Looking for the best possible version of Jake Gyllenhaal? You’ll find it onstage, according to the actor himself. “I am my best self when I’m working in the theater,” Gyllenhaal said on the latest episode Stagecraft, Variety’s theater podcast, on which he appeared with Carrie Cracknell, the director of his Broadway outing “Sea Wall/A Life.” “I am the performer that I want to be, and I am, most of the time, the person that I would want to be. I think that primarily has to do with the very reasonable hours, which I don’t think anyone who works in the theater, who doesn’t work in other areas of the entertainment business, really fully appreciates.”
The Broadway schedule (six days a week with two two-show days) is “brutal,” he acknowledged. “But I will say that the feeling I have is it’s a world that feels truly new and mine, and one that is what I’ve been in love with since I was a little kid, and the place I knew I was supposed to be.”
In “Sea Wall/A Life,” Gyllenhaal stars with Tom Sturridge in two separate but thematically linked monologues. According to Cracknell, each actor reveals a lot of himself in each monologue.
“A lot of the process was about us trying to, in a way, think less about character than we would normally, and much more about humanity and what the central themes of the pieces were, and how those actually connected to the actors themselves rather than necessarily a kind of deep, constructed sense of character,” the director said on Stagecraft. “Which is quite different to how I normally work. But it felt really important that the costumes that they were wearing spoke to who they were, and that the intonation or the way that they might address [things] kind of moment-to-moment felt from themselves.”
Also in the new Stagecraft, Gyllenhaal and Cracknell reveal some of the backstage secrets of “Sea Wall/A Life,” ranging from Sturridge’s surprising pre-performance ritual to the fact that Gyllenhaal is, he said, “very odd about my feet onstage.”

so go see it if you can. the staging & acting is brilliant and engaging and i am floored. BUT i went to the stagedoor afterwards bc the first show i went to they did a talkback and didnt stagedoor. and that was when i had an anxious meltdown

Jake Gyllenhaal's Broadway show has reportedly turned into a bit of a "Justin Bieber" concert because his teen fans are so excited to see him onstage.
The actor is currently starring in 'Sea Wall/A Life' alongside British actor Tom Sturridge. The play is slated as a tragicomedy that dissects the meaning of life and love through monologues about masculinity - so, not far off from a Bieber concert, then.
Now, according to The New York Post's Page Six, teens are getting a little overexcited at the presence of the former 'Donnie Darko' star. Before the show begins, Gyllenhaal sits at a piano onstage as the audience comes into the theatre. But the set-up has over-eager fans walking directly up to the stage in hopes of catching Gyllenhaal's attention, only to be escorted back to their parents by ushers.
But Gyllenhaal appears to have eyes for one woman only at the moment: 23-year-old French model Jeanne Cadieu, who he's said to have been dating since 2018. Gyllenhaal is 38.
And while he hasn't confirmed the relationship, Cadieu was spotted attending the play's opening night. Hopefully, she didn't have to line up at the stage to get his attention.

thatgrlallison: Sea / A Life was mesmerizing. It was also a total downer but the simplicity and the effectiveness of the production was breathtaking. There was basically no set. It is two 35-40 minute plays - the first one is performed by Tom Sturridge and the second is performed by Jake Gyllenhaal. Both plays are highly depressing but they both do such a good job commanding the stage, all on their own, for an entire act and I wanted to tell them that after. I hardly ever go to the stage door after a show anymore but I went this time. Girls were clamoring over Jake Gyllenhaal but he was so, so nice. While he was signing my Playbill (the book, not the cat), I told him that he was really fantastic and I swear, he took a moment, looked up, made eye contact and said, “thank you so much,” and then the moment was over. PG did an excellent job in bringing together our observations, analysis, and many questions about why Jake would want to do this play again right after FFH opened in July. Once we both started seeing the narrative taking shape with the hilariously repetitive, "Jake's not a father, but would like to be," paired with the curious reminder that he has two living parents,it gradually became clear what was going on. Much like when Jake abruptly stopped doing Sesame Street videos and other child friendly projects by 2012 (thinking people might get suspicious given the rumors about him being Toothy Tile and having a secret child), and instead frenetically turned to violent, sometimes creepy, over-the-top masculine roles, Jake and his people felt that he had come too close to the truth with the selection of. "A Life." Damage control needed to be jump started, particularly after "Narnia Dispatches" pointed out in February that there were several curious parallels between Jake's life and the major themes of Nick Payne's work. Hence the rapid fire rewind and repackaging of the play four-months later. Remember, subtly is not PR's strong suit. And, obviously it's not Jake's speciality either.

Q: What was it like working with Tom Holland? Judging from your social media, you two seem to get on pretty well.
Jake: I adore him. He’s a good man and he’s someone who’s been raised well. He’s a good person and polite, but loves to have fun. He’s not too straight-laced. He’s just a great guy and I also love that we are from two different generations. He also has real admiration for people who are older than him and have more experience, even though he has had so much success at such a young age.
Q: A Life talked about fatherhood. In your opinion, what does it mean to be a man today? Do you think there are enough stories in the entertainment sphere that discuss the modern issues facing men?
Jake: In the world that I work in we’re still struggling with the clichéd idea that masculinity is tied to strength. And if I’m being honest, I’ve never really fitted in, I’m not too sure about my space in my own industry. I’ve tried to find my own sense of belonging, like: ‘Oh, I fit in here and this is the way I’m supposed to be’. But over time, I released I just didn’t fit into the norm. There’s a big part of me that can fit into the industry, but that’s also a big part of me that’s odd and likes obscure things.
Q: Talking about fashion, as an ambassador for a brand like Cartier, do you feel pressure to be on point style-wise? Because you’re in the public eye a lot, are you conscious of what you’re wearing?
Jake: I’m conscious of being thoughtful and being dressed appropriately for the room that I’m walking into, but beyond that, not really. I think if people are going to judge, they will judge no matter what I wear. But I do like being put together. Dressing up for special events makes me feel confident; it’s like wearing armour.
Q: You recently joined social media. Why did take the plunge now?
Jake: I still haven’t really decided to jump right in [Laughs]. I only have one foot in it now. Social media feels dishonest somehow as a medium. As with almost every medium, including movies, it is hard to be honest.

No kidding. Especially after watching Holland in his hostage video that traveled around all areas of social media not too soon after this post published. There he was in front of the camera like he was holding a ransom letter, repeating all the same nonsense from the premiere red carpet. If you follow Jake on social media, you couldn't have missed it.
He wasn't going to do that willingly. He was forced to do that. We just sat back and watched. Unbelievable, wasn't it? The movie has long been over now, both guys are working on different projects, but Jake's team's "we'll show you" rebuttal was that piece of childish nonsense.
Whatever, PR. And so now "PR" has a name to it. I'll use "PR" like it's a true team, but I think we know how there's really been one person in charge calling the shots, has always been in charge of all the crap since Jake left CAA.

Guess who looks like they're back on the west coast? Mr. Austin. First, someone was photographing him in the Grand Teton mountains of Wyoming, where he proceeded to perform all types of acrobatics in the water in a sudden flurry of social media activity.
Hmmmmm...now what could be different this time? Well, this time, the hubs is stateside, that's what. Unlike last year, which was the #SummerOfJake. And around that week and a half or so when Jake seemed to have vaporized from stage door action, we also had a flurry of activity with Big Sis, Maggie and Peter.
And Jake? Where was he around this time of Austin and Maggie's high visibility? Well, as we said before, certainly not being seen anywhere around the stage door like he had been since Seawall/A Life opened. At least according to Instagram. *wink*
So allll of this was going on during the week that was following Labor Day weekend and the time of year when, *cough*, many schools begin. Narnia's jus' sayin'.....

Everyone here comments about Jake being gay and such but, truthfully, he's in a committed relationship and it's not with Jeanne. Jeanne is a front for his relationship with Barbara Coppola. He's married to her and has two kids, one of them born in February of this year and as proof, she posted a story with a girl in her lap laughing and saying "Daddy! Daddy!" and you can her Jake's voice in the background. Jeanne is used to keep his family out of the spotlight because of some crazies fans and she gets to have more visibility, which is great for a model. And that's the TRUTH.

Has anyone heard of this account msbcmc? I have been trying to investigate and I’m pretty sure it is a fake account, they have blocked me because I asked her questions. Supposedly she works for Jake in some way but acts like a friend but also is supposed to be married and have 4 kids but her account never shows her with them. Her face is also blocked a bit but after looking at it it seems her face is always different, a couple pictures will be the same and a couple others but it’s not the same person. Someone on twitter said fhey saw Jake at Reformation in nyc and on that same day this account on four square took a picture of her being at Reformation. She supposedly went to Harvard and works for all these big time companies but when I would see her type things it looked like broken English at times! I’m so confused, can this account be fake?? If so where would they get all these pictures they post?? It’s so bizarre! Just wondered if anyone had heard of this account before.

I really wish people would stop believing she is someone who knows Jake. It's not hard to see she's a fake. I sorta figured. Around New Years she tweeted something about being at a bar with friends and they all took online quiz and she got Jake and he's her obsession.... It was quickly deleted. Think she mixed up her real account and her role-playing one. And she's been pregnant for eons. And mysteriously has two other kids, then doesn't. And "lives" on whatever coast Jake happens to be at the time. So much effort. Why not just be a "fan?" Nothing wrong with that!
As for "costars" she communicates with-if look, all she does is insinuate they met thru Jake and people are too polite to question her. Tho their have been people on Instgram who have said she's posted their pictures as her own and asked to remove. That's when she goes "private."

Of course, one has to ask why it's "okay" for Austin to visibly be placed in LA. That usually means he's not, lol.
And as the great M&M pointed out, we know Austin was in LA towards the end of July for the TCA's, which were held in Los Angeles. That is the one event that was pretty legit looking with a definitive date stamp. Everything else (the Instagram stories and tweets), those can be filmed any time. So did Austin stop through Wyoming on his way to L.A. on his way to the TCA's? That mustache he has going on is being used to date stamp him because it looks like he needed it for the show, This Close. But does he need it now?
And we know that the whole Oceana appearance doesn't necessarily have to be legit either when all you have is a few pictures of Austin in front of a back drop.
So it's very possible Austin and the kids aren't even in the States right now, but across the pond. ;-)
