>> The unforgettable Cocomeaux
> Austin Nichols: This little creature came into my life two years ago and left tiny little paw prints on my heart. Those have turned into dinosaur footprints. She belonged to @hassieharrison . But she always gave the mornings to me. She woke me up. She begged me for breakfast. She barked until I took her on a walk. And then we would sit on the stoop and soak up the morning sun. Hassie gave her so many unique nicknames. My favorites were WockyMoly. Leetle. The Missus. Grimer. Guggenheimer. Grouper. Mama. Trinket. Coconut. And Blinkers. I crumble every time I think of her scratching at my leg when I was making dinner. And that I won’t be able to feel that again. I wish you all could have seen her turn into a Track Star the second her paws touched carpeted hotel hallways. She lived for that traction. The day she left us California had its biggest earthquake in 20 years. She was an earth shaker. The unforgettable Cocomeaux. · photos and videos posted by Austin on July 8, 2019

The slate of presenters for the 2019 Tony Awards is getting starrier. More talent has been announced to hand out Tonys at the 73rd annual celebration of Broadway, scheduled for June 9 at Radio City Music Hall.; the event will be broadcast live on CBS that evening at 8:00pm. Upcoming Moulin Rouge! stars Karen Olivo, Aaron Tveit and Danny Burstein have signed on to co-host the pre-telecast Creative Arts Awards.

Newly announced Tony presenters include Jake Gyllenhaal (upcoming star of Broadway's Sea Wall/A Life), 2019 Tony nominee Kelli O’Hara (Kiss Me, Kate!) ...

  5. Broadway stars will be out for the 73rd annual Tony Awards this Sunday, airing live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

The musical Hadestown leads the pack of nominees with 14 nominations, while the revival of To Kill a Mockingbird comes in second, with nine nominations. But Jake Gyllenhaal, a presenter for the evening, already knows who he’s rooting for.

“I am very excited for a number of my friends, but particularly the extraordinary Ruth Wilson, who I starred alongside in [the 2015 play] Constellations… so I’m a little biased,” he tells ABC Radio.

  7. Actor who plays Mysterio in the latest Marvel superhero film, Spider-Man: Far from Home, talks about growing up in a show business family. He opens up about his fascination with Buddhism and his most demanding role: an hour-long onstage monologue.

When the first trailer for Spider-Man: Far from Home debuted online earlier this year, actor Jake Gyllenhaal stole the show as Mysterio, the fishbowl-helmeted villain who makes his debut in the latest instalment of the franchise.

While Gyllenhaal is a household name and has starred in a series of cult classics – from Donnie Darko to Brokeback Mountain and Okja – his first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is likely to propel him to global superstardom when the film opens in cinemas worldwide in July.

When we meet, Gyllenhaal has just ended a two-month run playing one of his most demanding roles, in Sea Wall / A life, a theatre production with scenes that were a far cry from Spider-Man and its action scenes and special effects.

The play, which will reprise this summer on Broadway after a successful run at the Public Theatre in New York, features two monologues, one starring Gyllenhaal and the other Tom Sturridge. The role required Gyllenhaal to be alone on stage for close to an hour, holding forth on matters of life, death and love, and a great deal of focus and stamina.

“I was really scared to do it for many months … and I was waking up in the middle of the night before I did the show, thinking I shouldn’t do it and that I should call it off, but then I saw the documentary Free Solo,” says Gyllenhaal, who is speaking in the Ritz Hotel in Paris as a brand ambassador for Cartier.

“It’s all about practice and discipline, and being devoted to what you’re doing and how you can get there [ …] no matter what it is, whether you’re climbing without ropes – which is extraordinary – or whether you’re doing a monologue or trying to ace a test. So I said, ‘I can do it’ and just focused and did it.” ...

  10. Netflix has snatched up The Division, Ubisoft Motion Pictures’ film adaption based on the popular Tom Clancy online-only, role-playing video game, which was released in 2016 and currently has more than 20 million players. The follow-up game, The Division 2, was just released in March.

The announcement of Netflix’s acquisition was made during Ubisoft’s panel at E3, the video game industry trade event that officially kicks off tomorrow. Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal have been attached to star and produce this project for a while with Hobbs And Shaw and Deadpool 2 helmer David Leitch coming on board last year to direct.

The Division plot takes place in the near future where a pandemic virus is spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating the city of New York and killing millions. By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos. A group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, are activated in an attempt to save who and what remains.

87North Productions, Nine Stories, Freckle Films, and Ubisoft Film and Television are also producing.

  14. Cody Barlow missed the Pride parade in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but he didn't miss the chance to show his support as an LGBTQ ally.

"Not all country boys are bigots ... Happy Pride Month" reads the back of Barlow's truck. Barlow decorated the truck with duct tape in the design of the Pride flag and used mailbox letters to spell out his message.

"It wasn't anything in particular about this year or this Pride month," Barlow told USA TODAY on Tuesday. "A lot of things had come together over the years, it was a factor of me learning about the community from when I was younger until now."

Barlow wrote that he identifies as a heterosexual male and he has had family members and friends open up to him about their sexuality and their experiences. However, those interactions aren't all that inspired him to make a statement.

After hearing about the Pulse nightclub shooting, noticing negativity in the media and hearing about violence against the LGBTQ community, he wanted to send a positive message.

"I wanted to reach the people that need this, who are struggling or hopeless and give them a little hope and reason to keep going," he said. "Especially younger ones going through middle and high school. I think they deal with it the most being on a level where superficial things seem to matter more, while you're figuring out place in life."

In his post, he wrote that he wants to drown hatred out with love.

"I live in a rural area in Oklahoma," wrote Barlow, "surrounded by small towns in every direction, and I'm sure this is not a very welcome message around here, but this is going to be displayed on my truck for the entire month of June in support of pride month."

  18. Jake Gyllenhaal drops by Friday’s edition of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, and the host has some questions for him — not just any questions: “Burning Questions.”

One of the show’s signature bits, “Burning Questions” sees DeGeneres ask her guests a series of questions, usually designed to elicit candid answers. Gyllenhaal did not disappoint when she asked what he wore to bed. “Nothing,” he revealed.

He also proved to be a team player when asked to single out the sexiest Avenger, answering Spider-Man (he’ll soon be seen as villain Mysterio in the upcoming “Spider-Man: Far From Home”) until he was met with what DeGeneres characterized as “a smattering of applause,” leading him to guess again. “Thor?” he said hesitantly, this time earning actual applause.

The bar was raised, however, when he was asked to name a celebrity he can impersonate. His answer: “Harrison Ford in ‘The Fugitive’,” and he proved it by performing an uncanny impersonation of the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” star in a very specific scene from that particular movie.

And just in case Jake Gyllenhaal impersonating Harrison Ford isn’t meta enough, then check out Ford reacting to Gyllenhaal’s impression of him. (+ video)

But even though they don't interact with each other onstage, that didn't stop us from seating them side-by-side to see just how well they know each other in real life. We asked them what their pop culture guilty pleasures are, which celebrities they've had crushes on, and even how they express affection toward others. See how well they did in the video above.

  49. "Sea Wall/A Life" is coming off a critically-acclaimed run at the Public Theater earlier this year. What changes will have happened to the production between then and its Broadway run this summer?

Jake Gyllenhaal: There will be significant changes, because we realized that the audience really spoke to us throughout the process. The show didn’t come alive until we put it up in front of an audience -- we tried our hardest in rehearsal for three weeks to see what it would be like, but our first performances told us so much. It evolved and progressed from that, and I don’t think we ever could’ve ever expected the response that we got and the individual stories that came to us through the stories that we told, and we encouraged that. In the encouragement of that, we realized that the show is about the in-between, so visually, for [it's about] those transitions we make in our lives. Carrie is devising a lot of really incredible ideas on how to visualize transition in a different ways than we usually see on the stage, so that’s what will happen. It was a joke when we did an interview with the New York Times where I said that there will be confetti and dancing, but we have not ruled those out. [Laughs]

  53. It’s always interesting to discover how a role is offered to an actor. In the case of Gyllenhaal, he sat down for dinner with Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home director Jon Watts. Whilst speaking with CinemaBlend on the ReelBlend podcast, Watts talked about the dinner and the almost eerie conditions that made Gyllenhaal seem even more perfect for Mysterio.

    Jon Watts
“We had this amazing and strange dinner. We met up to just talk about it so I could pitch him the role and give him some context on the movie. We were at this restaurant in LA. As we were talking, the power went out. It was a really windy night in LA, it was so perfect. Palm fronds were just blowing down the street. The lights went out, the waiters brought candles so we’re sitting by candlelight as I’m telling him the story of what Mysterio is going to be doing in this film. The whole thing felt so weird and perfect. We were like, “we have to do this.” [Do you have to whisper?] “Oh yeah. It made the whole thing so much more dramatic and spooky too. By candlelight, whispering, as the wind is blowing and the shutters were slamming open and closed, it couldn’t have been more perfect.”

Spider-Man: Far From Home has quite the slow build up but once it gets going it's a non-stop thrill ride, and there are so many "oh snap!" moments that'll make you smile. Jake Gyllenhaal is fantastic as Mysterio. #SpiderManFarFromHome

I reviewed (and really liked) #SpiderManFarFromHome. It's a difficult movie to talk about without spoiling anything. The big lesson is Jake Gyllenhaal should be in everything.

The cast absolutely kills it. Tom Holland has such a grasp on the character and nails his smarts, his insecurities, his sense of humor, and his high school immaturities. Newcomer Jake Gyllenhaal is a delight as Mysterio. He was perfectly cast and brings nuance to the performance.

Tom Holland calling Jake his husband for the video camera was all about altering the Google Search. That’s what that was all about because WME/Endeavor is so worried about what that search has been drumming up. And Holland is an ass for agreeing to it

  70. In a lengthy new interview for GQ actor Jake Gyllenhaal revisits his iconic role in Brokeback Mountain.

More than 10 years have passed since the film caused a sensation, scoring Oscar nominations for stars Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger, as well as awarding director Ang Lee his first Oscar statuette. For Gyllenhaal, the success of the film was a shock.

“I think we had been cast for our ‘essences’ without really understanding what our ‘essences’ were – and that’s outside of our sexuality – we’re two straight guys cast in these roles, but who we are, who we were, Ang could see,” he recalls.

“And I don’t know if I could. So when the movie had the response that it had …. I don’t think we recognized what Ang had seen in us so we were blind at the profundity and the echo the movie made … and I don’t think we ever had any idea it would have the impact that it had.”

Gyllenhaal adds that rehearsal played a key role in developing his rapport with co-star Ledger, and in building their characters. He also reels at the ongoing legacy of the film as a classic story of two men in love.

“To make a movie that even just works is a miracle,” he admits. “When it resonates even beyond that, it’s impossible. And it has nothing to do with you in the end.”

“Just being in Brokeback Mountain, that’s the feeling I have. I feel that deeply about it. It had nothing to do with me. It came to me, I was honored to be a part of it, and it is now everyone else’s in a way that I can’t even fathom.”

  74. “I think I learned a lot from that movie in that I spend a lot of time trying to be very thoughtful about the roles that I pick and why I’m picking them,” Gyllenhaal said when asked about “Persia.” “And you’re bound to slip up and be like, ‘That wasn’t right for me,’ or ‘That didn’t fit perfectly.’ There have been a number of roles like that. And then a number of roles that do.”

Disney was hopeful that “Persia” would launch a new franchise for the studio in the same vein as “Pirates of the Caribbean,” but the film’s poor reviews and $336 million worldwide box office killed those dreams. Gyllenhaal rebounded by diving head first into edgier, more character-driven films such as Duncan Jones’ “Source Code,” David Ayer’s “End of Watch,” and back-to-back Denis Villeneuve projects “Prisoners” and “Enemy.” Gyllenhaal’s roles since “Prince of Persia” have earned him some of the best reviews of his career (see “Nightcrawler), but the actor hasn’t been impervious to additional missteps (here’s looking at you, “Demolition”).

And he and his team know it’s coming. They know it’s coming and Narnia will gladly oblige with our coverage of the bullsh*t, even though it has long gone blown the needle off of our bullsh*t meter at this point. 😂

    ToothyTile&GGoose @GoosesTile 2h 2 hours ago
But it’s going to take awhile. I fancied the idea of starting with a Sunday Musings yesterday and within a few seconds, it was a no brainer that the level of bullsh*t could not be done in a Musings. 😂

    ToothyTile&GGoose @GoosesTile 2h 2 hours ago
This flick will be his most profitable and b/o successful one with word that this won’t be his last. We at Narnia wish the movie all the success possible. We want to see Tooth do well bc let’s face it. Those Baby Tiles need new shoes for the school year. ;-)

Hassie Harrison: My sweet Cocomeaux. You’ve been my everything, since I was a little girl. We raised each other. You taught me so much about responsibility, playfulness, tenderness, selflessness and most importantly, unconditional love. You kept me out of a lot of trouble, kiddo. Always had to be home at a classy hour to take care of my best girl. And although this inevitable ending is tragic and I’m totally gutted, I promise to heal through this and just hang on and treasure the good times. Hopefully I’ll eventually sing out your funny songs and nicknames from time to time. How did I ever get so lucky to have you as my wise companion. My special little beacon of light. This little creature came into my life two years ago and left tiny little paw prints on my heart. The unforgettable Cocomeaux. instagram.com/p/BzqgQeQhzxT/
