Darkness.

A SOUND slowly builds: the rhythmic rocking of a TRAIN'S WHEELS over RAILROAD TRACKS...

INT. HIGH SPEED TRAIN - MORNING

COLTER jolts awake. Sunlight hits his face.

He blinks. A stunned beat. He's disoriented.

Slowly he turns his head to one side...

PASSENGERS. Filling most of the seats. Office workers on their morning commute into a city.

Turning the other way, he‘s confronted with a window. Trees flash by, splitting the rising sunlight into a hypnotic strobe pattern.

Colter looks to be thirty years old. A military buzz cut. A disciplined physique, lean and spare, almost gaunt. Skin burnished by years of desert sandstorms and equatorial sun. His expression, prematurely aged by combat, is perpetually wary, sometimes predatory, accustomed to trouble.

Despite his military bearing, Colter wears a button down shirt and navy sports coat. On his wrist is a digital watch. It reads 7:40 a.m.

He swallows. A strange, creeping panic.

He has no idea where he is.

Q: What's the deal with Sean Hayes? Did he ever officially come out? — Michael, New York, NY

A: No.

Here at AfterElton.com, we're always yammering on about how we don't traffic in gossip, and we don't speculate about an actor's sexual orientation when it is unknown.

But Sean Hayes seems to me to be in a slightly different category. It's hard for me to imagine that there's even a single reader of this column who hasn't already heard the rumors that Hayes was openly gay before the 1998 premiere of Will & Grace, but clammed up once taking the role of Jack McFarland.

To be very clear, I have no idea if Sean Hayes is gay or not (and at this point, I really don’t care). All we know is that he's been very, very cagey since 1998. But he does provide me with an opportunity to play a little thought experiment.

Let's create a hypothetical actor, shall we? Actor X achieved break-out fame, and received massive critical acclaim, for playing a gay character on a wildly popular, zeitgeist-y 1998 show, Phil & Trace.

Let’s assume that Actor X actor is gay, but that he and his management decided, for career reasons, to stop acknowledging that: they decided he was taking enough of a risk playing the gay character, and he didn’t want to be pigeon-holed as “gay” when the show was over.

First, let me say that I believe that this was Actor X's choice to make, and his alone. But I personally also think Actor X and his management would have been making a really, really bad call. Their decision definitely would have made sense at that time: Actor X would be taking a risk by taking that prominent gay part. At that moment in time, given the combination of being gay and playing a major gay role, he almost certainly would’ve been type-cast as “gay,” and suffered accordingly.

(Although, to be fair, the only way he’d be typecast was if the show was a hit – and while hit shows can typecast actors, they also lavish mounds of cash and acclaim on the participants, especially these days.)

Anyway, here’s the mistake Actor X and his management would've been making: it wasn't occurring to them that the world was rapidly changing on the “gay” issue (in part, because of the success of shows like the hypothetical Phil & Trace!).

AE said...

Ellen DeGeneres made a very different choice: she embraced being gay both on and off-screen. And in the short run, she did, in fact, get screwed. She didn’t work for years (something that, in our hypothetical scenario, would have factored into Actor X's decision to go back into the closet, since the Ellen backlash was exactly the same time Phil & Trace would have premiered).

But eventually the world caught up with Ellen. Her coming out definitely hurt her in the short run, but it also set her up to become the beloved icon she is now, hailed as a visionary and awash in all manner of good will.

And while it’s true she was pigeon-holed as a “lesbian” for a while, she’s now moved far, far beyond that. It’s definitely part of who she is, but only a small part. The same is true for Neil Patrick Harris, Rosie O'Donnell, Portia de Rossi, and Suze Orman.

Actor X, meanwhile, would still be stuck back in 1998. His public work on Phil & Trace was way ahead of the curve – far more openly gay than anything else on television at the time. But Actor X's private stance is the opposite of his public one – very old-school, “I don't talk about my personal life.”

Actor X would've already alienated every anti-gay audience member as a result of his work on Phil & Trace. But by refusing to fully commit to his gay celebrity, he'd also have alienated all his would-be gay and gay-supportive fans.

The end result is that our hypothetical Actor X would now be respected in the industry and would always find work as a character actor (but with the world as utterly transformed as it is now, I think that would’ve been true even if he had come out).

The difference is, character parts would be all Actor X has now. The only credit he'd get for Phil & Trace is for the performance itself – admittedly, very well-received. But unlike Ellen, he couldn’t really capitalize on the revolutionary nature of his show, as he could've if he'd been openly gay all along, because it so clashes with his personal choices. Regarding leading roles, well, the whole industry would assume he’s gay anyway, and assume that the country thinks that way too.

It’d be literally the worst of both worlds. Indeed, I think it’s arguable that by staying closeted, Actor X would actually end up more typecast as “gay” now than if he'd just come out ages ago, because he, unlike Ellen, never would've defused it and moved on; it'd still be the pink elephant in the room.

It’s possible that Actor X wouldn't care about any of this – after all, he'd be richer than God as a result of all those years on Phil & Trace. But if he honestly didn’t care about ever working again, why didn’t he come out much earlier?

Again, I don't know if Sean Hayes is gay, and maybe you think I'm being too clever by half by playing this little "thought experiment." But it's the only way I can think of to talk about three closeted actors I know about who are now making basically the same choice my hypothetical Actor X made. I think there’s a lesson in the Actor X story, for actors and for the rest of us: karma isn’t just some silly nonsense that someone made up. Doing the “right” thing – putting the needs of other people before the needs of yourself – really does pay off in the end. You get back in happiness and success exactly what you put out into the world.

In short, taking risks is dangerous, in one's career or in anything. But in the long run, not taking them is even more dangerous.

So it is definitely a guy coming out? Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone who might come out and who would fit the description "bombshell". Sounds like a tv person from what Musto thinks--which if it wasn't a man, I'd say Oprah.

No way Jake would do it before PoP.

Coming out is just a speculation at this moment.

Unless coming out is part of the publicity strategy for PoP. If they sense the movie could be a flop and bearding didn't work, then any publicity could be good publicity. If his name is all over the press for whatever reason, then the movie too.

Thanks for the After Elton article. Very interesting. And sadly, probably true about the danger of not taking the risk in the short run. I'm afraid that might be a problem for Jake, especially after the bearding, and that in the meantime the world will pass him by too.

If I remember correctly, there was an article published last year that mentioned a PR person who specialises in coming out strategies

15 October 2009

An LA Weekly profile of Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman asks a provocative question: is the time ripe for an A-list male actor to come out of the closet? Bragman thinks the answer is yes.

Patrick Range McDonald writes that Bragman, openly gay himself, has helped numerous celebrities and pro athletes with the "tricky and, for decades, risky terrain" of coming out. He currently works with Chaz Bono, whose gender transition from female to male was recently reported on TMZ. He's brought out actor Mitchell Anderson and NBA player John Amaechi. But now, he says, it's time for someone really big. McDonald writes,

"The publicist hasn't brought out an A-list, gay male actor - yet. But Bragman says that day is coming, and after the first superstar decides to reveal himself, a fundamental shift in American acceptance of gay leading men may not be far behind. He's currently working with a famous musician who's still closeted from the public, but who will come out next year. And the manager of one major movie star approached Bragman a year ago and asked about his client's possibly going public, but the actor still refuses to pull the trigger.

"I felt a little frustrated with that superstar," Bragman says in reflection, "because it had to be 'handled.'"

I think that for the average straight guy moviegoer and gamer, Jake is already "out". If we judge by the comments around of this group, it's always about BBM jokes or gay jokes. It wouldn't be much difference in their minds if Jake literally comes out.
Most of the female audience who consume chick flicks bought Reeke, so Disney already have their tickets.
Now they need gays and the rest of women who would support a gay prince.
However, I think they'll market the film for families, so they have to be sure not to 'offend' anyone and that means following the rules of 'straight' Jake.

After Elton Sean Hayes article

After Elton comments submitted by robbiejnyc:

Well...Hindsight is 20/20

and the business is beyond f*cked. BEYOND. F*CKED. Let's fast-forward to the future...say 11 years. Actor X now has a serious financial cushion and can pretty much pick and choose projects that excite him. He's wise in taking a break from the medium that made him, and is branching out into...oh...let's say theatre.

There's a production company in NYC that's going to be doing a high profile revival of a very popular musical. The company really wants Actor X for the lead. He'd be kinda perfect for it. Hilarious, charming. You need a bit of a mama's boy and he can do that very well. But the director, a flaming homosexual if there ever was one, refuses to even meet with Actor X because he's 'WAAAY TO GAY!!!' They move on to another tv actor who has some name recognition. He's charming, handsome...and all wrong for the part. The show is eviscerated...mostly for its lead performances. Karma, indeed.

The problem is not the actors. It's never the actors. I mean...yes. We make our choices. I've chosen, as an actor, to leave a paper trail so that it would be impossible for me to be in the closet. This makes my representation nervous, and, frankly, it took me a long time to even find representation because of it. But that's the choice I've made, and I know I'm paying the price for it. Ah well.

I have watched friends transition from performing to behind-the-scenes. Gay friends, who are incredibly out...who have marched with me when Prop 8 was passed. And they are now in the position of counseling gay actors and actresses about the level of 'out' they should be. And, without fail, they tell them to keep quiet about their lives. They do not encourage lying. They always say, 'Well...if he's asked about it, he won't lie.' But they are now part of the problem. And it's horrifying.

So yes...as actors, we are responsible for the choices we make. But it's still a business where the gatekeepers (who, many times, are gay themselves) are still keeping you out of the loop if you're too out. I've seen it. I've experienced it. And it's a very tough needle to thread. We're different. We can't just sit down and write a screenplay...or paint a picture. We have to be allowed to work. And that leads to all sorts of compromises that others don't have to deal with.

This is a business based entirely on fear, in some ways. Which is kind of ironic, because actors are the ones asked to be 'fearless' and expose themselves (sometimes literally) for their art.

It's disheartening...particularly in the casting process. Over the past decade I've been in NYC, it's become insane how safe the casting folk play it. The casting pool has become so small that it's incredibly hard to break into it. It's the same short list of NY actors that you always see. And it's discouraging.

I actually had a casting director call my sh*t out in the middle of an audition. I was auditioning for a dual role...one a total ladies' man and the other a raging fag. Both were supposed to be over the top. So I went for it with the ladies' man. The writer and the director both loved the reading, flat out telling me so...but the casting director stopped the audition and berated them for not realizing just how gay I am. As I was standing there. In the room. Reading with another actor. It was horrifying. And you wonder why actors choose to keep their mouths shut?

I believe in being out as a performer. I believe it's important. But I sure as hell understand anyone who chooses to make a different choice.

Bosh Analysis: Power Bottom ' Jake Gyllenhaal'

In most gay circles, bottoms rarely admit to another bottoms' beauty or ability to please a top. Unfortunately for straight actor, Jake Gyllenhaal, he was just to real as a bottom in Brokeback Mountain.

It has come to our attention that Jake Gyllenhaal is being snubbed by critic queens in favor of masculine power top Heath Ledger for the best actor honor. We imagine this nude picture helped Heath Ledger (NSFW) -- we don't want to imagine what this Kiss did.

The Ang Lee directed epic, Brokeback Mountain, topped the Golden Globe nominations on Tuesday with nominations in seven categories, including best film drama as reported here earlier (numerous times). The film picked up nominations for director Lee and star Heath Ledger.

The New York Film Critics Circle recently awarded the film its awards for best film, best director and best actor, for Heath Ledger.

Brokeback Mountain was also shortlisted for score, screenplay and best supporting actress for Michelle Williams reports BBC.

Set in Texas and Wyoming, Brokeback Mountain is the romantic tale of two male cowboys from very different backgrounds who meet and fall in love while working together as sheep ranch hands near Wyoming's Brokeback Mountain the summer of 1961. Their lives take different courses, however, with Jack Twist (Gyllenhaal) becoming a rodeo cowboy while Ennis Del Mar (Ledger) remains a ranch hand, and the film follows their lives as they see each other again over the next 20 years. Their relationship is rocky, however, as they must deal with the challenges posed as the intolerance of pre-(and post)-Stonewall rural America rears its ugly, violent head against the two lovers. (Williams plays Ledger's wife; Hathaway plays Gyllenhaal's wife; Quaid plays a ranch foreman.)

Joining "Brokeback" on the list for best film drama were "Good Night, and Good Luck," a stylish black-and-white movie directed by George Clooney, Woody Allen's story about British class warfare "Match Point," and two low-budget thrillers, "A History of Violence" and "The Constant Gardener.

In just about every article Heath is hailed as ... err .... really great .... sure Heath is amazing in Brokeback, but Jake did all the work.

The Bosh would like to nominate Jake Gyllenhaal for being so pretty, realistic, and pretending to take Heath's man meat with no preparation.

Meanwhile, Perez Hilton reports Jake and his team of advisers are pushing for a Best Oscar nod for his performance in Jarhead, and Universal is prepared to unleash a multi-million dollar lobbying campaign for the film, Gyllenhaal and director Sam Mendes.

Why Jake got jilted at the Globes

Mystery solved. It sure looked odd yesterday when the Golden Globes displayed so much love for gay cowboy pic "Brokeback Mountain" (noms in 7 of 11 categories) but none for poor cowpoke Jake Gyllenhaal.

Turns out that the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. qualification committee insisted on putting Jake in the lead-actor race instead of supporting, which is the category he's campaigning for at the Oscars and other kudos.

The contest for best drama actor was so packed this year that the Globes couldn't find room for Viggo Mortensen ("A History of Violence"), Tommy Lee Jones ("Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada"), Ralph Fiennes ("The Constant Gardener"), Jonathan Rhys Myers ("Match Point") or Eric Bana ("Munich") either.

With so many great leads to choose from, it seems the category couldn't squeeze in a supporting star — regardless of how much they love him in his Stetson and chaps.

Johnny Depp says of Alice in Wonderland director Tim Burton, "To be honest, he could have asked me to play Alice and I would have said yes - I would have done whatever character he wanted... The fact that it was the Mad Hatter was a bonus because it was a great challenge." [Mirror]

3D Is Going to Ruin Movies For a Long Time to Come said...

Maybe not forever, but at least for the foreseeable future. After Avatar and Alice In Wonderland it appears that directors have chosen to play with their new bag of gimmicks rather than, you know, bother with a compelling story.

I saw Alice earlier this week, and it is a stunning work of filmmaking. The characters populate a fully-realized and lush landscape that is, in turns, beautiful, frightening, moody, and delightful. You will want to live there, it's that spectacular. Just the Red Queen's castle alone is a Burton-esque masterpiece of gorgeous asymmetry, spindly spires, and towering menace. And the audience will be fully immersed in a foreign and fantastical landscape. But it's 3D realness is populated with 2D characters. They're less actual personalities than lots of paper dolls positioned in an ever-changing diorama. Alice and her gang of wacky cohorts (including Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter, who employs more accents than a cocktail party at the UN) are little more than functionaries for a story that is barely there. By the time they work their way to the final battle with the Jaberwocky (who looks suspiciously like Marvel's Fing Fang Foom), it's hard to care what actually is happening while simultaneously being spellbound by the visual intricacies of the affair.

Avatar had the same problem, and it might win a damn Oscar. James Cameron's Na'vi adventure is a revolutionary piece of cinema in that it uses new technology to create something we've never seen before. When our grandkids are watching 3D solid-light holographs, this will be remembered as a landmark on the way to getting there. But the story is a heavy-handed, overly-didactic predictable mess that cobbles together elements from so many previously-told tales that it should be nominated from the Best Adapted Screenplay.

Such is the problem with 3D. It is so mind-numbingly amazing that narrative storytelling hasn't caught up with the technology. The corporate screenwriting borgs are so busy trying to come up with plot devices to highlight all the newfangled whoosiwhatsits—objects being hurled at the audience, flying sequences, falling leaves, glowing Venus Flytraps—that no one is really bothering to tell a tale. The audience will let them get away with it too, their mind clouded and their retinas dazzled by the computer animated squiggles of so many creative minds. They'll keep plopping down their 16 dollars without caring about anything other than the spectacle. To be fair, Coraline was a great piece of animation with a lovely story. But it's the exception, and it proves how far 3D has to go.

Eventually our champion 3D movie will come. I wish it would be Clash of the Titans, but, like the original, it will probably be a lot of camp gussied up with some incredible graphical enhancements. We're probably going to have to wade through the empty calories of years of eye candy before someone gets it right. And until the novelty wears off, we'll be swapping our brains for a pair of cheap plastic frames.

The Guys Have It said...

In anticipation of Sunday's Oscar ceremony, the Academy has issued a mysterious news release, "The Guys Have It for 82nd Oscar Show," announcing the Oscar-night presence of Gerard Butler, Bradley Cooper, Tom Ford, Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Pine, Keanu Reeves, Ryan Reynolds and Sam Worthington. (No, there has not been a "The Gals Have It" news release, at least not as I write this.)

For those who may find at least a few of these names unfamiliar, try this: "300" Hot Guy, "Hangover" Hot Guy, Should Have Been Nominated for "A Single Man" Guy, Maggie's Brother Who Was Nominated for "Brokeback Mountain" Guy, Young Captain Kirk Guy, Keanu (what else is there to say?), Guy From That Other Sandra Bullock Movie and "Avatar" Guy.

Elsewhere, the traditional Oscar-week backlash against the front-runner is coming along nicely, with a "Hurt Locker" producer banned from the Oscar ceremony for sending inappropriate e-mails campaigning for the film. I still think "The Hurt Locker" is going to take the big prize, but I said that about "Brokeback Mountain" a few years back too, so you never know.

Blind Vice: Nevis Divine—and Boyfriend—Return!

You didn't think we forgot about one of our yummy Blind Vice favorites, did you? No, not Toothy Tile, but third time's the charm for Nevis Divine. He's back and skankier than ever!

Nevis, the undeniably sexy hunk with a bisexual past, has had a few serious and not-so-serious relationships recently.

Only problem? He can't decide whether his beard or ex-boyfriend is the perfect fit for him...

Introducing Barrington Bang-Me, an equally charming fellow, as well as an ex to the simply sinfully delicious Mister Divine.

Barrington is the same boyfriend Nevis was holding hands with and introducing around to Industry folks at a swanky party not too long ago. No shame for this boy-on-boy love story! That is, until N.D. started to get über-famous, leaving his less recognizable beau in the dust.

Sounds eerily like Toothy and Grey Goose, except Nevis and Barrington are far more open about their still-ongoing relaysh. Probably a good thing, too, don't you think? With that much booze, dope and nice donk involved?

Yes, B & N are certainly still doing it on the down low, which makes us question whether Nevis' leading lady is getting in on some threesome action. Or if she's just totally cool with her boy's wandering eye.

We're told it's the latter. 'Cause one thing's for sure: Nevis and Barrington aren't hiding from said girlfriend. Oh no, Nevvy will still screw whoever he wants, blurring all kinds of gender barriers.

And clearly, Nevis is headed for rehab, eventually. Wonder which babe he'll choose once his head clears up?

Steve McQueen had a daily two-hour exercise regimen, involving weightlifting and at one point running five miles, seven days a week. McQueen also learned the martial art Tang Soo Do from ninth degree black belt Pat E. Johnson. However, he was also known for his prolific drug use (William Claxton claimed he smoked marijuana almost every day; others said he used a tremendous amount of cocaine in the early 1970s). In addition, like many actors of his era, he was a heavy cigarette smoker. He sometimes drank to excess, and was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Anchorage, Alaska in 1972.

McQueen had an unusual reputation for demanding free items in bulk from studios when agreeing to do a film, such as electric razors, jeans and several other products. It was later found out that McQueen requested these things because he was donating them to the Boy's Republic reformatory school for displaced youth, where he had spent time during his teen years. McQueen made occasional visits to the school to spend time with the students, often to play pool and to speak with them about his experiences.

After discovering a mutual interest in racing, McQueen and his Great Escape co-star James Garner became good friends. Garner lived directly down the hill from McQueen and, as McQueen recalled, "I could see that Jim was very neat around his place. Flowers trimmed, no papers in the yard ... grass always cut. So, just to piss him off, I'd start lobbing empty beer cans down the hill into his driveway. He'd have his drive all spic 'n' span when he left the house, then get home to find all these empty cans. Took him a long time to figure out it was me".

McQueen was an avid dirt bike rider, running a BSA Hornet. He was to co-drive in a Triumph 2500 PI for the British Leyland team in the 1970 London-Mexico rally, but had to turn it down due to movie commitments. He also owned and flew a 1931 Pitcairn PA-8 biplane, once flown as part of the U.S. Mail Service by famed World War I flying ace, Eddie Rickenbacker.

Oscar Party said...

Elton John has a reputation for bringing up-and-coming musical performers to his Oscar night bash—recent acts have included Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters and Raphael Saadiq—but this year he'll be veering off that course. Grace Jones will perform for guests at the 18th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation party on Sunday at the Pacific Design Center.

Jones's predictably unpredictable performance is likely to begin around 10 p.m., after the celebrity-heavy viewing party and dinner portion, which begins at 5 p.m., after a cocktail hour. The gala will have production by Virginia Fout of V Productions and design and flowers by Antony Todd. (Preview: Expect a modern look for the party space, with punches of bright orange.)

“Grace Jones is not only an amazing performer, but a dear friend and a fellow activist in the fight against HIV/AIDS,” John said in an announcement. “Without a doubt, Grace will put on a show for our guests that will have them talking for years to come. It is an absolute honor to have Grace as part of this evening that means so much to the foundation.”

I am curious why a movie that was shot in the late fall is starting to be screened? That's so odd.

I mean, Witherspoon's film started shooting earlier than LAOD and it has yet to be screened. Very strange. I wonder what's up with LAOD. It's doubtful the film has been fully edited or even partially edited. (When you go to an advance screening--as I have done--it's usually a few months before the few is released AND the film is pretty much edited except the opening/closing credits and score have not been added yet.

You're also given questionaires before you go to the screening and then you're asked to complete it before you leave. Again, if LAOD is going to be released in November, I wonder WHY they're doing this so early. Clearly, the movie hasn't been fully edited yet--unless they're using these early screenings to determine what should be cut and what should stay in.

These advance screenings can radically change a film--it completely altered the ending for "Fatal Attraction." In the original endin, Glenn Close's character commits suicide. But the screening audience hated her so much, they demanded she be murdered. SO Glenn Close was called back in and a new ending was reshot.

Colin Firth says he decided to step into the shoes of a gay professor for his Bafta award winning role because he wanted to go nude before turning 50. Firth's role in A Single Man has not only won him much critical acclaim and a best actor Bafta but also got him a nod for the 82nd Academy Awards.

"I pick up the script and it says, 'Naked man lies on bed.' And then a few pages in, 'Naked man jumps in ocean'...'Well,' I thought. 'It's time. One more push against gravity before I turn 50 and it's all downhill'," says Firth.

Prince Of Persia: Good Idea Or Bad?

New stills from the movie Prince Of Persia have been released and i am a little sketchy about this whole scenario. Jake Gyllenhaal is sexy, but I don't know if this movie will be good for him or bad.

I understand he is trying to up his career, moving up to the next level. This movie is the perfect platform to do so, but seeing Jake in this kind of role has me worried. He can carry a movie no doubt, but this will be interesting to see. It could work in his favor and make him the star he longs to be, or it could bomb and make view his other options. What do you guys think about this movie and how will it affect our Mr. Gyllenhaal?

Though you must admit. Even if he cannot pull it off, he sure as hell looks good doing it. Bet his exes are kicking themselves now. He is in the best shape of his life and looks amazing. So I'll give the movie a fair shot, but I must admit. It has to be pretty bad for me to bad talk a Gyllenhaal movie of any kind.

I am curious why a movie that was shot in the late fall is starting to be screened?

There are two types of advance screenings: testers and talkers. Different, but the same purpose - audience feedback. They are doing testers for LAOD.

"Tester screenings act as a dry run for studios to check that their film presses all the right buttons - or not. The target demographic is shown a draft of the movie and studio and distributors then judge whether to make changes. The results of test screenings also affect how the film is marketed.

The process of selection for the test audience is managed by NRG (National Research Group). It divides the market into four "quadrants": males under 25, males over 25, females under 25, and females over 25. (In some cases, respondents are also divided by race.) From its survey results, NRG projects how well upcoming movies will do against each other in each quadrant, should they open on the same weekend.

A talker screening is something different. A more indirect form of feedback, its purpose is to promote films to the public, to get the word out. It's the finished product, or very close to it - you won't prompt any re-cuts - but the studios want responses for future campaigns."

A way-early tester usually means that the studio is nervous and wants feedback as soon as they can get it. But because bad early reviews can harm a film, it could also mean they have trust in the material and think that any problems can be fixed.

Directors tend to test screen if they feel there’s something off but are not sure what it is.

Jugs and Other Drugs

Are you like us and completely sick of movies featuring men searching who meet a wacky elfin outsider girl who is impossibly adorable and precious/possibly insane, who then turns their world upside-down? Well, here comes Anne Hathaway to really shake things up by playing a wacky, precious elfin outsider girl who turns one’s world upside down AND has early-onset Parkinson’s disease! All the Amelies of the film world best start popping Sinemet CR. Oh, and getting naked. Someone posted at the IMDb message board for Anne’s new film, Love and Other Drugs, and spilled the beans:

Anne Hathaway meanwhile burns up the screen, and not just because she’s naked half the time. Even when she’s dressed you simply can’t take your eyes off her. I thought she was good in “Rachel Getting Married,” but in this one – as a free-spirit arty girl with early-onset Parkinson’s – she’s very funny and really hard-core.

This sounds promising for fans of Anne, boobs, and Anne’s boobs. But keep in mind that IMDb message board posters aren’t the most trustworthy lot. We try not to base our nudity news on reports from people who start flame wars about when and if Honey 2 will ever be made.

I've got a lot of time for Zwick. Glory, Legends of the Fall, and The Siege all exhibited solid, artisinal virtues; Blood Diamond and Defiance marked a distinct step-up. He would appear to be on a roll right now. And the last few years at the Oscars have felt terribly boysy. We haven't had a doomed romance since Titanic and we haven't had a good one since The Bridges of Madison County.

2:38 PM, LOL. She saw Jake on a preview i.e. on screen (PoP trailer most likely) not in the theatre.

Just saw Jake Gyllenhaal on a preview thing, and screamed.

I take it she liked POP trailer :)

Alright, I misunderstood. Thanks for clarifying.

Jakey watching Anne in AIWL?

Jakey doesn't have time for the cinema this weekend, with all those parties and preparations.

Trust me, heterosexuals are crazy about boobs.

Jakey needs his manicure, facials and beauty sleep for tomorrow.

She saw the PoP trailer before the movie Alice in Wonderland. Both from Disney.

you know you're in LA when Maggie Gyllenhal is sweating next to you in your very intense yoga class.

Wasn't there a lot of early chat about Brothers being great and it fizzled. Way too early to get excited about LAOD and its chances of success. Plenty of time left for the suits to muck it up. Still, it sounds a lot more promising than POP.

Lol, the Oscars used to be held on lowly Monday nights so they wouldn't be in the way of anything important. Now they are on Sundays and it's a big media and fashion event.

Early chat about Brothers - few mixed reports about test screening.

I hope Jake doesn't work on Monday!

^^They shouldn't have casted pretentious brat Portman in Brothers. Such an overrated actress.

I've just seen some Indie Spirit pics and my God, Maggie is so unattractive. Don't get me wrong, she's a good actress and smart, but so unfortunate looking. Jake got all the good looks in the family.

3:12--it was mostly raves about how fantastic the film was (hmm--PR flacks working their magic)--except one review I remember was mixed.

3:19, when I went to see TDK for the second time, I swear a few guys behind me giggled when Joker called Rachel beautiful during the party crashing scene. It was awful.
