The Dark Knight
As was, perhaps, always inevitable, The Dark Knight is Ledger’s movie. It is a towering performance. From his menacing, pencil-packing greeting to Gotham’s Mob fraternity, to the threat and fire he conjures in exchanges with Maggie Gyllenhaal’s sexy, sophisticated brief and “The Bat-maaan”, to the Sophie’s choice surprises of the third act, he is pure, powerful, immense.
A force of fucking nature.

"My impression is that Jake has difficulty concentrating on simple questions. Like he was dumb or something. I wish he would go back to university, his mind is turning within a void."
Jake was probably at a loss on how to answer a question that may not have been covered in his prepping session with Reese and their PR team before the lunch with Ted & Lisa. He probably didn't want to give the wrong answer, then he'd be in trouble with Reese and the PR commandos.
1:19, I hope he's not trying to do that, though I'm still not 100% sure if he wants to distance himself from the drug rumors surrounding Heath. Maybe he doesn't want people to think they were more than friends either? Those are the worse case scenarios. But I'm willing to give Jake the benefit of a doubt. Maybe his lack of time is do to being too busy with his Reese business and nothing with the aformentioned reasons?
In Interview Mag interview Jake says he's matured, unlike "some people".
It is an old cultural bugaboo that homosexuality is a sign of immaturity.
I wonder if the report of Jake posting a picture of Heath on his prison wall as a "joke" on the set of Brothers is true or false.
Seems to me Jake's never stopped playing the Brokeback card.
The kids, especially the girl, look happier when they are with Ryan than when they are with Reese.

Many found that kinda moving, I personally didn't. He just wanted some laughs it seems to me.

It is just a general impression. Try reading it yourself.
Don't bother with parts 1 and 2, as they are only about airplane delays and lost luggages.
Start directly with part 3.
Jake's mind seems wasted. It's just an impression from reading the whole story.
I don't believe, like 1:26 does, that he's following always a script in what he says.
I've got this feeling that he's having difficulty concentrating on what to say. And he wasn't like that... he used to like communicating ideas through words.
I repeat: I felt a void there.
1:19, I hope he's not trying to do that, though I'm still not 100% sure if he wants to distance himself from the drug rumors surrounding Heath. Maybe he doesn't want people to think they were more than friends either?
These reasons could very well be behind his decision to distance himself from Heath.
I don't think Michelle alone decided Jake should be the Godfather. Heath was fond of Jake and during the promo time they got close, that's the time when little M. was born.
If the story about him asking Trevor is true (which I doubt) than it's understandable, he knew Trevor since they were kids, it doesn't mean that he stopped liking Jake, for God's sake.
Yeah, right. Jake is looking at a duck, not the cute guy. Look at the line of sight, look at his head. It is tilted upward, at the guy. Ask yourself why the photographer left the bystander in the shot in the first place. It's because the photographer was there and saw Jake's visceral reaction. Now that is the money shot.
"I don't think Michelle alone decided Jake should be the Godfather."
I agree. This theory that Heath made Jake M's godfather because Michelle wanted it is bullshit.
*Michelle alone
It wasn't a theory. Heath said that Michelle had the idea. He said that while doing press for Brokeback Mountain. (Look it up). But clearly, he approved the idea otherwise Jake wouldn't have been named godfather of Matilda.
And the reason why that came up during the press conference is that a reporter asked Michelle and Heath if they had made Ang Lee the godfather. They both said no--and said Jake.
1:36 pm. You're not the only one who thinks that.
He's a dummy. A great-looking dummy but a dummy nonetheless. Don't believe me? Read his interviews. The man makes no sense and is constantly contradicting himself.
Do you guys even like Jake Gyllenhaal?
Many of you sound like you hate the guy.
1:46 this is BS, Heath never said it was Michelle's idea. I'm a pretty much obsessed Jake and Heath fan and I know almost every interview both boys did and Heath never said that.
It wasn't a theory. Heath said that Michelle had the idea. He said that while doing press for Brokeback Mountain. (Look it up). But clearly, he approved the idea otherwise Jake wouldn't have been named godfather of Matilda.
T.H.E.O.R.Y.
Heath's friends should have tried to help him get rid of his problems instead of promising him to take care of his kid if he dies. That being said, I think this article is bullshit.
The Dark Knight has taken in over $155 million opening weekend, breaking the previous record set by Spiderman 3.
Heath made Jake the godfather immediately after he dissed Jake by saying that he thought Clooney should win the ocscar for best supporting actor. The announcement of Jake being the godfather came while the controversy was still brewing. It was a classic knee-jerk PR attempt to move the attention off one thing and on to another. Unlike Jake, Heath spoke off the cuff and often got himself in trouble becuase of it. Jake gives the impression of having rehearsed the answers to his questions over and over again probably with the help of Stephen Gyllenhaal. Now that Stephen is out of the picture, Jake is fumbling over his words.

All the good critics, the b.o. success would all be great if Heath was still alive, now it's just meh. The guy doesn't exist anymore.
Jake gives the impression of having rehearsed the answers to his questions over and over again probably with the help of Stephen Gyllenhaal. Now that Stephen is out of the picture, Jake is fumbling over his words.
This is too silly for words, LOL.
The guy doesn't exist anymore." No, but his work lives on as does his family, friends and daughter.
Heath made Jake the godfather immediately after he dissed Jake by saying that he thought Clooney should win the ocscar for best supporting actor.
STFU! Why are you trying to make Heath loook bad? Listen to the press confo, Heath was asked if George deserves an Oscar and he said yes (what else should he have said? Heath wasn't very diplomatic though). I'm pretty sure he didn't think about whom George's up to. Heath didn't really care about awards anyway and was glad all was over. He was nervous during this conference and didn't mean it like that, I'm sure. Watch it and judge for yourself. It's the press confo for Candy in Berlin.
This is too silly for words, LOL
Is it? I have no doubt that he's rehearsed just about every answer he's ever given in an interview.
I'm not trying to make Heath look bad. I think Heath spoke from the heart and spoke the truth. I think he really felt that Clooney deserved the oscar. I bet he was shocked when it became a big controversy.
I have no doubt that he's rehearsed just about every answer he's ever given in an interview.
Bullshit.

Bullshit.
You can call it bullshit all you like. I have no doubt that it's true. Jake has carefully crafted his image and continues to do so. What do you think this fauxmance is all about?
Heath made Jake the godfather immediately after he dissed Jake by saying that he thought Clooney should win the ocscar for best supporting actor.
Again with this shit?
You can't prove that it's shit. It makes perfect sense. That's how HW works, like it or not.
Jake has difficulty concentrating on simple questions.
He's not an intellectual, or very articulate. When he's not fully rehearsed for interviews, he loses the thread and has difficulty making a coherent point.
Oh well. He's cute!
Secondly, when they asked about Heath, there was a lot of emotion in their story, but almost all of it seemed to come from T and L, not from Jake.
Exactly.
Ted and Lisa story:
"Jake is very animated when he talks, Lisa likes to use the word bubbly when she describes him, and he uses lots of hand motions and facial expressions and his eyes say a lot also. ... He has a very soft voice, and it drops a pitch when he talks about something serious, and even sort of has an echo. But when excited, he talks quick and has a melodic sound to his voice. ... we can say the old Jake that many people feel is now gone, is still alive and kicking, as we hope many of you picked up from our story."
2:20 give it up already.
If T and L are like some of Jake's other fans then they refuse to see the forest for the trees. They heard what they wanted to hear and Jake said what he thought they wanted to hear. Everyone came out happy.
You can't prove that it's shit. It makes perfect sense. That's how HW works, like it or not.
Well you can't prove that it isn't shit. It makes sense to you but you forget one thing, Heath WASN'T HW, he was the exact opposite.
"Lisa and Ted's Excellent Adventure!"
If I wasn't a fan of Jake and Heath and my only impressions of them would be from this board, I'd think both are insensitve assholes judging from what some here write about them.
Heath WASN'T HW, he was the exact opposite
That's why I think he spoke the truth about Clooney and the Oscar. When he realized that he had offended Jake he used the knee-jerk reaction of making Jake the godfather to right things. It probably was Michelle's idea.
Walk down memory lane J & H
2:29 whatever.
T and L are hardly reliable narrators, being hor "fans" and slash writers - and surely they had their "adventure" vetted by Jake's "people" - no way they would not have done so -
I've no clue if these guys were close or not but I see some posters here are very set on proving they probably never even liked each other in the first place. Why is that so important to you?
Heath was genuinely happy for Jake when Jake won his BAFTA. Many thought they were about to kiss.
ps. typo I mean "hot" not "hor" -
When he realized that he had offended Jake...
What's wrong with Heath thinking George's performance was Oscar-worthy? Why would Jake be offended?
J & H
Re: 11:48, So Jake is trapped. In a perfect world, no one would care if he's gay, bi, etc. Hollywood has a trail of closeted gay actors. Is the purpose of this forum for the fans to vent? Does anyone believe that Jake will come out of the closet?
Watch the press conference and see for yourself. It's at the conference from the 2005 Berlin film festival for Candy. Stop demonizing Heath, it wasn't like some here make it out to be.
Jumping at every opportunity to diss him.
J&H
After seeing pictures of them together, there's no denying that Jake and Heath had chemistry and were friends. Regardless of what happened, Heath & Michelle picked Jake as godfather. But, I've always wondered what was up with Heath at the Academy Awards Nominees Breakfast. Several press outlets had reported that even after several requests, Heath refused to take any pictures with Jake and when they took the group picture, Heath stood at the oppisite end.
Jake and Heath after winning the BAFTA:
J&H
"Several press outlets had reported that even after several requests, Heath refused to take any pictures with Jake and when they took the group picture, Heath stood at the oppisite end."
I don't remember it being several press outlets, just one report whether true or not.
The next day Heath and Jake were at a q & a session for Brokeback and seemed to get along more than well. They were whispering in each others ears and some poster who was there said that Jake kept staring at Heath.
Oscars:
J&H
Yeah, that's because picture taken was not allowed at he Q&A. Heath refused to pose with Jake at that lunchoen, Jake laughed it off reportedly and said I guess you will have to see us on screen in BBM. The Bafta's and the Directors guild awards and SAG were the last time thet were photographed together and that was for industry stuff. If you noticed there were no pics of them at the AA even in that group shot of Clooney, Jake, ete, they were not even in the same frame.
No after parites either.
But, I've always wondered what was up with Heath at the Academy Awards Nominees Breakfast. Several press outlets had reported that even after several requests, Heath refused to take any pictures with Jake and when they took the group picture, Heath stood at the oppisite end.
I think that was just media sensationalism, just like the SAGs tea-cup incident. Poor Heath, they never gave him a break. The Baftas took place a week after the luncheon and the Berlinade. Did Jake seem upset, the almost kiss rings a bell? Or did Heath not seem genuinely happy for him?
Anytime somebody here draws attention to Jake's void of feelings lately, we have QB and UV coming over and demonizing H.
Thanks, 2:59 and before, for these particular photo disproving their theories.
Recently I read an article that Heath, Michelle, Jake, Maggie and Peter were seen together chatting at one of the Oscar after parties 2005/2006.
I guess if you want to believe they weren't friends or hated each others guts, nothing can change your mind. But I don't get why this seems so important to some to prove how they disliked each other.
I think they were friends, judging by their interactions and I see real fondness in their eyes when they look at each other. Maybe that's just me.
Both are sexy here:
J&H
Heath made Jake the godfather immediately after he dissed Jake...
Heath may have liked Jake but he'd take the piss. He came from Oz, people! Aussies have a special disdain for divas and poseurs. Jake refused to jump off the cliff for the BBM swim scene - too scared - but spread a rumor he couldn't because he was "away from the set". He was also acting coy to the press about his sexuality. Heath hated phoney bs like that. Jake had to have special food on the set. Heath ate what the crew got. Then there was Jake's taste for commercial pop music, which Heath generally thought sucked ass.
Meanwhile, Jake's agent's complaints ( Jake knew about these) to the studio about why he wasn't getting as much push as Heath for an Oscar started to filter out, making Heath feel even more embarrassed about doing media promo. Some part of Heath never actually thought his own performance was that good.
To give Jake a break, he hated Heath's use of substances and his dress sense. What's amazing is that they liked each other despite all this.
I got all my info from imdb!
Here's Jake going commando ;).
Jake and Heath at DGA
jake and heath at bafta after party
3:14, that's cute, Heath often made weird grimaces in pics.
3:10 PM yes it's incredible the "wonderful" heath loved the "devil" jake despite all of that.
LOL
"Thanks, 2:59 and before, for these particular photo disproving their theories."
The Oscar pic is really cute how they were looking at each other. :)
3:32 I think we have some Jake and some Heath haters here, but I think most here are fans though. ;)
"If T and L are like some of Jake's other fans then they refuse to see the forest for the trees. "
fortunately you see the forest for the trees and ....yet you still love him , otherwise you wouldn't be here , would you?
"I think we have some Jake and some Heath haters here, but I think most here are fans though."
I don'tknow exactly what is the point of this site but one thing is sure
i have never seen so much hate in so much love.... or the contrary maybe.
I think the vast majority here is a Jake fan, otherwise we wouldn't be here. Some just like to stirr controversy.
3:40 PM #1, at least it's never boring here, lol. ;)
I think the old "using Heath to get back at Jake", for either bearding or being with Reese, is in full force again. Those are not Heath fans, trust.
"Dogs love their friends and bite their enemies, quite unlike people, who are incapable of pure love and always have to mix love and hate."

BS, trust.
I beg to differ.
Looking at these pictures I'd even go as far and say Jake had a crush on Heath.
I don't know exactly what is the point of this site ...
No point. This is a fanblog, a place to gossip, share info, discuss and bitch.
Most actors aren't known for their intellect. Why should Jake be any different. This is pretend, he's not curing cancer. Actors should just memorize their lines and look pretty.
3:58 PM ;)
I don't see anything wrong with Jake's intellect or education, and I've heard enough to know he's not dumb.
I think Heath was a nice guy, but he was also a bit weird. He made weird faces etc.
Heath
3:58 PM ;)
I'm glad I'm not the only one. :)
Actors should just memorize their lines and look pretty."
Yes, that's perfectly fine if you're a bad actor. But you need a little more than that if you want to be good.
3:10, Heath was definitely unpretentious, no question about it while Jake is the epitome of pretentiousness.
Did you hear this rumor that when Heath found out Jake was gay, he casually mentioned it to the wife of a well known director (Heath didn't think much of it because he didn't think anything was wrong with it). Anyway, the rumor goes that it got back to Jake who confronted Heath about it teary-eyed and asking him if he was mocking him--something like that.
Heath II

LOL. How ridiculous. Also I think Heath was the type of guy who kept secrets to himself. He was very private. There's no way people would have respected him like they did if he was like your post suggests him to be.
O I thought it obvious that Jake had a crush on Heath and Heath was flattered but uncomfortable with this. Heath fended off the BAFA award kiss. And I would imagine there was quite a bit of joking along the line of that reported in the T and L adventure (chewing on meat) to fend off anxiety -
O I thought it obvious that Jake had a crush on Heath and Heath was flattered but uncomfortable with this. Heath fended off the BAFA award kiss.
IDK if Heath was uncomfortable, but I think Heath liked Jake very much.
^ ^ ^
Oh I think so, too. That seems obvious.
In this DGA picture it looks like Jake was a little bit too excited.
Seriously, I can't belive I'm seeing a little bit of Jake Gyllenhaal's hard-on in Heath Ledger's presence;)
You're right I should go back to the slash.
5:10, Heath's presense definitely had an "impact" on Jake. ;)
Man, I wish Heath was still alive. I thought one day maybe we'd see Jake and Heath in another movie together. Sadly this will never happen. :(

For Old Cowhands, How Close Is Too Close?
Three people on a yacht; the Bahamas; sexy skullduggery. That's the extent of the pitch for Columbia Pictures' "Nautica," a thriller in development that might bring the stars of "Brokeback Mountain," Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal.
According to studio notes about the film, Mr. Ledger has signed on, and Mr. Gyllenhaal is in talks, though for what characters isn't clear. But having taken the risk of playing gay lovers, should they pair up again at all, whether in straight or gay roles? Sure, the team of Robert Redford and Paul Newman entered the pantheon by teaming up for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "The Sting." On the other hand, nobody's clamoring for yet another "48 Hrs." with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. Asked to assess the career prospects of a Ledger-Gyllenhaal duo, three Hollywood casting directors turned thumbs up, with reservations.
To Janet Hirschenson, who with her partner, Jane Jenkins, has cast "The Da Vinci Code" and "Poseidon," the question is: "Why not?" Ms. Hirschenson said both actors had futures as leading men, and working together again shouldn't harm either career. The potential pitfall lies in the script, she said. If the movie's no good, the partnership will end with "Nautica."
Avy Kaufman, the casting director of "Brokeback Mountain," echoes that thought. "As long as they stick with really great material and really great directors, you don't lose," he said. With "Nautica," the director is a question mark. Ted Demme ("Blow") was to direct and, after he died, in 2002, the job briefly belonged to Stephen Hopkins (HBO's "Life and Death of Peter Sellers"). But now the studio notes list no one in that important chair.
Laura Adler, who cast the forthcoming independent film "Hollenbeck" and NBC's "Four Kings," cites the stars' track record of on-screen chemistry as a plus in any future reteaming. "The only con," she said, "is that we've seen it already."
As for whether they're the next Redford-Newman or the next Murphy-Nolte, well, the casting directors agreed that moviegoers would have the final word.

Yes, it was in a Washington Post article.
Don't Ted Casablanca have the clout to force Jake "out of the closet." He knows where all the bodies are buried. This can help the gay cause. Ted would become a hero.
I dont think most are suggesting H and J hate each other, but that they were not "best friends" - as has been maintained by some.
Jake maybe included acc'g to T and L.
Did you hear this rumor that when Heath found out Jake was gay, he casually mentioned it to the wife of a well known director (Heath didn't think much of it because he didn't think anything was wrong with it). Why are you making stuff up? This was a Ted BI and the guy spreading rumors was McBongo. Stop spreading bullshit!

Ted is gay, he knows that outing someone is wrong.

Is this true? Was McBongo really spreading rumors that Jake is gay and that Heath knew about it?
Why would outing Jake be wrong? Didn't Ted C. do that with "Toothy"? Why not take the next step.
Is this true? Was McBongo really spreading rumors that Jake is gay and that Heath knew about it?
No, Ted said he was spreading rumors that TT is gay, but Heath has nothing to do with this BI.
That being said, I'd bet my money Heath knew Jake is gay, no straight guy looks at another one the way he looked at Heath in my opinion. If we see it you bet Heath saw it too.
The same reason he won't /can't out Travolta, Smith, Franco, Spacey, Hayden, Miller, etc. Lawsuits. He is hiding behind the TT BI because he can't be sued no matter if the pope has guessed who it is. I assume Jake's people ignored it in the beginning because they didn't want to give Ted any attention but around June of '05 when most of the blogs figured out who he was talking about, 4 months after it started, the genie was out of the bottle already.
He stooped the TT crap in Nov. 05 - and in March of '06 he said he was bored with him but his hits were down so he started again.
He is safe in commenting on Jake and Reese and saying it's fake and implying he is gay because other blogs do it so it's no big deal.
He's not as crude as Mk but it's the same, nobody really pays MK any mind and it's the same with Ted, both are harmless to the PR, Perez on the other hand is a another story.
7:05pm, ITA but, I do think that Ted does but a dent in the PR moves. I think that TT was also a big part of Reeke forming. Look at what Ted say about Ben & Jen Affleck. Ben wasn't seen with his wife for months and after Ted's comments, we suddenly saw them together every day for over 2 weeks. Does Perez (who's annoying) like or dislike Reeke? I get the impression that he stays in the middle.
Maybe the Three Amigos had to break up their little staged friendship becuase Jake was bringing gay rumors into the threesome. Lance Armastrong who I presumed liked Jake had to put an end to the friendship and had to make a statement concerning the rumors due to his involvement with Cancer research.
The friendship trio ended quite quickly after that statement and I think Matt could be the type of guy who would say whatever he felt afterward.
7:11: The only pictures I noticed after the Ben and Jennifer story (BTW, that story was floating around other bloge before he talked about it) is of Jennifer solo and pregnant or with Violet, Ben solo or with Violet. He did highlight it and it was picked up, forcing their people to issue a denial and in fact making Ted look like a "liar".
Jake/Reese was set IMO back in Nov. '06.
Anon 7:05, Who's MK?
"Jake/Reese was set IMO back in Nov. '06."
8:00PM, ITA. Those pap pics that showed up from the Rendition set were definitely staged. The gossip sites said that Jake and Reese were flirting with each other. Didn't look like flirting to me. Looked like some friends that were just goofing off. Then after that we got the "Cell phone ban" and the "Their going on dates" sightings. Meanwhile, during Rendition promos, they say that that was the only time Jake was on the LA set. He and Reese had no scenes together.

^^Wonderful! :)
Box Office results are interesting but what does it mean? Some of those other high-grossing movies were nothing to get excited about.
Believe me, TDK is something to get excited about. Heath is nothing short of amazing, and so is everyone else. I knew Heath would be great, but I wasn't expecting the movie to be just all around good. I'm glad everyone is turning out in droves to see it.
I can't stand McBongo!
Even under all of the Joker's evil makeup, you can see Heath's beauty and physical presence. What a gorgeous man. Just mesmerizing.
9:40 IA. He was a sexy guy. What a shame.
^ ITA
Funny about BBM too, I had heard how great Heath's Ennis was going to be, and his acting was phenomenal, but I found his Ennis totally sexy as well. I was blown away by Jake's acting in BBM, which I hadn't heard much about. I hadn't heard about Jake much at all, and his Jack really impressed me. He was beautiful too, but it was Heath I found sexy. Later, it became all about Jake and how gorgeous he is. Go figure. :)
I am so glad TDK has beaten that crappy spider-man 3 movie.
Anyway, TDK is totally awesome. Heath is mind blowing. Just watch all those little nusances in his performance... he was such an amazing talent.
Oh yeah and how hot did Heath look in that nurse uniform? Yowza. The whole movie was a big pile of hotness. Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Aaron Ekhart and Heath = hotness overload.
Heath was just so hot in every way - totally sexy. Harvey Dent you just wanted to put your arms around and make everything alright. Gary Oldman had soul. Christian Bale without a shirt. It was hotness overload. :)
If T and L are like some of Jake's other fans then they refuse to see the forest for the trees. They heard what they wanted to hear and Jake said what he thought they wanted to hear. Everyone came out happy.
ITA.
Heath's edgy voice will turn you on - it was so great hearing it. :)
Now that Stephen is out of the picture, Jake is fumbling over his words.
Why is his dad out of the picture? Am I missing something?
Mmm, thank you for reminding me of Christian Bale's shirtless scene.
This movie really was hotness overload. If I was Maggie I would have been beside myself! Lucky girl.
Maggie's Rachel was one lucky lady - having to choose between Harvey Dent and Bruce Wayne, and The Joker saying "Hello, Beautiful", but unfortunately at knifepoint. Great movie, and incredible in IMAX. ;)
Heath definitely was strangely sexy as the Joker, especially in that nurse uniform ;)
and The Joker saying "Hello, Beautiful"
That scene was brilliant wasn't it? So intense! I loved the way he was fixing up his hair as he said it. It was those little touches that made Heath such an amazing actor.
It's funny reading on message boards people finding Joker attractive. LMAO. I'm really looking forward to see this movie.
Heath's charisma and his very fit body plus his amazing acting just made his Joker competely unforgettable and extremely attractive.

"Allow me to waste some time here talking up the merits of Heath Ledger's astounding performance as The Joker. It truly is great. I first became a big Ledger fan after seeing him in Brokeback Mountain. It was the kind of quiet powerhouse acting that you can recognize as one of the masterful performances of our times even if you know nothing about the nuances of acting, as I don't. Already the blogosphere is saturated with praise and hype for Ledger's performance, and I'm happy to report it is all completely justified. Will his performance win him a posthumous Oscar? It damn well should. It might sound cliche, but Ledger genuinely does disappear from the screen in this film. He is The Joker. And guess what? Joker is the perfect counterpoint to the unsmiling Batman giving this franchise the breath of fresh air it desperately needed. Did I mention I loved this film?"

Why would outing Jake be wrong? Didn't Ted C. do that with "Toothy"? Why not take the next step.

Nelson blogs on why outing someone is wrong
Lots of feedback on our SUNRISE IN FOCUS segment today about how being openly gay can affect an actor's career. I don't believe in "outing" celebrities and I'm often asked if it is wrong to out someone if it is the truth. I've always thought "outing" is an unnecessary invasion of privacy.
"Who knows what personal reasons someone has for keeping their sexuality to themselves?"
While I think it's hypocritical for a person to LIE about their sexuality, I disagree with bloggers or tabloids who feel it's okay to blithely expose that info--and especially to revel in it. Fortunately, modern times are making "coming out" more acceptable, but it's still a tremendously significant, personal and often difficult process for a person...and it should be at a time of THEIR choosing, alone. There are enough interesting, offbeat, entertaining things to talk about in the world of showbiz without going into someone's bedroom.
Observers wonder why some gay or lesbian actors feel they need to hide their sexuality. For better or worse, image is everything in Hollywood. An openly gay person is much more likely to be relegated to playing less-glam, lower-paying supporting/character roles. Years ago, a star's homosexaulity was an "industry secret" to protect their Leading Man status (Rock Hudson, Tab Hunter, Sal Mineo, Robert Reed, Dick Sargent, Anthony Perkins, etc).
Fortunately, "outed" stars like Neil Patrick Harris and TR Knight have been able to rebound from the initial shockwave, but they might not have been able to had it happened at an earlier, less successful stage of their careers. Rupert Everett, Ellen DeGeneres and Ian McKellan can be openly, proudly gay...but you don't see them playing romantic roles, either.
Maybe that will change. I hope so.
But in the meantime, aren't there sufficient forces trying to screw up the lives of stars? Why add "outing" to the mix!? Politicians are elected, public servants, so I can understand that their lives are "open books," but why does being an actor mean you should be deprived of a private life?

I don't wish Jake to be outed.
Right know I would be "happy" with a beard who would work for Jake, someone who wouldn't need Jake to be a spineless wimp.
I'm always glad when people remember to list Anthony Perkins among the closeted stars.
He was married with children and by accounts was fond of his wife.
Leonard Bernstein, wikipedia:
"During his young adult years in New York City, Bernstein enjoyed an exuberant social life that included relationships with both men and women. After a long internal struggle and a turbulent on-and-off engagement, he married Chilean actress Felicia Montealegre Cohn on September 9, 1951, reportedly in order to increase his chances of obtaining the chief conducting position with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Dimitri Mitropoulos, conductor of the New York Philharmonic and Bernstein's mentor, advised him that marrying would help counter the gossip about him and appease the conservative BSO board.
Leonard and Felicia had three children, Jamie, Alexander, and Nina. During his married life, Bernstein tried to be as discreet as possible with his extramarital liaisons. But as he grew older, and as the Gay Liberation movement made great strides, Bernstein became more emboldened, eventually leaving Felicia to live with his lover Tom Cothran. Some time after, Bernstein learned that his wife was diagnosed with lung cancer. Bernstein moved back in with his wife and cared for her until she died.
It has been suggested that Bernstein was actually bisexual — an assertion supported by comments Bernstein himself made about not preferring any particular cuisine, musical genre, or form of sex — and it has been alleged that he was conflicted between his devotion to his family and his gay desires, but Arthur Laurents (Bernstein's collaborator in West Side Story), said that Bernstein was simply "a gay man who got married. He wasn't conflicted about it at all. He was just gay." Shelly Rhoades Perle, another friend of Bernstein’s, said that she thought "he required men sexually and women emotionally."

LANCE'S GUY HOT AND MARRIED
LANCE Bass has found love with a hot trainer, but there's a catch - the muscle-bound hunk is married. Bass stepped out with personal trainer and aspiring actor Sebastian Leal at a Malibu party recently, confirming rumors that they're an item. But Page Six has learned that Leal, who is Italian but was born and raised in Brazil, married US citizen Jessica Gannon nine years ago - and never got a divorce. The two separated three years ago, due to what Gannon told us through a rep were "irreconcilable differences." She added, "We continue to love each other. He was, is and always will be my best friend." One pal of Bass and Leal told us the news will be no shock to Bass because "Lance and Sebastian are very open with each other and have no secrets." A rep for Bass, who contacted Leal as well, declined to comment.

"British dialect coach Barbara Berkery admits that a lot of actors seeking her tutelage plead at the outset: "I don't want to sound like Dick Van Dyke."
Her glittering cast of former students include Gwyneth Paltrow, whom she trained for Emma and Shakespeare in Love, and Renee Zellweger for Bridget Jones's Diary and Miss Potter. Paltrow won an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love and Zellweger was nominated as Bridget Jones, but probably the greater tributes to their English accents were the nominations from an obviously impressed British Academy - they sounded the part.
Berkery has also coached Brad Pitt (Seven Years in Tibet), Jim Carrey (A Christmas Carol, due out next year) and Geoffrey Rush (Pirates of the Caribbean), and is currently working with Jake Gyllenhaal on his English accent for Prince of Persia.
In other words, or for words in another accent anyway, London-based Berkery has become the English dialect coach Hollywood turns to. "It's a nice position to be in," she says. Usually conducting her training for several weeks in the run-up to a production, and then throughout the shoot, Berkery has consistently achieved convincing results with hugely-dedicated and highly-talented actors...

Recently I read an article that Heath, Michelle, Jake, Maggie and Peter were seen together chatting at one of the Oscar after parties 2005/200
/ Yes, it was in a Washington Post article.

Heath Ledger Oscar Buzz, Celebrating An Amazing Talent.
A little over 6 months ago we lost one of the greatest and most charismatic of actors. Heath Ledger, through his performance’s in Two Hands and, in particular, 10 things I Hate About You. had made himself one of my favourite actors, raw with a talent not seen since Johnny Depp made his mark. To this day I find it hard to comprehend that after 2 more films Ledger’s all to brief legacy of work will be completed.
The reason for my timing of this piece is obvious, quite simply put, The Joker. Ledger’s performance as the Joker is said to tear through The Dark Knight like an acting tour-de-force not seen in a long time, the best role of his carreer allegedly, and on the evidence i can very much believe it. I won’t be seeing the complete film until this Thursday but already i’ve been astounded at how good the performance, let alone the film, is. So good in fact that my concerns at watching the film, and feeling an extreme weight of sadness as I see Ledger’s final completed role has all but left. He has truly become The Joker like no actor ever has before.
There have been a pantheon of superlatives used to describe Ledger and i can fully believe they are all accurate, fantastic, phenomenal, amazing, brilliant, mind-blowingly good have all been bandied about but i fear none really do him justice. The most pertinant question is that of whether he will recieve the prestigous accolade of an Academy Award nomination, many critics are suggesting a post-humous Oscar is likely and also very much due. The sad thing is many are also asking the question, were Ledger still here would he still be picking up the praise that he is in his death. I feel the answer to this can never truly be answered but im sure that the performance speaks volumes and, difficult to judge having not seen the whole performance, from what I have seen in a very brief few scenes he would certainly get my nod, whether he were dead or alive.
Warners were clearly torn upon Ledger’s death in January, as not only was he their main villain in the biggest Summer blockbuster, but he was also the focus of a hugely successful Viral Marketing Campaign online. Do they stop and switch focus to Batman and Havey Two-Face or continue with the Joker line. Ledger’s family stood behind Warner’s decision to continue as they were going to, with the marketing going from strength to strength. All has paid off nicely for Warners with what is set to be the biggest box-office weekend in history, doubtless that many will see this film that may not have done were Ledger still with us but I say that surely this is the best way anyone can honour the man, watching him doing as he loved and completely dissapearing into a character beloved by many despite The Jokers homicidal tendencies!
Death does change things in all walks of life, and when someone in the public eye dies its easy to say that someone is then garnering accolades as they are no longer with us I just hope the cynical ones can cut through all the controversy and accept The Joker for what he is in Heath Ledger’s amazing abilities as an actor and hopefully come February we will see one of the greatest performances of the year up their for your consideration. After all as The Joker himself would say … “Why so serious?”

Oh yeah and how hot did Heath look in that nurse uniform? Yowza.
Female nurse uniform, I presume?
It's one thing to not come out and live your life privately, but IMO of this whole charade with Reese is not any different than what closeted politicians do, and Jake deserves to be outed because of it, not to mention that quote to a London newspaper about BBM needing straight actors to make it work.

Prince of Persia went to Eton!
A British accent could work vs the Vizier (Ben K, whose accent will be "Oxbridge Muslim Villain"), but it could backfire bigtime if it makes Jake seem...um, fey. Fanboys can be brutal.
At some point, after all, he has to say, ""Just call me... Kakolookiyam!"
Peter Jackson was probably wise to allow the Hobbits to speak in more or less their own accents.
Oh yeah and how hot did Heath look in that nurse uniform? Yowza.
I got a total rush when joker told batman "you complete me".
everyone in the theatre just lost it. what a scene!!!
That was amazing, but there were so many, I found myself looking forward to every time he appeared in a scene - his voice and jumpy mannerisims and facial expressions were inspired and strangely charming and attractive. You could almost feel sympathy for his character were it not for the emptiness inside he projected. Aaron Eckhart's character was angsty and tortured tho, and you wanted to hug him - there's goodness there, somewhere inside him. Can't wait for another Batman movie, whoever takes on the Joker role will have big shoes to fill. I've never seen anything like it, Heath's performance.
Jake: The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.
Mrs Berkery: I think he's got it. I think he's got it.
Jake: The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.
Mrs Berkery: By George, he's got it. By George, he's got it. Now once again, where does it rain?
Jake: On the plain! On the plain!
Mrs Berkery: And where's that soggy plain?
Jake: In Spain! In Spain!
"I'm sorry, but something about Heath Ledger as Joker was smexeh!"
- typical comment on many message boards
Only Heath could inspire people to homage the Joker for being SEXY.
It's an incandescent performance.
I agree about Harvey Dent.

DL gossip:
"Why would any agency sit on these supposed pics? Remember when the Enquirer published the pics of Chad Allen? I find it hard to believe that these photos, especially if they are scandalous, would not be published. I could be wrong, but why would they protect Wentworth Miller?
Okay, crash course...
Take Chad Allen out of the equation for starters because he was a TV actor and not a popular, marketable filmstar or TV buff bod.
So, were talking about someone who IS marketable to the masses, say Wentworth Miller. Now then, you're a media agency like TMZ and some pap comes up to you and offers you some pics that show male actor getting visibly jiggy with actor B in a private residential place somewhere.
You buy these pictures off the pap but you don't publish them. Why? Because, if you publish them and therefore OUT the popular closeted star, YOU become the one that is blacklisted within the industry and acting agencies (big powerhouses like CAA and William Morris) cut you out of the equation when it comes to favors, scoops, exclusives, etc. They make sure that you get a reputation as a bad business that outs fellow industry people and they play it so that the public feels so sorry for said actor it turns against you..."WHY did you out him? You're disgusting! There was no need to out him!" etc etc. Then nobody buys your product or reads your site and bit by bit you go out of business, getting a bad reputation around town as an outlet that outs its own and is considered untrustworthy and sleazy. The industry knows the fraus will just turn round and scream "we didn't need to know he was gay!"
And Hollywood is self-generating. Media agencies NEED actors and their agents as much as vice versa. They all try and keep one another sweet while they are popular and on the rise. Everything hinges on cohesion. Nobody wants to be the one with the reputation for outing someone because it can badly backfire and you can end up out of a job or with people not trusting you, as explained. There is a LOT of trust in Hollywood and it's a fine line between breaking that trust and overstepping the mark for money, etc.

A Rough-Edged Actor Who Carved An Indelible Image
...
But like all of them -- all of these craggy sexy serious actors in search of a good part -- he cleaned up good. The lasting photo is of him in a tuxedo, making his way down the red carpet in 2006 with his then-girlfriend, Michelle Williams. They'd met on the set of "Brokeback Mountain." They'd just had the baby a few months before, and named her Matilda. In the carpet moment, Williams is in curry yellow Vera Wang chiffon. The couple do their best to fulfill all the requirements of the carpet, talking optimistically and proudly about his nomination for Best Actor, and also talking about nothing, and looking great.
He didn't win. Hours later, at the Vanity Fair party at Morton's in Beverly Hills, he was drinking with friends. People stood near him and just watched him. It was Ledger, Williams and Jake Gyllenhaal. It was Gyllenhaal's talented sister, Maggie, and her fiance, the un-craggy, heavy-lidded Peter Sarsgaard.
We hovered around them and tried to overhear their conversation. Soon enough they all drew closer and shut everyone out with their body language. They formed an impenetrable circle of young Hollywood cool.

Maggie Gyllenhaal Premieres Dark Knight in London
It has been Dark Knight mania here in the United States since the big opening last Thursday night (July 17th) at midnight. And today the lads and lasses in the UK are getting a look at the new superhero flick.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was in the house to do a little promotion for the big London premiere, sporting a simple-yet-sexy sleeveless black dress with matching open-toed heels.
Stateside, “The Dark Knight” made history, taking in $155.4 million in its opening weekend, beating out the previous record holder, Spider-Man 3 at $151.1 million. “The Dark Knight” also garnered the top spot for biggest midnight release ($18.5 million), biggest weekend for IMAX ($6.2 million), top single-day take on Friday ($67.9 million) and most screens (4,366).
Celebrity Gossip
Batman sequel nabs a record $158.3 million
Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight” rocketed the Batman film franchise into the superhero stratosphere as it nabbed the highest weekend opening ever in grossing an official $158.3 million — even more than Sunday’s estimate of $155.3 million.
Tally easily beats the $151.1 million opening of “Spider-Man 3” in May 2007. “Dark Knight” enjoyed a better-than-expected Sunday. Final figure of $158.3 million was released Monday morning.
The victory dance didn’t end there. The domestic box office racked up an unprecedented $250 million or more in ticket sales on the enormous strength of filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” and the $27.6 million debut of Universal’s femme-favored “Mamma Mia!,” making it the biggest three-day weekend ever in terms of total grosses.
Previous record weekend tally was $218.4 million, set in early July 2007 when “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” debuted to $135.6 million.

Reeke has destroyed anything that was ever cool about Jake. Now he's nothing but a boring soccer dad, one without any balls.
11.40 please don't be naive, if he were gay he'd NEVER come out, he wants to be a Hollywood leading man. How many openly gay Hollywood leading men do we have again?
Re: 11:48, So Jake is trapped. In a perfect world, no one would care if he's gay, bi, etc. Hollywood has a trail of closeted gay actors. Is the purpose of this forum for the fans to vent? Does anyone believe that Jake will come out of the closet?
Jake will do as he chooses.
The purpose of this forum? A place to discuss not straight Jake with minimum fangirl distraction.
Now that Stephen is out of the picture, Jake is fumbling over his words.
Why is his dad out of the picture? Am I missing something?
There are “insiders” claiming Jake’s parents split / divorced and Jake took his mother's side.
The National Enquiring Star reports: " Jake carries a little bit of Heath's ashes in a locket around his neck right next to Austin Nichols DUI mug shot, because he's " that kind of a guy."

That's it, just one sentence?
6:00 PM, did you make that up?
Of course 6:00 made it up.
Persia Takes In All Games
Jerry Bruckheimer, who is producing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, told SCI FI Wire that the film takes inspiration from the entire series of Persia video games. There have been six Prince of Persia games, starting with a 2-D side-scroller in 1999 and progressing to 3-D adventures with extended mythologies.
"It's overall," Bruckheimer said of the film adaptation in an interview. "We worked with the creators of the game and with some writers, so it takes it to another level."
The original game, created by Broderbund, was a simple story of an orphan making his way through castle corridors to save a princess from the evil Vizier. The game sequel expanded the two-dimensional action to outdoor settings.
Next-generation games, produced by Ubisoft, began with the Sands of Time game and introduced supernatural artifacts, such as the Dagger of Time and the Hourglass of Time, as well as time-traveling entities and a Sand Monster alter ego. The trademark feature of all the games is the playable character's jumping across a gap and grabbing a ledge with his hands to pull himself up. Will fans see that signature move in the movie? "Well, we'll try," Bruckheimer said.
Early reports about the film's plot suggest a storyline involving the Dagger and Hourglass, but with different events from the games. The film begins principal photography this month; it stars Jake Gyllenhaal as the prince and is directed by Mike Newell.
"We're starting Prince of Persia on Tuesday [July 22]," Bruckheimer said. "We're prepping all the locations right now. The actors are rehearsing. It's very close. I leave tomorrow to go up there." (The movie will shoot in Morocco and London.)
Bruckheimer shared his excitement for making a movie with Gyllenhaal, who has been on the producer's radar for a long time. "I've always wanted to work with him," Bruckheimer said. "I've been chasing him for a while, so I finally got him, finally found something he liked."
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is currently scheduled for a June 16, 2009, release.

If Jake likes the script, I trust his judgement. I think the film will be good.
I think PoP certainly has the potential to be very good. I'm noticing a different tone to articles lately as well, Jake being his own man and choosing what he wants to do. That US Weekly article was even worded not to sound like he was being led around by the nose, which is a good thing. He's too good for that! :)
The National Enquiring Star reports: " Jake carries a little bit of Heath's ashes in a locket around his neck right next to Austin Nichols DUI mug shot, because he's " that kind of a guy."
I got teary reading this.
How about you go f**k yourself?
Choosing what he wants to do - like get drunk and not wash his hair?
What's the big deal?
It wasn't the first time Jake was drunk or looked like a bum.
No big deal - it's his prerogative. He will do what he will. I'm actually happy to see that possibly he's a bit of a rebel. :)
Jake, just one word of advice - gay sex & drugs must be fun, but drugs are really, really bad for you.
Rebel my ass, he's just butching it up.
I got a good look at the US mag cover while waiting in line at the supermarket. US used a pic of them semi smiling and looking at the cell phone on the cover so people could see the perfect couple together. But, if you really look at it, their body language screams friends, not lovers. Reese is leaning her head in to look at the phone. If that was her lover, she would be standing right next to him, body to body, and at least have an arm around him. Reeke is standing next to each other but not touching in any way.
"Vacation" in Paris and all they could come up with is looking at the cell phone!? Lame beyond belief.
Dear Ted:
Does what you're doing while taping Truth, Lies & Ted have anything to do with the story you're delivering at the time? Case in point: holding a big honkin' rolling pin and telling Jake Gyllenhaal "way to go, you dude shafter."

2:06 PM, thank you very much for posting the article link.
The writer (Hank Stuever) really got Heath and the sensibility that made him (and Jake, Maggie, Peter) so cool. Maggie & Peter still have it...that attitude that it is the art that matters. Reese - paid corporate shill for Avon (however they try to dress it up as charity) - has never been part of that.
"...the heartthrob thing never clicked for Ledger. He worked another angle, something that is sometimes called "smoldering" when writers are out of ways to describe it. It looked like it was a chore for him to be cute. "He's handsome, but not in a traditional sort of way," Shekhar Kapur, who directed Ledger in the 2002 drama "Four Feathers," said about the actor to The Washington Post. "He's a bit craggy, but he's very, very sexy."
Craggy sexy. That was it, and perhaps that was all of it. Craggy sexy is not a lot of smiles and fashion spreads. The result of craggy sexy is that a certain niche of fans winds up swooning, writing letters of adulatory praise to Entertainment Weekly, but not as many people who opt for the more mainstream definition of sexy. Those people like Brad Pitt."
"Fandango sold more tickets during The Dark Knight’s opening two days than it did for all films in the first 12 months of the company’s history.
But here's the really interesting stat: in a Fandango.com poll over the weekend, 64% of Dark Knight moviegoers said they plan to see the movie again, and 62% said Heath Ledger’s performance is the factor that makes them want to see it a 2nd time."
Re: Outing, so when Tom Cruise self destructs, the media jumps on him. How does Perez Hilton, gets away with outing Wentworth Miller? Isn't Perez part of the "gay mafia"? Is there a "gay mafia"?
There a picture of Chance Crawford on "oh no he didn't". Do something with a beer bottle.
Isn't Perez part of the "gay mafia"?
No.
"The Gay Mafia or Velvet Mafia is a term to describe the amalgamation of gay lobby and rights groups in politics and the media. The "Gay Mafia" and "Velvet Mafia" are typically associated with the upper echelons of the fashion and entertainment industries, and the terms are also used humorously by gay people themselves, some looking to David Geffen as the unofficial head. The term was widely used in the 1980s and 1990s, and could often be seen in the pages of the New York Post."

How does Perez Hilton, gets away with outing Wentworth Miller?
There are gay rumors about Went for years. Perez can't (really) out Went without the proof. Same is true for Cruise, Travolta...
All this doesn't excite me the least, I wish Heath was still alive.
^^Me too, I miss him more than ever now. He made the character of The Joker entirely his own - it was a force. I won't be able to see anyone else as The Joker. Not only that, he made him sexy as all hell too. :)
Heath was brilliant in TDK. At the least, he would be deserving of his second Oscar nomination. I will see this movie again.
No one else can ever play the Joker again.
"whoever takes on the Joker role will have big shoes to fill."
I hope they don't have the joker in the next film. Who could possibly compare to Heath's performance? Who would dare?
