Too Close For Comfort

September 4, 2008

Dear Ted:
Is Baby Tile human or animal?
C.L. in Pa.

Dear Little of Both:
As human as something can be in this town.

Dear Ted:
I just had an epiphany...is Toothy Tile Liev Schreiber? Baby on the way, same age as Affleck. Come on, it's killing me not to know.
Gillian

Dear Too Close for Toothy's Comfort:
Not exactly. Actually, not at all. But L and the real Tooth do have so much in common, true.

One Boyishly Bothered Blind Vice

Isn't it interesting Lloyd Boy-Toyed is undertaking his latest media campaign to fight off rumors about everything under the tabloid sun—every topic save the one he wants to get out: that he sometimes likes young dudes in bed. Not Michael Jackson-style, mind you, but he sometimes likes 'em young. And to keep quiet. And you know what that means, doncha girlfriends? Occasionally Mr. Boy-Toyed's gotta give 'em the green. What a cold, hard, cashed-out town this can be, huh?

Let's see, Lloyd's busy mouthing off about his nasty battles with most everybody in the Biz, not to mention his more cherished (and known) companions and relatives. He appears to be a total crank-a-thon, really, but don't believe it for a sec. Oh, some of it's real, that's fer sure, but it's mostly for show, I assure you.

I have firsthand knowledge of Lloyd's more cunning agendas—not to mention the ones he prefers to get underway under the covers. Don't ask me how. I can't tell! I'm a married man now! I would never embark on something as nasty as tattling 'tween the sheets when I've got a superhoney at home. Quite the opposite of how Lloyd goes about things, trust.

Really, though, as sloppy as Lloyd's getting in the attempting-to-score department, he's gonna be out long before our beloved Toothy Tile, I assure you. Oh, and Lloyd-baby, I don't care, really. But, your blind-as-merde fans sure will. I say screw it, already! (Like you have so many guys.)

And It Ain't: Matthew Perry, David Duchovny, Kanye West

Jake explained why so many takes was a problem for him. Why is that a bad thing? Fincher was in charge and Jake did what Fincher told him to do just like everyone else on the set.

Money doesn't change the fact that everyone is entitled to an opinion and that Fincher isn't God.

Anonymous said...

No one said Fincher is God.

Jake Gyllenhaal has spoken frankly about Fincher’s directing style: “David knows what he wants, and he’s very clear about what he wants, and he’s very, very, very smart. But sometimes we’d do a lot of takes, and he’d turn, and he would say, because he had a computer there” — the movie was shot digitally — ” ‘Delete the last 10 takes.’ And as an actor that’s very hard to hear.”

Gyllenhaal’s candid confession of his frustrations with Fincher’s degree of control over his performance led the director to joke: “I hate earnestness in performance,” adding, “Usually by Take 17 the earnestness is gone.” While he had no objections to having fun, he said, “When you go to your job, is it supposed to be fun, or are you supposed to get stuff done?”

No one said Fincher is God.

Good. In that case Fincher can be questioned like any other artist or professional.

Watts: 'Lesbian Love Scenes Are Easier'

Hollywood star NAOMI WATTS prefers filming love scenes with women, because there is no "sexual tension" between females.

The actress, who shared a same-sex kiss with Laura Harring in 2001 movie Mulholland Drive, insists she is more at ease filming intimate scenes with women than men.

She says, "The easiest sex scene I have done was in Mulholland Drive. That's because it was with another woman. "There was no awkwardness and there was no sexual tension."

Though he's not God, he is a great director and should have gotten a directing nod for Zodiac. He's underrated.

Anonymous said...

Mulholland Drive is such a good movie.

Anonymous said...

No worries. Jake and Fincher make up again and seemed to get along at the Cannes Film Festival. All good again.

Anonymous said...

David F is a compulsive-obsessive-sadist and Jake is according to himself a masochist and that's why they get along like milk and water.

Seriously: Jake said to one interviewer that David F really wanted him bad and it was kind of weird, in Jake's view, and he'd discuss that one day.

Jake seemed kinda freaked out by the whole Zodiac experience. Hardly a peep out of him during the directors commentary.

Of course they did. I think Fincher's ego was hurt but that didn't last long.

Remember Torso and Jake's tattoo?

Matt Damon to topline Fincher's 'Torso' movie?

An article from Cleveland's Plains Dealer discussing how a lack of tax breaks for the movie version of Brian Michael Bendis and Marc Andreyko's fact-based thriller 'Torso' contains a surprising nugget of information: Matt Damon is set to play Elliot Ness in the movie.

'Torso' tells of a chapter from Ness' later career, as safety inspector for the city of Cleveland, when a mysterious serial killer begins leaving dismembered corpses around the town.

Gyllenbobbleheads resent Heath because he is a threat to their fantasy that Jake is more than a handsome guy and talented actor. They can't stand it that Heath is perceived in the film industry, especially among directors, as being not just "talented," but transcendent at times.

If they had more confidence in Jake, they could be more gracious about Heath.

^^ I am not a gbabble or what ever it is you want to call it, but are'nt you the pot calling the kettle black?? I happen to think that both Jake and Heath are very talented. I do agree that what attracted me to BBM at first was Heath since I was not that aware of Jake. It then switched to Jake's performance and how convincing he was. It blew me away and apparently many here also since most are hear following Jake's life. We're not on Heath Central are we?? How is it that some seem to really get off on the ridicule of Jake and (in the same breath) bitch when someone talks about Heath's faults as if that discussion is off limits?? Dag nabit

Sorry but I find the idea of Jake getting a tattoo, even a fake one, hilarious. It just doesn't go with his personality.

If you were a fan of Heath, you'd know HL Central doesn't exist anymore.
When the first pictures of Jake pop up and when he starts promoting his new film, he'll be the center and focus again. I think this Heath talk is mainly because of his recent movie. It'll die down.

Anonymous said...

It is also the lack of fansites for Heath that forces fans of both to talk about him on here. The best would be if a place only for Heath's fans would be created.
Posters come here because of Jake and are not exactly interested in hearing about Heath.

Heath will be eternally young and has made all the mistakes he will ever make. Jake will age and continue to do things that disappoint. Who is it easier to criticize?

Anonymous said...

"David F is a compulsive-obsessive-sadist"

Exactly. And Zodiac was a study in post-production mismanagement. It was too long, too expensive and released at absolutely the worst time of the year : March. Why do you put a film as complex as The Parallax View, All The President's Men or Three Days of the Condor again spring-break dreck like Norbit and 300? Fincher was an idiot for taking so long and spending so much just to release the film at the wrong time. There was so much Zodiac-related tension among the actors, director and producers, even now, that it's almost painful to watch them talk about it.

And the tragic thing is that the film really brilliant, but the post-production was so spectacularly incompetent that no one saw the film.

Anne Hathaway: What George Clooney taught me

She may be plagued with self-doubt, but Hollywood star Anne has still managed to land a slew of plum roles – and takes advice only from the best

If Anne Hathaway is suffering from toothache – or perhaps, for that matter, heartache – on the day we meet, she is hiding it well. A consummate actress, she is bright-eyed and talkative, and shows none of the tension you might expect from someone who has just had root canal treatment with a French dentist (we are in Paris) and is also coping with the reported messy ending of a four-year relationship with her Italian-American boyfriend Raffaello Follieri.

What makes her performance all the more impressive is that in addition she is expected this evening to host a dinner at the Grand Palais to launch Lancôme’s new perfume, Magnifique, in a language – she says with a bright smile – in which she is anything but fluent.

‘But the thing is, I can say “merci” and “de rien” with a very convincing accent and then everybody starts motoring off and I’m like, “Je ne comprends pas.” I studied French for five years but none of it stuck. Although, funnily enough, it made it easy for me to learn Italian when I…’ she says, stopping short of finishing a sentence that was clearly going to reference Raffaello – who is being held at the New York Metropolitan Correction Center on charges of fraud, conspiracy and money laundering in deals that unwittingly involved Bill Clinton, Republican presidential candidate John McCain and the Catholic Church.

Alarmed by her mistake – it’s rumoured that her professional need to distance herself from Follieri was so pressing that she may even have cooperated with the FBI prior to his arrest – she makes an understandable attempt to divert the subject away from her ex-boyfriend.

‘Oh, I have such a glamorous story about speaking Italian. George Clooney taught me a very important phrase and it’s true,’ she says rattling off, in what seems to be perfect Italian, a sentence she translates as, ‘I speak Italian but with many mistakes.’ This statement, delivered just a little too fast and followed by a peal of nervous laughter, reveals more about Annie (as her entourage refer to her) than she’d probably intended. Beneath the glossy exterior and the slightly brittle smile, the beautiful American actress is, it would seem, a bit insecure.

‘I’m full of neuroses,’ admits the self-confessed ‘people pleaser’ who is full of praise for Keira Knightley, Anna Maxwell Martin and her The Devil Wears Prada co-star Emily Blunt, but seems a little baffled by her own success. ‘Those women are in a different league from me in terms of talent. I think Emily Blunt will have no problem having a career to equal that of Cate Blanchett, but I’m not sure I’m talented enough for that, so I’d like to go as far as my talent will take me for as long as I can…’ she says.

Industry insiders have a very different view of how far Anne’s talent could take her. At just 25 she has a body of work, much of it highly acclaimed, that puts her way in front of her acting contemporaries.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, to a lawyer father and an actress mother, she grew up as the middle child between two brothers (Michael the elder and Thomas the younger). In the past she has hinted that her relationship with her parents was strained claiming they ‘made mistakes’, but today she says ‘we have a fabulous relationship’.

2:26 PM - I just remembered they'll attend the premieres together. :)

Encouraged by her mother to pursue acting (she’s also an accomplished soprano), she gained her first break in the US TV series Get Real, which led to starring roles in the hit films The Princess Diaries, The Princess Diaries 2 and Ella Enchanted.

Anne avoided being typecast as a teen queen by taking a role in Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain, which not only allowed her to ‘grow up’ (there were nude scenes) but also led to a central role in The Devil Wears Prada. With her 2007 portrayal of Jane Austen in Becoming Jane (with a very convincing English accent) she has further proved her versatility.

In addition to the recent Get Smart – in which she co-stars with Steve Carell – Anne will shortly be seen in Jonathan Demme’s drama Rachel Getting Married, Rodrigo García’s thriller Passengers, and in Bride Wars alongside Kate Hudson. Becoming an ‘ambassador’ for Lancôme has further raised her profile, putting her alongside fellow Lancôme ‘faces’ such as Kate Winslet and Juliette Binoche.

Does she, I ask, have a career game plan? ‘A game plan – keep fooling them, keep hoping no one wakes up,’ she says with another peal of nervous laughter. Anne’s insistence on putting herself down is, I suggest, very English (something she takes as a compliment even if she does turn it back into a tribute to another actress). ‘Americans don’t get dry, self-deprecating wit – if you make a remark they will say, “Oh no, you are not fat or stupid or whatever.” But it’s my favourite kind of humour. Emily Blunt is a master of dry wit and she is so young – well, younger than me by four months, and she never lets me forget it…’

In Bride Wars (out next year) she and Kate Hudson (‘she is so much fun, she brings so much to the party whereas I’m more geeky’) are pitted against each other as best friends with weddings on the same day. It is, she confirms, a dark look at ‘bridezillas’. Does a big wedding feature in her private dreams? ‘Oh no, I’m very far from that. But if I were to have a child right now, I wouldn’t be upset by it because I think I am in a place where I could continue to work and learn and take care of another human being. But, like marriage, it’s not a choice I would make for myself at this moment…’

Today, wearing a black dress she ‘thinks’ is by Fendi (‘the people here gave it to me’), Anne looks waif-like and younger than 25. While she loves dressing up, she is happier dressing down and has never worried about extreme diets or exercise. Except, that is, when filming The Devil Wears Prada when the roles she and Emily played required them to lose weight (‘We would clutch each other and cry with hunger’).

Naturally slim but not skinny, she sees a preoccupation with body-image as immature. ‘When I was younger,
I thought I’d be happier skinnier. But then you turn 14 and you think, well, maybe not.’ What does she think of the ‘size zero’ issue and the influence very thin celebrities have on young girls? ‘Do I think it’s dangerous? Yes, but I think the real danger in life is if you allow yourself to be swayed by the mob. We all have the power to assert our individuality and say, “If that works for you, great, but it doesn’t work for me.” I’ve always been an independent person – which sometimes might have made me look a bit arrogant – but I’m trying to live my life as my own,’ she says.

Anne, who has admitted to suffering from depression and anxiety as a teenager, believes that we all have a responsibility for our own happiness and that the best role models for the young are those who lead, rather than follow, the mob. ‘You know who I think is the perfect role model for girls right now? Agyness Deyn. I love her and I hear she is just wonderful. She is happy and healthy and dancing to her own music, and that’s the sort of person girls need to look up to. Other than their mothers and families.’

Family is very important to Anne. Her brother Michael, with whom she has been riding round Paris on the city’s free ‘Vélib’ bicycles, and her mother Kate, who will be her ‘date’ for tonight’s dinner, are supporting her on this trip. ‘Daddy had to stay home and work and Thomas is studying – he has just been accepted at Oxford, which is so brilliant,’ she says.

Outside family and work, Anne has little time for any significant hobbies (although she does like to hike). She has a small group of female friends (‘my closest friends are all gay men’) and her tendency to self-effacement is not limited to her career – she offers a long list of things she enjoys but is plain ‘terrible’ at doing. ‘I’m a horrible cook – if I ever invite you over you are having catering. I write terrible poetry but it feels nice to do it. And I’m a terrible, terrible painter, too.’

It's almost impossible to get Anne to say anything positive about herself but she does admit that she is ‘more proud’ of her work on the indie film Rachel Getting Married than anything she has ‘ever done’. ‘I do think my film career is way more successful than I deserve. So to have the experience I had on that film was brilliant and to have it turn out so well – I feel I can truly say, “That’s what a good film is.”’ As her own harshest critic it would be cruel to ask her about career decisions that didn’t turn out so well (she pulled out of Knocked Up and Sweeney Todd – both critical successes – at the last moment).

But she has a philosophical approach to life that enables her, she says, to move forward whatever the setback – mixed reviews for Get Smart, a broken tooth the day before Lancôme’s beauty launch or splitting from a lover described, by a federal prosecutor, as a ‘con man’. ‘The most important thing in life is to grow from every experience. So that’s what I’m trying to do,’ she says with a brave smile as we part.

First Look: Ang Lee's 'Taking Woodstock'

Director Ang Lee leads his traditional on-set Big Luck ceremony to commemorate the start of production on Taking Woodstock, an adaptation of the memoir of Elliot Tiber, a key player behind the historic 1969 music fest that took place on his neighbor's farm. Filming kicked off in upstate N.Y. on Aug. 18.

Also pictured are screenwriter/producer James Schamus (in white hat), and actors Demetri Martin (in striped shirt), Emile Hirsch (V-neck T-shirt), and Jonathan Groff (with bag slung over his shoulder and across his chest). The movie also stars Imelda Staunton, Henry Goodman, Liev Schreiber, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Mamie Gummer, Dan Fogler, Richard Thomas, Skylar Astin, Paul Dano, Zoe Kazan, and Eugene Levy.

Michelle William's Wendy and Lucy among Oscar baity films.

700 TIFF-goers packed in to see Kelly Reichardt's heartbreaking Wendy and Lucy. Reichardt made the sublime Old Joy, and this is another shambling Pacific Northwest tale, but a sadder one: Michelle Williams as a neo-hobo, sleeping in her car, shoplifting for food, with only her golden brown mutt, Lucy, for company. Williams is amazing, totally convincing, as Wendy's world falls apart: her car breaks down and she loses her dog, stuck in a small, busted-down Oregon town. Jeez, I need a good comedy.

Posters come here because of Jake and are not exactly interested in hearing about Heath.

Not this bs again. Who are you people? Aren’t there enough Jake-wanking sites for you? Must you infect this lone outpost of sanity, too?

I thought this site was about Waiting for Toothy. And all the social, pop cultural (and Hollywood) implications of that wait. I thought it was about identifying (in a fun way) what is true and real, including people who are and performances that are, and calling out bullshit for what it is.

I come here because it's a quirky blog where all that's celebrity-worthless, deceptive, or insincere is targeted for ridicule.

Now, if posters prefer it to be a drooling Jake fansite (aren't there friggin enough of those lame things?), then I think the moderator had better make that clear.

I dislike some loser Jake apologists trying to censor what is said about Heath (or anyone else – someone also seems to hate the funny posts by George C). If a post is unacceptable, the mod will delete it. Otherwise, either scroll by, post an intelligent riposte, or go masturbate over Jake on your own time.

Not saying Jake can't get love here from time to time. For you young tween fans, Jake is CUTE CUTE CUTE, ‘kay? But true praise has to be earned. If someone hates to see Heath admired, why not come back with examples of your own showing how good Jake is? No need to twist things around in feeble desperation. Looking at you, Sept 08 11:53 PM.

Jake gets petted and applauded ad naseum in many, many places. If he (and other Hollywood fakers) can’t get called out for their bullshit on WFT2, then I give up.

Anonymous said...

Maybe you should give up anon 11:08! Some of your points are on target, but why would some posters be bothered with a celebrity that just don't seem to be worthy of praise? I don't get it. Seems such a waste of time unless negative tounge lashings are the norm. Why don't they or (you) do something different. Is there a chance of following another celeb. you like, admire and worthy of praise. I get your point and I'm not saying you are a Jake hater especially in all of his presumed bearding and not coming out (TT).
The main issue is Praising HEATH to make Jake look inferior in many ways. Some posters here live for this for whatever reason they hide behind.
Heath had faults and issues. They were very visible. If some here could not see them, they were and maybe still are blind! Period!! Jake has faults and is deffinately not perfect. And will contiune to displease some with his choices and attitude. It's true that HW and other HW celebrities are talked about here, but at least 85 to 90 percent of the discussion is about Jake and his life. That's changing though.

Who said Heath was perfect? I didn't see anyone say that.

I don't think they can be real fans of Heath if they do that.

I guess many here don't want this to turn into a Heath fanblog and now some posters are finally speaking out.

It's very simple.
Should we praise Jake for EVERYTHING he does or just for things we believe he did right?

Anon 11:08 said that "true praise has to be earned" and I couldn't agree more. You can be a fan without being a fangirl.

Tell me about the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
I've been out in Morocco for two and a half months, so everyone keeps asking me if I'm hot in my suit, but it's 49 degrees [Celsius] in Morocco on a cool day, so it's great. It's easy living.

What's your role?
I'm a prince of Persia. Not the prince of Persia; my brother's the prince of Persia, Dastan, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, who's great. He's a lovely kid. I play the head of the Persian army, so I'm sort of the evil one of the brothers. My oldest brother... is gonna be the future king of Persia, so I'm the head of the army and Dastan's the street rabble."

Maybe you should give up anon 11:08! ... why would some posters be bothered with a celebrity that just don't seem to be worthy of praise

Gazillions of people care about trainwrecks like Britney, even though she hardly deserves much praise.

Not nearly as many care about Jake, but to me he represents (represented?) something - hope, I guess. I appreciate his good work (when it happens) but dislike the bullshit, and the ambiguous posturing. That means I don't look at him as a fanclub fan. Same goes for Heath. I wouldn't praise his drug use, but his acting, yes, and since he didn't spew too much bullshit, not much to criticize there. I guess that makes it uneven.

Jake has done some iconic movies and given outstanding performances. In Brokeback Mountain, his best of all, he lays his heart out for all to see in a way that no male actor playing a romantic lead ever has. With the smallest look he communicates jaw-aching emotional truth. That curled-lip glance he gives Ennis just before he says "that's more words than you've spoke in the past two weeks" expresses more than entire books and should go down as the lynchpin of one of the great exchanges on film. I could go on about all his fine moments, but then I'd just be another Jake fan, wouldn't I? I'm actually a Toothy fan.

More than enough people here make posts that basically say nothing at all except "Jake is dreamy." If 90% of this blog has to be about praising Jake, it's not what I thought it was, and, sorry to say, it promises to be nothing more than boring.

I get it, though, that you and others simply want to talk about Jake in a positive way. Still don't understand why you are not on Wet Dark Wild or IHJ, though.

In any case, like many others, I see that it's time to move on from here. Thanks for the good times and I wish you all well.

Apparently working out is not the only way this former A lister has for losing weight. During a Fashion Week event in the past two days, our actress, on her own for the first time in awhile decided to prove that she can snort more coke than even Elton John. Whatever was placed in front of her, she hoovered right up. She is not much for sharing though. When someone tried to bend over for a little bit, she told them to find their own.

Crist Not Campaigning On Gay Marriage

Charlie Crist's not looking to shore up anti-gay sentiment this election season. Florida's governor said yesterday that while he'll vote for Proposition 2, which would amend the state's constitution and ban gay marriage, he won't actively campaign on the issue. Instead, he's looking to help out Republican presidential hopeful John McCain.

"I'll support it, I'll vote for it, move on," the governor said of the Amendment 2 gay-marriage ban in an interview during a trip to tour flood-damaged areas in Central Florida. "It's not top-tier for me, put it that way."

When asked if he'll spend time plugging Amendment 2, Crist said, "I don't think so. I think I will campaign for candidates much more extensively — Sen. McCain." The governor also reiterated his position of precluding the Republican Party of Florida from spending money to support the gay-marriage ban.

And, yes, Crist's still engaged, despite Chuck Todd's prediction that the Governor would break up with Carole Rome if McCain didn't pick him as his running mate.

Regarding criticizing Heath. I had so many conversations with other people about him and most people feel sorry for him and think he commited suicide (which is an unpopular opinion within Heath's online fandom).
I'm not saying he didn't do illegal drugs, he probably did like most of Hollywood, but that's not what killed him.
You don't take 6 different types of pills and expect nothing will happen. How naive must he have been to think that?
A day or two before he died, he was seen in a bar in N.Y. wearing a skimask, sitting there all alone.
I think this guy had severe psychological problems. He ended his life with so much ahead of him. I don't see the point of criticizing him anymore. He already punished himself.

I had to get this off my chest. Now I'll move on.

Anonymous said...

I don't think he committed suicide because I don't think he wanted to do that to his family--particularly Matilda. He LOVED that little girl. I do think he was depressed, tired, insomniac, jet-lagged and had built up a large tolerance to drugs (prescription or otherwise) due to years of abuse. I don't think those six pills in his system were a rarity but because he was physically sick at the time (flu or pneumonia), that compromised his immunity and his body could no longer take it and he died.

It was definitely not suicide but he didn't take care of himself and apparently, the people around him didn't take care of him either.

Jarhead in Blue Ray

JARHEAD
"A masterwork. Jarhead is more than a movie - it's an experience." -Gene Shalit, The Today Show

Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx and Jake Gyllenhaal star in this critically acclaimed, brilliantly unconventional war story from Oscar®-winning director Sam Mendes.

JARHEAD (the self-imposed moniker of the Marines) follows "Swoff" (Gyllenhaal), a third-generation enlistee, from a sobering stint in boot camp to active duty, sporting a sniper's rifle and a hundred-pound ruck on his back through Middle East deserts with no cover from intolerable heat or from Iraqi soldiers, always potentially just over the next horizon. Swoff and his fellow Marines sustain themselves with sardonic humanity and wicked comedy on blazing desert fields in a country they don't understand against an enemy they can't see for a cause they don't fully fathom... Foxx portrays Sergeant Sykes, a Marine lifer who heads up Swofford's scout/sniper platoon, while Sarsgaard is Swoff's friend and mentor, Troy, a die-hard member of STA-their elite Marine Unit.

I think is great that you can express yourself and move on,really. But first let me tell you what i think:
I believe after Heath's horrible death the media and the fans created a character about him, making him look like a "tortured" artist who suffered because he was to much sensitive for this world.
I think he liked drugs, plain and simple (cocaine and pills) but i don't think it was really an issue for him considering he never had problems with the achievements of his work and he was never caught DUI or something like that.People who knew him said great things about him after and BEFORE his passing. Anyway,i think he was upset because of the split with MW, not because he wanted to come back with her but because a separation is always difficult no matter if there is still love or not, but i don't believe for a moment the stories about him sitting alone in a bar drinking and moaning as if he was Bukowski or some shit like that.He had worries like everybody else and i bet he was mature and strong enough to face his problems, i'm tired of people talking about him like if he was a sad and vulnerable little lost boy because he certainly wasn't, besides If he wanted to kill himself off he woulda take the entire bottle of pills at the same time and at least he woulda let a letter for his family and a testament in favor to his daughter.
He made a fatal mistake, that's all. It's a shame because a lot of people really liked him and he seemed to be a very nice person so i don't think is necesary to make a mith out of him.
Just my opinion.....

Anonymous said...

I wasn't that surprised when he passed. In most of the pictures before he died, he looked like shit, he never looked like that before.

What I know about men

John Barrowman, 41, actor, in civil partnership

When I was growing up, homosexuality was like a curse. This was midwest America in the Eighties, so I couldn't exactly make it a known thing. But I never doubted my sexuality. Even as a child, I knew I was different. I would look at a dirty magazine and I would feel drawn to the guy rather than the girl. His bits were more interesting than hers. It would make me feel warm and tingly. After gym class, I'd secretly peek at the other boys in the shower when I knew that I shouldn't. I was nine or 10 and I didn't know what being gay meant.

Later, I made sure I was good at sports and I worked out so they couldn't call me a wimp. I had to copy the others to fit in and avoid being bullied; I'd date girls, dance with them, go for dinner but I used to panic when I was on her doorstop and I'd have to kiss her and feel her up.

I moved to the UK in 1990. Scott, my civil partner, is British. I think I prefer British men to American men. British men have changed over the past few years. They are beginning to take care of themselves and hell, nothing beats a foreskin. A lot of Americans are snipped at birth, Jewish or not.

I go through phases and right now, I'm going through a builders' phase. I don't know why, but they are so hot. I think it's OK to be in a relationship and still look. It doesn't mean you are going to do anything. Anyway, personality is a big thing for me. Of course I look at their physique, body and face but a hot body is nothing if their personality's bad. The first time I saw Scott I knew he was the one. We saw each other casually for about year but before it got serious, I had my fair share of wham-bam. One can never have enough wham-bam. When a guy strays and ends up with someone else, it's not a big deal. Sex for men is external. I think it's hard for women to realise this.

I would love to lecture to women on men. I'd tell them everything about men: gay, straight, bi, how we're all the same, how we're all bastards. Men know what men want. In and out of bed. Some women are afraid to go to regions that are especially sensitive to men because they think it's dirty. I'd love to be able to tell women this. I think it would open up their sex lives. Experimentation is incredibly healthy. Men love it when their partner dresses up. My mother even advocates it. Unless you are going to get physically hurt, you should give it a go. Before you start, you need a panic word in case you feel uncomfortable. Ours changes depending on the situation but you can't shout 'stop' because it might fit into the role-play situation a little too well.

I get loads of letters from soldiers in Iraq. Mostly they say thanks for making their sexuality acceptable but a lot tell me when they come home they are going to come out. I'm proud to represent my community and help these guys if I can.

Some celebrities do cash in on being gay. I have and I haven't. Part of my success is down to my honesty in that department but I also like cars, mechanical things, and sports. I exist on that end of the gay community. Gay men aren't all the same. I can be camp but that's just me acting.

The biggest homophobes in Hollywood are the gay guys themselves. I reckon loads of Hollywood actors are gay, we don't know which ones. I guess the industry should be easier for gay men to succeed in, but I honestly don't know. When a straight gay man plays a gay man they get an Oscar. I just play me. If I am looked upon as a role model for young, gay men and women then so be it. I will never be negative about my sexuality.

John's album, Music Music Music, is released on 24 November; visit www.johnbarrowman.com

Kirsten Dunst Laughs Off Justin Long Rumors

Kirsten Dunst says rumors she is romancing Justin Long "are the funniest thing on planet Earth." "I don't know him from Adam," she says in the October issue of Harper's Bazaar, per USA Today.

The two have been photographed repeatedly over the summer. On August 29, Us Weekly reports, he invited her to his $2 million L.A. home. After a sleepover, they hit the Joe Purdy show at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach, Calif., and lunched a day later at the Chateau Marmont, where Long, 30, got them a room. Still, Dunst, 26, insists, "I met him once and he and his friend were kind enough to walk me home. I've never seen him since."

She adds that she is still looking for The One. "I can't wait to have kids one day," she says. "I want to have kids and a farm with lots of animals on a lake."

The actress also says she is doing "great" after seeking treatment for depression at Utah’s Cirque Lodge earlier this year. Though she wouldn't get into too much detail (it'll be "blogged about for the rest of my life," she insists), she offers insight into how she ended up there.

"When you spend your entire life as a child actress, being told where to go and where to stand, you’re performing constantly for people," she says. "It definitely breeds the kind of person who's dependent on other people's approval. "If I'd trusted myself and listened to myself all the times that I ignored myself, I would have been fine," Dunst says. "But everyone has to learn their lesson, and now I've got it."

I actually like her, but if she's trying to claim that she's never been into drugs/drink and fooling around with random men while high then she's lying. She's been spotted swapping spit with Justin Long. Just as she's been spotted many times drunk out of her mind.

Fair enough. She doesn't want people to know the truth as it won't help her employment prospects and maybe she's sober now. She's still a liar though.

I'm Sure Disney Is Already Working On It

In an interview with the Associated Press, Matt Damon doesn't hold back when talking about Sarah Palin. Matt called the Palin pick a "disaster," and that there's a good chance she will become President which is a "scary thing." Matt also doesn't understand why more people aren't talking about it. Um...does he ever go on the internet?

Matt went on to say that the whole thing is a really bad Disney movie. He said, "The hockey mom, you know, 'Oh, I'm just a hockey mom'... and she's facing down Vladimir Putin... It's totally absurd... It's a really terrifying possibility."

Come on, Matt! What do you take Disney for? It's probably already in development under the working title "President Mommy." Megan Mullally already passed on it, so they are talking to Geena Davis. I can already see the poster. Geena Davis is holding a soccer ball in front of the White House while her kids are pulling at her skirt and her husband (played by Rick Moranis) is rolls his eyes at her. Vladimir Putin can play himself. It'll be a hit!

However! seems to me the continued conversations about the circumstnaces of his death after seven months is unseemly, maudlin and depressing. And how fortunate we are that he has left so much of himself behind.

Sorry - the waaah waaah waaah gets on my nerves.

But go ahead, as you say, nobody's stopping you. Just bitching about it.

The end.

I see. Is it fair to ask others to stop posting and discussing subjects just because it gets on our nerves?

'Quantum of Solace'

New Bond with Gemma Arterton.

For those who don't know Gemma Arterton is Jake's co-star in PoP.

'Quantum of Solace' - Gemma is cute, but she looks very ordinary for a Bond girl.

I think she's beautiful.

I thought she's beautiful based on the photos, but wasn't impressed by the trailer.

To paraphrase Joe Walsh:

Seems to me, if you don't want to talk about it,
Seems to me, just turn your pretty head and walk away.
