Why Ricky Matters (to me... and maybe a few other boys)

By Lorenzo Herrera y Lozano

March 30, 2010

There’s been a lot of commotion regarding Ricky Martin’s recent coming out statement on his official website. As with most things in life these days, I learned about the news on Facebook. So, I immediately posted about the news as well and quickly joined in the jubilee of queerness and pranced about the office like a middle school-aged boy who accidently touched hands with his classroom crush. I even committed the blasphemy of comparing the news to that of Health Care Reform and the release of Apple’s iPad (insert sound of angel choir here).

And then, of course, there was the storm of cattiness that followed the news. As a queer Xicano, I admit that sarcasm is built into my genetic code. The survivor of four Christian-themed religions and 500+ years of white supremacist occupation, I find humor, irony and disbelief in most things. Still, yesterday I just wanted to celebrate.

I agree that the fact that Ricky is gay is not all that shocking. Queer men and not long speculated or asserted that he shook his bon bon far too well to be straight. Plus, for us jotos/maricones/patos, there was the added benefit of dreaming him up queer, which somehow put us that much closer to his arms.

Still, as the catty remarks continue, as people boast about how they knew and think he should have done this 10 years ago, or sassy queens dismiss the news as inconsequential, I say, look beyond our borders (geographic, cultural, and age-based) and take a minute to honor the fact that for many, Ricky’s coming out is groundbreaking, perhaps even life-saving.

So Ricky was doing more than living la vida loca; he was, in fact, a loca. To the trained eye, this is just confirmation that our gaydar runs on more than hormones and dreams.

Hormones, dreams and cattiness aside, I challenge the ungleeful remarks about Ricky’s coming out.

As with most performers who began as Spanish-language artists, Ricky began over 10 years ago. The Barbara Walters interview (assuming it was Barbara, I can never tell who is behind that cloud of light) did have me on the edge of my teenage self, hoping he’d come out and proclaim his gayness, but it wasn’t his beginning. Ricky’s career began decades ago.

Long before the Latin Explosion, which was more of a Latin Spark, Ricky had left his imprint on the Spanish pop scene of the late 80’s and early to mid-90’s. Back when Thalía and Paulina were still artists and relevant, before Gloria Trevi’s traumatic (for her and her fans) imprisonment in Brazil, and before Alejandra Guzmán would be hospitalized for too much botox on her behind, there was a cultural movement in Latin America.

As a pre-teen growing up in a rural town of 300 in northern México, Thalía, Paulina, Gloria, Alejandra and Ricky were my window into another world. Their performances pushed, albeit at times gently and censured, the boundaries of repressive cultural norms. From flowers wrapped around a microphone to songs about teen pregnancy and abortion, these young performers were resisting and embodying another realm of cultural possibilities. Ricky gave boys the excuse (and perhaps reason) to shake our hips in ways that would otherwise be condemned as obscene.

The dismissal of Ricky’s coming out seems to be rooted in an U.S.-centric perspective where we have the opportunity to stop celebrating any queer image on TV and offer our critique. There is so much gayness these days that we can spend our days and dissertations balking at how a character isn’t gay enough, is too gay, is too white, etc. And although we don’t actually have the type of representation GLAAD and I would like to see, we have a whole lot more than we did in México in 1992 (except, of course, Ricky gently caressing his long hair on stage… oh, and Locomía).

I am not critiquing the fact that we spend so much time criticizing queer portrayals in the media. To the contrary, I am celebrating the fact that we can. In fact, I’d go further and ask why queer people of color media performance and productions are so weak, lame and superficial. Having once curating a queer people of color cultural arts program, I know we can do better.

What I am critiquing is that our criticisms of Ricky’s coming out has us falling into the pitfall of imagining and defining all things queer through a U.S. lens. I even joked about the fact that he used the term “homosexual” to define himself. And now, in retrospect I find that identifying as a “fortunate homosexual” was much more powerful than a simple “gay.”

Perhaps for the jaded queen living in urban U.S., the oversaturation of gayness in the media has deemed Ricky insignificant and worthy of our dismissal. For that frightened and confused 12 year old in rural Chihuahua, it’s monumental.

My coming out process was stumped by the fact that I could not even imagine my queerness, let alone live it. At the time, the saturation of gayness was mostly strictly white. It wasn’t until queer brown men like Jaime Cortez and Emanuel Xavier fearlessly (or perhaps fearfully) exposed their work and their bodies to the sun of public criticism, that I was able to imagine myself.

Whether U.S. fags approve or not, Ricky is a prominent figure here, and more importantly, in Latino América. Ricky’s coming out makes it possible for young boys in countless homes to imagine themselves as something other than confused.

For this, I say to Ricky: gracias. And, you know where to find me.

Q: You look very sexy on the poster. You could be, you know, the new sex symbol, the sexiest man alive. How do you feel about it?

Jake: (Pretending to be serious) “You know, it’s a very difficult position. I would take it on with courage and, hmmmm, if that happened it would be the first time that l’d ever cry in my life.” (Trivia: He is one of People magazine’s World’s Most Beautiful People of 2010.)

Q: Seriously?

Jake: “Hahahahahaha!”

“I started acting professionally when I was old enough, probably around 12 years old.” (Adding with a serious face) “But I actually started acting since my birth which is why I’d want to go back to that period of my life. I’ve always been b------t, you know.” (And then he laughs and laughs)"

What's b------t?

You can't know that.

Yeah, that confused me, too - the only thing I can think of is that he said "I've always been a bullshitter, you know" and the translation is a little off.

The Oscar-nominated actor for “Brokeback Mountain” turned a bit serious only when he talked about his coming movies. “I did two films right after this movie,” he disclosed. “They were in the vein of what I would like to continue to do. I did ‘Love and Other Drugs’ with Anne Hathaway that Ed Zwick directed which I’m so proud of. I also just did ‘Source Code’ with Duncan Jones who directed that movie, ‘Moon.’ I can’t explain how excited I am about that movie. These movies are smaller than this, obviously. I don’t know how much bigger you can get than this.”

He also revealed two important projects: “I’ve always wanted to tell the story of [football legend] Joe Namath. We’ve been working on that for a long time. I would love to be able to play that role. I’m also developing this film about Hans Christian Andersen. Not Danny Kaye’s ‘Hans Christian Andersen’ though that was one of my favorite movies as a kid. This is actually a musical and Stephen Schwartz is writing the music. It’s a dark, interesting tale of Hans, his stories and how he gets to meet his own characters. It’s all set to music. I really want to be in a musical but I want to reinvent the idea of what the musical is. There’s a way of doing it that can bring modernity to it as opposed to something we’ve already seen before.”

^^Jake said he made “Prince of Persia,” which co-stars Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley, and Alfred Molina, so moviegoers will “have a good time...This movie awakened that kid in me again. I made it for families. My aunt called me the other day and she was like, ‘Hey, this is a movie that your cousins can finally see.’”

It makes sense that his cousins are the "kids in my life" that he was talking about (I think Ramona is too young for the movie)

Ramona, Matilda and BT are too young for PoP right now :)

Kids in his life are his cousins and Ramona. BT does not exist. And Matilda, even though his godchild, is not as close to him like Ramona and his cousins (family) obviously. Kids in his life = Niece and cousins.

But can you imagine what people close to them and people in general would say if they hooked up? I think most would condemn it. I mean, he's the kid's godfather."

No, I can't imagine because I don't know. And Jake is not related to Matilda and Michelle. It's not like he's Heath's brother or anything like that. Not to say Jake would or should hook up with Michelle but I am always amazed at the self-absorbed comments ("He would NEVER do that) on this blog about what Jake will or won't do. You don't know him and you don't know the people in his life and what they think. You're only projecting YOUR own thoughts onto him and that's it.

Jake Gyllenhaal takes humorous approach to life, career said...

“I love my work and care about it,” Jake Gyllenhaal said in this recent interview. “But I’m beginning to have a great sense of humor about it because I just don’t feel like there’s any need to take it all that seriously.” With that declaration, Jake proceeded to give mostly tongue-in-cheek answers to questions.
...
For the rest of the interview, Jake, who’s always had a great sense of humor, was like the Prince of Comedy.
...
And how did Jake learn the British accent he uses in the movie? Jake gladly shared his secret formula: “From the very beginning, Mike Newell would say to me, ‘You know my dear boy, you should just speak in the accent. Do not be afraid. Just talk to all the actors and enjoy yourself.’ I was like, ‘Oh Jesus.’ I was so nervous. I was working on the accent for about three months with a dialect coach because I knew how much scrutiny I would get. I had been watching ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ over and over again. And by the way, Bridget Jones was a main influence in my training regimen. I was going after that physique. My accent was really a mixture of Gwyneth Paltrow in ‘Sliding Doors’ and Renee Zellweger in ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary.’ Gwyneth in ‘Sliding’...influenced the hair, too.”

Ted def knows that those who follow his column truly believe that Toothy is Jake. Jake is the only candidate. It would be mean if Ted would continue the saga. I see no reason why he would want to subject Jake to gay rumors if they were not true. Ted has sure pulled back since promption started. I dont think there is any bombshell to come but it sure is obvious he has eased off.

I think it is way past the time that anyone questions that Ted's Toothy is Jake. Is Ted tellling the truth. I think he is. Ted is talented and I think he could survive without Toothy. If Jake wasnt Toothy Ted would have dropped the Toothy saga a long time ago. He wites like a man who has confidence in what he says and Eonline would have put an end to it if it were not true also.

It's not brave or special to write about a person with a fictional name. The association between Toothy and JG has never been explicitly stated by Ted. E! hasn't put an end to it because Ted can write what he wants about a fictional name with impunity.

Ted has no reason to perpetuate Jake as Toothy just for hits. The whole Pattinson mania has pulled in a new audience that far surpassed anything he ever got from Toothy. Comments run in the 500+ range when he mentions Pattinson. Ted keeps Toothy alive because he likes Jake and wants him to be himself. Besides, Jake would be pretty boring if not for the gay Toothy rumors.

So he keeps it going strictly due to the ENORMOUS amount of hits he gets because of it. I dont see it.

Anonymous said...

Jake and the on-going tale of toothy and grey goose don't really get that many hits these days, especially when compared to Robsten etc. Therefore if Ted is basing his long term profitability on keeping the toothy fans happy he's not looking at a very bright future. I think he keeps it going because it is at least partially true and that he genuinely likes Jake really (but like the rest of us gets occassionally/often horrified by such f..k ups such as Reeke).

Sam Worthington can never do an indie. Sam Worthington will absolutely not tolerate any movie that isn't the biggest movie ever made. The Avatar, Titans, Terminator star is now attached to DreamWorks' upcoming Quartermain, based on those old timey books about the Indiana Jones-esque explorer who fucks shit up. Instead of going to find King Solomon's Mines and being vaguely racist, this Alan Quartermain will return to Earth from space long after humans have left and go on his own lonely adventure. If that sounds like it makes no sense, don't get your ears checked. It does make no sense. It makes so much no sense. But Sam Worthington doesn't care. Sam Worthington will smack you in the mouth if you suggest he does a movie that doesn't cost a hundred bamillion doughlars to make. They don't even pay him. He just likes the rush. [THR]

Jake Gyllenhaal breezes into the room and pulls up a chair. He makes a quip about the wooden furnishings in our surroundings and, as he takes his seat, exudes the air of a man who is very contented with his lot. And why wouldn't he be?
...
Gyllenhaal also appears to have resolved something within himself. Often said to be a somewhat reticent interviewee, today he is open and engaging, humorous and genuine. He talks repeatedly in his soft voice about how he no longer takes himself quite so seriously and how he has learned to embrace the various facets of his career and the life he leads around that.
...
Jim Sheridan, who directed him in Brothers, compares him to Warren Beatty. Ben Kingsley says he is the classic American film actor, while Four Weddings and a Funeral director Mike Newell, who worked with Gyllenhaal on Prince of Persia, believes that the Californian has the versatility to become one of the greats.

"Jake has this wonderful thing where he can appear in any kind of movie," Newell says. "Now he's proved that he can be a star in this kind of movie, and we know he can give a smaller more interior performance. He is very multi-faceted and multi-talented."
...
He auditioned for the part of Batman in Christopher Nolan's re-imagining of the Caped Crusader but ultimately lost out to Christian Bale. He is also believed to have wanted the Spider-Man role which went to Tobey Maguire.

"Those are obviously high-profile things where I think the casting of the movie, because it's its own entity, is so interesting to people. I've wanted to do a lot of movies that I haven't done."
...
"I don't know if that's true," he says when asked if a film like this brings more prying eyes. "There is a bigger crew, a bigger movie, more journalists, more interviews, but answering questions about my personal life is still my choice, no matter how many questions come I still have an opportunity to decide whether I'm going to answer them."

Sunday Independent said...

...
"In my life right now I feel much more open and for the first time I feel like, 'This is my job.' It's what I do and it's what I love. My job requires certain things of me and there's no complaining involved. Previously I had ideas of what I thought an actor was supposed to do.

"At a certain point I went, 'Wait a second, I'm not really listening to myself. I'm doing something that I think people are supposed to do but what do I really enjoy?' Let me experience it and decide for myself before I start assuming one thing is cool and another thing is not.

"One of the things which got me into this movie was I went, 'This is really fun.' The younger version of me would have been, 'Oh no, I'm only going to do this movie with that person' or 'It's going to be about that and it's going to be tortured.' As I get a little older I'm like, 'You know what? I want to have fun.' I don't really take myself as seriously anymore and as I've opened myself up to those things I've realised this is an amazing job."

Part of that realisation may come with age. He will be 30 in October and regards that event as a "crossroads".

"I feel honoured because I think life is precious and the more years you get you actually begin to learn. I feel that at 29 going into 30 I now have perspective behind me and in front of me. Whereas before I could only see in front of me. Now I'm like 'Oh, wow. Regret!'

"It feels like a big thing. They say in Ouarzazate [one of the Moroccan locations for Prince of Persia] it is the Gate of the Sahara. It feels a little bit like that in my life, like I'm entering a new gate."

So, as he approaches his fourth decade, does he feel he has achieved the things he thought he would achieve when he was 20? "I didn't ever think I was going to be 30 when I was 20."

What about 10 years from now? What are his aims for then? "I'm never going to be 40."

There are only three reason for Jake and Austin have a child and spend so little time together as a family.
1- Jake and Austin are not a couple anymore

3- they don't care for BT anymore.
If you have a child and love him/her you want your child grow up in a normal way, happy and without psychological problem.
Can achild in the closet grow up in this way?
Can Jake and Austinwant to have a child and then still prefer their career?
Do Jake and Austin love their child and keep the kid in the closed for...how many years? I do believe there is not BT.

Although I'm not a 100% believer in BT i can't understand what all this talk about keeping a child in the closet means. If BT does exist, surely all Jake (and Austin) are 'guilty' of is not publising that the child exists. Surely protecting a child from the scrutiny of the public is actually a positive thing as it protects the child from the public gaze. OK, the situation can't go on indefinately, but the universe of a pre-school child is quite limited and shouldn't really involve being paraded around for the enjoyment of the general public, the way some people go on you'd think they were keeping the poor little blighter actually locked in a cupboard.

Hundreds of gay and lesbian activists, some dressed in drag and others sporting multicolored flags representing sexual diversity, marched and danced through the streets of Havana on Saturday along with the daughter of Cuban President Raul Castro as part of a celebration aimed at eliminating homophobia around the world.

Some of the marchers played drums and others walked on stilts as they made their way down a wide avenue in the capital's hip Vedado neighborhood, where they have held a series of debates and workshops ahead of the May 17 celebration of the International Day Against Homophobia.

Said President Castro's daughter and longtime-time LGBT rights advocate Mariela Castro, who is in the center of the photo above: "We have made progress, but we need to make more progress."

Related, The Havana Times has published an interview with a young Cuban lesbian about living as an openly gay person in that country. When asked if gay men "suffer more police persecution than gay women," she responded:

"We all are socially pressured, and not only through police harassment but also from social rejection, gestures or expressions, and when we don’t receive proper treatment in some place because someone is a “too mannish” or “too loose,” and consequently they’re discriminated against. I don’t know if lesbians or if gays are the more rejected. I think lesbians are harassed more; men tend to give looser reins to their ghoulish instincts without realizing that it doesn’t please us. On the other hand, they humiliate us by subjecting us to their obscenities, often in public."

Jake Gyllenhall and Gemma Arterton have been defending their new video game movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Historically, movies based on video games have not been big success stories, but Jake thinks that is about to change:

"The mistake that has been made is that a lot of film makers have tried to mimic the video game itself so there was no sense of reality and the action wasn't based on the storyline. This one we decided would have to be different to the video game in many ways."

Gemma says a good story is key: "The script is great. The story is the strength and the characters. All of the other things, the special effects, the stunts, they add to that."

Director, Mike Newell did not worry about the potential critics: "I just thought it would be wonderful to have a go at a great big story." There are rumours that the film could be developed into a series with Prince of Persia already being tipped to be the big blockbuster of the summer.

9:19, you'd probably find a more receptive audience for the BT stuff over at OMG. Over there, they twist everything into evidence of BT - and see hidden messages everywhere - even when there clearly is no hidden meaning. Like Jake mentioning the two swords that he wields in PoP, lol. I mean, wtf?

I feel sorry for Jake who is trashed in many way by delusional people who thinks he have two unhappy babies in the closet and criticize him while probably there are NO children.

They've reached a new high in lows over there lately. :

Yes, they have and even when rational, fair-minded people try to point out the absurdity of some of their reasoning, they just put their hands over their ears and yell, "troll." I wonder if they still believe Jake was wearing Austin's clothes at the GQ photoshoot, lol.

Oh, hi, guys!! I just stopped mowing the yard for a minute so I could come join you at the white picket fence and join in on the gossip. You know, catch up on the latest whisperings about the neighbors & all.

lol. Funny thing. The laughing and the ridicule. The slamming and the shaking of heads. The questioning of mental & emotional stability.

What's funny about it is for all of that, it doesn't seem to stop the lurking and the reading, does it?

Of course, with all Anon posters with the exception of mr. DaviB, it's impossible to tell who's a WFT2'er merely slamming the neighbors and who's a PR troll wanting to make OMG look like a bunch of loons and try to discredit their mental being. What better way to stifle any further discovery or questioning and thus maybe end the existence of OMG, something I have no doubt Jake's PR would love to do.

Doesn't matter.

I'll gladly take all the ridicule on how looney I am. How disillusional. How crazy.

Bring it on. I'll delight in it, strap it on, and wear it on a badge.

It's not daunting me in the least and it's certainly not going to stop me.

Okay, so carry on! It's entertaining reading - I'm enjoying it. Hopefully, there'll be more material provided in the near future for further useage.

It's not wrong and it's not being a troll.

No one says anyone has to believe in BT's existence.

Heck, I bounced back & forth for awhile - it sounded nuts.

I shout troll at OMG visitors who come there merely to argue. And they're visitors who visit repeatedly. They're not asking innocent, genuinely curious questions. They know full well what to expect there and what is said. That's a troll.

And they want facts? There are no facts. There's unexplained happenings and there's slips of the tongue by Jake and others.

And then there's strollergate and several unusual pictures, dating as far back as the possible ultrasound picture in the hand outside of the doctor's office.

There's logic in that Jake is now 29, going on 30. He's at the age where alot of young men get married and start raising a family. There's logic in that Jake has expressed in the past a desire to have his own family, even stating about how many kids he'd like to have.

I think people are expecting and wanting Jake to just stand at a podium, hold a press conference and announce that he's married and has one, if not two kids.

And then move right on to his next film.

I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. Heck, look at the way so many are reacting to even the slightest possibility.

It's insane. It's crazy. It's cruel. It's horrible.

The exact same things his people have told him and why he has bearded and just finished a week of highly uncharacteristic behavior. Because he's being told if he wants a career in HW, he's going to have to hide it. For how long, who knows. I can't imagine it getting any easier especially as the child grows older.

But just because something sounds unbelievable or impossible or illogical, doesn't mean it still can't be true. People have dreams and they fall in love. People don't always foresee trouble. They make premature or ill-advised decisions. Or again, they simply follow their hearts.

That's the best I have to offer but it's enough for me. No one else needs to see the logic in it.

prairiegirl said...

And for those who want facts, well, the same can be said for the existence of facts that says Jake is gay. Or that Jake is straight.

Or that Jake has been lovers with Chris.

Or that Jake has been lovers with Austin.

Or that Jake has been lovers with Heath.

There are no facts in any of those 3 situations.

And yet, there are people who believe in any or all or some of the 3. Once again, merely circumstancial or interpretational evidence.

At best, there's pictorial evidence such as the Ledgerection or the Laker pics.

So what's the difference?

I have to go now. I've got to go visit my mom. I do that on Sundays, you know.

Anonymous said...

But just because something sounds unbelievable or impossible or illogical, doesn't mean it still can't be true.

It can be true, or not. So there is no reason to get upset just because some people don't believe in BT.

There is no doubt there is a Baby Tile. Ted has reaffirmed that question several times. And has hinted that there may even be 2. There is always the possibility that Goose is someone else. Chris perhaps. He seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth.

People see what they want to see, PG. It's as simple as that. If you want to see "a possible ultrasound picture" versus perhaps a note or a prescription in his hand, then that's what you will see. I guess I'm just curious why you and others need to see this. Any of this.

Anonymous said...

There is no doubt there is a Baby Tile. Ted has reaffirmed that question several times.

Let's take Ted out of the equation for a moment. What other solid proof is there that this BT exists? What was that you said? None? Just as I thought.

Who's getting upset? I'm not getting upset. Believe me, you'll know when I'm getting upset.

I don't see Special getting upset.

I don't see M&M getting upset.

Just like I see the frequent false statement that OMG'ers "are threatened or don't like" Heath now it's OMG'ers get upset at someone who doesn't believe in BT?

I'm not upset with you. Did you read my earlier answer?

I get upset with people who come to troll. They don't come to discuss.

Why do some shout troll at someone who comes on here and says Jake is straight?

Because they don't believe what you do?

Not necessarily. Because you know they come to troll. Read the internet definition of a troll.

And you'll have my reason for when I get upset.

I won't apologize for that.

I will take a shot at answering that. Nothing is wrong with it. No one knows anything for sure. Its all about clues and hints and Ted. Your not a troll if you dont believe in BT. Trolls are homophobes. A troll may be PR scared to death because some of this stuff is true. Trolls may just be somebody who likes to break balls. A troll can be someone who is horrified Jake aint str8. Sometimes they do a good job getting me going. I have got to work on that. In my opinion Jake is bi and it's very possible he and Austin were more than friends for a while. I'm not sure if they stayed friends. I hope they did.
I think the Kiki thing was genuine, but he left her because her partying ways scratched on his image and Austin (if you believe Ted) may have been another important reason for the break up. Reese, imo, was more for image than anything else. In his case to diminish the gay rumors and to be seen with A-list, fresh Oscar winner, American darling RW (she was the shit after her Oscar win in 2006). And for her to be seen with hot, up and coming actor JG (the it boy of 2006) which wasn't bad either. Maybe they even tried to make it work? But Jake saw her true colors more and more and called it quits, she announced it earlier than planned just to ruin his Brothers promo. All IMO, mind you!
He and Heath, imo, were never more than friends. I think they genuinely respected, admired and liked each other and I wouldn't rule out attraction as a result of the filming, but all harmless.

It's all my own opinion, I don't claim anything is a fact, just things I observed and came to the conclusion above.

Anonymous said...

Kirsten was a beard, I bet that's the reason they didn't stay friends. Bearding with Reese is proof enought that Jake is gay, not bi.

Anonymous said...

4:39, that was a very well-reasoned post. I do think the Kirsten thing was genuine, or started out that way at least. I also think it's pretty obvious that there was more than just a friendship between J and Austin (and that opinion isn't based just on Ted). I do believe that Reese was for image and to diminish gay rumors - that's basically the definition of a beard. I also agree that she leaked the break-up ahead of the planned time out of spite and just to make herself look like the one who was doing the dumping. And all the subsequent stuff that she's had put out there so quickly since the break-up - the stuff about Jake who? and Toth being such a man's man, blah, blah, just reaffirms that there was nothing real there, imo. I have never believed that there was anything more than a true friendship between H & J - but I do think Jake may have been a little infatuated with H - it always showed in his eyes, I think.

Great comments above, I must say! Here is what I believe:

I agree that Kiki & Jake were real, lots of gay boys share a big caring bond with their first girlfriends. It doesn't mean they are not 100 percent gay though

I think Austin and him were in love and they split shortly after Reeke begun, the last set of biking pics was a favour from Austin to Jake. The public "needed" to know they were best "normal" buddies as usual and that there was nothing to hide. They used to be papped a lot and a sudden dissaparing of sights of them together, especially during the reeking, could have been too suspicios.

Reese felt vulnerable and hurt where she feels the most (her public image) when Ryan cheated and divorced her. She wouldn't never agree to be a beard in different circumstances. After the "split" she trashed Jake and pimps her new bf more out of despise for herself, for being such a week dumb to do the ridiculous charade than for being angry with Jake.

I have no idea what went on between Heath and Jake. I just hope they remained friends and that there was no torrid affair...Heath had enough problems of his own already

Davide Bo said...

Yesterday, Jake Gyllenhaal waved at me. Yes, it is true! I was driving to an audition in the Hollywood Hills when I came around the corner and an SUV was blocking the road. The passenger was putting something in the trunk.

I sighed and put the car in reverse so the driver could get around me when he was ready to pass, but I wasn’t angry because the driver gave me one of those little sorry-I’ll-be-gone-in-a-minute waves. I waved one of the no-problem-buddy waves back. And good thing I did! Because when he finally was ready to pass me, I looked at the window and saw that it was Jake Gyllenhaal himself!

My view is that Jake dated Kirsten when he was still in his period of sexual confusion. They likely had sex. Most young gay males have sex with women as teenagers but start to face their true sexual nature as they move into their early 20s. Plus once he fell in love with a man, Austin, there was no turning back. Ted says that Toothy and Goose are still together. Until he says they broke up, they remain together to me. After all they did break up once before and we saw Jake fall apart before our eyes. He turned in to unkempt mountain man.

Okay you guys - I have always said that I had no idea if Jake was gay of not. I know the Reese romance was a fake PR stunt from people who work for him. Now I know for a fact they are working overtime (again) to promote the new Persia movie. A big part of this effort is to make Jake more 'macho' and dampen the gay rumors - this staged video is a part of this effort.

There is great fear from marketing that the gay rumors are going to explode again and chase away the young male audience for the film.

I can promise you that the person who keeps posting the "Jake is straight" stuff in here is a PR hack. I was even given the names of a few of these people.

I hate to break it to PR, but it's too late to change Jake's image. Its only a few days to the films opening and ticket pre-sales are not off the charts. They made their biggest mistake by not deciding who the audience was going to be. Gamers, young males, kids, young women, gay men. You need to pick one or two. They've sort of waffled all over the place and screwed them all up. Do gamers even leave the house except for a big deal like Wonder Con or Comic Con. They will more likely wait for the DVD. If Jake is gay suddenly explodes, since its common knowledge anyway, it will be because he got his hand caught in the cookie jar again. Did he get up to something in London.

Yeah, this is something I've noticed. It seems that PoP is being heavily pushed as a "family" movie. I know that most people don't pay attention to the "13" part of the PG-13 rating, but I'd have thought they would've kept it to PG if that was their plan originally.

I think this kind of movie should be pushed as a family movie - families with 10+ year old kids.

Haha, I wish I could tell you! I have no idea who the other guy was, nor what he was putting in the trunk.

I've asked her if the other guy was Austin.

lmao. I was joking around!! It's hilarious that someone copied my post and actually asked her, lol. She's an actress, so I think she'd have recognized if the passenger was another actor.

Why shouldn't we ask her about the other guy???

No actor can recognise or know all other actors.

I didn't say she shouldn't be asked about the other guy - that's fine! Ask away! I just thought it was funny to see my question copied over on her blog, that's all.

Trolly should learn that DL jokes don't work everywhere.
