The images are countless, breathtaking: Four editors-in-chief, 16 years online, piles of exclusives, plenty of gossip, invented languages, maddeningly fascinating celebrities (dead and alive) and most importantly — you. The reader.
We did this for two decades, folks! When The Awful Truth, which I founded at Premiere magazine 20 years ago, ends this week, it's not the deliciously decadent Blind Vices I will miss the most...
It's you barking types who always made me feel gloriously alive, with all you had to say and scream and be so real about.
That community is my life's (professional) work up until now. It has meant more to me than each of you will ever know.
But it really is time to move on.
If you don't agree, just keep in mind that when I first took this job at E!—in 1996, when the network founded E! Online—I was working at the established and respected Premiere magazine. Scores of people told me, "Online just isn't the place to go."
Everybody told me to pass on the job, and so I did. Then I called back the next day and an amazing man named Lew Harris said, yes, of course, I could change my mind. And I did.
So that's what I'd like my last words to be: Always do what you're not supposed to do.

I thought about it for a bit and let me rephrase that: If he is straight...I'd have a few questions for him:

In End of Watch, from Training Day writer David Ayer, Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña play two street-tough cops in South Central Los Angeles. To get into the role, Ayer put the two actors through five months of intense preparation. Gyllenhaal recalls what it was like to get beat up by a bunch of kids:
“I got the s–t beat out of me every single morning by all these kids. The movie was a piece of cake in comparison to the five months before. [Martial arts instructor] Richard Mesquita has this dojo with boys and girls from Echo Park. They’re [mixed martial arts] fighters and some of them are big boys who can f–king throw a punch and kick a kick, that’s for sure. And we fought five days a week in his dojo every morning. We had protection for our faces, but we still got hit in the face a lot. In a way, it would have been better without the mask because you had this metal piece being pushed into your face every time you were hit.”
Thankfully, End of Watch has a hell of a lot going for it to balance out the wobbly cinematography. Gyllenhaal and Pena have big-time chemistry and seem to really care about one another in the film. The emotional depth of their relationship is why it works, and as a whole, it does work. Gyllenhaal is especially good when he's let off the leash and allowed to dip into his primal side. As in Jarhead and Source Code, we are treated to a performance of real energy. Gyllenhaal spent months preparing for the role and it shows. He walks and talks like a cop.

Actor – Jake Gyllenhaal – A previous nominee for ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ this is probably Gyllenhaal’s second best performance of his career. With a field this competitive he’s gonna need to do a lot of campaigning or have someone fall flat on their face.

Original Screenplay – Has an excellent shot. Need to get that screener out there early.
