It includes accounts of his first passionate affairs -- with men and with women -- as well as his struggle to reconcile his conflicted yearnings with his rapid ascent in America. The pivotal year is 1999, at which Martin performed his World Cup anthem, “La Copa de la Vida,” at the Grammys. Largely unknown in the United States beyond Hispanic audiences, he left the stage as a breathless Rosie O’Donnell (the evening’s host) exclaimed, “Who was that cutie patootie?”
It was connecting the dots that led directly to Martin’s tweet last March. In his memoir, he recounts how friends and colleagues remonstrated with him to hold off: “I ignored all their recommendations, and by the end, when they came to me with the argument that I shouldn’t do it during Easter because it might offend my Christian fans, I said: ‘What part of ‘I can’t take it any more’ do you not understand? What about me?’”
Above all, he says he worried about Matteo and Valentino having to answer for their father’s untruths. How would they respond as they grew older? Would they have to lie on his behalf? “How could I teach my kids to lie?” he asks. “How could I teach them not to be themselves?” And, as simple as that, he realized he couldn’t and wouldn’t. “My children will grow up with no prejudice,” he says. “As parents, we need to create a new way of thinking for our kids, in which we accept, and we love, and we can vibe with everybody.”

Why anybody bothered to make Burlesque or give it such a wide release might be a mystery. Until it's revealed that Screen Gems chief Clint Culpepper greenlighted his boyfriend's $55+ million passion project. (Their on-set strife over budget, schedule, and creative decisions resulted in the most expensive film in Screen Gems history, and word is they're now broken up after 20 years. Awkward.) But novice director Steven Antin deserves at least some credit for bringing back Cher to the big screen: they both dated David Geffen, and the mogul urged Cher to take the role.
With Jake you cant shake the feeling that it is an act. Questions are limited to only certain pre-approved topics. The same limited questions asked at every interview. He comes across as putting on an act which is off putting.

Jake just doesn't seem to have that star quality anymore. It went out the window with Reeke, and has never truly returned.

I'm going to do something I don't do very often, give a plug for a movie. I went and saw Fair Game last night, and it was a really good movie, and a devastating indictment of what went on when Valerie Plame got outed as a spy. Sean Penn and Naomi Watts are really good in it. People in the audience applauded at the end--okay, it helps that is was in a theater on the very liberal upper west side of Manhattan.
I'm giving the plug because after the movie one of the producers came out and made an appeal to the audience. He said they don't have much money for marketing, and have had trouble getting it picked up in theaters. He urged people who liked to film to get out the word, and for people living elsewhere or with family and friends elsewhere to ask their local theaters to show the movie.

Thanks, destiny. I will make a point to go and see Fair Game for sure now. It was one of the movies that caught my interest. It's troubling that an important movie, and an apparently really good one, can't get the money for marketing, but hundreds of millions is spent on marketing the same old mediocre stuff.

They don't add up? That's director Zwick's fault then. Maybe the reason Jake wanted to parttake in the movie is because it looked better in the script, but the execution left much to desire? If so, it's just bad luck.
Rendition supposedly was one of the best scrips that floated around. Someone like Meryl Steep wouldn't have signed on if it wasn't promising, but Gavin Hood messed it up when he translated it to the screen.

I'm not going to return your sarcasm because I generally respect your points of view, Destiny. But, as you know, Hollywood is a very close knit community. Everyone who needs to know, is aware of who's playing the game "by the established rules" and who is bucking or trying to buck the system. You surely don't think that Crash won the Best Picture (2005) in 2006 because that's what the Academy voters wanted, do you? I was working in the industry at the time and let's just say, the fix was in. Everyone knows. This is not about Jake specifically. It's about maintaining the status quo. I was at parties during the whole run up to the Oscars in 2006 and I can tell you that the powers that be were not going to give Brokeback Mountain the Academy Award for best picture no matter how many awards it garnered. Or, how much the public and critics raved about it. To have given BbM the Academy Award would have been like opening the floodgates. Making actors think that maybe they could be more honest and open about their sexuality. Have you ever heard of an inside campaign to derail a movie from winning the Academy Award like it was for Brokeback Mountain. My friends, that was an inside job.
LAOD wasn't even remotely as bad as I thought it would be, and there are great (funny and poignant) scenes in spite of the overall smarminess of the romance-comedy genre. And considering the competition this weekend (especially the Harry Potter juggernaut and America's general preference for action and animated films), LAOD did surprisingly well.

That's right. And, if you look closer you will discover than KiKi was "arranged" because of Jake and Austin's budding "relationship." I don't know if those two are still together, but if you remember the original WFT, people came online and talked about how Jake fell hard for Austin when they first met, i.e. casting for TDAT). This past year, OMG folks discovered a photo where Jake and Austin were at the same party in June, 2002 and Maggie was there too...five months before TDAT even began filming in Montreal. Logic would tell me that those closest to Jake were worried about any rumors leaking out while he was literally, "holed" up in Canada for six months with this guy. That's why Jake came down periodically to NY to take those "candid" photo ops with the Dunster. Even though Jake was hardly with her, there were rumors by the end of the TDAT shoot in March, 2003 that Jake was head over heels in love with Kiki. Does this sound eerily familiar? The script never changes.
Im wondering about the timing of the latest bearding so close to LAODs opening. By then they knew that the critics reviews were not good. And they had a good idea the box office was going to tank. Ticket presales are monitored. So they needed a diversion. Something else to discuss about Jake besides yet another BO failure. Too bad they picked the wrong girl. Good strategy to pick one younger than Reese and with no baggage. But this time they went too young.

That's one explanation. But, I'm leaning towards the person who floated the idea of Chinny Chin, demanding a protection clause in her bearding contract. That Jake had to hook up with a high profile beard within a year so she would not have to risk an unpredictable Jake doing something stupid. Like a glass closet or something. RW, no doubt, wanted to make sure she was not the last woman who "dated" Jake. She could care less about how that might impact Jake's future, just as long as her reputation as American's Sweetheart was not tarnished.

You surely don't think that Crash won the Best Picture (2005) in 2006 because that's what the Academy voters wanted, do you? I was working in the industry at the time and let's just say, the fix was in. Everyone knows. This is not about Jake specifically. It's about maintaining the status quo. I was at parties during the whole run up to the Oscars in 2006 and I can tell you that the powers that be were not going to give Brokeback Mountain the Academy Award for best picture no matter how many awards it garnered. Or, how much the public and critics raved about it. To have given BbM the Academy Award would have been like opening the floodgates. Making actors think that maybe they could be more honest and open about their sexuality.
Bullshit. As someone who actually works in Hollywood, your entire post screams "I have no experience in the film industry". Your post is so full of nonsense that I barely know where to begin. And I apologise in advance for my tone and the fact that I'm about to go to town on you, but I'm finally done with silently reading a blog packed full of people acting like they know Hollywood when they are obviously clueless, and your post just happens to be the unlucky one that broke the camel's back. BBM was the most nominated film at the Academy Awards. It won Best Director, one of the big four Oscars. An actor playing a gay character won the Best Actor award. There was no anti-gay "fix". And there certainly wasn't some power play done to keep BBM from winning Best Picture so as to keep actors from being more honest about their sexuality. Not just because of the idiocy of believing that doing so would hold back the floodgates, but because the reason that BBM didn't win the BP award is BECAUSE actors voted against it. Actors are the biggest bloc of voters in the Academy, and they went for Crash. Crash was a big ensemble piece that had a bunch of well liked and well connected actors in it, all of whom were pushing for it HARD. And if you'd been around at any of the parties when awards season came around you would have heard them and known this. It was the non-actors - the directors, the producers, the editors - that were voting for BBM, not the actors.
