Playing gay, being gay
24 November 2005
This well might be the Year of the Gay at the Oscars. Not the year of the gay actor - heavens forbid - but the year when actors are rewarded for playing gay parts. Philip Seymour Hoffman has produced what is said to be a virtuoso account of Truman Capote's mincing style in Capote. Felicity Huffman, the put-upon one in Desperate Housewives, has been persuaded to play a male-to-female transvestite in Transamerica. And Annie Proulx's great short story, Brokeback Mountain, about an extended and tragic love affair between two cowboys, has been filmed by Ang Lee with Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal in the leads.
Oscars surely await some of these. There are half a dozen other big name actors playing gay roles this season, and it's evidently now a safe career move. It's worth noting, however, that none of these actors themselves is gay, and indeed most of them have been at some pains to distance themselves from any such suggestion. Michelle Williams, the mother of Ledger's child, appears in Brokeback Mountain as his character's betrayed wife. That, one must assume, could only happen when there was no possibility whatever of it being, for instance, a sardonic joke on a real-life gay affair. The casting of Williams is a spectacular example of the sexual alibi; for anyone who cares to wonder, we are reassured that this could only be a piece of "let's pretend", and the actor's real interests are nervously displayed on screen.
As if that wasn't enough, the actors in these films are always at pains to stress the incredible trauma involved in having to pretend to kiss a person of the same sex in front of cameras. To be fair, this is always a subject that unhealthily obsesses interviewers, but actors' responses are often highly amusing. Jake Gyllenhaal has said: "Heath and I were both saying, 'Let's get the love scenes over as fast as we can - all right, cool. Let's get to the important stuff.'"
We are left in no doubt at all. The actors in these films are so extraordinarily heterosexual that playing gay presents them with incredible challenges. Personally, I've spent a day down a working coal mine, and think that, as jobs go, being asked to snog Heath Ledger is not among the world's more demanding professional tasks.
But Hollywood, evidently, agrees with the actors. When you look at recent Oscars, the tendency is fairly clear. Tom Hanks - famously uxorious - won for playing a gay man in Philadelphia. Hilary Swank's burlesque turn as a transsexual teen in Boys Don't Cry followed, and then Charlize Theron won for the fat, ugly, lesbian serial killer in Monster. Of course, as is customary, some of the Oscar-winning credit goes to the make-up artist here - golly, look at Charlize, she's made herself all ugly - but most of it is surely down to the incredible fact that an artist was prepared to demean herself enough to play a lesbian.
When you look at the history of Oscar-winning performances, Hollywood's new enthusiasm for embracing minorities seems less than profound. Notoriously, the easiest way to win an Oscar is to play somebody bravely fighting against a physical condition or a mental handicap. The easiest route of all, in fact, is to play a gifted artist suddenly struck down by disability - the early years of the Academy awards are littered with long-forgotten tales of deaf sopranos and ballerinas with gout. As the "Kate Winslet" character in Ricky Gervais's series Extras scabrously observed, "Daniel Day-Lewis in My Left Foot? Oscar. Dustin Hoffman, Rain Man? Oscar. Seriously, you are guaranteed an Oscar if you play a mental."
The way Hollywood is rushing to reward heterosexual actors playing gay roles does not, really, reflect very well on its engagement. It is just too much like its fairly disgraceful engagement with mental and physical disability, and too much like rewarding a variety turn. Hollywood, so admiring of an actor's ability to project a sexuality not his own in these cases, has never been in a hurry to reward those far more common examples of gay actors convincingly playing heterosexual roles. In most cases, that involves rather more than the requirement of kissing this year's starlet in front of the cameras - a requirement no less or more demanding for a gay actor than Mr Gyllenhaal being asked to kiss Mr Ledger, surely. It may involve an actor's whole life.
One of the very striking things about this whole curious fashion is that not one of the actors involved is gay themselves. Moreover, it seems fairly likely, in view of the tone of the attendant publicity, that a studio just wouldn't cast a gay actor in one of these roles. It is quite impossible to imagine Heat magazine asking a gay actor how they enjoyed kissing their straight co-star, or indeed, their gay co-star. It would raise questions of enthusiasm which the world of publicity is not quite ready for and we can only, it seems, watch such kisses with the assurance, as swift as can be arranged, that nobody involved could possibly have derived pleasure from it.
But there's another, rather bigger reason why the studios wouldn't cast a gay actor in such a role. In America, evidently, there aren't any gay actors. One may grow rather satirical on the subject, but the truth is that whereas in every other country in the world it is widely accepted that theatre and film offer a congenial and sympathetic area in which gay men and women can work, this is simply not true in America. There are no gay actors - or at least, there weren't until Nathan Lane, to everyone's utter incredulity, came out. Of course, there were gay actors in America's past - James Dean, Cary Grant, Dirk Bogarde, Rock Hudson, Danny Kaye. Plenty of them, in fact. But, for whatever reason, there's hardly a single gay actor of recognisable stature working in Hollywood. An incredible fact.
Sooner or later, one of those non-existent gay actors will take a role as a gay character, and tell us all subsequently how difficult they found kissing their co-star, to general derisive hilarity. In fact, it's not hard to think of a recent film where exactly that situation arose, starring one of those gentlemen with a boyfriend on the payroll and a lady hired for the purpose of premieres. But Hollywood will only seem truly tolerant when it allows gay actors to play gay roles, kissing included, and no whining about it in the publicity afterwards. Until then there's - how should one put it - a slight air of Al Jolson about the whole business.

«Oldest ‹Older 1401 – 1600 of 1855 Newer› Newest»I did read Empire article, I'm just hopping that Jake is misquoted.
LOL, who gives a shit about the beard.
I want to know HOW he is going to handle the beard issue in public ;)
Patience is a virtue :)
I bet he is going to look like a fool, like now.
Jake will have a chance to promote the movie and himself, I hope he'll use it.
^^
me too! just not in the same way he is doing it now

Days since last appearance in completed film : 589 days (Rendition, 10/11/07)
Days since last firm movie booking : 368 (PoP, 5/20/08)
Days since last reported Reeke photo-op : 3
"Days since last reported Reeke photo-op : 3"
I don't think R/J arranged the last one, maybe they knew that stars attending the party would attract paparazzi though.
Reeke went to the party to be photographed, everyone knew that paparazzi will be there.
There is no need to call paparazzi for every photo op - celebrities know places with resident paparazzi.
"Jake and Heath actually playing tonsil hockey with dudes, though, is obviously a stretch."
Okay maybe this is a stretch, but does anyone know if Jake or Heath had their tonsils removed when they were kids? Maybe Ted knows this and it makes a diffference in the interpretation. There's plenty of pics of laughing Jake, (Heath too maybe) maybe someone here who's in the medical field and who knows what tonsils look like can tell if they're there or not.
^^LOL, I don't think Ted knows that. ;) And it's difficult to tell from laughing pictures.
Two major Hollywood box-office draws will join forces in the fall for a new Broadway play.
The New York Post reports that Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) and Daniel Craig (James Bond) will co-star in Keith Huff's A Steady Rain.
A Steady Rain tells of two seasoned cops whose lifelong friendship is severely tested when a seemingly routine domestic disturbance call results in the death of a young boy. When the horrific truth of the situation is revealed, one of the two must take the blame for the fatal mistake.

Um, 5:24, I think that's really a stretch. Ted basically outed Jake and Heath as straight men.
The question is why would he do this and contradict everything he has ever implied about Jake with his Toothy Tile stories. The only answer I can come up is that Jake was never Toothy and Ted is pointing the saga in a different direction.
I would love to read another, plausible, explanation.
"in some close shots it doesn't even look like as if they kiss (just pretending), also their hands often block the sight."
"Like here, it looks like Jake is kissing his cheek: pretending?"
Those techniques sure come in handy when I have to PR-kiss Reese!
"but you gotta love the crotch grinding"
Ugh thank god I haven't had to do that with the beard. Eww.
"The question is why would he do this and contradict everything he has ever implied about Jake with his Toothy Tile stories."
BI is one thing, outing an actor is something else.
Aside Jake and Austin NYC digital dance, did Ted ever imply that Jake is gay?
"They had to do it 13 times to get it right, cause Ang is very detail oriented."
13 times? Hell that's not even a warm up.
I wonder if Austin was Jake's only gay experience?
LMAO!
5:53 PM, you're hilarious.
Ted could have worded his article differently. He made Jake look straight on purpose, I think. He could have said that Jake and Heath of course didn't practice in real life whereas Robert and his actress did, so it's more authentic and better (in his opinion).
Why would Ted out Jake?
"I don't think R/J arranged the last one, maybe they knew that stars attending the party would attract paparazzi though."
"Reeke went to the party to be photographed, everyone knew that paparazzi will be there. There is no need to call paparazzi for every photo op - celebrities know places with resident paparazzi."
Reeke calling the paps, maybe, maybe not. But it's curious that Reeke was THE lead story about the Malibu party and they aren't all that interesting. Other celeb pics that showed up later were RDJ + wife Susan + son Indio and Tom Hanks. True, they aren't all that gossipy interesting now either lol, but at a HW producer party there would certainly be more than just those people. So it makes me wonder if Malibu was like Brandisi Italy, a pap who was hired for Reese had good timing and luck to catch a couple more celebs before the Reeke job was done.
Not out, just word it differently, the way I worded it above could either imply "practiced with each other" or "with other people". Ted didn't have to add with other dudes. You know what I mean?
I do. Did you send a letter to Ted? :)
I do. Did you send a letter to Ted? :)No, I didn't. You think I should ask him about his latest article?
Why not?
"Why not?"
OK, I'll do it. Can't promise tonight, but I'll do it tomorrow.
OK :)
Sophia Bush was more than happy to show her support for the Repeal Prop 8 cause, sporting a “Legalize Gay” shirt and waving a protest sign.
Also in attendance was Haylie Duff, who brought a homemade “Love Whoever You Want” sign, looking hot in a white tank top with distressed jeans and Vans slide-ons. Shanna Moakler made an appearance for the cause, dressed in an all-white ensemble, while Drew Barrymore flashed a peace sign for the paparazzi.
Other celebrities at the march included Emmy Rossum, Eliza Dushku, Kelly Osbourne, Perez Hilton, and Fall Out Boy hottie Pete Wentz.

Jacob Benjamin Gyllenhaal aka Toothy Tile aka Princess, hereforth named "Subject" as of today's date 05/27/09 added the following addendum to Confidentiality Agreement 3.0, revising as per "Sexual Activity with Subject" Part 1: Contractee Preliminary Requirements Section A.04 Grooming, effective immediately.
^^ LOL!
A word of advice, when you write to Ted, be sure to make your question as tightly worded as possible so he can't squirm out of it with a really ambiguous answer.
I know this from experience. I was the one who asked him who would break up first, Toothy and his beard or Toothy and Grey Goose. That was when he responded that Toothy had no reason to change his situation, he would continue for as long as he could with his beard and a little goose on the side. I am paraphrasing now because I didn't save the exact wording of Ted's answer.
"Plus, they don't give a damn about what people think of them…a tad unlike Jake G.'s smarmy acceptance speech in 2006."
I don't get it...maybe someone can shed some light, but what was so smarmy about Jake's best kiss acceptance speech in 2006. I thought it was a classy response to the handjobs joke that got old fast.
I was surprised that Ted nominated anything from Brokeback Mountain. He hated that movie, and he always disliked Heath.
I never did understand what any of that was about. Does anyone else know the history behind that?
Adam lambert comes out as a top, lol
forward vid to 1:17 for hilariousness

re: legitimate hero, I'd say he may be right in the (literally) literal sense. What were those 4 required characteristics of a "hero" in Greek tragedy that we learned in high school? I forget. Maybe his character reveals those characteristics or goes through those steps. One of them *is* struggling against the gods, so that's one down.
So "legitimate" as in "literal," versus "a true real historical human being."
Is that what you're talking about?
This was too easy lol ...
Aspects of the Greek tragic hero:
he/she must be of noble birth or hold an important social position
he/she is generally virtuous
he/she has a desire to do good deeds
he/she dies in the end of the play
P.S.: he dies? :,(
"The hero/heroine seems "better" than the other character(s), but there is a fate which overpowers this "good" character. Poor judgment by the protagonist (hero/heroine) causes a fall from grace and social ranking. Poor judgment is a tragic flaw, or error, called hamatria. It leads to personal catastrophe and unintended harm to others. Hybris (hubris), which means excessive pride or arrogance, is the most common type of hamatria. A hero/heroine's misfortune is an example of human fallibility (human's tendency to fail). Learning from the mistakes of others was an important part of Greek tragedy."
Thanks for the clip 10:46. Funny, outrageous and sweet all at the same time.
Okay so it's not the one you were expecting but hey every time someone comes out it helps.
Believe it or not, until very recently, the Discovery Channel never had an openly gay man on any of its programming. That all changed with their new reality show, Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment.
Jake Nodar: I think there are so many kids who really struggle with this and are brought up hearing that it's wrong. If I can be out there, really representing somebody from the gay community, and somebody a little different from what you typically see on TV, then that's just great.
On the Wild Side
"he/she dies in the end of the play"
Shit! They promised me a franchise!
"JAKE COMES OUT!"
Fuck, what a scare! Don't do that again!
GREAT GREAT article written by Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas in the Huffington Post about why he supports gay marriage. The best argument I've read, seriously.

"Fuck, what a scare! Don't do that again!"
Oh so you want us to change our names so you're the only Jake...not gonna happen, Princess!
"Ted isn't just implying, or stating, that Jake and Heath wouldn't be kissing each other, but also that they wouldn't be kissing other dudes either."
Yes, that's exactly what he's saying. What the hell, Ted?????
It's obviously sarcastic. Read the original. You have to imagine Ted saying it in a snide way -- hence the italics on "obviously".
I know sarcasm is hard to convey on the printed page, but really people here need to learn to read between the lines. Unless they're too young, or English is not their first language.
Ted also said last week that Reeke is for the press, so no, he is not easing up on that as one poster said. Some posters here are hysterical at the slightest provocation.
So "legitimate" as in "literal," versus "a true real historical human being." /
How would you explain "it's an honour" part?
Jake: "You're playing a legitimate hero, you know? I think it's an honour to do that."
"It's an honor to play a princess?"
Duh!

I am a straight man, with a big gay chip on my shoulder.
A while back on my Twitter page (yes, I know how ridiculous it sounds), I mentioned that, if I believed in the devil, Pat Robertson might be him.
Being a fairly liberal-leaning guy with either liberal friends or Republican and Christian friends who don't believe that being one has anything to do with the other, I was surprised at how many people took offense to what I had to say.
These people weren't friends of Mr. Robertson but friends, apparently, of God. They had "spoken" with him and he had assured them that he was no friend of the gays. He also told them that he loved America more than any other country and was a huge fan of Dancing With the Stars.
The small controversy or "Twitter-versy" (patent on phrase pending) all started when I had made the mistake of asking why two people of the same sex shouldn't be able to make the same life-long commitment and (more importantly) under the same god, as straight people. Why can't my gay friends be as happily married as my wife and I? It seemed simple to me, but let me start off by telling you a series of things that I believe to be true:
I am a person who believes that people are born gay. I don't think you have any control over what moves you or to whom you're attracted. That's why it's called an attraction and not a choice.
I believe that America is a great nation of even greater people. I also believe that anyone who says that this is a "Christian nation" has RHS, or revisionist history syndrome, and doesn't realize that most of our founding fathers were either atheist or at least could see, even in the 1700s, that all through Europe at the time, religion was the cause of so much persecution that they needed to put into their brand new constitution a SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE so that the ideals of a group of people could never be forced onto the whole. (I also find it funny when people point out to me that it says "one nation under god" in our pledge of allegiance, not realizing that this was an addition made in 1954 during the communism scare of the McCarthy era. It's not surprising, however, knowing that these same people would punch me in the mouth if I called Jesus a Jew.)
I believe the fact that an atheist, who doesn't believe in God at all, is allowed to enter into the holy land of marriage while a gay Christian is not, shows that this law is arbitrary. Are we to believe that anyone who doesn't live their life according to the King James Bible isn't protected by the same laws that protect those who do? Using the same argument that I've seen on the 700 Club, that would mean that Jewish, Hindu, or Muslim weddings are also null and void.
I believe that to deny this right to the gay population is to say to them, "this god is not your god and he doesn't love you." There isn't one person who is against gay marriage that can give me a reason why it shouldn't be legal without bringing God or their religion into it. Still, I'm amazed at the audacity of a small, misdirected group of the ultra-conservative Christian right wing, to spend millions of dollars, in a recession, on advertisements to stop two men or women who love each other from being able to be married, but when you present any opposition to them, they accuse you of attacking their religion. Isn't it funny that the people who are the quickest to take someone's basic rights to happiness are always the loudest to scream when someone attacks their right to do so?
But this isn't a paper about religion. How could it be? Since we clearly have a separation of church and state, how could a conversation about laws have anything to do with religion at all? I'm writing about basic civil rights. We've been here before, fighting for the rights of African Americans or women to vote, or the rights of Jewish Americans to worship as they see fit. And, just as whites fought for African Americans or Christians for Jewish Americans, straight people must stand up and be a voice for gay people.
I've heard it said before, many times, that if two men or two women are allowed to join into a civil union together, why can't they be happy with that and why is it so important that they call it marriage? In essence, what's in a name?
A civil union has to do with death. It's essentially a document that gives you lower taxes and the right to let your faux spouse collect your insurance when you pass away. A marriage is about life. It's about a commitment. And this argument is about allowing people to have the right to make that commitment, even if it doesn't make sense to you. Anything else falls under the category of "separate but equal" and we know how that works out.
The support of legalizing gay marriage is in no way meant to change the ideals of the section of Christians who believe that homosexuality is a sin. But we should refuse to let other people's ideals shape the way we live our lives. Each of us has a short ride on this earth and as long as we stay in our lane, and don't affect someone else's ride, we should be allowed to drive as we see fit.

I saw the pics there after the link was posted and I remember we all commented how the pics didn't seem so personal and taken by Reese, that most were public pics from the web. Well I went back tonight to check on a pic and I can't get into her pic section. Am I doing something wrong, did Twitter change something, or did Reese (or PR or whoever is doing her twitters) restrict access or delete the pic section? The conspiracy side in me is wondering if she (again or PR or whoever is doing her twitters) read our insights on the pics and realized they weren't fooling anyone into believing they were taken by Reese Witherspoon. Its just really odd that I can't find her photo section anymore.
I don't know what's "pic section", but pictures like "http://twitpic.com/5y9c8 - And the giant cookie cake!" are still there.
P.S. Looks like a fake twitter account to me.
What a great writing Rob, bravo!

Ewww.
That Reese twitter account is fake, can't believe anyone here actually believes thats real. Lot's of fake celeb twitter and that's one of them. "Jake" had one for a while but it was deleted, this one will be deleted eventually I assume.
Thanks 6:16, I was in the wrong area. Looks like you have to do a link from a pic in the tweet and it lets you go to all pics but you can't get to all pics direct from the profile page. Anyway I think the reese twitter is fake too, that's why I was checking on a pic. You know the Halloween 2007 one with some designer guy and she has on a mask? I tracked it using photo origination recognition and it came from the Perez Hilton site, you can see how her version of it had the "Gyllenho" that PH wrote cropped out. Frankly that's damning evidence that the twitter is fake because if it was really RW she would use the real pic and not have to use a pic from PH and crop out the nasty writing.
What's "photo origination recognition"?
What's "photo origination recognition"?

Rob's had his own gay gossip. Back in 2005, there was gossip about Rob being caught in bed with Tom Cruise by his wife, and that Tom quick went and found Katie. Rob addressed the rumors, saying "If I were gay," says Rob, "Tom wouldn't be on the top of my list. It would be Brad Pitt. I'm more offended by the rumours saying I'm Scientologist."

Aww, Sophia loves her gays :)
As I mentioned yesterday, recently discharged Army Lt. Dan Choi, the Courage Campaign, and a large group of protestors took part in a demonstration across the street from the entrance to the Beverly Hilton where Barack Obama attended a Democratic Party fundraiser last night.
L.A. Times: "During the protest, the crowd chanted, 'Out of the court, into the streets, we are ready to fight, we won’t be beat.' It was a reference to Tuesday’s state Supreme Court decision to uphold Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriage. 'The president made a promise when he made his speech about hope,' said Rick Jacobs, who chairs the Courage Campaign, an organizer of the protest. 'I bought that promise and I still buy that promise, but it’s time for him to start fulfilling that promise for all Americans.' Jacobs, who worked on Howard Dean’s presidential campaign in California, said that gay rights groups had collected 140,000 signatures for a petition asking the president to end the 'don’t ask, don’t tell' policy and to stop the firing of U.S. Army Lt. Dan Choi, an Arab language specialist who was ordered discharged after recently declaringthat he was gay on the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC. For the demonstration, Gustavo Yanez, 40, of Los Angeles had made a banner saying, 'Obama. We voted for change. Stop discrimination.'”

CRAWFORD'S NEW GAL PAL
DOES Chace Crawford have a new summertime fling? A spy who attended a dinner party thrown by fashion label Sergio Rossi at Sole East in Montauk tells Page Six that Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Esti Ginzburg, 19, was texting the "Gossip Girl" star all night Sunday and left the party to go meet up with him. Ginzburg is slated to star with Crawford in "Twelve," Joel Schumacher's adaptation of Nick McDonell's book about drug-addled NYC prep schoolers.

Hey, we are just doing our job.
This beautiful actress is both a television and film staple, and has been nominated at least half a dozen times for major acting awards. You might be interested to know, however, that her acting skills are not confined to the screen. She’s been married more than once, but is actually more interested in the same sex. Alas, the one woman for whom she is totally mad - also a very well known actress - got married in the past year to a man, driving our actress to tears.

Et tu, Lady GaGa?
Now that Adam Lambert is finished competing for the pole position in America's biggest (and often blandest) popularity contest, the powers that be -- and feverishly police their potential stars' reputations -- have deemed it a good time to unlock and unload all the secret Internet goodies they've kept hidden for the past four months.
The most talented American Idol contestant to ever grace the show's stage (except maybe Kelly -- I still count her performance of "Since U Been Gone" at the MTV Video Music Awards as a life changing experience) had his MySpace, Friendster, and other social networking profiles set to private until recently and now that everything is out in the open fans have gone to great lengths to find out exactly what Lambert has been up to -- and mixed up in -- over the past few years.
Here's a few of my favorite things that have been revealed:
* The above comment Lambert left on a friend's MySpace page proves that he was sassy, sexually deviant (just how I like 'em) and Rock 'n Roll way before he started shaking his hips and belting out Queen in front of millions of people.
* Another comment on a MySpace profile reads "hi doll... leave me messages when you call! :) Sorry i couldn't pick up, I was tied up. Literally. haha"
* Adam's Friendster profile's main pic shows the then purple-haired singer making out with his then boyfriend and features the following from his "about me" section: "I sing...all types...all the time...and loudly. (deal.) I'm an eccentric AQUARIUS. I love to sleep in. Visually and verbally expressive. 6'1" 170lbs 24 yrs. Openly Gay. Honest. Anylitical."
* He's apparently friends with Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (at least Friendster friends).
None of it is anything I didn't already know, but somehow finally seeing it there on my screen -- and said so plainly -- gets me just as excited as I did when I thought he had a chance of actually winning that stupid show. Social networking sites give us a little glimpse into people's lives -- and it's especially titilating when we come across profiles of people who weren't yet famous and didn't have any reason to suspect they should censor themselves (not that I'm convinced Adam would censor himself now. He seems pretty OK with who he is and what he's trying to represent). Here's hoping that AI was just the beginning for him and that at some point there won't be the need for secrecy or locking MySpace profiles -- even if the big reveal is always kind of fun.
Finally -- if you haven't checked out the great American Idol Op-Ed Out's Editor in Chief Aaron Hicklin wrote for the Washington Post this past weekend, get on it.

LOL!
Going back to Ted's comments of yesterday for a minute. I am an American and can read as well as anyone. I recognized Ted's sarcasm, but the implication of the sarcasm is that it would be silly for anyone to think that Heath or Jake would kiss guys in reality. The only other interpretation I could come up with would be Ted implying that the reason two obviously straight men were chosen is so that no one would ever think that these men would ever be kissing other men for real (ironically, making it easier for the public to accept them in those roles).
If neither of these is the correct implication of the sarcasm, I would be interested to know what a different interpretation would be.

hello... hapi blogging... have a nice day! just visiting here....
Hi Hapi! :)
Dear Ted:
Used to be a regular poster in your A.T. message boards. Reading your Robsten Twi tarts brought back memories of true and educated Brangelina fans. It was wild and crazy! Don't you ever wonder what happened to the awesome group of gypsysoul84, the smart and sassy Ga.Peach...the nice and collected darkangel52 and the fence-sitting MD.123? Can you give them a shout-out to comeback? They would be great examples to your sometimes-unruly Robsten brats. Thanks.
—Baker
Dear Smith-Twilight Showdown:
We should get some good ol' Jake Gyllenhaal regulars in the lineup, too.
Dear Ted:
Has anyone ever guessed Topher Grace as Toothy Tile? I know it's so wrong to be so concerned about someone's sexuality, but damn it, Ted, you've made it into this addicting little game!
—R.R.
Dear Fall From Grace:
I've lost track of all the Toothy guesses, but Topher ain't Tile. Very close, though. In lotsa ways. Like dimples.
AT
Does Jake have dimples?
Yes. Two pairs of dimples.
Dear Ted:
There's no better way to start my day than with a steaming hot cup of Truth of the most Awful kind. Please tell me, has Jamie Foxx been the subject of a Blind Vice?
—Another Robsten fan
Dear Hot To Trot:
Oh yeah.
"A.T. message boards - We should get some good ol' Jake Gyllenhaal regulars in the lineup, too."
Were those Jake or Toothy regulars?
"Jake and Heath actually playing tonsil hockey with dudes, though, is obviously a stretch. So why should Robsten win? Because those two practicing their smooches offscreen is much more realistic."
I think Ted's only saying that Robsten are lovers in real life, and Heath and Jake weren't.
"with dudes" refers to kissing other men, not just each other.
Yes, I know, I'm just focusing on the "practicing offscreen" part.
You should focus on both.
Ted was being sarcastic, not ironic. Unless, you think Ted is implying that it's ironic for two straight men to play two gay men in a film which would make no sense since that is the nature of being an actor.
Now I am curious. If you think Ted was being ironic, could you explain how and what he was trying to imply because I still read his statement as both Jake and Heath are/were straight.
Sergio Garcia stood in the gymnasium and told the senior class at Fairfax High School not to worry: If he was elected, he wouldn't wear a dress.
"I will be wearing a suit," Garcia said, "but don't be fooled, deep down inside, I am a queen!"
Garcia, 18, spent most of his years at Fairfax openly gay and wanted to be part of the Los Angeles school's prom court -- but not as prom king. He felt that vying for prom queen would better suit his personality, so he decided to seek that crown, running against a handful of female classmates.
He said it started out as a bit of a stunt and challenge -- he wasn't sure the school would allow it. But his campaign for queen ended up being serious and sparking dialogue about gender roles on campus. A few days before the dance and election, the contenders gave short speeches on why they deserved the crown.
"At one time, prom may have been a big popularity contest where the best-looking guy or girl were crowned king and queen. Things have changed and it's no longer just about who has the most friends or who wears the coolest clothes," Garcia told the crowd of seniors. "Sure, I'm not your typical prom queen candidate. There's more to me than meets the eye."

Let it go, no-ones interested and you're beginning to sound tedious. Just live with the fact that yes, you read it one way, most people either couldn't care less or read it another. Repeating the same old argument ain't going to convince / convert anyone.
Let people speak :)
Is Pennsylvania Ready to Take California's Spot As the Next Gay Marriage State?
It's not New England, but it's close! This news arrives just days after Republican State Sen. John Eichelberger said he intends to introduce a bill to — you guessed it — amend the State Constitution to limit nuptials to opposite marriage. "Civil rights organizations across Pennsylvania today commended Pennsylvania State Senator Daylin Leach for his intention to introduce legislation that would grant full marriage equality to same-sex couples. The Value All Families Coalition praised Senator Leach’s longstanding dedication to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, calling the proposed legislation an inspiring glimpse into the future of equality for all Pennsylvania couples.
Senator Leach’s decision to introduce an inclusive marriage bill comes as other states, including Iowa and Maine, pass same-sex marriage legislation and one day after California’s Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8, an amendment to California’s constitution prohibiting marriage between same-sex couples. It also comes at a time when the Pennsylvania House of Representatives is debating House Bill 300, legislation to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Pennsylvanians from discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations." In the wake of its appearance at the Cannes Film Festival this past week, three new clips from Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus have appeared online via the French site Comme Au Cinema.

Sweet Jesus. Heath's voice. To hear that purring into your ears.
SIGH.
SIGH.
So say statistics, anyway! Gayblog TheSword recently compiled some Craigslist data, and figured out that when men are looking online to do sex with other men, certain cities trend heavily toward the receiving end. Chief among them is Houston—where 70% of folks are looking to fill the void.
Yes of the ten cities surveyed, only three, in fact, had a higher ratio of tops to bottoms, and even then the numbers were almost even. But Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, and (surprise surprise) San Francisco, all seem rife with untended bottoms all reaching out across the cyber tundra, hoping to find some fleeting relief.
New York, of course, had the highest percentage of tops seeking companionship, because it's just that kinda town, I guess.

Poor Jake! lol
I keep saying the boy needs to move New York.
My thoughts exactly :)
Inside Marc Jacobs's party for Lorenzo Martone /
Confirming that Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone are the most sought-after couple in town, Jesus Luz and Madonna were among the 150 friends who came to the recent party Marc threw for his fiance's 30th birthday. At the not-yet-opened-to-the-public nightclub Avenue, guests (including Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Genevieve Jones, Larry Gagosian, Rachel Feinstein and John Currin) were treated to cocktails, sparklers and dancing, with music courtesy of Burberry's Alex Malgouyres. Luz even spent some time behind the turntable (we hear he's hoping to DJ as well as model). For the finale, there was a cake in the shape of a bear. Why a bear? It's a term of endearment the scruffily-bearded couple have for each other.

OT - Anyone else agrees that Rachel Weisz is VERY beautiful? And that woman's pushing 40.
Rachel @ Cannes
^^If Jake was straight, which I don't think he is, I think a woman like Rachel would have been good for him.
6:20 PM
Yes, she is! BTW, that's a bad picture of her :)
Rachel Weisz looking great in Cannes
"that's a bad picture of her :)"
You think? I agree that there are better ones. Her skin looks great though. :)
I think a woman like Rachel would have been good for him.
^^
She is too mature for him,
Jake needs to put an end to his Oedipus complex ASAP!^
Where are all the nice, burgeois 20/25 years old girls in California?? Why don't they want to date Jakey?
"Rachel Weisz looking great in Cannes"
She is so pretty and seems intellingent too from what I've read. :)
Does she have a cute brother?
"Where are all the nice, burgeois 20/25 years old girls in California?? Why don't they want to date Jakey?"
They probably want, but Reese is more experienced in the business and probably has more connections to alpha dogs than Jake. Think about it, if he didn't date (if he's really dating her that is) Reese, who would still care about him? I think, not many. I bet there'll be Reeke overload when he starts to promote POP. They totally use their relationships to promote their careers. I don't think Rachel Weisz would do that. ;)
Jake isn't dating Reese and he can count on her to keep his little gay secret to herself.
"who would still care about him?"
More people/fans would care about single Jake.
I think Anne Hathaway would be nice for Jake, but unfortunately I don't think he particularly liked her.
"More people/fans would care about single Jake."
He couldn't have stayed single forever. If he dated a less known or unknown woman, who isn't a famewhore, people would respect him more, but wouln't care too much until a new movie with him with public appeal came out. If POP turns out to be an entertaining flick and a B.O. hit, new fans will be added to his fanbase.
...new fans will be added to his fanbase.... whether he's dating Reese or not.
Really?
6:47 PM
Jake is gay. That's the reason he needs a beard, not a girlfriend.
"new fans will be added to his fanbase"
Really?
"If You Live In Houston, You're Probably a Bottom" "Gayblog TheSword recently compiled some Craigslist data, and figured out that when men are looking online to do sex with other men, certain cities trend heavily toward the receiving end."
Okay probably a stupid question and maybe the answer is in the "For those of you who need these wacky terms explained" vid but since its for 18+older you have to register blah blah to see it (jeeze) I'll ask here. I know bottom means receiving/passive in anal but what is it in oral bj/ff-sf/tf? I mean I kind of know but the article is confusing. (I need to know where to move to j/k LOL)
Hard question! :)

"I think Anne Hathaway would be nice for Jake, but unfortunately I don't think he particularly liked her."
Yeah she's too outspoken about gay rights and same sex marriage and her brother being gay and she wears the LGBT white bows on her gown and clothes..he can't have that type hanging around him and tarnishing his straight image. Ever notice how in the last 3 bearding years Jake for the most part (Mike White and Austin are excetptions) not only hasn't said one word about gay issues in California but he also avoids being seen with gay people or pro-gay people? Even pics at that Kate Hudson Halloween party with that designer guy (can't remember his name) he hung back behind Reese all slumped and reluctant. Speaking of Reese, she's safe for Jake's image because she's into good ol traditional-gender-role country music, she's active in (well, paid by Avon to be active in) violence for women, which is 99.999% a heterosexual issue involving husbands and wives, and she believes that bullying is good for children....oh and she's never spoken out for gay rights or gay marriage and never will.
Anne's brother is gay and cute, but he's off the market.
"I know bottom means receiving/passive in anal but what is it in oral bj/ff-sf/tf?"
Can't watch that video from my country and can't figure out anything about "ff-sf/tf". lol
7:17 PM, yes Anne is very supportive of gay rights. I respect her for that.
Even though I don't know her personally, I like her. Although sometimes she comes off as materialistc, but I guess nobody is perfect. ;)
I found it interesting that in a recent interview Anne mentioned working with talented people like Heath and Michelle and didn't mention Jake. My feeling tells me there won't be a big Anne/Jake lovestory in the near future. ;)
"Can't watch that video from my country and can't figure out anything about "ff-sf/tf". lol"
You can fill in the rest: face-skull/thraot
sorry, throat lol

He wanted to find out what being a top was like!
US Reekly has a full page spread with the softball kissing pictures. The story is all about how attentive and supportive Jake is....also guess who loves him? Reese's mom! She thinks he is a total gentleman!
Vomit.
I can't believe people believe this stuff. It is right out of 1953.
Reese's marketing tool can only be "attentive and supportive". LOL
8:08, any direct quotes from Jake or Mamma? Didn't think so. Well, maybe on Mamma I would..the Chin didn't get to be her narcissistic famewhoring self all on her own.
"Reese's marketing tool can only be "attentive and supportive"."
ITA it's fuckin hilarious! First of all how can he not be attentive with all that damn caffeinated coffee he has to drink on the photo ops and as for being supportive, shit what does that mean, that he shows up for them? Hell......LOL.
I thought it was pretty obvious that the softball pics were for a US Reekely photo shoot.
I have to admit that I always thought people on WFT2 and OMG were paranoid whenever they said that they would mention something Reeke should or shouldn't do and it would then show up in a photo op or rag story because Reeke PR monitored both sites. But, now I must say I am convinced. About 2 weeks ago someone on either WFT2 or OMG that it was strange how tabloid stories always try to stress how much Jake's family loves the Chin, how the Chin was at Maggie's bridal shower, etc, but it has the Chin's family is never mentioned. Low and behold the latest US Reekely story has how much the Chin's mother loves Jake because he's such a pussy, sorry gentleman.
Big WFT2 and OMG mouths!
I was one of the ones who asked for some reeses family stuff. Ev you should send me a check. Momma W loves Jakey. AHHHHHHHHHHH. PUKE!!!!!!!!

Jake needs a new fan base. He just gave the finger to his old fan base. Jake the Fake will give th finger to his new fan base if that ever happens when he is done with them.
"He couldn't have stayed single forever."
Why not?
He is her puppet. It is really sickening. Even if they were a real couple he looks like such a doofus with her. According to In Touch they were the first to arrive at Joel Silver's party Gyllenspoon didn't want to miss a moment.
The "special" fan base, apparently wasn't enough to make "Jarhead" or "Rendition" a major hit. So, why would you expect Jake's management be worried about retaining you. They made the decision that the gay rumors are part, if not most, of the reason for his difficulites. So they made a cold, hard decision to do whatever it takes to tamp them down if not kill them off.
Whether we think it's worked isn't really relevant. I can only believe that Jake's people have research that is telling them that their campaign must be having the impact they want, whatever that may specifically be.
I am almost hoping POP will be a major success for him so it will give him the confidence he needs to forge a true creative path for himself, whether he comes out or not.
Let's forget "special" fan base for a moment.
Jake's PR thinks that Hollywood needs another cute but "nobody's home" bland actor? Maybe they should think again.
Jake is on his way to become another Josh Harnett. And PoP may become a success but will having a role in a formulaic blockbuster truly catapult him to superstardom? Really? Go ask Orlando Bloom about that? Or Tobey? Or Brendan Fraser? You need more than just a formulaic role in a franchise to get you a great career and great roles. (Need evidence of that? I present Johnny Depp--great talent, great presence, great versatility, good looking and very likable---Jake should hope to have an eighth of what he has on a good day).
The problem with the comparisons to people like Johnny Depp is that I don't think Depp has ever had the kind of persistant gay rumors surround him that Jake has had. Jake Twist was the greatest role he's ever played but it also, rightly or wrongly, played into the gay rumors. Jake intially embraced the notoriety provided by the rumors, but over the course of time, I think the rumors may have begun to work to his disadvantage. Jake didn't have a girlfriend and baby like Heath to deflect them.
His people conviced him that bearding was the only available option. There may have been other issues in his personal life that also played into his decision. It will be interesting to see how it all eventually shakes itself out.
I think we underestimate just how unenlightened the majoriy are.
OK I wanna see Jake sitting about eating chitterlings with the G'Spoon clan.
But Jake doesn't have Depp's talent. And by the way, this is a simple aside but Depp is a great guy. Not just because he stepped in for Heath (along with Colin and Jude) to finish his role in IoDP but because he has a rep of being a wonderful person. For several years now, Depp has been voted the most fan-friendly movie actor. He consistently is nice and pleasant to fans who stop him--he also was voted most autograph-friendly film actor too. He's a great actor. And remember when he donated his salary from IoDP to Matilda? And he threw that party celebrating Heath's Oscar win (for Heath's family who were in LA and Michelle and Matilda who were photographed outside Johnny's house with Dermot Mcwhateverhis name--gee I wonder if Jake was invited--cough) even though Johnny wasn't there at the time. But he had them use his house.
Great guy. But Jake is a young guy and maybe he'll grow up one day...
"But Jake is a young guy and maybe he'll grow up one day..."
Not that young, he's pushing thirty.
I don't dispute anything you've written 10:01, but I am not aware of Depp having to deal with the kind of persistant gay rumors that Jake has had surround him which was the point of my post.
And if I am not mistaken, Depp didn't hit his stride as a film actor until he was in his thirties. And not every one of his films has been a commercial or critical hit.
I also think it would be good for Jake to go to London or New York and work on stage. Really establish himself as a dramatic, serious and versatile. actor. Get away from the Hollywood bubble and surround himself with a more open, creative environment.
Yes, but Jake is NOT interested in doing that. He's not interested in honing his skills as an actor. Maybe he was in his early years but now he just wants to be a movie star, make lots of money and have all the trappings attached to fame and fortune and that's it. Maybe it was Heath's death that did this to him. I don't know but Witherspoon and that ilk are not good influences on him when it comes to his career. Look at RW. I think she's a much better actor than Jake (she even has an Oscar) but ever since Rendition, it's all about the paycheck for her. That's it.
Maybe he'll get good reviews in "Brothers" and that will steer him back into picking decent roles again. But I also suspect that Jake isn't getting the roles he wants now (and it has nothing to do with gay rumors).
Jake shot himself in the foot by holding out for big bucks after BBM, and didn't take the opportunity to do something interesting while he was still hot. And I agree, Jake is in a hurry to make the big bucks and be a STAR, and that is hard, particularly for men in their 20s, most men don't really get the juicy roles until their 30s. Jake may have his franchise, but honestly, how many top directors would want to work with him now that he's tabloid fodder?
Maybe the gay rumors hurt him, but I think if he'd gotten good advice and not held out for money, got pissy about working with Fincher, etc., he still could have found good work. I think the only thing that required him to beard was PoP, and nobody was putting a gun to his head and forcing him to take a movie like that.
Being Reese's bitch is not going to bring the fans into the theaters either.
What about me? Still single, still getting plenty of work.
HE should be Jake's lover/mentor:
From gossiprocks.com
"On the George C. note, I had it confirmed by a TOTALLY unrelated source that Clooney prefers men. This comes from someone outside the Biz who has a son in the Biz in LA. It's kinda like a Rock Hudson - Cary Grant kinda secret out there."
Personally, I think George is bi (he does like his trashy women) but he prefers guys. I remember hearing a rumor a few years ago (very unsubstantiated) that he had a flirtation with Jake, who once spent a night in his LA condo.
Are we sure that Jake was holding out for big bucks after BBM?
I 've always wondered why Heath seemed able to pull back from film making and just do the movies he wanted to do. Heath was nominated for an Oscar but didn't win. Jake won a BAFTA. Neither Cassanove nor Candy was a success, and no one was sure what would happen with TDK. Yet I get the sense that Heath was turning down the kind of roles that Jake wasn't even being offered. I am refering to the period up to Heath's death.
US Weekly makes it up as it goes along, and they are totally on the CAA payroll. When your star hasn't been seen in movie theaters since Oct. 2007, staging photo-ops and planting rumors in gossip rags is all that PR can come up with.
"Yet I get the sense that Heath was turning down the kind of roles that Jake wasn't even being offered. "
Greater talent and constant hetero-baiting, sometimes at Jake's expense.
What do you mean by "heterobaiting?" And how was it at Jake's expense?
'hetero-baiting' : conspicuous girlfriend and love-child
'at Jake's expense' : Heath said that he would never take the role of Jack Twist. Alot of HW actors said the same thing (including Tom Cruise). Why? Because Jack was too gay (ie. non-self-loathing and a bottom).
Jake took the part, and in my opinion, stole the film because of it. How does that make Jake look?
Do the math.
As much as I love Jake, Heath had more talent than Jake has in his pinky, and he was far more versatile, he could disappear into a role in a way Jake never can.
And Heath didn't mind turning around and doing indie films, and who knows, maybe Jake thought he was above that.
I think Jake has gotten crappy advice from his people, and he's not smart enough to see it. He should dump them all and start over.
I was with you about Heath being the greater talent, but then you veered off into fantasy land. Because Heath got involved with Michelle (the same Heath who had a history of getting involved with his female co-stars and whose list of conquests could probably fill a stadium) and later had a baby with her, he was "hetero-baiting? You can't be serious; you just can't.
Heath didn't take the role of Jack Twist because he didn't feel he was right for the character emotionally. It had nothing to do with his Jack's sexuality. Heath had played a gay character before; he was put off by Jack Twist's sexual nature.
Jake stole the film? Maybe in a parallel universe, but not in this dimension.
I agree with 12:10.
I am 12:12, and I meant to say that Heath was not put off by Jack's sexual nature.
I completely agree with 11:54. Jake was far and away the best thing about BBM. Jack Twist is the most revolutionary character in film in years, and that is why most actors in HW did not have the balls to play him. Jake gets the hell on my nerves half of the time, and god knows he's in trouble now, but the decision he made to play Twist, and to do it do unflinchingly, exceeding the expectations of everyone, including Annie Proulx, was one of the most courageous acts that I have ever seen.
And anyone who thinks that Heath chose Ennis strictly because he was 'better suited' for it temperamentally is nuts. He made a shrewd career calculation, just like ninety nine percent of the male actors in HW. He played the kind of self-loathing gay man that most straight actors could play, he played that character as straight as possible, and he made sure that everyone knew he was straight by knocking up his girlfriend and running away from Jake and the movie as fast aspisdible after the awards season was over.
I'm not any of you above discussing Jake/Heath and the BBM roles but actually if I recall correctly both initially thought they were playing the other character, but Ang said no, Jake is going to be Jack and Heath is going to be Ennis. So there go those role/career theories on both your sides.
"Jake gets the hell on my nerves half of the time, and god knows he's in trouble now, but the decision he made to play Twist, and to do it do unflinchingly, exceeding the expectations of everyone, including Annie Proulx, was one of the most courageous acts that I have ever seen."
Yes, Jake was great in BBM and I'll always love him for taking the part but before you downplay Heath you should know that Annie Proulx said Heath WAS Ennis, that he knew him better than she ever did. She was the most impressed with him.
Your second paragraph is BS.
We spend all of our time talking about the Harvey Milks of the world, but you want to know real courage? Try being openly gay, non self loathing and desirous of a long term gay relationship in rural Wyoming in the fifties and sixties. Now, that's courage for you. It's easy to be gay in San Francisco. Try it in Wyoming, and we'll quickly separate the heroes from the poseurs. Liberating the Jack Twists of the world was a huge part of what Stonewall was all about.
What did the illustrious, pioneering Heath do in BBM? He played a character that we've seen in film for sixty years - a self loathing gay man who treats his homosexuality like a disease, like gambling, drug abuse or alchoholism. He played a character that most straight actors could play. So much for revolutionary acting. And he played the straight acting, self loathing gay man in BBM knowing that he would not bag a part in a franchise if he had tons of gay rumors swirling around him, which is exactly the thicket that Jake walked into when he took the Twist part.
No one is denying that Heath was talented, but anyone who thinks that the Twist part was easier or as easy as Ennis, that Jake exhibited no courage in opting for the gayest part in the movie, or that Heath had the balls and self awareness to do a better job than Jake as Twist, is crazy.
"But Jake is a young guy and maybe he'll grow up one day..."
Not that young, he's pushing thirty."
Because people started to compaare with J. Depp - when Depp was thirty, he was arrested for smashing and trashing a New York suite. And in 1999 he was arrested in London for being in a fight with paparazzi outside a restaurant (not that I blame him). Not to mention the drug stories in his "Viper Room" in front of which R. Phoenix died from an overdose.
The role of his life - Jack Sparrow he got when he was 40!
For Jake - we do not know what happens behind the scenes, whether he gets the roles he wants or not. I will wait until "Brothers" and "PoP" will ome out. Brothers won´t be a BO hit but it would be good for his reputation if he gets good reviews. Interesting to see what happens with POP - look at films like "Wolverine" or "Terminator Salvation" - respected actors, well known characters or plots but critically and financially bombs.
And speaking of Heath - with all his reputation, Depps, Laws and Ferrells and Terry Gilliam and a showing in Cannes "Parnassus" was until today not able to get a distributor (perhaps during the next weeks). This speaks volumes to me - if the PTB don´t think a film is interesting for a mainstream audience and will be able to make money it is dead in the water.
Some of you obviously need to read Brokeback Mountain - the short story. Ennis is blond, taller than Jack, lean, more masculine. Jack is dark haired, shorter, bulkier. On what planet would Jake have been right for the role of Ennis and Heath for that of Jack????
Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry saw Heath in Monster’s Ball and they thought he’s perfect to play Ennis. That’s right, ENNIS DEL MAR!!! But hey, they're only the screenwriters and Ang the director, what the hell do they know? Some of you know better.
Get your facts straight and quit inventing stuff just to put Heath down. You don’t like him or his performance, no problem, but no need to make ridiculous things up.
"The role of his life - Jack Sparrow he got when he was 40!"
The role of his life? What an insult!
"The role of his life - Jack Sparrow he got when he was 40!"
The role of his life? Give me a break. Sorry but Johnny Depp is much more talented and verstile and has more charisma than Jake will ever have. Spin it as you wish, it's the truth.
2:58 AM#1, why are you so frustrated?
"The role of his life? Give me a break"
Yes, the role of his life. He was in much better films and had more versatile roles (and much worse also) but if you ask someone, not filmbuffs but the normal moviefan about Johnnys most famous role, you will get the answer "Jack Sparrow", not Gilbert Grape, not Ichabod Crane or William Blake. And it was, with all his versatility the first role that brought him an Oscar nomination.
And that is also the truth.
He played the kind of self-loathing gay man that most straight actors could play, he played that character as straight as possible, and he made sure that everyone knew he was straight by knocking up his girlfriend and running away from Jake and the movie as fast aspisdible after the awards season was over..
You keep repeating this all the time. It's bullshit. If Heath didn't carry the film as great as he did, it wouldn't have been as successful. I'm greatful that he, particularly, did such a gerat job and got as great reviews and attention for the movie, so many people went to watch it. There was a big pressure, esp. on him, to do a good job. Jake was very loveable as Jack Twist and I fell in love with his character like many, many others did. BBM wasn't Heath's first gay role btw, he played a gay cyclist in Sweat. And you go on my neverves about Heath running away from Jake. Why would he want him to be his kid's godfather then? Heath also invited Ang Lee to the NYC premiere of INT, how is that distancing from the BBM.
I think some of you here just don't like Heath and won't give him a break. It's useless arguing, I guess.
gerat = great
neverves = nerves
Sorry for all the spelling mistakes.
If you read the interviews with the writers Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry, they said after they saw "Monster's Ball" they wanted Heath for Ennis. They suggested him to Ang Lee. I know this is a Jake fansite and most probably don't know much about Heath, but try to get some facts straight at least before attacking Heath.
"2:58 AM#1, why are you so frustrated?"
lol, I was thinking the same thing. What 2:58#1 needs is a good lay, might do wonders for the bitter sourpuss. :)
Does this mean Nailed is finished?

"Back on the big screen in the coming months" is very vague, I would say it doesn't mean Nailed is finished.

I don't think Heath would have posed with Ang in Venice and then invite him to the "I'm Not There" premiere if he wanted to distance himself from BBM. JMO.

Don't pick on 2:58 AM #1, Jake deserves the praise for BBMt :)
Ang at INT premiereSorry I'm just tired of the "distancing" accusations regarding Heath.
Moving on now. :)
"Jake deserves the praise for BBMt :)"
Of course he does, no one says he doesn't.

Annie Proulx - When she was interviewd at the Oscars, she said it shouldn't be Heath Ledger, but Heath Legend. She liked him a great deal and Jake too. :)
"Of course he does, no one says he doesn't."
So why are you calling 2:58 #1 bitter?

'Brothers'
Six-time Oscar-nominated writer/director Jim Sheridan ("My Left Foot," In the Name of the Father," "In America") helms this adaptation by David Benioff ("The Kite Runner") of Susanne Bier's 2004 Dutch-language film. One brother — Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal ("Brokeback Mountain") — takes care of the other's ( Tobey Maguire) wife ( Natalie Portman) a little too well when he goes off to war in Iraq.

No one said he doesn't. Read again. But that post is about dismissing Heath and his work in BBM rather than praising Jake. How about just gushing about Jake’s performance without putting Heath’s down?
"So why are you calling 2:58 #1 bitter?"
Read her/his comment. S/he is misinformed about many things and tries to put Heath down to elevate Jake. It's kind of pathetic. I personally wouldn't compare their acting at all, very different as Ang Lee said. Both were great in their own way.

You should keep in mind most here are biased and have disliked Heath from the very start. You can't expect objectivity or fairness. But sometimes posts like 2:58#1's become so ridiculous, some have to step in.

I don't think so.
"I don't think so."
Then you can't read.
"You should keep in mind most here are biased..."
We are discussing art and emotions - all people are biased about them.
