles don't proove anything, remember how Brad Pitt used to look at jennifer anniston even when he was already banging Angelina, and Charlie Sheen talking about his now former wife all in looove, and then look what happened.
I do think Heath & Michelle were real, though. At least at the begining, but that's not the issue here.
My point is that there are not "real" Hollywood celebrities, we see what they want us to see and they are always selling an image and Jake can't afford being the exception if he wants to keep playing the game,
please don't think i was trashing Heath because that wasn't my intention.

T.R. Knight Surprised His Boyfriend Was Into Him

At yesterday's mass commitment ceremony in West Hollywood, Knight talked to Extra about his boyfriend Mark Cornelsen: "We've only been together for six months, so I think it's a little soon to consider marriage. It's bound to raise some eyebrows, but we love each other. He's an amazing guy. I was surprised he was interested! Even though he's not ready to tie the knot, Knight plans to do so someday. Michelle Williams Helps Fund Heath Ledger Scholarship

It's been five months since Heath Ledger's shocking death at age 28. But the young actor was still very much on the minds of his colleagues at Thursday night's Australians in Film 2008 Breakthrough Awards in Beverly Hills. The emotional highlight of the evening came when Gregor Jordan – who became good friends with Ledger after directing him in 1999's Two Hands – announced the formation of a Heath Ledger scholarship fund to help struggling Australian actors.

Long before the success of Brokeback Mountain, the director recalled, Ledger was just "your old, broke Aussie actor." Once, things got so bad, in fact, Jordan said he had to loan his friend a few hundred bucks. "The first thing he does with the money is go into a bar and buy everyone ... a round of drinks," remembered Jordan, who also worked with Ledger on Ned Kelly. "It is that generosity that somehow sums Heath up. When he had nothing, he still found a way to give to others."

A Generous Heart
While details of the scholarship are still "a little sketchy," Jordan admitted, the plan is to select one young Australian actor each year and give him or her the chance to "crack it" in Hollywood. (The first scholarship is due to be awarded in 2009.)

"It's going to involve a number of benefactors and there's been a lot of interest already," the director explained. His voice cracking with emotion, he added: "I was talking to Michelle Williams, his partner and the mother of his child, today and Michelle has said she would be very proud and happy to be the first benefactor." At that pronouncement, the crowd erupted in loud applause.

Although Ledger's father, Kim, could not attend, he did ask for a letter to be read aloud. "We know that Heath would be proud of his attachment to this scholarship," wrote the surviving Ledger. "[It] does what Heath has done personally during the last 10 years ..., [supporting] Australian actors, singers, directors or writers who seek to supply their talents to the U.S.A."

One of the night's honorees, Abbie Cornish, also paid tribute to Ledger, her costar in 2006's Candy. "Heath's a magical guy," she told PEOPLE. "Really incredible in every way – as a human being and as an artist."

'Jake Gyllenhaal: Is There a Pink Elephant In the Room?'

I don't believe in the theory that celebrities are fair game for being outed. Nor am I a big fan of gossip sites. In fact, I pretty much hate them. But QueerSighted artist-pal David Gilmore over at Pretty On the Outside.com has yet another amusing celebritorial about all the recent gossip swirl around Jake Gyllenhaal's sexuality.

I couldn't resist Gilmore's entertaining explanation of his illustration, so I'm sharing it with you below. By the way, as David says, this is super wishful thinking. Neither he nor I have any idea about the truth behind anything the pesky rumormongers are peddling.

"The expression there's an elephant in the room means an obvious truth that is being ignored. I think a pink elephant would appropriately apply to a gay person who is hiding his or her true self in plain sight.

Today there was an avalanche of gay speculation. Remember, it's just speculation. First was the news that Jake Gyllenhaal was gay, had been caught having sex with his bf in an SUV behind a chinese restaurant, and is going to have a baby with his partner. Holy Hot Homos! Where have I been?

Next came further speculation that Wentworth Miller had been seen out and about with TR Knight's ex boyfriend wearing matching flip flops. That's all the proof I need. Be still my pink heart.

Now all of this is probably super wishful thinking but it works for me. I'd love to see Chris Evans and Tom Brady going for a stroll in matching flip flops. That would be my Xanadu." *

Speak for yourself only please...I am personally no longer interested in Reeke especially since Ted has confirmed what I already felt all along. Yes there is, disappointed person! To watch the saga of Jake & Co unfold with like-minded people and the occasional trolls. Even if you've given up on Jake, it's still an interesting morality tale for our times.

And there's always the question of when he will finally say something about Heath.

^ Yeah, despite his behaviour I still want to see if he's going to say something. Even if I don't believe him.

He doesn't have to say anything. I for one don't care one way or the other.

I certainly won't believe anything he has to say at this point but just like you I’m curious to see IF he will say anything.

June 6, 2008 -- THE party Calvin Klein Inc. threw the other night for its new perfume, Secret Obsession, was supposed to be held at the Broome Street building where Heath Ledger died. But just minutes before it was to start, company reps e-mailed invitees that the event was canceled. Then they sent e-mails saying it was moved to Barolo on West Broadway. "People said the landlord of Heath's building had a problem, but it may have been because the Klein people thought it was in such bad taste to have it there," said an insider. Another guest said the substitute venue was a "mess" with "bright lighting, no music and angry guests."

Does anyone know when filming for PoP begins? Jake'll finish Nailed on Monday, will he have some days to relax before he starts filming PoP?

Jun. 04, 2008

The shoot must end June 22 to keep its cast members. "One more shutdown will kill the movie," according to a film executive quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

Capitol's head of business affairs, Ray Reyes, is quoted as saying there are two weeks left of filming in South Carolina before the production moves to Washington.

Perhaps Heath's fans can create his own fanblog?

The suggestion to ban Heath posts seems like an attempt at censorship, as well as a misunderstanding of what this site is.

Last time I looked, this wasn't a Jake fanblog, or a Heath fanblog. Aren’t there enough of those? I thought this was Waiting for Toothy 2, a loose and nicely bent place that’s about ... identity, truth, and the Hollywood way, as filtered through the life and times of Toothy and associates. If stuff about Heath helps to illuminate that, in a positive OR negative way, seems very legit to post it.

If WFT becomes nothing but Jake, it will be boring. It needs a villain (Reeeese), a flawed heroic figure (Heath), a dream (Austin), comic relief (trolls?), all and whatever elements that make a story worth following. I guess the wish of some here is for Jake to be the hero, full stop. Time will tell what Toothy does. But you can't become a hero without suffering slings and arrows (er, critical posts, the most interesting kind). And since this is Waiting for Toothy, Jake's not a hero yet...

Ledger’s daughter ‘entitled to fortune’

Heath Ledger’s daughter would be the sole beneficiary of his multimillion-dollar fortune under New York law, according to US experts, but WA law could see the money split with a Perth schoolgirl claimed to be the actor’s love child. In the latest round of squabbling over the late Hollywood star’s estate, US lawyers have claimed that under intestacy laws of New York and California, a child cannot be accidentally disinherited when a parent dies before updating their will.

Ledger, who died in January from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, drew up his will in 2003 before the birth of Matilda, leaving everything to his parents and sisters who live in Perth. In a significant new twist, US lawyers now claim Ledger’s last official will could be swept aside and his entire fortune handed to Matilda if it is challenged under New York law.

New York University law professors Joanna Grossman and Mitchell Gans claim that even if it was confirmed that Ledger fathered another daughter, she would lose out to Matilda as she would be unable to challenge the will under Australian laws. “New York’s intestacy laws lead us to a somewhat striking result,” they wrote in a paper published on a US legal website. “Matilda, who was omitted from her father’s will, would be entitled to everything.”

The argument the toddler would be entitled to her father’s fortune is based on a precedent in a 2003 New York probate case where a man’s entire estate was given to his infant daughter, even though he had executed a valid will leaving everything to his parents. But how the will is divided will depend on the actor’s domicile at the time of his death. While Ledger was an Australian citizen, there is debate over whether he called New York, California or WA home.

Perth barrister Henry Moser, an expert in WA inheritance law, said if Ledger’s will was divided under WA law and he was confirmed as the biological father of the 11-year-old Perth girl, she would be entitled to a share of his estate. The mother at the centre of the love child riddle has previously declined to answer questions from The West Australian about whether Ledger fathered her daughter. She could not be contacted yesterday.

I didn't realize Heath didn't/doesn't have any fanblogs. Well, he really wanted to "take the blonde out" of his career. Guess he succeeded.

Whoever said he was a druggie, well, it's hard to argue with that. But so was Brando. People with major flaws and weaknesses can still be inspiring actors.

I mean, look at Reese. She's utterly conventional, calculating, materialistic, and fake as a 3 dollar bill, but I have to admit she was good in Walk the Line.
